Die Musik von Arabrot ist zeitlos. Gerade wenn man glaubt, einen Einfluss oder Bezugspunkt ausgemacht zu haben, entzieht sie sich dem Zugriff, dreht und wendet sich in unerwartete Richtungen und formt einen Sound, der wirklich einzigartig ist. In den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten hat sich Arabrot durch mehrere Iterationen gewandelt; sie haben verschiedene Formen und Größen ausprobiert, verschiedene Stimmungen aufgenommen und die Außengrenzen verschiedener Genres erkundet und klangen dabei nie weniger als ganz sie selbst. 2023 erscheint ihr zehntes Album, Of Darkness and Light - ein Grund zum Feiern. Kjetil Nernes war der Kern und die Konstante von Arabrot, und seit einiger Zeit schlägt neben ihm ein weiteres Herz im perfekten Gleichklang. Karin Park, eine Partnerin im Leben, in der Liebe und in der Musik, trägt seit zehn Jahren in unterschiedlichem Maße zu Arabrot bei, und auf Of Darkness and Light ist ihre Präsenz sowohl gefestigt als auch verstärkt. Die beiden leben zusammen in einer Kirche in dem schwedischen Dorf, in dem Karin aufgewachsen ist, und haben sich ihr eigenes Reich geschaffen, in dem sie ihre Kinder, ihr Handwerk und ihre kreativen Visionen pflegen. Of Darkness and Light brauchte einige Zeit, um Gestalt anzunehmen. Der Lebenslauf von Produzent Alain Johannes liest sich wie ein Who's Who der Rockmusik. Er ist selbst ein versierter Musiker (er spielte mit PJ Harvey, Queens of the Stone Age und Them Crooked Vultures und hatte auch seine eigene Band Eleven) und verfügt über langjährige Erfahrung als Produzent. Es war seine Arbeit an Mark Lanegans Album Straight Songs of Sorrow aus dem Jahr 2020, die Kjetil auf ihn aufmerksam machte, bevor Kismet eingriff und die beiden zusammenbrachte. einem ausverkauften Ziggo Dome aus. Und das alles nach seinen eigenen Bedingungen,
ohne Zugeständnisse zu machen. Doch wer denkt, dass Danny Vera sich jetzt auf seinen
Lorbeeren ausruhen wird, der irrt. Die Musik liegt ihm im Blut, und dieses Blut fließt

Sein neues Album 'DNA' wurde von Vera auf eine andere Weise geschaffen als üblich.
„Normalerweise dauert es zwei bis drei Jahre, um zwanzig Songs zu schreiben, aber
diesmal habe ich sie in zwei Monaten geschrieben“, sagt er. „Alles kam einfach spontan
heraus.“ Die Stimmung auf dem Album unterscheidet sich erheblich von der auf seinem
vorherigen Album. „Ich habe schnell gemerkt, dass in den Songs im Vergleich zu meinem
vorherigen Album 'The New Now' eine andere Atmosphäre herrschte. Es war etwas
authentischer, mehr Rock 'n' Roll und Blues – und so sollten die Songs klingen, so
authentisch wie möglich.“ In einer Zeit, in der ChatGPT Ihnen innerhalb von Sekunden
komplette Texte ausspuckt und alle Unvollkommenheiten im Studio ausgebügelt werden
können, war es für Danny Vera sehr erfrischend, alles auf einmal aufzunehmen. „So hat
man es früher gemacht, und deshalb hat es so gut geklungen, voller Spaß. Die
Unvollkommenheiten sind Teil davon, die Unvollkommenheiten machen es perfekt.“
Letztendlich landeten sechzehn Songs auf dem neuen Album. 'DNA' ist ein Album, auf
dem Danny Vera zu seinen Wurzeln zurückkehrt, mit Songs, die ihre Wurzeln in der
amerikanischen Roots-Musik vergangener Zeiten haben. Ohne Klickspuren, Autotune
oder die Beteiligung eines Autorencamps. Solide Songs, die von klassischen Danny
Vera-Balladen bis hin zu frischem, uptempo Rock 'n' Roll reichen. Eine Platte mit Ecken
und Kanten, aber vor allem mit starker Musik.

Die Sonne braucht die Dunkelheit, um noch heller zu erstrahlen. Aber die Dunkelheit braucht die Sonne ebenfalls, um in vollem Kontrast zu ihrer Helligkeit zu stehen. Doch die Tragik liegt in der Beziehung zwischen den beiden: Die eine kann ohne die andere nicht existieren, aber beide werden sich nie begegnen können. “The Sun And The Darkness” scheint erstmal nur der zweite Release in der Geschichte von SYMBIONTIC zu sein, aber für die Melodic Death Metaller aus Dortmund ist es gleichwohl das Ende einer langen Reise. Owners Club call themselves a "pub rock four piece" - but they are so much more than that. There's a through line in their taut, visceral guitar sound going from British greats like Roxy Music and Marc Bolan, through The Buzzcocks and The Jam before taking a detour off to NYC and nodding towards The Strokes and The Walkmen. The Dorking-based four piece are a blistering live act, with songs that range from singing about the long discontinued Double Diamond beer to vampires, the occult and an England that feels like a distant memory.

This EP will be the band's debut release on vinyl. Recorded at Small Pond Studios in Brighton in April this year, and produced and mixed by Matt Gleeson of WELLY fame, it presents three songs that brilliantly demonstrate what a ferocious, tightly-wound sound this Dorking four-piece can produce.

The lead single will be Double Diamond - a song that came about after a chance purchase of a Double Diamond-branded ashtray from a car boot sale by Dorking train station. The song is a romantic and messy vision of the life the ashtray’s lived, the pub it came from, the punters who left their fag ends in it and the messy nights and bar fights it’s witnessed. With sprawling synths, punchy guitar lines and tongue-in-cheek lyrics, the song is an anti-advertisement for a drink which no longer exists, as well as a look through rose-tinted beer googles at what Britain's night life - for better or (almost certainly) for worse - was once like. As the advert used to state: you know where you are with Double Diamond. It works wonders.

From the grey-skied isles and horse farms of British Columbia comes the second volume of Crystal Dorval aka White Poppy’s “Paradise Gardens” trilogy: Sound Of Blue.

Originally conceived back in 2016, the album was then recorded, finessed, abandoned, resurrected, overdubbed, and finally mixed into nine refinements of daydream shoegaze and therapeutic pop, born from bedroom epiphanies and long winters of the heart.

From slowdive reverie (“Apathy,” “Melancholic Serenity”) and color wheel psychedelia (“Time”) to spiral chorale (“Happy”) and finger-picked drift (“Wiser”), Dorval’s songcraft moves between escape and acceptance, tracing delicate melodies from undercurrents of loss, light, and solitude. It’s music for memory gardens and pastel horizons, dreaming of bliss and distance, but bound to the here and now: “Thinking about leaving here forever / thinking about leaving here for good / but I keep holding on for something / hoping that it could get better than this / what’s one more night?”

Quartabê’s identity was built upon the metaphor of the classroom: the group sees itself as a school class, which chooses its own teachers from among great masters of Brazilian music. Assuming that the learning and creative processes have in common experimentation and play, the quartet is characterized by its bold versions coupled with irreverent performance.


In addition woto its sound, marked by the group’s various music references - from the São Paulo avant-garde movement to the free improvisation, passing through pop and electronic music - Quartabê also stands out for the formation composed mostly of women who, besides instrumentalists are also arrangers, composers, singers and improvisers - which is unusual in Brazil and it has high political relevance in a music scene where positions of creation and power are still held disproportionately by men. The band started its studies by recording a first album about the work of maestro Moacir Santos, “Lição # 1: Moacir” (2015). After performing this show in Brazil and Europe, the group took a break to record ‘Depê’ (2017), also dedicated to the oeuvre of Santos. In 2018 Quartabê released their third album, starting new studies: “Lição # 2: Dorival”, which was released by the Natura Musical / label RISCO
