As a group, Grand Puba, Sadat X, and Lord Jamar fused politically conscious lyrics with jazzy, sample- heavy production rooted in golden age boom bap. Widely praised by critics, \u2000One for All\u2000remains a cornerstone of early '90s East Coast rap. Founded in 1981 by Tom Silverman in New York City, the label became a cultural engine for groundbreaking artists who blurred genre lines and defined the sound of the 1980s and '90s. Tommy Boy introduced the world to acts like Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force, whose 1982 single "Planet Rock" helped launch the electro hip-hop movement. The label also released iconic material from Queen Latifah, Digital Underground, House of Pain, and Coolio, among others. Known for its fearless creativity and ear for innovation, Tommy Boy became synonymous with the golden age of hip-hop and remains a cornerstone in independent music culture. Information Society's Running was the band's debut single, released in 1985. Originally distributed to club DJs, it quickly became a club hit, especially in New York, and attracted the attention of Tommy Boy Records. The song hit number 2 on the Dance/Club Airplay charts. The b-side to this 7 features the instrumental version of the song.

Following the success of 1998's Whitey Ford Sings the Blue, Eat at Whitey's finds him beefing up his sound as well as bringing in big names, such as N'dea Davenport (who adds her vocals on the sexy, R&B- flavored "Love for Real"), Goodie Mob's Cee- Lo, Cypress Hill's B Real, and Carlos Santana, for whom Everlast penned the Grammywinning "Put Your Lights On." Everlast is still fixated on redemption and regret, but his intensity and passion make up for the narrow focus, as, guitar in hand, he conjures up a nocturnal, sultry world populated with saints, sinners, and homeboys.

Stars on 54's "If You Could Read My Mind" is a vibrant transformation of Gordon Lightfoot's introspective ballad into an energetic 90s dance-pop and disco anthem. Created for the film54, this rendition features the powerful vocals of Ultra Nate, Amber & Jocelyn Enriquez layered over a driving beat and prominent synth melodies that evoke the high-energy atmosphere of the iconic Studio 54 nightclub. An international success, it reached number 3 on theBillboardUS Dance Club Songs and hit number 1 on the Canada Dance/Urban chart. The b-side features the Hex Hector Remix Edit.
