Wenn Sie das ungute Gefühl hatten, dass 2025 irgendwie das Jahr von Thee Headcoatees werden würde, dann klatschen Sie sich selbst herzlich ab - denn überraschenderweise ist es tatsächlich so! Wir können indirekt den Tod unseres lieben verstorbenen Great Ribbon, Mr. Don Craine, dafür verantwortlich machen, dass Thee Headcoats 2022 ein Comeback feierten. Ursprünglich hatten sie geplant nur eine Tribute-EP als Thee Headcoats Sect aufzunehmen - zusammen mit Dons Downliner Sect-Kollegen Keith Grant Evans - aber dann stellten sie fest, dass sie noch ein paar Stunden Zeit im Studio hatten, und dachten sich, dass sie genauso gut auch ein neues Headcoats-Album aufnehmen könnten. Und warum auch nicht? Das Ergebnis war, ohne viel Aufhebens, das Album "Irregularis (The Great Hiatus)", das 2023 bei Damaged Goods erschien. Ende 2024, noch bevor man ein Deerstalker-Band entwirren konnte, waren die Jungs schon wieder am Werk, und eine weitere neue Headcoats-LP war ,im Kasten", deren Veröffentlichung ursprünglich für Anfang dieses Jahres geplant war. ABER dann kam irgendwo jemand auf die Idee: ,Warum sollten nur die Jungs den ganzen Spaß haben? Wie wäre es, wenn wir auch den Sisters of Suave, Thee Headcoatees, eine Chance geben?" Mit allen ihnen zur Verfügung stehender männlichen List und Tücke schalteten Thee Headcoats und Damaged Goods ihre Charmeoffensive ein. Mit purer Entschlossenheit und Hartnäckigkeit wurden Ludella Black, Kyra LaRubia, Bongo Debbie und Holly Golightly nacheinander aus ihren Verstecken gezerrt, wo sie sich lautstark wehrten (was sie am besten können), um die 14 Killer-Songs aufzunehmen, die auf ihrem neuesten Album mit dem raffinierten Titel ,Man-Trap" zu finden sind. Das war keine Kleinigkeit! Anfang 2025 wurde also eine Aufnahmesession in den renommierten Ranscombe Studios in Rochester gebucht, Gin und Snacks wurden vorbereitet, und im Handumdrehen waren die Backing Tracks im Kasten - Thee Headcoats wieder zurück als die beste Backing-Band und Thee Headcoatees zurück am Gesang. Billy Childish übernahm die Produktion. Unbeeindruckt von einigen geografischen Hindernissen auf dem Weg dorthin war Ende Mai das Ergebnis ein glänzendes neues Headcoatees-Album! UND WAS FÜR EIN ALBUM! Es ist mindestens genauso gut wie alle ihre Alben aus den Neunzigern und vielleicht sogar noch besser... (,Ja-a-a-a!", flüstert der Geist von Don Craine.) Diese Mischung aus großartigen Coverversionen und einigen fantastischen neuen Songs ergeben eine verdammt gute LP. Betreten Sie "Man-Trap" auf eigene Gefahr - Sie wissen, dass Sie es wollen! Und falls Sie sich fragen, wie die Mädchen ihre Zeit seit der Veröffentlichung von ,Here Comes Cessation" im Jahr 1999, also vor nur 26 Jahren (!), verbracht haben, lesen Sie weiter... LUDELLA BLACK hat drei Soloalben sowie Veröffentlichungen mit The Masonics vorzuweisen und gerade erst mit The 5,6,7,8's aufgenommen. Nebenbei sang sie auch mit The Shall-I-Say Quois, zusammen mit ihrer Freundin Kyra. KYRA LaRUBIA war Anfang der 2000er Jahre kurzzeitig bei The A-Lines neben Bongo Debbie & Nurse Julie (von Stuck-Ups / Buffets / CTMF) und arbeitete an einer Neuauflage ihres Albums ,Here I Am, I Always Am". Die Musik trat dann in den Hintergrund, während Kyra sich auf ihre Promotion in Sport- und Bewegungswissenschaften konzentrierte. Seit 2005 ist sie Dozentin an der University of Kent. BONGO DEBBIE hat weiterhin in einigen Bands getrommelt. Sie ist Mitglied von Ye Nuns (The Monks Tribute Band), The A-Lines, Dutronc und hat kürzlich unter anderem für die Sting-Rays ausgeholfen. HOLLY GOLIGHTLY hat seit 1999 neun Soloalben veröffentlicht, sechs davon mit Lawyer Dave in The Brokeoffs, sang ein Duett mit Jack White auf dem Album ,Elephant" von The White Stripes und tourte um die Welt.

After establishing himself as one of Europe's most distinctive voices in instrumental hip-hop, Mr. Käfer is ready to tell a different story. His third solo album, A Past Sense, arriving via Melting Pot Music on 11th November, shows a bold creative evolution from his signature lo-fi aesthetic into lush, collaborative territory that spans continents and genres.

His sixth project for Melting Pot Music marks a creative leap from the mood-driven, jazz-tinged instrumentals that built his reputation on releases like Lost Reflections (2019), Orientation (2020), and Now/Again I and II (2021, 2023). Now he's orchestrating a 14-track journey that weaves together hip-hop, soul, jazz, and North African rhythms through collaborations with carefully selected artists including Novine (GER), J-Tek (US), Kenji (US) and Cloudhead (AT).
Thematically, the album explores how memory reshapes identity, questioning the gap between who we were and who we've become. Founded in early 1995, Grow! quickly established itself as a key player in the underground house music scene. The label was created by Christian Mahringer (aka Jeremiah) along with Michael Peter (Duke) and Martin Retschitzegger (Tin). Together, they released a steady stream of 12" records, often under various pseudonyms, focusing entirely on the music rather than individual profiles.

While Grow! remained their main creative outlet, the founders were also active beyond the label: Mahringer released music on Chez Damier’s Balance Alliance and the renowned Chicago label Guidance, while Peter and Retschitzegger collaborated on records for Daniel Bell’s 7th City and Robert Hood’s influential M-Plant label, and also launched their own imprint, Central.

This new compilation presents a first carefully curated selection of the most notable tracks from the label’s catalog, alongside previously unreleased versions. All tracks were edited and remastered from the original tape recordings. It offers a deep dive into the raw, analog-driven sound that defined Grow!’s identity.

With its consistent focus on quality, anonymity, and artistic integrity, Grow! Records has left a lasting impression far beyond Austria’s borders. This release is both a celebration and a rediscovery of one of the country’s most respected underground imprints.

PAUL DIMMER BAND - IM KLEINEN KREIS (LIMITED VINYL EDITION) Das Debütalbum der Paul Dimmer Band Im kleinen Kreis erscheint erstmals auf Vinyl - in einer streng limitierten Auflage. Bereits bei seiner ursprünglichen Veröffentlichung wurde das Album im kleinen Kreis gefeiert und entwickelte sich schnell zum Geheimtipp unter Liebhabern ruhiger, tiefgründiger Musik. Musikalisch bewegte sich das Trio aus Frankfurt am Main in stillen Gewässern - vergleichbar mit amerikanischen Indie-Bands wie Sparklehorse oder Low. In schlichten Arrangements und mit zurückhaltendem Gestus erzählten die Songs von den Höhen, Tiefen und Zwischenräumen des Lebens. Four years on from their landmark Grassroots, visionary half-time heavyweights The Untouchables return with their third album, Lost Knowledge. Lost Knowledge launches into action instantly with the high-pressure drum science and dubby splashes of 'Drunken Bells', capturing the loopy techno propulsion and rolling intensity that drives so much of the output on Samurai Music. Where The Untouchables excel is in finding variety and nuance in their relatively forbidding, pared down sound. 'Busy Bones' makes space for carefully deployed hints of pad tone while the snares snap out of the mix with a sharp set of teeth. 'Four Eared Demon' baits the gabber crowd with its rapid-fire 4/4 hats atop seasick creaks across the midrange, keeping subtlety and patience in the lower frequencies to maintain the signature elegance readily associated with The Untouchables. 'Phase Correlation' teases an artfully unhinged ripple of synth that stands out amongst the murky murmurs filling out the middle distance, but it's still exercised with brutal precision.

Nothing happens by accident or feels out of place - McGill and Steyns are in total control, and they demonstrate incredible range and inventive approaches within their focused style. The accent of the grooves shifts, and individual sounds carry all kinds of artefacts, yet everything gets folded into the exacting Untouchables sound with a liberal dubwise sensibility. Kronstad 23 was formed in Kronstad, Bergen, Norway in the Autumn of 2023. As old friends and musical collaborators, they rekindled a creative spark that had been dormant for over 10 years. Rarely rehearsed and often caught on first take, Sommermørket was recorded live on tape in the studio of Keyboardist Øyvind Vie Berg in Bergen, Norway. The record captures three sessions across one year, from spring and late summer in 2024 to winter of 2025.

Backyard Babies was formed in 1987 in Nässjö and can by rights be called Sweden’s most influential glam punk act. Between 1994 and 2019
they released eight studio albums of which both Making Enemies Is Good and Stockholm Syndrome won them a Swedish Grammy.

In 2005 they released their only live album, recorded at La Maroquinerie on May 6 2004, and features blistering, turbocharged renditions
of album hits such as "Minus Celsius", "Earn the Crown", and "Brand New Hate". The chops of guitarist Dregen (of The Hellacopters fame)
propel the whole thing forward with reckless abandon while singer Nicke Borg keeps riling up the crowd in between songs,

Mit Gala veröffentlichten Lush 1990 ihr erstes Kompilationsalbum - eine Zusammenstellung der frühen EPs Scar (1989), Mad Love (1990) und Sweetness and Light (1990), ergänzt durch zwei exklusive Stücke: eine Coverversion von ABBAs "Hey Hey Helen" sowie den erweiterten Robin Guthrie-Mix von "Scarlet". Das Wort ,tween" klingt irgendwie nach einer bestimmten Art von Unbeholfenheit, und das ist meistens nicht so positiv. Aber sieh es mal so: Etwas ,tween" ist dabei, sich zu etwas anderem zu entwickeln, und dieser Entwicklungsprozess hat seine ganz eigene Schönheit. Es ist irgendwie cool, das zu erkennen und zu feiern - sich darauf einzulassen. Jenn Wasner und Andy Stack - die beiden Hälften der Band - haben diese Songs als ,keinen Schritt nach vorne, sondern einen Schritt zur Seite in der Zeit" beschrieben. Mit anderen Worten: Sie passten einfach nicht zum fünften Album. Aber nur weil sie nicht dorthin passten, heißt das nicht, dass sie nirgendwo hingehören. Sie in Shriek zu zwängen, wäre unehrlich gewesen; sie zu verwaisten, wäre irgendwo zwischen kriminell und einfach nur albern gewesen. Tween ist voller wunderschöner Wye Oak-Songs, deren einziges Vergehen das Timing und der Kontext waren, gemacht von zwei Leuten auf dem Höhepunkt ihres Schaffens. In einem Moment umarmen Jenn und Andy ihren schwebendsten Cocteau-Twins-Instinkt (,If You Should See"), im nächsten sind sie wieder ein bisschen im Civilian-Territorium (,No Dreaming") und später sind sie geschmeidig und elektronisch und wunderschön 80er-mäßig (,On Luxury"). Der rote Faden: Das sind keine Ausgestoßenen oder Ausschnitte. Tatsächlich könnte Tween sogar leichter zugänglich sein als Shriek. Es sollte in die Riege der großartigen Nicht-Alben der Geschichte aufgenommen werden, deren Namen versuchen, ihre tatsächliche Qualität herunterzuspielen, wie R.E.M.s Dead Letter Office, The Whos Odds and Sods und vielleicht sogar Dinosaur Jr.s Whatever's Cool With Me.

Frank Sinatras legendäres Balladen-Album “In The Wee Small Hours“ von 1955, ein ikonisches Werk, das
dieses Jahr sein 70. Jubiläum feiert.
Obwohl das Album schon viele Male auf LP und CD veröffentlicht wurde, dürfen die Hörer sich auf eine
Überraschung einstellen. Joe Harley, der „Tone Poet“ schwärmt: „Der Unterschied in der Wiedergabetreue
ist umwerfend. Der Klang ist erstaunlich… Frank ist quasi mit dem Hörer zusammen im Raum. Es ist, als
hätte sich ein Schleier gelüftet“.
Wie bei der Serie üblich wurden alle Produktionsschritte von Joe Harley persönlich überwacht, Kevin Gray
hat bei Cohearent Audio von den analogen Bändern gemastert, das Ergebnis wurde bei Record Technology
Inc. (RTI) auf 180-g-Vinyl gepresst und erscheint in einer luxuriösen Gatefold-Hülle mit Session-Fotos von
William Claxton und Ken Veeder sowie einem Essay von Rita Kirwan.

„What Separates Me From You”, das erfolgreiche vierte Studioalbum von A Day to Remember, kehrt als
limitierte 15-jährige Jubiläumsausgabe auf Vinyl zurück.
Mit Klassikern wie „All I Want” und „All Signs Point to Lauderdale” markierte dieses genreübergreifende
Album eine bedeutende klangliche und inhaltliche Weiterentwicklung der Band aus Ocala, Florida. Während
sie ihre charakteristische Mischung aus Metalcore und Pop-Punk beibehielten, wurden auf dem Album dunklere und ernstere Themen als auf ihren früheren Werken behandelt. Nach seiner Erstveröffentlichung im
Jahr 2010 erreichte „What Separates Me From You“ Platz 11 der Billboard 200 und führte unter anderem
die Top-Hardrock-Albumcharts an. 2016 wurde es von der RIAA mit Gold ausgezeichnet.
Diese besondere Edition von „What Separates Me From You“ wurde auf Coke Bottle Clear Vinyl gepresst und enthält ein einzigartiges Jubiläums-Artwork sowie eine Akustikversion von „All I Want“.

Released here for the first time on vinyl, Science-Fiction is one of Mazalda's early albums, originally released in 2008 on CD only. Mazalda is a legendary band for anyone who's been to French venues and festivals in the last 20 odd years ; the Lyon-based collective have played – literally – thousands of shows, always with a high level of breathtaking musicianship, sensitivity and energy.

Although mostly known for their fruitful collaboration with raïsinger Sofiane Saidi in the late 2010's, Mazalda started off as a street brass-band circa 2001. Soon, they integrated specific modern elements to their sound : 70's analog synths, psychedelic guitars, electric mandoline, Wurlitzer piano, Ewi electronic saxophone.

Stéphane Cézard, Mathieu Ogier, Lucas & Adrien Spirli, Gilles Poizat and Julien Lesuisse were influenced by numerous styles of instrumental music from across the Eurasian continent since their teenage years ; yet with Science-Fiction they broadened their field of inspiration to both pop and experimental horizons. Gilles Poizat (Orchestre Tout-Puissant Marcel Duchamp) and Julien Lesuisse (Crimi)'s clear and melodic vocals pair with a great sonic depth created by the countless possibilities of instrumental combinations.

Mazalda chose to record a handful of cover versions such as the majestic opener " Thu Og Eg " by Icelandic prog musician Gunnar Thordarson, or a funk-fuelled version of a 1920's protest song by Neapolitan singer Alfredo Bascetta. A majority of the selection, though, is masterfully penned by members of the band.

Science-Fiction captures the fresh and boundless creativity of a young band of mates who, as well as being top-rank interprets, draw unique inspiration from timeless musical wells. It just wasn't fair that this album never got released on vinyl or online. Meanwhile, Mazalda are still alive and well, as they released their latest album Special Key in 2023 (Airfono) and are currently playing shows across France and Europe with Franco-Egyptian singer Hend Alrawy (Orange Blossom) as "Zerzura".

Osaka-based producer and beat-maker Altz reinterprets and remixes Roland P. Young's spiritual jazz classic, Isophonic Boogie Woogie for the EM label!Intergenerational gene-splicing from EM. Roland Young's Isophonic Boogie Woogie, tripped-out minimalist spiritual free jazz from 1980 (previously reissued by EM as EM1045CD/LP), is here mutated, masticated and machined by Altz, renowned "organic electronicist" from Osaka. Maintaining and magnifying the cosmic bliss-vibe of the original release, Altz lovingly massages Young's sounds into the year 2009. Sounds are layered and treated, atmospheres extended, and propulsive elements from Young's original recordings are bolstered (there is some fine drumming here from former Boredoms drummer Muneomi Senju). Altz also respects Young's more absract side, following the elder master into atmospheres of freedom, unrestrained by the gravity of the beat and the conventions of the dance floor.

HighSchool veröffentlichen ihr lang ersehntes selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum. Das Melbourner Duo Rory Trobbiani und Luke Scott sorgte erstmals mit der Debüt-EP „Forever At Last“ für Aufsehen, zog daraufhin nach London um mit Dan Carey (Wet Leg, Fontaines D.C., Franz Ferdinand) einige Songs aufzunehmen. Für die Arbeit an ihrem Debütalbum zogen Trobbiani und Scott nach Australien zurück, holten sich Unterstützung von den Produzenten Ben Hillier (Blur, Depeche Mode) und Finn Bellingham (RIP Magic, Sam Akpro, Sunken) und haben nun eine essentielle Platte im Gepäck. Kernthema ist passend zum Bandnamen das Hochschulleben. Die 12 Tracks kanalisieren perfekt die rastlose Energie und die rosaroten Mythen der Jugend.

Mona Steinwidder (Museum of No Art) and Mitko Mitkov have spent years exchanging sounds and words across Hamburg's creative landscape - Swimming Pool Reflections is where those exchanges accumulated in Steinwidder's studio beneath the slanted roof of a former barracks. Premiered in November 2024 for Gesa Troch's exhibition "you say water is sweet", the work intertwines Mitkov’s texts (originally composed as emails to members of a swimming club, as imaginary as they are real) with Steinwidder’s clarinet and synthesizer, full of dubby resonance.

Swimming Pool Reflections isn't about swimming. It's about standing at the edge and watching - the way light fractures through water, how shadows play across tile, everything that forms and dissolves in the viewer's eye. The libretto moves through straits where bodies of water collide, small lakes with white slides, pools suspended in generic landscapes generated from uploaded photographs. Binary gods and transparent shadows. Sediment and cosmic hands weaving existence on overdimensional looms.

Across two uninterrupted sides, words float like those oil spots Mitkov describes: "swallowing light, drifting between the waves, forming a strange pattern". The music holds space for these reflections without trying to contain them. Everything stays permeable. Everything keeps moving.

Da ich schon seit Jahren von Andrew Chalks Arbeit mit MIRROR (und auch von seinen Solo-Projekten als FERIAL CONFINE sowie seinen vielen Kollaborationen mit David Jackman, The New Blockaders, Daisuke Suzuki usw.) und Timo van Luijk (als Af Ursin, In Camera, La Poupée Vivante und Kollaborationen mit Kris Vanderstraeten und anderen) fasziniert, war ich natürlich neugierig, von ihrem Duo-Projekt ELODIE zu hören. Das Projekt wurde 2010 gegründet und hat bis heute schon elf wunderschöne Alben rausgebracht. ,Vieux Silence" für Ideologic Organ ist ihre erste Veröffentlichung außerhalb ihres eigenen Plattenlabels Faraway Press & La Scie Dorée. Das ist aber nicht das erste Mal, dass Ideologic Organ und ELODIE zusammenarbeiten. Sie traten im Februar 2012 bei einem von mir kuratierten Abend in London zusammen mit Jessika Kenney und Eyvind Kang auf. Elodies Auftritt war einer der feinfühligsten und gekonntesten, die ich je gesehen habe ... so still, während draußen vor den Fenstern des Cafe Oto in London der Schnee fiel, versank das Publikum spürbar in hochkonzentriertem Zuhören. Die Erinnerung daran ist echt beeindruckend, wenn man bedenkt, wie sparsam die einzelnen Elemente an diesem Abend eingesetzt wurden. ,Vieux Silence" und ELODIE im Allgemeinen regen sofort die visuelle Vorstellungskraft an, vielleicht gefiltert durch alte Aquarelle, Bandkorn, antike Linsen, vergessene Ebenen des Zuhörens und beobachtende Geduld. Auf diesem wunderschönen Album arbeiten Chalk & van Luijk auch mit Klavier, Pedal Steel und Klarinette zusammen (gespielt von Tom James Scott, Daniel Morris und Jean-Noel Rebilly). The brilliantly named duo - formed by Adam Morrow and Jamie Sego - might be based in "the hit recording capital of the world", Muscle Shoals, Alabama, but somehow, they have made a concept album about the ancient religious outpost off the coast of northeast England. It's a stunning record that mixes fuzzy guitars with folk horror and fantastic melodies - for fans of Ride, Slowdive, Galaxie 500, Talk Talk, Yo La Tengo and The Clientele. Despite its lyrical inspiration lying thousands of miles away, it comes imbued with the soulfulness of their surroundings - not least because it was recorded in the old Muscle Shoals Sound studio by the Tennessee River, now Portside Sound, which is run by Jamie. "The story of Lindisfarne gave us a framework for what were otherwise very abstract ideas and emotions," explains Adam. "It became a way to make sense of our own moment in history. We really want our lives and societies to always get better, and to be left alone to make that happen. But we are stuck in these cycles of progress and regression, and I think most people are really driven to make sense of it and assign meaning. Lately, we've lived through a global pandemic, a devaluation of truth and reality, and a resurgence of far-right politics into the mainstream. Not really what I expected out of life in 2025." He is keen to point out that, despite the seriousness of its inspirations, the duo had a lot of fun making the album and really want it to be "a living and breathing thing". "We want people to be able to engage with it regardless of whether they care about it as a concept record," he says. "For me, it's just another reason to expand the pedalboard," concludes Jamie. Mit Yenbett kehrt die mauretanische Sängerin Noura Mint Seymali eindrucksvoll zurück. Considered one of the first DJs in Italy, Daniele Baldelli began his career in 1969 mixing vinyl at the Tana Club in Cattolica (his hometown),
predating the birth of the modern DJ by several years. In the following years, he solidified his talent and technique at histor such as the Tabù Club, Baia degli Angeli, and Cosmic. From 1979 to 1984, Baldelli created his unique and eclectic style, blendi ic clubs ng seemingly distant sounds and musical styles, complementing them with tempo adjustments (bpm) and deliberately extreme equalization,
creating a truly distinctive sound, known as "Afro Disco." Soundscapes and tribal percussion blend with early electronic music experiments, and Baldelli's sets become truly mystical experiences, where, for the first time, the temples are replaced by the dance floor.
The documentary film "A Cosmic Life" has just been released, starring Daniele Baldelli alongside other illustrious guests from the nightclub scene, recounting the history and formation of this movement from the 1970s to the present.

DJ Daniele Baldelli and producer Gaudi first met three years ago at the Jazz Cafe in London. Mutual respect and an innate need to
create new stylistic fusions were the catalysts for Baldelli and Gaudi, leading to a series of subsequent meetings that inevitably culminated in the need to create music together. The project began at Gaudi's Metatron Studio in London using analog equipment and later
moved to Baldelli's studio in Cattolica, where the two organically defined their sound, also inspired by Baldelli's precious record collection. The duo consolidated a powerful compositional symbiosis, and the project, born from a simple initial groove, later transformed
into an entire EP consisting of four original tracks and a highly innovative sound, featuring fusions of psychedelic-funk, tribal-dub,
electronic-disco, and, of course, "Afro-Cosmic"! Daniele Baldelli and Gaudi began their sonic collaboration without setting any stylistic
direction and with the intention of not creating pre-established goals to achieve; it is a project of pure artistic freedom guided by their
compositional instinct and their experience. Constantly active with their evenings and live concerts, Baldelli and Gaudi have performed

Timely reissue of Only for the Headstrong, the seminal 12” from UK duo Psychotropic, arriving this November. Originally released in 1990 at the height of the Acid House explosion, the track quickly became a defining moment in UK dance music—melding house, breakbeat, and psychedelic pop influences into something utterly timeless. Revered by DJs, collectors, and ravers alike, Headstrong is a euphoric, genre-blurring anthem that retains a raw innocence and hypnotic pull even 35 years on.

Psychotropic was formed by Gavin Mills, a rising DJ with a deep love of house and hip-hop, and Nick Nicely, a seasoned psych-pop experimentalist whose history included cult releases with Arista and EMI. The pair met during the fever pitch of late '80s rave culture—bonding over illegal warehouse parties, makeshift home studios, and a shared impulse to explore new sounds and styles. Crafted using an Akai S900 sampler, a Fostex 8-track, and a Casio CZ-101, Only for the Headstrong emerged from Nicely’s South London home studio in a single inspired session, its unforgettable loops and soaring keys capturing both the chaos and euphoria of the era.

The track, and the Prince-style groove of B-side Out of Your Head, became underground hits, reaching the top of London’s independent record store charts and cementing Psychotropic’s reputation for marrying psychedelic sonic textures with club-ready grooves. Their sound stood out—rooted in DIY experimentation but elevated by emotional depth and melodic flair. Mills and Nicely’s unique chemistry would spawn further club classics like Hypnosis, Psychosis, and Feel Surreal, before diverging into solo paths in the mid-90s. Despite parting ways creatively, the duo has remained close friends, occasionally reuniting for remixes and digital reissues.
Now, in 2025, Only for the Headstrong returns to vinyl in its full analog glory—remastered and recontextualized for a new generation. With freshly penned liner notes by Nic Nicely, this nostalgic reissue captures the raw, open-minded energy of a pivotal moment in UK dance music and reconnects us with the heady, DIY spirit of early rave culture.

For our ninth offering we have ventured out of our small but fertile swamp in search of another source of magick. Meandering across boggy pastures new, we crossed paths with Steevio, who sat hovering serenely in the fern covered shade of a nearby valley. Instantly recognising the singular vision of this fabled artist, we hastily gathered our nets and cast them under Steevio’s branches, capturing four beautiful offerings as they wriggled towards us. Upon the return to our mulch, it became clear that we could not contain Steevio’s creations, so willful was their vitality. It was therefore all we could do to release them back to the universal dance from whence they came.

The dance germinates with the writhing polyrhythmic ‘Apricity’. Hearing the crunch of frost laden grass beneath our webbed toes, we look above us to search for the sun. Angular beams of light escape over the horizon, as the warmth of Steevio’s machines coalesce. A glistening hi hat breaks through the membrane to bind his creation and anchor its ever shifting arms.

‘Octopus’ glides gracefully through a sun-dappled kelp forest. Sub frequencies rumble up from the shadowy darkness below, rippling along the fronds as they ascend. As the ocean begins to churn, a wriggling melodic tentacle parts the foliage, gleaming with primordial energy. Its joyful visit to the surface realm leaves us with a brief yet powerful reminder of the mystery beneath.

The glow of the midwinter sun warms our bones on ‘Apricity (Sunrise Mix)’. Percussive elements bubble out of the depths, forming intricate cascading patterns as they grow over the perfectly formed kicks. The moog filter tames the brew with Steevio’s intuitive restraint , until he releases its mighty power upon the gleeful forest dwellers, to their rapturous gratitude.

With ‘Adref’ we return home. The sedate tempo provides oceanic space for a melody which inhales and exhales over a familiar landscape of perfectly tuned percussion. With each breath the melody seems to increase its reach, until it’s buried deep within our bones, its memory resonating on long after it’s gone.

Steevio’s music reflects the universal moments where seemingly chaotic and disparate elements are suddenly revealed to be perfectly harmonious. Of course examples of this are always universally present in nature, and have been eternally, but we have to be reminded to appreciate them. In the same way that a wave deposits a perfect line of shells on a beach, dew freezes on grass, or individual strands of mycelial hyphae bind together to form incredible patterns, Steevio’s music is likewise; effortlessly considered. For us, it has more in common with the unrelenting flow of a river than it does with dance music. It is psychedelic music in the same sense that nature is intuitively psychedelic; without ever leaning into any tried tropes of what is culturally considered ‘psychedelic’ music.

Noumen returns to Central Processing Unit after a six-year absence with Altum. This bumper record, the Ukrainian artist's fourth release for the Sheffield label and first since 2019 double-LPObscurium, serves to remind us all why Noumen's music has been lauded by the likes of Mixmag and Resident Advisor in the past.Altumis a consummate piece of contemporary electronic production, a technoid exploration of outer-edges electronica that nods to genre greats like Autechre while still maintaining its own unconventional charm.

Across well over an hour of music here we find Noumen repeatedly playing punchy mid-tempo beat work off of some more cerebral tuned synths.Altumkicks off with the epic 'Oion' - beginning in that Autechre/AFX mid-tempo zone, full of deep-sea bangs and whirrs, the track slowly builds to a final stretch of delay-drenched keys which set us free amidst the outer cosmos, almost Sun Ra-style. It's a perfect liminal-space roller and an apt scene-setter forAltum.

'Oion' provides a blueprint for several of the album's other highlights - plenty of the joints here adopt that same approach of hitting hard with the drums and soft with the synths. Second track 'Splitter' takes on the baton from 'Oion' while souping up the kick to warehouse levels; the beats in 'Far Wind' splutter like a needle skipping on a mid-90s Tresor drop; 'Fate Carette', all eerie looped synth leads, is a highlight as the album enters the home straight.

The rhythm production (which, it should be noted, is exemplary throughoutAltum) is ratched up in intensity on a handful of numbers. 'Telemask' displays a delightful breakbeat - if you'd told me this was sampled from golden age A Tribe Called Quest, I'd have believed you. Mid-section anchors 'Awe' and 'Axis' are glitchers in the Mike Paradinas mould, with the latter showing off some pleasing steel pan-esque synth leads for good measure. And whileAltumgenerally maintains a processional pace throughout, there are points where Noumen toughens up the drums for club deployment - 'Unveilness' shows off a real chunkiness in the low end, closer 'Spurling Sign' plays a satisfying rolling groove off of ever-layering synths, and the title-track is an alien machine-funker in keeping with fellow CPU electronauts like Silicon Scally and Cygnus.

Noumen's third album for Central Processing Unit is a pleasingly hefty double-LP which builds on the zany invention of acts like Modeselektor and Autechre to delightful effect.

There are artists we occasionally happen across, even 14 years into our FatKidOnFire journey, where we know we need to work with them. There is material from said artists which sets our world on fire, and then there’s the four tunes that make up our first physical record in over two years. This one’s a long time coming, and also marks one of the first instances in FKOF Records where we welcome an artist to the family with a straight-to-record release. Over the last decade and a half, the 140 landscape has been through its peaks and troughs. On November 7, 2025, the Belgian label Sdban Records will release a reissue of the mythical Open Sky Unit (1974) by the eponymous jazz fusion group featuring Micheline and Jacques Pelzer, Steve Houben, Ron Wilson, Janot Buchem and Michel Graillier. The album returns on vinyl, highlighting a pivotal moment in Belgian jazz history, where soul, funk, and free improvisation came together in a vibrant and family-driven project.

Formed in the early 1970s as a homage to Dave Liebman's group Open Sky, Open Sky Unit grew out of informal jam sessions in Liège, Belgium, into a unique collective. One of the central figures was Jacques Pelzer, father of drummer and vocalist Micheline Pelzer, alongside his second cousin, saxophonist/flutist Steve Houben, bass player Janot Buchem, percussionist Michel Graillier and American pianist/composer Ron Wilson.

Their 1974 debut album was released on the Duchesne classical music label, run by Pelzer's brother-in-law. The group's sound carefully balanced jazz and soul and was largely directed by Wilson, a Californian pianist and singer who settled in Liège and nearby Maastricht after his army service. Wilson composed the entire repertoire. Open Sky Unit was recorded live at Jazzland club in Liège, and the band made several short tours in Belgium and abroad (including Tunisia) until around 1975-1976, when Houben left for Boston to study at the Berklee College of Music.

Although the original live recording from 1974 was not technically perfect, the group succeeded in capturing their heartfelt live energy. Tracks such as Open Sky, Sunshine Star, and Passion and Compassion are striking examples of this. Years later, the album version of Sunshine Star found its way onto Funky Chicken (2014), the compilation that not only brought the track back into the spotlight but also marked the beginning of Sdban Records.

In addition to the standard reissue, a limited edition of 200 copies will be released for collectors, featuring a 7" single of Ron Wilson's Sunshine Star as a special bonus. This single was originally released in 1973 with the acoustic version of Sunshine Star (piano and vocals) on the B-side, recorded a few months before the longer jazz-funk version later featured on the LP Open Sky Unit. The A-side, Peace Is The Answer, was only released on that single at the time and is now being reissued for the very first time. The 7" is thus a faithful and long-awaited reissue of a rare piece of Belgian jazz history, it's intimate, soulful, and an ideal complement to theexisting and well-known LP.

Although the band never achieved a major international breakthrough, they were highly valued in progressive European jazz circles and later secured a place in anthologies such as Utopic Cities: Progressive Jazz in Belgium 1968-1979. The reissue of Open Sky Unit brings their music back into the spotlight and reaffirms their role as key figures in the Belgian jazz scene of the seventies.

I first remember meeting Eminence in 2019, at one of her Upraw events she was doing at the time in Leeds (now taking place in Bristol). She had booked me & Coco Bryce to play & since then, we kept in contact and she would send me her music that she was working on.

Last year, I heard that she had collaborations on the go with both Dwarde & Kid Lib, which made me curious about how those tunes would sound & when she sent me early previews of them, I was very keen on getting them for the label. It took quite a while for both of these collabs to get finished but eventually, after many back & forth between Eminence & both artists, we reached a point where everyone was happy (I think!) with the end results.

I was asked by Priori (a producer based in Montreal) who runs a label called NAFF about doing a remix of this tune called "First Step To Peace" by Sabola. I did the remix that month & both him & Sabola were pleased with how it sounded and it got the go ahead for release (should be out at some point soon!)

In February, I had a gig in Montreal where I was able to meet both of them beforehand to hang out and chat about music and such & getting to know Sabola in person, I realised that he had more interest in & knowledge about jungle than I had initially assumed. Also, he was occasionally producing jungle tunes, but none of them had been released before.

I asked him to send me some of what he had been working on & when he sent me "Close Your Eyes", I knew straight away that I needed to get him on the label in some form. I signed that track instantly and then waited for him to work on some more music for a Future Retro London release, which then resulted in "Give You Some Space" & that was all I needed.

In the end, I decided that rather than doing 2 separate 10" releases for the collabs Eminence had done with Dwarde & Kid Lib and the tracks that Sabola had made, it would be more practical to combine them into a split 12" EP release & here we are.

Big up to Eminence for her collabs (as well as her putting up with my constant chasing up of progress for the release), to Dwarde & Kid Lib for their work on the collaborations, to Sabola for his excellent work on his two tracks & to Priori for introducing me to his music.

A key label on the Berlin scene since the 1990s, Muller Records—famed for a deep and chunky club sound from artists like Dave DK, Claude Young and The Hacker—is back with a new EP from Beroshima feat Rummy Sharma with remixes from Namito and Pascal Hetzel. Beroshima, of course, is the production work of label Frank Muller sometimes accompanied by ethereal electronic music specialist Ulrich Schnauss. After more than twenty years together they have amassed a fine body of work that includes five albums and more than a hundred Eps!

Always mixing up acid, techno and tribal into something fresh, the Beroshima sound has its own unique signature.... For this latest single Muller steps up solo to produce another gem. The stellar Delhibelly is a slick and muscular cut that bubbles away on a bed of warming bass.... Smeared pads add soul and snares flap about like tin foil in a breeze. It's a futuristic cut that will always pack a punch in any context. The Techno Mix is just as soulful but is quicker and more expansive so as to carry dancers away on an uplifting groove. Namito is a Green Horn Records producer from Iran but based in Berlin. He is another veteran who is as relevant as ever and his mix slows things down to a deep, inviting roller with jazzy perc, absorbing synths and kinetic kicks driving things along in style. Finally Pascal Hetzel, fresh from his super CYRK release with Sierra Sam, completes this sterling great package.

His classy remix is another rounded affair full of warm synths and bass that is sure to keep energy and emotional levels high in any set. Once again here Muller Records have concocted a club ready record that both DJs and dancers will love.

2025 Repress!

Recorded in a remote cabin on the Devon coast, STILL OUT is an album-length collaboration between musician-filmmakers – and childhood friends – Will Cookson and Tom Haverly. A reflection on friendship, landscape and the passing of time, it inspired a road trip from North Yorkshire to North Devon they took together in the summer of 2024, and forms the soundtrack to a film of the same name which had its premiere screening as part of Stroud Film Festival in March 2025.

Like the film, STILL OUT is also an oblique homage to The KLF’s iconic 1990 album Chill Out, which the Gloucestershire-based pair revisited after it turned up unexpectedly a few years back in Tom’s dad’s record collection. Inspired to create their own recording using a similarly free-spirited process, Will and Tom relocated to the Devon coast in late summer 2023, splicing together a 40-minute mix from their personal archive of recordings and found sounds in a remote cabin with no electricity or mobile reception.

"It came together using cut-and-paste techniques, with ongoing shifts and tweaks,” says Will. “The final result was an audio collage that felt like something legendary hip hop producers The Bomb Squad might make - if ambient music was the only material in their sample library."

Using ‘ambient’ as a starting-point rather than an end in itself, they took inspiration from across the musical spectrum – classic-period Brian Eno, Philip Glass, Bill Evans, plus outliers such as 80s singer-songwriter Virginia Astley and the late DJ-producer Andrew Weatherall. The connections, though, are anything but obvious as the audio shifts seamlessly from field recordings and spoken-word interludes to mood pieces and snatches of vintage pop.

Edited and assembled using freely available open source programs, the source material was often radically altered using tools such as “PaulStretch”, a digital sound-morphing algorithm that allows users to stretch audio files to extreme lengths.

"When we found ourselves in a creative slump or unsure how to navigate a tricky part, we'd say, ‘Let's put some syrup on it and slow it down,’” says Tom. “That always helped us get back on track during late-night recording sessions at the cabin."

Part-soundtrack, part-meditative experiment, STILL OUT is intended as a reflection on the mental and emotional shift that occurs when stepping away from the routine of daily life – an album that forms a celebration of our ever-changing relationship to the world around us and the mystery of what it means to pass through time and space.

Concrete Noir is the latest project from multimedia artist and sound designer Piero Fragola, known for genre-defying ventures like We Love (BPitch Control) and ANGLE (Tiptop Audio Records). With this project, he explores a hybrid space where electronics, voice and image merge into an introspective and shadowy form. The debut album, Romance Ruins, is the first release on the newly founded Frequens Records.

Composed entirely using Tiptop Audio’s ART modular system, it unfolds as a series of layered, emotionally charged compositions. These are structured songs with a physical low-end impact.

Musically, Romance Ruins moves beyond genre boundaries to inhabit a space shaped by contrast and collision. The result is a form of modern hybridization—melancholic yet forceful, intimate yet expansive. The sonic identity is carefully constructed but deliberately raw, emphasizing emotion over precision.

The title itself captures the core of this paradox. Romanticism, in its intensity, may ultimately destroy. And yet, from that destruction, something vital emerges. The album embraces the figure of a decadent hero—a child of broken ideals who reclaims beauty from collapse. It’s a romantic vindication of decadence, a belief that clarity can rise from ruin, and meaning from fragmentation.

Moving through a broad range of tempos, the tracks explore murky, melancholic, tactile and cinematic moods. Synths intertwine with guitars (Fender and Gretsch Dobro). All vocals are performed by Piero Fragola, except on Faraway Places, where his voice is joined by that of Viktoria Lishkee—the album’s only guest appearance.Nearly every track is paired with a video, expanding the work’s audiovisual dimension. As a designer for Tiptop Audio and instructor at IED and LABA in Florence, Fragola brings a multi-sensory vision to Concrete Noir—one where medium and message, form and feeling, are inseparable. With Romance Ruins, he delivers an artistic statement. A body of work that resists categorization and embraces the beauty of decay.

Emmanuel Top's Attack Records stands as a milestone in the 1990s techno-acid scene.
The French producer pioneered a unique sound that continues to resonate today. Tracks like "Turkish Bazar" and "Acid Phase" remain iconic, even considered among the best techno productions of the 90s.
Thirty years after their original release, all the key tracks by Emmanuel Top on his own Attack Records return to vinyl, remastered in a 5 x 12" boxset.

In the two years since Parallel Minds’ Juno-Award-winning 5th release Homesick by label co-founder Ciel, we have taken our time reassessing our next moves as the larger dance music scene experienced a paradigm shift. What does it mean to release music made by underground artists from lesser-known scenes like Toronto at a time when bookers and A&Rs are taking fewer risks than ever before? How do we truly celebrate the musical diversity of electronic music when the bottom line threatens to reduce any and all forms of risk-taking?

You just do it, of course.

In truth, few artists have come to represent the music scene in the Big Smoke more than Phèdre, and having seen the duo’s progression from indie weirdo-pop to live hardware act to breakbeat wunderkind in the last decade has been nothing short of amazing. It’s really artists like these that inspired us to start the label in 2018, and we are super elated to usher in PM006 with their long-awaited album, Liquid Constancy.

On its face, Liquid Constancy is a breakbeat record. There are housier joints, to more bassy Baltimore club bangers, to breakneck footwork and jungle steeped in sunshine. All of them share a distinctly syncopated, dubwise rhythm that grounds the album’s tracks. With some having been developed as early as seven years ago, these tracks had their genesis in Phèdre’s mostly improvised live hardware sets from some of Toronto’s most notorious warehouse raves. Primarily powered by two Korg Electribe ESX-1s and the semi-modular Moog Mother-32, the jams found new life in the studio when the duo began recording them as tracks, which demanded a mindfulness of their permanence that Daniel Lee and apè Aliermo at first found intimidating.

Over time, the pair developed a synergistic workflow that pulls from Daniel’s background in drums and apè’s keen ear for texture and movement. They sourced samples featuring voices of BIPOC and feminist icons, drew from their shared love of sci-fi and kung fu movies, and from their Filipino, Chinese, German, and Surinamese backgrounds. Samples were manipulated via techniques like lowering bit rates and adjusting speed to maximize usage due to the Electribe’s limited sample time, which was a subtle way of injecting their interests into their music without being too on the nose. Growing up in the melting pot of the GTA, going to raves as teens, bumping post-punk, industrial, electro, hip-hop and 90s R&B — these experiences all had an undeniable influence on Liquid Constancy. As kids of immigrant parents, equally informed by both their adopted and native cultures, Phèdre makes music informed by sampling and defined by cultural hybridity. In times like these, what is more feel-good than believing in music as a universal language that brings our different backgrounds together?

Steve Fuji and I have collaborated on several projects including Paris Ford, The Kopestetics, Real Side, Taxie, Kenyatta, Henderson & Jones, Natural Impulse, Ray Williams & Prime Cut. He is a valued member of Epsilon Record Co and we are grateful for his assistance and expertise.

Several years ago Steve informed me that he had a master tape from a recording session he conducted in 1978 (he believes it was at Mystic Studio) from one of the original members and co-founders of Taxie, Charles Erwin Williams II, also known as ‘Ice Cream’.

The tape was in good condition and the original version of With Love You’ll Find A Peace Of Mind was 7 minutes 38 seconds. I asked Steve if it was possible to shorten it to approximately 3 minutes.

A few days later I received several versions re-mastered and re-mixed by him and we both agreed they sounded excellent.

We hope you will enjoy this as much as we do. It is a fantastic piece of unheard Californian soul music available exclusively on Epsilon Record Co.

Camp Trash ist das Ergebnis von zwei Freundschaften: 1. Friendship America, die kurzlebige Band aus Sarasota, die von den Brüdern Keegan und Levi Bradford und Bryan Gorman gegründet wurde, und 2. die jahrzehntelange Freundschaft und Zusammenarbeit beim Songwriting zwischen Keegan und Bryan. Nachdem Keegan Florida verlassen hatte, blieben er und Bryan in Kontakt, indem sie an Musik arbeiteten und sich Song-Demos per E-Mail schickten. Recorded live-off-the-floor in 2024 in Jeremy, Izzy, and Kellen’s basement, and mixed by drummer John Brennan, ‘Outside Over There’ is an album that feels both summoned and inevitable. Each track lands with uncanny purpose, as if uncovered rather than written.
The opener, 100%, features a cameo from comedian and English icon Stewart Lee, who lent his blessing for the band to use a fragment of his stand-up. The album was mastered by John Dieterich (Deerhoof), with liner text contributed by longtime comrade John Olson (Wolf Eyes). Olson describes the album in his unmistakable style:
“This eight-track odyssey unfolds like a dreamscape, where whispered incantations brush against the shadowy fringes of the cosmos, and wild, Cézanne-inspired rock anthems erupt like geysers of color in the midst of a western warm and wet rain storm… culminating in the sprawling eleven minute masterpiece, ‘And The Music Shall Untune The Sky,’ aptly dubbed the Earth Crusher. A creation so utterly deconstructed and intertwined with the pulse of nature itself that if AI was called upon to conceive ‘Outside Over There’ anew, it would just spit back, “F.U. in Tree Font”. An enchanting invitation for even the flat-earthers to join the circle, if only just a little.”
EarthBall’s trajectory has been relentless. Their 2024 album ‘It’s Yours’ was praised by The Quietus as “fully aggressive and fully life-affirming,” and by The Wire as "a boisterous mind-melting album”. The band’s live double set LP ‘Actual Earth Music Vol. 1 & 2’ (2025) captured blistering performances: a performance opening for Wolf Eyes at the Fox Cabaret, and a Café OTO improvised throw-down featuring Chris Corsano and Steve Beresford. These releases on their own confirm them as one of Canada’s most vital experimental exports, not to mention the impressive self-released discography on their Bandcamp. The band’s reach has stretched far beyond their west coast roots with a UK tour May 2024, plus this past June, EarthBall closed Montreal’s Suoni Per Il Popolo Festival alongside Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Raven Chacon. This November they will perform at Le Guess Who? Festival in Utrecht, with a European tour to follow (tour dates below). Outside of EarthBall, each member carries their own torch. Jeremy Van Wyck, founding member of the legendary Shearing Pinx, has toured extensively, released over 100 records, and has been a vital force in the Vancouver and West Coast underground for the past 25 years. He and Isabel Ford (Izzy) play together not only in EarthBall, but also in Psychedelic Dirt, Shearing Pinx, Behaviours, and Crotch.
John Brennan collaborates widely, including recently with Endlings (Raven Chacon and John Dieterich), Evichen (Victoria Shen), Francesco Fonassi, Plan Your Future (with Greg Saunier of Deerhoof), Brennan/Corsano duo and Physics with John Dieterich. Kellen Maclaughlin performs with KVMP and Ora Corgan, while saxophonist Liam Murphy is a west coast staple, playing with the best across Vancouver Island and the mainland. On three of the tracks of ‘Outside Over There’, the band is joined by their comrade Justin Patterson, who also plays with Brennan in the duo Modale. This cross-pollination fuels EarthBall’s sound - a collective improvisation, psychically overdriven, and grinding into bloom.
Outside Over There’ is more than an album though, it is a ritual, a gathering of sound at the forest’s edge; where feedback, saxophone screams, and ecstatic vocals dissolve the boundary between chaos and clarity. 1954 und 1956 nahm der Rundfunk Jacques Brels erste Live-Auftritte in den Kabaretts Chez Geneviève und Chez Gilles auf.
Achtung, ein verstecktes Juwel! Im Juli 1965, auf dem Höhepunkt seiner Karriere, zeichnete Jacques Brel eine Jam-Session im Maison de la Radio auf, bei der er eine bewegende Version von "Amsterdam" zum Besten gab - begleitet nur von Gérard Jouannest am Klavier und Pierre Sim am Kontrabass.
Die zweite Seite enthält ein Live-Recital, das 1962 für die Sendung Discoparade im Alhambra aufgezeichnet wurde. Dort zeigt sich der Künstler - längst kein Geheimtipp mehr - im Zusammenspiel mit Klavier und Streichensemble.

NYC electronic music collective P.E. return with their third and final album Oh!, due October 3 on Wharf Cat Records. Oh! Is the sound of a startled exclamation punctuating an exit, and the embodiment of the music within: fun and fluorescent, fluid and flirty, dirty and a little dangerous. From their conception in 2017 through the NOPE Tape series, P.E. existed as an experiment in co-conspirited collaboration. Oh! continues to cast a wide net, featuring an expanded lineup from their original formation, including Eleanor Friedberger of The Fiery Furnaces on the lead single "Color Coordinator". The resulting music ranges wide as ever, from the jubilant grooves of the title track and "Color Coordinator" to "The Fiction Writer" - a tender duet between Veronica Torres and Jonny Campolo - through the city pop sounds of "(Do You Like) So So?" and "Purple On Time", and into the abstracted beyond. This isn't a goodbye, but a "see you around". A tear falls down the cheek of a stranger, dancing as they catch your smile in the reflection of a glass building. He now quietly releases music under the name R.A. Jones (as on his recently released Whispered to A Child), and as Scythe with David West (on A Colourful Storm). Jonathan Schenke disappeared for six months without a trace; when he returned he had developed a nervous tic anytime he heard a 909 rimshot or a saxophone. His recent solo album Passages (on No Gold) features neither of the above, nor does his project Gift Horse with Matthew Hord. Veronica Torres headed west to pursue her studies, developing a ceramic polymer whose beauty has caused madness in certain individuals. Her band Cha Cha 9 is a darling of the Minneapolis scene. Hüsker Dü. Live. 1985. Das transzendente Punk-Trio aus Minneapolis in seinem explosivsten Jahr, live aufgenommen auf der Bühne im First Avenue, in der vielleicht am besten klingenden Aufnahme der gefeierten SST-Ära der Band. Diese 4xLP/2xCD-Edition enthält Beau Sorensons Restaurierung der 21 Songs des gesamten Sets vom 30. Januar 1985, dazu 20 zusätzliche Live-Tracks aus dem weiteren Tourneeverlauf des Jahres und ein Deluxe-Booklet mit detaillierten Informationen zu den zwölf geschichtsträchtigen Monaten von Hüsker Dü. Wie klingt eine Legende, in dem Moment, wenn sie geschrieben wird? Betrachtet man das Jahr 1985 durch die dynamische Linse der Independent/DIY-Musik, so gab es Mitte des Jahrzehnts für Hüsker Dü einen kraftvollen und unbestreitbaren Sprint von der rauen Punk-Institution bei SST zur künstlerischen Empathie bei Warner Bros. Die New York Times bezeichnete die Band als "die beste, die aus der Hardcore-Szene hervorgegangen ist". Die First-Avenue-Bänder von 1985 zeigen Hüsker Dü in Höchstform mit bereits beliebten Songs, ein paar Jahre bevor sie ihren Status als Blaupause für den kommenden Alternative-Rock-Boom endgültig gefestigt hatten. After the GS boom subsided and New Rock was in full swing, Segawa Hiroshi was one of the few bands pursuing country rock and southern rock in Japanese, while most bands were aiming for British rock.
The album "Pierrot," one of the culminations of this endeavor, was produced with the help of a lineup of representative Japanese new rock artists, including Ishihama Hideki and Kozuki Jun from
Flower Travellin' Band, Yamauchi Tetsu and Harada Yushin from Samurai, and Ohno Katsuo from PYG.
The album has been reissued with the additional recording of the single "The White Room Where You Were," released the year after "Pierrot," and remastered by Kubota Makoto.

Limitiertes "26 Highlighter Yellow" Vinyl. Hayley Williams ist eine dreifache GRAMMY-Gewinnerin, Sängerin, Songwriterin und Musikerin, die vor allem als Frontfrau der legendären Rockband Paramore bekannt ist. Nachdem Paramore mehr als 20 Jahre lang ihren Vertrag mit Atlantic Records erfüllt hatten - einen Vertrag, den Williams als Teenager unterzeichnet hatte -, gaben sie im Dezember 2023 bekannt, dass sie nun endlich eine unabhängige Band seien. Diese Überraschungssammlung wird von Hayley Williams auf ihrem neuen Label Post Atlantic selbst veröffentlicht und zeigt sie in ihrer ganzen Bandbreite. Williams hat eine Reihe von verschiedenen Instrumental-Parts geschrieben, gespielt und aufgenommen, wobei langjährige Kollaborateure wie Brian Robert Jones und Joey Howard projektübergreifend mitgewirkt haben und Jim-E Stack bei "True Believer" mitgewirkt hat. "Mirtazapine" ist eine Liebeserklärung an Antidepressiva im Stile des Alternative Rock der späten 90er Jahre, während sie in "Glum" ihre eigene Stimme mit beeindruckenden Effekten durch Vocal-Presets untergräbt, während der Track über Einsamkeit meditiert. Tristen stammt aus der lebhaften Roots-Rock-Szene von Nashville, Tennessee, und hat sich in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten als produktive und vielseitige Musikerin etabliert. Ihr Talent für das Komponieren fesselnder Melodien und scharfsinniger Texte hat ihr hochkarätige Kooperationen eingebracht. Sie war Co-Autorin von ,Love is an Art", dem neuesten Album von Vanessa Carlton, und tourte mit Jenny Lewis als Teil ihrer Band Voyager. Ihr folkiges Debütalbum ,Charlatans at the Garden Gate" aus dem Jahr 2011 brachte ihr das Lob als ,Nashvilles bestgehütetes Geheimnis" (The Boston Globe) ein, während sie sich mit ,CAVES" aus dem Jahr 2013, das von Stephen Hague co-produziert wurde, als hypnotische ,Synth-Pop-Sirene" (SPIN) neu erfand. Sneaker Waves erschien 2017 und markierte ihren Übergang zur vollständigen Produktion ihrer Musik und Musikvideos in ihrem Heimstudio zusammen mit ihrem langjährigen Kollaborateur und Ehemann Buddy Hughen. Rolling Stone beschrieb es als ,Nilsson-würdige Powerballade", während Ann Powers von NPR es als ,voller großartiger Melodien und eingängiger Arrangements, die das Ohr kitzeln und nicht mehr aus dem Kopf gehen" bezeichnete. 2021 erschien Aquatic Flowers, woraufhin Talkhouse verkündete: ,Sie ist eine dieser Songwriterinnen und Performerin, die von anderen Musikern absolut geliebt werden, und das aus gutem Grund. Sie ist eine Risikofreudige im Studio, wagt sich in unbekanntes Terrain vor und findet fast immer etwas, das zumindest interessant und oft unglaublich ist." Ihr fünftes Studioalbum ,Unpopular Music" erscheint im Oktober und enthält Beiträge von Pat Sansone von Wilco, Vanessa Carlton, Becca Mancari, Erin Rae und Natalie Prass. Damit kehrt sie auch endlich wieder auf die Bühne zurück und setzt ihre Karriere fort, in der sie bereits mit Robyn Hitchcock, Television, Ezra Furman und den Mountain Goats aufgetreten ist.

Unfolding ist Jessica Moss' meditativstes und klagendstes Soloalbum und vielleicht das erste in der jahrzehntelangen Diskografie der Violinistin und Komponistin aus Montreal, das man zu Recht als Ambient bezeichnen kann. Die ehemalige Mitglied von Silver Mt Zion und Black Ox Orkestar schöpft aus Postklassik, Drone, Minimalismus, Industrial/Metal, Power Electronics, Klezmer und anderen Folk-Traditionen. Es handelt sich hierbei nicht um abstrakte Ambient-Musik; vielschichtige Violinenmelodien, elektroakustische Bearbeitungen, intermittierende Stimmen und Percussion von Tony Buck, dem Schlagzeuger von The Necks, bringen zutiefst emotionale, genreübergreifende Kompositionen hervor, die von einem Geist der Suche und Beschwörung geleitet sind und sich in einer vorherrschenden Atmosphäre von Beschwörung und trauernder Zurückhaltung entfalten. Die Untrennbarkeit von Persönlichem und Politischem hat sich für Moss in den letzten zwei Jahren immer stärker herauskristallisiert. Als Kernmitglied der Montrealer Sektion von Musicians For Palestine hat sie mehrere Benefizkonzerte mitorganisiert und gespielt und im Frühjahr 2024 das Soloalbum For UNRWA veröffentlicht (das über 800 Unterstützer fand und Tausende von Dollar einbrachte). Später im selben Jahr zerbrach ihre langjährige Fernbeziehung aufgrund politischer Differenzen. In enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem Produzenten Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (Jerusalem In My Heart) entstanden ,Unfolding" in den letzten zwölf Monaten, dem zweiten Jahr des Völkermords in Palästina, als direkte Reaktion auf unser kollektives Miterleben, unsere kollektive Trauer, als Portal zur kollektiven Trauer, als Suchscheinwerfer durch unsere inneren Wettersysteme, auf der Suche nach einander in der Dunkelheit. Moss bewegte sich bereits in Richtung einer erhöhten Fragilität und einem tiefen Zuhören, ihre Musik wurde zunehmend langatmig und zeremoniell. Trotz der stark gesunkenen finanziellen Rentabilität von Tourneen wurde ihre Hingabe, Raum zu schaffen, Verflechtungen herzustellen und eine Verbindung zu einem intimen Live-Publikum aufzubauen, zu ihrem kreativen Leitstern, ihre Solo-Praxis wurde durch ihr Engagement und die Kommunikation in diesen Räumen geprägt. Die jüngsten politischen und persönlichen Umwälzungen haben diese ritualisierten, reparativen musikalischen Prozesse nur noch verstärkt. Die beiden langen Stücke auf der ersten Seite von Unfolding verkörpern diese Sensibilität. ,Washing Machine" verwebt Schichten von Streicherdrones und Filigranarbeit, sanft verzerrt durch Verzerrerpedale und Verstärkung, wobei unentzifferbare, ausgeblasene Sprechstimmen den Mix zeitweise als fragmentarische Palimpseste verhüllter Rezitationen und unbeschreiblicher Gefühle umhüllen. Der Ursprung des Stücks liegt in einer Telefonaufnahme einer europäischen Waschmaschine, die Moss aufnahm, als sie neben ihr saß, mit gebrochenem Herzen auf dem Badezimmerboden, und Trost fand, indem sie eine Melodie zu den mechanischen Obertönen der Waschmaschine summte, die ihren Zyklus durchlief. Das Herzstück des Albums, ,One, Now", beginnt als zarte Anrufung mit Basspuls, Glockenspiel und Glocken, gezupften Saiten und traurigen Lead-Violinenlinien, die von jüdischen und arabischen Modi beeinflusst sind. Umgebungsgeräusche, Feldaufnahmen und wortlose Gesänge werden hinzugefügt, während sich Violinenmelodien überlagern und zu einer hypnotisierenden Drone-Landschaft verschmelzen: eine halb improvisierte, lebendige Komposition, die durch Tony Bucks pinselstrichartiges Schlagzeugspiel und Moumnehs ,Schrei in die Leere" am Ende noch weiter belebt wird. Die zweite Seite ist ein vierteiliges Werk mit dem Titel ,no one / no where / no one is free / until all are free", das sich durch Umgebungsgeräusche, elegische postklassische Streicher und verzerrte harmonische Drones zu einem Höhepunkt aus liturgischer Orgel, rituellen Glocken und schimmernden elektronischen Spuren entwickelt, der die Bühne bereitet für den letzten Song des Albums: die erschütternde Chor-Komposition ,until all are free", eine weltliche Hymne, die aus Jessicas mehrspurigen Gesangsaufnahmen besteht (die sie aber gerne mit anderen im Konzert singen würde). Unfolding ist ,einem freien Palästina in unserer Lebenszeit" gewidmet. Danke fürs Zuhören.

Im September 2024 kehrten Pilbeam und Agius nach Los Angeles zurück, um mit Melina Duterte zusammenzuarbeiten, die unter dem Namen Jay Som Indie-Rock aufnimmt und an einer Reihe von Projekten mitgewirkt hat, darunter das mit einem Grammy ausgezeichnete Album ,The Record" von boygenius. ,Mein letztes Album ist sehr düster und introspektiv geworden, und das ist zwar ein Teil von mir, aber es gab noch eine ganz andere Seite, die ich nicht zum Ausdruck gebracht habe", sagt Pilbeam. ,Ich bin eine hoffnungslose Romantikerin und eine sehr alberne Person, manchmal sogar bis zum Äußersten." Die heute 32-jährige, verheiratete Pilbeam stellte fest, dass ,ewige Gefühle" der Sehnsucht und des Herzschmerzes schnell zurückkehrten, als sie über ihre Erfahrungen als jüngere Frau nachdachte. Gleichzeitig ließ sie ihre Vorliebe für tragische Liebesfilme einfließen, in denen die Figuren nicht unbedingt ein gemeinsames Happy End finden. Liquorice beschäftigt sich mit der Endlichkeit des Ewigen. Diese Songs fangen die überwältigenden, berauschenden und transformierenden Nebenwirkungen der Verliebtheit ein, auch wenn die gesamte Liebesgeschichte nur eine einzige magische Nacht dauert. Wie die reichhaltigen Aromen der gewundenen, titelgebenden Süßigkeit - süß, salzig und bitter in einem Bissen - bestätigt Liquorice, wie Sehnsucht und Besessenheit in der Selbstfindung einer jungen Frau miteinander verflochten sind.

Emile Sornin has a robot in his life. It's not love, but it's not friendship either, and Forever Pavot is releasing an album documenting the affair on Born Bad. After a bunch of bold pop studio albums and a small stack of soundtracks, Emile needed a break. To put an end to it, he embarked with handyman extraordinaire Jonas Euvremer on the manufacture of an automaton destined to make his musician’s life easier. Melchior, who gave his name to the record, has the face of a ventriloquist's dummy, two plastic left hands, preppy clothes and a primitive logic circuit. This goodie two-shoes cousin of Bender’s is supposed to be doing the interviews and deal with socials for Emile. The plan worked admirably : Melchior is a perfect cover-boy, and his very existence has put our man back to work.



They set a path for phat electronic ventures (and by the way, mostly english-speaking). Sub- continental bass & massive drums, heavy-footed and unabashed : as much appreciated as unexpected. The half-android shares songwriting credits and vocal parts vocoded to perfection. Not a jealous lad, Melchior makes way for a guest of choice on “UFO” and “Waiting for the sign” : Lispector. Julie Margat sings and collaborated on the lyrics for these two bangers that provide a lot of context (robot angst is real). Kumisolo, our favorite Japanese « it » girl in Paris, also sent her “Postcard”, more vapour than song, unreal musical cotton candy of arrangements.


Domotic, who mixes and co-produces, gives a nice spin to “Count to 10”, a hip-hop/kraut crossover with a BEAK> flavour. The Forever Pavot, once a big-band, will be touring as a bass/ drums/keys & vocals trio, with Melchior as guest.



Record after record, Emile Sornin has become an increasingly literate musical illiterate. When needed, his music can still become a thicket of ancient and modern finds. « Le robot gentilhomme », a skillful pastiche of baroque composer Jean-Baptiste Lully, would stand a few rounds against Wendy Carlos. His love for oldies also shines through “Skyway”, a nod to the late Pierre Arvay, France’s Colonel Sanders of library music nuggets.



Forever Pavot may have gone wild, but remains indebted vis-à-vis the golden age of film music. Forebears deluxe Ennio Morricone & François de Roubaix make Hitchcock-style cameos: discreet appearances that you’ll watch out for (those syncopated cascades of syllables at the end of « UFO », and I guess we can indulge with some clavichord/ondioline Victoria sponge). His new flirt is all but a toxic relationship. « Melchior, Vol. 1 »: the robo-bromance is not over yet.
