Third album from the million selling, award-winning pop duo The Ting Tings, AKA Jules De Martino and Katie White.

A modern disco record, 'Super Critical' was inspired by the duo's travels through New York and Berlin. It was written in Ibiza in an old hillside finca overlooking the sea, away from everything but the Ibizian club scene.

After six months of solid writing the band accidentally befriended Duran Duran's Andy Taylor and an experiment turned into a studio lock in and as a result both Andy and Jules act as co-producers for 'Super Critical'.

The album was mixed straight onto analogue tape in New York at the legendary Avatar Studios. It features the singles 'Wrong Club' and 'Do It Again'.

"here back in Buenos Aires after more than three months touring...so nice to slow down and relax a bit."
Those were the first words coming from an email from Anla after
another long tour around Europe but there had been many other tours.Day 10. After a long train delay in Mannheim we were confused and exhausted and not remembering where the next destination would be.
Mannheim had only offered a hard floor as bed and no sheets, and this is in the middle of winter time. Of course this experience gave us the idea that we should or more precisely MOST do a record together which concept would be: Travelling. Like an audio travel guide. Plus we are all big fans of the Travelling Wilburys. We thought this idea to be one of the best one on this tour so far. In the train we were listening to Future Days by CAN.
Day 4. Moving backwards a bit here. We caught Anla working on
recordings in his hotel room. This was in Stockholm and one of the better paid gigs, with hotel rooms for all of us.
Anla was interested in the sound coming from the heater in the bathroom. So he started recording it´s sound using a dictaphone. It sounded really interesting and was made into a long fade at the nights gig in Stockholm.
That same sound you can hear on the record.
Day 6: Copenhagen: Here traditional town flavors, located bookstores can be found all around. Beer capital town some might say. Weather was not on our side and the trip took close to 12 hours but was all worth it.
I think it was Siggi saying something along the lines of: "Expensive but worth it!"
Helgi also remembering that time in the late 90s when touring with
Reynols. Back then we did gigs with small card paper boxes as main sound source.
Day 8: The Keukenhof Gardens, Leiden, Holland. We decided to invite some local musicians to the bar, as we had a few days off we took advantage of doing a few outtakes. Some of it appears on this record but we can't tell you where as the track listing got mixed-up by the recording engineers.

Sean Byrne's Bugskull project returned in 2009 after a long hiatus with the Digitalis-released 'Communication'. A few years later they released the acoustic curveball, 'Strange Mountain', on legendary Inland Empire label, Shrimper. We're very happy that the proper follow-up to Communication has landed on the Digitalis shores again.'Collapsed View' is a whimsical summer excursion through jaded forests and crystalline tides. On the plucked acoustic opener, 'Heaven/California,' you're gently dropped into Byrne's hazy lair. The repetitive main dirge moves like molasses until you're appropriately comatose. It's a dizzying beginning that settles nicely into the bass crunch of 'Olde Growth.' Forward movement in the form of a canned ramshackle beat underlines the drawn out leads that appear to floating in a puff of smoke. 'Icarus Rising' steals the show with it's jet propulsion bass line and psych-infused guitar leads. It's an intoxicating combination that gets better with repeated listens.Byrne breaks out all the stops on 'Collapsed View,' mutating gamelan-esque electronics into an oceanside romp on 'Druids.' Hypnotic guitar swells wrap around the piece, elevating it onto a different plane. It begins the second side which, compared to the A-Side, is a meditative ambient affair. Saxophone lamentations puncuate the title track drawing a circle around a star-filled night in the middle of nowhere.

'Superimpositions' is the hyper-coloured conceptual follow-up to multi-disciplinary Milanese artist, Lorenzo Senni's landmark LP, 'Quantum Jelly' (Editions Mego, 2012). It further consolidates, accelerates and evolves his idea of 'Pointillistic Trance' - an ascetic, extreme approach to the aesthetic essence of '90s-style trance/hard-trance - with a broader range of song structures, minimalist moiré patterns, and tantric dancefloor arrangements, all executed to visceral impact and challenging, exhilarating effect. Angling deeper into his stripped set-up - a computer-controlled JP8000 Roland Digital Analog Modelled S-Source Synthesiser - 'Superimpositions' reveals seven glistening examples of Lorenzo's current praxis, finding the biting point between emotional, realtime human input, and the sleek tension of synthesis. Opener, 'Happic' arches up with breathtaking effect, and never quite gives it back during its seemingly infinite ascent, whilst 'Elegant, and Never Tiring' is a spine-tingling exercise in aerobic coefficients, and the title track tiers teasing chords in a sisyphean struggle for deferred gratification. At the LP's blinding, white hot core, the heart-rush flux of bass arpeggios and spiralling hi-end in 'Forever Headline' threaten to careen off the platter, harnessing the rush of a million 'crasher kids circa '98, before closer 'PointillistiC' broadsides with a cascade of lip-bitingly beautiful, melancholic chords. ark Fell and Mat Steel formed SND in Sheffield in 1998. Tplay was their first self-released EP, produced in a
limited run and housed in a sleeve adorned with nothing but a stamped phone number on the back.
SND's palette and minimalist aesthetic more or less fell inline with the emergent school of producers that
would eventually find themselves as labelmates on the Mille Plateaux label and the monolithic Raster Noton
(Ikeda, Pan Sonic, Alva Noto, Bretschneider) - but as opposed to the intricacies and overly-academic
strictures that would occupy so many of their contemporaries over the following decade, in hindsight it's
easy to identify how SND uniquely managed to re-code the swing & shuffle of UK Garage and Two-Step
within a new minimalist paradigm.
Although producers such as G-Man, Sterac, Jeff Mills and Rob Hood had been stripping bare Techno templates
since the early 90's, it wasn't until later in the decade that dots where joined between movements in Techno
and experimental electronic music. This was mostly a serious and contemplative movement - typified by
the fetishisation of abstract forms on the one hand, and rigid, Teutonic movement on the other. But with the release of Tplay SND had created a sound that was unlike anything else made at the time. Although they were guided by minimalist principles, their productions were also driven by the momentum of a much more colourful type of urban music. Simply put - there was no one else bridging gaps between the austere functions of European electronic music and London's emergent two-step sound. Truth is - if you bought Ryoji Ikeda albums you were unlikely to have thought much of Artful Dodger - and yet SND made music that drew influence and parallels from both. Listening over 15 years later, it's startling just how fresh and forward these productions sound, now bolstered by over 30 minutes of previously unheard recordings taken from the same sessions. At a time when some corners of club music are arguably more accepting than ever before of strange and challenging production styles, its incredible just how unique and inimitable SND's sound still is, taking us full circle to current producers like Visionist, Mumdance and Rabit who look to challenge dancefloor conventions by using the same principle of reduction and innovation without neglecting the dance

One of the most destitute and absorbing albums in Leyland Kirby's canon is finally given a much needed vinyl pressing, following on from its initial CD release 6 years ago. 'Bleaklow' is harrowing from the start, the opening 'Something To Do With Death' reverberating dread via layers of unstable, radiant drones punctuated with pained, hi- pitched howls that cut through the mix with violent intent.

By the time Bonobo plays London's legendary Alexandra Palace on 28th November 2014, the epic career-defining tour around his latest album The North Borders, the band will have travelled 180,000 miles, taken in 175 shows in 30 countries across 3 continents over 18 months in front of 2 million people. It's an exhaustive, beautifully captured record of the show. The audio and video were recorded and filmed at The Roundhouse in London and in the incredible Pula Arena, a genuine Roman Amphitheatre.

Just in time for autumn, Fran invites us into club music's parallel world with the project Hamlet: aided by Oded K.dar (NÖRD / The Koletzkis) on the piano, she presents cover versions of beloved electronic classics such as 'Sky and Sand', 'Limit to your Love', 'Howling' or 'Hypnotized' on the fittingly titled album 'Piano'. The initial idea came to the duo at a birthday party; the first baby steps followed the very next day. Surprised by the potential, the autodidactic singer Fran and the studied concert pianist Oded searched far and wide for the perfect grand piano, which they eventually found in the form of an old Steinway at the Greve Studio in Berlin. Thus, the drunken whim developed into fourteen beautiful covers over the course of numerous nightly recording sessions. Reduced to vocals and piano, Hamlet let the original track's essence resound. One is able to hear the soul of the song, as the minimalistic rendition enables breathing space. Moderat's 'Bad Kingdom' or Kraftwerk's 'Das Modell' suddenly appear like honest black and white portraits. The words and melodies, embedded in the harmonies of the piano, are like the wrinkles and peculiarities of a face stripped of make-up, emerging in a hitherto unseen fashion. A new aesthetic is created through the reduction. Removed from the club, the songs on 'Piano' are defined by their pure emotiveness - sometimes of a euphoric, sometimes of a melancholic nature - while they are also a nostalgic bridge to their original context. They seem like a vague memory of a late night; like the walk home in the quiet hour before dawn.

Paul White has long established himself as an acclaimed hip-hop producer, but on his debut LP for R&S Records he expands his horizons with the most personal music of his career to date. With the sampler laid aside, the South Londoner emerges as a multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer as he charts the intoxication, heartbreak and ultimate triumph of a grand love affair.



Shaker Notes is White's fourth album as a solo artist after he made his name in 2008 with the oddball cult classic The Strange Dreams of Paul White, but his first for R&S. The legendary Belgian label is a natural home for someone whose musical world was blown wide open by Aphex Twin's 'Xtal' as a teen and while he has not turned his back on beats, this LP marks the true emergence of a remarkable artist.

This is dubby, deep-space funk like only Om Unit could do it, but with a Shoot Recordings sheen. The fatness.

KRAKE is an annual Berlin based festival for challenging electronic music. Krake means - octo- pus' and the festival is organised in a comparable way: reaching out to selected locations during one week presenting the best in electronic music whatever style it is. The festival is not huge, not expensive, does not have big sponsoring deals or four different colour are passes. It's just a good and so far successful try to bring back the focus on artists who dare to step off the beaten tracks.
KRAKE 002 contains mostly exclusive tracks of artists who played at the Krake festival in 2013. The A-side starts with a dark ambient drone by DÄMMERN, followed by a pop-fueled two-step hit by PHON.O. Next in line is Irishman EOMAC with a warm and deep IDM track already char- ted by none less than Thom Yorke of Radiohead, followed by - Resolution', a little melancholic stepper by BILL YOUNGMAN.
The B-side is being opened with a techno track by grandmaster MONOLAKE in his most typical dubby percussive style. For the next track FRANK BRETSCHNEIDER reduces the sounds to the max again to deliver a percussive track as minimalistic as can be. Legendary techno producer CRISTIAN VOGEL, known for his constant search for new values, closes the compilation with an avantgarde piece of noise and drones.

Ben Frost represents one of today's new breed of musicians who conjures an aural broth that inhabits an amorphous cross-section of genres. Ben Frost and Daníel Bjarnason are two composers used to shrugging off the distinction between experimental sound-art and deeply felt melodies. Frost's vast, blackened post-industrial works often crystallize in moments of quiet beauty before disintegrating in pure visceral noise; Bjarnason's orchestral music marries brutal modernism to classical aesthetics one moment and soaring ethereal harmonies the next.

Mundo Recordings proudly presents the new album release "Being Human Being"! A new collaboration between Erik Truffaz and Murcof, with a special artwork by Enki Bilal.

Art is the product of singular vision, but singularity is often enhanced when the 'artist' is plural. Swiss trumpeter Erik Truffaz has worked with Mexican-born sound artist Murcof (originally Fernando Corona) since 2006 when they worked as a trio with Talvin Singh. That fruitful relationship brought together Truffaz's investment in modern jazz (he has been that archetypal thing, a Blue Note artist), a sharp ear for the new discoveries of contemporary composers like Giya Kancheli and others in the eclectic world of new music, and developed a creative conversation with the world of noise, glitch and spectral electronics that is the abode, though by no means isolated abode of Murcof, who is an arch-collaborator, the kind of artist who seems most himself when in dialogue with others. That relationship was suddenly broadened and lent fresh intensity when in 2012 Truffaz met the charismatic Enki Bilal, painter, illustrator and creator of the 'Nikipol' sequence, an man who can conjure a whole world with a few strokes of pen or brush, and imply a whole narrative in a facial expression or modification of the body. It was inevitable that when these men came together, that extraordinary work would ensue. That work is the multi-form piece BeingHumanBeing, which exists as recorded event, as film collage and as the basis - the score, if one likes - of further performances. Its subject matter is clearly stated in the title. If homo sapiens is a singularity in planetary evolution, these are the men best qualified to peer over that event horizon and into the strange world that is our collective future.

Laurent Wery' s clubhit Hey Hey Hey has been around for over a year in clubs all over the world. The track gets a refix with the appealing vocals of DEV (known from the hit "like a G6" by Far East Movement).

With very little music made available to the public Lido established a cult following amongst the high profile DJs that have been lucky enough to seure his unreleased remixes to play in their live set. These unreleased remixes - with their signature intro four notes acting as a craftsmen stamp (the same notes illustrated on the cover) - have led to numerous bootleg live recordings of the remixes; giving an almost folklore-eque mythical quality to them. This EP - led by the single of the same name - is the first release to feature original music of Lido's. It is being released on Pelican Fly, the cult Franco-Belgian label that introduced the world to the likes of occasional Lido collaborator Cashmere Cat. It strays away from thetraditional four to the floor of electronic music, instead highlighting hip hop influenced beats, walls of synth and heavily treated vocals, all with the ominous specter of pop know how lurking in the shadows.

3 space tunes bring 3 different aspects of My Gloomy Machine. On the long side, a very ambientish downtempo piano melancolious tune... But it's the 2 b-sides tunes that brings the vibe : one Breaky Snarian romantic song and one Tehcno break melodious... Piano obsession !

Necro Deathmort follow up from last year's EP1 12" with the logically nomenclatured EP2 on Distraction Records. Where EP1 was an exercise in cosmic 70s, 80s and 90s electronic experimentation, EP2 explores the heavier end of the NDM sound in what is fair to say a crushing behemoth of a record, with bespoke artwork by Thomas Neulinger.

EP2 features (but isn't limited to) a sluggish (and slugging) dark groove, HUGE crashing drums, drenched in echo (Sundive), dirgey windswept, creepy as hell, eerie synth, degenerating into yer classic riffing abstract, pummeling DOOM (Mirus), glitchy stuttering loops and fuzzed-out electrodoom poundage (Channel Fever), epic, imposing, startling and all round just raw and heavy as fuck 16-rpm black metal, (Bleeding), desolate sirens, dejecting synth and fucked layers of electronic drone (Deadlight), and a sorrowful creeping dread John Carpenter-style drum pounder that climaxes into a bleak nothingness (Aer).

For optimal enjoyment, this vinyl should be played at a high volume on a sound system capable of reproducing extremely low frequencies. The band will complete their vinyl trilogy next year with EP3.

Necro Deathmort - AJ Cookson and Matthew Rozeik - are the duo that emerged from London's underground doom scene with a sound described by theQuietus as "Veering seamlessly between dub-infused electronica, pounding sludge and experimental noise, their music is as intriguingly fresh as it is furiously grim." Their first album proper, This Beat is Necrotronic, came out in 2009 on Newcastle's Distraction label; and picked up steam as a sleeper word-of-mouth hit until aQuarius Records made the album a Record of the Week. Soon, NDM were very much in demand, playing festivals and touring Europe, and going from strength to strength following their albums Music of Bleak Origin (2011) and The Colonial Script (2012).

The last few years have saw Necro Deathmort play Sonar, Supersonic, Asymmetry, CTM, Soy and Audioscope festivals, as well as internationally renowned doom-fest Roadburn. They've remixed Steven Wilson, Ulver, RA, Dead Fader and Altar of Plagues. NDM have also played alongside Ulver, Atari Teenage Riot, Godflesh, GY!BE, Shining (NOR), Ufomammut, The Haxan Cloak, Dub Trio, dUSK, Sleep, Warm Digits, and Altar of Plagues.

A dusty Korg organ is powered on in an old Texas dancehall, while the jukebox plays 30 yrs of number ones. There is a stage but no one is on it. Soft Vision is Brad Barr and Kelly Winchester, of Austin, TX, and they are responsible for the hit song "Feel It Coming On."

Following 'Angels and Devils', the momentous album from The Bug (aka Kevin Martin), comes the 'Exit' EP featuring new collaborations with Liz Harris (of Grouper) and Daddy Freddy, plus 'Function' featuring Manga, album opener 'Void' and new track 'Black Wasp'. * Punch Drunk Records presents the 2nd chapter in its Worth the Weight CD compilation series, selected once again by Peverelist and presented in a digipak CD format.
* Since launching in 2006 with a vision of documenting Bristol's burgeoning and idiosyncratic reaction to dubstep, Punch Drunk has become a byword for quality and daring. The label has become a tastemaker in its own right, defining an era within the city's rich musical heritage. The last eight years has seen Punch Drunk release bonafide classics from artists developed, encouraged and debuted by the label; some of whom have gone on to become internationally recognised artists.
* The corner stones of Dubloaded, a club event that Pinch ran in conjunction with Peverelist, and Rooted Records, the record store managed by Peverelist, provided an era of fertile ground for local artists such as Headhunter, Appleblim, RSD and Joker. The first edition of Worth the Weight, featuring these artists and more, was released in 2010 and selected tracks from the first 4 years of the Bristol dubstep explosion.
* After the wider dubstep scene went overground, moving away from its original roots and context, the Bristol scene recalibrated and reflected on those dynamic first few years. Peverelist was keen to keep the Punch Drunk momentum heading in a direction of mutation and innovation true to its original manifesto, unique to and reflective of Bristol.
* Worth the Weight Volume 2 represents that second era, when a new school of Bristol artists were beginning to emerge. Many of them found their first releases at Punch Drunk and are featured on this compilation. Kahn's first two 12's for the label were a dichotomy of colourful swung rhythms and heads down, deep and dark sound system music. Ekoplekz released two LPs for the label drawing influence from Cabaret Voltaire via King Tubby, defining his own plane of dystopian dub. Zhou, a duo from the city's Young Echo collective, released two 12's mastering their own esoteric perspective on heavyweight UK Dub grooves. Andy Mac's UK house variants brought the funk and bounce back to Bristol's clubs, whilst Tessela's pounding percussion tracks rained down relentlessly on dancefloors. Bass Clef's recent masterful and acclaimed psychedelic voyage through techno on his Reeling Skullways LP is represented alongside rising star Hodge whose Resolve 12' is surely a highlight of the labels catalogue.
* This new compilation provides a perfect snapshot of a city in constant flux, seen through the eyes of a label with a unique perspective on its surroundings. Punch Drunk has always operated from the periphery, sticking to its guns and staying true to its raison d'être. So here we are, 2014, Worth The Weight, selector please, From The Edge...
* The CD and digital compilation is preceded by 12' of a classic Punch Drunk track re-versioned for 2014 by a contemporary Bristol legend. Kowton's remix of Peverelist's Roll With The Punches also features on the CD compilation, whilst the 12' includes an exclusive dub mix of the track.

The seventh Modal Analysis release comes from Athenian producer and DJ, ANFS. Following his remix for Kondaktor's Signal #1 , ANFS returns to the label with his debut release, 'Ground', a four track EP which consists of original material. Borrowing sounds from early twentieth century folk Greek culture, the EP is dominated by a rhythmic canibalistic spirit and a noisy distorted cue. Ground #1 functions as an introduction, or rather one's initiation to the mystic rituals that prevail. The artist uses drones and distorted textures which increase in Ground#2
and are backed up by drums that beat in a hard-and-slow ethnic tonality. Ground#3 reveals a paroxysm of emotions which comes as a result from the combination of basslines and vocals that create a complex and twisted vortex. The trip ends with Ground#4, a more stripped down monotonic ensemble that serves as an epilogue and a catharsis.

Stomping enough for the ravers and detailed enough for armchair warriors alike. A slick take on how far you can push the DnB framework whilst still retaining enough clarity and punch for it to work on the dancefloor. Reminiscent of early Corrupt Souls & Stakka & Skynet.
* To complete the release; Baracks begins with a twisted, organic tinged melody. Splashy hi-hats, cavernous darkness and emotive harmony that when it drops makes a highly inventive use of dubstep-esq micro edits to create a bassline where the tiny moments of silence contained within it almost contain as much forward motion and flux as the actual multi-layered, resampled synth tones used to build the enormous sound in the first place.

With a discography featuring the likes of Mindtech, Trust in Music and Citrus Recordings between them, Cruel Culture and Keosz team up for 'Dunwall'. A rolling juggernaut, 'Dunwall' packs in retro synths, advanced percussion and high level production for a track that is as subtle as it is devastating. Featuring a pounding but smooth bassline, 'Dunwall' represents another innovative side to the Mindtech sound.

We are thrilled to release the debut EP by the mysterious and mystifying Glasgow-based dub-pop duo LAPS (Ladies As Pimps). Lady Two Collars (Golden Teacher) and Sue Zuki (Organs of Love) wowed us with their exciting mix of vocals, acid, dub and hip hop. Using out-there dub recording techniques and instrumentation fused with a tasty pop sensibility, they make an original and experimental blend of underground dance memes. There is an incredible breadth of sounds over the seven-track record, making it an excellent choice for any dancefloor. The EP also features guest collaborations with some of Glasgow's best musicians, including Golden Teacher, Sinead Young, Duncan Young, and an excellent remix by Green Door Studio.

introduction really but for history's sake, he has been releasing productions with long time friend and associate Kevin Saunderson on their Reese & Santonio project with
noumerous releases on KMS, as well as Chez Damier amongst a plethora of productions dating back to 1987! We cannot even describe how honoured we feel to
have a true Detroit legend doing the remix work for us! Santonio has notched up the mood of the original song and has come up with a classy techy mix keeping the
energy high all around. Zipping up your boots We 're going back to the roots!

Museum of Love is the musical project of Pat Mahoney (founding member of LCD Soundsystem) and Dennis McNany (Jee Day). They have confirmed that their debut album, also entitled 'Museum of Love', will be released on October 13th via DFA.

Longtime friends in New York, McNany and Mahoney found a similar sensibility and a shared vocabulary for interpreting surroundings, something that began with their remix of Battles' 'My Machines feat. Gary Numan' and extended into their creation of a full length record together.

Naming their duo in ode to Daniel Johnston's song of the same named, Mahoney divulges, 'I had always loved the song, and had been thinking of what such an edifice would contain when we were trying to name the project.' McNany continues, 'Pat's a sculptor, I'm a painter, we make music and museums are sacred spaces and love is an elusive thing.'

McNany did most of the songwriting as well as production and instrumentation, while Mahoney is on vocals and of course, drums, but Museum of Love was an entirely collaborative process as the two edited and arranged tracks in the studio. Mahoney says the process of collaboration was energizing, while McNany simply explains, 'making the record was pure pleasure. Waiting for it to come out has been the hardest thing.'

Austrian musician and producer Dorian Concept presents his singular musical vision in its most widescreen form to date via Ninja Tune. His second album, 'Joined Ends', is the biggest, boldest work of his career and a sheer, technicolour audible joy.

Nearing its first birthday, Other People is celebrating the only way it knows how: Work. The label has put out new material every Sunday since it launched with last year's Trust compilation, and the culminating Work comp doesn't break that streak-consisting almost entirely of new material from Other People's artist roster, and a few remixes from some special guests. Work is not, however, an uncooked mash of music. It's sequencing is deliberate and its selection purposefully not encompassing. In fact, Work is more an album than anything else. Kicking off the affair is Soul Keita, whose roots run back to the days of Nicolas Jaar's first label, Clown & Sunset. Dave Harrington follows with a cover of the Nick Drake song 'Things Behind The Sun' with the singer Tamara. His amorphous chords flow right into the tight groove of VISUALS' 'A Pixel', produced by Nico and featuring some guitar by Dave. Darkside also pay their dues with two unreleased tracks from their Psychic sessions-'What They Say' and 'Gone Too Soon'. Putting a nail in the coffin, German pyro-techno duo Ancient Astronaut do battle with a troupe of remixers. The first comes in snarling at the hands of Powell. The second builds gently with the subtle touch of Jenilek. And last comes a deadly dub mix by Francis Harris and Gabriel Hedrick. Work paid off.

* Amoss step into lively territories with their 2014 return to Horizons Music. This single sees a VIP rework of their 2013 collaboration with MCJC, Bleed It, originally featured on the Dreamthief 4 LP. This rework brings a complete change in groove and mood to the table, incorporating a more syncopated beat with a much deeper bass presence. * Calokan is a throwback to the duo's early Horizons Music releases, but with an added twist. The dramatic and textural intro paired with an array of odd field recordings makes for an intense atmosphere whilst maintaining a heavy underlying sub laden roll. Those that are familiar with Amoss will know all too well that the second drop always has something special in store, in this case a straight, two step beat smashes through the breakdown, adding a huge switch up to the overall energy of this track.

Function and Vatican Shadow have combined forces on 'Games Have Rules' for Hospital Productions, simultaneously stripping back each producer's more prevalent production elements - the dancefloor-focused techno structures of Function; the experimental cassette-roots of Vatican Shadow - to create an album of dynamic electronic ambient music, equal parts rhythmic and atmospheric.

As befitting what began life as an 'emotional acid' album best suited for an after-hours home listening experience, Games Have Rules was created in the early hours at New York's Hospital Productions and Berlin's Inanimate Objects studios, helping imbue the record with a sense of night turning into day, and the shifting contrasts of dark and light the music evokes.

Although not created as the result of improvisation the album retains an effortless, free-flowing structure, while simultaneously introducing the traditional techno drum kit over the course of the record, deconstructing the ever-changing, looming presence of New York City's skyline.

Ambient in the most traditional sense, Games Have Rules omits the top-heavy reverb saturation of so many modern releases and builds from the ground up with an arsenal hi-fi and lo-fi production techniques/equipment with a cinematic sequence over the arc of the record. But whereas New York City has so often been depicted in film as a prison, Games Have Rules is an embracement of the city's endless possibilities: the LP's gatefold black and white image of The Empire State Building lit up at night from the inside; the ongoing stories of rise and decline lived out at it's base.

The debut album arrives with all the aplomb you would expect from the Dutch producer. The project concerns itself with all types of human soul- from introspection to confidence to doubt. If there was word you could put to it- it would be honesty. It's certainly a refreshing outlook in this 'fast-food' landscape of modern music that surrounds us.

Steo may well be one of the best singers we have in the game right now. His falsetto glides over rugged plains on My Tearz. His range is wide and the level of soul he brings to a track is unmatched. The beat is a slight departure for Lenzman in that beauty is put on the shelf and grimy is the order of the day with midrange bass and stepping drums working out against Steo's vocals.

Martyna has worked on music with Lenzman and Goldie previously to great results and this track is no different. 'Paper faces' is the seductive side of the album, It's slightly more held back in its approach but just as confident in its execution. Martyna Baker graces the song with her unmistakeable range, showing great understanding of the nature of the piece.

'Islands' is the second album and live project from Worldwide Award-winning producers LV, and Benin City vocalist Josh Idehen, three years on from their critically acclaimed debut collaboration 'Routes'. Where the 'Routes' album saw Josh's voice used in fragments to examine themes of life in modern London, 'Islands' sees LV move Idehen's lyrics and vocals front and centre. 'More so than on 'Routes', Josh is creating little worlds and telling stories with this project,' explains Wil LV. 'We tried to write music around him, with highs and lows; trying to make it coherent... but not too coherent.' British, Nigerian; rapper, poet; comedian, depressive; lover, fighter; energizer, observer; narrator, subject: being Josh Idehen is a world of contradictions. 'Everything that was coming up through 'Islands' does relate to a part of me,' he explains. 'That feeling of being an outsider, being isolated and this kind of lonely story teller. And not in a kind of 'I'm cool, I'm different', but just an outcast, always on the outside looking in.' Born in London to Nigerian parents, he returned to Nigeria at four when his father started the country's first video rental store. 'All I did was watch TV. So I had this weird kind of displacement, because all my frames of reference were English or American. I would go to a school and no-one would know what I was talking about when I would mention Knight Rider.' With unlimited VHS tapes to hand, perhaps it was inevitable that Josh would become a story-teller. Indeed, the Islands of this project's title could represent the disparate themes between which Idehen's lyrics hop. On 'Imminent', overheard whispers on an East London balcony tell the tale of an unforeseen demise, while on 'Waiting For the Night', Josh drew on honest reflections of his experiences after he returned from Nigeria. 'Obsessed' is about an unhealthy, social-media enabled reaction to being put in the post-coital friend-zone. 'I tend to be a bit full on...' says Josh. 'I think it was because when I was in Nigeria, I lived in a very Catholic house until I was twenty, so you can imagine me coming to London...' Murder, desperate loneliness, obsessions and sexually-unfulfilling nights out: on paper you'd be forgiven for thinking that Islands is a thoroughly morbid affair. 'Some of Josh's more poignant moments happen when the music pares back and his performance becomes the focus,' explain LV. Between Josh's observational eye and LV's considered yet dance-floor moving production style, with its funky hardware synth jams and live drums, delightful aesthetic contradictions abound on Islands. 'Of course we always make one track at a time, but once you start to get a collection of tracks you start to see a bigger picture...'adds Wil LV. 'There's a fair bit of improv when we're recording, but when it comes to putting tracks together, we're choosing to use certain things we've come up with over others because they hang together well thematically.' Lead single 'Imminent' has received huge support across BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, and upon supplying the parts of the tune for a remix competition, LV were overwhelmed with over 120+ remixes. Of the album as a whole, the title track 'Island' is perhaps the most unexpected, and took some strength to find. Josh had been working on different versions of a story, until he had a moment of clarity. 'I literally just thought, 'you know what I am just going to write what I feel is the funniest, darkest story that I would be happy to read,' so that I felt comfortable with myself and not give a fuck about what anybody else thought.

Keysound Recordings are proud to present an EP of sweeping, synth-lead grandeur by Moleskin. Last seen on Keysound closing out the mission-statement compilation 'This is how we roll,' his subsequent own release on Goon Club Allstars has raised his profile. 'This EP is a small part of a larger (incomplete) body of work,' explains Moleskin 'written between '11 and '14, originally conceived as a film score for a film I had put together in my head. Two of the tracks were written in Leeds, one in London and all three were written in winter.' 'Illusion and fantasy are themes that pop up all the way through the tracks from this era. At the time I'd just dropped out of university, and after a period of inactivity, I spent my weekends working at a bar and during the week I was mostly in my room making/listening to music, often obsessively." 'I wasn't going out as much, or really hearing what I wanted when I was in clubs, neither was I DJing particularly often so I felt pretty disconnected with the club. All this toted up, made the setting for these tracks to exist in my room and head.' 'Slow dancing with Ms Haversham to Moments in Love in Satis House,' was the track that first caught Keysound Recording's attention, when a pre-'Cold Mission' Logos finished a Fabric takeover set with it, spreading a warm, loving glow over an otherwise dark dancefloor. As loved ones were reached out-for and held, a new talent had truly announced himself.

Following on from this year's Enma, shadowy producer Nomine's latest 12 for Tempa gathers three more of his hypnotic sound system tracks, brimming with fragmentary melodies and subliminal detail, honed for immersion on the dancefloor. Drawing upon his love of dubstep, dub and experimental music, Nomine's tracks carve out vast spaces for mind and body to wander through.

Lead track 'Nomine's Chant' is his most meditative transmission to date; its vocal mantra drifts gracefully through open space, coasting through a landscape pockmarked with sub-bass pulses and clouds of reverb.

The bamboo flutes of peak-time roller 'Ninjah' echo eerily outwards into the void. These brief hints of calm heighten the tension, before earthquake rumbles of percussion and warping bass explode into life, dragging the floor along with them.

The EP is rounded out with 'Syncopator', a deftly swung club track that finds Nomine dropping the pace to find an atmospheric mid-point between two-step and techno. Opening up that extra space within the groove paradoxically ups the energy, making for one of his sleekest and most compulsive tracks to date.

Puzzle Muteson is the alter ego of an enigmatic songwriter from the Isle of Wight, rendering his music in a tremulous tenor over a finely spun web of fingerpicked guitar.

Born in London, the southern English island provided unexpected shelter for the shuddering transformation into one-man band Puzzle Muteson. His grade-school music teacher was first to recognise his unrivalled vibrato, and a little while later a parade of chance and coincidence led him to inhabit Puzzle Muteson, and start shaping a body of songs.
Theatrics picks up where Puzzle Muteson's debut, En Garde (2011, Bedroom Community), left off; the eleven tracks telling an intriguing story with every minute that passes; his talent for heartwrenching melodies and melancholic lyrics shining through like never before.

Ghost Notes is the third album from Nottingham-based musician Dan Layton, aka Apalusa. Whereas Apalusa's previous release, Obadiah, was a dense, murky affair, 'Ghost Notes' is an altogether different animal built from layers of guitar drone, granular synthesis, field recordings and manipulated vocals. Layton then stripped back all extraneous material before painstakingly assembling what remained to create this tightly focussed and microscopically detailed record. Every click, hiss and rumble is meticulously placed to provide a backdrop to an album making Ghost Notes the most accomplished record of Layton's career to date.

The fourth release on the Liminal Sounds label is the 'Physical' EP by Berlin-based DJ and producer She's Drunk. The record is his first on the label, following two EPs on Leonizer Records. The EP has been covered by sites such as Abeano, Boiler Room, Dazed, Mixmag and The Astral Plane and has received airplay on BBC Radio 1 (B.Traits) and NTS (Last Japan).

Carmen Villain got great reviews for her debut full-length album Sleeper that was released on Smalltown Supersound in April. Dr Z caught a bug for dubbing techniques working on his Black Acre album "Grupo Zygote".
He started messing around with beats he'd made, creating dub versions of them. This is the first example. Smack Dub is engineered to knock you out, DXM Dub takes you on a strange journey. This is dropping on a limited (100 copies only) hand stamped, dinked 45 in a spray stencilled sleeve.

Following the intense chromatography of the well-received E.m.m.a. longplayer, Keysound Recordings returns to the shadows with the label's first full EP from newcomer Etch. While recent releases from Beneath, Visionist, Wen and Logos have brought a fresh and edgy new approach in the emerging 130bpm space, 21-year-old Etch arrives at a similar location from an original angle. If Beneath brought 2004 halfstep dubstep's dark underbelly to UK funky's rhythmic pulse and Wen, Visionist and Logos twisted grime from darker, more abstracted vantage points, then Etch brings a jungle flavour to the dance. Not exclusively of course: his collaboration 'Sounds' with Wen-mentor J-One sits somewhere between 2step garage and Mala's more meditative moments. First featured in a mix by Keysound family Grievous Angel, the haunting refrain 'when we hear sounds we are not the same, we are.... changed' lingers; its cadence adding devastating nuance for anyone who's life has ever been irrevocably altered by intense musical revelation. Lead cut 'Hybrid' runs call-and-response stabs echoes early rave without ever scenting of fromage. Its brutal punches have proved massive in clubs, with Dusk + Blackdown road testing it at Fabric, in Berlin, on Rinse FM and their own homegrown Keysound Sessions night in London to mention but a few. Turns out his jump up contribution to Keysound Allstars 2, 'Scattah', was indeed a super-sharp warning shot. But returning to the jungle, the EPs other cuts 'Lost Methods' and 'Sphynx' take two different approaches. The latter recontextualises '97 techstep's robotic rigidity into the new 130bpm experimentation zone. Direct, imposing snares punch relentless rivet indentations that are ripe for filling with deft, flickering percussion. Like an intense proxy-memory flood for the 21-year-old Etch, the sample intones with the epic grandeur of a late '80s, early '90s anthem: 'you are the people of chemistry, the people of physics... the people of rhythm.' For lovers of the Metalheadz/No U Turn era of drum & bass, it's like meeting an old friend in an entirely new life. 'Lost Methods' recalls early Photek, with its bleep stabs and looping, unflinching refrain: 'that's what I'm talking about ... old school methods.' In a world of house, house and more anodyne house, sometimes you have to back to go forward: Etch has uncovered some old school methods and is alchemist enough to deploy them

It's hard to know where to start with JT The Goon. At Oil Gang we pride ourselves on trying to retain a bit of grit and guile in our releases, and finding producers who have something genuine about them and their music. After releasing the Coolie Joyride EP last year it was difficult to find something that was worthy of coming next- how do you follow up finding and releasing a long-lost classic like that

JT The Goon has a chequered history as a producer. Though we didn't know him until early last year, he's someone who's always been a part of grime, working and engineering in the background. Once a part of the legendary Slew Dem camp (Waifer, Spooky, Top Dollah), he'd produced and engineering beats we'd known for years without any recognition; unsung pirate radio and DVD freestyle classics, lost and unacknowledged. After striking out on his own a few years ago, we were left with the somewhat daunting task of trying to get an EP out of literally hundreds of beats, album's worth after album's worth- a decade's work.

After putting some his beats to the test at Boxed and creating a couple of minor anthems in the process, we've eventually whittled the EP to what we feel is the best representation of JT's sound; someone who's been shaping the scene from the inside out for years with no credit or recognition.

Hallende, geflüsterte Vocals runden die dramatische Stimmung dieser Produktion ab. Auch wenn im Dunkeln bleibt, wer hinter Birds Two Cage steckt - mit 'Gase' legt das Outfit einen kurzen, aber wohl geformten Ambient-Track vor. Der Track eröffnet Normans Mix und auch für sich allein weiß er zu verzücken. Auf der B-Seite präsentiert Patrick Gräser (aka Answer Code Request) mit 'From Foreign Territories' eine kühne Kombination aus seinem ganz eigenen Stil und klassischen Techno-Elementen. Das Resultat ist ein frischer Sound, der wie für den aktuellen Berghain-Dancefloor gemacht ist.
