When Drop Nineteens disbanded in the mid-'90s, singer Greg Ackell decided he would never make music again. He wouldn't noodle around on a guitar in his basement. He wouldn't get a group of friends together just to jam. He was done with music entirely. Following the release of the shoegaze masterpiece Delaware in 1992, and the intricate experimentations on National Coma in 1993, the group disbanded. They shared stages with Radiohead, Hole, Blur, PJ Harvey and Smashing Pumpkins. They went from being teenagers in Boston to mid-twenty-somethings with a few MTV videos, a couple BBC sessions and numerous festival appearances under their belt. So when Drop Nineteens ceased to be, Ackell felt content. He had the rest of his life in front of him to figure out what he wanted to do. Music was a closed chapter.That was until 2021, when a friend from the band's early days got Greg on the phone to suggest making some music together, just to see how it felt. Instead of shutting it down like he had been doing over the years, he decided to entertain the prospect. For the first time in nearly 30 years, he picked up a guitar with intent. He immediately called up Steve Zimmerman, the band's bassist and fellow guitarist, and the two got writing. It felt effortless for Ackell, like he never stopped writing music. "We were off to the races," he says, "But also the question came up: what does a Drop Nineteens song sound like today?" Enter Hard Light, the band's stunning third record. It's the band's proverbial follow up to Delaware, a modern Drop Nineteens record that is completely singular in its sound and vision. The first task making Hard Light was, of course, getting the rest of the band back together. Drop Nineteens is an inherently collaborative project. Ackell writes the lyrics, and he works with band members Steve Zimmerman, Paula Kelley, Motohiro Yasue, and Peter Koeplin to create the sonic world. The record came together over the course of a year, recording at a patchwork of studios all around the country: Boston, Brooklyn, San Francisco, Los Angeles. When Kelley and Ackell first heard their vocals recorded together on the opus album closer "T", the chemistry was undeniable. Making music together felt natural, fluid, exciting.Hard Light is a romantic record in the literary sense. Beauty from longing; longing from beauty. You put the album on and want to be clad in a velvet dress sprawled across a fainting couch. You want to be holding someone's hand while you sit back in the tall grass. The guitars are expansive and expressive as ever. Ackell and Kelley's vocals are cool, crystalline, and luminous. "Gal" comes on like a dream. The vocals pour in when you least expect them, once in the middle, where Ackell delivers one of the strangest (and best) lyrics on the record, "And there were snakes/with cats at the wheel." Hard Light's first single, "Scapa Flow" is triumphant and an excellent example of what a modern day Drop Nineteens song sounds like. The guitars glide cloud-like, floor toms shuffle and rumble in the background, searching. Ackell and Kelley's vocals are as toned as they are bound. Hard Light is every bit the ride that Delaware was, diverse in its sounds, with surprises at every turn. Drop Nineteens have brought clarity and cool in 2023 to the genre they helped create. In the B‑side the Brixton Heights Orchestra shines through in a full instrumental version of “Sweet Things”. The brass section takes centre stage throughout, weaving into the fabric of the song soaring trumpet lines, expressive saxophone melodies and rich trombone passages.

With the vocal removed, Gaudi shifts the focus on brass work, rhythm section and layered instrumentation, creating a continuum of different phrases, solos and riffs, carefully carved together into a reggae-jazz theme that executes in a cohesive and coherent way.

Flaw is an American nu‑metal band from Louisville, Kentucky, formed in 1996 by guitarist Jason Daunt. Lead vocalist Chris Volz joined after responding to an ad in a local newspaper. Following a series of raw independent recordings throughout the 1990s, the band signed with Republic and Universal Music Group, releasing two major‑label albums Through the Eyes in 2001 and Endangered Species in 2004. Breakups, lineup changes, and internal conflicts affected the band for much of the decade, though from 2015 to 2017 they reunited with three core members to tour and write new material.

Originally released at the height of the early‑2000s alt‑metal wave, Flaw’s explosive debut Through The Eyes quickly became a defining record of the era. Led by the unmistakable voice of Chris Volz, the band crafted a sound that fused emotional intensity, sharp guitar work, and melodic hooks that resonated with a generation. The album reached #119 on the Billboard 200, and produced two singles, “Payback” and “Whole”. Another standout track, “Only the Strong”, was featured on the soundtrack of the 2002 action film The Scorpion King.

Now celebrating its 25th anniversary, Through the Eyes is available on vinyl for the first time as a double album. This edition includes an insert with lyrics and features a bonus hidden track.

"There are two versions of this album," says Hollow Hand's Max Kinghorn-Mills. "But there's only one that exists." Kinghorn-Mills is reflecting on a period when he was at something of a crossroads. Sales Note CD: Anlässlich des 40-jährigen Jubiläums von David Lynchs Meisterwerk „Blue Velvet“ aus dem
Jahr 1986 freut sich Varèse Sarabande, eine neue CD-Ausgabe und LP-Ausgabe von Angelo Badalamentis
Musik zum Film präsentieren zu dürfen. Lynch und Badalamenti, die beide im Jahr 2025 verstorben sind,
nachdem sie jahrzehntelang als eines der ikonischsten kreativen Duos der Filmgeschichte gegolten hatten,
schufen eine einzigartige Klangwelt, die von „Twin Peaks“ bis „Mulholland Drive“ reichte.

„King of Having Fun“ wurde in der Hitze des Sommers geschrieben und live mit Freunden und Mitwirkenden
aufgenommen. Das Album erzählt von der Kluft zwischen dem neugierigen Kind, das mit seinem Fahrrad
zu weit von zu Hause wegfährt, und dem erwachsenen Mann, der an den falschen Orten nach Erleichterung
sucht. Mit einer Mischung aus Country, Rock und Indie thematisiert das Album Freundschaft, Freiheit,
Sucht, Angst, Liebe und das Streben nach dem Gefühl, wirklich lebendig zu sein.

Wir feiern das 30-jährige Jubiläum von Another Level. Das zweite Studioalbum von Blackstreet erschien 1996 bei Interscope Records und markiert den kommerziellen Höhepunkt der Gruppe. Es verbindet
geschmeidige R&B-Harmonien mit Hip-Hop-Produktionen und einem ausgefeilten, radiotauglichen Sound.
Das Album wurde größtenteils von Gruppenbegründer Teddy Riley produziert, einem Pionier des New
Jack Swing, und vereint gefühlvolle Balladen, groovige Midtempo-Tracks und cluborientierte Songs. Dabei
präsentiert es Blackstreets charakteristische Mischung aus romantischen Themen, urbanem Flair und stimmlicher Präzision.
Im Mittelpunkt des Albums steht der weltweite Megahit „No Diggity“ mit Dr. Dre und Queen Pen. Der
Song wurde mit einem Grammy Award ausgezeichnet und entwickelte sich zu einem der prägendsten R&B-

Starkes Albumdebut des Surf-Psych-Groove-Instrumental-Trios Goblyns. »Hunki Bobo« brauch sich hinter Größen wie The Meters, W.I.T.C.H, Khruangbin und Can nicht verstecken. The Meters, W.I.T.C.H, Khruangbin und Can: das sind nur einige der Bands, die die Psychrock-Newcomer Goblyns als Einflüsse auf ihren Sound nennen. In Südafrika gegründet leben die drei Bandmitglieder mittlerweile in Berlin und Amsterdam. In Europa schrieben die Drei auch die Songs für ihr Debutalbum. Die acht Tracks auf »Hunki Bobo« wurde in einem fünftägigen Studiorausch im schwülen Juli 2023 unter der erfahrenen Leitung von Andre Leo aufgenommen. Leo ist vor allem für seine Arbeit mit Medicine Boy und Wombed bekannt und hat zusammen mit den Musikern etwas ganz besonderes erschaffen. Das Album hat eine einzigartige Dynamik und steckt voller Energie. Jeder Song strahlt einen Groove aus, dem man sich schwer entziehen kann. Ob düstere Krautrock-Hypnose, grooviger Surf, Psychedelica. Goblyns fesseln den Hörer an das gesamte Album.

Nachdem sie jahrelang durch's Netz, durch Köpfe und Herzen geisterte, hier nun endlich das Debüt-Album, auf dem die mittlerweile in Berlin ansässige Formation ein graziöses Kleinod liefert, das Melancholie und Aufbruchstimmung in sich vereint und mit seiner wundervollen Inszenierung sofort unter die Haut geht. Voodoo Beach liefern mit »Wonderful Life« Postpunk / Noiserock auf höchstem Niveau. Ähnlich wie Karies, Die Nerven, Friends Of Gas oder Messer, haben sich Voodoo Beach durch 90er Jahre Noiserock prägen lassen und vermengen diese Einflüsse mit offensichtlicher Liebe zu Postpunk und Shoegaze. Harte Anschläge treffen auf durch den Äther wabernde Gitarren-Riffs, walzende Basslines und packendes Drumming. Faszinierend die Chords der Gitarre mit einem manchmal leicht nahöstlichen Touch, aber immer im Postpunk-Noiserock-Psychedelic-Modus. Darüber thronen die verrauchten Vocals von Sängerin Heike Rädeker, deren vorgetragene Texte so ehrlich sind, dass sie weh tun. Mit Hendrik Otremba (Messer) und John Moods (Fenster) konnte die Band tolle Gastbeiträge für das Album gewinnen. Eine der Platten des Jahres!

Howl. Hammer strikes firing pin. Its echo ricochets over river bend. The woodpecker’s syncopated pop-pop-pop clink and thwap in time with cops practicing prayer at the firing range.

Quick. Sketch a few constellations onto a postcard: empty shotgun shells, these pre-forgotten fossils snaking rusted railroad spikes, like snagged rosary, fallen poplar petals draped over cerulean glass ashtray scattered along glittering fractures, ignored like a treaty. Train tracks reverberate necrophilic boomerang-hunger for mountain air without that coal dust. Eat. Eat. Everything is real estate. Even the air is for sale. Buy it cheap while I.C.E. carves through the valley along the Trail of Tears in unmarked SUVs, traffic stops.

Howl. Callback to estranged entanglements oscillating over holler and highway. Meet on the porch. Haint-blue ceiling. Some ghosts can’t get through anyway. They got tied up on the Walnut Street Bridge by a mob of white spit. Howl. The South should scare you.

But the woodpecker is still nesting, hungry, typing uncannied punctuation marks into black oak: a deed. Home? Takes a side-eyed knowing to call by name. The moon sickles in a sweating glass of iced tea.

Speculation cycle: symmetry as ancient as sour-dank betrayal of the tongue, bitter bones binding blood and lead, alchemical forgetting like I found a hairbrush in the yard while planting wild irises, like someone is charging $10 for an old glass Coke bottle, like semicolons itching restless under new sod from no-one-knows-where. Howl. Sing back. History is soil-in-stereo.

How will this line end? Like riverbank? Like atlatl arching hope smash-through a stained glass window? Words fall out of the sky, and 30 American flags snap at attention on the bridge. Howl. A shift in the wind gallops through the streets tossing her head back, laughing.

Tennessee River, who once kissed Pangea, how she softens at the knuckle-suck of it all, that secret-sweet stowed in the feathers of sandhill cranes lifting up on warm summer breeze: slow-shooting stars bending toward unbothered brevitas.

For 10 years, the Austin, Texas- based experimental avant- pop/ electronic musician, born Roger Sellers, has been creating atmospheric soundscapes brimming with layers, texture, and deep emotional resonance. On his fourth and most immersive album to date, 'Filters', Sellers picks up where he left us on 2023's mournful yet popminded 'Temporary Time'. With its elegantly constructed melodies, silken synth-work, a sprinkle of field recordings, and an upbeat yet blissful blend of piano and percussion, Filters finds Sellers entering a new phase of existence as he works through the grief around losing his father and into a place of acceptance.

Even the songs that aren't about Love, also are. They are about the absence of love, and what happens in those spaces, so they are songs about the necessity of love, and the consequences of its absences.

Lisa O"Neill stammt aus Ballyhaise im irischen County Cavan und lebt heute in Dublin. Ihr Album Heard A Long Gone Song, erschienen auf River Lea (Rough Trade), verbindet traditionelle Folk-Lieder mit eigenen Kompositionen. Durch ihre unverwechselbare Interpretation verschmelzen alte und neue Stücke zu einem zeitlosen Ganzen. Das Album eröffnet mit einer puren, unbegleiteten Version von The Galway Shawl, gefolgt von der düsteren Ballade Along The North Strand, die durch Geige und Concertina eindringlich untermalt wird. Ein weiterer Höhepunkt ist das bewegende Duett The Factory Girl mit Radie Peat von Lankum. 2018 trat O"Neill bei Shane MacGowans 60. Geburtstag in der National Concert Hall in Dublin auf. Auf dem Album interpretiert sie zudem Lullaby Of London von The Pogues, dessen Textzeile dem Album den Titel gab. Zu ihren eigenen Liedern gehören Rock The Machine, das die Folgen der Mechanisierung für ehemalige Hafenarbeiter in Dublin thematisiert, sowie Violet Gibson, die Geschichte einer Irin, die 1926 ein Attentat auf Mussolini verüben wollte. Mit diesen Stücken verleiht O"Neill oft übersehenen Menschen und Geschichten eine Stimme. Aufgenommen in einem ländlichen Studio nahe dem Loiretal und produziert von David Odlum und Lisa O"Neill, knüpft das Album an den Erfolg von Pothole In The Sky (2016) an. Es ist eine zugleich politische, poetische und zutiefst persönliche Folk-Platte, deren Lieder zeitlos wirken.

Seit ihrer Debüt-EP "Billstedt" aus dem Jahr 2020 schrauben Christian Klindworth, Antoine Laval und Lars Brunkhorst an ihrem ganz und gar eigenen Sound zwischen Postpunk und melodienverliebtem Indierock. fluppe haben mit "Blüte" (2021) und "Boutique" (2023) zwei Alben veröffentlicht. Sie sind beim Reeperbahn Festival aufgetreten, haben für Turbostaat eröffnet, doch vor allem sind sie unermüdlich durch die Clubs getourt und haben ihre eigenen Shows gespielt. Aber klar, auch an fluppe schrappt die Polykrisen-Gegenwart nicht einfach vorbei, zumal es vermutlich unumgänglich ist, dass hier und da mal Cure-Gitarren durchschimmern, wenn man ein Album mit Produzent Tobias Siebert (Klez.e, And The Golden Choir) aufnimmt.
