The Fifth Chapter comes on the back of what has undoubtedly been Beverley’s most successful period ever as the iconic Ms Knight celebrates 30 years making music with several top 10 albums and over a million UK albums sold.
UK national TV appearances will support the album release - we expect Royal Variety, Strictly, Sunday Brunch, The One Show and BBC Breakfast news performances and interviews, while Beverley has already appeared on ITN News, and GoggleBox on the launch of the album.
Beverley will take on her biggest ever UK tour throughout October and November, to over 30,000 people, ending with a headline date at the London Palladium on November 14th. The album brings together some of the greatest contemporary songwriting talent including Diane Warren, Seb Coe, Ollie Green and Andrew Roachford, as well as co-production with the likes of AC Burrell, Jimmy Hogarth, Mitch Allen & Josh Cohen/DJ Waldie, The Fifth Chapter is a spectacular journey through the inspirations that have defined her incredible career.
Beverley has collected numerous awards and accolades including an MBE, three MOBO Awards, numerous Brit and Mercury Music Prize nominations and, most recently, an Olivier Award for her role as Emmeline Pankhurst in the critically acclaimed musical SYLVIA at London's Old Vic Theatre. She also recently appeared as a judge on Starstruck alongside Adam Lambert, and Shania Twain.

In 1995 the self-titled full-length debut of Die Anarchistische Abendunterhaltung (DAAU) was released. The band consisted of four young, 'classically derailed' musicians who played their own compositions with acoustic instruments such as violin, cello, clarinet and accordion. Their work contained influences from Roma music, Eastern European folk, klezmer and jazz, but was performed with the energy, rebellious spirit and Sturm und Drang of a bona fide punk band. DAAU was part of the fertile Antwerp scene, which also produced dEUS, Zita Swoon and Kiss My Jazz, and soon signed an international record deal with Sony Classical.

The group's influential first record, which has been out of print for a while, is now finally being released again and is available on vinyl for the very first time.

In those early days, DAAU consisted of four young, classically trained musicians who tackled their instrumental compositions with a true punk spirit. 'If we'd had guitars, bass or drums at that time, we would probably have been just another rock band', says accordionist Roel Van Camp, who, together with his schoolmates Buni Lenski on violin, the latter's brother Simon on cello and Han Stubbe on clarinet made up the Antwerp quartet. 'With our acoustic instruments we tried to create our own version of the music we loved listening to, from sixties rock and prog to new wave.'

The quartet, which initially played in streets and cafes, appealed to a diverse audience and sometimes joked that they were a classically trained unit that had 'gone off the rails'. 'As befits teenagers, we wanted to shake things up', Stubbe remembers, 'even though we always kept cherishing our classical backgrounds.' Van Camp: 'Our education was never supposed to feel like a straitjacket. We were free-spirited enough to ignore the laws and regulations of the music academy and to create our own sound. Our compositions were open to influences from Roma music, Eastern European folk, klezmer and jazz'. 'That eclecticism was a direct result of the zeitgeist', Han Stubbe adds. 'We loved different styles and happily mixed them together'.

The monniker Die Anarchistische Abendunterhaltung was derived from Steppenwolf, a novel by German writer Hermann Hesse about a character who was outside society. 'In the book, the narrator talks of a theatre', Van Camp explains. 'And at the entrance there is a warning sign sign that says: if you go in here, you are guaranteed to lose your mind. That was an apt description of the way our music worked'.

Almost all tracks on DAAU's first album were 'Drieslagstelsels' (or 'three-course rotations'). The term referred to an agricultural method of the early Middle Ages, but also to the fact that each song of the group consisted of three major movements. Van Camp: 'The titles of those pieces referred to our method of writing. We piled up a huge bunch of ideas, because we wanted to tell more than just one story. With each composition, we took the listener for a ride'.

Antônio Carlos Jobim was a primary force behind the evolution of bossa nova and his 6th studio release Stone Flower is an absolute classic. The album is emblematic of 70’s bossa with it’s seductive samba beat fused with elements of modern jazz provided by a star-studded supporting cast of Ron Carter, Hubert Laws, Airto Moreira, and Joe Farrell. Stone Flower was recorded by Blue Note engineering virtuoso Rudy Van Gelder and arranged by fellow pianist and guitarist Eumir Deodato; the fidelity and musicality is so well cared for that it effortlessly carries listeners away.

Jay Tripwire has popped up a lot recently, which is always going to be good news for fans of those freaky late-night tech sounds that he is so well known and loved for. He kicks off Serenity's fifth release here alongside Jehr on 'Magic Man', a deep cut underlapping drum funk and lots of whirring machine sounds.

Parisian space techno talent Cyberduck then takes care of both tunes on the flip - firstly 'Arzach', a deep and dynamic cut that hurriedly scans a vast cosmic world with silvery drums and lush melodies. Then 'Cerclon' gets a little more edgy, with dark and nagging baselines moving up through the mix as the crisp, well-swung tech drums power along.

Greece’s ecstatic ritual singer, pianist, and ambient composer Maroulita de Kol announces her debut album Anásana, a record of deeply traditional Hellenic ceremonial cultures interwoven with contemporary experimental colour.

Athens-raised, Berlin-based Maroulita de Kol creates music formed from the ancient, pre-Christian rites and practices of Greece, newly re-presented through a contemporary lens. A former student of classical piano and voice, an unbreakable bond with her homeland


yielded an extensive and ongoing dive into the mythologies, arts and storytelling of ancestral Greece. These studies eventually guided her to the debut solo works that make up Anásana.

The instrumentation and themes of Anásana borrow both from the ancient ecstatic ritual of historical Greece and meditative electronic ambient music. Flowing lines of deeply learned piano technique clothe traditional Hellenic folksong. And while its imagery was unmistakably born in Greece, its tones are inflected by de Kol’s time in Berlin and her immersion in its electronic and experimental scenes. “My music is an act of freedom and beauty,” she explains. “Hymns that aim for the restoration of Women's faith; they can heal the collective wound of the feminine.”

SoHaSo keeps finding lost gems in the rich soil of the Dutch electronic underground. You might know P.A. Presents from his epic Entangled EP (1995) or his many releases on U-Trax. When SoHaSo informed if he had any dusty DAT tapes laying around from that particular period in the 90s, Peter Aarsman started digging. And found plenty of goodies. Here's six tracks which will beam you right back the last century, when names like Carl Craig, Drexciya and Bola were household names among the lovers of funky, melancholic electronica. Whether it's moody strings, otherworldly melodies or syncopated break beats, P.A. delivers on his Lost Voices EP. Like on the 4Hero-esque Drum 'n Tech or the mysterious and jumpy electro vibes on Vice. On Drop It and closing track Lost Voices the Dutch producer goes into full club modus. This is techno that used to fill up warehouses in windy harbor neighborhoods. Be sure to check the Drexiyan remix by Proxyan, who masters the art of deduction on his skeleton-like remix of Vice.

Creevy beschreibt "I Don't Want You Anymore" als ein "reifes" Album, was mehr mit ihrer persönlichen Entwicklung zu tun hat, als mit dem Album selbst, das in wahrer Cherry Glazerr-Manier am besten als Extremely Fun beschrieben werden kann. Für die Produktion des Albums hat sich Creevy mit dem Produzenten Yves Rothman zusammengetan, der vor allem für seine Arbeit mit Yves Tumor bekannt ist. Die Leadsingle "Soft Like a Flower" ist ein Beispiel für diese Entwicklung. Ein düsteres Gitarrenriff leitet den Track ein, bevor Creevys unverhüllter Gesang einsetzt. Sie singt von einer verzehrenden Besessenheit und wird im Refrain von ihrer langjährigen Bandkollegin Sami Perez unterstützt. Es ist ein stolzes, gefühlvolles Stück, das Creevy einen "Evanescence-Moment" nennt. "Es ist ein echter `losing your fucking shit'-Style", sagt sie. "Ich wollte, dass dieses Album nur aus Herz und Seele besteht. Völlig offen." "I Don't Want You Anymore" nutzt das Element der Überraschung zu seinem Vorteil; jeder Track ist eine radikale Neuinterpretation dessen, was Cherry Glazerr ist und sein kann. "Bad Habit" beginnt mit einer spiralförmigen Gesangsschleife, die Creevy zu Hause aufgenommen hat, und entwickelt sich zu einem delirierenden Downtempo-Dance-Track, ohne dass jemals eine Gitarre zum Einsatz kommt. Der darauf folgende Track "Ready for You" wird im funkigen Stakkato gesungen, und die anfänglich sparsame Bassline in der ersten Strophe wird schließlich von einem massiven, statischen Gitarrenriff überholt, das einen daran erinnert, dass es sich hier im Kern um ein Rockalbum handelt. Dies sind Songs, die das Leben des Hörers untermalen, eine Partitur, die zu jeder Gelegenheit passt. Das titelgebende Stück ist ein Versprechen an eine namenlose Person, aber der sich wiederholende Text in der Bridge könnte genauso gut als Liebesbrief an den Hörer dienen: "In the end, you're always holding me."

Das Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project, das sich aus Teilen des legendären Gun Clubs, Freund*innen des Sängers Jeffrey Lee Pierce (1958-1996) und Fans des Künstlers zusammensetzt, präsentiert mit "Axels & Sockets" den dritten Teil eines außergewöhnlichen Projekts. Mit Künstler*innen wie Nick Cave, Debbie Harry, Mark Lanegan, Lydia Lunch, Warren Ellis, Mick Harvey und Kid Congo Powers sind hier viele bekannte Namen der ersten zwei Teile "We Are Only Riders" und "The Journey Is Long" vereint. Zum ersten Mal dabei sind keine Geringeren als Mark Stewart, Thurston Moore, Primal Scream, Andrew Weatherall und Punkikone Iggy Pop! Koordiniert von Pierce"s musikalischem Wegbegleiter Cypress Grove, schaffen es die Musiker*innen auch beim dritten Teil, aus Songskizzen, Demoaufnahmen, Riffs, Textfetzen und Soundschnippseln, die Pierce vor seinem Tod aufgenommen und niedergeschrieben hatte, neue und atemberaubende Songs zu machen.

S. O. R. M sind ein Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Act aus Lidkoping, Schweden. Kurz nach der Bandgründung veröffentlichte S. O. R. Mit 'If You Ask Me To...' erscheint nun die erste LP unter seinem Namen für das Label - eine exzellente Sammlung an Singles, die zwischen 2007 und 2023 veröffentlicht wurden, sowie unveröffentlichten Tracks von Sugar Minott und Binky Griptite. Der Ursprung des Albums liegt in einer Anfrage von Daptone nach einem Sharon Jones-Remix (2007), aus dem die Reggae-Version von 'How Long Do I Have To Wait For You?' hervorging.
