Sphere Gear is the latest chapter in a musical journey that began in 1999 with Weekend World Recordings and more recently evolved into Shadow Story, the label and home of Bradford duo Martin Cartledge and Alexander Church, aka Dronelock, and Serbian duo Boriz Noize and Dekode, aka Ontal. Operating as an offshoot of Shadow Story, the Sphere Gear imprint will release just 10 limited-press vinyl releases in its existence.

Dronelock kick off Sphere Gear's debut outing with 'Theia', a 5-track EP that delves into the darkest reaches of the duo's abstract electronic world. The title track is a potent, claustrophobic opener, with chopper blades, caustic drones and eerie synth shimmers making for a turbulent and unsettling trip. 'Morphia' offers an antidote, washing over the senses with its all-consuming, ethereal ambience, before the menacing electro of 'The Oath' drags you right back out of the dream state.

'In Human Form' tests the senses further, a schizophrenic soundscape that balances dead silence and abrasive noise, leaving the EP to conclude with the dystopian techno march of 'Once Again', an unruly kick drum call-to-arms.

All five tracks will be available on the limited edition vinyl release, while 'Theia' and 'The Oath' will also be available as a digital download.

The album was mixed by The Haxan Cloak, except two songs mixed by The Haxan Cloak and Chris Elms, and mastered by Mandy Parnell.

Noisia have revealed the title and tracklist for their forthcoming compilation, 'Ten Years Of Vision Recordings', celebrating the tenth anniversary of the trio's Vision cordings imprint.

The album includes 22 remastered tracks from the label's back catalogue, and two new unreleased songs (bundle only) - Noisia's 'Incessant', and a collaboration between Noisia, Mefjus & Hybris called 'Reptilians'. Besides (now) classic tunes from Noisia themselves, the tracklist features works by some of the most respected artists in drum & bass, including Phace, The Upbeats, Calyx & TeeBee, Spor, Black Sun Empire and Mayhem.

'Ten Years Of Vision Recordings' is available as a double CD accompanied and a limited edition forty page book showcasing ten years of Vision artwork, featuring all vinyl, CD and digital covers, booklets and sleeves. Each week Vision will run a Throwback Thursday promotion, whereby the label will upload a release from back catalogue onto their SoundCloud and YouTube channels. At the end of February, Noisia will create a special podcast around the compilation release.

2014 stands as a defining moment for the RAM Records imprint. Not only did it announce the pivotal signing of artists like Audio, Teddy Killerz and Bensley but they also oversaw the birth of compilation series RAMLife hosted by Loadstar. Even in its first form, it contained nearly every essential release the last twelve months had to offer.

But this year, RAMLife is taking you into deeper and murkier dimensions. Having already flexed his production muscle on the ricocheting, four-track 'Nil by Mouth' EP, as well as his first visual debut in the music video for 'Heads Up', it's now time for Audio to cut open and expose his musical psyche.

Including some of the most aggressive, technically adept and prominent artists the genre has to offer, including Bad Company, Optiv & BTK and Noisia to name a few, no stone goes unturned for the album's entirety. Audio also throws bass-fuelled bullets in the form of exclusives, with explosive VIPs that have yet to be released.

The brand new cut 'Foodchain' from Audio sets a theme which is prevalent throughout all 27 tracks. Uncompromising yet diligently crafted, it leads you into a freight train of musicality which holds you hostage from start to finish. Zipping through to the mechanical composition of Mefjus' 'Brainwork', all the way back to Spor's heavy-hitting 'Bullet Time' remix; this is a no holds barred exploration of the genre's darker side.

Während "Orbiting" sehr durch Guindos Kindheit im XIIIten Bezirk von Paris (Chinatown) mit vielen hohen Gebäuden und schmalen Gassen beeinflusst ist, blickt "CENTRUM" auf die Zeit nach seinem Debut zurück: Viele Gigs in der ganzen Welt verteilt, zum Großteil auf Techno-Parties, auf denen Guindos Bass- und Footwork-Einflüsse wohl meistens zu kurz kamen. Auch das ist hörbar auf der Platte, die sich tatsächlich im Gegensatz zu "Orbiting" von Bass und Footwork wegbewegt - natürlich nicht zu 100%! Aber Ambient und Techno sind die Genres, in dessen Richtung Guindo sich dieses Mal eher orientiert. "CENTRUM" ist keine reine Clubplatte, die von vorn bis hinten mit 'Brettern' vollgestopft ist (obwohl fähige DJs trotzdem viel Stoff finden werden). Fans von "Orbiting" werden in keinem Fall enttäuscht sein von "CENTRUM", einer Platte, die auch Techno-Veteranen imponieren wird.

For those who've been paying attention Cutline have been one of 2010's most successful new acts. Tesla Tune (2014) is dedicated to the inventor Nikola Tesla. The piece emits sound that comes from an alternating current transformer, which is lead through a programmer (time-adjusted frequency equalizer and switch box) to channel the sound through eight different outputs—pipes. These eight pipes of different lengths hang from a ceiling, producing what seem to be different sounds, but the frequency is always the same, 60 Hz. The lengths of the pipes affect the pitch.

Finnbogi Pétursson, born in Reykjavík, Iceland, has been exhibiting since 1980 and is one of Iceland's most prominent light and sound artists. He is known for works that fuse sound, light, sculpture, architecture, and drawings. Sound—a crucial element—is typically incorporated into spare sculptural installations. Pétursson represented Iceland at the Venice Biennial in 2001 with his monumental sound installation Diabolus. His artworks are held in numerous private collections as well as at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, Vienna, Austria, and the National Gallery of Iceland, Reykjavík, Iceland. Permanent installations are at Landsvirkjun, Vatnsfellsvirkjun (an electric power plant) Reykjavík University, and the Reykjavík Energy Headquarters. Finnbogi lives and works in Reykjavík, Iceland.

Mannequin Records is proud to present one of the most rare and unknown Italian Minimal Synth bands from the 80's. Musumeci were formed in Turin at the beginning of 1985, from an idea of Mauro M. (synthesizers - ex guitar player of Rude Pravo) and Franco G.
(programming - ex noise maker of Errata-S-Corrige).
The group was founded as a link and expression of various experiences, aimed, at least initially, to highlight the individual personalities of the members. The formation settles after six months of testing with the final entry of Laura G. (ex-keyboardist of Rude Pravo) and Paul C. (voice of K Position). Musumeci were playing several shows, preceded by long monologues in which find space rumorism, electrical scans, voices, screams, etc.
Presented here are the two super rare demo tapes that Musumeci recorded in 1985 ("Schwarz Morgen") and in 1986 ("Zusammen"), on their own label Zeltweg.

"MARS ETC." was recorded in The Notwist's own studio, produced by Olaf Opal.

Living on Superstition is the debut LP from New York native Phil Tortoroli a.k.a. James Place. After his initial cassette release An Entire Matchbook A Night (Opal Tapes) in 2014, James Place returns with a harrowing, med- itative record of candle-lit rhythms and frost-laden ambience. The album was composed using an intricate collection of analog equipment, includ- ing the TR-606, Casio SK-1, SP1200, and a multitude of vinyl and tape- based samples, and mastered by M. Geddes Gengras.

White Asega co-­owner Jack Dixon wrote New Curtains after a friend who was coming wildly off the rails told him he was a good producer but his tunes were boring. The original version was really sparse and about 300bpm. When Jack moved to New York the parts got lost, so he remade the track a dozen times. This was the version we all liked best, although Jack never wants to hear it again in his life. It sounds tough and tropical. Our friend Troy Gunner remixed it, and turned it into something so loud and slamming it will knock your teeth out.

After telling Jack to stop making boring music, Mark Kodiak spent two horrendous years working with Jamie Kodiak on a song they've called Taargus. It nearly destroyed their friendship forever but we think it was worth it. It has brutal weapon sounds, nasty snares and an incessant 'yo' that has been described as 'annoying and unnecessary'. The artist Tom Pounder has created a blinding video for it that contains brand new colours. French born bass genius Bambounou stepped up to remix the track, taming the wild stems into a hypnotic early­morning House stepper.

Ryan Teague is a composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist based in Bristol. Leading up to the release of their next album, Tribazik return with the remx EP 'Spacetime Collapse', featuring remixes from such electronic royalty as Venetian Snares. Tribazik are no newcomers to the spotlight. Having supported influential post punk band Killing Joke on their European tour and having previously enjoyed reviews from Rock Sound, Kerrang and Terrorizer on their last album 'All Blood Is Red', mixed by Andy Gill, of Gang Of Four, the band are establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Band members Hedge Seel, Jerry Kandiah and Syan Barlow have each earnt their music industry colours. Jerry runs the infamous Old Street studios, Syan's last band Interlock released the critically acclaimed album 'Crisis//Reinvention' on Anticulture records in 2004, and Hedge's intricate drum solos are enough to make a session player wet himself.
The EP is a rock-electronic fusion, that takes Jungle drum patterns and Acid Techno bleeps and puts them together with menacing bass guitar riffs and distorted electric guitars. The original mix's intro greets us with tribal like drum fills and inspired bass guitar finger picking. Energetic vocals from Jerry soar over the percussion and bass, whilst Hedge's intense live drum work can't help but impress - it's complexity immediately intrigues. Electric guitars enter sporadically mingling side by side with acid squelches. A daring fusion pulled off. Coming to the first remix, we have Venetian Snares' interpretation. VSnares, as he is sometimes known, is a man who needs little introduction, having received praise from industry icons such as John Peel and having released on Planet Mu, for the last 12 years. Here he dishes out a 5 minute workout of insane amen break madness. This is perfectly complemented by drilling bass hits and vocal samples. The sheer complexity of the drum programming is astonishing.
Next up - Chris Liberator and Sterling Moss provide an Acid techno remix.
Having built up a solid reputation in the world of Acid Techno, the pair have
been selling out shows in; Australia, Japan and Brazil. Taking the bass
guitar and putting it behind a marching bassline, the production duo
then build up in insistency and urgency into an acid frenzy. Kenny Parish, AKA Ghost, offers up a gorgeously filthy remix. Drum beats
and percussion simmer away. Then we launch into full on chopped up live jungle break samples, courtesy of Hedge Seel. Meanwhile Ghost pumps gallons of throbbing bass into the mix - Top notch

Behold is the second collaborative release from Oren Ambarchi and Jim O'Rourke following on from the 2011 release 'Indeed'. Seamlessly blending field recordings, electronics, guitar, drums and other acoustic instruments into a subtle combination of Krautrock, minimalism and classic free flowing electronics. Side A takes the listener into the Fourth World adventures pioneered by Jon Hassell whilst the flip seems like an unlikely pairing of Krautrock aesthetics and the slow building repetitive structures of The Necks.

In 2014, nearly three years after her acclaimed debut The Entire City (July 2011, Anti-Ghost Moon Ray), Gazelle Twin re-emerged in full force to stage and screen, gnashing her teeth and armed with pickings from her sophomore full length - UNFLESH - set for worldwide release on 22 September 2014, followed by the artist's first ever Tour in October. As a member of Lumisokea, Andrea Taeggi shapes acoustic and electronic sound alongside Koenraad Ecker, into their singular take on bass music. Time signatures fold into themselves, volleying voluptuous percussions and sesimic synthscape. This seismic fixation extends beyond press hyperbole into aesthetic and philosophical study and on 'Aum' Taeggi presents the debut release of his Gondwana project. As Gondwana-land saw a pre-Pangaean unified land mass so Andreas solo mission is to draw all his influences together and mediate the whole. Opener 'A Gospel of Dirt' sets the scene with sparse sonic elements fused against a metallic backdrop. Sounds morph from liquid to solid shapes, melodies set to scales of a different time and place. 'Bootstrapping' tickles ears with it's off-coloured arpeggios backed up by a 9 legged gallop in the tesseract. Þingvellir open the b-side in majestic style, a paen to glaciation, of gargantuan movement unmeasurable in human time. Cast in bronze tones, fizzing with combs before it's deafening crescendo. This next release demonstrates exactly what can happen when you merge a formidable heavyweight with one of the genre's most promising talents. Jaguar Skills needs little introduction; he's infamous for his ninja-like DJing skills with years stacked behind the decks.

As a result, it was no surprise the artist tried his hands at production alongside Chord's impressive musicality. Already unstoppable from its conception, 'Lust' could only be released on an imprint known for its high quality. And RAM Records is proud to unleash this toe-tapping, catchy piece of sonic artwork on the dnb community...One that's already taken the radio airwaves by storm.
Opening with a rhythm that curls itself around your aural senses, prepare to be pulled into 'Lust' by its funky groove and well-chiselled hooks. The vocal delight of Matti Roots really brings light to the seasonal feel this track creates; an arpeggio of notes underpins each high-hitting voice crescendo. Bright but not without substance, Chords' production style is instantly recognisable. This debut from Jaguar Skills serves as a perfect platform for the high standards this mix-maker is about to set, as well as the benchmark which Chords has already carved.

On the flipside, Break holds onto the A-side's sunny disposition, yet throws down a riddim that hits as heavy as a freight train. The foundations laid by the producer are slightly different, as it rattles forward with clinking percussion, alluding to the kind of drop Break is renowned for. With his distinctive, boundary-pushing drum rolls and bouncy, booming and concise hits, there's no mistaking a sound which adds another dimension to the remixes' original.

You're also served up with another dish which is vastly different from house-guru Monstro. like the previous edit, the record's humanism winds up within the first thirty seconds, however the seismic impact of its drop rolls out into a house-bassline that thumps with every bar. A genre transition which doesn't fall short of the original's production prowess, prepare to hold onto your seats because this serves as the optimal way to wrap up two striking remixes of an already impressive track list.
Dominating playlists for years to come, this release from RAM is yet again taking the genre to another level. But considering the parties involved, there was no other direction for this record to take.

The New Year starts with the welcome news that The Cosmologist returns with episode three of the Cosmology series.

Trip 1 started life as a tribute to 70's radical firebrand's The Last Poets and their 1977 clarion call to arms, 'It's a Trip'.

A loose and ever changing collective, the initial line up was formed on May 19,1968 to mark Malcolm X's birthday, having all met at East Wind, a Harlem based writers work shop.
They took their name from a revolutionary South African poet Keorapetse Kgositisile who rightly prophesized that the talking would soon give way to the persuasiveness of the gun.

Continuing that thought, civil rights for African Americans was very much the beat of The Last Poets; a cause they would champion and indeed, were not afraid to back up their mighty words with direct action.

However, the project was a long and laboured affair spanning many months, and try as they might, the original track just would not to be bent into shape for a modern dancefloor.

It simply refused to yield to the editing process, to the extent that it led to Laurie (the musical genius, rhythm section & orchestra behind The Cosmologist) labelling it a 'problem child.'

The message within that original 1978 track was so powerful and despite the advances made in racial parity in the ensuing decades, inequality remains stubbornly entrenched, leaving so much of the Last Poet's 35 year old sermon ringing as loud and true today as it did when it was first unleashed. In a Broken Britain that last year saw a massive rise in food banks on the one hand, whilst the other hand spent a staggering £6 billion at the Boxing day sales, 'the man' may have moved out of plain sight, but he is still running the same game.

In the end, following the purchase of a Roland SH 1000 (fans of Imagination will instantly recognize the bass synth that gave Body Talk & Illusion those killer hooks) it then led the track somewhere altogether unexpected. Sometimes, you just have to let go of an idea and the beats take over to decide upon the final destination.

The end result draws inspiration from' it's a Trip', where the faintest snatches of the vocal ghost in and out of the mix. From there, a slow and menacing chug builds into an epic journey that takes us to the very heart of Balearica that will we are sure, find favour amongst DJ's who opt for a more eclectic playlist .

As with any problem child, perseverance, patience and a lot of love helped Trip 1 to flourish, and to finally find its true voice.

Trip 2 is different beast altogether and can be traced back to the very dawn of the Cosmic movement, via Italian originator Daniele Baldelli. Mike Oldfield's Foreign Affair was a track he picked up on its 1983 release, as it fitted his hypnotic electronic sensibilities perfectly and many DJ's have since adopted it over the years as an ethereal end of night anthem.

As with all The Cosmologist reconstructions, the track is reworked so as to grace a contemporary setting, whilst retaining the essence of the original.

The influence of Jah Shaka hangs heavy in the air, with an authentic 70's style dub designed to rumble those speaker stacks. This is the sound of a popular holiday destination out of season and it warms the soul like late winter sunshine.

A limited, hand stamped 12" on crystal clear vinyl, this next piece in the Cosmology jigsaw will be let loose in spring, for those who know where to look...

Tonik Ensemble is the musical output of Icelander Anton Kaldal Ágústsson. Exploring the vast expanse of the electronic spectrum, his soundscapes are a mix of electronics and more organic live instruments. Together with an ever-evolving cast of talented collaborators, the output is deep, atmospheric yet soulful pseudo-techno.

Anton Kaldal Ágústsson's upcoming album 'Snapshots' is set for release on February 10th via Atomnation. Before then, Tonik Ensemble released the single 'Until We Meet Again', which came package with additional remixes by Applescal, Olaf Stuut, and fellow Icelander Snooze Infinit and found support by Xlr8r, THUMP, The Line Of Best Fit and the Bandcamp Weekly radioshow. The journey of writing the album 'Snapshots' began with exploring the colour palettes various electronics and instruments along with playing around with the human voice. The first output was the song Imprints with Icelandic vocalist Johann Kristinsson. Other vocal collaborations on the album are Shipsi from Latvian band Instrumenti, Icelander Hörður Már Bjarnason who has been part of the Tonik live set since 2012 and Icelander Ragnhildur Gisladottir, who lend her voice to legendary debut album Maxinquaye by trip hop musician Tricky.

Electro-Blues Vol.2 is a double digipack CD and download album featuring one side of vintage and another of vintage-influenced sound. Taking a fresh look at what constitutes the blues, both musically and in terms of attitude, this album is not one for the purist. Side-stepping the cliches (and taking the inevitable flak), it aims to breathe new life into a genre that once defined cool.

Side one is hot off the dance floor at our underground test-bed club nights in London and Brighton where vintage classics have been cut with hip-hop, dub step, glitch and break beat. Combining the energy and feel of the original music with the clean percussive production of the lap-top generation adds a welcome sonic frisson. Side two further compliments this by re-contextualising the idiom as a form of gritty late night jukebox entertainment and offering a reminder that the roots of this music are as much about Saturday night escapism as they are about extended guitar solos on a 12 bar progression.

Electro Blues Vol.1 was released in early 2013 and divided critical opinion and blues fans alike. It received support from the likes of Craig Charles on BBC 6Music - "I'm gonna be playing this album to death!" - and Blues & Soul Mag who gave it their coveted "most unusual blues album of the year" award. Inspired by a journey of a man, who is not afraid to leave everything behind and travel far beyond the stars, Vakula sets off for the exploration on new sound magnitudes. Written by David Lindsay in 1920, a story of a fearless traveler who is exposed to sublime energies and unknown spheres concurs with Vakula's perception of reality and his personal voyage to unknown dimensions. Claimed to be a soundtrack to A Voyage To Arcturus, the album is an attempt to expend beyond conventions of the modern house music and dedication to daring ventures.

The Fabel sound is constantly morphing through stages. From the warmth and familiarity of a 'wish you were here' family photo to the depths of an icydubbed out dream were the lines are constantly blurring. Fabel's latest album, Sinestesia takes you through the spectrum of his sonic world.Hailing from Barcelona Spain, Fabel is a sonic storyteller and multiinstrumentalist, as prolific on the keys as he is on the bass. Sinestesia is full of Fabel's signature electric piano solos and his complex baselines of labyrinth style funk. His production is a true fusion of raw live sound with modern detailed digital synth and percussion. Accompanying Fabel on a few tracks is the lovely finesse of Dutch Harpist Anne Vanschothorst and the Bluesy Guitar of Barcelona's Ian Currie. Both are musicians Fabel has been jamming with over the last years, with many of those improvised elements have woven their way into the album. On songs like the majestic 'Here once stood Elms' and spell bound down beat of 'Where's Mo'. Sinestesia has many faces but there is logic to the journey, the listener is encapsulated in the mood bluesy atmosphere, leading you down a winding road of crafted electronica and around each bend to melancholy depths and ethereal highs.

With the original first appearing in 2012 on Octane & DLR's 'Method In The Madness' album, the Break & DLR VIP has revitalized the initial buzz of an already popular track, in spectacular fashion. Causing havoc on dancefloors worldwide, it has already seen heavy rotational support by Friction on his BBC Radio 1 show (with 6 plays on the show in total to date).

* In addition, we present a new, original track from DLR; the immaculately detailed 'Regeneration'. This drops us right back to the late 90s with a cosmic vibe that pays homage to the Virus / Konflict era, brought right up to date. Four decades on and Azymuth has reached legendary status amongst fans worldwide and across the music industry thanks to the trio's pioneering blend of traditional Brazilian jazz and proto funk fusion from the early 70's right through to the present day.

In 1979 the band's first Milestone Records release, 'Light As A Feather' quickly became one of the best-selling LPs of the year. Featuring the worldwide disco/fusion hit single 'Jazz Carnival' and going on to sell more than half a million copies internationally, the album stayed in the UK Top 20 for eight straight weeks. An incredibly well thought out album both in pace, song selection and musicality, 'Light As A Feather' marked a maturing of the band as they began to rightfully utilise the studio as an instrument itself, embracing numerous mixing and recording techniques not yet common for the time as well as pioneering the use of the Big Muff and Dolby System to great effect. The end result is an album that endures to this day as a jazz funk masterpiece.

Valentin Stip emigrated to New York City in middle school and immediately fell in with a creative crowd including then fledgling producer and future Other People label head, Nicolas Jaar. Upon learning the ins and outs of electronic production, Stip discovered a new, personal way of interpreting the darkly shaded piano music he'd been writing. Now in its third year, the label is based in NC's home town of Toronto, Canada, and has become a go-to label for those looking for drum & bass with a difference.

Always hard, always dedicated, and always with an eye on the future. And now the UK's Voltage is bringing the flavour to the label, coming correct with a four-track EP.

Voltage is one of d&b's veterans, with a string of hits under his belt, such as Hard Goin, both under his own name and as a member of the mighty Cabin Fever. He's worked with a ranage of names throughout the scene, and is now dropping some massive tunes as a solo artist. Get ready to dive deep into some new sounds from Grindhou5e and Voltage.

The EP starts off with the quite frankly big Tingz A Gwarn. Floating around some old skool themes, Voltage brings all of his power and rage to the lead track. Snarling, slowly developing bass underpins some sharp, rolling breaks and eerie, unusual samples. Shimmering synths complete the package, making for an urgent, booming track to set things off perfectly. Element two of the EP is Element One, on which Voltage switches up on us, injecting some electronic flavour into the track's opening. Things continue in a dark, deep kind of a way, with some rangy effects put into the mix. An essential track, one not to be slept on.

Make sure you keep more than an ear out for Rollers Express, the kind of tune which might just blow your mind. Plenty of low end, plenty of funk-fuelled future sounds, and plenty tof grit and attitude, all delivered in the unique Voltage way. Every detail is looked into and covered, and the production is as exact as you would expect. Huge.

The final stop on the journey is Hornet, an insane, infectious slice of funk. Rolling beats, flavourful basslines and enough sting for even the hardest junglist, this one is right up there as well.

SQM Part I is Oubys' second album on Testtoon (Part II will be released later this year) Oubys develops his characteristic sound into an exploration of source, energy and contemplation. The six tracks here play with melody, atmosphere and contrast and produce a stream of consciousness like parallel world that invites as much as it challenges. Bristol-based producer Jinx in Dub is well known for delivering the rudeboy reggae skank across multiple bass music genres, from
d'n'b to dubstep, breakbeat and beyond. Here he purloins the classic Michael Rose/Black Uhuru number Party Next Door and sends
it spinning into jungle mayhem on the frenetic Amen in Session, in the process creating an instant badboy anthem.
On the flip, Jinx links with Kanjah's Seek and Find track which samples Massive Attack legend Horace Andy for another rolling,
rastafarian floorkiller that slides in and out of dubby drum workout territory each time it drops. Classic sounds from a producer with a
serious understanding
of how to make the breakbeats kick, and another absolutely essential double-header for discerning record bags from Jungle Cakes.

Mind Brains is a new band/recording project originating from Athens, GA featuring former Olivia Tremor Control member Eric Harris (on homemade electronic drum set), alongside Emily Waldron (lead guitar and electric auto harp), Kris Deason (synths and homemade electronics) and Hannah Jones (percussion and tympani), with appearances by Heather McIntosh, Andy Gonzales and John Fernandes. It was written and recorded by the group and it features a lot of home made electronic instruments and a dog with a cough. The music runs the gamut from pretty and strange group vocal excursions to long, meandering electronic instrumental passages, at times reminiscent of the works of the Residents or Captain Beefheart.

Full of sharp clicks and snares backed by a warm textured synth, this melody-driven track is just overflowing. It's just another tune that you'll wanna keep listening from the EP which features five tracks (including Rain Jacket) all with a coherent sound backed by an amazing production. The EP Will be released on September 16th on 12inch, and on digital stores like iTunes, Xbox, Juno and Beatport but you can already pre-order the EP on Bandcamp.
Pascaal is Peter Wiley, an Austin based producer who instantly got a little following after his debut with 'Dragonlillies' and followed with same success 'Rain Jacket'. He's already been featured on Indie Shuffle, Earmilk and Neighborhood Tapes and has been played by Booddha in his DJ sets.

The less we know about Belgian sound alchemist Pepijn Caudron (aka Kreng), the better. We know his debut release 'L'Autopsie Phenomenale De Dieu' appeared seemingly out of nowhere on the Miasmah label in 2009, but other than that very little tangible information has surfaced. This sequel, the blackly monikered 'Grimoire' simply re-enforces Caudron's shadowy legacy with a similarly dank concoction of cracked strings, creaking percussion and half-heard dialogue. Thankfully however Caudron has refined his craft in every way, from the artfully restrained layering of samples to the deliriously magickal atmosphere he manages to conjure up. There is the sense even from the first few seconds of the record that you are transported out of time and reality, and as hoarse, alien breaths croak over oily bass drones the poignant spoken words 'You don't belong here' become an apt anchor for the entire album.

Excellent old shool drum & Bass, for once Criterion does not go Jungle ! Ugh !

The release of Somebody, Somewhere (ERS002) really helped shape the feel and sound of Emotional Response in its infancy. In another way it helped Timothy step away from being known as engineer extraordinaire to the likes of Andrew Weatherall and Daniel Avery and to establish him as a proper solo artist with his own, particular musical vision. Now a fully established solo artist with releases across a myriad of labels, DJ gigs across the
globe and also being co-owner of the Crimes Of The Future label, Timothy returns to Emotional Response with a mini-LP of brooding intensity. We start with the tough The Quay, where his more expansive House and Techno productions of late are glimpsed on a dubbed out dance flor, before his increasing interest in break beats is again examined on the self-explanatory Unexplained Intergalactic Radio Bursts. It is however, the deep, deep heavy synth cuts Salamoor that sees a full return to the sound Timothy was fist associated with, all late night keys and (space) echo percussion. This is seen again later on Night Ferry and the classic closing track, Is It Wrong, however before that is the title cut, Stories Of Prison. A full on bump along dark streets, this has a deathly kick that shakes bones. It's easy to throw lines like Carpenter and Goblin, arpeggios and horror lines, but it's all here in his own inimitable way. A welcome look at TFJ. The future offers more to come, but sometimes it's good to go back.

There's always been a hugely cinematic tone to Dark Dark Dark's music, be it through the immersive sense of atmosphere much of the instrumentation and vocals instill, or the image-strewn lyrics and sense of place that can transport the listener to another world. So it makes perfect sense that they would end up in the world of cinema. However, this is not simply a film score commission. Here the group's involvement with Flood Tide runs much, much deeper. Flood Tide is written and directed by former band member Todd Chandler, and features the band both as characters and performers.
Set within artist Swoon's floating junk sculptures project, 'Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea', Flood Tide both documents and reimagines the real-life journey of Swoon and her collaborators as they build boats out of junk and set out on the open water of the Hudson River. All of this is accompanied by an original, nineteen song soundtrack by Dark Dark Dark.

The film and soundtrack release comes after a fruitful and productive few years for the group. After releasing the much praised debut album on melodic 'Wild Go' in 2011, the band followed up with full-length 'Who Needs Who' in 2012, and then the 'What I Needed' EP in 2013, a year that saw them tour the world, play two ATP's within 6 months (curated by The National and TV On The Radio), as well as create a score to Jerome Hill's La Cartomancienne. Flood Tide also premiered in 2013 at the Torino Film Festival, exposing the world to the group's rich and evocative soundtrack for the very first time.

With much of Dark Dark Dark's previous material being glued together by the distinctive vocals of Nona Marie Invie, this soundtrack is unique in that it is primarily instrumental, an approach that motivated the group immensely. 'We were excited to have an opportunity to make an instrumental record because we've always been inspired by bands like Rachel's and Dirty Three, and soundtracks like those from the movies Waking Life and Dead Man,' say the band. Much like some of the influences and inspirations mentioned here, the soundtrack to Flood Tide succeeds as a stand-alone record, even when free from its contextual home of the film. 'This is a really unique record,' the group say of the project, 'it's much more textural and ambient than most Dark Dark Dark material.
The line-up featured on the soundtrack is one that never toured full time, and this record is a beautiful document of the chemistry and sensibilities of that variation of the band. The group have taken the material on the road, playing it in strange, distinctive places that are emblematic of the film's own unique journey. 'We've played this material in a hand-built drive-in movie theatre filled with junk cars, on rafts on the Hudson River, in the canals of Venice and in museums across the USA.'

The double gatefold vinyl release wraps up this project for the band perfectly, 'We're excited to have the recordings out in the world. It's a document of a special time in our lives. Releasing a small run of vinyl with a download of the film seems like the most beautiful and intimate way to share this project.'

A year before exploding onto the electronic music scene in 2011 with the critically acclaimed Progress Chance, Ricardo Donoso's debut release "Deterrence" was issued as an extremely limited cassette edition - a through-composed ambient piece, "Deterrence" is stripped of all the rhythmic flux which he has become known for. Considered by many in underground circles to be a true masterwork of the Dark Ambient genre, "Deterrence" is often times compared to works by artists such as Lustmord, Biosphere & Deathprod.
