Uno Melodic was the brainchild of the legendary Roy Ayers. At the height of his career in the early 80s, Roy established Uno Melodic to explore working as a writer, musician, producer and record label owner with complete control over his creative ideas. Roy brought artists and musicians to the label invaluable to him at Polydor and in whom he saw potential to make more great records. Between 1980 and 1983 Uno Melodic released records that went onto become definitive of their time, classics that became much sought after. The label and its signature releases are part of the Roy Ayers legacy, the best of which Expansion have assembled here on remastered double LP.
Sylvia Striplin, Eighties Ladies and Ethel Beatty represent the soul, disco, two step and boogie sides of Uno Melodic, Bobbi Humphrey, Justo Almario and Roy himself the masters of jazz fusion at the label. The album concludes with the spoken words of Rick Holmes on one of the label's biggest ever release on the label.

Born Don McCarlos,he processes one of reggae's most distinctive voices.
His vocal mannerisms being instantly recognisable over a tune ,yet he remains one of Jamaica's best kept secrets.
We look back to some of his finest moments that set the tone for his popularity that was to follow in the Dancehall period of Reggae.
He began his musical career in 1973,when alongside Garth Dennis and Derrick Ducky Simpson he formed one of Reggaes foremost groups Black Uhuru.
He then joined Wailing Souls before going solo under his shorter name Don Carlos

Buoyed by the incredible love felt for TSTD Vol. 1 in summer 2014, Berlin's renowned pop archaeologist, that master musical excavator DJ Super-markt, has leapt straight back into the soft-top and been out digging for the lost gems you'll find here on Volume 2. This is another perfect collection of missing-in-action, late-70s/early-80s smooth, singer/songwriter, AOR-paced, yacht-based pop and blue-eyed soul. Every song brims over with that West Coast sunshine, and for Volume 2 we've dug even deeper into obscure corners of LA, London, even Cologne, to create an even more potent soundtrack to that lost world that's somehow always with us. So join us on another sunset trip as we soundtrack summer 2015 in the company of these lost luminaries. The 23rd September 2018 marks the 45th Anniversary of the super club and we have selected 18 tracks that we hope capture the unique atmosphere of the huge ballroom and the mesmerizing dance moves that held us spellbound all those years ago.
WIGAN CASINO finally closed its doors in December 1981 after eight long years of weekly All-Nighters, during which time it came to define Northern Soul. The term had, of course, been coined years earlier, but it was the Casino Soul Club that established the style of music and the scene to the wider public.
The Casino transformed the Northern Soul scene into a mass youth movement with its own sound track, uniform, cultural icons and a 100,000 strong membership. In reality, the stereotype of moustachioed young men in baggy trousers and vest tops, festooned with sew-on patches, was actually quite short lived. Northern Soul was ever evolving and as the Seventies progressed so did the music and the fashion, embracing soulful-disco and jazz-funk. Today, 45 years on, it is still evolving and attracts followers from all over the globe to its international Weekenders and Festivals. Right On!

Compiled from "lost" and unreleased material, originally released as "Munich & Elsewhere" on the 10th Anniversary of their disbandment (including prophetic pre-dub mixing) as well as most of the unreleased "Faust Party 3" LP. Intense, eccentric, hypnotic, a true timeless classic. Finally out as a double LP, 71 Minutes is the second in our series of reissues of Faust. 180 gram vinyl.

Blue dream is the latest project from The Rurals Andy Compton, written & produced in a studio on the Californian Coast (Near LA) which is fully analogue, with retro drum machines, synths, filters and effects. The album is a collaboration with fellow groovers/studio owners Brad Kent and Irantzu Pujadas.
Expect a dose of psychedelic Cali' soul, with smooth grooves and warm feelings.

Compiled by cratediggers Loud E & The Wild, Discophilia Beligica' is a collection of next-door-disco and local spacemusic from Belgium 1975-1987. The tracks on this delightfully obscure collection are from ordinary folk. Most have day jobs. Yet as musicians, they go as far out as possible in to the disco universe and back again.

A trip through the productions of pioneering genius Joe Meek. Here we have a mix of hits that have appeared on comps before and real out-there obscurities. Designed to be highly listenable. Never a dull moment amongst these songs that cover subjects close to Joes' heart such as vampires, love (and the lack of it), death, outer space, the human soul, Buddy Holly, and more. Artists featured are The Blue Rondos, The Blue Men, Jason Eddie and the Centremen, The Sound Offs, The Moontrekkers, Johnny Leyton, The Cryin' Shames, Mike Berry, The Outlaws, Chick Lewis, Glenda Collins and even Joe himself warbling out a tune. Soul Festival' spans the period from when new soul music took influence from the Northern soul we enjoy here at UK clubs and events. As the decade progressed, records became more lavish in their arrangement and grander in production, always with that essential soul feel, and that's what you will find here on this compilation.

This 3LP compilation documents B.B.King's breakthrough years, when, initially signed to the Bihari Brothers' RPM label, he unleashed a torrent of superb recordings that would establish him as the world's most famous blues singer-guitarist. He made scores of remarkable recordings during his career - but the ones on this compilation represent that marvelous moment in time when Riley King and Lucille combined to make their indelible mark on the history of the blues.

MFM is proud to announce the first Dutch artist on Music From Memory and our first release of 2017. MFM017 will be a six track EP from Richenel. Richenel's first album 'La Diferencia' was released on the obscure Dutch cassette label Fetisj in 1982. Recorded amongst the turmoiled punk and squatter scene of Amsterdam by musicians who had all connected through the Rietveld art academy, the 'La Diferencia' sessions reflect a unique mix of punk aesthetics with a synthesized 'bedroom' funkiness. Following on from this obscure release, Richenel would go on to record a number of successful albums and hit singles in the Netherlands and beyond. The six track EP holds a selection of tracks from the original cassette as well as alternative versions and two previously unreleased songs. More Fetisj news to follow.

Factory Benelux and New Order present Of Factory New York, a unique benefit album released to assist Michael Shamberg, who ran the NYC office of Factory Records during the celebrated label's Eighties heyday.

Controversy, Prince's fourth album, originally released by Warner Bros in 1981 and now re-issued by Rhino with original content.

For the most part, the album was an expansion of its predecessor, 1980's Dirty Mind. This record was considered to be his most political to date. The album was also an important stepping stone from his early works to the more mature song writing of the mid 1980s.

This is the definitive collection of New Orleans Funk featuring acknowledged masters next to some of the earlier artists who shaped the meaning of funk. The album is also filled with many rare, sought after and undiscovered funk tracks. It covers the period from the emergence of New Orleans Funk in the early 1960's through to the mid-seventies.

The record is an essential part of anyone in any way interested in Funk's record collection. It has some vital ingredients in it that you can't find elsewhere. With the sound of the New Orleans Funeral March Bands, Mardi Gras Indian Tribes and Saturday Night Fish Fries all as inspiration New Orleans Funk developed into a unique sound.

New Orleans is a port town. Originally owned by the French, this was where many slaves were brought from the West Indies. Many of these slaves came from Haiti and brought with them the religion of Voodoo and its drums and music. It became one of the first parts of America to develop a strong African-American culture leading to the invention of Jazz in the early 1900's.

A main feature of Jazz in New Orleans were the Jazz Funeral Marching bands. Solemn Brass bands accompanying a coffin would, on burial, be joined by a second line of drummers and dancers which would turn the event into a celebration of the spirit cutting free from earth. This African tradition is strong in New Orleans and still goes on to this day. The backline drums play a syncopated style that is neither on the beat nor the off-beat. It is these rhythms that are the basis of New Orleans Funk.

The album comes with a booklet presenting a historical explanation to how and why this music came about, and with lots of information about the people involved.

French superstar, D.ko Label bossman and all-round bemasked mystery Mézigue brings the heat on this special release for skylax records. His style is uncommon & raw, mézigue is doing mézigue style, take it or leave it. If you're listening carfeully to his music you can imagine a dream mix between the absurd poetry of the pixies crossed with the craziness of Mr Oizo.This is one of the weirdest release we have ever signed and we are so proud of, unusual & unique. Mézigue is here to stay.

'Motherlode' is a classic James Brown compilation album, primarily focusing on his funk recordings of the late 1960s and early 1970s, & including live performances and remixes as well as studio recordings. This is the first vinyl edition of the 2003 expanded version of 'Motherlode', a 2-LP on 180g in a gatefold jacket, featuring a number of tracks never before available on LP. Highlights include a live 'Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud', 'I Got Ants in My Pants (and I Want to Dance)', the chart hit 'She's the One', and more.

Canadian quartet BADBADNOTGOOD take on creating the ultimate late night' selection of tracks from their record collections, set for release on 28th July 2017. The original trio of Matthew Tavares, Alex Sowinski and Chester Hansen formed while studying music at Toronto's Humber College (they've recently added Leland Whitty to the line-up). A shared appreciation of hip hop and instrumental covers of Gucci Mane and Earl Sweatshirt suggested a worldly outlook and reciprocated love from Tyler The Creator and Ghostface Killah, which whom they made 2015's Sour Soul.

This is an international effort: Velly Joonas' Estonian version of 'Feel Like Makin' Love', Kiki Gyan, Admas and Francis Bebey representing Africa (Ghana, Ethiopia and Cameroon respectively), Les Prospection from France, Scots' Boards Of Canada and fellow Canucks River Tiber and Charlotte Day Wilson.

Finally, there's the no-small-matter of the Late Night Tales cover version, in which BADBADNOTGOOD take on Andy Shauf's 'To You' is turned into a mournful delight. while the Queen Of Siam herself, Lydia Lunch, delivers a sexual sermon involving only you, her and Jim Beam.

We were really excited to have the chance to put together a Late Night Tales compilation, it's a great organisation. We decided to use it as a vehicle to show everyone all the amazing music we have gotten to experience by touring and meeting new people. Every track on this comp was either shown to us by an incredible person or made by one of our friends. We also included a little cover of a song by one of our favourite current musicians, Andy Shauf.

These artists, as well as many, many others, have infuenced us to create and kept our deep love of music alive. This mix will keep you company on a quiet night by yourself or with friends. This EP features recent single "Love Will Tear Us Apart" - which received support from Rolling Stone, Songlines, John Kennedy (Radio X), Craig Charles (BBC Radio 2 and 6 Music), Ed Adoo (BBC 5Live), Gilles Peterson (BBC 6Music) and Laurent Garnier (Worldwide FM) - and new track "Give Me The Night".

You're The Man is the first-ever planned 'lost' Tamla/Motown album from Marvin Gaye. Fifteen (15) of the album's 17 tracks are on vinyl for the first time and three tracks are newly mixed by SaLaAM ReMi. The album also includes the rare long LP version of Marvin Gaye's cancelled Christmas single from '72, as well as an unreleased vault mix of its instrumental B-side, and new essay by Marvin's biographer, David Ritz. The release will coincide with the 60th anniversary of Motown as a label and also Marvin Gaye's 80th Birthday (April 2).

While the tracks have been issued on various collections and deluxe editions, this is the first time they have been placed in their proper context. In addition to context, You're The Man was the album that was proposed to follow-up the monumental What's Going On, and it contains all of Marvin's solo and non-soundtrack recordings from 1972 (his next two albums in quick succession: Trouble Man and Let's Get It On).
