Reality burst onto the Amsterdam funk scene in 1970, a dynamic percussive powerhouse of eight musicians. Galvanized by charismatic singer and frontman Tony Sherman, and driven by the core duo of Glenn Gaddum on keys and Frankie Douglas on guitar, the octet rose to prominence after their debut LP, playing many shows in Europe and worldwide with their whirlwind fusion of tough raw funk and Caribbean Antillean rhythms taken from Surinam, Curaçao, and Aruba. At that time there was a rich cultural exchange between the Netherlands and the Antilles, with many enterprising Caribbean communities and families traveling back and forth, inspired by the prospects of western Europe. Funk was very much a universal language of optimism, the rhythm of a new world, and the opportunity of seeing new countries and making them dance was one Reality seized with both hands. Debut album 'Reality', and the subsequent 'Tony And Reality' show the group at their tight funky best, with a deep understanding of the dynamics of the funk backbeat, as well as an intuitive knowledge of where to place their sunny bounce, and bring their positive energy to the dance. While the bands career was relatively short-lived, it was the incendiary nature of the group that meant they weren't slow-burners, but a bright flash on the world stage. Both LPs perfectly capture those fiery changing times, and stand up now as just great dance music, whatever your era.

Deliverance is the title track and one of the highlights from the 2nd Space, 1978 album. It's been sampled, it's been covered, it's even one of Elton Johns "favourites". However it hasn't been remixed... until now.

The track is full of fine vocal performances. Jazz and session legend Madeline Bell takes the lead and truly delivers a spin-tingling belter of a lead vocal. The track also features what sounds like a Welsh male voice choir. However such is the genius of producer JP Illescuo its actually only two French backing singer chaps, multi-tracked to high heaven.

Justus Kohncke is first up on the remix duty. He turns in two great versions. First the "Wild Pitch" remix takes inspiration from a certain Chicago house label and tons of growly underbelly synth to meld with Madelines soulful vocals for a sweaty floor prime time drop. His second mix is more vocal and full of walking bass and stabby synth. Quality from the German wunder prince of sound.

For the other remixes things get very Italian. The Love Supreme fresh from a fine debut album on sister label Tirk turn in their "Hard Disko" mix which strips the song back and brings in the driving bass and guitar lines. Some trademark bleeps and Kraut vibe add some sonic authenticity. The Hands Of Love (Fabrizio Mamarella and folks from Love Supreme) then get bleepy with their acid and 303 spliced rework.

Berlin-based duo Snacks drop an infectious four tracker on House Of Disco this October.Forming Snacks in 2014, New Zealand's Rene Corbett and Germany's Aljoscha Babel have been joining the dots between funk-fuelled disco and sultry house with releases landing on Pusic Records, Boogie Angst, hafendisko and Mule Musiq. As DJs they've been transforming dancefloors into all out bedlam with their upbeat and eclectic performances, whilst their party-focused productions have found a home in the record crates of Ben UFO, Detroit Swindle, Prosumer and Beats In Space's Tim Sweeney.
'Burnin' inaugurates the package by dropping a laidback drum rhythm, piercing chords and soulful vocal loops topped with a fuzzy bassline. 'Matinee' then takes things into deeper territories with organic percussion, blissful synth swells and uplifting choral patterns, before 'Deep Fry' generates a compelling groove with smooth bass licks and rich string harmonies.
In demand Dutch duo Fouk, who've appeared on HOD as well as Razor-N-Tape and Heist, deliver an offbeat take on 'Deep Fry' with delicate melodies, opulent pads and cosmic nuances resonating throughout.
