“The first three are innocent in a way, because we didn’t have an audience when we were making them,” Oberst says. “But from Lifted on, I was definitely aware of an audience. Lifted was well-received right away, and then everything happened with Wide Awake and Digital Ash.” Those two albums came out simultaneously. And their lead singles – “Take It Easy (Love Nothing),” from the austere, remote Digital Ash, and “Lua,” from the warm, folky Wide Awake – debuted in the top two slots on the Billboard Hot 100. “First Day of My Life,” also from Wide Awake, would later be voted the Number One love song of all time by NPR Music’s reader’s poll. Bright Eyes had officially broken through. It was a heady, exciting time, but also fraught and tense, both because of the band’s careening new fame, and because of the state of the world. When Bright Eyes made their Tonight Show debut in 2006, they chose to perform none of their shiny new hits, instead delivering a searing, harrowing rendition of their caustic anti-Bush anthem, “When The President Talks To God.” These days, Oberst is still amusing himself by messing with the extremes Bright Eyes baked into this era’s releases, extremes that reflected the polar, with-us-or-against-us, fractious feel of the times. The reworked Digital Ash tracks, originally so clean and elegant, are, on the companion EP, full of “harmonica and mandolins – folky vibes,” Oberst says. While the analogue sweetness of the Wide Awake songs have been put through a detached nihilism filter.

When one thinks of the terms “mass” and “massive” in music, especially contemporary music, perhaps certain aural images come to mind: generic metal heaviness; dynamics-bereft noise; ear-battering dance floor madness; the multitudinous forms of drone darkness. All of these are massive in their own fashion. However, this newstudio album from 7FO (pronounced “nana f o”), a composer-performer based in northern Osaka, investigates and inhabits a different aspect of the massive. A glorious combination: dense low frequencies; sculpturally condensed blocks of sound, subtly swinging gravitational fields ― and a surprising sense of rolling and rollicking joyfulness and play. “Massive” doesn’t have to mean “dark” ― consider the sun. This is the third 7FO release on EM Records, following the well-received Ryu no Nukegara (Dragon's Husk) (2018). On these 2024-25 recordings, 7FO focuses his drum machines, synths and musical vision into eight compact structures which were partially inspired by the intense essence of American pre-war blues and the shining soul of traditional Ethiopian music, especially the works related to King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. While not obviously evident, the glowing core of these musics has been captured and condensed here; another inspiration is the massive sculptural 1980s works of Yoshi Wada ― although there are obvious differences, there is a similar material tangibility to the vibration of the air. The final piece, “Shirohebi”, is an update of the b-side of 7FO's 7-inch single "Healing Sword" (2023), featured on Henry Rollins’ radio program. We invite you to experience and enjoy these eight massive blocks of sound, imbued with 7FO’s heartfelt warmth and humour, dense but not dark; shifting, rolling, appearing and disappearing: 7FO once picked up a roadside stone, which split as it sat in his palm. This experience, referenced in the release’s title, hints at the metaphysical magic of music, a realm beyond mere coincidence: even the massive density of stone can split, and reveal the magic within. Czarface opens another portal. On Czarface Meets Frankie Pulitzer, the boundary between comic book canon and hip-hop reality dissolves. Frankie Pulitzer, also known in certain dimensions as FacePuller, is no ordinary collaborator, character, or catalyst. He is a hybrid entity: part human, part alien force, fully embedded in the expanding Czarface universe.

Following landmark team-ups with MF DOOM and Ghostface Killah, Czarface continues its “Meets” saga with a full-scale crossover event that pushes deeper into story and sound. Frankie’s presence is both lyrical and mythological, bringing a chaotic, shape-shifting energy that challenges and complements Czarface’s razor-sharp precision. Dusty drums, cinematic soundscapes, and razor-edged bars bring the classic Czarface sound, yet mutated.

The universe widens with appearances from Busta Rhymes, Method Man, and El-P (of Run the Jewels), each adding their own gravitational pull to the project, thus grounding it in hip-hop legacy while amplifying its larger-than-life scope.

For close to a decade, B’licious has been best known as the voice ofThe Heliocentrics, the London psych jazz and funk collective whose collaborators include Madlib, Mulatu Astatke, DJ Shadow, Gaslamp Killer and Lloyd Miller, with stages taking her to Glastonbury, Roskilde and Worldwide festivals alongside artists including Marshall Allen and Bilal. Her appearance on Strut Records’‘Nuclear War’, a tribute to Sun Ra also featuring Marshall Allen, Knoel Scott and Bilal, is the latest marker of a body of work built over years on some of the most respected stages in UK jazz and soul. Following her 2022 solo EPSurrender, ‘Apple’ is the lead single from her debut full-length album,Serpent Dreams.

‘Apple’ was co-produced byDan Smith of The Noisettesand engineered bySie Medway-Smith, whose credits include Björk, Depeche Mode, Gang of Four and Massive Attack. On the flip side,SLICKnBOBBY— known for chest-rattling basslines and immersive, dubbed-out rhythms — deliver a live reworking that shows off their skills perfectly, drawing on a background that includes performing alongside Wally Badarou and frequent collaborations with Liam Bailey and Greentea Peng.

Running Hot welcomes Menta Sauce to the label. Over the past year their reputation has grown steadily through their own label Jus' Mirage, with a catalogue that moves between playful, hypnotic and emotionally driven moments, always with one eye on the dancefloor. Their music has picked up support from underground heroes and mainstage favourites including Peggy Gou, Moxie, Chloé Caillet, Palms Trax, Sally C and Sedef Adasi.

The Fantasy EP is Menta Sauce's first full EP and vinyl release. It sees them broaden and explore their sound further, with four cuts of pure groove built for impact from warm-up to peak time. There are few people across the globe, who will have not been touched by the work of Frankie Knuckles. Forever regarded as ‘The Godfather of House’. A Grammy Award winner, Frankie had a street in Chicago named after him where the old Warehouse once stood to commemorate the first ever Frankie Knuckles Day on 25th August 2004. Five years ago, Frankie passed away in Chicago on 31st March 2014 leaving behind one of the greatest house music legacies spanning almost four decades.

Now he is commemorated once again by long time writing and production partner Eric Kupper who will release part II of the special commemorative album on vinyl around this date. Eric, himself a seasoned DJ producer and writer, working side by side with Frankie on many his seminal classics, as well as personally working on over 116 Billboard #1 Dance Records. Having both worked together for many years they established themselves at ‘Director’s Cut’ from 2011 and set about producing original releases and remixes based on the classic ‘Def Mix’ sound while sharing equal credits for their creations.

The album features some of Directors Cut’s best works with the Re-Directed version of the seminal classic ‘Baby Wants To Ride’ plus their re rubs of Inaya Day, Sybil, Hardsoul and Lou Rawls - You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine (Kenny Summit, Frankie Knuckles & Eric Kupper Unreleased Anthem).

This album is to be released in collaboration with The Frankie Knuckles Foundation who work to continue Frankie’s legacy whilst focusing on music in schools, LGBTQ youth homelessness, AIDS research / prevention & diabetes research / education.

Bypass EP brings label friend Connor Wall to Stelus, his deepest body of work yet, pushing further into the core of his signature palette than anything before. The A-side sets a tone and holds it. Dennis & Christy Soares are a husband-and-wife duo whose prolific output - over 100 albums and nearly 2,000 songs recorded across CD, cassette, vinyl, and streaming - stands as one of the most quietly remarkable self-made catalogs in contemporary music. Based for two decades on the Big Island of Hawai'i before recently relocating to Centralia, Washington, the pair have been making music together since meeting at San Joaquin Delta College in 1986, channeling a DIY spirit rooted in sincerity, spirituality, and an unshakeable belief in the power of a song. Their work spans platforms most listeners have never heard of, distributed through sheer determination and an infectious enthusiasm for reaching new ears.

Free At Last is an 11-track anthology compiled by AGS founder Roger Bong, representing less than 1% of Dennis & Christy's total recorded output. Drawing from more than 600 songs considered over the course of 12 years, the collection makes no claim to being definitive - instead, it offers what Bong calls "simply an invitation": a way in for new listeners, and a distillation of the warmth and pure intention that runs through everything this duo creates. Die renommierten Gitarristen Steve Hackett und Steve Rothery freuen sich, ihr lang erwartetes gemeinsames Album "The Roaring Waves" vorzustellen. Als sie ihre Plattensammlungen wiederentdeckten, die lange Zeit auf vergessenen Dachböden verstaut oder hinter Regalen mit alten Zeitschriftenausgaben in zahlreichen heruntergekommenen Secondhand-Läden in Alabama versteckt waren, verliebten sich die Mitglieder von ,Man or Astro-Man?" in die verkratzten Klänge von Link Wray, The Ventures, Dick Dale, The Shadows und Duane Eddy - also in Instrumental-Gitarren- und Surf-Musik der späten Fünfziger und frühen Sechziger. Gleichzeitig hatten bizarre Bühnenbilder und Auftritte von Kraftwerk, Sun Ra, Devo, Frank Zappa, The Sputniks und natürlich den Residents großen Einfluss auf die sich rasch entwickelnde Truppe. Dennoch war es das erzwungene Leben in einer hoffnungslos konservativen Kleinstadtumgebung, das Man or Astro-Man? dazu brachte, das Offensichtliche hinter sich zu lassen und sich viel stärker von dem beeinflussen zu lassen, was sie hassten, als von dem, was ihnen eigentlich gefiel. Im Grunde könnte man sagen, dass Man or Astro-Man? weitaus stärker von College-Football und muskelbepackten Verbindungs-Spinnern beeinflusst waren als von Science-Fiction. Die Band trieb es, besonders bei Live-Auftritten, auf die Spitze, so lächerlich wie möglich zu sein, und verspottete dabei ernsthafte ,alternative" Acts und mit ihnen die Musikindustrie selbst. ,Experiment Zero" (1996) war ihr Debütalbum bei Touch and Go. Es wurde in drei Tagen im eigenen Studio von Man or Astro-Man?, dem ,Zero Return" in Alabama, zusammen mit Steve Albini aufgenommen und gilt als eines der großartigen modernen, vom Surf-Stil beeinflussten Gitarren-Instrumentalalben. Da Man or Astro-Man? ,Experiment Zero" als ihr Meisterwerk der langen Entwicklung der Surf-Musik etablieren wollten, begannen sie, sich schneller als je zuvor weiterzuentwickeln. Sie veränderten ihren Sound weiter und erweiterten den Einsatz von Samples, Computerprogrammierung, Keyboards, elektronischen Spielereien sowie experimentellem analogem Schneiden und Einfügen von Tonband. Obwohl das Album von der Kritik weithin gelobt wurde, mussten sich langjährige Fans erst einmal daran gewöhnen. Wo die meisten Bands müde geworden wären oder einfach immer wieder dasselbe Album im Kreis gedreht hätten, erfanden sich Man or Astro-man? und ihre Live-Auftritte immer wieder neu.

Vierte Auflage - das aktuelle Solo-Album vom dänischen Psych-Rock-Zauberers Uffe Lorenzen aka Lorenzo Woodrose aka... Seit zehn Jahren interpretiert Uffe Lorenzen (bekannt von u.a Baby Woodrose und Spids Nogenhat) auf allen seinen Alben ein altes dänisches Lied. Das gilt für seine drei Soloalben und die beiden Alben seiner aktuellen Rockband Lydsyn. Auf seinem neuen Soloalbum Glemte Spor ("Vergessene Spuren") hat er ein komplettes Album mit 10 Interpretationen von Liedern aus den Jahren 1967 bis 1999 aufgenommen. Einige davon sind dänische Klassiker, andere sind eher unbekannte Lieder, die er sich zu eigen gemacht hat. Viele davon können als Protestsongs betrachtet werden oder haben einen anti-war Charakter. ,Ich habe festgestellt, dass ich die Herausforderung, Songs anderer Leute zu interpretieren und sie zu meinen eigenen zu machen, wirklich mag. Sie zu verändern, zu interpretieren und vielleicht sogar zu verbessern. Viele der Songs werden den meisten Menschen unbekannt sein, während andere dänische Klassiker sind. Was sie gemeinsam haben, ist, dass sie mich irgendwie zu dem gemacht haben, der ich bin", sagt Uffe Lorenzen. Das Album wurde zusammen mit Morten Hart Grabowski in einem kleinen Studio in Kopenhagen aufgenommen. In mehr als 20 Sessions haben sie zusammen eine Liste von 50 Songs auf die zehn reduziert, die schließlich auf dem Album gelandet sind. Laut Lorenzen fanden die Aufnahmen in einer sehr entspannten Atmosphäre statt: ,Wir haben etwas Gras geraucht und Rotwein getrunken, was den Prozess sehr entspannt gemacht hat, und ich glaube, das hört man dem Endergebnis auch an." Später übernahm Flemming Rasmussen den Mix und das Mastering in seinem berühmten Sweet Silence Studio. Die erste Auflage war auf 1000 Exemplare in schwarzem Vinyl limitiert und ist ausverkauft, die zweite und dritte Auflage kamen streng limitiert für den Indie-Handel auf rotem und grünem Vinyl (500 Stück weltweit), die vierte Pressung ist bei Bad Afro traditionell Purple (weltweit ebenfalls 500 Stück).

Am 15. Februar 2026 feierte Posaunist und Sänger Nils Landgren seinen 70. Geburtstag – wie es sich für einen der erfolgreichsten europäischen Musiker seines Fachs gehört mit einem oppulenten Orchesteralbum »Love of My Life« und einer Tour durch die großen Konzerthäuser.

ACT-Gründer, Förderer und Freund Siggi Loch machte Nils Landgren ein besonderes Geschenk: Einen Abend in der von ihm kuratierten Reihe »Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic« im großen Saal der Berliner Philharmonie. Im ersten Teil des Konzertes spielten Mitglieder der ACT Family für »Mr. Red Horn«.

Nach der Pause betrat Nils Landgren unter großem Jubel selbst die Bühne – mit einem exklusiven Programm, dass seinem großen Idol und Weggefährten Joe Sample gewidmet war. Mit dabei: Michael Wollny, Lars Danielsson, Wolfgang Haffner, China Moses und Mitglieder der Berliner Philharmoniker mit Arrangements von Magnus Lindgren.

The early life of Iverson Minter, also known as Louisiana Red, was marked by suffering.

His mother died of pneumonia a week after he was born. When he was five years old, his father was executed by the Ku Klux Klan. After that, he lived in orphanages until he was able to spend the rest of his childhood with his grandmother. As a teenager, he was sentenced to hard labor for burglary and subsequently sent by Uncle Sam to the Korean War. Iverson had wanted to become a blues musician ever since he had met Muddy Waters. In the late 1950s, he played in John Lee Hooker's band. In the mid-1970s, he moved to Europe, where he gained recognition among a wider audience through appearances at the WDR Rockpalast and the Montreux Jazz Festival. In the 1980s, Fritz Rau signed Louisiana Red for his successful festival series, the "American Folk Blues Festival." Trotz ihrer extremen Klangsprache verfolgen YHWH Nailgun keinen konfrontativen Ansatz gegenüber anderen Genres. Ihr Fokus liegt allein auf dem eigenen kreativen Raum-fern von Trends oder Erwartungen. Magazine wirkt dadurch wie ein Fragment eines endlosen musikalischen Flusses: kurz, intensiv und bewusst unvollständig, als würde die eigentliche Musik jenseits des Albums weiterlaufen.

Keith Freund’s music occupies a space where careful musicianship and homebrewed experimentation meet and shake hands. On “Window Left Open,” spacious melodies drift through dense fields of electronic activity: saxophone lines rise above buzzing circuitry, percussion flickers at the edges of the frame, and clustered glitch textures dart through the music like insects in tall summer grass. Every sound feels vividly animated, a charged part of the same mercurial ecosystem.

Freund’s talent lies in balancing warmth and unpredictability with remarkable ease. Patient motifs recall the exploratory spirit of early folktronica, while bit-reduced textures, degraded loops, and idiosyncratic synthesis techniques continually reshape the terrain beneath them. Rather than treating acoustic and electronic elements as opposing forces, Freund allows them to intermingle until distinctions dissolve, creating compositions that reward close listening while retaining immediate warmth. This record finds Freund working with a fully formed vocabulary that is truly his own, transforming glitch, melody, improvisation, and atmosphere into songs that are both fundamentally curious and disarmingly engaging.

Trotz vielen modernen Strömungen in den letzten 30 Jahren, sind es doch die traditionellen Spielarten des Heavy Metal, die den Motor am Laufen halten und auf die junge und alte Fans immer wieder zurückgreifen.
Diese Box repräsentiert drei Alben aus den „goldenen Achtzigern“, während die LP von OBLIVION beweist, dass es im Underground auch in den Neunzigern Musik jenseits von Grunge und Crossover gab. Die US-Metal-Legende GRIFFIN ist die bekannteste Band in dieser Box. Ihre beiden Alben auf dem Steamhammer Label (in den USA auf Shrapnel) gelten heute als Klassiker und man tritt sogar noch sporadisch auf, unter andere, beim Keep It True Festival. Enthalten ist das zweite Album „Protectors Of The Lair“ als Doppel-LP mit einem neuen Remix, aber auch mit dem Original als Remaster. HAMMER´S RULE gehören zu den besten Underground US-Metal Bands. In Deutschland wurden deren EP und LP zusammengeschnitten und man konnte das Werk der Gruppe nicht vollständig erwerben. Golden Core haben das nun gelöst, in dem der LP eine zusätzliche 7“ Single beiliegt. Somit hat man „Show No Mercy“ zusammen mit „After The Bomb“ endlich komplett und das auch noch remastert. Hammer´s Rule fallen durch einen melodischen, aber harten und teils epischen Stil, sowie durch eine der besten Rhythmusgruppen im US-Metal auf. SQUADRON aus Deutschland wurden erst kürzlich „entdeckt“ und gelten seitdem als eine der besten unsigned Bands des German Metal der Achtziger.
Es ist zudem die erste Band von Drummer Klaus Sperling, der in Folge mit Primal Fear, Sinner oder Nitrogods bekannt wurde. Squadron habe zwei professionell klingende Demos aufgenommen, die hier nun erstmals restauriert und gemastert vorliegen.

Fans und Presse sind sich einig: Hätte diese Band ein Album bei den damals einschlägigen Labels veröffentlicht, wären sie heute bekannt wie Running Wild oder Helloween. Auf der Carnival EP versammeln Trauma Ray einige ihrer stärksten, intensivsten und experimentellsten Werke. Seit ihrem Durchbruch mit Chameleon, ihrem Debütalbum von 2024 bei Dais Records, hat die Band in der aktuellen Welle der Shoegaze-Revivalisten sich weiter etabliert, ist dabei aber immer agiler geworden und sind 2025 mit Kollegen wie Deafheaven, Loathe, und Toucheì Amoreì auf Tour gewesen. Mit einer Mischung aus blitzschnellen Riffs und karger Schönheit entwickelt sich ihr Sound weiter und knüpft an die Laut-Leise-Laut-Größen aus Metal, Grunge und Shoegaze von Slowdive bis Smashing Pumpkins an. Die Carnival EP taucht in stimmungsvolleres, intellektuelleres Material ein, als würde man ihre früheren Ausflüge vor einem Zerrspiegel betrachten. Diese Songs vermitteln ein deutliches Gefühl der Unruhe, entstanden in einer flüchtigen Zeitspanne, was beweist, dass die Band unter Druck und wenn sie aus den dunkelsten Ecken ihres Unterbewusstseins schöpft, am besten funktioniert. Das wortlose ,Carousel" leitet die beunruhigende Atmosphäre der EP mit Störgeräuschen und melancholischen Gitarrenklängen ein, die in ,Hannibal" übergehen, einem hymnischen Track voller kraftvoller Riffs und roher Emotionen. Die Band hat diese Art von purer Kraft schon mal gezeigt, von ,Solstice" aus dem Jahr 2018 bis zu "Chameleon", während ,Hannibal" mit einem Hauch von beispielloser Boshaftigkeit, Schlängeligkeit, ,Stone Temple-y, Alice in Chains-y", wie Avila witzelt, verzerrt ist. Textlich greift er die Angst der Teenager auf, das Gefühl, zerlegt und abgelehnt zu werden. ,Méliès", benannt nach dem französischen Illusionisten und Filmemacher, wechselt zwischen schweren, schlammigen Akkorden und einem himmlischen Refrain, ,von etwas Beängstigendem zu etwas wie einem Traumzustand", sagt Avila, der die surreale Abstraktion seines Namensvetters kanalisiert. ,Funhouse" taucht in den Doom Metal ein, mit spärlicher Gitarrenarbeit und dem wahrscheinlich langsamsten BPM der Band. Im Gegensatz dazu rüttelt, blitzt und hämmert der letzte Track ,Clown", als hätte der Hörer das andere Ende eines Horrorhauses erreicht und wäre nun vollständig in die grelle, verwirrende Beleuchtung des Jahrmarkts eingetaucht. Personifiziert durch eine knorrige, synthetische Leadgitarre erinnert ,Clown" an Robin Williams, einen Archetyp tragischer Fröhlichkeit, der zeigt, dass diejenigen, die am meisten versuchen, andere zum Lachen zu bringen, insgeheim vielleicht die Traurigsten sind. Klanglich verweist die Band schnell auf den Einfluss von ,Undone" und ,Stuck on You" von der Kultband Failure aus den 90ern, neben dem allgegenwärtigen Loveless, was die Größe von Trauma Ray ausmacht: fünf Musiker, die das, was sie lieben, aufnehmen, synthetisieren und erweitern. Die Carnival EP bietet einen kurzen und sehr loopbaren Abstecher in die Dunkelheit einer Band, die von Minute zu Minute beeindruckender wird.

Studio Barnhus presents Fold, the first full-length release on the label from Stockholm-born, Berlin-based DJ and producer MOLØ: a patiently unfolding album of club-adjacent lullabies, soft-focus breakbeats and open-window electronics. Following 2024’s Aqua Lull and 2025’s Don’t Change EP with Slackin Beats, MOLØ returns to Barnhusgatan with her most fully realised work yet – an album built like a night slowly finding its shape, starting somewhere quiet and letting the music grow and shift. The result is Fold: eight tracks moving freely between rooms and tempos, held together by MOLØ’s sense of atmosphere, melody and pace. There are pads with endless skies in them, field recordings whispering from the corners, melodies suddenly appearing, having been waiting patiently for the right light.
As often with Studio Barnhus, friends old and new are invited in. Swedish jazz pianist Albin Söderbäck leaves his mark on Cloud and Sväva, bringing a warm, searching musicality that nods gently towards MOLØ’s favourite jazz-fusion records. On Le, Diane Emerita’s fragile voice slips in between the breaks, making the track feel at once human and unreal. Off The Meds frontman Kamohelo keeps it cool as ever on the dynamic stepper Bump.
Then there is Malmö, featuring Norwegian songwriter and vocalist Ane Brun. MOLØ sent Brun the instrumental because she could already hear her voice inside the music – what came back felt so natural, it was as if the whole track had been written around it from the start.
Elsewhere, DJ favourite Fluff captures a different kind of magic: made in MOLØ’s Berlin apartment one spring evening, barely changed since its first draft, then road-tested immediately on a late-night walk through the city with the demo on repeat, strangers moving through the frame.
Fold is a record about trusting the long way round. In a time of shrinking attention spans and growing impatience, MOLØ chooses the scenic route, with curiosity, generosity and enough confidence to let the listener get a little lost

Atlantic was the brainchild of guitarist and songwriter Simon Harrison. Following a successful ghost-writing career and his bands Stranger, Simon wanted to make an album in his favoured AOR/Melodic Rock genre. Heavily influenced by bands like Whitesnake, Journey, Bad English, FM, Heartland and Dare he set about writing the songs that became the first album entitled ‘Power’.
"Power" was first released as a CD back in 1994 on the Music For Nations label and subsequently re-released in 2008 on Escape Music (ESM176). Atlantic raised many eyebrows with this release which can be ranked alongside bands such as “Heartland” "Dare" and "Shy" (Tony Mills also guests on the album!).
Band members include Simon Harrison on guitar and keyboards and the great Phil Bates (Trickster/Quill) on lead vocals, guitars and keyboards. The album had so much potential at the time it is a shame that it did not receive the recognition it richly deserved. The band came back with a killer brand new album in 2024 title “Another World” also on Escape Music ESM388
