Mit der ersten Single „vampire“ läutete die dreifache GRAMMY Gewinnerin Olivia Rodrigo das zweite Kapitel ihrer Karriere ein – und nimmt ab sofort Kurs aufs zweite Album: GUTS erscheint am 08. September!

Emotional noch intensiver und extrem abwechslungsreich arrangiert, setzt die 20-Jährige für „vampire“ auf eine ähnliche Dynamik wie bei ihrer Single „drivers license“, mit der sie 2021 den internationalen Durchbruch schaffte. Kein Wunder also, dass „vampire“ sofort als „Monster Power Ballad“ (Pitchfork) gefeiert wurde. Zeitgleich kündigte Olivia Rodrigo mit GUTS ihr zweites Album an. Zum Teil auch in den New Yorker Electric Lady Studios geschrieben, entstand das neue Album größtenteils mit Dan Nigro in dessen Garagenstudio in Los Angeles, mit dem die 20-Jährige bereits für ihr Debütalbum SOUR zusammengearbeitet hatte. Während Olivia in den vergangenen 24 Monaten selbst „gefühlt 10 Jahre“ reifer geworden sei, klingt auch ihr Songwriting sehr viel ausgereifter und selbstbewusster als zuvor: „Dieses Mal ging’s viel mehr ums eigentliche Songwriting – was manchmal auch bedeutete, dass ich mich selbst gar nicht so ernst nehmen durfte. Wir haben wahnsinnig viel ausprobiert und sind schließlich bei einem Sound gelandet, der viel mehr Rockeinflüsse hat als meine älteren Sachen“, so Rodrigo. ”GUTS” erscheint auf CD und Vinyl in diversen Formaten.

Eddie Money’s self-titled debut album, released in 1977, was an immediate commercial success and an amazing start to the singer’s career. The album’s singles “Baby Hold On” and “Two Tickets To Paradise” both reached the top of the Billboard charts. It was produced by Bruce Botnick, who is best known for his work on the legendary album L.A. Woman by The Doors.

Ultimately, the album sold 2 million copies in the US alone, and Eddie Money became an established figure in the rock music scene of the late 1970s and 1980s.

Richmond's INTER ARMA, reigning masters of the slow build, continue to trace a distinctly ambitious trajectory through modern metal. Their impulses tend toward the epic, but never bloat; they meld several styles — doom, sludge, and hard psych — without coming off like dilettantes. This newest full-length, Sulphur English, finds them mining deeper in the proggy organic doom fields that made both Paradise Gallows and Sky Burial so thrilling while expanding further the on the psych-folk strain that made those albums' peaks seem so lofty. Few metal bands have ever made such effective use of acoustic instruments in truly heavy environments as INTER ARMA do; the acoustic guitar that stitches "Stillness" together is as effective as any overdriven bass; a two-minute gloomy piano-and-feedback piece titled "Observances of the Path" rolls out the carpet for "The Atavist's Meridian," an album highlight that rides a gigantic, roomy drum sound into realms akin to a murkier Paradise Lost, a more aggressive Om, and a dreamier, more stoned Kylesa all playing together at once. Portland-based Kevin Palmer returns to blundar with his Best Available Technology for another release (having previously been featured on cassette). This time it’s on vinyl but still messing about with the same business of constructing and deconstructing head-nodding beats into a foggy bowl of ambience that has become the trademark sound of BAT.

Initially inspired and influenced by the sound-worlds created by Hank Shocklee, BDP and KDAY, Palmer spent his formative years combing pawn shops for samplers. This kicked off his self-described obsessive compulsive work crunching out impossibly naive and obviously unschooled jams in what might have been and continues to be an attempt to capture and document something he felt when listening to the bombastic sonic collages of early hip hop.

Going backwards in order to go forward could be an apt mantra to describe the philosophy behind BAT. Often attached with labels like nostalgia and melancholy, Palmer surely deals with the longing for that perfect time capsule of N.Y. hip hop in the 90s - but where others zoning in on that era simply imitate it, Palmer goes way further into a world of his own making.

Far removed in both time and place to the outskirts of Portland, the sonics of Palmer filters through an outsider’s perspective, sometimes offering a personal journal of the here and now via field recordings from skateparks and surfing trips.

As if one would imagine looking slightly to the left of what was supposedly going on, these tracks continuously shift one's focus. That funky feel good beat is there, but almost always just out of grasp. Palmer gives us the sound of a memory slipping away.

Yet this reads not as the end of something, but rather a stepping stone into a world of possibilities. Operating at the outskirts of genre, you could imagine anything from dub, hip hop, ambient or techno to emerge and crystalize from the haze, yet it never does. This is all those things and nothing. Or maybe it’s just some “sad fucked up funk” as Palmer puts it.

Simple ausgedrückt: Sie sind witzig aber auch in der Lage sehr verletzlich zu sein. Giant Vagina und Pussy Weed Beer, zwei Highlights ihres 2013er Debüts No Regerts, wurden prompt gefolgt von dem großartigen aber leicht zu übersehenden Happiness. Bei dem 2015er Time to Go Home habe ich ständig meine jüngere, unstetere Version vor Augen gehabt. Der kommende Juni markiert die Veröffentlichung von I Used to Spend So Much Time Alone, ihr drittes und bisher bestes Album. Mit dem Produzenten Matthew Simms (Wire) live im Juli 2016 in Portland / Oregon (Geburtsstätte einiger ihrer favorisierten Elliot Smith Alben) aufgenommen, ist es ein dunkles und ungewöhnlich schönes Set aus Moody Post Punk, dass die Gefühlsbreite der Band aus Seattle in vollem Ausmaß und nicht durch Humor gefiltert zeigt. Da ist keine Ironie im Titel: Bevor sie Chastity Belt gründete, sah sich Shapiro klar als einsamen Wolf. Das ist keine kleine Geste. Ich kann dieses Album so sehr nachempfinden wie in meinen 20ern: Das ist ein mutiges und oft berauschendes Gewirr aus gemischten Gefühlen und quälenden Melodien, die atemberaubende Angst (This Time of Night) mit schimmernder Erkenntnis (Different Now) und hauchdünner Ungewissheit (Stuck - geschrieben und gesungen von Grimm) verbindet. Es ist eine ernste Platte. Shapiro definiert es wahrscheinlich am besten selbst: ,I wanna be sincere." California's Joe Babylon has been steering his own Roundabout Sounds through some lovely deep house waters over the last few years. Now the producer makes a big statement with his own debut album. He is something of a veteran having co-founded Plug Research back in 1994 and hosted underground events in Los Angeles during the mid '90s. Following on from outings alongside the likes of Rick Wilhite and Rondenion he now brings his own dusty, carefully disheveled house sounds to the fore. They have been crafted using an MPC which gives them their rough-edged appeal and they go from heads down back room joints to dubbed-out minimalism via dream late-night reveries. It makes for a fresh take on a tried and tested house template.

The aim is to bring locals from dresden and eastern germany on the screen of like minded people. The scene is bursting with talents and audiophiles of several generations and therefore we want to give these talents a platform and make their output accessible to like-minded people.

‘Clone Scratch’ by Friedrich Ernst comes with a distinct electro vibe for build ups in a club and vocals in dreamy watery manner reminds us what’s up to us.

‘locknr01’ by The Isolator gives us a cold industrial goosebumps. A whole factory is under pressure performing that straight electro tune while heavy strings foreshadow its collapse. Here and there screws turn out of the steel beams, soft like bubbles. You have to take cover to avoid being shot.

A3 by Anachronism follows straight up. ‘Lost Control by Distance’ shows us what unconsciousness feels like. In this breakbeat thunderstorm we are sitting in a crashing airplane not quite ready for what's coming next.

With ‘Establishment’ the thunderstorm lightens and suddenly soft sunrays from Planetary Secrets come through the cloud cover. You are dreaming with soft melodies warming up your face while your body is moving to uk influenced breakbeat.

The duo KAWA KAWA is making their release debut with B2. This track clearly serves you on peak times with lovely and rough vocals while its energy easily lets you understand what a desire means.

The EP is finished with a fast electro belter from Otis Key. With it’s minimalistic approach
‘Copy Natural Processes at the Nanoscale’ lets you dive into the grid of existence with your electron microscope. From time to time you can see light coming from underneath with cold strings layered between the rhythm.

Guadagnino found himself resonating with Sufjan Stevens' lyricism through his work and initially asked Stevens to record an original song. Eventually, Stevens contributed three songs to the soundtrack: "Visions of Gideon", which was used at the end of the film, "Mystery of Love," which was featured in the film's first trailer, and a new rendition of "Futile Devices" with piano. Stevens penned the songs by using the script, the book, and the conversations with the director about the characters. It marks Sufjan Stevens' first soundtrack for a feature film.

The Keplar label presents the next instalment in a series of reissues from the catalogue of Sasu Ripatti’s seminal Vladislav Delay project. Originally released on Mille Plateaux, the vinyl edition of »Entain« from 2000 omitted two shorter tracks and included all others in an abridged form. With this reissue, the full album as it was pressed on CD is finally made available on vinyl. Besides a new remaster by Kassian Troyer, it was also given new cover artwork by Marc Hohmann that picks up on that of the »Whistleblower« reissue, released in early 2023 by Keplar. This serial visual approach highlights the conceptual continuity between those masterful explorations of the interplay between dub techniques, noise, and repetition.

Ripatti himself had reworked material from 1999’s »Ele« album for the release of »Entain,« which means that it can be considered the debut album proper of his Vladislav Delay project. It saw the Finnish artist aim more vigorously for abstraction than in his earlier releases as Vladislav Delay for labels such as Chain Reaction, which were collected on the iconic »Multila« compilation in 2000; another milestone from his back catalogue that has been reissued by Keplar in recent times. To mark this special occasion, »Multila« will be repressed by Keplar with a new artwork that matches the new design of »Whisteblower« and »Entain«.

»Multila« and »Entain« correspond with each other conceptually as much as they seem to differ on a musical level. The material on »Multila« was clearly indebted to the Berlin dub techno sound, marked by its grainy and at times abrasive sonic aesthetics. From the very first moments of the 22-minute long opener »Kohde« however, it becomes clear that »Entain« takes things further away from the dancefloor, aiming less for physical impact than for intellectual stimulation. A sort of electronic minimal music, it was primarily interested in letting discrete elements freely come into play with one another.

Much like »Multila,« however, »Entain« highlighted the subtle differences embedded in what only feels like repetitive music. Of course the massive bassline and ghostly dub riddims that permeate »Notke« as well as the deconstructed beat at the core of »Ele« still hint at Ripatti’s roots in beat-driven music. However, they also make his artistic transformation audible by turning their sources of inspirations into something entirely unheard of. »Entain« took the dub techno formula further than any other record before it—onwards into the realms of pure abstraction.

LA producer Blake Robin aka LUXXURY’s new full-length album finds the bassline obsessed disco addict experimenting with funk, synthpop and even (gasp!) pure instrumentals. ‘Increasingly in my most recent singles I’ve been treating vocals like instruments’ says Robin, ‘backgrounding and balancing them as sonic elements instead of centerpieces, so the listener gets lost in the groove.’ And indeed the star of these 11 songs is undoubtedly the 11 stellar basslines that ground the swirling synths and melodies as vocal fragments coolly dip in and out of the mix along.

Highlights include: KCRW fave ‘What Are We Gonna Do?’; the slap bass workout ‘Somebody Tonight’; the contemplative ‘…At Any Moment’ (playlisted by Purple Disco Machine) and its sister track, the title track ‘Alright’; while playful disco-house burner ‘Let’s Stay Together’ blends house and jazz funk rhythms with his trademark dusty basslines.

The album was 100% created by Robin, who wrote, performed, recorded and mixed all 11 songs, and even created the artwork. The 11 songs on LUXXURY’s album are all infectiously rhythmically-oriented while exploring new disco direction

«Opening Soon» is a culinary buddy movie with a background of gourmet grooves where body tricks at the turntables have been replaced by acrobatic pizza tricks. This album from Jean Tonique and Mi Man is a real tomato concentrate and ingredients cleverly dosed which abound in suave and feel good tracks. 11 tracks that we can imagine as the perfect soundtrack to accompany the dolce vita 2.0 of this great musical duo (between Mario Bros and Cheech & Chong).

A tasty and pop cuisine that gives pride of place to a nostalgia that gathers behind the tiled counter («No One Really Knows», «Memories») or on the dancefloor («Running After Time», «The Music»). We let ourselves slide and be lulled by the smoothness of the arrangements as silky as an «Extra Virgin Olive Oil».

Do The Right Thing, as they say, and it seems like those two found a way to celebrate a lifestyle full of friendly looks.

Tonique, who had already accustomed us to the spiciness of his sharp guitars continues to demonstrate a knowledge all in funk and finesse. He is accompanied by Man, who brings his sweetness and harmony. They combine their strength on this project initiated with the title «Day & Night» and its languorous disco tinged with rhodes and percussions with Salsoul accents.

If the tablecloths are white and red, we don't doubt that the inside of the delivery van is lined with silk and velvet of the most beautiful effect to "cruise" the night as in Brooklyn and East Harlem to the rhythm of «Never Get Old». Lightness and nonchalance for a songwriting full of coolness and analogical charisma boosted by a Moog which invokes the best of the 70/80's.

Iconic and timeless, with or without a disco ball, wouldn't the key word be Pizza-Yolo?

My Light, My World is a gorgeously slammin’ four track release by Brooklyn-based Ryan Clover on Eris Drew’s Ecstatic Editions imprint. We fell in love with Ryan’s music as we wore out the grooves on his killer 12 inch for ARTS. The tracks featured on My Light, My World are a perfect fit for Ecstatic Editions because, much like Eris’s sets, the tracks are beautiful musically and genuinely emotional, but they also seriously slap and translate powerfully on large sound systems. It is hard to find Big Room records with so much heart, so the label jumped to sign the tracks and prepare the project for release.

Clover’s arrangements on the EP unfold in truly magical and unexpected ways with buildups giving way to gorgeous musical passages. “We Love (We Feel)” is a heartfelt instrumental which sets the tone for the record, while the title tune “My Light, My World” declares boldly “ITS ON!” before heeding to woozy chords and a sax riff that sounds amazing in the mix. Flip the record over for “Here We F***ing Go!” which is a total boast track for deck players but doesn’t lose its sweetness in the process, and the powerfully fun closer “Let Me Tell U Sumthin’” which reminds sweaty dancefloors that “Love Is Special.” Ecstatic Editions hopes you’ll put your needle in the groove and dance hard to one of the season’s sweetest bangers.

Mit elf bisher unveröffentlichten BBC-Session-Aufnahmen und allen fünf Songs der ersten beiden Creation Records-Singles fängt 'Reverberations (Travelling In Time)' perfekt ein, was viele für eine entscheidende Ära einer der wichtigsten britischen Gruppen halten, die eine ganze Reihe von aufstrebenden Bands beeinflusste, allen voran The Stone Roses.
