Die XKatedral Anthology Series III ist die dritte Ausgabe einer Reihe von Archivveröffentlichungen, die Musik von Komponisten zeigen, die sich mit langsam sich entwickelnder harmonischer und klanglicher Musik beschäftigen. "My Falling Sinks" von Kali Malone ist eine sparsame, absteigende Melodie für justierte Orgel, Cello und Akustikgitarre mit Lucy Railton und Stephen OüfMalley. Das Stück ist eine kompositorische Skizze in septimaler reiner Stimmung, die 2021 während eines Aufenthalts in La Becque auf einer experimentellen Stimmorgel in La Temple de La Tour-de-Peilz entstanden ist. ,Empyrean Flare" von Maria W Horn wurde 2022 für ,The Dawn Chorus" der Choreografin Stina Nyberg komponiert. Dieses Stück nutzt die von Arvo Pärt entwickelte Tintinnabuli-Technik, um vier Supersaw-Oszillatoren in langsamen diatonischen Arpeggios zu animieren, die um eine Moll-Tonika-Dreiklang kreisen, und destabilisiert das harmonische Gerüst durch Glissandi und verstärkt die Summe seiner Teile durch analoge Bandsättigung. ,Tessellation" von David Granstrom wurde im Sommer 2017 mit generativen Synthesemethoden komponiert. Das Werk wurde vor einem Jahrzehnt spät in der Nacht aufgenommen und fängt einen flüchtigen, zerbrechlichen und unwiederholbaren Moment ein, der genau so festgehalten wurde, wie er sich ereignet hat. Smoking Mother von Stephen OüfMalley wurde für Gisele Vienneüfs Der Teich / LüfEtang von Robert Walser geschaffen. Es wurde 2018 während eines Aufenthalts im SMEM-Synthesearchiv in Freiburg komponiert und im August 2020 bei EMS produziert. Das Stück greift auf Werke von Zia Mohuiddin Dagar, Krzysztof Penderecki und Popol Vuh zurück und erkundet gleichzeitig die Wurzeln des Minimalismus. ,Att boja sjalarna" von Mats Erlandsson wurde 2018 komponiert und ist Teil von ,On Eternity", einer Sammlung von vier Texten und vier zehnminütigen Kassettenloops, die 2021 von Irrlicht Forlag als limitierte Box-Set-Edition veröffentlicht wurde. Dieses Werk enthält Darbietungen von Gaianeh Pilossian und Sara Fors, jeweils auf der Violine und mit Gesang. This will be my last piece for organ wurde 2025 von Theodor Kentros komponiert und nutzt Gruppen von Cluster-Oszillatoren durch resonante Rückkopplung, um die schwankenden Frequenzen zu synthetisieren, die beim Verstimmen einer Orgel im physischen Raum zu hören sind. "Fault Lines" wurde von Daniel M Karlsson mit generativen Methoden komponiert, wobei ein deterministischer und endlicher Output für diese Veröffentlichung festgelegt wurde. Dieses Stück enthält Gesangsdarbietungen von Sara Fors, Ansis B.ti. und Art.rs C.ukurs.

P.S. Real-world violence is neither glamorous nor welcome - this record stands firmly for peace, joy, and the radical idea that the only explosions worth having happen on dancefloors.

Few producers age into deep house with this level of ease. From Switzerland, Shaka's latest EP feels authentic and lived-in rather than retro while drawing on 90s jazz-inflected house without leaning on pastiche. The opener main vocal mix drifts in on flutes, soft keys and Eve's voice, setting a loose, late-night mood that favours feel over flash. The instrumental flute version pares things back, letting swing and detail breathe. Flip it and 'As If Eternity Belonged To Us', featuring Cate Acupar, locks into a warmer, early-2000s pulse, while 'Life Is Brighter With You' cools the room with sax, piano and patient restraint. Dancefloor-ready but also nice and reflective.

Cirkle makes a striking debut with the EP "Sonic Surge" on Sublunar, curated by Sciahri, delivering a truly memorable release. Hailing from Greece and affiliated with labels such asSk11, Cirkle unveils his interpretation of timeless techno in this EP, characterized by a distinctive and deeply personal sound.

Opening with the sharp and compelling "Sonic Surge," the record quickly captivates listeners before transitioning into "Echoes Of Eternity," a hypnotic journey driven by an unstoppable groove. On the B-side, "Subsonic" commands attention with its irresistible and powerful rhythm, leading up to the EP's epic conclusion, "In The End There Is a Hope." This minimal yet profound track leaves an indelible mark with its unforgettable sonic textures.

Two vocal tracks and two instrumentals. The classic EP structure reflects the class act that is Fred Ventura and Paolo Gozzetti. Italoconnection are back at the Bordello weaving their synthesizer magic. And those analogue lines are what immediately wash over the listener in “Like A Star.” Crisp percussion and sailing melodies break to a glorious hook before Ventura’s unmistakable voice takes hold. Paying homage to Moroder’s “From Here To Eternity”, Italoconnection deliver a vocoder dipped love affair as smouldering vocals pitch ever higher. The instrumental strips back all lyrics, but allows the breathy keys to remain and keep that human touch amidst the addictive chords and rich textures. Bold machine brass introduces “Make It Real.” These blasts form the melodic backbone for this ballad to self-belief where Ventura’s impassioned words are impeccably coupled with Gozzetti’s sparkling synthwork. That synthwork comes to the fore in the finale. With lyrics pared back, the machines sing a different song as that energy packed melody is charged with even more intensity. That man Burnski is back like he is seemingly every single week with yet more on-point new beats. For the record, the gun finger synths and shuffling low-end hustle of his in demand hit 'Go' might be our favourite amongst many.

As rRoxymore, Hermione Frank has been exploring the outer edges of the dance floor and producing music that goes beyond traditional genre boundaries for more than a decade. In that time she has covered plenty of ground from caustic and abrasive techno to long-form and immersive grooves, always with a focus on contrasting tempo, texture and tone. On previous albums she intertwined the electronic and the acoustic with elements of psychedelia and jazz. With Juggling Dualities, Frank takes a sideways look at New Age and Wellness culture.

Writing the album came about after many months of being unable to create during a complicated personal time which left her lacking inspiration, feeling creatively stuck yet emotionally uprooted. What helped was distance - taking time and space to disconnect from the struggle. That brought a different rhythm to life and a fresh perspective that allowed exploration without any expectations. A six-week surge of intense creativity followed in which the majority of the album was written. As she explains, "The record represents a journey of reconnection that conveys an underlying message of hope and healing at its core. I think it is my most honest
work to date."

Initially conceived as a New Age project but with a signature personal twist and some subtle humour, there is a familiarity to Juggling Dualities. It is warm and comforting with a sound palette that is refined but familiar - there are soothing signifiers and organic designs that nod to the motifs of New Age but passed through a more contemporary lens.

Juggling Dualities is an invitation to reconnect with yourself. It's music that encourages you to take a pause, be in the moment and reflect on the fact that no matter what challenges come your way, they shall eventually pass.

Nothing said new or modern or futuristic quite like a synthesiser in the 70s and 80s. If you were shooting an advert and you wanted your product or your company to appear forward-thinking and ahead of the game, then you would want something electronic, something out of the ordinary. When TV producers and advertising directors started searching for music that sounded like “Tubular Bells” – and then Tomita, and later Jean Michel Jarre – music libraries such De Wolfe, Bruton, Parry and Chappell had to have the tracks readily available.

Compiled by Bob Stanley, “Tomorrow’s Fashions” varies from advertising jingles and TV themes to space exploration and gorgeous, beatless ambience. Though it’s 40-to-50 years old there’s a real freshness to this music. Older jazz players Brian Bennett, John Cameron, Alan Hawkshaw and others seized the chance to operate a synth; younger pups including John Saunders and Monica Beale were simply intrigued by the new technology being wheeled into the studios. There’s a tangible sense of adventure.

“Tomorrow’s Fashions’” brand of electronica anticipated new age and ambient music. It also had both a direct and indirect influence on pop – the early Human League and the future sounds of Warp Records are all over this collection. Electronic library tracks have been sampled by everyone from MF Doom to Kendrick Lamar.

One person’s primitive and experimental is another person’s space-age lullaby. This was music made in the shadows – in Soho’s secretive music library studios – that has now become desirable and influential. The chances are chunks of it will be sampled and used on hit records that have yet to be written. If the musicians’ aim was to soundtrack tomorrow’s fashions, they couldn’t have got it more right.

It’s another space, it’s another time…a trip into eternity.

As the tenth candle flickers atop the torta alla panna, Archeo Recordings play the Uno reverse card, breaking with tradition to give us a gift in celebration of its birthday: the first in a series of exquisite EPs on which the label's favourite contemporaries pay homage to past masters. Each re-polished gem is plucked either directly from the beatific back catalogue of the fine Florentine label or is at least Archeo-adjacent, perhaps a sign of future wonders to come. Like a musical version of Janus, who can be found at the heart of Bertoldo di Giovanni's frieze in the Medici villa, Archeo Recordings will continue to look forwards and backwards to provide sublime sounds for us all.
Pepe Maina officially joined the Archeo family in 2019 with the much-needed reissue of his 1979 masterpiece Scerizza (AR015), but his astounding music has been a constant companion to label head Manu for much longer. An inter-dimensional, multi-instrumental maverick, Maina weaves the frayed edges of prog rock, new age, organic jazz and global minimalism into a shimmering tapestry all of his own. The results are spread across fifty years and almost as many albums, largely self-released and always absolutely untarnished by commercial concerns.
Based in a small village in the hills of Brianza, just north of Milan, Maina translates the beauty of his surroundings into transformative tone poems, and the folkloric fusion of "The Infinite", originally released on his 2014 CD Tales From The Hill, is the perfect example of his practice. It opens with a recitation of Giacomo Leopardi's 1825s poem "L'Infinito" by famed Italian actor Vittorio Gassman. A leading figure in the romantic movement, Leopardi explores the idea of time and space within the natural world, and the peace that comes with an appreciation of the immensity of eternity. Manu, longtime digger and now a burgeoning producer, expands upon the original with tribal percussion, chirping electronics and a spheric bassline, folding Maina's elegant strings and gossamer pads into a new arrangement suited for a slow dance under the stars.
Unless you had a well-trained ear tuned to Italy's avant-jazz scene, chances are your first encounter with innovative flautist Roberto Aglieri came via the 2017 Archeo reissue of hisalmost untraceable LP Ragapadani (AR011). It's a true testament to Manu's digging credentials that he snatched this masterpiece out of the esoteric atmosphere and brought it attention it so richly deserved. A delicate union of digital synthesis and versatile flute - be it soft and silvery or
brilliant and clear - the 1987 album was a shapeshifting masterpiece, replaying scenes from Virgil, Verdi, Visconti and Pasolini with a neon glow. Quintessentially Italian, but uncanny and previously unimagined - Penthouse and Portico perhaps. Powered by a percolating prototechno sequence, cascading keys, hallucinogenic vocal snippets and a variety of tonal timbres from Roberto's reed, "Danza N. 1" long deserved the praise reserved for Jean-Luc Ponty's pinnacle, so many thanks to Manu for our collective introduction. The tall task of reinterpreting this particular paragon falls to Perugian polymath Daniele Tomassini AKA Feel Fly, whose peerless skills as both producer and musician have delighted DJs and dancers alike. Hot on the heels of his diverse and definitive remixes of Tony Esposito for AR027, Daniele delivers a radical rework of "Danza N. 1" perfect for both day rave sunshine and full moon party alike. Enhanced by snapping breaks and a rattling kick, the bassline gurgle emerges as a progressive powerhouse, laying the foundation for the trilling flute and circular keys to cast a psychedelic spell. As the slow-Goa revival picks up pace, this one is way ahead of the pack.
Archeo take us all the way back to the start of its story here - well almost. Though it bore the stamp AR001 (2015), this Radio Band reissue actually hit shelves months after Tony Esposito's "Je-Na' / Pagaia"; a false start perhaps but a true classic all the same. Radio Band were a group of DJs from Florence who all sailed the airways of Radio Fantasy in 1984 and whose one and only release was this super groovy slice of Italo-boogie. Following the example of Milanese DJs Band of Jocks but far surpassing their formulaic funk fizzle, Radio Band employed an intergalactic bassline, cosmic keys and that undeniably Italian style of rapping to deliver a sophisticated party-starter which even found its way to disco deity Ron Hardy. Back to the here and now, and if you've found yourself pumping an ecstatic fist to a supercharged Italian epic of late, chances are its from the mind of the mysterious Radiomarc. Operating on the ascendent Popcorn Groove imprint, this shadowy figure steers his country's lost classics into peaktime territories, finding a sweet spot between late Italo-disco, early Italo-house and contemporary cool. Pushing the tempo with a club-ready 4/4, setting the sequencer to stun and supplementing the original melodies with a series of synth riffs, the mystery producer send this one into orbit. Radio Band - Radio Rap - Radiomarc, the circle is complete.
Few have done more to develop cross-cultural musical exchange than Futuro Antico. A collaborative venture from musician, archeologist and ethnomusicologist Walter Maioli, keyboardist and tonal theoretician Riccardo Sinigaglia and multi-disciplinary artist and composer Gabin Dabiré, Futuro Antico formed in Milan in 1979, combining ancient international folkloric traditions with otherworldly electronics. The result is an arresting melange of Mediterranean, African and Asian instrumentation, mimicked by esoteric synth tones and hypnotic minimalism, which the group perfected on their acclaimed 1990 LP Dai Primitivi All'Elettronica. The meditative and transportive "Pan Tuning" belongs to their largely overlooked 2005 CD only release Intonazioni Archetipe, and has been amongst Manu's most loved tracks from the first moment he heard it. Who else is better placed to reshape this evocative opus into an immersive, transcendental dance floor journey than label favourites Mushrooms Project? The duo sows the original elements into a sprawling fifteen minute fusion of séance and science, at times propulsive with a ritualist rhythm of tuned percussion and crunching drum machine at others drifting off into ethereal ambience. Mushrooms Project continue to push the boundaries of the Afro-cosmic style, and this remix marks a new zenith.

Frankey & Sandrino make their HABITAT debut with *The Moment,* a thrilling three-track EP that reimagines early trance and house through a contemporary lens. The title track "The Moment" features a haunting female vocal line, "The moment is eternity and now is just a dream," set against lush, layered synths that evoke the euphoria of rave's golden era. Balancing out the EP are “Intrinsic”, with its hypnotic grooves and futuristic vocals, and “Motivation,” with its powerful, driving synths that are sure to take over any dance floor.

Here, the celebrated German duo has crafted a package that balances underground credibility with mainstream appeal, offering a masterclass in immersive electronic music. With a rich legacy releasing on labels like Innervisions, Diynamic and their own label Sum Over Histories, Frankey & Sandrino make for a welcome addition to HABITAT, pushing new boundaries, and solidifying their impact on the global electronic music scene with this mesmerizing new release.

Donald’s house and DJ Chrysalis give the UK’s Not An Animal Records the intercontinental treatment with a four track transpacific delivery of psyche-laden progressive house music melded with the sleazy stylistics we have come to expect and love from NAA releases, the outcome is a cohesive late-night package who’s sound is exceptionally current whilst somehow remaining thoughtfully reminiscent.

Title track Pound Bend leads in with a breakbeat whilst the scene is set by layers of proggy synth patterns before descending into a powerfully dark, driving bassline.

Apiento’s remix of the title track takes a more introspective approach, stripping the package back to a reprogrammed bass groove, infectiously enlivened by an earworm synth loop that is likely to stay with you for eternity.

A Curious Warmth delivers a bassline that ploughs through a soundscape of delicately programmed drum patterns layered with pads and new-age trance synths. A scattering of housey breaks and pads reinvigorate the track in the latter half.

Tingler Ring brings things down to a slower burn as the bassline is left to drive the track, accented by a haunting of delay laden stabs whilst acid synths sit at the forefront to take the EP to its close.

Swedens #1 techno legend The Source Experience aka Robert Leiner delivers this disturbingly fat acid techno 12'' on Borft that gets into your ears and brain like a locomotive straight from the rave days. On the A-side a crushing stripped down funky repetitive acid stonker that will spank old and young ravers like they were one big ass. B1 continues in a similar fashion but with a almost electro-ish backbeat instead of straight 4/4 and strong hints of classic EBM in the bassline and percussions. The hairs on my arms were standing up at this point. B2 is a weird surprise ending with a downtempo, strangely harmonic, melodic and almost romantic track which somehow reminds me of the Frak classic ''Uttoz gives a song''. If you are into Acid in any form this 12'' is a no brainer, a must have, a future classic. AI-36 comes from Ear to Ear - the debut collaboration between label regular Samuel van Dijk (Multicast Dynamics) and Ukrainian artist Yevgen Chebotarenko. Taken from a series of live recording sessions, the album explores in four parts a markedly darker realm of soundscape music. A cornucopia of abstract morphing scenes and heady synesthesia, the album brims with rich sonic detail and evocative gestures. Deftly blending organic sound textures with an experimental austerity, ‘Live Recordings’ displays potent and accomplished storytelling.

The album opens to a grey overcast vista, a natural landscape that slowly melts into a descending chasmic dysphoria. The mood transitions to a drone-based piece on the B-side, characterised by a more psychologically suspenseful framework and exotic blend of sound design. The atmosphere lightens, yet equally pensive as side C takes on a more elemental form, invoking water and its array of microbial and metabolic ecosystems. Brief cathartic moments in the final section pave the way for deeper wayfaring on the D-side. Stray signals and unknowable artefacts skitter across a vast subaqueous domain, a fathomless womb of potentialities that ebbs into eternity.

Fortunea Records finishes off 2023 with another vivid release by Peletronic. The Hazy Jane EP features 3 new original deep house and electro tracks by the winsome Austrian. The record begins with ‚The Highest Chance‘.

A dazzling composition featuring vocals by M-Jane. Cold engaging pads and simple rhythmic structures are the main elements in this track. In combination with this prose, that can be construed and contextualise for eternity, it absolutely stands out from the mass of modern-day deep house productions. The A-side continues with the title-track. It is a groove-laden, old school house tune that will toss up the audience into new heights with its soulful rhodes, supple bassline and the comprehensive brisk arrangement.

A great tool that definitely will find its way in the recordbags and USBsticks of a house dj. On the B-side Peletronic greets you in his ‚Utopia‘ where impactful electro beats shape the landscape of a prospective scenario. And last but not least a remix of the first track is also included. Slovakian dj and producer Paradiso Rhythm retells M-Jane’s story in a 90s warehouse décor. All in all a warm, deep and beautiful journey to the brim.

Luckily, I had already been through a lot when I got this ‘knock in the head’. Sex, drugs, lots
of rock and roll and a sunny childhood with beautiful views I look back on with nostalgia.
Later on I lost my focus and I only thought about one thing: how to get out of it (that damn
problem, my shifted reality, my blind spot, that piece of poisoned apple of forbidden
knowledge choking my throat)!

But I can't think my way out of it, psychiatrists are just ordinary people, and very heavy pills
suppress everything (I'll just take my pills) FLASH!

You ask me what it takes to create music or art that is meaningful and tells a story. It’s hard
when you haven't had enough setbacks, nothing more than maybe a little blues. I'm not

Kiva, the first and only album from Royce Doherty and Paul Mac’s duo project of the same name, is a sparkling gem hiding in plain sight within the Australian musical canon. Originally released in 1997 by id/Mercury, Kiva offers up a collection of timeless queer pop songs draped in dreamy ambient, downbeat and dub sensibilities. The music is the product of a serendipitous meeting of minds between two young music obsessives who crossed paths in Melbourne in mid ‘90s. It’s also a perfect evocation of the futuristic techno-utopian impulses that supercharged the global electronica counterculture during the race towards the 21st century. “I never had these big diva plans or anything like that,” Royce reflects. “It just sort of evolved that way.”

Nearly three decades after the fact, Royce and Paul remember Kiva as a golden moment of creative synergy. “When I listen back to this album now, it’s got such a vibe and feel that’s really its own,” Paul enthused. “There's so much of our version of dub on this record. It’s beautiful hearing Royce's core song ideas stretched out to eight minutes of trippy, acid kind of moments set over slow breakbeats and stuff. It felt so fresh being able to have this elastic sound, pull songs apart and stretch them into space.”

Originally released in 1997, this CD has been gracing select chill-out rooms, and queer afters-sessions ever since. With a loving remaster by Mikey Young, this infrequent discogs pop-up is now yours to own on vinyl for eternity (born). This is a Vinyl Only Release
