AOP007 sees the return of Ukraine’s Artist Vladimir Gnatenko. On two of the tracks he collaborates with his friend Kai Noob , leaning on the more experimental side of things. The other two tracks, which are Vladimir’s solo work, are for the floor. Also returning to AOP is Warpque delivering another stunning cover for us.

'Kizaki Ondo' is a folk song from Nitta Kizaki town in Gunma, north of Tokyo. Played annually by local performers at the Bon-Odori traditional summer dance festival, it features unabashed lyrics about prostitution along with a rhythmic drive sure to appeal to fans of contemporary electronic genres as well as aficionados of traditional musics. The first track is a wildly echoing vocal version recorded in 1980, redolent of humid summer nights; the second track, recorded in 1981, is an instrumental version, both by the Kizaki Ondo Preservation Society. The other two tracks are extensions of tradition, with Tokyo-based producer Clark Naito's 2018 revisions of 'Kizaki Ondo', providing trap-inspired interpretations, with a vocal version using the original lyrics, along with a sweet instrumental take. This release, the third edition of the EM Records Japanese folklore series, directed by Riyo Mountains, is available on LP & CD, with English lyrics and notes, and rare photos. composer, particularly remembered for his collaborations and solo
exchanges with fellow trombonist JJ Johnson
Fans of their classic album 'The Great Kai & JJ' (Impulse!) will welcome 'Duo Bones'
with Kai trading solos with renowned Italian valve trombonist Dino Piana (1930 -
2023). The programme includes three original compositions by Kai, 'Duo Bones', 'Lady
H', and 'Stop Following Me', and one by Piana aptly titled, Kai & Dino. The rest of the
programme includes Cole Porter's 'Get Out Of Town', Bronislawl Kaper's 'On Green
Dolphin Street', Gorden Jenkin's 'This Is All I Ask', and an original composition by
producer Enrico Pieranunzi titled 'Soul Dance'.

Die allererste Veröffentlichung von Impulse! Records (mit der Katalognummer A-1) gilt als eine der besten
Aufnahmen von Kai Winding und J.J. Johnson. Die beiden Posaunisten hatten erstmals 1949 bei Sessions
für das Album “Trombone By Three” miteinander gespielt und nahmen danach bis 1956 zusammen noch
neun weitere Alben auf. Creed Taylor, der bereits 1955 ein Album der beiden für Bethlehem Records produziert hatte, stellte ihnen 1960 für “The Great Kai And J.J.” eine besonders hochkarätige Rhythmusgruppe
zur Seite, mit keinem Geringeren als Bill Evans am Piano.

With his Electric Blues All-Stars, Kai Strauss has made a name for himself all over Europe with dynamic, driving live shows and award-winning CDs, featuring an individual style that’s based on the urban blues tradition, but taking in big chunks of soulful and funky grooves. And this band knows how to rock the house!
For “Wailin’ In Vienna”, Kai has realized his long-standing plan to record an old-school blues album, going back to his roots and beyond. And the results are nothing short of spectacular, with 15 self-composed songs that cover lot of traditional ground: swinging R&B, 50’s Chicago blues, instrumental shuffles, even some bluesy jazz, a minor-key cha-cha and a tribute to Bill Doggett and his guitarist Billy Butler.
Although the shadows of T-Bone, the three Kings and others loom large over the proceedings, Kai Strauss never fails being his own man. Of course it helps when you can realize such a project with a team comprising some of the best players in this style: Dani Gugolz and Peter Müller have been a steadily swinging rhythm team for 35 years. Pianists Dave Ruosch and Andreas Sobczyk combine tasteful chordal work with cascading treble runs. Sax Gordon has been a first-call R&B horn man for decades. Gerry Lülik’s is one of Austria’s foremost bluesharp players. Pianist Christian Dozzler, who came up in Vienna but has long made his home in Texas, can be heard with the likes of Anson Funderburgh when not doing his own thing. Finally, the two guitar greats heard alongside Kai hardly need much introduction: Rusty Zinn and Alex Schultz have been among the top tier of traditional blues string-benders since the 1990’s. Here, they are mostly heard in a supporting role for their friend and colleague, but ready to step out in style when called upon.

People Of Earth strides into the New Year with a new project called The Elements Series. Part one welcomes some serious names, not least Detroit's ambient and techno master John Beltran who kicks off with 'Nuyorico' a joyous, chord-laced house groove laden with organic percussion. Javonntte's 'Tropical Feelings' is another of his textbook deep house cuts with whispered vocals bringing a spiritual vibe. Atlanta's main man Kai Alce does his do with the jazzy synth energy of shuffling house cut 'Benefit' (NDATL instrumental mix) then Byron The Aquarius pairs things back to dusty drums and humid chords on 'Sun Gods'. This one is only for the real heads.

Destroyer ist das dritte Solowerk von DOWNFALL OF GAIAS Peter Wolff. Dieses Mal schließt er sich mit dem niederländischen Folksänger Jens Boogaard von Knifefight und dem Filmemacher Kai Lietzke zusammen, der bereits mit Peter am letzten Albumfilm ,Breath" zusammengearbeitet hat. Der Drang, zu vergessen, irgendwo anders als hierher zu fliehen und irgend jemand anderem außer sich selbst die Schuld zu geben. Das Album erzählt die Geschichte eines schweren Autounfalles, den Jens Borgaard mit ansehen musste, aus den Augen des Verursachers. ,Was als reines Instrumentalprojekt begann, entwickelte sich durch die Hinzufügung von Gesang zu einer persönlichen Erzählung", so Wolff über das Album. ,Destroyer" ist eine Platte, die die düsteren Ambient-Klanglandschaften von Peter Wolff mit der tiefen, warmen Stimme von Jens Borgaard und der unglaublichen Filmarbeit von Kai Lietzke kombiniert, der für das Album wiederum einen kompletten Film produziert hat. Die Kombination des traditionellen Folk-Hintergrunds von Jens Borgaard mit Peter Wolffs Affinität zu düsterer elektronischer Musik sowie mit seinen Post-Metal/Crust-Core Einflüssen erzeugen eine hypnotisierende, einschüchternde Klanglandschaft. The coupling of star trombonist Kai Winding with some of the best country & western songs, old and new is a great combination; Winding is one of the most melodic trombonists in jazz history. Winding and producer Creed Taylor recorded the album in Nashville, including greats like “I Walk The Line” and “Busted.” This Verve By Request title is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Third Man in Detroit.

Kai Alce's faultless NDATL label brings us more goodies direct from his base in Atlanta, which might be best known for its rap but also packs a punch when it comes to house music.

This one is from Rasheeda Ali, a new name that might be familiar to anyone who heard Kai's 'Sheed's Move' tune from a previous EP. She has also been on stage with none other than Jeff Mills and here her flute skills come to the fore with production from Kai.

'Libra Ascending' has a snappy bounce, then 'Sheed's Rising' showcases Rasheeda's gymnastic flautist abilities. A fine debut.
