Manu Delago combines his mastery of the Hang - a rare and enchanting instrument - with bold arrangements, irresistible melodies and multi-layered beats on his Tru Thoughts debut Silver Kobalt. The young Austrian composer/multi-instrumentalist is highly in demand and has worked with Björk, Anoushka Shankar and The Cinematic Orchestra. This ambitious LP brings his stunning solo project into the spotlight like never before, drawing influence from pop to the avant-garde and featuring guest vocals from Isa Kurz, Anil Sebastian and Rahel.

The album ranges from hypnotic melodies and pristine bassy pop, to the more calm and enchanting sounds fashioned by the Hang. Other songs on the record explore harsh electronic sounds and experimental instrumentation, showcasing an exhilarating range of styles.

Aged just 30, Manu Delago is the world's leading Hang player and possesses equally virtuosic skills as a percussionist and drummer alongside ever maturing instincts as a songwriter and producer. The accessible yet startlingly original sound of 'Silver Kobalt' draws on the experience and ideas built up by the London based Austrian native across a high-flying and diverse career to date. From overachieving teenaged rock bands, through extensive classical training, from his exploits at the cutting edge of art pop as the lynchpin of Björk's band, to a London Symphony Orchestra commission which saw him playfully subverting their expectations, this endlessly curious artist has been honing his own style rich in melody, wit and invention.

Tying together the many sonic threads is co-producer Matt Robertson (Björk, The Prodigy, The Streets, Bat For Lashes), following his work on Delago's acclaimed 2013 LP 'Bigger Than Home', the record on which he began to truly develop his current sound. This is a sound that revolves around the unique timbre of the Hang, but encompasses much more, from acoustic percussion, bassoon, piano and chimes to multi-layered beats and a variety of synths.

A singular figure of the electroacoustic landscape, Michel Redolfi, a longtime friend of the GRM, has constantly been experimenting with the listening process. The unique sound of Redolfi (a true sound designer) comes across as crystal clear in his music, especially when, in both pieces featured on the record, he used the first digital synthesizer: the Synclavier. By following the imaginary scope of the waves Immersion and Pacific Tubular Waves, vividly illustrate Michel Redolfi's research on underwater music. Here they are available again in their original format.

An ornate globe made with many layers of exotic woods spins on its axis. Through the stained glass window diffuse light casts russet hews across the study. Looking out over the walled garden to an orchard, great swollen purple and black fruits hang malevolently from mangled moss-covered trees. A gentle wind pushes the tangled branches and as they creak and moan the fruits thud lazily to the ground, gathering in mouldering clusters on the dewy grass.

From two floors down a door slams angrily shut. A snakes head emerges from a bucket of rust. The weight of expectation pushes plants back into their roots and draws the forgotten ones out of stygian corners. Bintus throws wide his star cloak and beckons that we step through time with him. A black mirror points the way to oblivion while a disheveled figure appears, rain sodden, skin blanched like a slab of pre-historic granite. Stumbling over centuries, crushing asteroids with mind fire. Shango is among us tonight, bringing his wrath but also his forgiveness for those who show willingness to be forgiven.

We kick off with 'Censorship' by Hydro & War. It's an intense roller with light paced drums that work perfectly with the gritty, distorted bassline and mid sounds. Not for the light-hearted! On the flip we find Sint-Petersburg based Eastcolors remixing 'Polygraph' by Mindmapper & Silvahfonk. Where the original is flowing and consistent, Eastcolors unexpectingly turns up the heat laying emphasis on break elements and soaring bass sounds.

O/H is a new collaboration between Dave Foster (Huren, Teste, etc.) and Rich Oddie (Orphx, Oureboros, etc.). Future Ready is a four track EP which conflates their histories in noise and power electronics, industrial techno and rhythmic noise and marries all methods together into a ritual assault. There are lots of adjectives to describe this music and you've heard them all before so just skip the bullshit and listen. Each record ships with a vial of bull hormones*.

Prestige Music is announcing the latest vinyl pressing and first release in the relaunch effort. Jeremy Howard AKA Sinistarr hailing from Detroit Michigan has build himself quite a namesake within drum and bass music. With his signature style of techno infused funk Sinistarr adds to his impressive discography with this Prestige debut.

For its third release, the already impressive Ark To Ashes label calls upon three fiends to collaborate with label boss Shadi Megallaa. As such, the EP touchess on many different styles and behind the beats alongside Shadi are Tolga Fidan, igloo-rec chief Dilo and someone known as Lucky Luke.

Up first with Shadi, who has been producing almost a decade on his own label as well as the likes of Adjunct and Get Weird, is Dilo, a Buenos Aires and Berlin based producer who has appeared on the likes of AirDrop as well as fomenting his own empire with igloo. The track the friends turn out, 'Dub Magic,' is just that - a nice and fat wedge of dubbed out house with meandering horns, heavy rubber kicks and swathes of lovely reverb. Whispered vocals and laid back guitar licks add extra layers of stoned lushness and it's the sort of thing you wish would roll forever.

Then comes a killer track with Tolga Fidan, who is well known in tech house circles for his off kilter take on the sound on labels like Cocoon and Vakant. 'Brotherhood' is a super slo mo, reverb rich track with buried deep sub bass, warm kicks and classic reggae chords that sooth the soul. Floating flute lines and echoing drum hits flesh out the groove and have your thoughts invariably turning to summer.

Lastly, 'The Lost Ark' finds Shadi featuring one of his aliases, Lucky Luke, to conjure up a languorous house cut with deep, looping drums, gently tumbling percussion and romantic late night chords that bring a real sense of emotion to the increasingly irresistible groove. It's a super deep track with a real sense of heartfelt musicality that stays with you long after it finishes.

This classy EP once again proves Shadi and Ark To Ashes go their own way, and do so with plenty of style. .

He is not so easy to find. You have to follow the kilometres of pipes down and along a labyrinth of corridors, to enter in the basement den of Romain Turzi. This once cavernous space has been metamorphosised into a recording studio for the purpose of creating and completing the A & B albums trilogy with the latest LP release: C. Closed off from the world, without natural light and water supply, but full of consoles, synthesizers and old guitars, Romain cocooned himself here for several months to perfect his music and sonically construct the soundtrack that is C, with tracks entitled by nine types of birds, to glide you through this treasure hunt through the complexities of his musical mind.
After Turzi's sophomore album: B, recorded under the Corsican sun, the change of conditions is quite radical. Closing off from the world in a place where you can only do one thing, make music, Turzi was able to gain the greatest luxury within this process: time.

Niteshade Inc finally unleash Stragos subaquatic beast 'Nautilus' with a heavyweight rework from Denmark's RDG.

Having been anointed as a 'tastemaker' by none other than über-tastemaker Gilles Peterson on his legendary BBC radio show, it was about time for Ennio Styles to get serious with his label Heard and Felt. Following the acclaimed download comps 'Stylin' 500' and 'Stylin' 600' (feat. Sampha, Amin Payne, Andras Fox, Fulgeance, Kirkis, RAah Project, etc), Ennio has turned to fellow Melbournian Cy Gorman for the first Heard and Felt physical and artist release, with LA's Daniel Crawford on the remix.

Props for the record are already coming in from Jazzy Jeff and Gilles Peterson, adding to Cy's existing supporters like Mixmag, Diesler, Beyondjazz, KCRW (LA) and J-WAVE FM (Tokyo).

After laying down a highly unusual blend of latin, trap, G-funk and soul on a recent remix of London's Los Charly's Orchestra, Cy extends his palette further on 'Carmen'. Drawing on his skills as composer, producer, pianist, saxophonist and vocalist, the sound ranges from the feelgood synth-funk of 'Cool Change' and 8-bit baroque beats of 'Carmen San Diego' to the leftfield bossa of 'The Wishing Well' and smoky jazz club vibes of 'RDJ'. The latter gets a remix from Daniel Crawford, whose current album features Amp Fiddler and Vikter Duplaix. Daniel adds a warm and soulful touch, recalling the days of George Duke teaming up with Milton Nascimento.

From a background playing piano and saxophone to his adventures with Soundnbeats, Minor Rain is a musician who is always exploring, always expanding his horizons.

* And you can feel your horizons expanding with the first of the tunes on HWARE34, Totem Tube, which, from its tribal percussion beginnings, soon morphs out into a stinging, rising thing of beauty. Beats are stripped bare, punching their way straight to the heart. Switching synths lead into tempered electronics, and the pace slowly builds up to the drop. After this, Minor keeps things minimal, with chasing, skittering beats and sublimated melodies. But concentrate for a second, and you'll appreciate the life which is unearthed under the music. So much is contained in Resistor, you'll want to listen again and again.

Fire' one of the anthems from Radikal Guru's 'The Rootstepa' album is finally available on vinyl, backed by Hot's heavyweight jungle remix and extra digital versions from Alpha Steppa and Bukkha. Don't sleep on this one.

Scuba's musical biography has been a story of constant change. Over the past eleven years, his music has zigzagged through bass, techno and house, at times dark and contemplative, at others bright and anthemic. A look at his discography bears out this creative restlessness: from the shadowy rhythms of A Mutual Antipathy and Triangulation, through the soaring melodies of Personality and the cardinal "Adrenalin" EP.

Claustrophobia is more than just the next phase in this development—it's a culmination of everything that's come so far. As its name implies, the record is tense and inward-looking, but it's also rich and dynamic, nimbly moving through a panorama of moods and styles. Rhythms expand and contract from one song to the next, textural passages give way to shimmering strands of melody, found sounds and field recordings breathe life into ambient sketches. The album is modern and understated throughout, but also touched with something unrestrained: the exhilarating energy of classic rave.

The album comes at a pivotal moment for Scuba. In the past few years, he's gigged heavily, playing countless festivals and clubs around the world. The hugely influential Hotflush Recordings, the label Scuba runs, has expanded rapidly, with upwards of a dozen releases each year, including widely loved titles from the likes of Joy Orbison, Mount Kimbie and Paul Woolford. But Claustrophobia was written in a period of relative calm. Scuba began the album last summer as he prepared for his set at Labyrinth, the intimate techno festival in the mountains of Japan.

On that autumnal afternoon, given four hours on the world's best Funktion One, he traced the full arc of his current sound, from sonorous Rhythm & Sound-style dub to full-on warpath techno.

Claustrophobia, which he finished in the months following Labyrinth, has the same bold and comprehensive quality as that performance. We only occasionally get a 4/4 thud—most tracks are built on lurching, angular rhythms, sometimes subtle ("Drift," "All I Think About Is Death") sometimes monolithic ("Television," "Needle Phobia"). A few tracks, like "Levitation" and "Transience," are essentially beat-free, but are not mere interludes—with vivid tones and striking depth of field, they have as much gravitas as their thumping companions ("PCP," "Why You Feel So Low" or "Black On Black"). Sleek, versatile and aurally lush, Claustrophobia is Scuba at his most immersive.

The eleventh One Seven Five release features two tracks with a bit of a dark theme: death.
"Prepare To Die" is as hard hitting as can be. Loud kickdrums, filthy reeces and plenty of distortion make you wonder whether you haven't already passed on and ended up on the backlot of Hell.
"Borrowed Time" is a friendly reminder that you haven't, letting you know that the Grim Reaper already tried your house, but to no avail. He is coming for you though so it might be wise to jump on that boat across the river Styx.
Ferryman DJ Hidden, who is responsible for both tracks on this release, will guide you to the shores of the Underworld. Get ready!

The next release on Tempa marks the return of J:Kenzo, with Urban Gorilla, the dubstep firebrand's first release since last year's crushing Magneto 12'.

Kenzo remains one of the leading lights of the genre's current generation: his tracks are thrilling exercises in futuristic, synapse-scrambling minimalism, but still deeply rooted in the community-led sound system attitude that inspires them.

Lead track 'Urban Gorilla' epitomises that aesthetic - it features the tough, ruffneck yet dextrous vocals of Ghost crew member Juiceman, famous for his loping chat on El-B's perennial 'Buck 'n' Bury'. Here he's on incendiary form with a beat to match, with his deep baritone looping around percussion and bass that slinks and scuttles - equal parts dub soundboy fury and tense dystopian nightmare.

'Expansion' trips still further into the dark, with its whiplash bolts of sub-bass and eerie, two-note refrain instantly recalling the characteristic immersive, physically powerful sets of scene lynchpin Youngsta.

The EP closes with the instrumental version of 'Urban Gorilla' recast as 'Technoid', drawing out the track's contours in sharp, brusquely metallic relief. Tough yet fluid, they're potent reminders of the force coiled within J:Kenzo's music.

Following from his recent Bass Clef releases with both PAN and Alter, London based musician Ralph Cumbers presents a new album of material from his Some Truths alter ego. Bringing together strands of house, techno, fractured rhythm and anthemic modular synthesis, the album demonstrates Cumbers' vision as one of experimental music's most singular voices, adeptly distilling strands of the familiar and abstract into a series of tonal and percussive collages that effortlessly navigates the balance between stark functional electronics and a playful psychedelic humour. Bliss Abyss highlights Cumbers' position as an artist embedded in the lineage of British pioneering synthesis, whilst filtering these technological and esoteric histories through a razor sharp dancefloor sensibility and a defiant ear for both intricate construction and dynamics, moulding contorted evolving structures and tense shards of rhythm into oscillating synthetics and expansive dubbed out coma.



At the centre of the production process for Bliss Abyss is the resurrection of a broken Roland TR606 drum machine combined with a eurorack modular system. The combination opened up a rhythmic vista for Cumbers that was recorded onto 25 tapes that were then repeatedly recorded over multiple times, creating imperfect palimpsests as sound leaked through from layers of previous recordings. This sits as the percussive bedrock for an exploration of acoustic modelling, and the uncanny potential for synthesis to both mimic and depart from the real.



The album is released through We Can Elude Control on 24th November 2014 and is available as a double vinyl LP and digital.

* Recorded by the duo over 2014, 'Proto' is a collection of 10 future-facing club tracks that, against the
odds, also provides a deep and involving experience for the listener.

* 'Proto' focusses on the very brief sparks of innovation when new scenes were just forming and genre
rules and paradigm were still grey areas; the early bleep track days when imported American techno was
starting to be appropriated by the UK, the 93-94 proto era when hardcore was morphing into jungle and
later when the darker sound of tech-step reared its mechanical, dystopian head.

* All of this is underpinned with 'Wot U Call It' grime sensibilities and Mumdance & Logos' trademark sonic disortientation. Mumdance & Logos concentrate on taking the moods and colours created by these leaps forward in sound and twisting them into something new; keeping in line with the futuristic visions of the originators.

* Both producers had a banner 2014, launching their new label Different Circles and spearheading a
movement of "spatially untethered club trax" coined Weightless. Mumdance took up a residency on Rinse
FM, went B2B with Tectonic boss Pinch on their acclaimed mix release ("no one else is putting music
together quite like this" - RA 4/5) before being selected for RBMA Toyko. Logos, aside from appearing
with the Boxed crew across London, had a new track 'Metropolis' top Keysound stable comp 'Certified
Connections' and had 2013's debut 'Cold Mission' LP checked in FACT's 100 best albums of decade so
far.

Everything is a function of that that preceded it. We are the cuttings of our past and we are put back together only to cut, and be cut up again....and so the sequence will continue, for good and for bad, for better and for worse .... everything true is harmony .... everything true is a mistake .... we are but the harmony of our spheres .... surrounded by music ... echoing the past as we hurtle towards the future.

Radioactive Man: "Dub has always been a major influence in my music, mainly roots a la King Tubby, Marley, Lee Scratch, King Jammy etc. I used to religiously tune into the Manasseh show on Kiss FM on Saturday nights after Coldcut, that introduced me to the massive amount of Roots Reggae and Dub that was made in the 70's. I always loved the fact there was two versions, a vocal and a dub, which was always played in that order... The original remix music i guess.

"I remember taking my good friend Si Brown to a 'dance' in Camberwell, South London. I think it was Aba Shanti sound system. Proper thunderous. Anyway, he reluctantly came along, he always thought reggae was a chill out music... After 5 or 10 minutes he was up dancing - blown away by the sheer power of the bass. You couldn't put your drink down cos it was bouncing with the bass! It's so powerful - that's the way to hear that music properly.

"2005, I'd just got a new bit of kit, a Korg Electribe SX, much fun to be had with the new toy... I'd been meaning to make some real dub style vibes, but with electronic sounds... Something we'd touched on doing the Two Lone Swordsmen stuff, Andrew Weatherall also a huge dubhead. "So some of these tunes have been sitting on my hard drive for about 8 years. I played them to my friend Lukey Roots QC, him being a massive dub fiend, we talked about releasing them... So, after many moons of discussion and plans, here's a new record label, UNA sound, dedicated to the Dub side. "There's more than a bit of On U sound vibes going on, Adrian Sherwood being a producer I've always loved. It's a kind of 4/4 steppers vibe on some of them, I like to think they've stood the test of time... They are quite rough and raw, and that's how I like it. "'From the Dub Vault' will be a series of 12"s... so far in three volumes. As always, it's a work in progress, it's just that progress has taken years... Well, you can't rush these things can you So very happy to have them on vinyl, too. Following on from last year's 'Your Charizmatic Self' EP, Night Slugs executive producer Bok Bok teams up with composer and keyboardist Sweyn Jupiter on a romantic new double A-side single.

'Papaya Lipgloss' is a song about young love, presented in two distinct but equally weighty versions. Both mixes share a common melodic motif, skeletal yet sincere.

The 'Club Mix' draws on tribal House energy: a sweltering rhythm built of Latin percussion, Linndrum funk and pumping subs, over which melody gradually unravels in bursts of stark, juicy colour. Synths form a sensual narrative, remaining ever poised even as their pulpy goo engulfs all surfaces. This is intimate club music that brings a new kind of intensity to dance floors.

Meanwhile, the 'Sour Mix' is saturated and dripping with bitter-sweet nectar. This version sees 'Papaya' transformed into an opulent bedroom jam, complete with quaking kickdrums and purring Moog bassline. A milestone originally released in 1985 on the legendary Broken Flag label, Giancarlo Toniutti's 'La Mutazione' is renowned in certain circles as a classic and with good reason. The album comprises of two subtle and haunting side-long explorations of dark cosmic electronics akin to Klaus Schulze, Cluster, Tangerine Dream and Conrad Schnitzler filtered through the lens of MB, Whitehouse, Nurse With Wound, and The New Blockaders. At the time, Toniutti had just enrolled at the Conservatory of Venice with a heady amount of education in Stockhausen, Schaefer, etc. These three musical poles come together in this beautiful and unsettling construction of layered static, analog synth explorations, concrete sounds and field recordings.This limited edition reissue is an exact replica of the original Broken Flag LP release, with remastered audio and an inner sleeve containing archival photos and sketches from the period that the work was created. Additionally this reissue contains a bonus CD of unreleased material from Toniutti's cassette archive featuring a collage of sound sketches recorded during the same time period, thus giving the listener a wider view into the soundworld that helped form La Mutazione.

'Tides' sees him joining the dots between instrumental hip hop heroes Aim and RJD2, the epic soundscapes of Cinematic Orchestra and the deft songwriting of Bonobo.

Rioghnach gives a captivating vocal performance on lead single 'Calm The Still Night' and the brooding 'Dawn', whilst JP (recently signed to Island Records) brings raw soul to 'Old Friend' and 'No Place To Hide Away'.

Alessandroni. The concept itself is riveting enough: the guy who provided that infamous guitar riff for 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' providing utterly bent and synth-heavy recordings
previously unheard by the wider world - but the material and execution is just nothing short of a revelation, unlocking an uncannily prescient suite of rhythmik pieces that sound unlike much library music you will have heard from the era. 'Industrial' perfectly encapsulates the heightened state of creativity in the mid '70s surrounding Alessandroni and his close peers Giuliano Sorgini - together known as Braen Raskovich - and Ennio Morricone, for whom Alessandro also famously whistled the theme to 'A Fistful of Dollars'. Recorded at Piero Umiliani's Sound Workshop in Rome, and made with an arsenal of EMS Synthi VCS3 modular systems, tape loops and a treated Petrof
grand piano plus a bundle of string instruments, the 'Industrial' results (coincidentally issued the same year as Throbbing Gristle's debut album) present a pulsating take on this kind of music breaching tightly-coiled motorik systems and mood percolators with atonal strings and viral oscillations. Most importantly, the sense of minimalist efficiency and the clarity of the recordings
are shocking, pushing the envelope of electro-acoustic music and pre-empting the early notions of an entire genre movement

Daniel Savio - the Swede who coined the term 'Skwee' back in 2006 when the first odd-sounding electro-funked and tempo-twirling 7inches came about from Finland and Sweden. His 6-track record for Laton consists of true-to-the-game Skwee sounds and rhythms incl. oriental-like melodies that has been penetrating the genre for years. Harmonic in melody, diverse in tempo from the originator.

Laton presents some of the proprietors of Skwee & the phenomenon of this Fennoscandian sound with three different 12inches and a LP compilation. 'Holtiton' was originally released in 2012, limited and is back on demand.

Twin Paradox celebrates this prolific, formative work across two albums. With the classic electro angularities and epic synthetic cosmicity are very much of their time, there's an overwhelming sense of timelessness and relevance to the project too. We reckon if you listen to cuts such as the poignant, reflective "Abstand" or the distorted, shuffling phrases and positive harmonics of "Karlsruhe Nach Basel" in 20 years time, they'll still sound just as icy and futuristic. My Favorite Robot serves up another unique and uncompromising release from Pink Skull, this time in the form of an exclusive vinyl release, months ahead of its digital companion. Energetic analogue forms that are simultaneously playful and moody define the sound of their latest full length Huitlacoche.

Huitlacoche, the group's fourth release, sees its first full length foray with a new pared down line up of Julian Grefe, Justin Geller, and Joe Lentini. Days on end spent tethered to their synths have yielded a purely electronic record; in a way, a return to their roots and a serious step forward.

It's an uplifting slice of drum & bass with infectious vocal cuts, smooth chords and perfect balanced lightweight drums. On the flip Agbo dives into the deepness with a minimal, hypnotic halfstepper. After spending recent months remixing the likes of Childish Gambino, MK and Wretch 32, Friction presents the second volume of his trailblazing Vs series. Having kicked down doors last year with Volume 1 with heavyweights Total Science, Fourward and Jakes, the second chapter provides two distinct tracks featuring studio scientist Icicle and Desire Paths creators Technimatic. Friction's uncompromising dancefloor style combined with each artist bringing their own unique flavour to proceedings, the new Vs chapter raises the bar once more.

Bristol's Facta and Hodge are a pair of rising young producers who, more than most, have absorbed the influence of Tempa's early music and wielded it to create something defiantly their own. Hodge has been on a powerful run of form over the last two years, with a string of acclaimed 12's for Livity Sound, Idle Hands and Hotline striking a unique balance between brutalist sub-bass muscle and vortex-like whirls of voice and percussion. Facta's releases for Soundman Chronicles and Idle Hands have been equally striking - dark, hypnotic and dread-filled rollers for the moodiest of dancefloors. 

You can hear both producers' approaches vying for attention on this collaborative 12', and the resulting tension turns the atmosphere electric. 'Spheres Of Costa Rica' draws a glancing sample of traditional chanted music into a dubbed-out, sidewinding riddim that seems to sink deeper and deeper as it plays, drawing your mind and feet along with it. Flip the record and 'Visions' mesmerises you further still: its swung drums summon the ghosts of UK garage, but blast them out into deep space, where fragmentary whorls of noise and firestorm sub-bass erupt all around you. As an EP it's a bold statement from all parties: dark, unerringly forward-thinking new music that takes Tempa's legacy in a vital new direction.

In the bustling world of instrumental grime, Mr. Mitch's 'Peace Dub' phenomenon - initially a concept aimed squarely at flipping grime's 'war dub' complex on it's head - has fast become a reputable sub-genre all of it's own. With a series of his own peace edits garnering plenty of recognition online over the course of 2014, Mitch has enlisted a trio of new-school producers to assist him in re-contextualising four unconventional classics and with it, christen a new series of peace-themed white label 12's. Simply titled PEACE001, Mitch is joined by Gobstopper signees Strict Face and Loom, as well as elusive beat-making trio Silk Road Assassins on the label's first ever physical record - a body of work that takes instrumental grime even further into unchartered territory. Kicking off with the brooding heartache of Mitch's fuzzy, emotionally charged re-rub of Dru Hill's 'How Deep Is Your Love', there's also space for Strict Face to turn an icier, washed-out hand to the peace aesthetic on 'Alice' - his beautifully mellow, minimalist rework of Alice Deejay classic 'Better Off Alone'. Latest signee Loom opts to take a deconstructionist route through Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill' as glitchy melodies, ushered reverb and pitched-up vocal loops meet harsh, industrial sampling in unerringly dystopian collision of ideas, whilst Silk Road Assassins sign off with their take on T-Pain's 'Im Sprung'. Trickling, iced-out melodies and pitched-down vocals are laid over dark, menacing bass rumbles in a tribute to the sound that has already earmarked the trio as refreshingly slick sound designers.

'West'

* Tribalistic drums and vocal hums set this track off, accompanied by square wave bleeps that resonate and lead. When the bass drops on this track you feel it with a full body rumble. The space within the drum groove becomes a key element and adds to the swing of it all. The vocal mid way through the track is the icing on the cake, stamping yet more definition and character to the overall piece.


'Honne'

* Feonix Teams up with LSN member Joe Watson to create this wonderful cinematic experience, From the moment the track starts it creates an atmosphere so cold and deep. Haunting male vocal chants, perpetual stabs and fizzy reverbed reese work takes shape and starts to lay down the foundation for this creepy roller. The break down is incredible too; yet more vocal progression and the tribal percussions with chilling effect. Mandatory goosebumps will be felt.

'Central'

* Eyes down, head space, full body mediation, ..... this track takes you on a journey into your mind.
Another collaboration, this time with Daniel Jones, also a member of LSN really show off the production skills with their resonated modulated sub bass and key component signature drums. Waves of audio passing through you and captivating your attention as it chants and builds up. Unusual percussion positions and intelligent song structure add to what makes this a stand out track, reinforcing the versatile armoury of Feonix's incredible long player yet further.

Recored while reading Stanley Milgram's 'Obedience to Authority' the feelings of claustrophobia and brutality are slowly revealed across the album. The set opens with 'Agentic State' - an exercise in atmosphere and rhythm before moving into the more confined 'Obedience Experiment'. On side closer 'Antecedent Conditions' distant percussion interacts with analogue synths lying on a bed of industrial atmospheres. The second side is where things take on a darker and more oppressive turn. 'Situational Obligations' ramps up the distortion levels alongside a hypnotic, overridden bassdrum, propelling the incessant keys to create a suffocating listening experience. 'Remote Feedback' keeps up the driving momentum before 'Touch Proximity' brings the album to a close by taking a steps back without offering any comfort. Those who have noted the changes to the sound of The Boats of late will not doubt draw parallels to this latest solo transmission from one half of the duo.

Limited Pink Vinyl!. Kokeshi changes the tempo this time offering two tunes from Russia's Bulb. 'Tenderness' comes with an 80s Vangelis vibe that offers the emotional aesthetic that Kokeshi is known for. With its non 2 step beats it won't be recognisable as drum'n'bass despite having the same tempo as most d'n'b tunes. For the DJ's, catch the flip side which offers a dance-floor friendly yet uber deep feel from the d'n'b tune 'Heartless'.

The Fruit Club was a big nod back to the famous 'Fruit Club' night that was held at the Brunel Rooms in Swindon throughout the 90s. This is where Soul Intent first heard dnb as it should be via underground hero's like Doc Scott, Kemistry & Storm, DJ Lee. Infact the label artwork has been designed around their old flyers (big up to DJ Fadyz & Stephen Reid for permission to use the Fruit Club logo).

The track itself features all the elements of those classic mid 90s tracks along with production and arrangement straight out of 2015. On hearing Soul Intent drop it as his first tune Dillinja hunted Alex down and asked for the tune, which he smashed in every set throughout the busy 2014 festival season. Dropping the track at Outlook both Doc Scott and Xtra run up to the DJ booth asking Dillinja what the track was. This kind of DJ support helped the track become one of the hottest dubplates of 2014.

Would Have Loved You has been getting a lot of interest from DJ's and clubbers alike. Jeanette Thompson's beautiful vocals (written herself) ride over a tough break and sinister distorted bassline. A fine example of Soul Intents love of combining rough with smooth with that classic 90s headz vibe thrown in for good measure.

Rude Raver is a out and out dancefloor roller. Packed with samples from the early hardcore era where labels like Reinforced owed the UK underground rave scene. A distinctive synth riff, ragga vocals and a fast paced break make this a sure fire killer in the club. A Straight up club track, and we're not ashamed to say so.

The results are not for the faint hearted and with his second album ready to kick off 2015, 'Throne Crusher' looks set to cement his status as Czech's most major league drum & bass producer.
'I have been working on this album for the past 2 years. After my 'To The Threshold' and 'Resist The Pressure' LP's in 2012, I wanted this album to be somewhat different. It's my own take on that European neurofunk sound. From straight up rolling drum & bass to more experimental tunes, 110 bpm business and halftempo Amen smashers, there's a lot here. There's also a little oldschool influence in there, remember the reese bass.. I miss those days!

'Italian Piezo and belgian Clearlight join forces on this five-track EP for the danish vinyl-only imprint Circle Vision.
Despite none of them being born in eastern europe, this release has a post-soviet touch: the EP tells the story of the Chernovbil nuclear disaster and its aftermaths on the near town of Pripyat (now a ghost city) with a unique approach to dub and bass music, characterized by a meticulous use of sound-design.

The weird euphory of 'Pripyat Dub' is followed by a dark storm of destruction on 'Scourge'.
The spirits of the victims cavort on a spastic tribal rhythm ('Fallen Soul'), while an acid rain starts falling and floods Pripyat ('Here Comes the Toxic Rain'): its dubby ethereal melody anticipates the final re-birth, described by the soundscape climax of 'Punharbava'

Dark Pool is the new studio album from Black Rain, the project's first in 18 years. Produced in New York City by Stuart Argabright, Black Rain's founder and figurehead, Dark Pool is a work of hard-edged sonic fiction rooted in cyberpunk's quintessential neo-noir cityscape/dataspace but projecting into a farther future of biotechnological advancement and alienation. Partly inspired by the writings of Philip K. Dick protégé K.W. Jeter (particularly 1996'sEdge Of Human, which picked up where Ridley Scott's Blade Runner left off), and Paolo Bacigalupi's 2009 novel The Windup Girl, a vision of 23rd century Thailand plagued by genetic and economic terrorism, Dark Pool's humid dystopia is also acutely Ballardian in its vision of manmade and natural worlds encroaching upon each other: a vivid psychogeography of half-submerged high-rises and hidden jungle laboratories. Stuart Argabright first landed in New York in 1978. By day, he worked as a landscape gardener for the upscale likes of Rock Hudson and Bob Dylan, while at night involving himself in all manner of subcultural activity - the reverberations of which are still being felt today. He co-founded seminal no wave minimalists Ike Yard (whose early 1980s work has been cited as an influence by the likes of Kode9, Young Echo and Silent Servant), collaborated with the late Rammellzee in futurist hip-hop outfit Death Comet Crew (recently reactivated for an LP on Powell's Diagonal label) and as Dominatrix scored a bona fide club hit with the downtown electro classic 'The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight' (1984). Black Rain was revived in the wake of 2011's Now I'm Just A Number's release and Argabright has toured extensively under the name and last year released an EP of live recordings, Protoplasm, on BEB. Three of the EP's four tracks appear here on Dark Pool in radically revised and expanded form: the stuttering ribofunk of 'Endourban' is now anchored by ominous string pads faintly redolent of Argabright's labelmates Raime, while 'Data River' revisits the accelerated beat-stream of Black Rain's 1996 album Nanarchy, and the low-slung 'Protoplasm' has evolved into a sprawling, syncopated techno epic - the sound of red dawn rising on an illegal replicant rave. A further seven new productions feature. 'Burst', its title perhaps a nod to Sogo Ishii's 1982 biker gang saga Burst City, harks back to the scrap-metal-banging brutalism of Black Rain mk.1; 'Xibalba Road Metamorph', the album's angry, anguished centrepiece, externalises the sadness and self-loathing of Jeter's oppressed post-human workforce. 'Night In New Chiang Saen' reimagines dub as the viral product of one of AgriGen's morally suspect scientific initiatives in The Windup Girl, before 'Who Will Save The Tiger' calls upon spidery, Metalheadz-esque breakbeats and wailing guitar drones to summon a 23rd century Ark. Vocals (on 'Profusion' and 'Profusion II') from Zoe Zanias (Keluar), and a brief spoken intervention from Sean Young (who of course played Rachel in Blade Runner) are simply the most audible manifestations of a dejected feminine presence that haunts the entire album. For all its textual references, Dark Pool is a visceral and straight-talking affair: its bodyhammer rhythms and brooding sound design require no explanation for their impact to be felt.

'The Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight' has a long and storied history among connoisseurs of '80s New
York dance music. Combining catchy, deadpan synth-pop and classic '80s electro hallmarks with
the provocative edge of leather-and-lace sex culture, it remains a worldwide dancefloor staple to
this day.
Despite its popularity, little has been known about the song's background. The brainchild of
producer Stuart Argabright (nee Arbright, a member of the groups Ike Yard and Death Comet
Crew), alongside DJ and remixer Ivan Ivan, Kenneth Lockie (from Cowboys International, and early
Death Comet Crew), and vocalist Claudia Summers, the song's dominating female subject was
based on a person whom Arbright had dated. The song - and a banned-by-MTV video that today
could be mistaken for a Victoria's Secret commercial - became a club smash at famed Danceteria
and other urban meccas. But, despite some leather-clad live dates in 1984, the group itself was
short-lived.
This special Get On Down vinyl edition is sure to be coveted by fans and collectors. This
configuration has never been available before: beyond four original mixes of the song (12', Chants,
Dominant and Beat Me) that fans know and love - this full-length LP includes the newly unearthed
song 'Play It Safe' and the rarely heard, hypnotic 'City That Never Sleeps,' in addition to the rare
1984 'Scratch Mix' of the original title song, with cuts by the legendary DJ Red Alert.
The deluxe vinyl package is accompanied by a 16-page glossy booklet with text by writer
Dave Tompkins and input from Argabright and Ivan Ivan. Additionally, fans will be thrilled into
submission by visuals and press clips relating to the original release on Arthur Baker's Street Wise
Records, the song's provocative video, as well as the dominatrix culture in New York City at the
time which inspired this unlikely smash hit.

Pavemental (Jernej Marusic) is a new name of a seasoned artist. who has been releasing music since the late 90s and is best known for his work under the experimental-dub-techno moniker Octex. Jernej is now back and taking up Pavemental as a new alias for his new beats and hip hop driven concept.

The record Streeteepy reflects the funky flow of skateboard tricks, overlaid by the spacious chords of the city, spiced up by his signature studio trickery.

Over the past 2 years Houston-based producer Rabit has developed a formidable reputation within the underground via a steady stream of acclaimed 12' releases and mixtapes. His notable credits include close ties to and collaborations with similarly buzzed about producers Mumdance and Logos, culminating most notably in a guest spot on the latter's debut LP, Cold Mission, as well as affiliations with the severely hyped Janus crew (M.E.S.H. designed the artwork for Baptizm). Singularly, he delivered a genuine hit on the British grime scene with his 'Black Dragons', featuring Riko, last fall.

Baptizm is a record of 2 halves, the ornate, gothic waltz of 'Imp' and 'Hex' grinding against the pounding mechanical violence displayed on 'Bloody Eye' and 'Straps'. On an emotional level Baptizm is about having one's life thrown completely out of order and finding solace in an imagined world. Themes of destruction and regeneration dominate throughout, as well as an ongoing obsession on the often-ugly clash between sexuality and religion. All in all, Baptizm finds Rabit continuing to feel out the parameters of his increasingly alien sonic world in a typically exciting fashion.

February sees the first release in just over three years on Keysound from Damu. Last seen on his debut album Unity' featuring Trim, he delivers four new intense sour sound constructions. This EP started as war dubs for Keysound nights,' explains Damu. I really like the competitive vibe of the scene in London and I worked on the EP across Manchester, Sheffield and Croydon from 2013-14.' Since my debut album my wiring has changed completely, it's the sonics of individual sounds that gets me hyped now and I think this EP reflects a bit more of a mathematical approach to music-making.' I've been tucked away in a few little studios trying to get back to a place where every element of my tunes sounds thrilling to me again. The title 'Holed up in the Hovel' is how I've felt while I've been working on it for ages.' I'm really excited by club music at the moment since moving to Croydon. I love dancing and there's a lot of exciting nights worth dancing at, that's been a huge inspiration to me recently. Making interesting sounds is my focus over making songs now, but considering it's all I ever go out to, it made sense to shape the noises into something like grime." Over the course of these four sour cuts - iPolice", "Whirlybird", "Holed Up In The Hovel" and "No Pain, No Gain" - it's clear Damu has driven himself towards not grime per se but something like grime' and beyond.

**First vinyl issue in 2LP edition of 500 mastered and cut at D&M, first 180 copies include one of three 12" x 12" colour prints - if you're into Lee Gamble, The Caretaker/Leyland Kirby or Wolfgang Voigt's GAS project - this is a must** The Automatics Group's dance-pop deconstruction, 'Summer Mix' is one of the uncanniest computer music releases of this decade - first issued as a limited CD edition by Entr'acte in 2011. In the time since then it's quietly become a bit of an iconic reflection for a post-rave generation, presenting a non-trivial nostalgia trip that somehow sounds like a digitally diffused, skeletal take on Gas, Basic Channel or Ross 154. It was created by applying a mathematical process known as a discrete Fourier transform upon a number of late '90s and '00s dance anthems, effectively sieving their contents for all its time data and discarding this half of the info, leaving behind the frequencies and noise from the original recordings. What remains is a haunting spectral impression: snare hits smeared as a thin layer of noise over the entire recording, single synth notes become pulsating chords spanning the whole track; rending anthemic metaphysics as a sublime murmuration of intangible memories and perhaps even simulating the effect of an MDMA-induced cultural amnesia, to our mashed minds at least. Due to vinyl's inherent frequency limitations, the piece's unique, high-end timbral thizz sounds subtly altered on this version, with pulses pronounced just enough for adventurous DJs, and also features the bonus of a pre-installed 33rpm version if you really want to break it down. Whether considered as a critique of academic music's neurotically formal processes or as an arguably transcendent and tantalisingly emotive record, Summer Mix should serve as a fine primer to Theo Burt's practice in advance of his keenly awaited 'Gloss' album for Lorenzo Senni's Presto! label. 'Summer Mix' has become a deeply valued part of our listening lives, and we only hope that more people will get as much enjoyment from it as we do.
