Poor Creature is comprised of Ruth Clinton, Cormac MacDiarmada and John Dermody, all three are members of other bands (Landless and Lankum respectively) who have built a large following on re-interpreting songs from the past Songs that have existed for centuries can seem immutable and anchored to time. A new generation of Irish musicians are keen to acknowledge that musical legacy, while reimagining the songs within a contemporary context. Poor Creature's sound - particularly in the context of contemporary Irish folk - offers something unique. There's the gauzy, underwater, almost psychedelic seams of 'Bury Me Not' and 'Adieu Lovely Erin'. 'All Smiles Tonight' and 'Hicks' Farewell' nod to the influence of American folk/bluegrass acts like Doc Watson and the Louvin Brothers. These shifting sounds are made possible by producer John 'Spud' Murphy, who has produced all of Lankum's albums, and worked with Junior Brother, OXN, Pretty Happy, Ye Vagabonds as as well as the final two albums by The Jimmy Cake, with whom John has played for over 20 years. "There's something about the everyday and the fantastical, being entangled, which I think Irish music does so well." This also sums up All Smiles Tonight, moving through stories and loss and history to create an otherworldly and timeless album for the ages.

Folk isn"t exactly a genre and it isn"t always an aesthetic, it"s the lore that"s curled around the roots of myths, ballads and anecdotes, burying itself just inches beneath the surface of contemporary culture. On their debut album, Canzonieri brush away some of the dust from Western civilization, excavating forgotten sonorities, philosophies and motifs to figure out what impact this knowledge might have on a chaotic, apocryphal modern reality. Processing familiar acoustic instruments and utilizing an arsenal of idiosyncratic self-built devices, acclaimed artist Emiliano Maggi and musical artist Cosimo Damiano - both members of Italian surrealist quartet Salò - survey the uneven, challenging landscape that surrounds them, calling attention to the conflicts and illusions that underpin art in all its forms. They take a widescreen view of centuries of musical evolution, juxtaposing simplicity and complexity, past and present, city life and the pull of nature to distill the essence of folk - emotional histories that are whispered from person to person.

Left field gangster synth jazz with a deep house nu boogie banger on the flip. BYRON THE AQUARIUS made their STAR CREATURE debut with a few remixes on Belgrade's IGOR JADRANIN's "CONTEMPORARY MOVEMENT" EP earlier this year. The A Side hits that squelchy synth bouncey stank face that’s heavy in the bass but light on the feet. The B Side collabs with STEVEN KLAVIER on vocals which one may recognize from his disco-forward collabs with KENNY DOPE, SOUL CLAP, KON, ELI ESCOBAR, and more.

The followup here might just do the same… Another gruesome twosome of hard hitting, left field, electro acid. The half-Finnish, half-Estonian duo LLL add a distinctly Baltic outsider edge to the classic combo of Chicago jackin' house meets UK sound system culture. Supreme deep house, balearic R&B that just nails the modern interpretation of the 80's where house & R&B were still the same thing. Think LARRY HEARD.

NYC's WALLY WONDER makes his vinyl release debut with a massive big room electro boogie remix from Mexico City's RAFAEL MARFIL, lead producer and synth extraordinaire beyond the group SHIRO SCHWARZ to back the raw & simple stank-face inducing punk-funk original slapper. Due out May 2.

Where Vol 1 gave us part FINGERS INC,TEN CITY & part ARMANDO: Vol 2 comes a bit harder with even more original analog production gear & techniques. "CALI RED" kicks this off with a massive big room space stomper. The rest of the EP follows heavily with some gritty acid & deep uncut raw tracks.

Lauren Mayberry, the frontwoman for acclaimed electro-pop band CHVRCHES, releases her eagerly awaited debut solo album, Vicious Creature, December 6th on EMI Records. Another Interplanetary STAR CREATURE team up for a Chicago Tokyo expedition across a soundscape ranging from bossa nova lounge to pre-vaporwave exotica; new age city pop to minimal library boogie. JUNE CHIKUMA is best known now for her ground breaking Video Game soundtracks throughout the late 1980s and early 90s, most notably the now cult-classic status Bomberman Hero OST for Nintendo. During this same period she produced many recordings for a wide variety of clients including Japanese Public Transit Commercials, Video Game Arcades and VHS Nature Documentaries. STAR CREATURES combed her archives and selected a nice mix of tracks as entry point into her work. These tracks have been rescued from obscurity, remastered and waxed up for contemporary universal enjoyment. 500 Copies. Pressed in Detroit.

Kairos Creature Club (KCC) is a new psychedelic rock project from Lena Simon (La Luz) and Glenn Van Dyke (BOYTOY). LA via Paris classically trained keyboard wizard DAVID ZYLBERMAN AKA GHOST from EGYPTIAN LOVER's spaced out synthfunk backing band follows up his sold out/out of print STAR CREATURE debut with another set of Contemporary Electronic Jazz Funk primed for peak hour dance floor action. After flipping bananas covers of LONNIE LISTON SMITH and ROY AYERS, he drops an original production that gives that same synth driven, rhythm forward dance vibe. The B Side takes us straight to deep space with an uptempo cracker of a remix of BRIAN BENNETT's ‘SOLSTICE” done in a zero-gravity flavor previously considered impossible. The promo copies have already seen major support from Chicago and NYC heavyweights.

French collectors have been bullish on the boogie for decades now & have spawned some of the best sounds in the genre of recent years with artists like DABEULL, HOLYBRUNE, RUDE JUDE, MOFAK, DOGGMASTER & now FRANKFURT & VOYEAR. 2 cuts here of vintage meets future synth funk with a French touch.

This is GIOVANNI's 7th collaboration with STAR CREATURE. So far he's given us electro machine funk, African inspired disco, nu-Italo, dark wave and acid boogie. This venture seems to take a slight step back to earlier 80's, maybe even late 70's style African Funk and Disco.
