Das hat doch alles keinen Wert mehr! …oder doch!?
Genau diese Frage stellte sich der Berliner Sänger &
Songschreiber ALEX MORGEN im Frühjahr 2020, als er, kurz
vor Beginn der Corona Pandemie, sein Debütalbum „Vom
Siegen & Scheitern“ veröffentlichte.
Das Schallmagazin schrieb damals MORGENs „raue, kratzige
Stimme würden in Verbindung mit dem pur wirkenden
Gitarrenspiel genau die Emotionen vermitteln, die in
glattgebügelten Studioproduktionen häufig zu kurz kommen“
und betitelte sein Album deshalb als „Lebendige Musik“.
Genau diese Authentizität und dieser Charakter waren dem
Sänger & Songschreiber in seinen Songs immer sehr wichtig.
Die Frage, ob es sich in diesen schnelllebigen Zeiten, in denen
es vor allem darum geht, in welchen Playlisten man als
Künstler landet, noch lohnt ein ganzes Album aufzunehmen,
stellte sich dem Berliner nie. Für ihn zeigt sich die wahre
Klasse eines Künstlers in der Qualität seiner Alben und erst in
zweiter Linie in den einzelnen Songs.
Also schloss sich MORGEN während des ersten Lockdowns
wieder in seinem Homestudio ein und schrieb neue Songs.
Zusammen mit dem Produzenten Christian Kreutzer nahmen
die beiden schließlich im Laufe der nächsten beiden Jahre 13
Songs auf.
Stilistisch ließ man verschiedene Genres mit einfließen,
orientierte sich aber am Sound der 80er Jahre. Irgendwo
zwischen Bruce Springsteen, Herbert Grönemeyer und Eddie
Money, garniert mit einer modernen Note à la „the Weeknd“
entwickelte sich schließlich der eigene Charakter des Albums

"Zuversicht, Vertrauen, das ist das Thema meiner Platte und ich glaube, jeder kann damit etwas anfangen", sagt die preisgekrönte nigerianisch-deutsche Künstlerin NNEKA über ihr neues Album "Love Supreme", das am 11. Februar 2022 erscheinen wird. Die von der Sunday Times als die neue Lauryn Hill gefeierte Sängerin veröffentlicht ihren ersten Longplayer seit dem vor sechs Jahren auf gleichem Label erschienenem Mini-Album "My Fairy Tales".

Die dreizehn Songs auf "Love Supreme" präsentieren Fortsetzung und Aufbruch zugleich. Während "This Life", die einzige Uptempo-Single des Albums, "About Guilt", "Walk Away" und einige andere mit dem langjährigen Partner Farhot geschrieben und produziert wurden, oder "With You" mit Mounir Maarouf entstand, der für den Großteil von "My Fairy Tales" verantwortlich war, arbeitete sie auch mit dem Berliner Produzenten/Autor Unik ("Tea?") und Klimperboy ("Love Supreme") und BASS-Produktionen ("Maya", "Yahweh") aus Hamburg zusammen. Es wird Zeit für "Love Supreme", denn diese einzigartige Künstlerin war ihrer Zeit immer voraus. Seit 2011, als sie ihr letztes richtiges Album "Soul Is Heavy" veröffentlichte, entstand eine neue Generation afroamerikanischer und afroeuropäischer Künstler, die nach dem Festival mit dem gleichen Namen "Afro-Punk" bezeichnet wurden. Musikalisch eklektisch präsentieren sie sich lässiger und alternativer, nicht nur was Kleidung und Frisuren angeht, sondern auch was Überzeugungen und allgemeines Interesse angeht. Etwas, das Nneka von Anfang an getan hat!

Nneka hat drei vorherige Alben veröffentlicht. Ihre Single Heartbeat aus 2009 brachte ihr einen UK-Top-20-Hit ein und wurde auch von Rita Ora für ihren #1 UK-Hit R.I.P. gesampelt. Sie gewann 2009 einen MOBO für den besten afrikanischen Act und trat in der David Letterman Show und in BETs 106 & Park auf. 2014 trat Nneka der Jury der 4. Staffel von "Nigerian Idol" bei. Nneka hat fast 300 Shows in Europa und über 100 Shows in den USA und Kanada vor über 1.000.000 Zuschauern in über 35 Ländern gespielt.

If you lived in New York during the 1950s through the 1990s and liked jazz, you knew about Bobby Cole. He played piano, sang, composed, arranged and, in 1967, released an album of original compositions titled "A Point of View" (Concentric Records). He had fans but avoided becoming mainstream. He stayed contemporary without becoming current. Jazz, folk, rock, modern dance scores…he wrote and performed them all. He smoked too much, drugged too much, drank too much. He was also cerebral, curious, a prodigious reader of poetry, philosophy, theology, and an uncommonly intelligent and literate lyricist.

On a December night in 1996, he had a heart attack while walking to work. An ambulance brought him to New York Hospital where, a few hours later, he died. Bobby Cole performed throughout Manhattan for forty years, but he spent most of the 1960s headlining at Jilly's, the midtown bistro owned by Frank Sinatra and his friend Jilly Rizzo. Sinatra called Bobby "my favorite saloon singer."

Bobby Cole caught the attention of Judy Garland, who visited Jilly's one night in 1964. She was hosting a weekly television show, and in the midst of a feud with her special materials arranger, Mel Torme. Three weeks later, Mel was out, and Bobby was in. He performed on Judy's show with his Trio. Bobby was scarcely 30 years old and it was his first time on television, but he was unruffled, sophisticated, and so damn cool. After Judy's show ended, Bobby occasionally arranged and conducted for her until she died.

Today, Jilly's is called the Russian Samovar and the piano is in the same spot. My husband and I ate there a few years ago. As we enjoyed our meal, I talked about Jilly's in the Sinatra era. Jilly had an apartment on the upper floor. I pointed up to the apartment and the balcony, where Jilly and Frank would sometimes drop water-balloons on unsuspecting pedestrians below. Another story described Jilly's as "tough, and you had to be tough to work there. Bobby Cole was tough. Frank and Jilly used to throw firecrackers at him to see if they could rattle him, but nothing rattled Bobby Cole. He ignored them and kept on playing." In the 1980s, Bobby headlined at a club called the Café Versailles. His daughter sometimes visited with her friends. She recalled that when she and her father would exit the club after work, a panhandler would be waiting for him. Bobby, who fought his own losing battle with the bottle, would slip the guy twenty dollars and wryly admonish him, "Be sure not to spend it on food." The night my husband and I visited the Russian Samovar there was a guy playing piano there, very young, and trying hard. I talked to him a little bit between his numbers about Bobby and the history of Jilly's and he was sweet, but I could tell he didn't care. I felt like one of those old people who bore young people to death with stories about things that happened before they were born – which, let's face it, is what I was. Nonetheless, when we were ready to leave, I put twenty dollars in his tip jar and said, "This is with compliments from Bobby Cole." After we left my husband said I should have added, "Be sure not to spend it on food."

Es gibt eine Dub-Serie die seit Jahren für Furore sorgt, und das seit der VÖ der "KING SIZE DUB 1" (damals in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Kult-Magazin SPEX) im Jahre 1994! In der Serie gab es immer wieder Ausflüge zu obskursen Zählweisen (Vol.69) und Specials über bestimmte Regionen (Dub In Germany), Labels (ON-U Sound Records aus London) oder Bands (Dubmatix aus Toronto)! Wunderbar, dass nun mit KSD 25 eine weitere Compilation der Reihe Dub als vielschichtige Kunst des Klangmischens darstellt. Im Rahmen dieser Ausgabe dubben sich alte und neue Freunde des Hauses Echo Beach gegenseitig oder präsentieren eigene Versionen von Pop- und Reggae-Hits von u.a. Ramones, Bob Marley, Blondie, Robert Palmer und David Bowie. Die Musik suggeriert Sonnenschein und Sound Systems, heissen Sand und coole Drinks, der Bass schlurft gelassen aber auch aufreizend rebellisch. Dub ist die Kunst des Disk Jockeys, den sie zunächst in Jamaika zum Star erhoben haben. In den Fünfzigern waren dort Musikmobile, die "Sound Systems", der Ersatz für fehlende Radiosender. Die auf Exklusivität bedachten DJs nahmen ihre Hitsingles bald selbst auf, mit instrumentalen Rückseiten für Ulk und Ansagen. Ende der Sechziger verselbständigte sich dieser Dub durch den technischen Fortschritt. King Tubby und Lee "Scratch" Perry spielten mit Hall, Echo und rückläufigen Bändern. Dub löste sich von Jamaika, ging nach New York oder London, wo er in seiner Militanz gut zum Punk passte.

Am 3. Juni erscheint das 3LP Album ”The Matrix (The Complete Score)” mit der gesamten Musik aus dem Original-Blockbuster-Film.

Mit insgesamt 44 neu gemasterte Tracks und ein exklusives Interview mit Komponist Don Davis! Die Matrix gilt seit langem als einer der einflussreichsten Filme aller Zeiten und läutete bei seiner Veröffentlichung 1999 eine neue Ära des Kinos ein. Unter der Regie der damals noch relativ unbekannten Wachowski-Geschwister schildert der Oscar-prämierte Film eine futuristische, dystopische Gesellschaft, in der die Menschen unwissentlich in einer simulierten Realität leben. Mit Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne und Carrie-Anne Moss in den Hauptrollen verbindet The Matrix philosophische Grundsätze, CyberpunkKriegsführung und ausgefeilte Kampfsporttechniken mit bahnbrechenden Spezialeffekten. Der geschickt komponierte Soundtrack von Davis ist das Bindeglied zwischen der atemberaubenden Optik und der verblüffenden Handlung des Films.

Wie der Filmmusikjournalist Kaya Savas in seinem Interview mit Davis im Jahr 2020 feststellt, war die Filmmusik ”anders als alles, was man bis dahin in einem Action- oder Science-Fiction-Film gehört hatte.
Das gilt auch heute noch. Abgesehen von den Fortsetzungen gibt es keinen anderen Stil und keine andere Herangehensweise an die Vertonung von Science-Fiction- und Actionfilmen als die von The Matrix.”

Roxy Music veröffentlichen am 13. Mai eine neue Half-Speed gemasterte Version ihres Albums „Country Life“.

Es ist das erste Album von Roxy Music das es in die US-Top-40 Charts schaffte. Damit zeigte die Band, dass sie auch mit ihrem vierten Album noch genauso kreativ, kühn und bahnbrechend war wie auf ihrem Debüt-Album. „Country Life“, das mit dem treibenden „The Thrill Of It All“ beginnt, umfasst avantgardistische Songstrukturen, berührende Balladen, englische Nostalgie, viszeralen Hardrock, europäische Einflüsse und sogar mittelalterliche christliche Referenzen.

Anlässlich des 50-jährigen Jubiläums von Roxy Music wurde ”Country Life” von Miles Showell in den Abbey Road Studios in London neu gemastert. Um die verbesserte Audioqualität widerzuspiegeln, wurde das Artwork überarbeitet und mit einer glänzenden Laminierung versehen, sodass das Album nicht nur eine
Schallplatte, sondern ein Kunstwerk ist.

Lowest Form of Animal — Kublai Khan TX

Texas metalcore band Kublai Khan TX recently released the new song "Resentment," and now they've announced a new EP, Lowest Form of Animal, featuring that song and four others. Along with the announcement comes new single "Swan Song," which features guest vocals from Terror (and Buried Alive and World Be Free) frontman Scott Vogel.
"'Swan Song' re-tells many of life's harshest realities — both from afar and close to home," says vocalist Matthew Honeycutt. "Seeing the mental and physical damage of the sex trade in every corner and pocket of the USA — most remaining nameless and unsung. Da sich trotz der Trennung ihre Liebe zum dunklen, melodischen Art-Rock und zur psychedelische Musik aber keineswegs erkaltet hatte, beschloss die Gruppe enger Freunde noch weitere gute Bekannte zu rekrutieren, unter denen sich aktive und ehemalige Mitglieder von AT THE GATES, ISON, TACOMA NARROWS BRIDGE DISASTER und LOUISE LEMÓN befanden. Damit war die neue Rockband VENUS PRINCIPLE geboren. Obwohl "Stand in Your Light" ganz am Anfang einer langen Karriere steht, liefern VENUS PRINCIPLE bereits ein ausgereiftes Meisterwerk ab. Dieses Album vollbringt das schwierige Kunststück, die Anhänger von Rock und Metal gleichermaßen zu begeistern.

Camille Bertault and David Helbock are two of the most jawdroppingly talented members of the cohort of European jazz
musicians currently in their mid-Thirties. Their journeys in improvised
music are always adventurous, playful and exciting.
 She is the rising star of French vocal jazz. He, Austrian-born, is one
of the most fascinating pianists on the scene. Their personalities
appear to be polar opposites, yet Bertault’s livewire humour and
Helbock’s calm self-assuredness only appear different on the surface.
When it comes to the musical choices they make, they are
emphatically on the same page. Each is astonishingly versatile, with
an innate sense of dramaturgy. This voice / piano duo reaches
unbelievable levels of inventiveness here on ‘Playground’.
 “We both love Egberto Gismonti and Hermeto Pascoal, Björk and
Monk,” Helbock explains. “We also wanted a classical piece.” The
duo found the initial repertoire to explore and to spread their musical
wings with relative ease. Bertault’s vocal artistry is hers and hers
alone. Her voice is a magnificent instrument to carry a melody,
whether at breakneck speed and with devastating precision or at
pindrop volume. Helbock’s creativity, as he exploits all the sound
possibilities of the grand piano, is completely ‘sui generis’ as well. He
dampens the piano strings, he plays directly on them, he uses the
piano case as a percussion instrument, he makes use of electronics.
And ‘Playground’ is the first time he has worked with loops.
 His accompaniment therefore has an almost orchestral scale and
depth, a jewel case for this scintillating and very special voice. The
pair have written seven new numbers for the album: we hear the
whimsical blues of ‘Lonely Supamen’, the mysterious ‘Fabelwesen’,
the chanson-esque ‘Aide-moi’ and the ethereal-melancholic ‘Bizarre’.
 ‘Playground’ is a kaleidoscope of sounds and emotions which
invigorates, excites - and will always surprise. The craft and
technique may be breath taking, but neither musician ever forgets the
essential: “It’s not about showing strength or virtuosity, but about
expressing the truth of the moment,” says Camille Bertault. And that
is what she and David Helbock have delivered with each and every
track.

Als REGENER PAPPIK BUSCH überraschten Sven Regener (Trompete), Richard Pappik (Schlagzeug) und Ekki Busch (Klavier), alle drei bekannt als Musiker der Gruppe ELEMENT OF CRIME im letzten Jahr mit „Ask Me Now“, einer Jazzplatte der ganz besonderen Art. Und gelangten damit auch gleich an die Spitze der Deutschen Jazz Charts im Monat März.

Nun legen sie nach mit „Things To Come“. Und auch auf dem zweiten Album bleiben sie ihrem Konzept treu: Klassikern des Modernen Jazz eine neue, eigenwillige, vor allem aber auch wilde und exzentrische
Interpretation zu geben.

REGENER PAPPIK BUSCH sind ein durchaus ungewöhnliches Trio.
Der Sound ist zuweilen hart und direkt, zuweilen aber auch ausgesprochen zärtlich und cool. Sie schlängeln sich - zwischen Minimalismus, musikalischem Brutalismus und Jazzklassizismus changierend - durch ein Repertoire ausgesprochen berühmter Stücke von Thelonius Monk, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles
Davis, Ornette Coleman et alteri und drücken ihnen ihren eigenen, unverwechselbaren Stempel auf. Der Blues als Brücke, als wichtiges Element, gepaart mit der Liebe zum Modernen, zum etwas Schrägen, zum Avantgardistischen, was sowohl ELEMENT OF CRIME im Rock, als auch REGENER PAPPIK BUSCH im Jazz auszeichnet.

Am 27. Mai erscheint eine aktualisierte Version der ABBA Albumsammlungen, die zum ersten Mal auch das neue Studioalbum „Voyage“ enthält.

Trees Speak are Daniel Martin Diaz and Damian Diaz from Tucson, Arizona and their music often draws on the cosmic nighttime magic of Arizona’s natural desert landscapes. ‘Trees Speak’ relates to the idea of future technologies storing
information and data in trees and plants - using them as hard drives - and the idea that Trees communicate collectively.
Special guests from the hyper-creative hub of the Tucson music scene on this release are Gabriel Sullivan, Ben Nisbet, Saul
Millan, Stephani Guilmette, and Davis Jones.

‘As we travel through space and time, avoiding the discarded remains of the industrial period, the
deconstruction of social norms through the expression of art, music, and philosophy guide the human
experience towards the unknown.
All that remains are musical echoes scattered throughout the universe, like ancient vibrations that now
populate the cosmos. These waves now show signs of decay. Melody, beauty, tonality have all but fallen
away as dissonance blossoms. As John Cage wrote in 1937,
“Whereas, in the past, the point of disagreement has been between dissonance and consonance, it will be,
in the immediate future, between noise and so-called musical sounds. New methods will be discovered,
bearing a definite relation to Schoenberg’s twelve-tone system and present methods of writing percussion
music and any other methods which are
free from the concept of a fundamental tone”.
Similarly, George Van Tassel claimed the Integratron as capable of
rejuvenation, anti-gravity, and time travel. So, what remains of the
“people”? We have adopted from them our own Zeitgeber: their pulses
now guide our sun, our planets, our earths, and are the new circadian,
diurnal, and ultradian rhythms of the galaxy. Traumsprache, dream

A demon with demands, a demon with demands. Es ist ein Spätsommerabend in der Dortmunder Nordstadt, in die warme Luft sind schon erste kühle Fäden eingewoben, die den Herbst ankündigen. Passanten flanieren durch die Straßen, auf der Suche nach einer Kneipe oder einem Imbiss und achten nicht auf die vier jungen Männer, die auf einer Biertischgarnitur vor einem Kiosk sitzen. Offene Flaschen, Kronkorken mit Ascheresten, Pfützen auf dem Holzlack: Es ist ein guter Abend, ungezwungen und fröhlich. Oder besser: Es könnte ein guter Abend sein. Denn über den vier Köpfen kreisen dunkle Wolken, Gedankenspiralen, aus denen kein Ausweg gefunden wird: Bei einem ist es die Angst vor Konflikten, die immer und immer wieder mit einer Flucht gelöst wird, sein Blick streift das abgestellte Auto, das ihn jederzeit wegbringen könnte. Beim anderen das Wissen, das jetzt eigentlich mal eine Entscheidung her müsste in dieser festgefahrenen Beziehung, in der man es sich zwar schön gemütlich gemacht hat, aber nun der Stillstand Einzug gehalten hat. Lauter kleine böse Gedanken, die man nicht loswird, sich immer wieder mit ihnen schlafen legt, sie füttert, hegt und pflegt, anbetet und verehrt. Heilige Dämonen. "Holy Demon" ist der Name des ersten Studio-Albums der Drens, eben jener jungen Männer, die sich dort vor dem Büdchen getroffen und dabei ihre Dämonen beschworen haben…

…Auf den 10 Songs liegen sie mit ihren eigenen Abgründen im Disput, mit den großen, mit den kleinen, "I know that this won't ever come true/ Felt first like glitter then so bitter couldn't hold on to you/ I just hold on to my holy demon/ And I can't resist this toxic feeling", lauter kleine Teufelchen, die man nur noch schwer loswird, die sich in toxischen Verhaltensweisen, im Kampf mit sich selbst ausdrücken. Nur noch als vage Erinnerung liegen die unbekümmerte Zeit der Bolzplätze und blutigen Knie zurück, zerrissene Hosen, high vom Schrottgras von der Straßenecke, über sich die sengende Sonne, aber im Reinen mit der Welt, "Our dreams were small/ Only needed a ball/ Because time was our highest good". Stattdessen geht es steil nach oben, aber der Abgrund klafft immer schwindelerregender neben dem Weg an die Spitze, "For so long I missed/ To see the hole I fell in love with". Drens wissen, wovon sie reden: Ihre Debüt-EP "Pet Peeves" brachte der Band ausverkaufte Shows und Festivalsommer ein, selbst im Scheissjahr 2020 konnten sie via Stream auf dem Eurosonic in Groningen spielen, die deutsche Netflix-Erfolgsproduktion "How To Sell Drugs Online (Fast)" nutzte einen Song als Soundtrack. Und auch wenn "Holy Demon" die feinen Haarrisse im Privaten behandelt, der Sound der Band klingt groß und wuchtig, dem fuzzy Surf- und Garagesound der ersten Releases wurden eine große Portion Alternative Rock verpasst, so dass das Album nach kämpferischer Aufbruchsstimmung klingt, den Dämonen wird trotzig ins Gesicht gelacht. Für dieses Update ist auch Produzent Sebastian "Zebo" Adams verantwortlich, der bereits für Bilderbuch das ikonische Klangbild von "Schick Schock" entwickelte. Diese Zusammenarbeit entfaltet auf dem Debüt-Album von Drens eine betörende Wirkung zwischen den dunkel schillernden Texten und dem kraftvollen Popappeal der Musik. Und so ist "Holy Demon" ein Augenblick für die Ewigkeit, ein Foto von diesem Abend vor den flackernden Kioskschildern, aus dem spannendsten Moment einer jungen Band: Ein letzter Blick in die Vergangenheit, aber die Füße bereits in einer bewegten, großen Zukunft

Generation '22: Chanson mit Seele

Wenn andere Jubiläen begehen, dann schwelgen sie in Erinnerungen. Le Pop ist anders:
Unsere Nummer 10 schaut nach vorn. Sie ist jünger, femininer und souliger als ihre
Vorgänger. Und stellt 16 neue Namen vor, die zuvor auf keiner anderen Ausgabe zu finden
waren. Die neuen Stars heißen Emma Peters, Iliona, UssaR, P.R2B, Ariane Roy und
Clou. Viele dieser Namen stehen am Anfang ihrer Karriere, haben bisher erst eine EP, ein
Album oder ein paar Singles draußen und doch ist spürbar, dass diese neue Generation das
Nouvelle Chanson prägen wird. Nicht alle sind Newcomer, aber Künstlerinnen und Künstler
wie KCIDY, Voyou, Malik Djoudi und Laura Cahen haben in den letzten 4 Jahren (so lange
ist Le Pop 9 schon draußen) eine so fulminante Entwicklung gemacht, dass wir sie diesmal
unbedingt vorstellen wollten. Dazu gesellen sich Schauspielerinnen wie Edwige, Elisa Erka
und Suzanne Lindon, die sich zum ersten Mal als Sängerinnen präsentieren. Ganz
besonders erwähnenswert: Camélia Jordana – einerseits als Musikerin in der Charts-Welt
etabliert, anderseits César-prämierte Schauspielerin, trägt sie in dieser illustren Runde sicher
den glamourösesten Namen.

Doch was macht sie aus, diese neue Generation? Zuerst einmal das Offensichtlichste: Nur
vier der hier vorgestellten Stimmen sind männlich. Das Chanson wird weiblicher und
orientiert sich damit an den Erfahrungen der letzten 20 Jahre. Denn meistens waren es die
Frauen der aktuellen Szene, die sich in der Breite auch im Ausland durchgesetzt haben (man
denke nur an Zaz, Coeur de pirate und Angèle). Le Pop 10 ist nicht nur femininer, die neue
Generation ist auch viel stärker durch die Präsenz von HipHop und R'n'B geprägt. Ein
richtiges Crossover findet zwar nicht statt, dafür merkt man, dass das heutige Chanson
grooviger geworden ist, soul-lastiger auch und punktuell tatsächlich Rap-Anklänge mitliefert.
Besonders deutlich wird das bei P.R2B, die gelegentlich in den Sprechgesang wechselt, bei
Emma Peters, die sogar ein ganzes Album mit Coverversionen von französischen Rap- und
R'n'B-Hits veröffentlichte, bevor sie eigene Songs aufnahm und bei UssaR, der als
Bühnenmusiker auch Rapper wie Kery James und Youssoupha begleitet. Vielleicht nicht
ganz so deutlich, aber wunderschön und subtil binden Iliona aus Belgien (was für eine
Entdeckung!) und Ariane Roy aus Kanada Soul-Elemente in ihre Musik mit ein. Selbst bei
Uptempo-Nummern wie "Le confort" von Voyou ist ein Hauch Motown zu spüren.
Selbstverständlich fehlt auch diesmal nicht der Einfluss von britischem Pop und Americana.
Die Band Palatine etwa ist gitarrenlastig, bringt Folk-Elemente mit und verbindet dies sehr
elegant mit Chanson-Tradition. Bei Laura Cahan finden wir Einflüsse der Cocteau Twins,
Kate Bush aber auch Anklänge an Camille oder Keren Ann. Eine erstaunliche Entwicklung
legte KCIDY hin, die nach einer längeren Phase des Experimentierens mit Elektro und Wave
auf einmal einen mit Vocal-Harmonien, Kraut- und 70ies-Elementen veredelten Gitarrenpop
aus dem Hut zaubert, der nur theoretisch aus der Zeit zu fallen scheint und sich doch ganz
harmonisch in den Gesamtklang der Compilation einfügt.

Und dann ist da auch noch Edwige, eine belgische Schauspielerin, der es nicht mehr
genügte gelegentlich auf Theaterbühnen zu singen. Sie hat ein traumhaftes, in dezenten
Gitarrenarrangements ausgekleidetes Debüt-Album aufgenommen, das im Herbst 2022
erscheinen soll. Ihren Song "Corps & Ame" hat sie uns vorab exklusiv für diese Compilation
überlassen. Den Tipp, uns mit Edwige zu beschäftigen, bekamen wir übrigens von Albin de
la Simone (seit Le Pop 2 immer wieder vorgestellt), der auch schon ein Duett mit ihr
aufgenommen hat.

Mit De La Simone, seit seiner Arbeit für Carla Bruni und das Durchbruch-Album von Pomme
(Le Pop 9) einer der meist gebuchten Produzenten der Szene, sprachen wir anlässlich
seines Konzerts bei der Kölner Reihe "Le Pop La Série" über junge Künstlerinnen wie Iliona,
Clou, Emma Peters und über deren Karrierewege. Dabei machte er uns auch auf Ariane
Roy aufmerksam. Wie sie sind viele der hier vorgestellten Namen Labelmates oder Protegés
etablierter Künstler.

Das sind nicht immer zufällige Beziehungen. In Frankreich erntet das neue Chanson zudem
immer mehr die Früchte des Casting-Show-Booms der letzten 15 Jahre. Hier bekommen
viele Teilnehmer irgendwann die Chance mit renommierten Musikern zusammenzuarbeiten.
Carla de Coignac zum Beispiel flog zwar noch vor dem Finale bei "Nouvelle Star" (2017)
aus dem Wettbewerb, trotzdem nahm Louane (die bei der Konkurrenz-Sendung "L'école des
stars" entdeckt wurde) fünf Songs in ihr Repertoire auf, die die Aussortierte für sie
geschrieben hatte. Teilnehmerin der gleichen Show war auch Camélia Jordana, allerdings
schon 2009. Jordana scheiterte damals im Halbfinale, bekam aber beim Major Sony einen
Vertrag. An ihrem Debüt-Album arbeitete sie mit Jean Felzine (Mustang, auf Le Pop 8
vorgestellt), BabX (Le Pop 8), "L" (Le Pop 7) und Mathieu Boogaerts (seit Le Pop 1 dabei)
zusammen. Inzwischen ist Jordana in der Musik- und Filmwelt etablierter Star und Celebrity.
Wir lernten sie abseits glamouröser Welten bei einer "sièste acoustique" kennen, einem
speziellen Konzertformat in Paris, bei dem das Publikum tatsächlich Siesta hält. Dort trat sie
mit Le Pop-Künstlern wie Armelle Pioline (Holden), BabX und Siesta-Gastgeber Bastien
Lallemant auf. An diesem Beispiel sieht man einmal mehr, wie durchlässig die französische
Szene geworden ist. Jordana ist heute ihre eigene Songwriterin – bei dem hier vorgestellten
Song, dem wunderbar groovenden "Jusqu'au bout des cils" stammen Musik und Text aus
ihrer Feder.

Der Mainstream zeigt sich immer wieder offen für Impulse von Indie-Acts, Kooperationen
zwischen diesen scheinbar gegensätzlichen Szenen sind inzwischen nahezu
selbstverständlich und verschaffen dem Underground zusätzliche Unabhängigkeit.
Le Pop 10 zeigt die Vielfalt dieser Welt auf authentische Weise und formt daraus eine
kohärente Einheit. Wie immer hat auch diese neue Ausgabe keinen Anspruch auf
Vollständigkeit. Wir lassen bewusst Künstler außen vor, die manche Fachleute hier erwarten
würden, die aber nicht "unsere Tasse Tee" sind. Im Vergleich zu ihren Anfängen ist die
Szene heute dynamischer und diverser. In den 50er und 60er Jahren haben Jazz und Brazil
ihre Einflüsse im Chanson der Gegenwart hinterlassen. Zu Beginn der Le-Pop-Reihe waren
es Indie, Electro und Reggae. Heute sind darüber hinaus die Einflüsse von HipHop und R'n'B
zu spüren. Das neue Chanson ist in Bewegung und wird es sicher auch in Zukunft bleiben

"When the original pandemic lockdown of 2020 ascended upon the world, I found myself like many others a prisoner in my own home. I began thinking about making new music. What do I wanna do I pondered… 'Rides Again' was a personal once in a lifetime album or was it? After some reflection, I realised there was more to this story, this sound. As I eventually crept back to my studio ducking and diving all the way, I started writing and recording new songs for Rides YET Again. The lyrics heavily informed by life during lockdown, my new dog Carla and my recent health problems. I had suffered a stroke which left me with some brain damage and I struggled with Aphasia for well over a year with extremely impaired speech. It was hard … I found solace in song and a musical context to share my ups and downs. It was a beautiful place to retreat to. John Pickup brought his brilliant orchestral treatments. Also Nichol Thomson, Tom Walsh, Mike Davis & Andy Ross blessed me with their sublime horn stylings. Suffice to say I'm really quite fond of this little record. Much love to you wherever you may be."

Following ‘Nel Sud’ (La Tempesta International, 2019) and his mediterranean trilogy ‘Theta’ (Boring Machines, 2013), ‘Δέλτα’ (Delta) (Yerevan Tapes, 2014) and ‘Φ’ (Phi) (Not Not Fun Records / Boring Machines, 2017) the Roma based noise artist recreated his spirits of the past by collaborating with musicians and ethnomusicologists that work on the present, on traditions that are still passed on and morphing continuously, healing our nostalgia for a lost future. ‘Rimorso’ sheds the past heavy use of samples and sound manipulation in lieu of a human element: voices, percussion, lap steel guitar all embedded in a rich cultural heritage.

wieder lieferbar Cluster boten live eine Art Performancekunst, die wesentlich aus Improvisation, Krach, bewusster Vermeidung von rhythmisch-harmonischen Strukturen und dem zügellosen Einsatz elektronischer Klangerzeuger bestand. Dazu kamen Auftrittsdauern von bis zu sechs Stunden, in denen Künstler und Publikum nicht selten in rauschhafte Zustände gerieten. Clusters Musik war anfänglich roh, brutal, spontan und wurde mit einfachstem Equipment - keine Synthesizer, keine Sequencer, keine High-End-Verstärker - erzeugt. Hans-Joachim Roedelius und Dieter Moebius ließen keine mechanischen Prozesse ablaufen. Sie benutzten ihre Maschinen, aber verließen sich nicht auf sie. Vielmehr setzten sie auf Intuition. Das Experiment glückte nicht immer, aber oft. Dann spürte man tatsächlich so etwas wie Magie und hörte das Entstehen einer utopischen Klangwelt. Die zwei von Moebius und Roedelius autorisierten Mitschnitte dieses Albums geben eindrücklich die Atmosphäre und die Magie eines Cluster-Auftritts wieder. Der eine fand 1977 während eines Science-Fiction-Festivals in Metz statt, der andere entstand im Januar 1972 bei einem Auftritt in der Hamburger Fabrik. Die Tonqualität ist mäßig, weil damals das Gelingen der Performance wichtiger war als ihre perfekte Aufzeichnung. Wir heutigen Hörer sollten das akzeptieren.

The title track is masterclass of kaleidoscopic techno; both colourful and jacking, it is testament to the rich array of sounds the artist has been exploring throughout the past year. An inspiring addition to his discography.

‘Dub Embassy’ is a stirring accompaniment, a beautiful tripped out record full of warm cascading dubby rhythms that begs to be played on a festival system.

Completing the trio, ‘Code is the Code’ is a pin-sharp cut that combines powerful rhythms with peak-time melodic flourishes. In both sound and name, it’s a fitting tribute to Drumcode signature sound that’s thrilling and functional in equal measures. The title already says it all: This compilation is an album of instrumentalsonly, something that bandleader Tosho Todorovic has had on his to-do list for quite a long time
The album brings together 15 'songs without words' from the last 30 years of the band, which was founded in the German town of Osnabrück in the mid-1970s. And that also means that these songs, which were recorded either live or in the studio, reflect the history of the Blues Company and is various line- ups, with Tosho Todorovic and second guitarist and singer Mike Titré being the only two constant band members over all these years.

With three exceptions all of the songs were penned by Tosho Todorovic, but of course there is also a version of the Freddie King classic ‘Hideaway’, a long-time staple of the band’s live repertoire.

home studio during the pandemic all of the main tracks (guitar and
vocals) were first laid down at home, then backing vocals, violin, cello,
and drums were added by additional friends and musicians remotely due

San Francisco engineer/ producer Damien Rasmussen pulled all the tracks
together and mixed the record and Nikos Lavdas mastered the record for Tip Top
Recordings. Based in San Francisco Leigh Gregory has opened for the likes of
Supergrass, Luna, trashcan sinatras, The Church, The Clientele, The Morning After
Girls, LILYSand Gorky's Zygotic Mynci as part of Mellow Drunk."Sun Salt & Air" had
its beginnings back in January 2020 when I was working on a handful of new
demos. Suddenly COVID hit and the rest of the year became free to write and
polish up the tunes and finish a fully realized record. It was quite inspiring to have
plenty of free time to develop parts for the songs, plus being at home I could run
into the home studio and spend as much time as I wanted trying out guitar
sounds, vocal melodies, and lyrics as they came to mind. I wanted "Sun Salt & Air"
to be a classic vinyl record with five individual songs per side that fit together
seamlessly and flow from one song to the next. I really like the sequencing on the
record in that it has longer songs with improvised endings, short songs, an
instrumental, and an acoustic song without drums. What I've always loved about
a ten song vinyl record is that it takes you on a little musical journey from side to
side which by the end you're ready to flip over and listen again and again."

Deer Scout’s debut full length Woodpecker is a record about memory and the subconscious. And like an unforgettable dream that keeps you puzzling over its riddles for days, it’s as packed with direct symbols as it is with ruminative haze. “I approach songwriting as a process of boxing things up, or putting away a time capsule,” explains front person Dena Miller, who wrote the album over a period of six years. It’s a culminating collection of the project’s many sounds and influences to date, from Philly’s punk cooperatives to Oberlin’s conservatory experimentalism to New York’s DIY history. At the center is Miller’s assured guitar fingerpicking and boldly clear voice, firmly grounded even as it gently probes uncertain emotional and musical terrain.

Raised by two folk musicians in Yonkers, Miller began recording songs as Deer Scout her freshman year of college in Philadelphia. There, she wrote Woodpecker’s earliest song “Synesthesia” about a train ride home from a basement show: “Night in the city / Big house on the corner / Her voice has the timbre of summers ago,” recalls Miller resonantly. After Miller’s transfer to Oberlin College, Deer Scout began touring DIY venues around the country and sharing stages with favorite artists including Waxahatchee and Told Slant. The twinned intimacy and intricacy of those two influences is reflected in the carefully adventurous arrangements on Woodpecker, which features, among other contributors, bass from close collaborator Ko Takasugi-Czernowin, cello from Zuzia Weyman, drums from Madel Rafter, and guitar from Miller’s father Mark—who also wrote the song “Peace with the Damage” and originally released it with his band Spuyten Duyvil in 2011.

Many of the songs on Woodpecker were written during periods of grief or change. “I used to sing myself to sleep as a baby and I think music still plays the same role in my life—it’s a way of self-soothing or seeking comfort,” explains Miller. “But there’s also part of it that comes from wanting to connect with people." Recorded and mixed primarily by Heather Jones at So Big Auditory in Philly with overdubs by Miller at home, Woodpecker is an exercise in portraying the incommunicable. “Cup”—about a relational psychology test called “a walk in the woods” that turns encounters with symbols into meaning—uses watery arpeggios, wintry strings, and roving bass to create a liminal sonic space, optimistic but tense. “Cowboy,” with airy layers of acoustic guitar riffs and Miller’s charmingly double tracked voice, takes its little fish, big pond inspiration from the character Joe Buck in Midnight Cowboy. And “Afterthought,” with its unexpectedly bright resolutions, is about God, love, and the complexity of empathy; “Heaven isn’t watching us,” sings Miller candidly over pedal steel.

Though Woodpecker is a record about uncertainty and the unknown, it’s also about compassion and connection—as Miller was able to find over the course of writing and recording this next chapter for Deer Scout and first release for Carpark, which she’s excited to at last share with the world.

Die Geschichte beginnt im Januar 2020, als MORBY im Keller seines Elternhauses in Kansas City geistesabwesend in einer Kiste mit alten Familienfotos blättert. Nur Stunden zuvor war sein Vater bei einem Familienessen vor seinen Augen zusammengebrochen und musste ins Krankenhaus gebracht werden. In dieser Nacht spürte MORBY noch immer den Schock und die Angst, die ihm in den Knochen steckten. Also sah er sich die Bilder an, bis ihm eines davon ins Auge sprang: sein Vater als junger Mann, stolz und stark und voller Selbstvertrauen, der mit freiem Oberkörper auf einer Wiese posiert. "In the photo he looks young and full of confidence, puffing his chest out at the camera as if he were looking for a fight," erklärt MORBY. "It was not lost on me that this was the same chest, just hours before, I had seen the ambulance put a stethoscope against as he lay on the kitchen floor of my sisters house." Er zog in das Peabody Hotel und verbrachte seine Tage damit, den Träumern, die er bewunderte, Tribut zu zollen und sich vor ihnen zu verneigen; er ging hinunter zum Ufer des Mississippi, zu der Stelle, an der JEFF BUCKLEY sein Ende fand. Er schlenderte durch das Viertel, in dem JAY REATARD seinen letzten Tag verbrachte, und fuhr dann am Stax-Zelt vorbei, um seine Stimmung kurz aufzuheitern. Dann fuhr er an Graceland vorbei, bevor er den Highway 61 überquerte und die Geister zu sich rufen ließ, um seine eigenen Träume zu gestalten. Abends kehrte er in sein Zimmer zurück und hielt seine Ideen auf einem behelfsmäßigen Aufnahmegerät fest, das nur aus seiner Gitarre und einem Mikrofon bestand. Die schwermütigen Songs, die zu all dem passen, was er gesehen hatte, sprudelten nur so aus ihm heraus. Wiederum leitete Sam Cohen (der "Singing Saw" und "Oh My God" produziert hatte) das Projekt. "This Is A Photograph", MORBYs siebtes Album, ist ein Loblied auf die Americana, das Leben und Tod und Blut auf der Leinwand zum Ausdruck bringt. In dieser Nacht spürte MORBY noch immer den Schock und die Angst, die ihm in den Knochen steckten. Also sah er sich die Bilder an, bis ihm eines davon ins Auge sprang: sein Vater als junger Mann, stolz und stark und voller Selbstvertrauen, der mit freiem Oberkörper auf einer Wiese posiert. "In the photo he looks young and full of confidence, puffing his chest out at the camera as if he were looking for a fight," erklärt MORBY. "It was not lost on me that this was the same chest, just hours before, I had seen the ambulance put a stethoscope against as he lay on the kitchen floor of my sisters house." Er schlenderte durch das Viertel, in dem JAY REATARD seinen letzten Tag verbrachte, und fuhr dann am Stax-Zelt vorbei, um seine Stimmung kurz aufzuheitern. Dann fuhr er an Graceland vorbei, bevor er den Highway 61 überquerte und die Geister zu sich rufen ließ, um seine eigenen Träume zu gestalten. Abends kehrte er in sein Zimmer zurück und hielt seine Ideen auf einem behelfsmäßigen Aufnahmegerät fest, das nur aus seiner Gitarre und einem Mikrofon bestand. Rolf Zuckowski wurde 1947 in Hamburg geboren - am 12. Mai 2022 feiert er seinen 75. Geburtstag. Seine musikalische Laufbahn begann er 1966 mit der Schülerband „the beAthovens“, später wurde er
Co-Produzent und Textdichter des Schweizer Trios „Peter, Sue & Marc“, schrieb Lieder u. a. für Nana Mouskouri, Paola und die Finkwarder Speeldeel. Sein erstes und bis heute noch erfolgreiches Album für Kinder, „Rolfs Vogelhochzeit“, produzierte er 1977. Der große Durchbruch in der Öffentlichkeit vollzog sich aber mit den Liedern „Du da im Radio“ (1981) und dem Auftritt als „Rolf und seine Freunde“ in „Wetten dass...?“ mit dem Titel „…und ganz doll mich“ (1982), das auch Nr. 1 der ZDF-Hitparade war. Diese erfolgreiche Phase repräsentieren die beiden Alben ”Rolfs Radio Lollipop” und ”Lieder, die wir Brücken sind (Neues von Radio Lollipop)”, die zusammen über 1 Mio. Alben verkauften und jetzt zusammen auf
einem Doppelalbum und damit endlich wieder auf Vinyl erhältlich sind. Das Gatefold und die Innenhüllen greifen die Original-Artworks der Ursprungsalben samt aller Liedtexte auf. Trotz der Zeitlosigkeit weiterer hier enthaltener Klassiker wie ”Wie schön, dass du geboren bist” und ”Stups, der kleine Osterhase” bietet diese Doppel-LP eine herrlich nostalgische Reise 40 Jahre zurück, als wichtige Grundsteine für die deutschsprachige Kindermusik und Familienunterhaltung an sich gelegt wurden.

Die aufstrebende Indie-Künstlerin Lisa Wanloo ist in den letzten Jahren durch eine Zeit der Einkehr und der Klarheit gegangen. Furchtlos erforscht sie ihre Gefühle und drückt sie in schnörkelloser Musik auf eine Weise aus, die nur wenige ZuhörerInnen ungerührt zurücklassen wird. Wanloo entwirft in ihren Liedern eine große, dunkle Szenerie, gepaart mit etwas Zerbrechlichem, das auf wunderschöne Weise im Inneren stochert. Beeinflusst von den dunklen Spielarten der Americana- und Singer-Songwriter-Tradition sowie ihrer lebenslangen Liebe zur Grungemusik, schreibt Wanloo ihre Musik aus tiefstem Herzen heraus. Das erinnert von der Herangehensweise wie auch in der Umsetzung an die großen Angel Olsen und Sharon Van Etten. Lisa Wanloo aus Hönö in den Göteborger Schären hat erst spät mit dem Musizieren begonnen. Ihre 2018 veröffentlichte Drei-Track-Single präsentierte ihre ersten je geschriebenen Songs; damals noch in einer eher traditionellen Singer-Songwriter-Form. Anschließend begab sie sich auf die Suche nach ihrem individuellen Ausdruck und nun ist sie bereit, ihr Debütalbum "Shadows" zu veröffentlichen. Das Reeperbahn Festival, auf dem Lisa Wanloo 2021 zu Gast war, schreibt von einer "unwahrscheinlichen Ausdruckskraft" der Sängerin. Auch wenn der Grundtenor stets von einer sinnlichen Dunkelheit geprägt werde, so könne ihre Musik doch Hoffnung in trostlosen Lebensmomenten spenden. It finally took five years and two lineup changes for Handful of Snowdrops to release their debut album, the iconic Land of the Damned. While too many of the songs written during that period never made it to tape, some fortunately did.

This is what we believed is first home recording from the second generation of the band with Jean-Pierre as the lead singer. All tracks were recorded in a single day in a dark and humid basement using a beaten-up TEAC 4-track tape cassette recorder borrowed from a friend. Since the original mix downs are long gone, we had to salvage the music from two old worn out cassette copies.

It would be fair to say that the recordings are very representative of the overwhelming naivety of the early compositions. It’s a unique chance to have another look inside an old photo album you thought you had lost forever.

Among the many fans of the band were acts as diverse as The Damned, Vic Reeves, Joe Elliott of Def Leppard, Spiritualized, Julian Cope, The Adverts, The Skids and Simple Minds. The Sex Pistols supported them, so did The Jam & Joy Division. They were the first to combine the avant-garde approach of The Velvet Underground with a distinctly European aesthetic. The blue hair, exotic stage-names, the lyrical themes of urban decay, political propaganda, mind control and madness were all taken up by the punk bands who followed in their wake. The DOM were trailblazers, pioneers, adventurers…pushing the boundaries of rock music and theatre to see how far it would go before it bust. What happened after them was due, in no small part, to what they achieved in 3 short years. They may not have been Jesus Christ, but they were, arguably, John the Baptist!!! Now, 40 years after they imploded, they are back…with an album seething with lyrical anger and passion. It is the most potent and incisive musical dissection of modern life and contemporary politics released the decade. With tracks titles like “So Many ways To Hurt You”, “Sour Hour”, “Make It Stop!” and the ground-breaking sonic assault of the title track “Dark Times”, Richard “Kid” Strange proves once again that he has his finger firmly on the pulse of our times, just as he had when he founded the band in 1974. Tinnitus Tonight is the latest & sneakiest full-measure serving from LARS FINBERG, world-class bon vivant and prolific Panic Rock artiste. Why so sneaky? Here’s the dirt: Finberg developed a nerve rash leading up his 2017 tootle, the TY SEGALL-assisted Moonlight Over Bakersfield. Rather than blindly leap from the comfy zone, he tip-toed in secret to a friendly but far-flung (cough*Sacramento*cough) studio to capture a reserve of slanted tunes with a proven-effective team of buds. Those comrades – the glorious LAUREN MARIE MIKUS on keys, frequent collaborator & forever-gent KAANAN TUPPER on drums and, at the controls and elsewhere, the indestructible CHRIS WOODHOUSE – all fostered a supportive framework that first allowed Finberg to “think” beyond THE INTELLIGENCE, gearing him up for a life in the spotlight (or moonlight, as it were). So yes indeed: what appears to be an adventurous follow-up also doubles as a prequel. Keep accurate score or you’re dusted. The core of Tinnitus Tonight centers on an assemblage of Finberg’s most golden riffs – trash-coustic but driftwood-smooth, naughty and infinite, all of ‘em bangers and/or buggers. Tunes sprout and move matador-like until an inevitable goring. The past-it grunt that kicks off “Burger Queen” prompts a mimed chef’s kiss. “My Prison” and “The Doors” are quintessential, truly distilled Finberg moments, compounding his trademark acerbic, out-for-blood wit with these absurdly cool, whip-crack guitars. The massively impressive “Public Admirer” is unequivocally the loudest, most damaged blurt from this doggie in at least a decade. In total, Tinnitus Tonight is a wonderful and welcome reminder that our guy is a very real rouser and a vital, unique purveyor of artful aggression, playful and powerful. Finberg beams really fuckin’ brightly under his own name, perhaps more so than with any group orchestration he happens to be braising with. Do these higher personal stakes call for a dastardlier delivery? Maybe this permeating 2020 End Times feeling prohibits the normal corralling of the subconscious mind? Whatever the answers are, you will find them here.

März 2022 über Warner Records / Reprise Records erscheinen und ist das insgesamt 11. Studioalbum des mehrfachen Grammy-Gewinners, vielfachen Juno-Preisträgers und weltweiten Multiplatin-Superstars. BLACK BOMBERS, Birmingham's rock 'n Roll veterans whose primal racket contains elements of both proto and post punk, drop a new 7"on Friday, April 1st - on Easy Action Records. All Fools' Day 2022 seems the perfect time to release a track about false promises and the fantasy of returning to fading Empires. The recording for the single was originally carried out during one of those brief respites from Lockdown in the Summer of 2020 and was then developed in the Soho studio of new Black Bomber guitarist Steve Crittall over the following few months. The 'B' side of the single features Black Bombers' cover of The Damned's 'You Take My Money' - the much maligned second album being something of a band favourite. Bass player Darren Birch played with Damned guitarist Brian James in a short-lived line-up of his James Gang band. This release comes as 'UN-SCENE!', Black Bombers' drummer Dave Twist's compilation album of Birmingham Post Punk, is receiving real acclaim and is already in short supply... The band have dates around the country in the coming weeks and play the DIE DAS DER benefit show for Ukraine on March 27th at the Hare & Hounds, Kings Heath Birmingham.

Brand new studio album by The William Loveday Intention as part of their “career in a year”! “The cover pic is from a visit I made with my son and friends to the artist Giovanni Segantini's hut in the High Alps sometime around 2016. Segantini (1858-1899), was an illiterate and stateless artist famous for his paintings made in the Engadin. The title track is about living your life through someone else's YouTube channel: a blow by blow account of how their life in the frozen north is more, picturesque, sensitive, fun, enlightened and artistic than yours could ever be. 'Stood Upon a Chair' is about the villain Jessie James, but without the romance part that is usually added to such tales. 'You Gotta Move', a Mississippi Fred McDowell cover, is one of the best recordings we've ever made. Here I’m accompanied by my wife Julie and my friend Dave Tattersall who plays electric slide guitar. A true gem which should make someone, somewhere, rich and famous. (Or at least make Mick Jagger blush with shame.) Co-produced by Youth (Killing Joke) and featuring the lead singles 'Amputation' and 'All Things Pass', 'Damage & Joy' also featured guest appearances from Scottish singer-songwriter Isobel Campbell ('The Two of Us', 'Song For A Secret') and American alt-pop star Sky Ferreira ('Black And Blues'). 'Damage And Joy' is now being given a deluxe, expanded vinyl reissue. The double LP is reissued on both black and coloured 180g vinyl with remastered audio by Pete Maher (U2, The Rolling Stones, Jack White, Liam Gallagher), a heavy tip-on-printed gatefold sleeve, printed inner-sleeves and a 16-page booklet, plus bonus tracks and an alternative track-order. Auch das Jubiläumsjahr wird ein lautes: Es wird ein aktuelles Album mit durchweg neuen Songs geben, der MDR dreht eine Doku und wird ein Jubiläumskonzert mitschneiden, eine neue Bandbiografie erscheint und nicht zuletzt werden CITY auf den Brettern stehen, die ihnen ihre Welt bedeuten. Bei aller Euphorie zu den geplanten Geburtstagsaktivitäten gibt es auch einen Wermutstropfen. Sowohl Tour als auch Album heißen „Die letzte Runde“ und sie wird es auch sein: CITY verabschieden sich im Jubiläumsjahr von ihren Fans und Wegbegleitern. Das allerletzte CITY-Konzert (und damit Pflichttermin) findet am 30.12.2022 in der Berliner Mercedes-Benz Arena statt.

Best known for his work with CL Smooth, and his remixes for Public Enemy, House of Pain, Mary J Blige and Mick Jagger to mention a few. Hailing from the little town of Mt. Vernon, NY, right next to the Bronx, Pete Rock & CL Smooth pretty much got together in their local high school when Pete noticed CLs dope and unique voice. After high school, Pete hooked up a weekend hip-hop show on WBLS-FM and was considered one of NYs premier DJs during his four year stint on the show. All Souled Out was Pete & CLs debut EP, it was the phenomenal production by Pete Rock which really drew people to this EP. If the legendary DJ Mark The 45 King was the first producer to incorporate horns, Pete Rock was the first to really perfect this new style of production with his trademark echoing horns laced throughout his music. This was done very nicely on two of the cuts off the EP, Creator and Mecca & The Soul Brother, and people were taking notice in a big way.
After the solid Mecca/Creator 12 inch, the duo unleashed one of those all-time classic LPs every MC dreams of having, Mecca & The Soul Brother featuring the monumental: They Reminisce Over You, Straighten It Out, Ghettos Of The Mind, and Lots Of Lovin. Copeland is a Brooklyn- based experimental musician and a core member of Black Dice. Eric is also one-half Terrestrial Tones duo, finding Animal Collective's Avey Tare on the other end of that project.

Copeland continues on his path of deconstruction forming tracks of scrapped samples, damaged loops, and controlled chaos. On the new album Spiral Stairs, Eric Copeland offers seven avant-pop tracks packed with playful sequences, groovy bass lines, and catchy voiceovers. The compositions are full of multiple layers of sample collages, frequently shifting from one variation to another but far from being messy, rather suggesting the tidy logic of DJ and dancer-friendly songs. Somehow Copeland manages to pull through with his demented pop sensibilities crawling up from the muck and spawling out on the beach to catch a tan. Spiral Stairs is as addictive as it is confusing with its screwed vocal hooks and demented twang heard throughout. A brilliant mix of riotous and cheerful makes it effortless to stick with it and dance to it.

Vier Jahre nach dem Ende seiner Progrock-Band Mess brachte der estnische Musiker Sven Grünberg 1981 das bemerkenswerte Album "Hingus" heraus. Das 23-minütige Titelstück beschwört, mitunter beeinflusst von fernöstlicher Tonalität, mit einer Kirchenorgel, extrem seltenen Synthesizern und außergewöhnlichen Percussion-Effekten faszinierende futuristische Klangwelten. Die beiden anderen, ebenfalls großartigen Tracks erinnern stilistisch eher an die Berliner Schule um Klaus Schulze und Tangerine Dream. Grünberg ist in Estland ein bekannter Bühnen- und Filmmusiker - und ein alter Hase, was elektronische Musik betrifft. 1974, noch während seines Musikstudiums, gründete er zusammen mit Härmo Härm die Progrock-Band Mess. Grünberg war damals der erste Musiker im Baltikum, der einen Synthesizer einsetzte. Mit dem Album "Hingus" (zu Deutsch: "Atem"), das er zwischen 1978 und 1980 einspielte, widmete er sich dem Ambient, versetzt mit einer Prise Space- und Progrock sowie intensiven asiatischen Einflüssen. Basis der Aufnahmen waren die Orgeln der Kirche in Rapla und des Doms von Tallinn. Die sakrale Anmutung wird durch Synthesizer und Percussions gebrochen oder auch ins Rauschhafte gesteigert. Röhrenglocken (die von Mike Oldfield bekannten Tubular Bells), Paarbecken (Piatti), eine Ratsche (Raganella), ein Tamburin, ein ostasiatischer Metallgong namens Tamtam, Glockenspiel und Kastagnetten kommen zum Einsatz. Zudem spielt Grünberg diverse ungewöhnliche elektronische Instrumente, die Härmo Härm und andere teilweise als Einzelstücke selber bauten. Dennoch zählt dieses außerirdisch schöne und zum Teil hochpsychedelische Album hierzulande zu den noch zu entdeckenden Klassikern dieses Genres.

Hello Young Lovers is the 20th studio album by Sparks and was originally released on 6th February 2005. The album was the most commercially popular Sparks album since the 1970s.

Hello Young Lovers has been newly remastered for this LP reissue, which will be released on heavyweight vinyl.

This album will be launched alongside a comprehensive Marketing campaign, including brand new assets, as well as archival material from the time of the original launch. We have access to the Sparks socials, which we will utilise for boosted posts, ads and organic posts. The release will also be launched alongside a PR campaign, which should secure coverage across digital and print media.

By the power of darkness and the might of black-hearted will no two Mayhem albums have been or will be the same. Over the course of Mayhem’s storied and groundbreaking 35-year career—from De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (1994) through Esoteric Warfare (2014)—the Norwegians have continuously challenged the orthodoxy of the genre they helped create. Originally informed by greats Hellhammer, Venom, Bathory, and Sodom, the Norwegians eventually imbued their damnable attack with influences from all over the music extreme spectrum, indicated first on the harsh and angular Wolf’s Lair Abyss (1997) EP and foremost on the enterprisingly brutal and revolutionary Grand Declaration of War (2000). In 2019, Mayhem yet again reinvent on new album, Daemon. “Mayhem will always be Mayhem,” says guitarist/songwriter Teloch (aka Morten Bergeton Iversen) says. “If we put the genre game aside a bit, no one else sounds like Mayhem. Even when De Mysteriis came out, it was not at first considered to be a black metal album, if my memory serves me right. Tricky to label this band, metal would be the most fitting; it’s not pure black metal in my opinion. Not sure it has ever been actually, despite what the general opinion is. People can call it whatever they want. If it’s black metal to them, then fine. We don’t really care. But to me it’s important to keep some sort of black metal vibe at least

Rhoda Dakar is back with her first solo album in seven years with Version Girl, a collection of reggae and ska covers by artists and songwriters she admires. Rhoda Dakar began her musical career as lead vocalist with all female 2Tone band, The Bodysnatchers. They only ever released two singles, 'Let's Do Rocksteady' and 'Easy Life'. After a year together they split and Rhoda went on to guest with The Specials in Europe and the USA, having featured on their second album, 'More Specials', for which she won the first of her seven gold records. After their demise, and before joining Jerry Dammers' new project, she recorded The Bodysnatchers' first original song, 'The Boiler', a harrowing tale of date rape, which was inevitably banned. The Special AKA spent the next two years recording 'In The Studio', spawning a top ten hit with 'Free Nelson Mandela'.

There is a tendency within modern electronica to pigeonhole and categorise, to package music into easily digestible formulae. In direct revolt comes Dutch artist Satori and his new album Dreamin’ Colours, released globally April 22nd, 2022, on renowned imprint Crosstown Rebels. Recorded at the esteemed Sonic Vista Studios in Ibiza, the nine-track LP has been greatly anticipated off the back of its proceeding’s singles: Yellow Blue Bus ft. Laska, Lalai ft. Ariana Vafadari and most recently Gin Song.

An ethereal, swirling body of work, Dreamin’ Colours is rich in texture, colour and imagination. Satori stretches himself out through languorous, mystical explorations of both the digital and the analogue elements of music, the result a beautifully conspired collection of world music, steeped in electronic and Balkan roots, and straddling a multitude of genres from blues and indie electronic to opera, folk and beyond.

Colourful Dream begins proceedings, taking the form of a gently-building opener. From the pluck of a guitar string to hypnotic flute-like elements, we soon arrive at the enchanting world of Lalai ft. Ariana Vafadari. Recorded in a four-hundred-year-old water well, it showcases the transcendent sound with which Satori has become best known, meandering through rustling hats and tribal-like drum patterns whilst the dulcet tones of Ariana shimmer softly throughout.

Tuti ft. Kalima takes on a harder edge, with gritty drum patterns opening into melancholic chords early on. Kalima’s vocals add an emotive touch to the piece, paving the way for Moj Dilbere: a euphoric cut that feels tribal and reflective in one.

We land at a similarly ethereal soundscape on The Gin Song ft. Mybaby, as star-like synths pulse alongside punchy percussion before Yellow Blue Bus ft. Laska takes its place. It begins with real-life ambience, made up of sounds recorded live in Ibiza as a bus passes and birds chirp merrily in the background. This swiftly gives way to a guitar-flecked bassline, opening neatly into the vocal offerings of both Satori and Laska.

Troublemaker ft. El Mundo retains an inherent melodic quality, progressing through poignant strings and whispering kick-hat combos. Powerful and poignant, the mesmeric sounds of Ora Dea and Moshe meander subtly into Lonely Boy (Redux) ft. Hugo Oak. The closing saga brings things to a wonderfully subdued finish, rounding off the album on a wholeheartedly calming note.

Although raised in the Netherlands, where commercial electronic music is of course king, on Dreamin’ Colours it is undeniably Satori’s Balkan heritage that layers his production with dreamy, ethereal, Eastern European influences. The album’s overriding voice lies in his exultant celebration of Eastern European music, weaving vibrant threads of its earthy, melodic, rhythmic sounds into his thick musical tapestry. Written during the pandemic and driven by the ache of separated love, the album is, Satori says, his most personal yet.

From holding down an eighteen-month residency at Heart, Ibiza to having nearly four-hundred-thousand listeners on Spotify each month, Satori is a truly worldwide artist in today’s electronic music scene. Having been championed by Damian Lazarus early on in his career, he has emerged as a must-see live act for fans from all corners of the globe. November 2021 marked the start of his USA tour, where his Maktub concept adorned some of the country’s most iconic clubbing institutions, whilst his discography speaks for itself, with a plethora of acclaimed releases on labels including Crosstown Rebels, Sol Selectas and DGTL Records to name a few. As Dreamin’ Colours introduces him to an ever-growing audience, Satori remains one of the most exhilarating, untamed and truly authentic forces in music.
