Damals war dieser Signalweg schwer zu erkennen, wir waren zu sehr darin versunken. Aber hin und wieder taucht etwas wie Dizzy Magic auf und plötzlich offenbart sich die Bedeutung, diese Form, die man sehen, hören und fühlen kann. Eigentlich ist es ganz einfach. Nach dem ausgiebig gefeierten Meisterwerk ,Slave Ambient" (2011) erscheint nun zwei Jahre später - im März 2014 - das dritte Album der aus Philadelphia stammenden Band THE WAR ON DRUGS. "Lost in the Dreams" heißt das neue Glanzstück der Band um Adam Granduciel, deren Gründungsmitglied Kurt Vile mittlerweile solo unterwegs ist. Mit der Veröffentlichung des letzten Albums ,Slave Ambient" gelang der Band der langersehnte und verdiente Durchbruch. Daraufhin tourte die Band zwei Jahre lang von North Carolina bis New York City durch alle Rockclubs, spielte auf unzähligen Festivals und in Late Night-TV-Shows, die Amerika so zu bieten hat. Mit dieser Erfahrung im Gepäck tüftelte Granduciel gemeinsam mit dem Produzenten Jeff Zeigler (Lymbyc Systym, Kurt Vile u.a.) am neuen, dritten Album. Die Band komplett machen außerdem Dave Hartley (Bass) und Robbie Bennet (Piano u.a.), die auch im privatem Leben zu Granduciels engstem Umfeld gehören. Er sagt selbst zu seinem neuen Werk: ,Ich wollte, dass es ein Projekt unter Freunden wird. Jeder einzelne in der Band nimmt unser Projekt ernst. Coflo is a dancer, producer and Capoeira expert born and raised in the East Bay Area of California with a lifelong love of house music. For this one on Jambala, he hooks up with Adeniji Heavywind for a tune named after the label. It's the sort of cultured, organic sound that brings musical charm as well as infectious groove with Afro, soul and jazz all worked in through the bold brass notes, jangling rhythms and funky guitars, which get topped with a charming vocal a la Fela Kuti. The Backside mix is more deep and dubby to make for a tidy two tracker.

Gastr del Sol"s second album returns at last to the vinyl format - its first physical manifestation in well over a decade. Once again, a drop of the needle may ignite any number of queries, summed simply in one: What IS this music? Such is the potent energy of Crookt, Crackt, or Fly, retaining its otherworldly qualities some 32 years and countless musical movements since. Crookt, Crackt, or Fly expands upon The Serpentine Similar"s minimalist stance in unexpected ways, imposing further austerity in the soundscape but for an unpredictable expansive quantity periodically overflowing, waves of blood sluicing through the elevator doors. This is partially due to a change within the group dynamic: the departure of bassist Ken "Bundy" Brown and the arrival of a new partner for guitarist and singer David Grubbs - guitarist and sound fuckerer Jim O"Rourke. O"Rourke"s initial work with Gastr involved editing and recomposing recordings of the Grubbs-Brown-&-sometimes-John-McEntire lineup, producing an utterly outré collage of cut-ups and other types of tape processing. This became the "20 Songs Less" single, after which he was invited to play with the group. It was a time of flux; Brown recalls playing a Gastr show at the Metro around this time featuring himself, John McEntire, Grubbs and O"Rourke - and one of the pieces played was a Tortoise song! Throughout these shifts, Gastr del Sol"s music was never less than fully considered and composed, even in moments redolent with the suggestion of the random and the non-sequitur. Grubbs and O"Rourke made no attempt to replicate Serpentine"s arrangement of thick, scaly drones and hypnotic song-visions in their own partnership, finding Crookt, Crackt,"s sound instead in spiny, gamelan-like interactions between their (mostly acoustic) guitars, played precisely in and out of formation with bright, fleet-fingered abandon. O"Rourke"s fondness for field recordings and his capacity for tape manipulation intersected with Grubbs" sensibilities, edifying his evolving song style: written with increased sharpness and sly surreal humor, sung closer to silence. Halfway into "Work from Smoke", the sudden collapse of the sound-walls around us signals Crookt, Crackt"s major departure. From the thicket of guitars, a swell of drones and free-jazz squeals, made up of bass clarinet, vibraphone and organ, pulls the listener into an entirely other acoustic space. "Every Five Miles" derails in similarly tactile fashion: a guitar duet boils up thunderously, then fragments and spirals apart. As a free electric guitar part crops up, improbably holding the center, the acoustic space around it continues to disintegrate in ambient stereo. A wedding of folk music idioms to classical, improvised and modern compositional modes (including Gastr"s own formative post-punk mode), Crookt, Crackt, or Fly is a song-based reality steadily giving way to its alternative alchemies playing out within.

True to form, prolific producer Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck, No Joy, !!!, etc.) – with whom, Hot Garbage recorded their critically-acclaimed debut full-length, RIDE – does right by the band, masterfully harnessing the four-piece’s unique brand of rock & roll, setting in motion a parallel universe where phones are not what they seem, lobotomy has its merits, lower is actually better, and tunnels stretch the very fabric of spacetime. Anushka's third album Ancestry comes out on BBE Music as both digital and vinyl and represents a massive hitting of the duo's potential as songwriters, musicians and performers following their well received and critically acclaimed previous releases on Brownswood and Tru Thoughts respectively. Indeed Ancestry represents their best album to date and one which befits a release on one of the UK's (and the world's) premiere independent record labels. Anushka is the collaborative name for Victoria Port and Max Wheeler. The duo first met in the vibrant club, music and arts scenes in that creativity incubating south coast town that is Brighton.

With their first single, Yes Guess, gaining support from major broadcast influencers such as Gilles Peterson they released their debut album, Broken Circuit, in 2014. With major airplay support from Mary Anne Hobbs, Annie Mac, the aforementioned Gilles Peterson and others the second album Yemaya was released in 2021. On this second record they experimented with their sound, exploring darker and more complex songs and palettes. Both albums forged Anushka's sound and production values, combining a deep respect for the UK's electronic club culture mixed with Jazz and Soul. Now, with the release of Ancestry on BBE Music, the duo has created an album that furthers their sound, their songwriting, their arrangements and their production. Victoria's songwriting for Ancestry is influenced by her love of Ella Fitzgerald, Sampha, Jimmy Cliff and Georgia Anne Muldrow.

Max's approach to the production on Ancestry is driven by his own ancestral back catalogue of music from Moodymann and Theo Parrish and further back to Larry Heard, Wu Tang Clan and the 90's electronica of Tricky, Portishead and David Holmes. It definitely bears repeating that list of influences has resulted in Ancestry being Anushka's best album yet. With Generation Of The Void, NAILED TO OBSCURITY have crafted their most mature and expansive album to date. It"s been six years since LA DISPUTE released their last album, Panorama. Since then, the Michigan post-hardcore band-made up of Jordan Dreyer on vocals, Brad Vander Lugt on drums, Chad Morgan-Sterenberg and Corey Stroffolino on guitar, and Adam Vass on bass-dealt with the stagnance of the pandemic, celebrated the ten-year anniversaries of Wildlife and Rooms Of The House, and began working on NO ONE WAS DRIVING THE CAR. The fifth studio LP is the first entirely produced by the group, and it came together in Grand Rapids and Detroit, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Philippines: "I think the change in environment was really helpful to breathing new life into the process each time we came back to it," Dreyer says. Partly inspired by the 2017 psychological thriller First Reformed, NO ONE WAS DRIVING THE CAR reckons with malaise in the shadow of the looming apocalypse, which has noticeably been worsened by the advancement of tech. The title comes from a quote from a police officer Dreyer read in a news article about a lethal self-driving Tesla crash, an absurd event which raises questions about the amount of control we have in our own lives. In fourteen dynamic tracks, the band grapples with the existential topic and the human need to find comfort and a sense of security in an existence where we"re often thrust into chaos without permission.

Mike Popov is the musician behind the I Gemin project, which was conceived as a way of working disco style and sampling into his house tracks. And the results are brilliantly effective and charming. 'Introfall (Autumn)' makes for a low-slung downtempo start, 'Come Together' brings horn-led disco house fun and 'Black Tea Groove' sinks into a fat-bottomed and dubby rhythm alive with magical synth flourishes. The blissed out 'Summer Breeze' is an escapist charmer, and the flipside features three more exquisite genre studies that have real heart and authenticity.

Who doesn't love a good edit? And who really does them much better than Danny Krivit, a veteran of the game with millions of them (probably) to his name. Here he turns his hand to Sjuya Okino's 'Thank You (feat Navasha Daya)' which is a jazz dancer with effervescing broken beats, busy chords and live percussion under a freeform scat vocal that brims with soul. On the flip, DJ Kawasaki edits a Dimitri Form Paris mix of 'Give Your Love A Chance (feat Clara Hill)' which has a Chic-style bass riff and big disco energy that's ripe and ready to bring good times to any party.

Mark "Shaboom" Bell's classic Mecca Funk album is best known for its standout cut 'Woman Cry' and it is that fan-fav which gets pressed up here with three fresh reworkings. The classic cut famously opens Andrew Weatherall's iconic Heavenly Social DJ mix and is ripe and ready for these bold reinterpretations from Ricardo Villalobos, DJ Sneak, and Spatial Awareness. Villalobos transforms the 1999 original into a deep, hypnotic journey full of his signature minimal textures, while Sneak delivers a bass-heavy, dub-soaked house bomb made for peak-time floors. Rounding things out, Spatial Awareness offers a respectful yet electrified remix imbued with some fresh sonic flair.

Es ist ein Knäuel kaum zu bändigender Attitüde, verpackt in drei Minuten Indie-Dancefloor-Hedonismus. Er führt auch meisterhaft in die lyrische Perspektive des Albums ein: eine, in der selbstsichere Arroganz und tiefe Unsicherheit zwei Seiten der gleichen Medaille sind. "Ich habe viele Stücke von Oscar Wilde gelesen, in denen sich alles um Paradoxe dreht", erklärt Steen. "In 'Cutthroat' geht es um diese ganze Idee aus 'Lady Windermere's Fan': 'Das Leben ist viel zu wichtig, um ernst genommen zu werden'." Auch diese freche Selbsterkenntnis ist wichtig. Nach dem frühen Tod von Adam Schlesinger durch COVID-19 im Jahr 2020 dachte das IVY-Trio nie, dass es ein weiteres Album geben würde. Aber die Band hatte einen großen Fundus an unfertigen Songs und Demos in einem Lagerraum in Rhode Island aufbewahrt, der bis zu den Anfängen der Band zurückreicht. Adam hatte seine Parts bereits geschrieben und aufgenommen - er ist auf jedem Song zu hören. Das Trio holte sich auch Freunde ins Studio, die über die Jahre an Ivys Platten mitgewirkt hatten, um diese Songs zum Leben zu erwecken. "Traces of You" enthält alles, was wir an Ivy lieben und immer geliebt haben. Könnte da noch mehr kommen? (Ja, das könnte es.)

Brbko, one of the UK underground’s most enigmatic artists, shares his debut album ‘BRAK VS. BRAK’ via acclaimed label Scenic Route. The release is accompanied by new focus track ‘JOGA 07’ a bold, introspective moment marking a turning point in the project’s emotional arc.

BRAK VS. BRAK is a genre-fluid meditation on life, death, and duality, using the afterlife as a metaphor for ego, rebirth, and reflection. Its title nods to an episode of Samurai Jack, where the hero confronts a darker version of himself, a fitting metaphor for Brbko’s own exploration of internal conflict. “It’s about realizing that your demons aren’t always from outside,” he says. “Sometimes they’re of your own making.”

Written across Manchester, Lewisham, Paris, and New York, the album moves through raw vulnerability and surreal visions. It opens with ‘BONSAM 2’ a raw intro tackling power, appropriation, and immortality, before ‘POWER OF 6’ reflects on clout and connection. The title track pits Brbko against his own shadow, while ‘BUZZ LIGHTYEAR’ distills ego and isolation into a dreamy freestyle. ‘DARK CLARITY’ offers bittersweet closure through minimalist production and vivid intimacy. The mood shifts with ‘JOGA 07’, where faith and lightness emerge as redemption.

Manchester-born and Lewisham-based, Brbko has quietly shaped UK underground music: from pirate radio and stage curation to collaborations with Alice Glass, Zed Bias, and Andrew Aged. GQ calls him “an essential part of underground music,” while Dazed praises him as “a stir in the contemporary grime scene.”

Emil Friis’ neues Album Moving Images, seine erste Soloveröffentlichung für das Klassik-Imprint 130701 des Labels FatCat, ist ein Zeugnis der menschlichen Verfassung und der Dinge, die uns als Spezies zusammenbringen. Es ist inspiriert von den Bewegungen des menschlichen Geistes und den Geschichten, die wir durch Musik, Worte, Kunst und Film teilen.

Emerging from the shadows of a small apartment in Chicago’s South Side Pilsen neighborhood in 1999, Winterlight was produced and mixed by Daniel Thompson over the course of three years, from 1999 to 2002. It’s an intimate and evocative album that captures a pivotal chapter in Thompson’s life and echoes the spirit of a formative era in the underground music scene.
Thompson’s journey began in the heat of Houston, Texas, where his love for sound quickly became an obsession. By the late ’90s, he was among the first DJs in Houston to champion the sound of Chicago house, often driving long distances from Texas to Chicago in search of records, inspiration, and connection. These trips—equal parts pilgrimage and education—eventually led him to relocate to Chicago, where his artistic vision would fully take shape. Winterlight is the direct result of that move. Crafted over several years, the album embodies a raw, hands-on approach to production, built from analog synths, outboard gear, and hours of meticulous layering. Thompson leaned on tools like the Kurzweil K2000, SE-1, Juno-106, and classic processors such as the DP4 and TC Electronic units, shaping each track with
care and intention.
Blending atmospheric textures with hypnotic rhythm and subtle experimental flourishes, Winterlight captures the sound of an artist deeply engaged with his tools and surroundings. His extensive vinyl collection—over 3,000 records—served as both palette and inspiration, with carefully chosen samples lending further depth and narrative to the music. Now set for release across all digital platforms and as a limited double 12" vinyl edition through Berlin’s Word & Sound, Winterlight invites listeners into a soundscape that is both immersive and personal. More than just an album, it is a sonic document of a moment in time—rich in tone, memory, and intent. Auf diesem sorgfältig konzipierten Album lotet der Meisterproduzent und Mixologe mit seinem stets experimentierfreudigen Sound neue Grenzen aus. Hailing from the suburbs of Glasgow, this five-piece are best known for their three starry-eyed albums on the renowned Sarah Records - this being an expanded version of their first (an eight-track 10” at the time).
By the tail end of the 1980s the independent music scene in the UK was turning its back on the polish and over-indulgence of the mid-80s with its gated drums and wallpaper production. And those who weren’t stretching the boundaries of sonic innovation had tuned back to the post-punk ethos of ramshackle charm and zealous melody, even dousing the spirit with some political fervour once more. Influences were more likely to be Television and the Television Personalities than MTV.
The Orchids and The Sea Urchins were the first two bands to release 7” singles on the Sarah label having previously begun their recording existence on a shared flexi disc in 1987 (The Sea Urchins went on to become Delta, whose classic album ‘Slippin' Out’ from 2000 will be the second release on Circuitry). The Scottish five-piece released ‘I’ve Got a Habit’ and ‘Underneath the Window, Underneath the Sink’ as EPs before really finding their feet with ‘Lyceum’; the tracks, remastered from the original Toad Hall tapes are included on this reissue as are the three songs from the ‘What Will We Do Next?’ 7” (this collection closes with the frazzled stretch that is ‘Yawn’). 'Lyceum' was originally released in August 1989.
The album opens with ‘It’s Only Obvious’ and its gloriously youthful chorus of “who needs tomorrow when all I need, all I needed was you”. James Hackett somehow appears both forthright and rejected, something that one of their musical heroes The Go-Betweens also had down to a fine art. It barely takes a breath until midway through side two where ‘Hold On’ (sounding suspiciously like an unlikely objective) descends into the intro of ‘Blue Light’, the counted-in ‘1, 2, 3, 4’ whispered like the most hopelessly dejected rally. If that sounds depressing it isn’t. This record by The Orchids was a spirited source of comfort for an 18 year old at the time and still shudders with the best type of melancholy, one that’s spirited not indulgent. If you’re not familiar with the band’s charm, this is where you should begin.

After the success of the first volume, “Nihon No Wave 2” continues to unearth the hidden history of Japan’s underground electronic scene from the ’80s. This second installment digs even deeper into the archives, showcasing more rare tracks from obscure artists who operated on the fringes of Japan’s independent music world.

Like its predecessor, “Nihon No Wave 2” captures the raw energy and experimental spirit of the "Nippon-wave" era—where lo-fi synths, minimal rhythms, and post-punk aesthetics converged into a uniquely Japanese take on global sounds. Many of these recordings, originally released on cassette compilations or small-run vinyl with no international reach, have remained virtually unknown outside Japan.

Brian Auger, Julie Driscoll and The Trinity are today best known for their hit recording of Dylan’s then-unreleased This Wheel’s On Fire which is included here, together with covers of songs by the Staple Sisters, Nina Simone, Donovan, Mose Allison and David Ackles. Add in some band-written originals and you have twelve cool tracks mixing jazz, r’n’b, psyche and pop. All songs were specially recorded for the BBC, sound quality is excellent throughout.

Nu-hardcore quintet, Bodyweb, are the sound of someone’s nervous system on the verge of breakdown—hyperactive, tormented and unflinchingly vulnerable. Born out of the Leeds hardcore scene, they’re a shape-shifting alloy of jagged emotion and precision chaos. What began as late-night jams between Louis Hardy (Higher Power, Big Cheese, Fate) and Ben Jones (Pest Control) eventually mutated into train_wreck_simulation, a debut EP filled with frantic breakdowns and nu-metal swag that felt like the soundtrack to a digital exorcism. The final piece of the puzzle came from Hardy’s estranged childhood friend, pq. His twisted samples and synthetic textures are haunted and disturbed, injecting cyberpunk soul into hardcore flesh. Contorting through several iterations in the following years, the band absorbed Luke Thompson (Stiff Meds) on drums, filmmaker Tom Hobson on guitar and Naomi Macleod (Empire State Bastard) on bass, and laid down their first collective offering. deadwired is due out on Flatspot Records later this year. Bodyweb's second EP is a violent thesis on connection and pain that sends Hardy’s unfiltered vocals through heaven and hell. Four overstimulating tracks run a gamut of styles and influences from Slipknot to Björk, constantly lane-switching between dizzying heaviness, ambient soundscapes and brain-burrowing hooks. Entirely self-produced, deadwired upgrades the sonic formula laid down on the last record and raises the question: what else could exist in Bodyweb’s twisted roadmap? Nothing seems impossible. What seems important, however, is retaining the rawness in a style that can often turn sterile. “We still wanted it to sound very human. It had to be well produced but not cold and lifeless.” shares Hardy. “We didn’t use a click track. All guitars were real amps with microphones. We tried to make everything as real and raw as possible, we recorded using all the same gear we use when playing live too to really capture the energy of how it feels when we jam together." ‘Deadwired’ is a snapshot of violent implosion. Les Dunes is an alternative band from Haugesund, Norway. Consisting of members from bands like The Low Frequency in Stereo, Undergrünnen, Lumen Drones, Helldorado and Action & Tension & Space. The band consists of Per Andreas Haftorsen on guitar, Morten Jackman on drums and Per Steinar Lie on bass. The result reminds of the fantastic slow-core era bands of the 90ies, like Codeine who create their own version of Explosions In The Sky songs or like Per Steinar Lie claims "it feels like the vibe of the early days of The Low Frequency in Stereo". The music is rooted in a thought of a long freeway drive at night where time stops and the mind flows.

In einer Gesellschaft, in der viele eine nicht enden wollende Jugend anstreben. Was bleibt? Mit Zeilen wie "heute underground - morgen schlecht gelaunt" stellt sie die Halbwertszeit der Szene infrage. "Deine Freundin ist jung, küss ihren Mund, kauf einen Hund". Dass solche Textzeilen nicht ins schlagerartige Abrutschen, sondern extrem bissig funktionieren, ist Verdienst des Zusammenspiels aller Bandmitglieder. Am 5.9.2025 erscheint ihr selbstbetiteltes Mini-Album "ALLES EXHAUSTED" als auf 50 Stk. limitiertes Tape. Unter dem Namen "ALLES EXHAUSTED" formiert sich ein Netzwerk von Wiener Musiker*innen. Es ist keine Band im engeren Sinn, sondern funktioniert eher wie eine lose Bande, die sich 2025 irgendwo zwischen Müdigkeit und Experimentierfreude gebildet hat. Es ist die Gewissheit der spürbaren Kraft des gemeinsamen Lärmens im Proberaum, die sich als primäre Motivation erwies. Nicht aus Kalkül, sondern aus Erschöpfung. Aus dem Reflex heraus, dass etwas Neues passieren muss, um alles drum herum abzuschütteln. Und genau diese pure Energie ist auf dem sieben Songs umfassenden Mini-Album zu spüren. Wenn es darum geht, seinem eigenen Meister zu folgen, haben die PSYCHIC ILLS aus New York das seit ihren Anfängen 2003 perfektioniert. In den frühen Jahren gab es einige Veröffentlichungen bei Social Registry, und die Band verbrachte seitdem viel Zeit auf der Straße und kollaborierte mit so unterschiedlichen Künstlern wie Gibby Haynes von den BUTTHOLE SURFERS und Sonic Boom (SPACEMEN 3 / SPECTRUM). 2011 machte sich ,Hazed Dream", die erste Platte für Sacred Bones, über verdrehte Synthesizer her und wurde zu einer Platte sonnenverbrannten Psych Pops voller warmer Töne und Blues Songwriting. 2012 erledigte die Band zwei komplette US-Touren inklusive eines Stops auf dem Austin Psych Fest und einen Trip nach China. PSYCHIC ILLS nahmen ,One Track Mind", ihr viertes komplettes Album, im Herbst 2012 auf. Das Album wartet mit Kollaboration und Produktion von Neil Michael Hagerty von ROYAL TRUX und THE HOWLING HEX auf. ,One Track Mind" ist das direkteste Rockalbum, das die PSYCHIC ILLS jemals aufgenommen haben.

Meis neues Selbstbewusstsein ist zum Teil auf die Erfahrungen des vergangenen Jahres zurückzuführen, denn 2024 war ein Jahr der Veränderung für die Band Mei Semones. The latest by Andrew Clinco's acid punk alias VR SEX takes its title from an architectural phrase but more importantly refers to the warped, wicked underworld the songs both chronicle and condemn. Donning the moniker Noel Skum - an acerbic anagram of Elon Musk - Clinco vents his scorn for and fascination with the seedy, surreal margins of low-life Los Angeles, doomed to dead ends of vanity, lust, and technology. Although initially launched as an outlet for "heavier sounds" beyond Clinco's duties in new wave fantasists Drab Majesty, the project has ripened into a compelling exercise in world building, weaving themes of gritty city neofuturist sleaze within a framework of driving, distorted guitars and cathode-blasted synths. Echoes of Chrome, Wire, Minimal Man, and Sisters Of Mercy ripple through the collection but ultimately Rough Dimension charts its own twisted vision of "our unforgiving reality." Written and demoed across two weeks alone in a Marseille flat using his prized 1980's Gibson "Invader" and a laptop, Clinco then took the tracks to Strange Weather studios in Brooklyn to record with Ben Greenberg (Uniform, The Men) who helmed 2019's debut, Human Traffic Jam. The results are notably ripping, refined, and riveting. Riffs in alternate tunings chug and churn over mid-tempo drums punctuated by spikes of sci-fi electronics while the vocals swagger and spit venom ("where we walk is also where we shit / but if we bark at our reflections are we hypocrites? / impulses bleed right into our seed / where hate culminates the apple rotted on the tree"). It's a bristling mix of the melodic and the macabre, absurdist observations of fast living and desperate measures, the clock of youth ticking towards midnight as dreams unravel in Babylon. VR SEX's specialty is making these cautionary tales of psychic decay and tainted love a thrill rather than a drag. There's a sunglasses at night glamor to Clinco's choruses and solos, a wit to his black leather judgements ("what is the answer / to cancerous people / walking in my line of sight?"). The music's milieu tends towards parasites and predators but its mood skews refreshingly accelerated and amused, cruising the strip with a cigarette, watching goths and limousines crawl in gridlock beneath digital billboards. The Rough Dimension may be a cesspool, but it's home.

Nestled away in the UKs quiet, picturesque east coast town of Ipswich, the lads in Basement are conflicted between the comfort of the beautiful familiar and the allure of escape. This duality pervades the band's existence. As frontman Andrew Fisher's gravelly yowl skips and stretches over driving rhythms and poignant guitar melodies, its clear Basement expertly walk the line between the contrasts of heartrending pop and gruff post-hardcore. When working through a slow-burning mid-tempo or pounding out driving punk, Basement has a quiet layer of jagged desperation weaving songs together under the smooth melodic surface. Much like a coming of age, the songs are toiling, torn and bursting at the seams.

Recently I was approached by my old friend Travis Millard to make some original music for Freedom Finger - a crazy space-shooter video game he had been developing with Jim Dirschberger and Wide Right Interactive game studio. I was able to land 6 instrumentals that pop up at various points throughout the gameplay.As the game was being rolled out, the idea arose to have me do 3 more tracks - this time fully fleshed out songs with lyrics mostly inspired by Freedom Finger's gameplay. These tracks would accompany some brand new levels that would be made available as downloadable content for the game.We have decided to release all of the music I have done for Freedom Finger as a 10" vinyl EP available through Rhymesayers Entertainment. This includes the 3 full length vocal tracks, as well as the 6 shorter beats that loop throughout the game. Some of these tracks also feature additional instrumentation from my friends and frequent collaborators, Grimace Federation.Furthermore, Jim has directed a video for the song Drums on the Wheel - featuring Freedom Finger gameplay, and some brand new visuals drawn by Travis and animated by Steven Gong.The game is an absolute blast, and I hope you enjoy this music. Neben Cartwright war die eine Konstante der letzten drei Reigning Sound Jahre Keyboarder Dave Amels, der ansonsten in der Brooklyn-Soul-Combo The Jay Vons Schwarzarbeit machte. Etwa zur gleichen Zeit war Dan Auerbach von den Black Keys nach Nashville gezogen und kümmerte sich dort in seinem Privatstudio darum, dem Gitarrensound der Parting Gifts Platte den letzten Schliff zu verpassen. "Dan war begierig darauf, etwas im neuen Studio zur Vorbereitung auf eine bevorstehende Sitzung mit Dr. John zu tun, und bot er mir etwas Studiozeit sowie seine Produktionsunterstützung an. Da saß ich nun ohne Band in einem Nashville-Studio, die Uhr tickte. Ich rief in Brooklyn an und The Jay Vons sagten ja. Ich rief Scion an und bat um drei Flugtickets und Hotelzimmer. In wenigen Stunden war die Band auf dem Weg nach Nashville. In zwei Tagen nahmen wir fünf Songs auf. Ich habe diese fünf mit drei Outtakes der vorherigen Reigning Sound LP "Love and Curses" mit Lance Wille am Schlagzeug und Dave Gay am Bass kombiniert.", erzählt Cartwright und fügt hinzu: "Greg + The Jay Vons ist die bis heute gültige Reigning Sound Besetzung." Pink vinyl reissue of singer-songwriter Lizzy McAlpine's debut album, Give Me A Minute, which was originally self-released in August 2020. The album features hit tracks "Pancakes for Dinner" and "To The Mountains". Lizzy has since released two more full length album, and has grown to over 11M monthly listeners on Spotify, and just under 1M followers on Instagram.

Johnny Davis and Reggie Hudson were American songwriters stationed at a G.I. base in Germany when they composed "Expand Your Mind”, a
song they originally wrote for Marvin Gaye but decided to put out on their own. Davis and Hudson stayed on in Germany where their music
careers flourished.

Johnny Davis, who handled the lead vocals, became one of the real voices of Milli Vanilli years later. Recorded in 1985, featured here is the original 12" version of "Expand Your Mind" including the original instrumental version.

The talented Canadian vocalist Tara Laine recorded the funky gem “You Made Me Believe” with members of the band Change, an Italian-
American post-disco group that was heavily influenced by Chic. Recorded in 1985 for the legendary Street Level label, featured here is he
original 12” version complete with bonus instrumental. This session was produced by in-demand session drummer Leslie Ming, whose fine work
can be heard on the records of Kashif, Melba Moore, B.T. Express and many others.

Local Philadelphia singing sensations Al and Tyrone Chestnut self produced the classic 12" single "Sweet Little Rita” mixed in New York in 1983
by the highly regarded Steve Goldman, who was the chief engineer for Mighty M productions and whose mixes for Kashif, Evelyn Champagne King, Melba Moore, George Benson and others, became radio staples. Like most Street Level releases,
"Sweet Little Rita" was recorded inPhiladelphia, mixed in New York, and originally released in Canada. Presented here is the original 12" version plus bonus instrumental version.

Bendik Giske’s Beatrice Dillon-produced 2023 album gets an addendum with reworks from Carmen Villain, aya, Hanne Lippard, Hieroglyphic Being, Wacław Zimpel and Dillon herself.

Giske’s clearly got his ear to the ground; his last remix record was an invitation for Laurel Halo to put her stamp on »Cruising«, while 2018’s »Adjust EP« roped in Deathprod, Total Freedom, Lotic, and Rezzett. Now comes this new LP of remixes and it’s one of the best we’ve heard in aeons. Carmen Villain boots things off with a remix of »Slipping«, following her excellent (and way, way too underrated) »Nutrition EP« with a giddy, subtle roller that sounds as if it’s been constructed using only Giske’s raw stems. His breaths and leathery key presses – already amped up by Dillon’s detailed recording – are magicked into a dubby concrète groove that’s enhanced with the sparest melodic elements: echoing rainforest-at-night horn blasts, and lopped off decay trails that help fuel the momentum.

aya’s revision of the same track takes a different approach, forming forceful overlapping polyrhythms from Giske’s clanks, using the gamelan-like arpeggios for melodic weight and repetition. The result is a constantly shifting, hypnotic trancer that’s achingly organic – more Raja Kirik than Paul Van Dyke. Polish clarinetist and producer Wacław Zimpel, meanwhile, supplements his trippy recent collaboration with James Holden on a similarly levitational wrinkle of »Slipping« that twists Giske’s quivering sequences with microtonal synth prangs, and gusty echoes. But it’s Jamal Moss who plays fastest and loosest with Giske’s source material, calling back to April’s psy-house stunner »Dance Music 4 Bad People« with a powdery, sexualised banger that buries the breathy »Start« stems underneath neon synths, and brittle drum loops.

»I’m a digital nomad,« Lippard deadpans over Giske’s »Not Yet«. »I’m addicted you know that.« It’s a typically dry treatment from the conceptual artist that unexpectedly amps up the hypnotic qualities of Giske’s original, adding her circuitous charm to his concertina-ing sax sequences. And to tie things up perfectly, Beatrice Dillon returns with her diaphanous remix of »Rise and Fall«, built to emphasise the radically different approaches of each artist.

20th Anniversary Edition of «The Creep» by Slomo, this ambient doom masterwork is available on vinyl for the first time via Ideologic Organ. This is a storied album of verbal history, and emerged from a figurative long barrow deep within a virtual space of great depth and contemplation, an inverted framing of acoustic space with heavy floors ranging from the wake of COIL to the heaviest Japanese fire of psychedelia to the monuments of drone coagulating in the early ‘aughts. A first CDR edition in 2005 garnered focus of heavyweights like SUNN O))), Julian Cope, the esoteric legendary record store Aquarius, and the Wire.
Ideologic Organ are honoured to have been tasked to bring this to a limited LP for the very first time, and collaborated with mastering genius Rashad Becker to create a 61 minute single LP in a perfect cut.

‘Slomo is a 2-piece made up of myself, Holy McGrail, and Howard «Iron Man» Marsden. Our debut album THE CREEP was released in a run of 100 copies on FUCK OFF & DI in 2005, after attracting a great buzz in its earlier promo form. THE CREEP is a single 1-hour-long track recorded live with minimal overdubs & zero eye-contact. Malnourished musical structures flourish, flounder and flag in virtual stasis.

Vom Beginn des Album-Openers „Obsidian Mirror“ an ist die Atmosphäre beklemmend, dicht mit einem erstickenden Unbehagen. Wenn sich das epische, 14-minütige Schlussstück „Disquiet“ in einer Masse formlosen Rauschens auflöst, haben Ritual Mass den Hörer in eine Welt gezogen, in der das Leiden kein Ende, sondern eine Bedingung der Existenz ist. Let’s Start Again – A Collaboration between Mikekon & BTA (Byron The Aquarius), connected whilst Byron was touring Australia in 2023. Mike threw an intimate afterparty for Byron after his Nature’s Calling festival tour and got talking about Music, DJing and Life.
They threw some beats around to feel out and Byron began laying some lush keys, and within hours the magic was made. The project was left to cool off a little while and the two picked it up and polished it (Hence the title “Lets Start Again” before setting the date for a mid 2025 release via Mother Tongue distribution.

WIP Music is proud to have this as their first vinyl release under the label, further emphasising its desire to share timeless electronic music.

Amoul Bayi Records continues its mission of discovering and showcasing West African artists. After introducing talents such as Daba Makourejah and Saah Karim, the Dakar-based label returns with a new release from one of the most soulful
voices in Gambian reggae: Royal Philosopher.

"Thank You Jah" is a song of gratitude, carried by the emotive and distinctive voice of Royal Philosopher. With humility, he expresses his thankfulness for the talent he has received, the path he has walked, and the strength that has guided him along the way.

Built on a dynamic Digi Roots riddim produced by Yared and mixed by Rootical45, the track provides the perfect space for his voice to shine. The refrain – “Thank you Jah for giving I talent” – echoes like a personal prayer and a universal message, able to resonate beyond belief systems.

Royal Philosopher is a Gambian singer whose powerful and precious voice is shaped by spirituality, African heritage, and musical commitment.

Born in Banjul, he first discovered his vocal gift in a church choir, where he developed a heartfelt and sincere expression. He fell in love with reggae through the voice of Garnett Silk, whose intensity and devotion deeply influenced his path. He began his journey with the group The Royal Family, before pursuing a solo career, releasing music with consistency and authenticity.

Today, he presents "Thank You Jah", a single produced by Amoul Bayi Records, imbued with gratitude and faith, true to his artistic vision: sincere, elevated, and deeply connected.

Designed both for turntables and streaming platforms, the single will be released in digital format and on 7" vinyl. The artwork is by renowned Senegalese graffiti artist King Mow.

Russell Haswell and Florian Hecker have both a long history with Mego/Editions Mego. Individual releases have peppered the Mego catalogue since Haswell’s Live Salvage 1997->2000 cd release (MEGO 012) in 2001 and the debut Hecker release IT ISO161975 (MEGO 014) in 1998.

The individual exploration of sonic phenomena by these two practitioners has resulted in both being highly regarded for their uncompromising approach to sound as matter. Russell Haswell and Florian Hecker came together as a collaborative duo with the now-legendary record Blackest Ever Black, somewhat inexplicably, on the classical imprint of Warner Brothers.

In 2025, Hecker and Haswell return with a new album featuring the two-channel edit produced initially for their UPIC DIFFUSION SESSION #23, performed as a live diffusion across 8-channels at the X100 Festival, Berlin, 2023, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Xenakis' birth.

This record furthers the duo's exploration of Xenakis's UPIC system as the sole instrument. The UPIC is a computer music system that generates sound from visual input. The original intention of the system developed by Xenakis was to make a utopian tool for producing new sounds accessible to all, independent of formal training. One can locate footage of Xenakis and a group of children making drawings for the system in the 70's.

The duo set off experimenting with a diverse array of hand-drawn images to feed the UPIC system including news photographs of disasters and atrocities, "food porn" through to depictions of the natural world and microscopic images of molecular structures (including 'the blackest ever black'). The resulting eccentric audio from these images is claimed by the artists to heighten synaesthesia and is as mysterious as it is baffling.

Throughout UPIC DIFFUSION SESSION #23 frequency clusters move and morph in the most unusual manner, shifting and stretching into shapes that hint at some kind of magical process. What starts out deceptively simple soon unravels into a large array of sonic mayhem. Symbolic jet planes are shredded by a swarm of insects, a metal bowl howls into the void, a tiny tin toy crawls into a thicket with the resolute aura of a black hole. A burning geyser of laser forms liquid shrapnel. This is sound as an alchemical process, a constant chimerical flow into the netherworld and is the net result of the decades long radical investigations by the two artists involved. UPIC DIFFUSION SESSION #23 is a direct, rich and rewarding listen for those willing to invest time into the outer limits.

Rivet’s new album for Editions Mego is an uplifting and joyous affair coming in the wake of tragedy and disenchantment. It is yet another rebirth from an artist willing to take a step back and reprise the current situation he is in. Mika Hallbäck has a long credible history in the Swedish underground. First recognised for his industrial techno works under the Grovskopa moniker he worked privately on more experimental works that eventually came out as On Feather and Wire, an album released on Editions Mego in 2020. After much acclaim for this bold new direction that blended electronic abstraction, pop and industrial forms into a heavy synthetic trip two tragedies struck. One was the passing of label boss Peter Rehberg and then the passing of his dog Lilo, who was as close as a companion one could have. These events led to the release of the more unsettling follow up L+P-2 (Lilo and Pita minus two) on Midnight Shift Records in 2023. Peck Glamour sees Rivet return to the reawakened Editions Mego with an album of optimism inspired by reconciliation with loss and further explorations of new mental/sonic realms.

Hallbäck defines his approach as not being married to any particular machine, instrument, process or genre. However he holds a particular affinity to sampling, of which, he says, provides the dirt and grit amongst what would otherwise be pristine, generic machine music. The contemporary crate digging method of scouring obscure download music bogs for unique sounds was his preferred research practice.

Peck Glamour is an album full of tracks brimming with the excitement of exploration. It's the results of a mind informed by punk, industrial, techno, dancefloor, disappointment, trauma and rebirth. Here the synthetic and authentic is viewed simply as the same means of human rationale and expression.

The opening, ‘Catch Up to Light’, sets the scene with ecstatic and odd fluorescent vocals sliding amongst crystalline likembe whilst synths swirl amongst the external festivities. ‘Orbiting Empty Cocoon’ is somewhat a homage to the alien sound worlds of The Orb, one which takes the listener deeper into a mind melting array of teased potential as visual elements are executed in a mask of audio wizardry and euphoric staccato rhythms, the later being a nod to Singeli music. ‘Patitur Butcher’ is more dance frontal utilising the Ghatam drum and a YouTube rip of a Chinese language lesson. ‘Plastic Bag Putain’ was made during the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and should be clear of its intent. ‘All that Heaven Allows’ is a marimba cover of an imaginary Love Parade anthem. 'Kyrie Geire’ potentially briefly fills the void left by the demise of Coil. The entire trip of Peck Glamour is sewn up with ‘We left before we came’ whereby extraneous recordings of double bass player Gregory Vartian-Foss (tuning/strumming/moving the bass) are superimposed with local field recordings to create a gorgeous bed of sounds acting as an exciting exit music to this sharp collection of cinematic ear excursions.
