It’s been a mere two months since Gaz released his first EP after coming back from a debilitating addiction to Greggs sausage rolls. Despite this long road of recovery, he has kept himself out of trouble and returned to furnish us with four more slabs of Steak Baked Garage Bakes!
Gary Loves Garage is a track of such pure Garage that if you knew how to take a m7/9 chord and pitch it about a bit you would be in the same ballpark. A lot of the Deep Garage Dads from his area Whatsapp Gary and on occasion, sit outside his house desperate for the library of m7/9 pad samples which Gaz has lovingly built up over many years on multiple Zip Disks. Of course, Gary would never share these m7/9’s as they form the backbone of his productions and if they got into the wrong hands there would be implications.

Gary gets a rare trip to NYC on Gary Visits NYC (BA Premium Economy). As the name suggests, Gaz splashed out on a British Airways Premium Economy ticket from Heathrow Terminal 5C but unfortunately Gaz got hammered in the Wetherspoons and didn’t realise that a 5C departure meant you had to get on the underground rail connection. He missed his flight.

Gary’s SP1200 - still a bone of contention for Gary with the lack of funds in his current life meaning an SP1200 is way out of reach. He has multiple ex-wives and various children which prove a drain on the monthly finances.

Finally -Gary’s Pad Patterns could be a paean to the aforementioned Zip disc, one of Gaz’s favourites! Zip disc 4 of 8. This has his best m7/9 chord samples on it and actually has not left the Zip reader since 1999 - apart from that one time when Gaz had to change the SCSI cable.

The rest, as they say, is history and fans of US alternative music from the 1980s onwards know about his work and the people he went on to inspire. This, however, is not a biography; it’s a simple piece of communication to let people know that from Friday 4th July the second pressing of Daniel’s radio sessions recorded for the BBC will released on translucent A project inspired by BBC Radio 6 Music’s Marc Riley, the tracks have been licensed from the BBC and approved by Daniel’s family, management and charity. The sessions were spread across an eight-year period with two sessions for Rob Da Bank and three with Marc Riley (both of whom are executive producers of this album). A few bootleg recordings of these sessions have been available across the years but now they have been lovingly mastered and cut by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios in London. Daniel was a lifelong fan of The Beatles and the overwhelming consensus from those who knew him was that he would be so proud and excited to have his music mastered above the legendary Studio 2 at Abbey Road. This project’s objective is to celebrate Daniel’s musical legacy, rather than explore further his well-documented mental health problems.

While not a concept album, death looms large as the central theme, weaving through the lyrics with raw emotion and unsettling storytelling. From existential dread to violent ends, each track explores different facets of mortality, drawing the listener into a visceral journey through the inevitable. Ende der Achtziger hatte sich Thrash Metal auch in Deutschland etabliert und spielte weltweit sogar eine führende Rolle. Bereits zu dieser Zeit war es einigen Bands nicht mehr genug, einfach nur schnell und aggressiv zu spielen. Der Thrash Metal wurde in vielen Fällen anspruchsvoller und technischer. In den USA trieben das Watchtower auf die Spitze, in Deutschland folgten gleich mehrere Bands auf dem Aaarrg-Records Label (Mekong Delta, Target).
Während andere Acts erst noch straight agierten und dann im Verlauf ihrer Karriere mit progressiven Elementen liebäugelten (Holy Moses, Deathrow, Destruction), schnürten die Hamburger MEGACE schon nach der Bandgründung 1988 ein anspruchsvolles Thrashpaket. Mit der Sängerin Melanie Bock hatte man zudem ein besonderes As im Ärmel, denn sie kann Beides: Das kehlige Thrash-Shouting und melodischen Gesang. Das hob MEGACE direkt von anderen Bands ab, was ihnen direkt eine Chancen bot, die auch genutzt wurden.

Nach einigen Demotapes, die auch von der internationalen Presse gelobt wurden, erhielten sie einen Plattenvertrag bei 1MF Records, das Label des ehemaligen Sänger von Angel Dust und Scanner, S.L. Coe. Im Juli 1991 wurde dann in den Dust Music Studios (Dark Millenium, Torchure, Morbid Jester, Sacrosanct) das Debütalbum „Human Errors“ aufgenommen, welches in der Presse durchweg gelobt wurde und auch heute noch Fans auf der ganzen Welt hat. 2025: Golden Core veröffentlicht die erste (offizielle) Neuauflage dieses Genreklassikers. Die CD-Version enthält die bisher unveröffentlichten Aaarrg Records Demos, die im Studio von Ralph Hubert (Mekong Delta) 1989 aufgenommen wurden. Die CD enthält ein 16seitiges Booklet, die LP einen bedruckten Einleger. Separate Master für LP und CD!

Drei essenzielle Metalalben aus drei Ländern! In dieser Vinyl-Box findet man remasterte und wertige Neuauflagen von Alben, für die man im Original heute ein kleines Vermögen bezahlen muss. TARAMIS aus Australien spielen epischen Heavy Metal, der sowohl Fans von Manilla Road und Cirith Ungol, aber auch Liebhaber der frühen Iron Maiden gefällt. Die LP wurde 1987/1988 von Metal Blade (USA) und Roadrunner (Europa) lizensiert. QUARTZ sind aktuell immer noch die dienstälteste aktive Heavy Metal Band (zwischen 75 und 80 Jahre alt) und spielten erst kürzlich bei Festivals wie Up The Hammers (Griechenland) und Coursts Of Chaos (Frankreich). Sie gelten zudem als Miterfinder der NWOBHM. Auf “Satan´s Serenade” wurden zwei rare EPs (“Satan´s Serenade” und “Nantucket Sleighride”) erstmals zusammengefasst. Album Nummer drei ist von der belgischen Band SCAVENGER, die in verändertem Line Up auch heute wieder aktiv sind. Ihr traditioneller Heavy Metal begeisterte bereits 1985, als “Battlefields” auf Mausoleum Records erschien.

Nachdem die Karriere des Tenorsaxofonisten Mitte der 1950er Jahre einen Einbruch erlebt hatte, feierte
er Anfang der 1960er Jahre mit seinen Aufnahmen für Blue Note ein rauschendes Comeback. Das Album
”Landslide” stellte der Produzent Michael Cuscuna 1980 aus unveröffentlichten Aufnahmen zusammen,
die bei drei Sessions mit unterschiedlich besetzten Bands in den Jahren 1961-62 entstanden waren. Das
Titelstück ”Landslide” etwa war ein bis dahin unveröffentlichtes ”Überbleibsel” von Gordons gefeiertem
zweitem Blue-Note-Album ”Dexter Calling”.

Italian DJ Plant Texture drops ambitious techno odyssey 'Mondo Nuovo' on Mutual

Bari-based underground mainstay Dona Basile, aka DJ Plant Texture, has been crafting forward-thinking techno for a decade, releasing on leading labels from Ilian Tape to Tresor Berlin. Adding to his rich catalogue, his label debut on SHDW's Mutual Rytm sub-label X is a homage to the spirit of space travel. With the label boss already a long-time fan and having dropped tracks from this EP in his sets for a while, the partnership creates an ideal match for an artist and label looking to push the boundaries of the genre. With Basile's distinctive style perfectly fitting with the label's vision, each of the productions provides a tribute to space exploration - fusing analogue hardware and deep rhythmic invention while channelling everything from early sci-fi cinema to the 80s ambient soundtracks. "Space exploration is the ultimate metaphor for creative freedom. This album is my way of sonically mapping the cosmos, not through melody but through mood, modulation and motion", notes Basile.

Opener 'Wormhole' is a raw, driving sound with synth pulses and jacked-up drums for peak time chaos, while 'Echoes' evokes ramps it up further with panel-beating percussive loops, earth-shattering bass and twisted stabs. The title track pairs more physical and booming drums with introspective synth craft that encourages deep thought. 'Flex The Beat' is the first of two digital only cuts and offers a chaotic collision of overdrive percussion, manic vocal loops and reversed stabs for utter dance floor carnage, before 'Let It Go' (Jungle Mix) provides a dark exploration of
frenzied jungle breakbeats with drilling bass to close the offering.

Movie Rock - ein neues Genre wird definiert. Den beiden Komponisten Sven Bergmann & Oliver Bartkowski ist eine wunderbare Symbiose aus Rock und Pop gelungen, die mit klassischen und sogar jazzigen Elementen, sowie Ausflügen ins Reich des Musicals neue Maßstäbe setzen kann. Der Fan von Film-Scores wird gleichermaßen bedient wie der Rockfan, bei dem es auch gerne einmal krachen darf. Bergmann und Bartkowski konnten bereits mit "The Movie Trip Show" ihr Publikum begeistern. Sie komponierten die Musik für den international prämierten Euro-Western "Durch seine Venen fließt Blei - Bullet Vain" und präsentieren nun mit HEAVEN"S SAPPHIRE "Welcome To Wonderworld" ihr erstes Movie-Rock-Album.

Since first forming in 2016, London's High Vis have steadily polished their palette of progressive hardcore with shades of post-punk, Brit pop, neo-psychedelia, and even Madchester groove, mapping a middle ground between hooks and fury, melodies and mosh pits. Singer Graham Sayle describes their third album 'Guided Tour' as an axis of competing forces: "It's trying to be a hopeful record, while also being incensed." Rounded out by drummer Edward 'Ski' Harper, guitarists Martin MacNamara and Rob Hammaren, and bassist Jack Muncaster, the band's deep roots in the UK and Irish DIY hardcore scenes have kept them grounded but growing, inspired equally by restlessness and righteous anger. As Sayle puts it, "Everyone's scratching, everyone's working all the time, and their idea of relaxing is just getting fucked and avoiding reality. This album is an escape from that."From its opening seconds of a cab door slamming, a car revving away, and a baggy rhythm swinging to life, 'Guided Tour' sounds like a band reaching for new heights, bristling with energy. Recorded across a few weeks at Holy Mountain Studios in London with producer Jonah Falco and engineer Stanley Gravett, the results feel dynamic and dialed-in, like anthems burned into sense memory through sweat and repetition. Harper cuts to the chase: "We had a clear idea going in, every moment got used. Maybe when we're 60 we can sit around and get a drum sound right, but for now it's about getting things done."The album's 11 songs span the spectrum of contemporary guitar music, sharpened by experience, camaraderie, and societal frustrations. From swaggering street punk ("Drop Me Out," "Mob DLA") to jangling indie sneer ("Worth The Wait," "Deserve It") to heavy alt ("Feeling Bless," "Fill The Gap") to shoegazey spoken word ("Untethered"), the group's chemistry transmutes any style to their unique intensity. Sayle champions this evolving fusion: "For years coming from hardcore, we had pretty clear boundaries - other scenes were separate worlds. Now things are getting more blended, drawing from different places."Nowhere is this sentiment flexed more boldly than on "Mind's A Lie," a dance- punk anthem inspired by Harper's love of house, garage, and pirate radio. Stabs of sampled female vocals (by celebrated South London singer and DJ Ell Murphy) build into a razor wire rhythm of low-slung bass, tense drums, and sparkling guitar before Sayle's staunch voice starts barking harsh truths ("Face to face with all I've known / I can't call these thoughts my own"). After a sudden breakdown, the track regroups and takes off, cruising into the horizon in a haze of chiming guitars and Murphy's ascendant voice, from the streets to somewhere beyond.

Bittersweet - Das neue Album von Formosa ist wie ein Neubeginn für die Band. Nach der Coronapause geben die Jungs Vollgas und liefern zehn starke Nummern! Die Musik von Formosa hat sich weiterentwickelt, teilweise wurden die Songs härter und schneller, insgesamt ist dennoch jeder einzelne melodiös und eingängig. Die Produktion wie auch das Songwriting sind auf einem Höchstniveau so, dass Formosa ihr beste Scheibe präsentieren. "Mit dem neuen Album sind wir sehr zufrieden, wir haben extrem viel Schweißblut die letzten Monate zwischen den ganzen Touren hineingesteckt und das Ergebnis kann sich sowas von sehen bzw. hören lassen" Nik Beer, Gitarrist. "Wir haben es geschafft uns treuzubleiben und trotzdem nicht auf der Stelle zu treten. Wir sind mächtig stolz auf die Scheibe und jetzt sind wir gespannt was der Rest der Welt denkt" Paris Jay, Drummer.

Für damalige Verhältnisse derbster, schneller, krachiger Hardcore-Deutschpunk diese Band ist ganz oben in europäischen Thrash-King-Historie. Die Gitarren dominieren, während das Schlagzeug und der Leadgesang darum kämpfen müssen, gehört zu werden. Unglaublich kraftvolle Musik, die ihre früheren Werke in den Schatten stellt. Von Anfang an rasen OHL auf dem Highway der antikommerziellen Musik. "1. Oktober" ist zugleich Auftakt und erster Höhepunkt. Wer einmal die hysterischen "Deutschland, Deutschland"-Rufe des Deutscher W. gehört hat, wird sie nicht mehr vergessen. Viele Songs folgen dem manischen Rausch des Eröffnungstitels. "Freut Euch", "Glocken der Revolution" oder "Neue Macht" gehören zu diesen Liedern und sie zelebrieren eine energiegeladene Orgie aus kompromissloser Geschwindigkeit und grimmig entschlossener Kampfeslust. Split between longer immersive compositions and shorter glimpse-like sketches, these 12 tracks feature new juxtapositions of Pekler's familiar palette of synthetic field recordings, warm, undulating electronic textures, shifting percussion patterns and serene melodies.

As with much of his recent work, Pekler's compositions here are structured around the beguiling effect of synthetic and non-synthetic sounds mirroring, mimicking and modulating one another. The teeming atmospheres within tracks such as Globestructures, Cymbals In The Mist or Globestructures: Option II are, despite their seemingly anthropogenic nature, entirely synthetic. Elsewhere, the lopsided grooves of Cumbia Para Los Grillos or Fabulation For K are derived from recordings of crickets and other insects which Pekler loops and uses to trigger electronic percussion – producing a pleasantly skewed rhythmic base for the fragments of melody which are layered on top. The six Rhythm Studies also follow the same principle – a playful interweaving of the organic and synthetic.

New Environments & Rhythm Studies is a further attempt to re-describe past tropes which laid claims to authentically represent music and sound from beyond the Western world (exotica, ethnomusicology, field recording) as undertakings of the imaginary.

Geburtstag des Komponisten Henry Mancini. Aufgenommen in Stockholm im Winter 2024, wurde das Album in Paris von Alex Gopher (Air, Phoenix, Bob Sinclar...) gemastert.
