Nur wenige Bands der Heavy-Metal-Szene haben im vergangenen Jahr einen ähnlich kometenhaften Aufstieg erlebt wie ORBIT CULTURE. Das Album "Death Above Life" des schwedischen Quartetts ist nicht nur ein Beweis dafür, wie weit die Band gekommen ist, sondern es ist der Sound von Metal in seiner modernsten Form. "Jeder von uns würde sich lieber den Soundtrack von 'Inception' anhören, weil er zeitlos ist. Wenn ich beim Schreiben nicht weiterkomme, bieten mir z.B. Cello oder Klavier neue Möglichkeiten. Wir schreiben einfache Riffs und Strukturen, und wenn wir uns dabei von einem Künstler wie Hans Zimmer inspirieren lassen, kommt ein Song wie 'Inferna' heraus, weil wir den Chorus größer und cineastischer machen." 1986 veröffentlichten Bassist Ron Royce (Ron Broder), Gitarrist Tommy T. Baron (Tommy Vetterli) und Schlagzeuger Marquis Marky (Markus Edelmann) ihr erstes Demotape »Death Cult« mit Hilfe von Celtic Frosts Tom Gabriel Fischer am Gesang (Fischer war auch für die Texte verantwortlich).
Kurz darauf, Anfang 1987, unterschrieben Zürichs Avantgarde-Metal-Pioniere einen Vertrag mit Noise Records aus Berlin. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatte sich Bassist Ron Royce entschieden, selbst die Rolle des Leadsängers von Coroner zu übernehmen.
Schließlich buchte Karl-Ulrich Walterbach von Noise Records für Coroner Studiozeit im Berliner Music Lab Studio, damit sie ihr Debütalbum unter den wachsamen Augen von Harris Johns aufnehmen konnten. »R.I.P.« wurde im Juni 1987 veröffentlicht und erhielt ausgesprochen positives Feedback in der Presse.

1988 folgte auf Coroners Debütalbum »Punishment For Decadence« (diesmal produziert im Sky Trak Studio in Berlin, produziert von Guy Bidmead). Laut Gitarrist Tommy Vetterli war das eine natürliche Weiterentwicklung für die Band: „Wir haben uns mehr auf die Tiefe der Musik konzentriert, es war nicht mehr nur eine Demonstration unserer technischen Fähigkeiten. Die Band war ziemlich tight, definitiv tighter als auf unserem ersten Album. Insgesamt denke ich, dass die Platte etwas reifer ist. Es ging weniger darum zu zeigen: ‚Schaut her, wie gut wir spielen können‘, sondern der Fokus lag auf den Songs.“
Der herausragende Track auf dem Album ist „Masked Jackal“, ein Fanliebling bis zum heutigen Tage. Außerdem wurde ein Musikvideo zu dem Song gedreht, wie der Gitarrist erklärt: „Es ist das Stück, das auf dem Album heraussticht. MTV war damals für jede Band extrem wichtig. Deshalb ist ‚Masked Jackal‘ bis heute ein Favorit der Fans.“

»Punishment For Decadence« kam mit einem auffälligen Cover-Artwork daher (ein Gemälde mit dem Titel „Porte de L'enfer“), eine Idee von Schlagzeuger Marky: „Er kletterte mitten in der Nacht eine Leiter hinauf und fotografierte hier in Zürich das Artwork von Rodin. Das Plattenlabel fand jedoch, dass dieses Cover nicht ‚Heavy Metal‘ genug sei, also veröffentlichten sie für die zweite Pressung ein anderes Cover mit diesem Skelett, das Geige spielt. Jenes Motiv war eigentlich nur als T-Shirt-Design gedacht.“

Laut Tommy lief das Album in Sachen Verkaufszahlen ordentlich: „Anscheinend müssen die Verkaufszahlen befriedigend gewesen sein; sonst hätten wir wahrscheinlich nicht weitermachen können. Wir haben nicht viel Geld mit Coroner verdient, aber das Ganze hat viel Spaß gemacht. Wir konnten überleben und das tun, was wir lieben. Die Presse und andere Musiker mochten uns, aber wir erreichten niemals die breite Masse.“

"Burning Down Paradise", das sechste Studioalbum der NWOBHM-Legende Tokyo Blade, erblickte ursprünglich im Jahre 1995 über Fresh Fruit das Licht der Welt. Fresh Fruit war ein Sublabel von SPV in Hannover. High Roller Records legt »Burning Down Paradise« jetzt zum allerersten Mal als Vinyl auf.
Die Platte markierte die Wiedervereinigung von Gitarrist Andy Boulton und Sänger Alan Marsh, die das erste Mal seit dem Debütalbum von Tokyo Blade im Jahre 1983 wieder gemeinsame Sache machten. Die damalige Besetzung wurde komplettiert von John Wiggins an der zweiten Gitarre, Colin Riggs am Bass und Marc Angel hinterm Schlagzeug.
„Ich denke, alle zwölf Songs haben den Test der Zeit gut überstanden“, kommentiert Gitarrist und Gründungsmitglied Andy Boulton heute. „Allerdings war es eine schwierige Zeit für Hardrock und Heavy Metal. Der musikalische Geschmack hatte sich drastisch verändert. Das Album wurde in einem kleinen Studio direkt außerhalb von Marlborough in Wiltshire aufgenommen. Zusammen mit einem Tontechniker namens Nick Beer. Ich nehme an, man könnte sagen, dass die ganze Band »Burning Down Paradise« produziert hat. Als Hauptsongwriter hatten Alan und ich am Ende aber wohl den größten Einfluss auf den Sound der Platte.“
Laut Aussage des Gitarristen erntete das Album zum Erscheinungszeitpunkt unterschiedliche Reaktionen: „Die Meinungen gingen auseinander, einige alte Fans mochten unsere neue Richtung nicht, während andere positiver eingestellt waren. Und was die Kritiker an sich betrifft, auf die höre ich eh nicht. Meine Einstellung ist: Wenn dir die Musik nicht gefällt, hör sie dir einfach nicht an.“
Nach der Veröffentlichung von "Burning Down Paradise" gingen Andy Boulton und Alan Marsh abermals getrennte Wege. Tokyo Blade lösten sich (zwischenzeitlich) auf: „Wir hatten die Schnauze voll, ohne Unterstützung von irgendwoher weiterzumachen. Es war eine schlechte Zeit für unsere Art von Musik, und wir sahen keinen Sinn darin, die Band weiterhin am Leben zu halten und unsere Kraft zu vergeuden.“

Die Wurzeln der NWOBHM-Legende Tokyo Blade gehen zurück bis in die frühen achtziger Jahre, als die Schulfreunde Andy Boulton (Gitarre), Andy Robbins (Bass) und Steve Pierce (Schlagzeug) in Wiltshire unter dem ursprünglichen Namen White Diamond starteten. Irgendwann tat man sich mit Sänger Alan Marsh zusammen und machte zuerst als Killer und dann als Genghis Khan weiter. Die Doppel-Single »Double Dealin’« erschien 1982 und sicherte Tokyo Blade einen Plattenvertrag beim neu gegründeten Label Powerstation Records. Im November 1983 stand schließlich das Debütalbum in den Läden.
Gründungsmitglied und Gitarrist Andy Boulton erläutert: “Die Platte wurde im Wickham Studio in Ost-London aufgenommen. Wir hatten lediglich vier Tage zur Verfügung und es war ein Albtraum. Immer wenn wir fertig waren, fielen wir todmüde um und schliefen sofort auf dem Studioboden ein. Und am nächsten Tag ging alles wieder von vorne los.“
Es wundert demnach kaum, dass Andy die Atmosphäre im Studio als angespannt bezeichnet: “Wir dachten, uns würden wenigstens zwei Wochen zur Verfügung stehen, aber am Ende mussten wir alles mehr oder weniger live aufnehmen. Im Grunde genommen haben wir die Songs für das Album ausgewählt, die uns am besten gefallen haben zu diesem Zeitpunkt.”
Während die Pressereaktionen im Vereinigten Königreich, speziell beim Kerrang!, nicht überwältigend waren, wurden Tokyo Blade in Kontinentaleuropa von Magazinen wie dem Aardschok (Niederlande) und Rock Hard (Deutschland) bereits als die neuen Iron Maiden gefeiert.
Diese erweiterte Re-Issue des ersten Albums von Tokyo Blade kommt mit einer Fülle von Bonus-Material: als da wären die vier Songs der »Midnight Rendezvous«-EP, nämlich “If Heaven Is Hell”, “Highway Passion”, “Midnight Rendezvous” und “Mean Streak”, sowie “Powergame” und ”Death On Main Street” von der »Powergame« 7”, plus ein Stück namens “Machine Run”, das 1982 auf der Ebony-Compilation »Metal Maniaxe« unter dem Bandnamen Madame Guillotine erschienen ist und in Hull aufgenommen wurde.

Die Londoner Band Apocalypse sollte kaum einer Einführung bedürfen. Sie erlangten unter Fans der New Wave Of British Heavy Metal durch ihre Single »Storm Child« von 1982 Ruhm, der drei Jahre später das vielbeachtete Album »The Prophet« folgen sollte, obwohl die Band zu diesem Zeitpunkt bereits eine Namensänderung durchlaufen hatte und nun als Omega bekannt war.
Spulen wir über vierzig Jahre vor. Apocalypse sind mit einem neuen Album zurück, »Last Man Standing«. Das aktuelle Werk knüpft nahtlos an »Abandon Hope an«, das 2010 von High Roller Records veröffentlicht wurde. Mittlerweile hat Gitarrist und Sänger Steve Grainger, der nach dem Tod sowohl seines Bruders Marc (ehemaliger Schlagzeuger der Band) und des Bassisten Dave Robertson tatsächlich als „letzter Mann übriggeblieben ist“, die Gruppe in Apocalypse NWOBHM umbenannt.
»Last Man Standing« kombiniert neues Material, das Steve geschrieben hat, mit älteren Songs, die in ihrer ursprünglichen Form aus der Vorgängerband Phaze stammen (die er und sein Bruder betrieben). Die Atmosphäre und der Drive von Apocalypse sind geblieben. Mit Beiträgen von Marc und Dave sowie textlichen Anspielungen auf einige frühere Stücke der Band ist »Last Man Standing« der neueste Teil der Apocalypse-Saga und in dieser Form definitiv eine würdige Ergänzung des Bandkatalogs.

Es war ein Coup, als Gründer und Bassist Lee Payne vor drei Jahren ankündigte, dass Harry „The Tyrant“ Conklin, der nach Griechenland gezogen war, seiner Band Cloven Hoof beitreten würde. Der ehemalige Jag-Panzer-Frontmann war der perfekte Nachfolger für Russ North, der für die Fans bis dahin als der ultimative Cloven-Hoof-Sänger galt – leider weilt er nicht mehr unter uns. Daher waren die Reaktionen auf das erste Album der Band mit Harry Conklin am Mikrofon herausragend. »Heathen Cross« wurde 2024 bei High Roller Records veröffentlicht.
Nun folgt Cloven Hoofs zehntes Studioalbum mit dem Titel »Never A Prophet In Your Own Land«. Wieder einmal ist die Gesangsleistung vom „Tyrant“ absolute Weltklasse. Lee Payne grinst: „Das Lob gebührt einzig und allein Harry. Wir können uns glücklich schätzen, einen so brillanten Sänger und Frontmann in der Band zu haben.“
Kontinuität ist für jede Band wichtig, und Cloven Hoof hatten in der Vergangenheit mehr als einen Besetzungswechsel zu verzeichnen. Diesmal nicht, wie der Bassist nicht ohne Stolz erklärt: „Wir haben dieselbe feste Besetzung wie auf »Heathen Cross«, das kann ich mit Freude sagen. Am Gesang der einzig wahre Harry Conklin und an den Gitarren Luke Hatton sowie Chris Coss. Dazu Ash Baker am Schlagzeug. Luke, Chris und Ash sind nun seit über zehn Jahren bei Cloven Hoof; sie kennen ihre Rollen in- und auswendig. Ich selbst bin seit 1979 in der Band, also sollte ich inzwischen eine Vorstellung davon haben, was ich mache (lacht).“
„»Never A Prophet In Your Own Land« ist keine direkte Fortsetzung von »Heathen Cross«“, fährt Payne fort. „»Heathen Cross« hatte seine eigene schwere und düstere Atmosphäre. »Never A Prophet In Your Own Land« ähnelt eher »A Sultan‘s Ransom«, doch diese Ähnlichkeit war weder konstruiert noch geplant. Es ist einfach so gekommen.“

Pete Hinton wurde vom Label vorgeschlagen. Da er einige meiner Lieblingsbands aus Jugendtagen produziert hatte, wie Saxon und Demon, waren wir begeistert. Die Zusammenarbeit mit ihm lief wirklich gut, er ist ein absoluter englischer Gentleman.“
Der Mix des Albums wurde in den Morrisound Studios von Scott Burns in Tampa, Florida, realisiert, einem damals sehr angesagten Ort.
Der komplexeste Song auf »No More Color« ist vielleicht „Mistress Of Deception“; laut Tommy Vetterli „besitzt er definitiv einige extrem schwierige Gitarren-Passagen. Ich erinnere mich, dass Marky vor den Albumaufnahmen sagte, er schreibe einen Text über die Wüste. Das hat mich wirklich inspiriert, und ich habe den Song in ein paar Tagen geschrieben.“
„Die By My Hand“, eine deutlich geradlinigere Nummer, wurde als Single für das Album ausgewählt (und zusammen mit „Tunnel Of Pain“ auf durchsichtigem Vinyl als Promo-12“ veröffentlicht).
In damaligen Interviews erwähnte Tommy, dass »No More Color« das erste Album von Coroner war, auf dem die Band groovige Parts einbaute, anstatt durchgehend auf kompromisslosen technischen Thrash Metal zu setzen. Heute glaubt er immer noch, dass das stimmt: „Ja, durch all die Tourneen hatten wir gelernt, dass man zwischen den schnellen und komplexen Abschnitten einige einfachere und groovigere Parts spielen muss. Das wirkt live viel besser und macht auch das Publikum glücklich. Das Album konzentrierte sich insgesamt viel mehr darauf, Stimmungen zu evozieren, und weniger auf technische Leistungen.“

The Rotterdam producer duo Vesuvio Vortex and DJ Seutek first connected through a shared love for records, long listening sessions, and spontaneous DJ sets at his record store.

One evening, Seutek recited his poem ‘Ruimte Zat’ (In Space There’s Space Enough). The reaction was immediate: this had to become a record. That same night, the vocals were recorded and the music began to take shape.

The result is a melancholic piece driven by his unmistakable voice, weaving spoken word through ’80s-inspired sounds. Raw and unmistakably Rotterdam, ‘Ruimte Zat’ finds hope in uncertainty while keeping its eyes on the horizon.

Waking Dreams returns with “Fantasies,” a four-track excursion by Aline Umber and AGELESS that explores the hypnotic facets of deep house. Featuring the label’s most sought-after ID, the title track finally receives its official release, unfolding as a meditative yet driving cut built on understated percussion and an airtight groove. Lush chords douse the track’s atmosphere, while dubby synth stabs and a spoken-word vocal cut through the arrangement, deepening its hypnotic pull and transfixing the listener. Tronic has a 20-30 year long history with releasing melodic house and techno. While we opted for the more raw sound in the past few years, Christian wanted to go back to his roots and produce more emotive, groovy, and melodic house and techno again. Lamour Toujours is a progressive groover that has a disco-influenced bassline and adds an emotive chord progression in the break. We asked Argentinean legend Hernan Cattaneo to make a remix. As a long time supporter of Tronic we felt that he would be a great candidate for this remix. Hernan Cattaneo and Kevin Di Serna teamed up and delivered a stunning remix focusing on the melodic chord progression of the original! Italian maestro Gai Barone mutates 'L'Amour Toujours' into a stunning, mind-bending interpretation that proves his insane ability to rewrite the rulebook. The title of Ghost Bridge, the East-Coast-spanning chamber ensemble Hour's fifth record, is less metaphorical than one might expect. Bandleader Michael Cormier- O'Leary repurposed it from an unrealized movie concept about a bridge that inexplicably starts disappearing. On the nearly-ten-minute title track of this richly imaginative suite of songs_written for a 13-piece ensemble that includes woodwinds, strings, and vibraphone as well as a rock rhythm section_Hour conjures up this central image with spectral string harmonics and free-time percussion gestures. While writing the keyboard pieces that became the takeoff point for the album, Cormier-O'Leary also found himself reflecting on the loss of loved ones or even his own mortality. The six kaleidoscopic instrumental pieces on Ghost Bridge, though, feel more cosmically inquisitive than straightforwardly elegiac, sketching a progression from existential doubt toward understanding and acceptance. Ghost Bridge forms a contrast with Hour's art-rock-informed, more improvisatory early releases, representing a step further into intricate chamber orchestration. Known for his work with Friendship, Wendy Eisenberg, and 2nd Grade, Phillybased multi-instrumentalist and Dear Life Records founder Cormier-O'Leary has made Hour a home for increasingly cinematic instrumental compositions since the mid-2010s. With dazzling production by Lucas Knapp, Ghost Bridge delivers plenty of the live ensemble's trademarks, especially cyclically developing guitar and keyboard melodies. However, even more than on Hour's last studio album, unconventional harmonies and sophisticated counterpoint take center stage here. These emotionally multifaceted compositions feel as rooted in contemporary classical and film soundtrack music as in indie rock. One of the most striking elements of Ghost Bridge is the more significant developmental role the orchestral instruments assume in each piece. Instead of underscoring Cormier-O'Leary's central hooks, there is a new mesmerizing level of detail to the group's conversational interactions and kinetic energy. "Centralia" is a stately and idiosyncratic fugue built from repeated and overlapping phrases, while Ghost Bridge's compositions are full of unexpected pivots in harmony that allow recurring melodic motifs to sound continually reshaded. On "Pearls," the chords modulate drastically around Cormier-O'Leary's inviting central melody in a way that emulates cuts in a film telling several parallel stories. There is an unsettled quality to the chords on Ghost Bridge, with Cormier- O'Leary's progressions avoiding firm grounding in either clearly sunny or melancholy tonalities. This mood is made more concrete by the record's sole vocal track, the jazz-inflected "Sky is Blue," featuring an uncannily gorgeous performance by Heeyoon Won. The song seems to be a communication from a person who has departed, offering consolation or perspective to someone left behind. Though its sonic palette is often tranquil, Ghost Bridge explores heartbreak, grief, anger, and helplessness in a distinct and pretense-free way. The project represents a bold step forward for Cormier-O'Leary as a composer and arranger, and on Ghost Bridge Hour reaches its most fully realized form to date, connecting soaring themes with an inventiveness that perfectly suits the searching nature of the subject matter.

Introduced to the richness of Brazilian music by Philippe Baden Powell, pianist Mathieu Bélis and double bassist Stéphane Dardour founded BSP PRODUCTIONS and formed the quintet Beyond Brazilian Stories, joined by saxophonist David Florsch, drummer Louis Bao Lao, and Äulne, vocalist and flutist.

Together, they revisit masterpieces by giants such as Milton Nascimento, Airto Moreira, Hermeto Pascoal, Dorival Caymmi, Edu Lobo and Moacir Santos, blending popular melodies with soaring instrumental passages.
The group also brings its own compositions, inspired by the vibrant energy of Brazilian music, creating a sound that is both authentic and innovative.

Electronic mainstays and longtime collaborators Steve Bug and Stefan Braatz return to cult NYC label Nu Groove with the vinyl edition of their four-track EP, Circles. Showcasing a refined blend of new deep house, acid and underground club sonics, the EP opens with ‘Circles’, featuring the Chicago legend Virgo Four whose vocals bring a timeless energy to the record. A driving Beat Mix follows, transforming the original into a tougher, more DJ-ready cut. On the flip, ‘Nu Acid’ dives into raw machine funk and hypnotic pressure, while ‘Thiz Mood’ closes the EP while highlighting the duo’s mastery of tension and rhythmic detail. Rooted in the spirit of classic house while sounding firmly contemporary, Circles EP is another essential addition to the Nu Groove catalogue.

World Of Echo are proud to announce the long-awaited reissue of the self-titled debut album by Bristol’s Movietone. Originally released in 1995 by Planet Records and reissued on CD in 2003 by The Pastels’ Geographic Music imprint, this is the first time Movietone has been reissued on vinyl. An expanded double-LP edition, it includes the extra tracks from the 2003 CD (their first two singles, and an unreleased demo of “Chance Is Her Opera”), and adds three more unearthed gems: demos of “Alkaline Eye” and “She Smiled Mandarine Like”, and an early take of “Late July”, recorded in a garden by Dave Pearce (Flying Saucer Attack) in 1993.

Taken together, this is the definitive collection of music from the first phase of one of Bristol’s most remarkable groups. Movietone was the cumulation of a series of events, explorations, and discoveries, starting at secondary school – the group’s core membership of Kate Wright, Rachel Brook, Matt Elliott and Matt Jones met at Cotham School in Bristol. As for many other groups, their early years were all about experimenting, and finding ways to ‘make do’, a DIY sensibility that would inform Movietone through their decade-long lifespan. From formative rehearsals in a shed in the garden of Brook’s family home, to recording early material to four-track in Redland Library, and on into the Whitehouse and Mr Grin’s studio sessions for their debut album, Movietone’s music fell together in a creatively unpredictable, yet conceptually rigorous manner.

By the time they released Movietone, they’d found a home with Bristol’s Planet, run by author Richard King and James Webster, who had both released their first two singles, “She Smiled Mandarine Like” and “Mono Valley”. There was other music happening around them in Bristol, too, from the Jones brothers’ avant-rock outfit Crescent (who were Movietone’s closest conspirators), through Elliott’s jungle/electronica project Third Eye Foundation, and Brook and Elliott’s membership of Flying Saucer Attack. A closely knit community, Movietone are the centre of this nestling architecture of groups. The vision in the music, mostly, belongs to Wright, but Movietone ran in democratic creative consort. Listening back to Movietone, you can hear this democracy in action through the wildness of the music, which is balanced by the poetics of Wright’s lyrics and melodies.

Full of half-captured memories and entangled abstractions, there’s an elliptical, ruminative quality to much of the writing here that shows the deep influence of the Beat Generation writers, along with a twilight environment captured in the songs that’s pure third-album Velvets, Galaxie 500, early Tindersticks, Codeine. Unpredictable interventions – the crashing glass in “Mono Valley”, the sudden explosions of “Orange Zero” point towards the noise blowouts of My Bloody Valentine, the unpredictability of Sonic Youth; Wright’s understated vocal cadence suggest a deep, embodied understanding of John Cage’s Indeterminacy.

Movietone would go on to make 3 fantastic albums for Domino: Night & Day (1997), The Blossom Filled Streets (2000) and The Sand & The Stars (2003) and their Peel Sessions were released earlier this year on Textile. Still held in high regard by artists like Steven R. Smith, and The Pastels, whose Stephen McRobbie once described them as “one of the great unknown English groups,” it’s an absolute thrill to listen to Movietone anew – still inspired, still seductive, still magic, still mysterious.

Futurismo proudly present a vital compilation born in the shadows of American punk; AMERICAN GRAVE Gothic Punk / Deathrock USA: 1978-1988, the third volume in their Altered Vision anthology series.

Drawing from darkest depths of the American spirit, American Grave is testament to a subculture spawned from late night savagery, graveyard hangouts and suburban isolation. Deathrock, post-punk, goth, whatever term you prefer, this compilation showcases the sounds and aesthetics of a tarnished golden era, an underground movement that took the DIY concepts of punk and the velocity of a burgeoning hardcore scene and immersed it in echoes, distortion, tribal rhythms and macabre vocals, thematically preying upon cult horror flicks, surrealism, and the manipulation of religious iconography. Whilst the UK had a counterpart scene many would hail as Goth, this was different, this was a truly American incarnation, a new breed of youth haunted by the ghosts of old blues, garage and glam, bleak theatrical imagery dressed up to evoke a response, smeared eyeliner, leather, bones…black. This was a backlash against a culture in decay, bucking against a puritanical oppression brought on by the archaic social standards set by their parents. It was aggression manifested as gloom, it was a ceremony, the celebration of death.

Jude Brothers sails toward a new shore with Dogwood Maiden Voyage. Created in living rooms, recording studios, and train tunnels between Tennessee and Arkansas, it's an adventurous album that's every bit as eclectic as its world-traveling creator. Here, Jude's vision of freethinking folk music — a multicultural sound that truly knows no borders, inspired by a vast array of global folk, sacred music, and pop songs— is given a lush update with string arrangements and vocal harmonies, shining new light on an artist who's always evolving.

Jude's songs are rarely linear. Instead, they explode outward in unexpected directions, exploring left-hand turns and detours before returning to their original paths. Caught halfway between the free-form, the freak-folk, and the finely-crafted, they tell stories about the complicated paths we take toward self-discovery, the push-and-pull between the desire to belong and the perpetual feeling of otherness, and the growth that emerges during times of barrenness. "You can sit with an old southerner on the porch and they’ll be telling you a story, and there are 17 different tangents," Jude says. "That's how I make music. I take all different plot lines and weave them together."

Throughout Dogwood Maiden Voyage, Jude indulges in childlike fantasy as an adult, encouraging fractured pieces of identity to communicate with one another. Much of that fantasy takes place in the woods, surrounded by trees, protected by the natural world that Jude's music so wistfully evokes. There's grief and darkness here, but there's light, too, like a forested landscape that's beginning to embrace spring after a long winter. Dogwood Maiden Voyage makes room for both sides of that divide. It's an album of multitudes — a record for all seasons.

he Congos possess what all bands look for, that unique distinctive sound that draws the listener in. Alongside the great songs, lead singer Cedric Myton's singing, phasing and falsetto voice makes that just the case.
The Congos were formed by Cedric Myton (b. 1947, St Catherine, Jamaica) around the mid-Seventies when the
Rasta message was central to the reggae sound coming out of Kingston, Jamaica. But he had started out in the
Rocksteady era, when he formed the vocal group 'Tartans', taking lead vocal duties alongside Devon Russell, Prince Lincoln Thompson and Lindbergh Lewis.They cut 'Dance All Night' (1967) and 'Coming On Strong' (1968). The line-Up became The Royal Rasses and from this Cedric moved on to form the Congos on meeting Roydel Johnson, who had previously sang with Ras Michael and the Sons of Negas. Cedric's Rasta roots were firmly in place when he went to work with producer Lee Perry to cut the seminal album 'Heart Of The Congos' at Perry's just built, Black Ark Studios in 1977. Cedric Myton has carried on the mantle, cutting a set of tunes with the help of his good friend Mr Brent Dowe, who had previously sang lead vocals with the Melodians.This is the Dub set to the vocal album released on the Kingston

| Palace Vinyl presents Brixton Row’s third instalment from US tech-house pioneer, Adam Collins alongside Torin Lawson and featuring Harrison Andrew.

With a breaks record on each side paired with two 4X4 tracks, the four-track EP displays the aesthetic Adam is known for whilst also pushing new territory. A nod to late 90s / early 2000s breaks can be heard on either side with measured, rolling groove and warm low-ends permeating throughout.

The B2 features a spoken vocal from Adam over a rhythm track punctuated by piano chords and playful percussion reminiscent of the acid house flavour.
