A clerestory - a bright or "clear" level or "story" - is an upper section of wall, most often in a church punctuated by windows. It is a powerful image for grasping this luminous new music from Jules Reidy. Light casts shadows, of course, and logics of shadowing, mirroring, and distorted reflection - of key importance for Reidy"s work as a whole - inform the sumptuous surfaces of Clerestory. "Shadow Symmetric" is a string quartet commissioned and performed by the JACK Quartet as part of their JACK Studio program. The piece makes simultaneous use of two pitch sets, beginning from the same starting point but expanded using different scaling to produce what Reidy describes as "two offset spectral layers." "Clerestory Windows" offers up a distorted mirror image of the string quartet, arranged as a series of episodes that each remake the material in their own way. It begins with an arrangement of the string quartet material for MIDI strings and voices, repositioning its rigorous harmonic exploration somewhere between the Lovely Music Ltd universe and a 90s RPG soundtrack. This episode derives from Reidy"s installation Inside, Crystals and Circuitry, held in Stockholm in 2025. The piece moves into a lyrical 12-string acoustic guitar air performed at the installation opening, before the strings from the first side reappear. From this emerge flickering arpeggios, achieved by arranging the string quartet material for the RMI, an early digital synthesizer. Clerestory is a meditation on fundamental dynamics of human experience: orientation and disorientation, the hazy borders the hazy borders between the material and the spiritual, and the instability of identity.

Christophe Chassol's brilliantly-dazzling third album, crowns his trilogy of ultrascores (a method he elaborated for harmonizing, symphonizing real life, the 'here and now'), which started out in Creole-speaking New Orleans (Nola Che?rie, 2011) before pursuing its route through India (Indiamore, 2013).
In March 2014, Christophe Chassol took off for Martinique, his family's birthplace; these West Indies that epitomize everything he dreamt of expressing, from the purely personal to the perfectly panoptic. Weezer founding member and original bassist, Matt Sharp, while working on a series of “lost-albums” from the cutting room floor of his creative-life, stumbled upon a curious multi-track reel of analog tape. This mysterious reel found at the bottom of a treasure chest of other master recordings just happened to contain Weezer's very first studio sessions. These were the very same recordings that were responsible for earning the band a record contract for their iconic debut “Blue” album. These newly discovered sessions feature raw, vividly emotional and ecstatic versions of the band's timeless hit songs Say It Ain’t So and Undone (The Sweater Song.) Sharp and legendary music producer Joe Chicarrelli took these recordings to Los Angeles’ famed East/West Studios to take a deeper look into this mythic reel of 1-inch Ampex tape. What the two men quickly discovered was the original lineup (with guitarist Jason Cropper) in an infectious, explosively joyful, feral form. Making the decision to honor the original intention of the music and the traditional technology of the era, the songs were remixed from top to bottom, from tape to vinyl, in a 100% analog process.With Sharp as producer and Chicarrelli on the mix, the result of these sessions makes up the entirety of “1192” (named after the month and year it was originally recorded.) The illuminating spirit of the performances on 1192 are guaranteed to turn the world upside down for blue album fans everywhere. The works of Kansanturvamusiikkikomissio, the predecessor of Radiopuhelimet, reissued on vinyl in September Kansanturvamusiikkikomissio—better known as KTMK—was a hardcore punk band from Oulu, founded in the fall of 1983 by guitarist Jarno Mällinen, drummer Jyrki Raatikainen, bassist Pekka Salonsaari, and vocalist Antti Penttilä. The band managed to only play a handful of shows before their first five songs were released in the fall of 1984 on the praised Finnish Hardcore compilation Yalta Hi-Life, released by Barabbas Records. After the 1985 debut album 666, internal conflicts within the band began to drive Kansanturvamusiikkikomissio into a dead end, which was resolved by bringing in Jukka Kangas as the second guitarist. Spurred by this renewed enthusiasm, KTMK recorded a six-song EP titled Seitsemäs pasuuna in early 1986 for Dekadenz’s Fuck label, featuring the underground hits Jeesus oli venäläinen kantoraketti and Boogie-mies. Now reissued for the first time ever, the EP includes five KTMK tracks originally released on the Yalta Hi-Life compilation as bonus material. The band’s final concert took place at Mimmiteekki in Muhos, Finland on March 1st, 1986. Just a few weeks later, Mällinen, Raatikainen, and Kangas formed Radiopuhelimet, who have also played some concerts consisting entirely of KTMK songs during their career. One of these shows took place on February 18th, 2006, at the Vastavirta club in Tampere, Finland and was later released on DVD that same year under the title Radiopuhelimet Plays Kansanturvamusiikkikomissio.

Mit “His Majesty King Funk”, seinem einzigen Album für Verve Records, schuf der Gitarrist Grant Green im
Mai 1965 einen absoluten Klassiker des Soul-Jazz. Zugleich war es das fünfte und letzte Album, auf dem
er mit dem aufregenden Hammond-Organisten Larry Young zusammenarbeitete. Einer der Höhepunkte ist
das von Green komponierte Stück “The Selma March”, das ein musikalischer Kommentar zu den Märschen
der US-amerikanischen Bürgerrechtsbewegung war, die zwei Monate zuvor Schlagzeilen gemacht hatten.
“Greens ‘His Majesty King Funk’ trägt seinen Namen zu Recht”. schrieb John Heidt 2007 im Magazin
Vintage Guitar über das Album. “Bei fünf Stücken voller soulgetränktem Jazz wird schnell klar, warum er
der Liebling der Acid-Jazz-Bewegung ist. Sein Spiel zeichnete sich durch eine Bodenständigkeit aus, die
man bei vielen anderen Jazzgitarristen vermisst, und dieses Album lässt diese besonders gut zur Geltung
kommen.”

Das im Oktober 1957 aufgenommene Album “Sonny Clark Trio” sticht aus zweierlei Gründen aus der
Blue-Note-Diskografie des Pianisten Sonny Clark (1931-1963) heraus. Einerseits, weil er sich nicht wie
auf seinen anderen Alben für das Label mit einem Quintett oder Sextett präsentierte, sondern im Trio mit
dem Bassisten Paul Chambers und dem Schlagzeuger Philly Joe Jones. Zum anderen, weil er darauf keine
Eigenkompositionen spielte, sondern auf subtile Weise erstmals ausschließlich Standards aus dem Great
American Songbook und Werke führender Jazzkomponisten jener Zeit interpretierte. Das Album kam bei
den Fans und Kritikern so gut an, dass Clark im Dezember 1957 und im November 1958 nach demselben Muster mit zwei anderen Trio-Besetzungen zusammenarbeitete. Aus unerfindlichen Gründen sollten
diese Aufnahmen jedoch erst lange nach Clarks Tod veröffentlicht werden - und zunächst auch nur in Japan.
Nun erscheinen die kompletten Aufnahmen zusammen mit alternativen Takes des Albums “Sonny Clark
Trio” auf einer Doppel-LP innerhalb der audiophilen Blue-Note-Tone-Poet-Serie unter dem Titel “The Art
of the Trio”. Die Veröffentlichung kommt in einer luxuriösen Tip-On-Gatefold-Hülle daher und enthält ein

Life Creates Itself is the new album by Bill Baird, releasing September 25th, 2026 on Royal Oakie Records. After years of restless wandering that took him from the Bay Area to India to Abbey Road and back again, Baird has returned home to San Antonio, Texas. Inspired by Lone Star legends Doug Sahm and Roky Erickson, the album inhabits a world where outsider country, avant-garde pop, and psychedelic folk dissolve into one.


Produced by longtime collaborator Jasper Leach (Tony Molina, Color Green) and mastered by indie-rock legend KRAMER (Galaxie 500, Daniel Johnston, Will Oldham), Life Creates Itself was recorded at Sear Sound in New York City in a single remarkable day — fitting for an album as indebted to Arthur Russell and Captain Beefheart as it is to Sir Douglas Quintet and Townes Van Zandt. The sessions brought together a constellation of collaborators around Baird and Leach, including Pedrum Siadatian (Allah-Las, PAINT), Phil Carluzzo, Austin Day, Oliver O'Haver, Jordan Johns, Michael Vattuone, Clara Kennedy, and Carluzzo’s dog Ernie.


Lead single "Yanaguana" — the original Payaya name for San Antonio, meaning either "land of many waters" or simply "where I am right now" — serves as a thesis statement for the album, a restless soul reckoning with what it means to finally come home. Meanwhile, "Karma Loan" is a fuzzy, sprawling psych track that spilled out of Baird during a deep immersion in Bach that features cello by Clara Kennedy and closes with a sound collage of spiritual gurus hawking easy paths to enlightenment. Then there's "Horse Moon" — built around pedal steel that shimmers like rays of moonlight, drifting through vignettes from a late night walk across New York City, with Pedrum Siadatian's lead guitar lending the whole thing an unhurried, dreaming quality. The night they tracked it, Baird climbed to the roof of Sear Sound and watched a full moon wash the city in a warm glow.


Baird has never sounded more at home, and Life Creates Itself may be his most cohesive record yet – a songwriter record through and through that stands apart from the rest of his discography. The word ‘Tystnad’ – literally translated – means silence. In this case, the Silence is less that of zen buddhism or that of John Cage, rather the name of the studio where Flowers Must Die – carriers of the torch of Swedish psychedelia for now nearly 20 years – retreated to make their most head-expanding album to date. Located near the Norwegian border in the verdant rural Värmland region, Silence Studios has been a countercultural hub for decades, attaining a legendary status as a residential outpost where bands can retreat to stretch out creatively and focus their psychic powers.
From just such origins, Flowers Must Die have crafted a collection of expansive and incandescent jams that maps out a lysergic trajectory between the idealistic, anything-goes mania of early ‘70s psychedelia and the 21st century. Tystnad is the sound of a band buoyed by the afterglow of their last Rocket release, 2017’s Kompost and its attendant touring, and expanding into extrapolations that marry the wildest free improv with haunting melody.
If Tystnad, as the band claim, is to be their last recording made in one room at the same time, then it displays a formidable escape velocity. Who’s to say whether Flowers Must Die have tapped into a Swedish continuum, one including the like of Pärson Sound, Dungen or Goat. Burns with brothers Brian and Ewan Mcfie at Glasgow School of Art in the early 1980s. Drawing comparisons to Simple Minds, U2 and R.E.M, their post-punk sound attracted attention from John Peel who aired their single Too Late in 1984. The band signed to A&M and released Real Surprise in 1985 which became a BBC Radio 1 Single of the Week. However, like many bands of the time, their recording deal collapsed. For decades, all that remained were those two singles and a box of unreleased demos. During lockdown, the band revisited the tapes, finally bringing a remarkable lost chapter of Scottish post- punk back to life. In 2025 the band decamped to Beetroot Studios in Airdrie with producer Stuart MacLeod to work on new material. Rhythm of Lies is released by Last Night From Glasgow on blue vinyl and CD. Drawing from psychedelia, alternative R&B, leftfield electronic music and lo-fi indie songcraft, the album weaves together guitars, synthesizers, layered vocal arrangements and groove driven rhythms into a richly detailed collection of songs. Bringing together different facets of the band's sound into a cohesive body of work, the album reflects a decade of musical exploration while further developing Garden City Movement's distinctive musical language.

Garden City Movement are the duo of Roy Avital and Johnny Sharoni. Over the past decade, they have built an international audience through a distinctive blend of dream pop, electronic music and immersive production. Their releases have received support from Pitchfork, The FADER, Clash, Stereogum and KCRW, while their music has appeared in FIFA 22 and major television productions. Alongside extensive international touring, the band has performed at festivals including Glastonbury, Primavera Sound, Pukkelpop and Lollapalooza India, and shared stages with artists such as Alt J, RÜFÜS DU SOL, SOHN and Cults.

A powerful new track arrives on 7-inch, marking a collaboration between MAJOR FORCE PRODUCTIONS and DJ KRUSH, featuring the gentle, soothing vocals of guest singer Kyoko Koizumi.

This joint production by MAJOR FORCE PRODUCTIONS-comprised of K.U.D.O and Kan Takagi, two key figures who have helped shape Japan’s music scene-and the internationally acclaimed DJ KRUSH results in a single that vividly captures everyday scenes and the deeper layers of human emotion through diverse beats and floating electronic textures.

Conceived as a sequel to Kan Takagi’s 1997 release “LOVE THEME,” the track unfolds with a memorable melody expressing a sincere longing for love and freedom. Refined yet warm, it stands as a timeless piece of electric folk blues.

Astrocyrk (Astrocircus) is the next chapter in a story that began in 2123, when Captain Harrison Focus, after an emergency landing, finds himself on the mysterious planet Carmin. Following the events described in the previous album, the main character – Triceradiplodocus – leaves the planet's surface, following Ropuch’s instructions. However, the light on the horizon turns out to be the beginning of a new nightmare, and the dinosaur is trapped in the Astrocyrk. Under Klown’s guidance, he begins exploring this dark place. Only the finale reveals the true history of the Astrocyrk and
surprisingly intertwines Triceradiplodocus's fate with events from years past and the character of Captain Harrison Focus.

Musically, the album develops Twoosty Mayonez's distinctive style – one that focuses on improvisation and cinematic storytelling. Each composition represents a new chapter in the story, creating a cohesive musical journey through the world of Astrocyrk. Subsequent tracks lead the listener through the ship's dark attractions.

The new album is a natural continuation of the story from planet Carmin, while also opening a completely new chapter in the Twoosty Mayonnaise universe – one that is bigger, darker, and even more unpredictable.
The album features guest appearances by Szymon Białorucki (oud), Marek Konarski (sax), and Bartłomiej “Eskaubei” Skubisz (rap). The recordings were made at the Twoosty Room studio in Warsaw by the band's drummer.

Nachdem man mit dem Vorgängeralbum "Holocene" einen anderen Weg eingeschlagen hatte, zeichnet für den weitläufigen, organischen Klang von "Solaris" erneut der schwedische Produzent Jens Bogren verantwortlich, der bereits die beliebtesten Alben der Band - "Pelagial" sowie "Phanerozoic I" & "II" - gemischt hat. Das neue Album stellt die Sänger*innen Lane Shi und Enrico Tiberi sowie die Gitarristen Emmanuel Jessua und Marco Gennaro vor. One more year and our annual compilation 'Hate & Tenderness' is back. This time in its fifth edition, where we have agreed a group with some of our favorite artists from the last years to create a wonderful compilation full of love.

Being faithful to our philosophy based on contrasts, legendary artists such as DJ Shufflemaster, Truncate or DJ Dextro join youngsters such as Gene Richards Jr, Phil Berg, Mathys Lenne, Kashpitzky, Nicolas Vogler or Damian Vargas to name a few, all of them accompanied by the label heads Fixon & Dig-It, to leave a release that moves us indescribably and that we want to share with everyone!

The late sixties and early seventies spectacle of Jamaican Deejays taking their live performances out of the dance halls and translating them into hit records, not only marked the beginning of forty years of dance hall driven music on the island but also provided the original inspiration and template for the global dominance of rap and hip hop.
The art of deejay was now rightly recognised and the toasters or talk over artists advanced from introductions and interjections to stringing complete sets of lyrics together and riding the rhythm for the entire length of the song.
Deejays including U Roy, I Roy, Dennis Alcapone, Big Joe ,Little Joe and Prince Jazzbo who built their reputations working live on sound systems,now went one step beyond and moved on to become recording deejays with entire catalogues of hit singles and albums to their credit.
Throughout the seventies a whole host of mic men followed in their wake including Dillinger,Dr.Alimando,Clint Eastwood and Jah Stitch.
Talking records were not new, but 'talk over' records were...the repercussions of this uniquely Jamaican phenomenon would go on to reverberate worldwide...

For his debut on Hard Times Records, Manchester's FLETCH delivers 'Lift Me Up’ - a four-track EP rooted in rolling grooves, warm musicality and a refined dancefloor energy.

The release follows a busy run for FLETCH, with releases on Circoloco, Three Six Zero, MVSON and ANOTR's No Art, where his Play House EP reached the top of the download charts. His connection with Hard Times began behind the decks at the label's sold-out Miami Winter Music Conference showcase, where a shared appreciation for the music soon developed into plans for a release.

"After playing for the Hard Times crew in Miami, I told them how I'd been a fan of the label for years and that i’d love to release something with them one day," says FLETCH. "I sent over some tracks that I felt were a natural fit and the guys signed them on the spot. The rest, as they say, is history!"

The title track sets the tone for the EP with rolling drums, elastic basslines and understated vocal hooks, while 'Stand Up’ leans into swung percussion and classic chord stabs. On the B-side, 'Touch Me' shifts into deeper territory with stripped-back, late-night groove, before '1000 Years' closes the EP with dusty scratches, crisp hats and an understated sense of drive.

Since its digital release, lead track "Lift You Up" has received strong support on BBC R1, plus heavy DJ support from the likes of TSHA, Hilit Kolet, Laurent Garnier, Jamie Jones, Groove Armada, Riva Starr, and more.

FLETCH's sound continues to evolve while remaining firmly rooted in the traditions of house, making 'Lift Me Up' the perfect debut on Hard Times.

The next chapter on Skip Audio arrives with S.O.N. at the controls, presenting three original productions that move between hypnotic rhythms, rolling basslines, and immersive atmospheres. On remix duties, Romanian heavyweight Sublee reshapes one of the originals into a deep and elegant dancefloor journey. A carefully curated collection of four trippy, groove-driven tracks made for long nights and discerning selectors.

On this new album, the trio of Sanem Kalfa, George Dumitriu, and Joachim Badenhorst invites you on a poetic and sonic voyage. While their debut Black Sea Songs (2021) drew from traditional folk melodies, this work is a collection of original compositions and one improvisation, inspired by the rich cultures and emotions surrounding the Black Sea.

The music of this trio is elegant yet adventurous, blending jazz, improvisation, world traditions, and contemporary classical influences. Kalfa's distinctive voice and cello, Dumitriu's versatile viola and guitar, and Badenhorst's expressive clarinet and occasional vocals create a unique, dreamlike atmosphere. Quiet Village drop a version of Barry Reynolds' 'Till The Doctor Gets Back' with a remix from Mad Professor. The duo's latest release for their eponymous imprint is a love letter to the early-80s sound of Island Records.

Joel Martin and Matt 'Radio Slave' Edwards' Quiet Village project is back on their The Quiet Village imprint on July 10th with 'Till The Doctor Gets Back', a characteristically spaced-out cover of Barry Reynolds which features their first ever commissioned remix, having tapped Mad Professor.

Recorded in 2024, Quiet Village's 'Till The Doctor Gets Back' evokes the spirit of the 1982 original, a release born out of a period when reggae, dub, pop, rock and dance music were colliding. QV's version is exactly what the duo have been known for since their beginnings in 2005; unhurried, immersive and utterly compelling. With reverb and delays firmly on the 'dub' bus, the track is shot through rich synths, glorious overlapping melodies and a fresh vocal interpretation. Mad Professor's dub slow burns, doubles down on the dub aesthetics and embraces the source material wholly, resulting in a cosseting yet invigorating listen.

It all started with a small party in 2006. Peter Invasion simply wanted to create a home for his band. That small party grew into something bigger, and eventually Riotvan became a record label in 2012 — a home for many different people, all brought together by a shared love for music and art. When Panthera Krause joined the journey in 2017, Riotvan evolved once again, adding a new perspective and another creative force to what it had become. The journey began 240 months ago — or, for those too lazy to do the math, 20 years. A lot has happened since then, but one thing has never changed: the passion. People have come, gone, and stayed. And here we are, celebrating 240 months of Riotvan with our friends, our loved ones, and ourselves. To mark the occasion, we're hitting the road on tour and have put together an extended edition of our Familiar Faces series. It's a colorful collection of music that brings together everything we love and everything that makes sense to us. It couldn't represent the Riotvan spirit any better. We'll definitely see each other somewhere along the way. Here's to the next 240 months.
