,AGON" ist das Regiedebüt von Giulio Bertelli und feierte auf den Filmfestspielen von Venedig 2025 Premiere. Er begleitet drei Sportlerinnen bei ihrer Vorbereitung und ihrem Wettkampf bei den LUDOJ 2024, fiktiven Olympischen Spielen, in ihren jeweiligen Disziplinen - Judo, Fechten und Sportschießen. Inspiriert von den historischen Figuren Kleopatra, Jeanne d'Arc und Nadezhda Durova werden diese Frauen vor dem politischen, sozialen, technologischen und physischen Hintergrund dargestellt, der den Spitzensport und die Höchstleistungen in diesen Disziplinen prägt. AGON untersucht eine zeitgenössische Darstellung der Widersprüche dieser Sportarten, die als Friedensübungen für den Krieg begannen, während ihre Disziplinen institutionell bereinigt, zu harmloser globaler Unterhaltung umgestaltet und schließlich in neuen digitalen Arenen gänzlich entmaterialisiert werden. Die Veranstaltungen bei LUDOJ finden nicht in Sportarenen statt, sondern in Tonstudios, ohne Live-Publikum. Diese spartanischen Räume werden nur von Athleten, Sportfunktionären und dem Filmteam bevölkert, die jede audiovisuelle Informationsebene einfangen. In dieser Umgebung wird jeder Mattenaufprall, jedes Schwertgeklirren und jeder Schuss bis ins kleinste Detail erlebt. Tom Wheatleys Filmmusik begann als konzeptioneller Spiegel dazu. Er nahm drei Musiker, von denen jeder einen einzigartigen Ansatz für sein Instrument verfolgte, wobei jedes Instrument eine Ausdruckssprache besitzt, die sich auf die jeweilige Sportart bezieht: Percussion für Judo, Cello für Fechten, Saxophon für Gewehrschießen. Hinzu kamen klaustrophobische analoge Elektronik und Dudelsäcke, um einen Zustand jenseits des Wettkampfs darzustellen: Krieg. Die reichhaltigen, detailreichen Signale dieser Musiker wurden live im Studio extrem bearbeitet, wodurch sich die Musik zeitweise in eine Grauzone zwischen Filmmusik, Sounddesign und Geräuschaufnahmen bewegte. ,Ich sah eine wesentliche Parallele zwischen dem Sportler und dem Musiker. Dass man diese Werkzeuge hat, die man durchs Leben trägt und die komplexe Nutzungsgeschichten in sich bergen. Diese Techniken und Traditionen werden erlernt und mit zeitgenössischen Technologien kombiniert, um neue Potenziale zu erschließen. So wie Alex Sokolov zu ihrer Waffe steht, so steht Jean-Luc Guionnet zu seinem Saxophon. Aus diesem Modell entstanden viele Ideen, die den Grundstein für die Filmmusik legten: die Anwendung der Gestik des Degenfechtens auf Utes Bogen; die ,gestimmte Luft` sowohl des Gewehrs als auch des Saxophons; die Übernahme des Judo-Konzepts des Schwerpunkts und dessen Anwendung auf eine Form rhythmischer Schwerkraft bei Seijiro. Somewhere in the Wind is the third record that Loren Connors and I have made together. Of the three, it’s the first that consists exclusively of electric guitar duos and it’s the first that was recorded live. To me it feels very much like a live record; this music happened in crowded rooms in Brooklyn on two dates in 2025 and there’s an urgency to connect with others and a pleasure in doing so that can be heard on both of these tracks. On the first of our duo records (Arborvitae, 2003) I primarily play piano, and on the second (Evening Air, 2024) we switch off on piano and guitar. Both of those albums bespeak the privacy of the recording studio, where time is suspended and one can explore the quietest of sounds. By contrast, Somewhere in the Wind is the noisiest, most raucous and most free of our duo records. It’s the sound of us taking it to the stage.

I became a fan of Loren’s playing from the moment that I first heard it, after happening upon a beat-up copy of In Pittsburgh circa 1992 in a used bin in the Dr. Wax record store in Chicago where my then-bandmate Bundy K. Brown worked. Everyone has taken a chance on a record because it looked interesting and wouldn’t set you back too much. In that regard In Pittsburgh was the find of a lifetime. I had just switched from playing in a postpunk power trio (Bastro) to making mostly drummerless respect-your-neighbors music (Gastr del Sol), and Loren’s pacing and touch and his lovely, unaffected compositions had me from the first listen. Not long after that, Jim O’Rourke and I reissued In Pittsburgh on our Dexter’s Cigar label, and I fondly remember first meeting Loren in New York’s Grand Central Station—so glamorous for this country mouse—and taking the train upstate with him where he shared a bill with Gastr del Sol. During soundcheck, Jim, Loren, and I played together for a bit and Loren’s approach to the instrument was something that one could instantly sink into, the kind of situation where there are no mistakes. I still feel that when we play together.

On Haunted Bossa Nova, Creepxotica reimagines the language of classic exotica through a darker, more cinematic lens—where swaying rhythms and lush melodies drift through shadows instead of sunlight. Creepxotica honors the lineage of the genre while pushing it into more mysterious territory, blending tropical warmth with ambient unease and cinematic depth. The result feels less like a throwback and more like a lost soundtrack—discovered, not created.

Sonically rich and meticulously arranged, the album invites deep listening. Every tone, every pause, every echo has purpose. It’s exotica for those who crave mood over kitsch, atmosphere over imitation.

Music From Memory presents 'Mood Programs – Extended Play', a two-track release by LA MARR, a new project conceived by Ron Trent. Representing the first in an ongoing series of releases on Music From Memory, ‘Mood Programs - Extended Play’ opens a new chapter within Trent’s deep and continually evolving body of work, rooted in mood-driven composition, spatial depth and the emotional resonance of sound within physical space.

Influenced by ambient and environmental music, New Age, dub traditions, New Wave, Krautrock and HiFi sound system culture, LA MARR reflects many of the formative ideas that informed Trent’s evolving approach to sound and sonic architecture from the early 1980s onward. Rather than revisiting these influences nostalgically, the project recontextualises them through a contemporary production language, balancing analog warmth with precision and spatial depth.

Developed through years of sonic experimentation and research into the physical and psychological qualities of sound, LA MARR extends Ron Trent’s long-standing interest in the relationship between rhythm, acoustics and human connection. Built through a combination of analog processes and contemporary computer-assisted production, the project explores warmth, resonance, depth and sonic clarity through carefully sculpted environments of tone and texture.

Gently unfolding within a spacious, ambient-leaning framework, 'Mood Programs – Extended Play' moves beyond passive background listening toward something more intentional and immersive. Across both tracks, ‘Good Magic’ and ‘Clear’, layers of hypnotic synthesizer arpeggios and gently floating pads gradually unfold alongside organic percussion and subtle low-end movement, creating compositions that feel simultaneously meditative, physical and emotionally responsive. Sound is treated not simply as musical information, but as an environmental force capable of shaping perception, mood and awareness within a room.

Carve is the second full-length by Bay Area artist Kathryn Mohr. Written over the course of five years and recorded over several weeks in a rural singlewide in the Mojave Desert, the album centers on love experienced as a form of grief, not as an aftermath of loss, but as a condition of intimacy itself.

Mohr describes Carve as an album about how memory exists outside the body, embedded in places and landscapes. It is shaped by her first return to the American Southwest since a childhood road trip at age five, and by the experience of moving through terrain that holds emotional weight long after its origins fade. The record considers how intimacy feels after years of isolation, and what it takes to carve out a life that allows for trust, presence, and feeling rather than mere survival. The project took form after a difficult tour that ended in Joshua Tree. Mohr pointed her car into the desert and drove alone, crisscrossing the Mojave on dirt roads. Months later, she returned to record the album, working alone with an acoustic guitar, a field recorder, and limited supplies. Following that period, Mohr began to allow for intimacy and connection. The time she spent recording Carve in the desert did not create isolation so much as mirror it. Working alone out of an old, western-themed jail Airbnb, the physical enclosure reflected the emotional conditions under which much of the record had been written: distance, restraint, and long stretches of stillness. In that context, love was not experienced as escape, but as something inseparable from impermanence and the awareness of loss.

This tension between connection and inevitability sits at the center of Carve. Some of the album’s songs were written earlier, during a prolonged period marked by emotional distance and apathy. Over those four years, Mohr was working through unprocessed childhood memories and their long-term effects on her ability to connect with others. The work was slow and difficult, involving a fundamental reshaping of how she related to herself and to the world. Carve was mixed by Richard Chowenhill of Flenser labelmates Agriculture. Rather than offering resolution, the album documents the act of remaining present within tension. Carve is not about escaping grief, but about accepting it as inseparable from love itself. Kathryn Mohr’s previous effort “Waiting Room” received the coveted ‘Best New Music' designation and a score of 8.4 from Pitchfork.

UK Balearic boss Pete Herbert has been dropping sounds inspired by his worldly travels for years and now gems from the last 20 years all make it on to this essential long player. These are all sounds for sunny spots, watery retreats and beach bliss-outs with Pete's signature touch everywhere. 'Back To Bahia' is a bubbly and loose house sound, 'Later That Night' has an edge that makes is suited to sundown dancing and 'South Seas' is a horizontal escape, while 'Legzira Sunrise' is dubby downtempo with tender chords that sink you in deep. This is the sort of record that elevates your collection with magical tunes for many different moments.

Originally released in 2004, Because Of My Dream is a quietly overlooked gem from the early-2000s Dutch underground. Produced by Amsterdam DJ and producer Angelo D’Onorio, a longtime presence in the city’s club circuit including Mazzo, Roxy and Paradiso, the record blends rolling House rhythms with analog synth textures to create a deep, late-night atmosphere.

Though it circulated among a small circle of DJs at the time, the release never reached the wider audience it deserved. Its patient grooves and dreamy progression reflect D’Onorio’s hardware-driven approach to production and the understated emotional pull of Dutch House from that era.

Two decades later, Anacalypto Records brings Because Of My Dream back into circulation, rediscovering and reintroducing this forgotten dancefloor moment for a new generation of DJs, dancers and selectors.

Second Skin is Nene H's declaration of liberated identity. Across nine tracks, Nene traces the metamorphosis from conformity to authenticity that unfolds after a breakup. They trace a step-by-step transformation: the shedding of imposed narratives and the layering of a new, liberated self. The result is a sonic diary of emancipation, where musical ideas move through noise, South West Asian modalities, trap, future bass, house, trance, minimal and deconstructed club music fusing and mutating freely. With their second album, Second Skin, Berlin-based artist Nene H deepens their commitment to radical honesty through sound. Where their debut was a tribute to their late father and a processing of personal grief, the second album turns inward toward identity, the fracturing and reassembling of the self that follows the dissolution of a long-term relationship. They carefully infuse shattered Southwest Asian motifs with their vocals. Vocals appear and disappear like traces of memory. The opening track, Where Was I, continues the story of their previous album Ali. From there, the question "where was I?" transforms into an existential inquiry. The starting point of both their personal journey and the journey of this album. After stepping through that door, the album unfolds into a deliberate balance: four deconstructed pieces and four more straightforward 4/4-driven tracks. The sibling tracks on A2-A3 and B3-B4 share the same DNA, though their destinies are not the same. Every element is placed with intention; every sound carries its own narrative thread. Each track gestures toward a different genre, a different world, yet together they form a coherent, flowing story. It's the story of closure and liberation.

The music of La lucha es un poema colectivo was conceived and composed during a long artistic residency at IRCAM in Paris in November 2023 and will be released by Superpang. ‘In November 2023, we were in residence in Paris when we found ourselves in the midst of protests and strikes by workers at the Centre Georges Pompidou. They were demanding the respect of their rights. Entering that place as outsiders, making art while hundreds of people outside risked losing their jobs, was disorienting.

This is the starting point for the title of this album, evocative yet at the same time tangible. A phrase, as often happens, borrowed from those who had, in turn, borrowed it before us, words that are not and
cannot be only ours. Words too heavy to be slaves to context or syntax, yet words that resonate within us, move us, and open rifts in our history as a group. A strange plunge, strange despite the fact that the premises were clear from the start, with well-defined lines of a unified design. And if we ask ourselves, looking around, not so much what but rather with whom we would like to share it, we imagine the music of this album within that groove, in that intangible bond that unites a collective of people who, upon reading this sentence written on a wall, in a street, pause for a moment, slow down, rest their gaze, and know they are still alive.”

For Love of Grace & the Hereafter is the sixth studio album from beloved Danish quintet Iceage. In The Eye Of The Storm was recorded live in New York on September 6th & 7th, 2025 as the soundtrack to a film celebrating Foreigner’s 50th anniversary. The album features an electric performance of the hits executed on Ellis Island, and a stunning acoustic presentation from the rooftop of Dumbo House overlooking Brooklyn Bridge which includes a very special rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water.'

DYING VICTIMS PRODUCTIONS is proud to present the long-awaited debut album of Italy’s INTO DARKNESS, Route to the Other Side, on CD and vinyl LP formats. Italy's INTODARKNESS have been a work in progress since their formation in 2011. Led by vocalist / guitarist Doomed Warrior from the very beginning, the band released a handful of demos, a couple splits, and a couple EPs during their first decade of existence. A sequel to 2011's communication from our future selves on 'The Spectacle of Light Abductions', this new endeavour by restless netherzone  traveller Spencer Clark envisions a space map towards the other side of human life.

A meditation on the paintings  of Vedran Kopljar, these two side-long pieces, recorded and performed at Kopljar's exhibition at Muhka Museum in Antwerp in 2024, tap into the barren world inhabited by Clark while wandering what he calls the "Abomination Plateaus".

Searching for meaning amidst the landscape, 'Abyssfields' turns Clark's keyboards, sampler and wha pedals into sentient beings, roaming a luminous sound field of low res percussion, glistening keys and mangled voice-like transmissions. Featuring Athens-based John Also Bennet on flute, 'Abomination Plateaus' layered misty pads hover above a recurring driving-pinging loop, unlocking new harmonic spectres throughout each passage, suspended in the light. Always enveloping. 

2026 Repress

For the better part of two decades, the acclaimed band Calexico has crossed musical barriers, embracing a multitude of styles, variety in instrumentation, and well-cultivated signature sounds. With their forthcoming record Edge of the Sun, out April 13th via City Slang, they take inspiration from a trip to a place surprisingly unexplored by the band before in Mexico City, and with the benefit of many friends and comrades to help guide the way.

Encouraged by the experience, the guest list grew to include Ben Bridwell (Band of Horses), Nick Urata (Devotchka), Carla Morrison, Gaby Moreno, Amparo Sanchez, multi-instrumentalists from the Greek band Takim, and Neko Case. Burns' brother John Burns lent a hand to some lyrics and songwriting, and the band's keyboardist, Sergio Mendoza, stepped up to co-write and arrange certain songs, ultimately co-producing the album along with Burns, John Convertino, and longtime associate Craig Schumacher.

John Hassall (The Libertines) & The April Rainers release their long overdue second, self- titled album. It's is the followup to 2017's Wheels to Idyll, which picked up critical applause on its release. The new album was largely recorded at John's home studio in Aarhus, Denmark where he has been living since 2009. And was produced by the band, with string player Clementine Brown having a big influence on the sound. John Hassall "These 10 songs are the ones that survived, grew and took on a life of their own. There's no way of telling if a song will make it until the end. That Pale Lantern in my opinion, started off as a rank outsider and then turned into one of the strongest songs on the album. Lessons were learnt from Wheels to Idyll and a new musical development runs through it. Whereas the last album was recorded pretty much live. The new album maintains similar classic songwriting and pop sensibilities, though with more complex arrangements and production." Most of the songs were cowritten by John and longtime poet collaborator Steev Burgess exploring memories of school days, journeys and adventures, fading dreams, ancient empires and even somebody's trinket collection. Burgess who has known Hassall for many years, wrote the lyrics to lead single Miracles, a sort of Ballad of John and Line. Libertines band mate Peter Doherty is also involved with a co-writing credit on Doing Time. John Hassall and The April Rainers will be announcing UK shows shortly, in the meantime John will be appearing with his other band The Libertines at summer festivals across Europe and the UK.

HUMAN ERROR CLUB is keyboardists Diego Gaeta and Jesse Justice and drummer Mekala Session. Gaeta is a jazz-trained pianist with a restless harmonic imagination. Justice honed his chops making beats before trading his MPC for a Fender Rhodes, always maintaining a producer"s ear for texture and detail. Session, raised in Los Angeles" Leimert Park, studied under the legendary drummer Billy Higgins, and also leads the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra. All hailing from different corners of LA, these longtime musician friends came together in 2019 as a solution to a recurring dilemma: good bassists are hard to find. What was originally meant to be a one-off for the underground series BackbeatLA turned into a regular thing, and soon the trio was in the studio recording what would become their debut album.

Multi-dimensional Expressionist, Maia aka Sonjia Hubert Harper is an internationally renowned vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and composer who is proficient on several musical instruments that include flute, piccolo, harp and vibraphone. As a music educator Maia specializes in vocal training for adults with developmental disabilities (Autism, Down Syndrome, etc) and school-aged children. Over the years Maia has gained notoriety as a longtime member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM of Chicago) and Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra (Horace Tapscott, Los Angeles).

60 Years celebrates six decades of of pianist and composer Horace Tapscotts radical and uplifting musical and social vision. Digging deep into the Arkestra"s archives, the album gathers breath-taking unreleased material, including previously unheard compositions, from every stage of the band"s development - from Tapscott"s earliest iterations of the group, recording at home in 1961, to the current incarnation of the band, led by the new generation of young musicians. Remastered from archival sources by the Arkestra"s longstanding engineer Wayne Peet, 60 Years is presented by The Village, a label operated by members of the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra. With archival photographs documenting the Arkestra"s history, the album arrives with liner notes featuring track-by-track commentary from Arkestra members past and present. In the words of Mekala Session, "This release is the culmination of 60 years of Black history through sound". South Central"s musical colossus is still very much awake, and 60 Years reveals the secrets of the Ark.

“WAR.POEM” was recorded at THE ROCK NOIR studio in 2025/2026 as a reaction to a piece I read on the Israeli military use of FLECHETTE SHELLS in Gaza, this led to a much deeper study of the 20th/21st century history of war. The album was composed entirely using a TAPE O MATIC 710 reel to reel from 1958, a 1960’s mayfaair JVC reel to reel, aa 1965 G.E. solid state portable reel to reel from 1965, a portable 1970’s Panasonic cassette player, a ring modulator as well as various other effects and synths.
The loop that is the basis for WAR POEM ZERO which takes up the whole of side one, happened by accident when I put a reel on the wrong way up, it produced aa sound of such great melancholy and beauty, I just let it play…
This album owes a debt to “SWANSONG” by NURSE WITH WOUND from the album “A MISSING SENSE” where experimental sound is used as an anti war protest.

You are unlikely to hear a record of such brutal intensity, or indeed authenticity as this. To call it “old school industrial” would be to do it a disservice, but also not THAT wide of the mark. It is packaged sympathetically to Chris’ previous release for the label, the long sold out LP “White Phosphorous”.
It is limited to 300 copies pressed in military grey vinyl.

Hausu Mountain co-founder Maxwell Allison returns to the label under his moniker Mukqs with an hour-long progressive ambient statement entitled Juckport. Performed live on a solitary sampler in a single take, the album shifts from warp-speed blasts of glitch to iridescent jazz fusion piano sketches to expanses of ecstatic synthesis. Allison's improvised approach to live sound collage blends innumerable layers of texture and oblique harmony into a continually thrilling electro-acoustic mosaic. Each track begins as a bank of samples sourced from Allison’s collection of synthesizers, drum machines, and field recordings, arrows pointing in a direction but without established counterpoint. Spontaneity, and the sometimes chaotic juxtapositions it engenders, undercut any traces of machine logic in the music as it expands and contracts organically. It is the product of hands moving in real space, in real time, for an extended period. Juckport is animated by a duality of glitched-out abstraction and intangible bliss. Synthesizer pads stretch beyond the imagination’s horizon line, counterbalanced by a churn of clipped samples that scatter across the stereo field like rapidfire psychedelic flashbacks. Cohesion emerges through textural continuity and development rather than repetition or pattern-making. Blink and innumerable details might slip by unnoticed, and the landscape might have shifted entirely. Still, as more viscous sounds enfold the listener, they communicate a calm, settled mindset, reflecting the motion of a creative mental state; large amounts of information are synthesized into a focused stream that reacts intuitively with the introduction of each new complicating element.

Tiki Nation finds Truckstop Tomahawk charting new territory at the outer edges of modern exotica. Created by Robert Kress—one half of Kava Kon—the album treats tiki not as nostalgia, but as a living, evolving sound world. These tracks roam freely through imagined geographies: remote islands, half-remembered myths, roadside rituals, and sun-bleached dream states where vintage exotica collides with forward-leaning composition.

Rather than simply revisiting mid-century tropes, Tiki Nation recontextualizes them—layering cinematic arrangements, unexpected textures, and playful titles that hint at folklore, travel, and quiet surrealism. The result is music that feels exploratory and unbound, equally suited for deep listening, late-night reverie, or drifting into unfamiliar landscapes with a drink in hand.

The album’s visual centerpiece deepens this atmosphere. The cover art, Pele’s Release, was painted by Catherine Robbins, a self-taught artist and longtime Hawaiʻi Island resident who created the oil painting in her rainforest studio just miles below Kīlauea’s erupting summit. That proximity to raw, elemental power mirrors the album itself—beautiful, mysterious, and quietly volatile.

Tiki Nation stands as a bold statement of intent: exotica untethered from the past, alive in the present, and pointed firmly toward uncharted horizons.
