Die türkisch-italienische DJ, Produzentin und Multiinstrumentalistin Carlita (bürgerl. Carla Frayman) veröffentlicht ihr lang erwartetes Debütalbum, „Sentimental“ bei Ninja Tune!
„Sentimental“ ist der bisherige Höhepunkt von Carlitas musikalischer Reise, an der sie jahrelang gearbeitet hat. Das Album stellt einen kreativen Meilenstein in ihren Produktionen dar, indem es eine klangliche Erzählung aufbaut, die ihre Lebenserfahrungen als Bausteine nutzt. Ein paar dieser Momente, zusammen mit einer Reihe von talentierten Freunden, sind auf „Sentimental“ aus erster Hand zu hören. „Trouble Symphony“ eröffnet das Album mit DJ Tennis, der wie schon zu Beginn von Carlitas Karriere mit am Start ist. SG Lewis, der gefeierte Produzent, der Carlita letztes Jahr bei der New York Fashion Week Show von Senza Fine begleitete, leiht der Leadsingle, „The Moment“, seine Stimme. „Comme Ça Voce“ greift ihre italienischen Wurzeln auf und wird von dem sizilianischen Musiker, Orofino, gesungen. Mascolo, Elderbrook, Julietta und Cleo Simone vervollständigen die Liste der geschätzten Kolleg:innen, die ihre Zeit und ihr Talent zu „Sentimental“ beigetragen haben.

Pascal Obispo, französischer Singer-Songwriter aus Bergerac, begann 1988 ber der New-Wave-Band Senso als Bassist und übernahm später die Rolle des Leadsängers. Sein erstes Soloalbum, Le Long du Fleuve, erschien 1990 und wurde mit den Mitgliedern von Senso aufgenommen. Das Album blieb von den Kritikern weitgehend unbeachtet, aber es verhalf Pascal Obispo zu einem Plattenvertrag mit Epic, wo 1992 Plus Que Tout au Monde erschien. Mit dem Titeltrack und anderen Singles wie Tu vas me manquer" festigte er seinen Status als einer der am schnellsten aufsteigenden Stars der französischen Popmusik. Diesem Erfolg ließ er 1994 Un Jour Comme Aujourd'hui folgen, das Platz 17 der französischen Charts erreichte und mit Platin ausgezeichnet wurde. Sowohl Superflu (1996) als auch Soledad (1999) erreichten in Frankreich Platz 2, und das Live-Album Live 98 (1998) brachte ihm seine erste Nummer-1-Platte ein. In den folgenden Jahren wiederholte Pascal Obispo dieses Kunststück noch einige Male mit den Alben Studio Fan - Live Fan (2004), Les Fleurs du Bien (2006), Millésimes (2013) und Billet de Femme (2016). France, sein elftes Album, erschien 2021 und verfehlte nur knapp den Spitzenplatz der Albumcharts und landete auf Platz 2. Das neue Album L'Archipel des Séquelles besteht aus unveröffentlichten Songs von Pascal Obispo - aufgenommen und abgemischt von seinem treuen Begleiter Youri Benaïs in seinen Pariser Studios. Dieses Konzeptalbum mit intimen, akustischen, jazzbeeinflussten Liebesliedern wurde erneut von seinen beiden New-Wave-Jazz-Freunden Fred Nardin und Max Pinto produziert und basiert ausschließlich auf Begegnungen mit Künstlerinnen mit inspirierenden Stimmen: Da wären Zazie, mit der Obisipo seit ,Les meilleurs ennemis" nicht mehr gesungen hatte, mit einem Lied, das sie gemeinsam geschrieben und nie aufgenommen hatten, Carla Bruni, die zwei Songs beisteuert, Elodie Frégé, mit der er bereits auf ihrem Album ,Le grand amour" gemeinsam aufgenommen hat. Oder Nolwenn Leroy, für die er seine allererste Single ,Cassé" produziert hat. Anne Sila, die grandiose Interpretin der Maria in seinem Musical über Jesus von Nazareth. Sharon Laloum, die Interpretin der Myriam in der neuen Version der Zehn Gebote, und nicht zu vergessen sind Isabelle Boulay, die große Künstlerin aus Quebec, für die er bereits Lieder geschrieben hat, und Nawel Ben Kraïem, die junge tunesische Künstlerin, mit der er an seinem ersten Musikprojekt gearbeitet hat. Der Rest des Albums wurde gemeinsam mit Pierre-Dominique Burgaud geschrieben. Mit dem Album ,L'archipel des Séquelles" setzt Pascal Obispo seine Suche nach Schönheit und Stille fort. The massive rave icon Ellis Dee, one of the biggest producers on the planet brings his unique blend of piano sounds to the hands in the air anthem Warehouse Crew by DJ KOS, as well as featuring the original. DJ Ande has gone a little different with his hardcore tune Trip Home Pt 1 which is a nod to the classic hardcore tunes Trip to the Moon by Acen. To round things off web ring back DJ Terrace to hammer home a wicked tune in Top Gun which makes this another belter of an EP not to be missed.

KahruMusiqa ist eine musikalische Retrospektive der tunesischen Sängerin und Komponistin Badiâa Bouhrizi alias Neysatu. Sie ist als Autorin der Protestsongs bekannt, die zu den Hymnen der tunesischen Revolution wurden. KahruMusiqa bedeutet elektronische Musik, wird aber im Arabischen nie als solche verwendet, um das Genre zu bezeichnen. Das Album ist eine Sammlung von Klangexperimenten, die entstanden, als sie in den 2000er Jahren erstmals Musikproduktionssoftware in die Hände bekam. Die Stücke basieren auf Gedichten in klassischem Arabisch oder tunesischem Dialekt, die Badiâa selbst oder von ihr bewunderte Dichterinnen wie die palästinensischen Autorinnen Fadwa Tuqan oder Salma Al Jayusi oder den tunesischen Dichter Noureddine Werghi verfasst hat. Die meisten der Gesangsstücke sind Improvisationen, die mit einem Computermikrofon aufgenommen wurden. Eine Bearbeitung des klassischen türkischen Volkslieds Muhabbat ist fast eine moderne harmonische Neufassung, bei der nur klassische Gitarre, Gesang und Delays verwendet werden. Die Themen von KahruMusiqa entsprechen dem ideologischen Weg von Badiâa Bouhrizi. In dem Lied Transrimel ist sie eine queere Frau im sich bewegenden Sand von Tunesien. Sie hinterfragt auch den politischen Vertrag, der 1948 zu Balfour und der Vertreibung von Millionen von Palästinensern führte, und beschreibt in Fil Madinatil harima ("In The Old City") eine Reise zwischen London und Nablus. Dieses elektronische Schlafzimmer-Album im Lo-Fi-Stil enthält auch mehrere Songs, die wie Ila Selma zu Klassikern des arabischen Underground-Milieus geworden sind, und ist die erste Platte, die Badiâa Bouhrizi überhaupt zu veröffentlichen bereit war.

Als Baby Woodrose 2016 eine Pause einlegte, änderte Frontmann und Songwriter Lorenzo Woodrose seinen Namen in seinen richtigen Namen Uffe Lorenzen. Er wechselte auch in seine Muttersprache Dänisch und veröffentlichte von 2017 bis 2021 drei Soloalben. Danach gründete er ein neues Power-Trio mit seinen alten Freunden Palle Demant am Bass und Jens Eyde am Schlagzeug. Die neue Band nannte sich Lydsyn und veröffentlichte 2022 ihr selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum. Jetzt schreiben wir das Jahr 2024 und die Band ist bereit, ihr zweites Album mit dem Titel ,Hojspændt" (was man mit Hochspannung übersetzen könnte) zu veröffentlichen, und das ist sicherlich ein passender Titel. Das Album wurde im berühmten Sweet Silence Studio in Kopenhagen von dem legendären Produzenten Flemming Rasmussen aufgenommen, der sich vor allem durch seine Arbeit an den Alben ,Ride The Lightning" und ,Master Of Puppets" von Metallica einen Namen gemacht hat.Lydsyn hat sich dem analogen Hörerlebnis verschrieben. Keine Backing Tracks, Auto-Tune oder Pro-Tools und ,all der Scheiß", wie die Band es ausdrücken würde. Abgesehen von ein paar Overdubs wurden die 10 Songs live im Studio aufgenommen und das merkt man auch an der dynamischen Performance. Die Songs auf ,Hojspændt" sind noch härter als die auf dem Debütalbum, und der Hardrock-Aspekt wurde aufgedreht, während die psychedelische Seite zurückgedreht wurde. Unter all dem Gepolter haben die Songs aber auch eine eingängige Seite, die sich schon nach wenigen Durchläufen im Gehirn festsetzt. Für Fans von Monster Magnet, QOTSA, Wolfmother ,Hojspændt" wird am 25. Oktober auf Vinyl und digitalen Plattformen veröffentlicht. ,Musik Er Nummer 1" wird als erste digitale Single am 6. September veröffentlicht, begleitet von einem Live-Video, das bei zwei ausverkauften Shows im Loppen in Kopenhagen im April dieses Jahres aufgenommen wurde.

We bring you one of the best unreleased tunes we have had the pleasure of uncovering. "Come Down" was made in the same sessions as Kong's massive "He Was a Friend" (reissued by DKR back in 2010), and never released until now. Pure uptempo digital fire.

*Update - Sept. 2024: Some may remember that the mixdown of the version side of this tune had the bass drop out early on and never come back. This was odd and maybe even a mistake in the mix? But none the less, due to a puritanical impulse, we didn't trouble it. For this second time around for this 45, thru the miracles of modern science, the bassline has been added back to ride thru the verison side.

Phoebe Rings is a dream-pop band offering a unique blend of introspective yearning with celestial danceable grooves. Their self-titled debut EP, a hopeful collection of musings, out on Carpark Records, is a testament to the distinctive musical style of Auckland jazz-school-trained pianist and songwriter Crystal Choi. Across six tracks, the EP is a love letter to some of the band’s influences: Studio Ghibli films, Zelda and Stardew soundtracks, Bossa Nova, Stereolab, and 90’s Korean ballads.

In 2020, the band played their first gig in a ‘funny side room’ during a festival at Auckland Town Hall. Choi’s songwriting was brought to life with Alex Freer on drums, Simeon Kavanagh-Vincent on guitar and synths, and Benjamin Locke on bass. Choi says she knew the tracks had to be recorded after the band played the songs better than she could ever imagine. And so, remotely through the COVID-19 lockdowns, the band started recording the EP.

“Daisy” is the vibrant leading single, with the shimmery refrain “Ooh-wee-a-waa” and the uplifting mantra: “When you’re next to me, the world’s full of daisies.” The swirling synths fizz on the skin like warm sun, promising growth and new starts. “Cheshire” is an Alice in Wonderland-inspired trip through the rabbit hole, pacing in anticipation. “Like a Cheshire cat, it grins and disappears in moments when you accept yourself,” explains Choi. Locke and Choi finished the lyrics one evening, huddled in the corner of a local underground music venue, with references to Murakami’s book Dance Dance Dance.

Choi grew up in Seoul, developing a palette for K-pop and retro sounds. The city-pop influence of “January Blues” shines through, with Choi crediting one of her favourite songs from the ’80s: “연극이 끝난 후 After Play”. The track explores her disconnect with the summer break. “In the Northern Hemisphere, January is winter,” says Choi. “I missed that a lot, and I don’t vibe with the beach.”

“Spissky,” chimes in with Choi’s lilting vocals reminiscent of childhood lullabies, inspired by a lonely-looking castle she saw on tour with Princess Chelsea in Slovakia. While “Ocean” leans into its mumble-core roots, taking a leaf from the Cocteau Twins. There’s an external shift in the EP, with “Lazy Universe” being the most energetic track, evolving with the band’s chaotic sci-fi experimentation. Asking, “Are you still waiting for a kiss?” Choi is self-critical and urgently speaks up from being passive.

The members of Phoebe Rings are cemented in the musical ecosystem, balancing other projects and full-time work. Yet Sundays will always be carved out for Phoebe Rings to dream up imaginative, world-building tunes — often with a Nintendo game soundtrack in the background as inspiration.

The highly anticipated album from LAWRENCE is finally here and 15 years after the CD release for the first time available on vinyl!!!

Hamburg based DIAL and SMALLVILLE owner Peter Kersten aka LAWRENCE is one of the most valued and highly regarded artist's in the modern dance music community with a long history of releases on Nova Mute, Kompakt, Ladomat, Spectral, Ghostly, Mule and of course his own imprint DIAL. UNTIL THEN, GOODBYE kicks off with a special 'intro' version of a fan favourite FRIDAY'S CHILD followed by the introspective ambient piece SUNRISE. GREY LIGHT remarks the electronic style of DRUTTI COLUMN while JILL is purely sweet slow house music. The album shifts towards more acoustic driven material with songs such as FATHER UMBRILLO and TODERHAUSEN BLUES…don't fret purists as LAWRENCE hits back with his classic signature sounds with the likes of IN YOUR EYES, SLEEP and SUFFER. LAWRENCE leaves us with a whisper in the most beautiful of ways. The atmospheric ambient tune DON'T FOLLOW ME, the ebb and flow of the piano driven A NEW DAY and the title track leave the listener in a state of bliss. Dare we say, this is one of LAWRENCE's most daring and diverse albums to date…not necessarily a 'concept' album per say but definitely showcases his gift for provoking a remarkably diverse range of musical influences and styles.

The sophomore effort from Gray/Smith refines their petroleum-based, hard-lullaby sound with a decidedly dusty precision. To call this pair's brand of country-rock détournement "cosmic" would be too breezy: L. Gray and Rob Smith prefer to stare into sunken depths, channeling their recondite affections for lay-by mauve zones and red-dirt guitar wanderings. Formed in the outer-edges of Kings and Richmond counties circa 2020, Gray/Smith is something of an East-Coast involution. L. Gray (guitar and vocals) and Rob Smith (drums, guitar and vocals) are both trusty veterans of "band's bands" like Pigeons (Soft Abuse), No-Neck Blues Band (Revenant, Locust), Rhyton (Thrill Jockey), and The Suntanama (Drag City), freewheeling groups known for mining from polyglot sources: rough-hewn folk and the spiritual avant-garde, bargain-bin hard rock and and collector's-choice psychedelia alike. On their first, self-released LP Gray/Smith, serendipitously recorded at Gary's Electric at the top of 2021, the pair trained their assured chops onto the great American song-form, honing a murky but tight approach that variously cribs "urban cowboy" and finger-picked primitivism. A string of cryptic appearances soon followed, including a short-lived residency at a now-shuttered vodka dive; a micro-tour with Coloradan songstress Josephine Foster; and a series of backyard and barroom gigs sharing stages with compatriots like Stella Kola, Blues Ambush, Samara Lubelski, and Wednesday Knudsen. Heels in the Aisle is the slipshod, burnt-out, mid-'70s unter-prog comedown to their debut's backwoods, bushy-tailed, early-'70s, country-rock meanderings_expect more unrestrained riffs, artful studio wizardry, and worn-down introspection. Joining the ranks of bloodshot-eyed, blues-rock medleys à la Canned Heat's "Parthenogenesis" and Grand Funk's "Into The Sun," "The SDSPS" is the nearly side-length opening cut, an expanded song-cycle condensing and riffing on the themes of their debut. "Help Me" ventriloquizes Pomona College outlaw Kris Kristofferson's slow-roaring ballad of libidinal woe. On the flip side, "Verrazano Tile" and the title track pay heed to lower bays of Staten Island, while their arrangement of the traditional Zimbabwean tune "Guabi Guabi" is a bright Dead/Feat-like jaunt with blissed-out wah-wah pay-off. "Gaslight Boulevard" is lean, mean, and eight-beers-in space rock, and the closing track "Kekule's Ring" is a slack-jawed, wistful crash back down to earth. All this, packaged in a luxe, expertly-printed sleeve photographed by downtown artist Lary 7 and designed by Eric Wrenn (Sophie's Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides).

Nach einer rekordverdächtigen Welttournee im Jahr 2023, bei der alle Termine seines letzten Albums bereits Monate im Voraus ausverkauft waren, nahm sich Ben Böhmer Zeit für sich selbst und kehrte an den Ort zurück, der ihn am meisten anzieht: sein Studio. Dort kann er seine Leidenschaft für spontane Kreativität voll ausleben und sich unermüdlich darauf konzentrieren, sein Handwerk zu verfeinern, das es ihm erlaubt, tiefe, komplexe Gefühle auszudrücken.
Der Erfolg dieser Alben mit fast einer Milliarde Streams und mehr, und seine Fähigkeit, das Publikum live zu erreichen - er spielte über 200 Shows im Jahr 2022 -, trieben ihn auf einen Weg, der sich nicht mit dem deckte, was er wollte. Sein Songwriting- und Kompositionstalent tritt auf „Bloom“ in den Vordergrund, zusammen mit angesehenen Künstler:innen wie der Indie-Legende Lykke Li, dem Alt-Pop-Duo Oh Wonder, Enfant Sauvage (vom französischen Duo The Blaze) und anderen. Das Album enthält eine Vielzahl von Stilen und Tempi, die nur noch entfernt an frühere Tracks seiner Karriere erinnern.

Mit ihrem neuen Album „Sad Girl“ schlägt TSHA ein neues Kapitel auf, in dem sie ihren Tracks ihren eigenen stimmlichen Stempel aufdrückt und sich den Genres nähert, die sie schon immer ausprobieren wollte, anstatt die Anerkennung ihrer Kolleg:innen zu suchen. TSHA zeigt nicht nur die euphorischen oder melancholischen Seiten ihres Charakters, sondern stellt sie alle zur Schau. Es ist ein Werk, das zeigt, dass es in Ordnung ist, traurig zu sein, und dass man darin sogar schwelgen kann - schließlich kann man die Höhen nicht ohne die Tiefen haben.

Es ist das zweite Album des aufstrebenden britischen Stars und folgt auf das Debütalbum, „Capricorn Sun“, aus dem Jahr 2022, das auf einem hellen, melodischen House-Fundament aufbaute und britische Garage- und Rave-Einflüsse einbrachte. Das Album wurde vom DJ Mag und BBC Radio1 Dance zu ihrem jeweiligen Album des Jahres gekürt, während das Music Tech Mag TSHA zur Produzentin des Jahres kürte, was für eine weibliche Produzentin, deren Produktionsfähigkeiten oft übersehen werden, sehr viel bedeutet.

Während sie Freude an Hedonismus und Eskapismus findet, ist „Sad Girl“ auch ein Album, das schwierige Gefühle anspricht. Das Zwischenspiel, „Lonely Girl“, erzählt von ihrer isolierten Kindheit in der überwiegend weißen Stadt Fareham in der Nähe von Portsmouth, in der sie sich Märchen im Stil von „Secret Garden“ ausdachte. „Green“ entstand nach einem Streit mit ihrem Partner, wo sie offen über toxische Positivität singt (auf dem Album singt sie zum ersten Mal). TSHA mag in den DJ-Videos, die sie in den sozialen Medien postet, Selbstvertrauen ausstrahlen und von einem Ohr zum anderen grinsen, aber sie hat auch offen über ihre Probleme mit ihrem psychischen Wohlbefinden gesprochen.

Mit dem Albumtitel lässt sie ihre Teenagerjahre Revue passieren. Er ist eine Anspielung auf emo-mäßige MSN-Screennamen und Hotmail-Adressen - und man kann es in den Anflügen von 00er-Jahre-R&B, rauem Elektro und hymnischem Techno hören, die an die Bittersüße und die Angst des frühen Erwachsenseins erinnern. Zwischen den Momenten der Stille und des Nachdenkens ist es im Kern eine Dance-Platte: heiße Club-Stomper reiben sich an hypnotischen Floorfillern und MTV-tauglichem Pop.

A collection of 18 rare disco tracks from Yugoslavia. Compiled by Leri Ahel & Zeljko Luketic from original master tapes. Fox & His Friends label owners Ahel & Luketic selected obscure 7'' singles, b-sides, out-of-print releases and digged deep into the vaults of Jugoton to tell the story of how disco infiltrated clubs and pop music. This compilation is vinyl counterpart to their pioneering research and work in two major exhibitions tracing roots, influences and social significance of disco in music, fashion and design held in 2015 in Klovicevi Dvori Museum and HDD Gallery in Zagreb. "Socialist Disco - Dancing Behind Yugoslavia's Velvet Curtain 1977-1987" double gatefold LP with extensive liner notes contains tunes from KIM Band, Gabi Novak, Arian, Ljupka Dimitrovska, Ana Sasso, Moni Kovacic, Milka Lenac, Rok Hotel, Ivica Surjak, Grupa ST, Nano Prsa and many more in various sub-genres including classical orchestrated disco, dance reworkings of international chart hits and synth-filled italo-disco stompers performed by Yugoslavian music stars, fashion models and even sports and football heroes. Disco, a vital Trojan horse (in local notion: a pop music you can dance to), stayed quite a long time In Yugoslavia, refusing to be silenced and refusing to jump into the bandwagon of expected. It was influenced by American and European disco sound, for example, by the Boney M, Amanda Lear or Love Machine, who all visited Yugoslavia and had live concerts. The producers and the big record companies like Jugoton, PGP RTB, Diskoton or ZKP RTVL, noted the hype in music and they constantly probed the market with limited run of seven inchers or special performances. Some artists were quite successful, but the rest were in the 7'' single empire which was free enough to experiment with all things disco had to offer - genre hybrids, use of electronics, sexual innuendo, bizarre lyrics and most importantly, great musicians and major composers having fun. The no-restrictions policy of disco was there to evade the rules and surely it did.

By it's very nature "Radio Chevére", the new album by Rio 18 and their host of guests cannot be categorized simply: at once both a Latin mixtape and a radio show, it's also an internationalist love letter, an offering to the goddess of Tropical Music and all that it encompasses. Ambitious, yes. Foolhardy, possibly. But sincere, committed and FUNKY? Definitely.

With the voice of guest DJ Coco Maria as our guide, "Radio Chévere" takes us on a journey through myriad musical styles and stories. Stopping off at Uruguay, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, California, New York and countless other sonic destinations via Samba, Salsa, Funk, Cumbia, Joropo, Disco, Psychedelic and Electronic stylings, "Radio Chévere" is also a musical metaphor for migration - a journey from one continent, one life to another.

This album features songs in no less than four languages (Spanish, Portuguese, Welsh and English) and includes collaborations with Brazilian legends the +2's (Moreno Veloso, Kassin and Domenico Lancellotti) on the tender samba ballad, "Oh Minha Querida", transatlantic Yacht Rock gods Young Gun Silver Fox ("She's In LA"), "Sao Paulo's finest" Silvia Machete on the sweaty funk "Maybe Man" and Venezuelan Llanera and Joropo queen Luzmira Zerpa sings "Padre Tiempo", set to an incessant Afro-Venezuelan pulse. Why this torrent of eclectica now? Having recorded three albums in Welsh, predominantly inspired by Brazilian music, Rio 18 founder, Carwyn Ellis had a hard time following 2021's "Yn Rio": "We'd made a concept album with an orchestra. How do you follow that?" he says. "So I retreated to my laboratory, learned as much new music as I could, started learning Spanish too, and ended up writing tunes in a bunch of languages and styles, all of which reflected things I've learned or experienced over the last couple of years."

Since the group's inception in 2018, on the suggestion of Chrissie Hynde when he toured South America as a member of the Pretenders, Carwyn has been on a voyage of musical discovery through the styles of that continent. And in those five years he learnt a lot! But in a radical new move, Carwyn has stepped back from the mic, preferring to focus on writing and producing, handing over the vocal duties to band members Baldo Verdu (Venezuela) and Elan Rhys (Wales) plus a host of collaborators. "They can sing and express what I'm feeling so much better than I can, and both Elan and Baldo bring an authenticity and strength to our songs that surprise and elevate me. Collaborating with so many other inspiring artists on this album has helped us to grow and assimilate more styles - we're halfway through our next album already."

In discussing Elements of Light, his fifth album as a leader, the vibraphonist-composer Simon Moullier often returns to a specific term: unfolding.

“This is an important word — the unfolding of a song,” says Moullier, who was born in France and lives in New York. “It’s something I’m very attached to, and something I’m always working on.” As he explains, many of his essential influences —Wayne Shorter, Milton Nascimento, Toninho Horta, Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Ravel, — have been masterful unfolders in their writing. Moullier admires the movement and design in their music and harmony, the way one section of a tune leads into the next, everything flowing in a natural, beautiful, inviting way. Even the most serious intellectual musical concepts are rendered with a directness, a simplicity that can captivate a general audience. “For me, no matter how complex an idea can get,” he says, “clarity is always key.”

That’s a mature, evolved outlook for a millennial jazz musician to embrace, and it’s shared among Moullier’s youthful quartet featuring pianist Lex Korten, bassist Rick Rosato and drummer Jongkuk “JK” Kim. What’s more, these musicians of astonishing technical facility interact with the selflessness and good taste that Moullier’s song-focused music requires; to say it another way, they use their virtuosity to make the bandleader’s compositions sound as human and affecting as possible — never to preen."

Breaking the ice as the first track of this exceptional EP is Vincent Galgo and ‘African Rebel’. Mr Galgo has clearly read the brief here – giving us a 125bpm marauder that’s a melting pot of unstoppable horns, furious rhythms and an Afro-pop style bass that is the beating heart of the track.

Track 2 is Samosa regular Frank Virgilio who introduces us to his ‘Mistress’. As a straight up jazz-infused, mid-tempo rhythmic chugger, ‘Mistress’ quickly gets down to the important business of racking up the beats and instrumentation. The generous spread of guitar riffs, assertive bass and organ stabs are expertly lifted by the layered and always rolling drums and bongos induce a trance-like state of mind, so be warned!

On the B-Side Samosa newcomer Casper Leo wears his Tribal heart on his sleeve with the enchanting and utterly captivating jangler - ‘Tom Tom’. You can never have too much Kora guitar and ‘Tom Tom’ has lashings of it, with delicious sprinkles of melodic Marimba – perfect for West African sunsets.

Closing the EP off in style is Afro beats grand master, Lego Edit and the filthy-sexy ‘El Safari’. No other producer can take the essence of the Afro beat structure and bend it to their will like Lego Edit can. Like a late night fist-fight in Club Coco Bongo, ‘El Safari’ punches its way out of the doors. A slinky, wily alley cat of a tune that digs deep with its claws and doesn’t let go and another masterpiece from Lego Edit.

Sam Shepherd alias Floating Points hat heute angekündigt, dass sein neues Album, „Cascade“, am 13. September 2024 via Ninja Tune erscheint.

„Cascade“ ist eine Eruption unvollendeter Angelegenheiten. Ende 2022 fand sich Shepherd, der dafür bekannt ist, so frei zwischen den Genres zu wechseln, wie es sein Künstlername andeutet, in der kalifornischen Wüste wieder, um an etwas Neuem zu arbeiten. „Mere Mortals“, seine erste Ballettmusik, die in Zusammenarbeit mit dem San Francisco Ballet entstand, sollte eine Kollision von Klang und Tanz sein, die die antike Parabel von Pandora durch das Prisma der Technologie erforscht. Auf „Promises“, seinem Vorgängeralbum, das 2021 veröffentlicht wurde, tauschte er seine typischen modularen Synthesizer-Teppiche und komplizierten Drum-Patterns gegen luftige Traumlandschaften aus, die er mit dem legendären Saxophonisten, Pharoah Sanders, und dem London Symphony Orchestra entwickelte. Diese Zusammenarbeit war so beliebt, dass eine Mercury Prize-Nominierung und ein ausverkauftes Konzert im Hollywood Bowl im September 2023 folgten. Die neun Songs dürfen bis zu acht Minuten am Stück schwelen und funken, was eine weitreichendere Erkundung von Sounds und Grooves als zuvor ermöglicht. 'Unite' - Mark made this in the mid/ late 90s after working with vocalist Charmaine. Big distorted bass, 'Amen' drums and his trusty EMU sampler.

'To The Beginning' - Another late 90s creation, adding some P-Funk to the Amen drums with a Sub Bass filling the tune with heavy vibes.

'Oldskool Massive' - A more recently made dedication to the classic Belgium techno of early rave, with heavy 4/4, acid riffs and of course those distorted stabs and hoovers.

'Taking It Back' - Mark made this in 1998, and even then was taking you back to that classic 94 Jungle sound and loops.

Die Albumankündigung folgt auf seine allererste Nominierung bei den MOBO Awards 2024 in der Kategorie „Best Electronic/ Dance Act“ nach der Veröffentlichung von salutes EP, „Shield“, die von The FADER als „verträumt“ und von Clash als „Surging with spring-like energy“ gelobt wurde. „Shield“ folgte auf die früheren Singles „Joy“ und „Therapy“ und wurde von Künstlern wie Four Tet, DJ Seinfeld, Floating Points, Mall Grab, Daphni, Skrillex, Fred Again und anderen bestätigt, was ihn zu einer Kultsensation machte und die Bühne für ein größeres Album bereitete. salute wurde mit 18 Jahren in die britische Clubszene eingeführt, nachdem er nach Brighton und dann nach Manchester gezogen war. The Dutch-American legend Orlando Voorn is back on the block with a very, very yummy 4-tracker that is masterfully channeling his deep love for Detroit techno and Chicago house. “No Cellphones” recalls Green Velvet’s classic Relief Records sound, applying a sinister bouncer voice that commands everybody to put their f***ing cellphones away. It’s quite a tantalising idea to drop this tune at an Afterlife party. “Raise The Bar” is a primo minimal heater for prime time usage, classic Voorn intensity through and through. The flipside harbors two gorgeous, summerly house tracks with plenty of soul for those sun flooded festival floors. Orlando Voorn reigns supreme.

After the fast selling “Emolotion EP” on Italy’s “Mondo Phase” imprint and the “The Rise of Poseidon 1” on the Argentinian label “Calypso’s Dream” released last year we present you the final chapter of the early 00’s Electro and Electro Clash gems produced by Break 3000 while living in Maastricht and Cologne.

The first track is a remix made for the legendary “Pocketgame” label from Germany in 2003 that was run by Maru & Comix, released on the “We Are He-Man EP” by “STR & Tim Tycoon” that also featured a stellar “Legowelt” remix. This one is an absolute belter of a track and to this day is one of Break 3000’s favorite tunes he ever produced. Followed by the cool, dark and Cold-Wave’esque Electro cut “The Wait” that was released on a massive Compilation on “Pocketgame” that same year called “Bonuslevel One – North and South” with such amazing artists on it like “Steril”, “Ladytron”, “Mutron”, “Nitsch and Gleinser”, “Hong Kong Counterfeit” and of course the label heads “Maru & Comix”.

The B-side looks back in time even further. “Electric Blue” and “Spacemachinenreise” were released on “Meuse Muzique” from Maastricht and were on the “Maastricht-Liege EP” and the “Electric Kingdom EP” from 2002 and 2003. Lastly “Lectrolite #2” was released on a one-off vinyl release on Break 3000’s own “Casa Nova” imprint in 1999. And especially this tune marked the start of his Electro endeavors the following years.

So get your hands on these fine tunes once more with this special packaged and limited re-release. All tracks have been carefully re-mastered from the original tapes and sound better than ever! Play it LOUD!

The wide tapestry of sounds on ‘Inside Out’ reflects many of Richard's musical influences as a pianist. He has always strived to find his own voice when it comes to composition and improvisation, and this comes into focus with the music recorded here. The album features Richard's original compositions and two arrangements of tunes penned by the legendary Carla Bley. The album blends intricate melodies, evocative harmonies and energetic grooves alongside pieces where space becomes the sonic focus. When the band plays as a trio there is always a sense of exploration and freedom within the music and this feeling is what makes this band, and this record, a special one.

At the frayed bottom-edge of Indiana - just a moderate bike ride north of Louisville, Kentucky - multi-instrumentalist, artist and songwriter Ryan Davis' Americana-noir soundwaves have been emanating for years in a myriad of forms. As driving force for the lauded State Champion, long-running member of Tropical Trash, administrator of the esoteric and excellent Cropped Out festival, and lone proprietor of the Sophomore Lounge label, Davis lays down his first proper 'solo' release with Dancing On The Edge, a rich, 2LP tapestry of tunes that absolutely glows over seven expansive cuts. It's a pure collage of modernity and heritage. Recorded in early 2023 with help both in-studio and remotely from peers like Joan Shelley, Catherine Irwin (Freakwater), Will Lawrence (Felice Brothers, Gun Outfit, John Early), Jenny Rose (Giving Up), Christopher May (Mail the Horse), Elisabeth Fuchsia (Footings, Bonnie "Prince" Billy), and Aaron Rosenblum (Son of Earth, Sapat), the results herein are melancholic, gentle, minimal yet colorful in mood: a lilting highway accompaniment of crisp instrumentation and a relaxed, amiable approach to vocals with rhapsodic wordsmithery. Fans of the aforementioned artists as well as those of Souled American, David Berman, Kurt Vile and 'Comes A Time'-era Neil should all easily find bounty. While bare-boned and uncluttered in presentation, many of these pieces track over 6 minutes allowing a fair amount of expansiveness. Dancing On The Edge stares down into the navel of the American Experience underbelly with a fair amount of outward reach. Besides the Kosmische-synth and violin stabs reaching into a European element, stately organ swells build a musical bridge between 1969 Southern California and Felt's latter era smooth moves, with layers of intelligent gesture taking this well beyond the realm of its archetypal indie troubadour/acoustic songwriter tag. Music and mint juleps never went down so well together." Folly Group become the first band on Ninja Tune imprint Technicolour

The four-piece of Sean Harper, Louis Milburn, Kai Akinde-Hummel and Tom Doherty formed in the tumultuous melting-pot of the London musical circuit. „Prism Of Pleasure“ wurde in 18 Monaten geschrieben und fasst Elkkas Wesen als eine LGBTQI+-Künstler:in zusammen, die Freiheit und Sinnlichkeit in den Vordergrund ihrer Arbeit stellt. Das war nicht immer so: Geboren und aufgewachsen in Südwales, wo es so gut wie keine Queer-Community in ihrer unmittelbaren Umgebung gab, musste Elkka ihre Identität langsam und neugierig zusammensetzen und dabei allmählich zu sich selbst finden. Nachdem sie sich geoutet hatte und in ihren 20ern nach London zog, begann die Musikerin mit dem Auflegen, Schreiben und Produzieren, was schließlich dazu führte, dass sie ihr eigenes Plattenlabel, femme culture, gründete und ihre eigenen queeren Clubnächte veranstaltete. „Prism Of Pleasure“ ist wie ein weiblicher Blick in einen dampfenden Raum voller Wunder (ein Konzept, das sich wunderbar im pinkfarbenen Albumcover widerspiegelt, das von Elkkas Frau und langjähriger kreativer Mitarbeiterin Alex Lambert fotografiert wurde), das sich um den Begriff der queeren Intimität dreht.
