Another round of wonderful eclectic delights from Balearica. Side A features the in demand 'Tony's Song' by Tony G. Originally released back in '88, this floorfilling electro-tinged house classic features an incredibly catchy piano riff, phat bassline and some spoken vocals taken from Al Pacino's 'Scarface'. A massive hit both at Amnesia in Ibiza as well as at Manchester's Hacienda and at the early Acid House parties, this track still sounds super fresh. Next up is the dope vocoder-laden groove of Escape from New York's 'Slow Beat' - a brilliant Balearic chugger that features high on many most-wanted lists. On the flipside, we get the much desired slo-mo disco of Steve Bender's 'The Final Thing' - a moog-heavy groover that hit big at both the Balearic parties and on Italy's Cosmic scene. Then finally, to round off this great compilation is the extended instrumental version of Bowie & Methany's 'This Is Not America' - a favourite of everyone from Alfredo to Theo Parrish. Quality stuff!

Tokyo-based producer Crystal breaks out with two tracks meant to shred the dark veil of night to reveal a golden sunrise. According to Crystal, he is generating "straight house music... piano, phrase sampling, energetic vocals, etc." 'Break the Dawn' revels in this simplicity, using a meditative sample to set a groove that crescendos over and over with massive vocal blasts and drum breaks. "From Red To Violet" conjures a panoramic gradient of a Jupiter sunset by using a piano riff ruffle, cascading synth frills and lasers from another era of decadence and disco dance.

After over a decade of DJing together, the two friends formed Coyote in 2004, to produce music. Then in 2007, Is It Balearic Recordings was born, initially with the humble aim of making their own productions available to the public. Since then Timm & Ampo, and Is It Balearic have established a new Balearic Network, extending out from the UK to Portugal, Italy, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Lithuania, Norway, Belgium, New York, Ibiza, and Japan. Marrying pre-Roland early '80s US dance music with his love of early '90s Andrew Weatherall remixes, his playful and intricate productions aim to surprise the listener. In a dance music world ever-more saturated by imagination-free releases,
Marr is taking a refreshing quality-over-quantity approach. A songwriter and multi-instrumentalist as well as a producer and engineer, his inspirations include David Bowie and Prince. A music obsessive all his life, his first encounters with dance music were the acid house records which augmented his vinyl collection of rock and soul, and attending all night parties under Brixton's St Matthews church. Traveling to the south of England to watch DJ Harvey play an lengthy set, and armed with a mixtape of left-field disco in his hand from his old friend and sparring partner, Felix Dickinson, he was opened up to the kind of journey a dj could construct.

Playing all of the EU and in the US- Marr aims to show the scope of his influences from house and disco, peppering his sets with new, unreleased grooves and his own personal edits of classic material.

Now i love machine music BUT... instead of using a sample - perhaps from a 1981 boogie record - I played all the parts to imitate an expensively-produced 1981 US Dance record. As the track evolved, the elements had to all be played by hand and then tightened in the computer just enough to start to sound like top-line session men from 1981. (I can play a bit but I'm just in total awe of those guys- I need a computer to help me to play intricate parts for 7 minutes non-stop!)

That was after a heavy night, I was making my morning coffee- Still half asleep- I found i had no milk in the flat. So, bleary-eyed and hungover, I went to the local store. I got the melody on the way to the shop. The interlocking bassline and timbale percussion part came on the way back. By the time I sat down at the computer I had the whole song. I mapped it straight away. With the sounds I chose, I wanted to nod to early 90s Andy Weatherall production which I love.

The spoken-word part came about later on. After she'd sung my melody, I got the wonderful Helena Ward to impersonate the voice of Ornella Muti, who played Princess Aura in 1980 kitch-fest 'Flash Gordon'. She kidnaps Flash and takes him to her 'secret pleasure moon'.

The years are 1978 - 1980, Wuss + Lamb and Nick Monaco join forces to bring you edits of two mega hits to relaunch the infamous Wolf + Lamb Black Label.

With releases on a who's who list of labels that are pushing experimental, underground house and techno including L.I.E.S, Creme Organisation, Echovolt and Strange Life, William Burnett has been steadily putting out releases that have gained a lot of respect without having to shout too loud about it. So much so that as well as running his own stella WT Records label, William is now often cited as a producer's producer. Deep and full of dub aesthetics that encompasses a world of it's own, his music is not just driven by a need to keep the floor moving, but are also about taking your headspace somewhere else. Progressing things a stage further is the Black Deer project. Recently launched, but in gestation for some time, it's introspective slant, plus loose referencing to his upbringing in Texas, allows William more freedom for experimentation. The Last Tortuga is taken from the same sessions that yielded the Willie Burns The Overlord EP on Trilogy Tapes as well as Black Deer's Trail Of Tears EP on Rush Hour, this 6 track EP has been due on the label for sometime, but it's been worth the wait as his sound has developed and expanded in to ambient and drone pieces not seen before and highlight the inner realms of his (at times stand-up comic) mind in a new light that fits the label's aims.

DJ Raw Sugar is a native of Berlin, but has done a 6 year stint in New Zealand and now resides in Perth. His productions are deep and raw house beats mixed with jazz, boogie, disco, funk and soul.
Over the years he has put out music via other people's labels like Gazeebo International, Midnight Riot and ISM, but is now taking matters into his own hands via Love Sexy Records - a label he has just started.

purpose to join Cómeme in 2011. This collective of musicians and artists, operating between Latin America and Europe, is known for a killer instinct in producing forward thinking dance music beyond any standards of contemporary music industry. Focusing on serving dance music audiences all around the globe, Philipp Gorbachev composes, produces and performs music in a way that resembles the heritage axe of Russian avant-garde and
Moscow's Conceptualist movement rather than following any current dance music tradition. Based on a unique performing and recording technique - created and tested together with his buddy Matias Aguayo in 'The District Union' studio in Berlin - 'Silver Album' is a well-collected music
piece consisting of nine live performed arrangements, crafted with insurgent Russian lyrics that are fable-like inventions, fairy tales that deal with spiritual vibes, using the sound of the Russian language in order to form a new alternative music.

Musicians like ex-Helmet-and-now-Battles drummer John Stanier, as well as co-producers and mixing engineers like Butthole Surfer's guitarist Paul Leary; Mexican Cómeme brother Daniel Maloso; or Non Standard Productions head honcho and Ostgut Ton artist Tobias Freund, have been welcomed by Philipp Gorbachev to take part in the production of the record.
The first single of the Silver Album, called - Arrest Me' is a dedication to the imprisoned people around the world, a journey starter towards freedom of spirit, pioneering in never before expressed sounds,

Ruf Dug turns in an excellent wobbly boogie tinged version with a re-recorded vocal by Ruffy himself that takes in disco elements whilst punchy piano chords keep it hooky.

Nightsun plays out like a theatrical play of different sections and is intriguing from the first beat (although it is over 2 mins before the 4/4 kicks in!) and continues to surprise throughout its 8 minute playing time…with psyched out melodies alongside snappy percussion and a “womp womp” bassline before entering a final stage that goes for an almost heads down vibe.

Seahawks do the seemingly impossible and crank up the psych meter to full throttle making Nightsun and even grander experience with a running time of just over 12 minutes! The listening equivalent of Lord Of The Rings, this is epic, beautiful & an absolutely stunning piece of work…

Soul of Disco series Z Records continues to release high quality compilations filled with lesser known disco, funk and
boogie.
Now it's the return of the highly regarded Under The Influence series with Volume Four compiled by Nick The Record.
My whole life has revolved around records.
I was buying Hip Hop and House in the Eighties as it was released and I got
heavily into tracing the steps back through breaks and sample sources that were used in Hip Hop records. I also joined the
dots between Disco & modern club & House music & spread my music explorations from Rare Groove to rare Disco. There
were very few people interested in this vein of music history at the time & even fewer as obsessed as me so when the reemergence
of Disco exploded I was well ahead of the curve, not only in collecting but historical knowledge. The best thing
about record collecting is it never ends and after 35 years of buying, after 25 years of selling & playing records there is still old
stuff to discover & new releases to endeavour to keep up with.
So as something of an expert in all things Disco I get quite a few offers to release compilations but as a record obsessive my
natural hoarding mentality makes me cautious to give up the goods. As anyone who's been aware of my record selling
website www.djfriendy.co.uk over the last 10 years and my paper sales lists (now that's old school) for more than 10 years
preceding, I could easily put together a compilation of the rarest Disco & Boogie 12 inches, and there are, of course, some
of those included but I wanted to share more than that here.
I feel this 'Under The Influence' series offers the chance to put together a more personal comp, which reflects the many
different flavours of my taste & my collection & gives you a feel of my DJ style at the same time.

Following on from the phenomenal success of the recent 'Remixed With Love' compilation plus more Joey Negro compiled albums including 'GoGo Get Down', 'Backstreet Brit Funk', 'Destination Boogie' and the ever-popular Soul of Disco series Z Records continues to release high quality compilations filled with lesser known disco, funk and boogie. Now it's the turn of 'Italo House' to get the JN selection treatment with over 20 tracks hand picked from the late 80's and early 90's covering a lot of the deeper classics and some lesser known releases from a golden era of Italian dance music. The late 80s were undoubtedly a golden era for dance music. A time which saw the birth of many genres and sub genres - from acid house to hardcore to Balearic - and of course Italo house. If you ask Jo Raver to name an Italo house track, they'd probably come back with Blackbox, Jinny, Fiddlefatti or one of many big piano tune. At the same time there was another equally distinctive sound coming out of Italy- a warmer, deeper, more emotional style which didn't yield any commercial hits. The sound was more jazzy and soulful with syncopated percussion, dreamy pads and, though piano was often used, it wasn't in the obviously programmed, big breakdown style which became a cliché of the Italo house genre. This more underground side of Italo was closer to the original American house sound- but still retained a very European flavour. In common with other Z compilations which have featured Britfunk and GoGo, this album was an important release for me. Important because I love a lot of the records, many of which have been largely forgotten about, but also because there
really was a unique sound coming out of Italy, spread across many labels and involving numerous producers. As a result, it has never really been fully showcased like this before. Kick starting the new year, Cinematic's latest release comes from label debutant Reggie Dokes in the form of 'Child of The Sun EP'. An inspired artist hailing from Detroit, Reggie spoils us with three funk fuelled cuts via the motor city!

An inspired artist through his association with Derrick May and Transmat, Reggie is one of the unsung heroes from Detroit who's sole purpose has always been to concentrate on the music. His Psychotasia record label has been an outlet for releasing his signature sound of soul inspired deep house and techno that has gained him plaudits all over Europe. Recent guest appearances have seen Reggie release on esteemed labels such as Royal Oak, Kuumba and We Play House.

The first track 'Child of the sun' is a slow Techno burner fuelled with funk and electronic rhythms that builds, envoking vibrancy and colour before the bassline sets the tone in pummelling throughout the track.

The second track aptly titled 'Funk Below' further signifies Reggies versatility this time with a deeper mindset giving us the feeling of intimate night spots that are smoke filled with llow ceilings. Think browns and deep reds when listening to this and funk below that radar.

Make Believe compliments the release thats a little leftfield but not to be ignored. Synth laden and downtempo, the hi hats whip away providing energy climaxing with clever arrangement of strings before the whole thing gets stripped down for a more heads down moment.

Spirit Wrestlers is the new imprint launched by DiY Discs DJ, Pete Woosh (one half of Digs & Woosh). The label is a continuation of the sound heard on the infamous Strictly4Groovers and DiY Discs label's Woosh is notably known for working with, DiY is celebrating 25 years this year, testament to Pete's standing in the industry.

This 1st sampler ep from the label draws on the incredible pedigree of music that Nottingham produces and continues to lead the field with. As well as Woosh himself, artists such as Peej of DiY Discs, Positive Divide of Littlemen and Andy Riley of Inland Knights/Toka/Drop all make for an impressive rosta on this 4 tracker - just a taste of things to come...

Having made their Disco Capablancas debut back in 2012 with the excellent 12" Shoal, sprawling Minneapolis collective Food Pyramid return to Hugo Capablancas' label for an equally fine second release in the shape of Knosssos. Whilst this standard edition may not have quite the same level of collectability as the edition of 50 that feature hand painted artwork from Disco Capablancas compadre Andreas Golder, you can't fault the music. Food Pyramid are on top form with "Knossos" as layer upon layer of hypnotic synthesis spill out of the grooves and it's easy to see why label and artist plumped for Gavin Russom for remix duties. The DFA's White Wizard turns in a trademark remix that turns an already psychedelically potent track into a motorik techno beast of spell binding proportions.

But the duo, comprised of Linus Booth and Chris Macintyre, defy expectation at every turn; moving from the cavernous percussion of 'Home Video Is Wherever I'm With You' to the widescreen ecstasy of 'Stoned In Death Valley' and the breakneck pace of 'Hunk Of Punk.' The ambient vibes of the Jokers' 2012 " Lovely Sort of Death" (originally released in two parts by Scion on limited 7' vinyl) close out the album as a digital-only bonus.

Looking to do more than simply get End Scene into stores, Booth and Macintyre recruited Adam Marshall's acclaimed New Kanada imprint and NYC's underground powerhouse Throne Of Blood to create a collaborative label, Throne Of Kanada, to help realize their full vision for End Scene. In addition to the LP, JOTS are releasing a special cassette-only set of 'bonus tracks' with LA's Mount Analog and are working with New York based musician and artist Sean Dack to create the album artwork as well as a series of short films to accompany each track. Keeping with the duo's notion of 'casting' a dream team to realize End Scene, mastering was done by the likeminded musical iconoclast James Savage, from Glasgow's inimitable Naum Gabo. Everything is immaculately crafted, right down to the titles - plays on words that show that even when they're doling out dark slabs of drone and heady techno, these are Jokers at heart.

Back in 2012, a 12" slipped out with little fanfare that introduced a new transatlantic trio: Paqua. That record, the hazy, low-slung psychedelic rock masterpiece 'Dinosaur Zappa' was merely a taster; a year later, the trio followed it up with 'Late Train', a dub-soaked Balearic rock chugger that went on to become an anthem at open-air parties around the globe. Three years on from announcing their attentions, Paqua are ready to unveil their debut album, Akaliko, a Buddhist word meaning "timeless". It's an apt description for an album that bristles with sun-kissed beauty, fuzzy guitars, impeccable instrumentation and far-sighted late night charm. It is, in essence, a perfect fusion of the renowned styles of its creators, British DJ/producer Paul Murphy (AKA Mudd, famed for his deliciously Balearic compositions for Rong Music and his own Claremont 56 label), longtime collaborator Alex Searle, and Quinn Luke from New York's Phenomenal Handclap Band, an act renowned for their funk-fuelled, flash-fried take on disco-inspired rock. With these three at the helm, you're in safe hands. The supporting musical cast includes Phenomenal Handclap Band drummer Patrick Wood, percussionist Patrick Dawes (famed for his work with Groove Armada), and Faze Action's Robin Lee, who provides cello on a number of tracks. It's a thoroughbred consortium that helps provide Akaliko with a textured musical richness that's never less than intoxicating. Across the album's eight tracks, Paqua run through a range of styles, from the Latin-influenced shuffle of 'These Things Will Come' and disco-flecked dancefloor stormer 'Ruby Running Faker', to the blissful Balearic rock shuffle of 'We Are What We Are' and stoned dub-rock-disco shuffle of the title track, which builds in layers towards a breathless climax. The band's two acclaimed singles, 'Dinosaur Zappa' and 'Late Train', sound as resplendent as ever amidst such heady sounds. Those who've been waiting for Akaliko won't be disappointed. If you've yet to succumb to Paqua's charms, dive straight in - it is timeless, after all.

The Danish DJ and MUSIC FOR DREAMS' boss picks 3 of his fave cuts from last year deejaying in Ibiza at Café Mambo and the Bastardo parties: HESS IS MORE "CREATION" , a catchy and laidback dance tune that was massive in Ibiza, remixed by KENNETH BAGER himself, the funky instrumental groover "TEMPO LIBRE" by TUCCINELLI (AKA Italian producer TUCCILLO) and "WHAT'S MY NAME" by KENNETH BAGER EXPERIENCE and actress SOFIE GRABOL ("THE KILLING"). The record has been building steadily over the last couple of months played by PHIL MISON, featured on Testpressing radio show, and by JON SA TRINXA and DJ PIPPI.

After a brief hiatus we are pleased to announce Mangled returns in 2014 with a new distribution deal through Juno. First up is some Ray Mang versions of a song from Italian singer Mari (Marina Conti). Maris album Gentle Beauty produced together with singer songwriter Mozez (of Zero 7 fame) was released back in 2012 on Numen Records. Ray Mang took a shine to the second single Free taking the Vocals and piano from the original and re-crafting it into a stellar piece of modern euphoric disco. Presented here on heavyweight 180g 12" vinyl in three versions for your listening pleasure with digital to follow. From its first play during Rays debut appearance at London party institution Low Life back in 2012 this track has been causing goose bumps. Support comes from Bill Brewster, Daniel Wang, Horse Meat Disco, The Idjut Boys, Phil Mison, Una Bombers, Paul Murphy, Luke Solomon, Pete Herbert, Test Pressing and many more.

From the tropics comes Whiskey Disco, a sneaky re-edit label bent on dredging the decanter for diffident dancefloor genius from

latent disco perpetrators. It's loosely connected to Sleazy McQueen and his assorted cohorts.

Taste Of Honey is proud to present the true sound of the early 80': Change was an Italian-American post-disco group formed in Bologna, Italy in 1979 by businessman and executive producer Jacques Fred Petrus (1949-1986), Mauro Malavasi and Davide Romani. They were heavily influenced by legendary disco band Chic. In this release we can listen the original "Got To Get Up" (1983) plus a very clubby remix by Re-Tide (Taste Of Honey's Crew). The old sound and the new sound in one vinyl: born in 1983, evolved in 2014!

SCENES FROM OUR CLASSIC FUTURE IS THE REALIZATION OF THREE SONGS AND TWO PROJECTS THAT CAME TOGETHER AS ONE. AS YOUNG ASPIRING MUSICIANS SINCE THE EARLY AGE OF 12, GREG PAULUS AND JOHN CAMP PRACTICED PLAYING JAZZ STANDARDS INTO THE WEE SMALL HOURS OF THE MORNING TOGETHER. EVENTUALLY THE TWO WOULD FIND THEMSELVES BOTH IN NEW YORK UNDER NEW AND MORE ELECTRONIC CIRCUMSTANCES. DEEPLY INDEBTED TO THE MASTERY OF HERBIE HANCOCK, PAULUS AND CAMP WOULD RECONNECT, THIS TIME WITH SYNTHESIZERS, AND CONTINUE ON THEIR MUSICAL JOURNEY TOGETHER.

ON ONE PARTICULAR DAY, CAMP PLAYED PAULUS A TRACK TITLED "REMO". PAULUS INSTANTLY FELL IN LOVE WITH THE TRACK BUT BOTH FELT IT NEEDED SOMETHING MORE... PAULUS INSISTED ON LAYING DOWN VOCALS AND WITHIN 15 MINUTES HAD THE LYRICS WRITTEN OUT AND SOON AFTER ADDED TRUMPET .

AROUND THE SAME TIME PAULUS WAS REVISITING "SURF SONG", A TRACK HE AND BRIAN DERDIARIAN HAD BEEN WORKING ON SPORADICALLY FOR SOME TIME. THE TWO WOULD RECORD LONG ONE-TAKE JAMS ON TRUMPET, JUNO 106, AND GUITAR, FEEDING THEM ALL THRU LOOPING AND DELAY PEDALS. FROM THESE SESSIONS THEY WOULD FIND A STRIDE AND IN ADDITION TO "SURF SONG", RECORD "FIRE IN THE SKY". SIMILAR TO "REMO", "FIRE IN THE SKY" WOULD COME TOGETHER IN A LIGHTNING BOLT SORT OF WAY. WHEN ADDING THE FINAL TOUCHES, CAMP WAS AROUND AND WAS ENLISTED TO ADD PIANO WHICH WOULD BRING THE WHOLE EP TOGETHER.

AROUND THIS TIME, PAULUS BEGAN TO SEE THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THESE THREE TRACKS. EACH, IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER EMBODIED THE FEELING OF WHEN THE BEACH MEETS THE OCEAN. REMO" WAS DISTINCTLY REMINISCENT OF THEIR TIMES SPENT ON ROCKAWAY BEACH: THE TRIPS OUT IN THE CAR OR BUS, DRINKING AND SMOKING ON THE SHORE AND SLOWLY MAKING THEIR WAY BACK INTO THE BROOKLYN NIGHT TO GET CRAZY. "FIRE IN THE SKY" AND "SURF SONG" HAD A DISTINCT WEST COAST VIBE, MOST LIKELY DUE TO THE FACT THAT DERDIARIAN, BEING FROM CALIFORNIA, COULD NOT HELP BUT BRING THAT WEST COAST SWAGGER TO THE MUSIC. AT THE END OF THE DAY, THE IDEA OF HAVING THEIR GOOD FRIEND TANNER ROSS ADD HIS SIGNATURE TOUCH TO THE PROJECT WAS A NE- CESSITY. ROSS WOULD TAKE "REMO" AND MAKE IT HIS OWN HAZY GEM. WITH THAT, PAULUS WOULD END UP WITH FOUR SONGS THAT REMINDED HIM OF THAT SPECIAL PLACE WHERE THE SAND HITS THE OCEAN.

AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT PAULUS WOULD MANAGE TO TAKE TWO PICTURES THAT PERFECTLY ENCAPSU- LATED HIS FEELINGS FOR THESE SONGS. ONE, A BEAUTIFUL DAY ON THE ROCKAWAYS AND THE OTHER, A LUCKY RIDE IN HIS BUDDY'S CORVETTE STINGRAY UP THE PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY TO MALIBU.

Latest IIB release features the North Easts version of CSN Last Waltz. A double header, The first track Just Hold On is a collaboration between Last Waltz & Smoove. Heartfelt vocals over a pastoral rolling chugger, deep bassline folky guitar strumming making this a favourite at IIB HQ. On the remix Ess O Ess raise the tempo a little bring out the electric guitars and increasing the chug to almost Krautrock levels. On the Flip side Last waltz give us Tribute. A deep atmospheric acid affair. Mellow electric keys and percussion lull you into a false sense of security before the heavy kick and acid bassline drop with dark cello notes. Machete Savane take on the remix. Replacing acid for guitar and adding some machine groove this slowly builds and builds into a top bubbler.

For their first outing in 2014, cult vinyl-only imprint A&R Edits return with another double header of tried-and-tested reworks that have set the floor alight for edits maestro Greg Wilson in recent months.

For instalment number five, Lee 'Peza' Perry comes to the fore, opening with a track that picks up the momentum of the current return to popular consciousness of the Northern Soul scene. A lesser known, pre-Rodgers & Edwards Sister Sledge is the subject of his affections, with 'Love Don't Go Through No Changes On Me', a track that didn't chart in the UK but was championed by the legendary UK selector Colin Curtis at the Blackpool Mecca.

Unearthed once more, Peza's upfront dance floor treatment will no doubt bring this heartfelt gem to a new generation of dancers.

On the flip is a skilful extension of a 1979 classic by Gina X Performance, the electro pioneers who fused Euro-disco synth pop with an arthouse performance sensibility and sexually provocative imagery.

'C'est La Vie Ma Cherie' showcases Gina Kikoine's much-imitated detached, narrative vocal style, set above an irresistible groove, lovingly given the contemporary dance floor touch by Peza.
