Alex Ridha—better known to the world as BOYS NOIZE—has been making electronic music and working as a DJ for over half of his life, which is no small feat considering that Ridha is currently only 29 years old. As a DJ, Ridha has established himself as one of the world's preeminent wizards behind the DJ decks, having played some of the world's biggest stages alongside some of the biggest names in dance music. As a recording artist and a producer, Ridha has created his own sound, and pioneered his own brand, amassing a formidable body of work in the process. He has released two albums (2007's Oi Oi Oi and 2009's Power) and countless singles as Boys Noize, as well as doing profoundly influential work as a remixer and a producer for everyone from Depeche Mode, Feist, Daft Punk to David Lynch and Jarvis Cocker. He has also collaborated extensively with Erol Alkan and Mr. Oizo (on a project called Handbraekes).
As for the title of his new record, Ridha explains that this music isn't coming from out of the blue. In fact, it's the opposite. 'I tend to make and produce music only at night,' he says. 'I also generally only perform at night, so this is music that's coming totally out of the black. Also, they say the color black can absorb all other colors, which is a cool way to think about making music. You absorb every other kind of music—every possible sound—and what comes out of you is something new, something out of the black.

Jaki Liebezeit and Ian Tregoning present the debut album by MAGNETIKNORTH - 'evolver' MAGNETIKNORTH is a fusion of live drums, acoustic instruments and electronic sequencing. Drum performances are fed through processors, samplers and sequencers to produce layers of rhythmic patterns that interact with each other. The sounds from other instruments are melted into different textures so that only the harmonic content remains. This is a new project from IAN TREGONING, engineer and producer for artists as diverse as YELLO and FELA KUTI. Now working with JAKI LIEBEZEIT, the legendary drummer from CAN, to add his endless evolving rhythms. Jaki's in a world of his own as he balances technical brilliance with subtle restraint. Recording started in the Summer 2006 in an old jazz studio in the south of Köln. Jaki arrived with a minimal drum kit including customised cymbals, a snare and a huge Gretsch floor-tom from the CAN days. All of Jaki's performances are 'complete takes' with no drop-ins, loops or edits. Other guest musicians include LEE HARRIS from TALK TALK - a long-term fan of Jaki's, to add his explosive percussion. The backing tracks were recorded without key changes. Each song features one key held continuously while other instruments and effects are blended with that key. The idea, similar to drone theory, is to get away from chord progressions common in Western music. Drums (also tuned to the same key) were added last which is another unusual technique. As Jaki says 'they're often overlooked as tuned instruments in their own right'. The finished results are a hypnotic blend of industrial, classical, Krautrock and Detroit electronica. Like listening to a 'raga in an earthquake'. Live dates in London are planned for later in the year.

S-Type, aka Bobby Perman, is 25 years old, hails from Edinburgh and now resides at the epicenter of Glasgow's hallowed scene of electronic music that spawned careers for many of his friends and collaborators. As early as 2005 he was hanging-out, pooling-songs with Hud Mo, Mike Slott & The Blessings, fishing beats to rappers far overseas. But a pipedream by high teenagers has become a reality with a host of major label interest for S-Type production on 2013 rap projects (full details to be announced a$ap).

Raised in a family of jazz and rock musicians (most notably his elder brother Tommy leads experimental art-rock band FOUND), Bobby is a deft drummer and pianist who turned to the MPC2000 early; only to rise up the ranks of the Louis Den & Behind Closed Doors Beat-Battles. In the last few years his MPC lcd has been swapped for the all together wider scope of Logic and ProTools and one of the best new beatmakers has grown into one of the best new writers / arrangers. S-Type has mastered the anthemic top line, it bursts out of this ep, but as well as a lyrical ear his music has scope. At times close, taut and frenetic - screaming out for a Kendrick Lamar / Meek Mill verse - at others its wide, rich and so loud that one can't fathom anyone doing the music justice.

Ever since his fleeting inclusion in Rustie's critically received BBC Radio One Essential Mix, our inbox has not stopped going off about this new name. Girl group The Demures recorded this gem of a record for Brunswick in 1965. Although not commercially successful the recording not only turned out to be a fantastic record but a huge spin on the northern soul scene in the UK. Rarity and demand has driven the price of this coveted rarity well into three figures on a regular basis. But sometimes it’s not always about crazy rarity, just 100% quality – flip it over and that’s what we have right here! Chicago soul vocal group The Lost Generation had their biggest hit with The Sly, Slick and the Wicked, a mellow ballad that hit number 14 R&B and number 30 pop in the summer of 1970. This perfectly executed beat ballad with fantastic psychedelic echoes is perfect in every way – and this new remastered version from the tapes sounds even better than the original.

Deep and rolling downtempo music at it's best. Atmospheric and dark but yet soul touching. Cool synth sounds mixed up with nice drums and percussion edits. The B side is a very refreshing sound which contains elements from all kinds of different genres. Amazing release.

Born 1914, Sonny Boy Williamson I was one of the pioneering first wave of bluesmen to achieve a level of success and national notoriety as a recorded artist. In his all too brief life and career, Williamson popularized harmonica blues and after landing in Chicago in 1934 became one of the key movers and influences on the cities now infamous blues scene.
Both sides here were cut in 1947 and showcase an evolving sound which was to be tragically cut short when Williamson died a year later at the desperately young age of 34. Williamson's influence and popularity always remained as blues and R&B performers through the 50s and 60s continued to reference and cover his work. 'Polly Put Your Kettle On' was in turn rediscovered and became something of a club favourite on the roots music scenes of the 80s and has long since continued to light up the floor as the quintessential early 'Blues Bopper'. The fact that it was issued in '48 on 78rpm only has meant that this classic has never had a proper DJ friendly 45rpm issue - and the same goes for the hep shuffler 'Mellow Chick Swing' ... Until now!

Two middle-eastern themed pieces of wild 50s dance floor exotica here, with Ray Ellis' 'The Sheik' a perennial favourite among instro-freaks with it's big production and uptempo insistent rhythm. What's more, pitch it down and you also have a classic Belgian popcorn spin!

Artificial Intelligence have been pushing the D&B envelope for nearly a decade with a relentless succession of class-A tracks on some of the scene's most respected labels. Reaching a vast drum & bass sized grip from London to Kazakhstan, the stalwarts of the scene team up with an emerging but prolific talent, Command Strange, to turn out the latest single on Metalheadz' premium platinum imprint.

There are only a handful of tracks from every era that really stand the test of time and can truly be regarded as classics. Back in 1995 DJ SS produced two of these tracks in the same year - Lighter and Black. Now fast forward to 2012 and these classics from the Formation Records label boss get a reworking from a two of the scenes' rudest producers.
Kicking things off new skool Jungle don Bladerunner stays true to the original, brining all the elements of the anthemic Lighter bang up to date to the with awesome effect.

a correction is the new album from Fieldhead and continues the dusty, bereft sounds of previous releases - they shook hands for hours (Home Assembly 2009) and riser (Gizeh 2010).
2010 saw Paul Elam depart the UK for Vancouver, Canada and there is no doubt that the vast Northern Candian landscapes have influenced the new Fieldhead material. The familiar tape hiss, scratchy, decaying atmospheres remain in place but with a correction Elam has managed to sculpt a vaster, more expansive palate of sounds. Minimalistic on first listen, a correction is a record which slowly unfurls on multiple listens to reveal subtle melodies and details that don't distract from the overal ambience but in fact set apart Fieldhead's music from many other, safer artists within the genre.
The violin of Elaine Reyolds (The Boats / The Sea) adds a warmth to the sometimes desolate atmospheres and the almost contant pulse that remains throughout the record invites you be lost for the duration and even hints at more minimal techno direction at times.
Previous comparisions of Fieldhead's work have been made to the likes of William Basinski, The Caretaker and Grouper, which in truth are not far from the mark. It's fair to say Elam has already stamped his name in the ambient / drone field with his previous outputs and a correction should further enhance his reputation as someone who can seemlessly marry soundscapes and melody to form an enchanting, almost timeless piece of music.

The wait is finally over people! Indigo is back for On The Edge and the 3 track EP features the highly anticipated recording "Neveah" which has been supported by some of the biggest names in electronic music. This was on Biomes PYC mix that has received much critical acclaim, as well as having over 6000 plays on the Deep Heads Soundcloud. Fans are literally crying out for this record and it's no surprise when you hear the quality pouring out of this fantastic production.

Introducing Joakim from Marseille, after originally producing Techno and going to free party's with mates, he then moved to Mexico where he started going to underground nights and was introduced the the sounds of Sabre, Alix Perez, Calibre, Zero T and alike. From this he quickly switched from producing techno to DNB. He then moved to London to understand this new sound he had discovered a whole lot better and link up with the local people in the scene.Tears and 4th Floor are 2 slices of contemporary drum and bass at its finest, gathering heavy DJ support. Jodey Kendrick was born in York. He lived there until the age of eight, when his parents took over the running of a pub in the South East (UK).

With the sounds of Seba still fond in the memory, Nu Directions returns after a brief haitas. The next release comes in the form of a split 12 from 2 burgeoning production outfits that are causing a stir on the drum & bass scene of present, June Miller and Heavy1.June Miller have impressed recently with solid releases on labels such as Critical, Ram and Commercial Suicide. This release sees no dip in quality in the massive dancefloor smash 'Turning Point'. Heavyweight bass and their trademark snapping beats provide the architecture to a classic June Miller production. The flip sees Tokyo's Heavy1 fresh from his excellent album on Rubik to take control with a minimal 2 step track that builds with electrifying FX and a growling bassline to suit. Both tracks have seen support from some of the scenes biggest tastemakers, with Andy C, Klute, Rockwell and Kasra all spinning regularly in their sets over the last few months.

For all of you that remember, Kromestar was the first ever artist to release on DEEP MEDi with his game changing 'Kalawanji'. After a five year hiatus from the label Kromestar returns with help from Anti Social crew member Jay 5ive.
Kromestar & Jay 5ive have been busy collaborating on their own label 'Bass & Love' over the last year and it was these collaborations passed to Mala by Kromestar & Jay 5ive which brought about the release. This four track EP showcases the diverse spectrum and energy that is created when these two producers clash in the studio. Im Mix dieser CD treffen Klassiker wie Jeff Mills' 'Keeping Of The Kept' auf aktuelle Sounds, wie zum Beispiel Patrick Gräsers 'From Foreign Territories', einer von drei bisher unveröffentlichten Exklusiv-Tracks auf der CD. Rugged/Troubles is a double A that lives up to its name in every way. If we wrote clichéd press releases we'd say the release 'does
what it says on the tin' but GetDarker don't deal in hackneyed, meaningless sayings, we deal in undiluted, speaker-banging platters.
And they don't bang much harder than this pair of purist party-starters.
Troubles follows. In more ways than one. The second these eerie, haunting pads and spacious, slurring beats creep out of your
speakers you know this will rattle cages, ruffle feathers and give anyone within a three mile radius a royal kick up the booty. As with
all Distance dishes, the bass is the main chat up line, but you could argue the real star of the show is the kick drum. Taking a less-is-
more approach, the energy is sprung from the fills as the kick spits out a brief 4/4 before we dive deep into bass hyperspace where
another sublime riff works its simplistic charms amidst the mix, endlessly mutating with hypnotic glee.
Halfstep heavyweightism; Rugged sets the pace with alarming funk and menace. A robust riff and sharp percussion tease the ears as
the bottom end reflects the melody, snarling its way slowly but surely into the mix. A tripped out echo effect breaks the formalities as
we drop into the main musical meal. Mechanical and mischievous, the melody's simple-but-effective Q&A rolls and evolves as new
percussive elements eke their way in before Distance casually strips everything back in preparation for a swift breakdown and a
developed drop. Naturally it's all about the bass; not dissimilar to the same powerful dynamic flavour favoured by neuro D&B
producers, its full body pressure packs enough to punch to cause numerous rewinds.
Two massive underground tracks delivered with respect to the genre's most classic, traditional techniques. In a scene awash with
imitation, this is no mean feat. But in the hands of Distance, a man who's manipulated soaring sawtooths and hammering halfsteps
for nearly an entire decade, we'd expect nothing less.

Prism studied drums under Vance Gordan specialising in Afro Cuban rhythms and the Moeller technique prior to venturing into music production. After becoming more intrigued by the intricate likeness of all societies, cultures and religions, Prism was created with a deeper purpose. Not only to showcase these influences but to convey an awareness that all things no matter how different they may appear in physical form, are all the same. Having an ear for deep jazzy tunes and being hugely influenced by the early Metalheadz era, Prism continues this sound in his selection of music playing vinyl and unreleased dubs from all around the world. Always in tune with the roots of what started both Dubstep and Drum and Bass, Prism's selection rarely strays away from raw, emotional bass music but contains something for everyone which will insure a good time for all who catches one of his sets.

Made in Iceland and GermanyCover images made by Franz GrafLast winter we got snowed in, luckily we were at the studio, so with no food or drinks, we had to take our minds of the fact that we´ll have to spend the time locked in until the snow melted, so we decided to work on new recordings influenced by the situation. The snow is all up over the window, It might be even up over the top of the house, and from time to time we had the feeling that we may have been asleep for a week, for all we know..  We couldn't even tell what day it was, or whether we had slept one night, or two nights, or even longer.  Looking out at the windows was like looking at a detuned TV set, reflecting just flickering green lights from the electronic equipment, sometimes vanishing and re-appearing in the blink of an eye. The only attempt of contact from the outside were by pointing powerful microphones through the masses of snow, trying to monitor any or little activity, whooshing noises, static bursts, buzzing melodies even voices.  As we doctored the tapes of our recordings we seemed to have created weaknesses in space and we developed a total, complete darkness finding ourselves out of this world, traveling without moving, into the flickering green light.

Before the Release of his Debut Album on Ki, Monokle throws in an EP to show us what to expect. The beautiful track - Swan' pretty much describes perfectly what Monokle means when he says that - simple rhythms and catchy beats get him bored quickly'. Being influenced by the music of the British imprint Warp for example, the Sankt Petersburg based artist has pretty much developed his own interpretation of well, what should it be called It's Monokle! He has his very own aesthetic approach to music and has a very fine hand for sublime melodies and atmospheres. On the B Side he teams up with his friend and partner Milinal. - Swan' gets a proper retouch by Daisuke Tanabe, who shares Monokle's deep soundscapes and is just the right member of the Ki family to get his hands on this EP.

It has been a busy last few years for Russell Haswell, with releases popping up in all sorts of places such as iDEAL, No Fun, Warp, Warners and more recently Downwards. Returning to his spiritual home, FACTUAL is Haswell's 5th release for Editions Mego since 2009. Following on from 2011s ACID nO!se Synthesis (a real-time exploration of phase scope image generation: Oscillographics), this new set of tracks takes his use of real-time, one-take, analogue/digital modular synthesis to new levels and extremes.As with most of Haswell's work, it is what it says on the box, so BLACK METAL INSTRUMENTAL INTRO DEMO, is exactly that. Or at least should be. A one-man- band flashback, recalling his personal exposure and experiences at early black metal concerts in UK and Europe!URBAN nO!se and RECORD SHOP DAY, are fine sand-blasts of style-smashing experimental noise we have come to expect and love of Haswell, whereas KILLER SNAKEHEAD and RAVE NIHILATION are further investigations into the extremities of Techno and its logical interplay with Japanese Noise. In addition, Complex waveforms, Chaos oscillators and man eating fish, are all dealt with. Finally, to end the album, SHEFFIELD, is a short salvaged live session recorded by Peter      Rehberg at Channing Hall (a haven of religious liberalism and tolerance), Sheffield, March 24th 2012.
