Das in Chicago ansässige Quintett Brigitte Calls Me Baby kündigt sein Debütalbum 'The Future Is Our Way Out' an, das über ATO Records erscheinen soll!

'The Future Is Our Way Out' wurde teilweise im RCA Studio A in Nashville mit dem 9-fachen Grammy-Preisträger Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, Chris Stapleton) aufgenommen.

Mit ihren poetischen Meditationen über Sehnsucht, Angst und die Komplexität der Vergänglichkeit ist das Album eine kraftvolle Weiterentwicklung der Debüt-EP 'This House Is Made Of Corners' von Brigitte Calls Me Baby, welche von vielen Seiten gelobt und mit dem Nervenkitzel einer vergangenen Ära beschrieben wurde. Post-Punk Elemente wechseln sich mit tanzbaren Rhythmen und Gitarrenriffs ab, die vor allem zusammen mit der Stimme von Sänger Leavins immer wieder an The Smiths erinnert.

Bei der Wahl des Titels für das Debütalbum landete die Band bei einem Satz, den Leavins als Teenager impulsiv auf ein weißes T-Shirt gekritzelt hatte, und den er im Laufe der Jahre immer wieder aufgriff und schließlich in einen üppigen und filmischen Popsong verwandelte.

Mit 'The Future Is Our Way Out' legen Brigitte Calls Me Baby nun ein Werk vor, das auf geniale Weise Genres und Epochen überspannt und die üppige Romantik des Pop aus der Mitte des Jahrhunderts mit der frenetischen Energie und stacheligen Intensität des Indie-Rocks der frühen Jahrtausendwende verbindet. Im Mittelpunkt steht Leavins' hypnotisch croonender Gesang. Das Ergebnis ist eine seltene Konvergenz von Raffinesse, Stil und unverhohlener Aufrichtigkeit.

Pat Metheny hatte sein Debüt bei ECM als Mitglied von Gary Burtons Band auf dem Album Ring im
Jahr 1974 gegeben, aber Bright Size Life, seine erste Studioaufnahme als Leader überhaupt, war das
Album, das ihn schlussendlich als neue kreative Kraft mit einem frischen Ansatz im Kontext des zeitgenössischen Jazz profilierte. Das im Dezember 1975 in Ludwigsburg aufgenommene und von Manfred Eicher
produzierte Album wurde von Methenys damaliger Stammband mit Bob Moses am Schlagzeug und dem
virtuosen, aber damals weitgehend unbekannten Jaco Pastorius am Bass eingespielt.
”Ich könnte die gesamte Musik von Bright Size Life auch jetzt noch spielen”, sagte Pat Metheny in
einem Interview für die Library of Congress im Jahr 2021. ”Es fühlt sich immer noch relevant an; die
Argumente darin erscheinen mir immer noch gültig und sie sind es wert, darüber zu reflektieren.... Damals
hatte ich das Gefühl, dass ich eine Platte machen wollte, die vielleicht die einzige sein würde, die ich je
machen würde. Ich hoffte, ein Statement zu Dingen abzugeben, die mir in Bezug auf Melodie, Harmonie,
Triospiel und sogar das Leben im Allgemeinen wichtig waren.”

Asmaa Hamzaoui stands out as a pioneering female figure in the traditionally male-dominated realm of Gnawa music. With her group, Bnat Timbouktou, she brings a dynamic and spiritual dimension to the genre, infusing it with the vibrant energy of desert blues. Despite the essential role women have played in Gnawa rituals, female musicians have historically been underrepresented. Hamzaoui, however, is at the forefront of changing this trend. Born into a family deeply entrenched in Gnawa traditions in Casablanca, Hamzaoui was immersed in this musical heritage from a young age. Her father, a master musician, and her mother, a dancer, provided a rich environment for her early education in music. She learned to play the guembri, a three-stringed lute central to Gnawa music, and began performing with her father's band on the qraqeb, metal castanets used in Gnawa music, and in the choir. Encouraged by her father, she eventually formed her own group, Bnat Timbouktou. The group's debut album, "Oulad Lghaba," recorded in collaboration with the Swedish label ajabu! Records, was critically acclaimed and nominated for a Songlines Music Award. This album, along with their upcoming release "L'bnat," showcases Hamzaoui's commitment to preserving and revitalizing Gnawa music. "L'bnat," will emphasize the female traditions and spiritual aspects of Gnawa culture. Hamzaoui's performances are characterized by her powerful voice and the rhythmic, percussive playing of the guembri. Her music not only pays homage to the spiritual and healing qualities of Gnawa but also aims to keep the tradition alive by introducing it to new audiences worldwide.

West London’s Slip ‘N Slide presents a special four-track package on wax for the first time, as Seth Troxler and Franck Roger deliver remixes of the 1997 Blaze favourite ‘Lovelee Dae’. An iconic artist who needs little introduction, Seth Troxler’s name is synonymous with American house and techno of the last two decades, with his formative years in Detroit shaping his sound before moving to the techno capital of the world Berlin. His ventures as a label boss, and with Night Tales, further cemented the talent as an underground hero - he now joins the likes of Carl Craig, Roman Flügel, and Isolée in giving ‘Lovelee Dae’ an expertly crafted remix, building from minimal grooves to a grand and immersive wash of sound. Also stepping up on remix duties is Parisian producer, crate digger and label boss of Real Tone Records, Franck Roger, who adds his signature beat focussed approach to the iconic track. This vinyl package also includes Blaze’s striking original, as well as one of the very first remixes from the late 90s, the 20:20 Vision remix of which used copies go for big money. It's a cinematic work that immerses listeners in a dystopian realm that blends avant-garde tones with manga-inspired cyberpunk vibes. 'Gemelo' is the new album from songwriter and pop auteur Angélica Garcia. Its title is a reference to the twin self – the idea of a second, more intuitive self within. It’s a vibrant, prismatic hybrid-pop record that soundtracks a journey through the different stages and forms of grief. Angélica explores its inherent loneliness, beauty, and tension, eventually finding liberation. 'Gemelo' also expertly deconstructs facets of universal themes like religion, spirit, heritage, womanhood, and ancestral veneration.

Born in East LA with Mexican and Salvadoran lineage, Angélica embodies the essence of contemporary America, a cultural landscape continually evolving through its fusion with rich Hispanic influences. In a reflection of modern America itself, 'Gemelo' also marks Garcia’s first album sung almost entirely in Spanish, inviting listeners to reconsider what they think an American record can be.

'Gemelo' was produced by Carlos Arévalo of LA-based rock band Chicano Batman, his first time working in such a role. Sequenced with extreme intent, the album progresses from a delicate, tender entry on Side A which serves almost like a meditation, to the visceral intensity of Side B, which immerses into the difficult, at times terrifying work of healing. With growth and exploration like wind behind her, Garcia arrives at her clearest and most fully realized vision of self on 'Gemelo.'

'Gemelo' is the anticipated follow-up to her 2020 breakthrough 'Cha Cha Palace,' which featured on several year-end lists and brought Angélica to NPR’s Tiny Desk.

Over atmospheric instrumentation expanded by cinematic structure and pacing, Pearlty presents Knifeplay somewhere between dream-pop influenced shoegaze and lofty slowcore, never fully committing to one or the other in its insistence on creating an immersive, organic world.

Originally released in 2019, Knifeplay’s vivid debut Pearlty documents songwriter Tj Strohmer’s expressions of early adulthood in what he describes as “the journey from innocence to experience.”

Written during a time of immense inspiration, Strohmer was able to peel himself away from detached nihilism, uncovering the physicality and therapeutic powers of songwriting. Newly emboldened by this discovery and the talented community surrounding him, Strohmer channeled this revelation into his work, taking Knifeplay from a bedroom experiment that merely wrote songs to a more substantial project with a purpose.

SHHE, Scottish-Portuguese sound artist and producer Su Shaw, is releasing new mini-album, ‘DÝRA’, on July 19th via One Little Independent Records. The ambient project took form during a self-directed artist residency in the Westfjords of Iceland, influenced by the tranquillity of the Dýrafjörður fjord. Immersed in a distinct landscape with quietly monumental surroundings, Shaw began documenting her experience of the environment through field recordings and environmental data captured across several geographical locations.

‘DÝRA’ is an exploratory and mesmerising durational piece, evocative in its construction, inviting listeners to imagine their own space and scale within a landscape. Reflective, textured, and pensive, with expansive synths that further showcase Shaw’s deftness in sculpting immersive and introspective soundscapes.

Dýrafjörður is a 32-kilometre-long fjord in the Ísafjarðarbær municipality, in the Westfjords of Iceland. Shaw originally embarked on a 10-day residency in 2018, during which the village experienced an immense storm, hindering her schedule. Shaw explains, “It was my first visit to Iceland, and I’d made myself a meticulous itinerary in advance, which included recording at the summit of some of the peaks in the fjord. When the storm arrived after only a few days, it made any kind of travel challenging – so partly out of necessity to be able to continue developing the project, I began recording my immediate surroundings instead – attuned to incidental sounds from around the village and fluctuating weather states – and I quickly built up an archive of the environment”.

But the journey doesn't end there. Alongside Wink's groundbreaking remix, the release includes the raw and percussive original version of 'Get House,' straight from the depths of 1994. With a bassline that delves deep into the soul of the dance floor and cut-up vocals interlaced with stiff snares, this track delivers an edgy groove that remains as exhilarating as ever. Remastered for contemporary audiences, the original version retains its raw intensity while boasting enhanced clarity and depth. "I used to rock the original at parties and raves all over the world in the mid-'90s, and it was one of those special records of the time that combined house, acid house, and electro-breaks. It was perfect to segue from different styles as a DJ. One of my favorites on the mighty Definitive Recordings catalog!" says Josh Wink about the original. Adding to the excitement, the release also features the acapella version of 'Get House,' providing DJs and producers with a versatile tool for creative remixing and reimagining. 'Get House' by Calisto, including the Josh Wink remix, the original version, and the acapella, will be available on all major streaming platforms as well as on vinyl.

Es sollten nicht sechs Jahre zwischen den Alben von ORB vergehen. Das aus Geelong in Australien stammende Trio beehrte uns zuletzt mit einem
Studioalbum in Form des 2018 erschienenen, charakteristisch berauschenden "The Space Between", bevor sie 2019 als Support von King Gizzard &
The Lizard Wizard durch Europa und Amerika tourten.
Aber die Zeit vergeht selten wie erwartet - wichtig ist, dass das vierte Album endlich da ist, mit genug Nebenwegen und Falltüren, um uns wirklich gut
zu beschäftigen.
Die lang erwartete 'Tailem Blend'-LP erscheint auf Fuzz Club. "Tailem Bend" bietet immer noch die unvermeidlichen Fuzz-Lawinen, aber ist gesättigt
von Vintage-Wärme und Tiefe und zeigt ORBs Geschick für melodische Hypnose inmitten einer düsteren Atmosphäre.

Wie das Sprichwort sagt - gute Dinge es wert, auf sie zu warten, und das sechste Werk der Schweden, Atropos Doctrina, ist das bisher beste Album der Band.
"Sechs Jahre voller Pandemien, Krisen und Kriege sind vergangen, seit wir das letzte Mal den drohenden Untergang der Menschheit angekündigt haben. Vieles und nichts hat sich geändert. Tragödie, Ekstase und Untergang sind immer noch unsere ständigen Begleiter, und das Zeitalter der Menschheit kriecht unermüdlich dem Ende seines Weges entgegen. Die Moirai haben deinen Lebensfaden gesponnen und abgemessen, und nun liegt er in der Hand von Atropos dem Unbeugsamen..."
Atropos Doctrina wurde unter dem wachsamen Auge von Marduks Magnus „Devo“ Andersson in den Endarker Studios in Norrköping aufgenommen, und die Chancen stehen gut, dass man für eine ganze Weile keine härtere Produktion mehr hören wird.
Trotz des lateinischen Titels sind alle Texte auf dem Album in der Muttersprache der Band verfasst, was ein Ende des anglo-schwedischen lyrischen Ansatzes bedeutet.
Die Gleichgültigkeit gegenüber Trends und Szene-Stimmungen ist nach wie vor Vanhelgds Trumpf. Und auch nach 17 Jahren ist die Band so kompromisslos wie eh und je und feilt an ihrer einzigartigen Mischung aus atmosphärischem Death und Black Metal bis zur Perfektion.
