Zero Origin, one of Nathanael Heres' monikers, techno music geek, and producer plus headliners behind Urban Sound Of Amsterdam, as well as the owner himself of Upcult Records, a tight but super sharp label from the mid-nineties, born in the backstreets of the Dutch capital. The original record here is "New Life".
Last on the market as Zero Origin, but perhaps the finest on his chest. Three exciting tracks chase each other in a rhythmic crescendo and increasingly hypnotic decorations are ready to set on fire both the main room of bigger clubs and intimate dance floors of a smoky underground party.

Marina Herlop is often described as a pianist, a lingering remnant of her classical training. But what strikes the listener on Herlop’s breakout track miu is the intricate trickery of her voice, tracing rhythmical clusters around the subtlest of musical beds, in a technique inspired by Carnatic music of Southern India.
miu, the opening track of Herlop’s new studio album Pripyat, was among the first songs that the young Catalan artist made on a computer, after two albums – 2016’s Nanook and 2018’s Babasha – that brought spectral elegance to the sound of piano and voice. This spirit of adventure continues into Pripyat, Herlop’s first full album produced on a computer, and her most intensely emotional work to date.
Listening to Pripyat you can feel the emotional toil and creative endeavour that went into the record. Fans of Nanook and Babasha will recognise the combination of melancholic piano and elegant vocal lines that is found on Pripyat tracks like abans abans. But Pripyat has a far fuller, almost chaotic sound when compared to Herlop’s previous work, with the addition of electronic drums, electric bass lines and a wealth of sublime production effects.

Parisian House stalwart Dj Steaw has grown to become a widely respected figure in the field of

AI-36 comes from Ear to Ear - the debut collaboration between label regular Samuel van Dijk (Multicast Dynamics) and Ukrainian artist Yevgen Chebotarenko. Taken from a series of live recording sessions, the album explores in four parts a markedly darker realm of soundscape music. A cornucopia of abstract morphing scenes and heady synesthesia, the album brims with rich sonic detail and evocative gestures. Before the soul and disco hits, Bill Curtis’ Fatback Band were one of the tightest funk groups in the world, and their catalogue threw up several rarities.
‘Dance Girl’ was their final single released in 1974 before they signed to Event/Spring. A New York block party classic that was deleted when the Perception label went bust. It was so popular at the time that it was covered by the Rimshots once it became unobtainable.
‘Keep On Brother Keep On’ was the group’s second single on Bill’s own BC Projects II label. It is a sought-after collectable on its original 1971 press, likely to set you back over £1000 for a copy.

Dave Hamilton’s New Day label is one of the most striking in existence, a powerful concoction of red, yellow and black, that matched its pitifully small run of singles. Two of these were by Billy Garner, a Detroit based vocalist who recorded three songs for Hamilton, all of which are funk classics.
Originally issued in 1971, ‘I Got Some’ is seriously down and dirty and was sampled by DJ Premier / Gang Starr. This reproduction of the original single, sees our first 7-inch issue of ‘Part 2’.

This is a special cassette tape version of the recent album from zake, one of ambient's most prolific artists, alongside From Overseas on his own Past Inside The Present label. As always it is an almost impossibly deep ambient selection that once again finds him exploring fresh and always emotionally moving musical territory. Demain Des L'aube features eight tunes that convey real melancholia and have a gently persuasive sense of movement. Each one is vast in scale and sweeps you up and sinks you into the grainy lo-fi pads, wispy melodies and distant string-based sombreness.

Juic-e, at the time, was an up-and-coming producer, who periodically sent me tracks he’d been working on. Although they somewhat impressed me, they needed a little refinement. After some advice from myself, Juic-e decided he wanted to learn the hands-on approach. I advised him that a sampler would be his best bet. By hook or by crook, he managed to get his hands on one, growing in ability over the months to come. By the time Juic-e had sent me a few different tracks, I felt I couldn’t refuse them any longer, and here they are!

Juan Manuel Cidrón, hailing from Almeria (Andalusia), is a legendary Spanish synthesist who embarked on his musical journey in 1976. A veteran of analog electronic sounds, his early influences come from the Berlin School of the seventies (Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, etc.) and American Minimal music.
Cidrón has independently released 16 albums on his label, Extrarradio, with very limited distribution. ‘Juan Manuel Cidrón has always been immersed in music. As a child, he fell in love with a radio adorned with flashing lights – radio is now one of his professions. He was equally captivated by the music that enveloped him. With whatever little money he had as a child and during his youth, he would spend all his money on records and analog machines. Music is everything to him, and that’s why we understand his compositions as a celebration of life. The vastness that his electronic keyboards offer us is akin to the immensity of the desert, snow, and wind. Albums like ‘Tau’ or ‘Sonido Para Acciones’ belong to the realm of Spanish electronic music and are cherished by enthusiasts of sonic poetry. This vinyl edition holds a special place as it marks a return to analog, a medium Cidrón reveres and continues to embrace. In this way, it becomes a classic, a testament to his unwavering commitment to the quality that arises from the harmonious blend of natural and artificial rhythms. It’s the first release exclusively on vinyl in over a decade (since ‘Patagón’ on Geometrik in 2012), considering that Cidrón has mainly released his recent works on CD.’The tracks S, L, and G evoke the personal perceptions that I could imagine for each of the three elements comprising our planet in all its forms, manifestations, and presences. The track ‘3’ evokes my unique interpretation of how an imaginary being from another world might perceive Earth – its discovery, journey to it, exploration filled with admiration, bewilderment, hope, and respect. An impressive up & coming DJ & producer, Gustavo Fridman has already released on underground labels Sous-Vide, Welter, and Tip Tap. Alongside the spacey originals, Romanian maestros Sublee and Ritmico (Emi & Suciu) offer expanded interpretations.
The title track “Dios Habla Hoy” kicks off the ep with cutting edge minimal percussion work and breezy atmospherics partnered with a celestial yet melancholy melody. The techy breakbeat and meandering effects deliver a nostalgic sound reminiscent of Cadenza classics.
Sublee’s remix of “Dios Habla Hoy” deconstructs and resynthesizes the original into a cosmic journey. While tones and texture remain, Sublee adds a massive groove to drive his trancy reinterpretation. Following the breakdown, synths cascade into eternity to create an emotional, dancefloor-tested moment.
“999” opens the record’s second side with a jazzy afterhours vibe. Mysterious and quirky effects add constant intrigue while the melody drifts about the punchy breakbeat.

After the success of Citta/Notte twelve inch reissue, Taigher reached into his drawer of unreleased songs from the 1980s and found a demo of NUVOLE. After some brainstorming, the Vintage Pleasure Boutique team together with Taigher decided to finish the production that started back in 1986. And here is Taigher’s second single, a soft Italo disco production, including an Italoconnection remix, and additionally a ballad version, referring to the original primary demo.

Marino Scarabelli, the creator of unforgettable progressions in “Are You Loving” and “Love In A Summer Night”, so characteristic and unique that can still give us goosebumps, sat down in the studio again and composed another italo banger. Traditionally, he was joined by Stefano Brignoli, who wrote the lyrics and lent his voice, and that’s how we witnessed the creation of new bomb by Some Bizarre.
But this is not the end of the sensation, because Linda Jo Rizzo joined the band as a guest and you will hear her in female vocal parts, as befits real, indigenous Italo disco. The whole thing was produced by A.P. Mono in collaboration with Marino Scarabelli. For dessert, a very nice remix by Electro Potato.

Under meters of concrete in central Cairo, a relentless buzz rebels and forms a melody. A tired man tunes his machines to catch a snatch of it, and accidentally creates a playground where these abandoned sounds can flourish. They develop a sense of humor and an acid tongue. A few children with bent ears find their way to an alley with an entrance to the playground. They would later describe what they heard as a delicious hybrid: one part cream, one part bubble gum. So, bend your ears and maybe you'll hear it too.

Dana V Andrews is a man who is still very much in love with music of all types. At 23 years old and far from living a perfect life, his love of music led him to go to Los Angeles, California in 1973 with a talented songwriter in search of fame and fortune.
Dana played a role while working on a song and album that was a big hit for the now deceased Mr. Barry White. In 1975 he met David Futch and together they formed a record and publishing company that recorded R&B and Gospel music.
One of the gospel Groups, the Highland Park Community Choir out of Highland Park, Michigan had a song nominated for a Grammy Award in 1976. That same year, Dana V. Andrews recorded two songs titled “Mr. Justice” because he was distressed by the social injustice he saw and still sees in our world. His humble hope was that “Mr. Justice” could be a rallying call for the majority of good people in the world.To unite and vote for responsible, fair, politicians who had helping the people foremost in their hearts. And “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” because he had faith that eventually right will win out over wrong. He still does to this day. He still believes today that when the majority of people stand for righteous justice with genuine love leading the way that governmental bipartisanship will defeat hate, prejudice, and injustice.

The most recent example, CubAfrica, a record born from the reunion of a master from Africa and this very living institution from Cuba, during a show around Albi (in the south of France) where they were both headlining in spring 1996. Manu Dibango's sax melted perfectly with the rural music of Eliadès Ochoa and his Cuarteto Patria, here's the beginning of an idea.

‘Threads’ was my 1st album as Om Unit and this 10-year re-mastered anniversary edition comes around at what feels like a similar time for me of experimentation and finding new ways to connect sounds. Something of a full circle of sorts but then again I am marking time with this re-issue at a time where I can look back and feel very proud of the work still sounding so convincing. Now even better thanks to Subvert Central’s Robert Macchiochi!
Reflecting on the past 10 years since this record came out, I can say it’s been an incredibly fruitful journey, with the most striking element of it all being the opportunity to travel and meet so many people from so many different backgrounds with different world views and stories. I found that ‘Threads’ for many was their first insight into my music, and for some people was something of a milestone in their journey of exploring music itself with tracks like ‘The silence’ and ‘Governor’s Bay’ having been mentioned over the years as amongst favourites alongside some of the work released on Cosmic Bridge and Civil
I want to take a moment to give my Love and gratitude to all the featured vocalists. Thanks to Simon Jinadu for his angelic voice on ‘The Silence’, to Charlie Dark MBE for his reflective words on ‘The Road’ and to Alex ‘Bogues’ Rendall aka MC Jabu (of Jabu) for his intense delivery on ‘Patients’ as well as Jneiro Jarel for his self-reflective narration on “just sayin’” All 4 are still outliers in their own field and upstanding creative forces to boot. I feel blessed to have been able to capture them on this project.
Threads was made in a bedroom of 2a Station Rise in Tulse Hill, a flat I shared with journalist and writer Laurent Fintoni, in a space that had such a great sound to it that I’ll always miss that room. I hope that you feel the warmth that I felt then whilst making it. It’s been an adventure since and whilst I’ve moved on from a lot of the tropes intrinsic to the album, it will always remain a body of work that is dear to my heart.

RR7005 sees the Parisian raggamuffin deejay-cum-crooner Peter Youthman joins the Red Robin flock with a haunting ballad about love gone wrong and the loneliness that results.
With nods to classic, melancholic love songs of the 80s, Peter sings over a deep, dark Naram riddim that carries the DNA of lo-fi roots anthems from the likes of Wackies.
As you'd hope, there's there's accompanying stripped back version from Naram on the flip. Mixed to tape, and fine tuned by Downbeat Mastering, this is a unique piece of music that will please those with a love for the darker side of rub-a-dub.
