Clandestine Cultivations are proud to finally usher in our 10th vinyl release on the 10th year of this millennium, with another debut for a pair of artists sure to join the ranks of the many successes we have broken in the past. Goli and Ashburner have been making some pretty serious waves over the past 12 months. First reaching the ears of the masses through their definitive remix of Tempa T's Next Hype, which managed to top the slew of remixes from established producers across the field and received heavy play from Plastician amongst others. They followed this up with their filthed out bootleg of Renegade Master which flew off the shelves ending up in many a DJ's bag. After a host of gigs all over europe and the UK, the duo are keen to show off the side of the sound they really wanted to be pushing all along. These 3 tracks are pretty far removed from the upfront nature of their previous output, with Field Of Vibrations seeing the duo refocus and refine their ample production talents into concentrated bass-weight, an atmospheric concoction that bears a much closer similarity to the seminal dubstep sound of 2006. Backed with Ashburner's steppers special 'Space Skank', and the dark and twisted bass mutations of 'Lurkin', with a digital special containing a more energetic reworking of 'Skank for the filthier floors; this platter is, we feel, a welcome return to the core values of dubstep in a time when everything seems to be racing off in all directions. Big dread bass for your ribcage.

Jamie Woon is a special talent who will carve his blues n' bass infused pop songs into your brain and leave them there forever. You might not have heard of him yet, unless you've been tapped into the eerie, soulful end of dubstep, but it's a name you will be hearing a lot of in the coming 12 months. Written and produced by Woon, Night Air is as dark, sweet and seductive as molasses, an irresistibly understated combination of Jamie's uniquely supple voice, his subtly compulsive beats and a sky full of atmosphere. A melancholic ode to the urgency of the night, it's a future soul vision taken further into orbit with a dancefloor-winning refix by up and coming techno/dubstep crossover don Ramadanman. But you have to go back a few years to find the seeds of his new sound. In 2007 he released his version of traditional standard 'Wayfaring Stranger' with a remix from secretive and ultra selective producer Burial on the flip. It turned people like Gilles Peterson and Mary-Anne Hobbs into full-blown Woon fans. The release also recalibrated his musical mind and inspired him to re-think his approach on music. Woon is now primed to be one of the most exciting artists you're likely to hear all year, a man who is populist but always inventive, a modest and understated 27 year old who's making hugely ambitious music that you'll be filing somewhere, between your favourite Four Tet, Richard Hawley and D'Angelo records. Singer, songwriter and self-taught producer Woon made his name by playing live. He's got hundreds of gigs under his belt, from endless spots in front of the microphone with just his guitar, an effects box and that unmistakable voice, to supporting Amy Winehouse. He's played in a full band with dubstep DJ and producer Reso on drums and he's taken stage at Sonar. He has now made the music that will let him switch between intimate gigs to stages with a bigger reach. The new sound fuses his future pop songs with '80s reverb, ultra-tight beats and acres of bass and they cleverly carry the intimate emotions of his early sound into a whole different room; bigger, badder... heavier. Watch out for his debut album in spring 2011...

October 2010 sees breakthrough artist Judda provide the third installment for Critical's sister label Modulations. This Bournemouth-based producer has already received strong support and radio airplay from Radio 1's Fabio, with releases on Subtitles and CIA - and now, critically, Modulations. True to Kasra's faith in sounds unexplored, 'Pressure Plate' almost transcends space and time armed with its eerie waves of futurism. A clean drum-kit punches itself into a bumpy bassline proudly reminiscent of Ed Rush & Optical's wormhole era. This funky upbeat stepper delivers a relentless growl, drawing it right back down through the underworld. Judda's startlingly bright percussion rests neatly beneath a deeply penetrating rumble suitably inspired by the sounds of nu school heroes, Ulterior Motive - a signature quality Hades himself would be proud of. A newcomer but no stranger to the scene, their joint venture 'Rodan' sounds deceptively simplistic initially - yet its intricacies quickly arise, easily appealing to the energy of the dance. Kalbata is Ariel Tagar, is a bass music pioneer from Tel Aviv. Regardless of genre, his distinct musical approach comes through in everything he does - a deep affection for the lowest of frequencies and a collection of vintage effects and instruments which guarantee his razor sharp beats will always have a warm analogue feel, floating in a pool of endless ripples and echoes. Kalbata spent the naughties in east London and was a part of the city's squat party scene. His first productions fusing tuff electro bass and techno made their way into Dave Clark and DJ Hell's sets. Witnessing first hand the beginnings of grime and dubstep, Kalbata was taken by these new sounds, connecting the dots between his ravey start and his deep involvement with London's reggae sound system culture. The inevitable link quickly found its way to his own productions and soon enough, his studio skills became in demand with a line of big remixes for artists such as Roll Deep, Spank Rock, Fat Freddy's Drop, Jacoozi, Sunship and more. In 2009, Kalbata was the man behind the mysterious 'Ninja We Ninja' white label, championed by the likes of Toddla T, Benga, and N-Type (who included it in his Rinse:09 mix-CD). His recent dub release on Soul Jazz won support from heavyweights such as The Bug, Freq Nasty, RSD, and Sinden. This year has also seen the release of Kalbata's 'Wallabee' on Double Science, a dark garage chant featuring a brilliant remix by Cosmin TRG. His latest outing, for Yellow Machines, finds Kalbata paying true tribute to his hardcore roots, mixing it up with a dub and future garage vibe, and both tracks have been secret weapons in many DJ sets for a while now. 'Artikal Youth' delivers pure dancefloor damage as a garage shuffling beat builds to the drop, unleashing the heaviest dub bassline that will slay the crowd in any rave, and bleeps work their way in and out of the track to set up a future rolling ride. On 'Helem', staggered 2 step killer tech rhythms offer a glimpse of a twisted vision of future garage. Robotic bleeps and hair-raising wood percussions build up to the drop, then a squelchy and dense bassline winds through the tech infused landscape, where elements of old school hip hop can also be heard.

Auxiliary is the new label from ASC. It's goal is the continuation of the Autonomic sound, that has risen to popularity over the last year or so. Asusu is a west-country producer with roots in hip hop, whose style has developed and evolved over time to take in current flavours of garage, dubstep and dub techno. You can immediately hear the 2 step garage influence in the drum lines on this 12'. Asusu perfectly couples ticking, skipping beats with bass thump and looping machine melody to produce two tunes with incredible pace and drive. However, more than simply bolting extra elements on to a garage framwork, Asusu finds a place of fusion where bass weight and techno motifs are as integral to the track's vibe as the flickering elasticted rhythms on which they ride. The label's sixth release is no exception. DVA's remix of Cooly G's 'Dis Boy' turns an already seductive track into a spaced-out dream: in the place of Cooly's stripped down production it's got all the psychedelic electronic subtleties and twists you might expect to hear in a Berlin techno tune, but actually brings her sophisticated vocal melodies more to the fore than the original version. The rhythm's syncopations, meanwhile, move along in lazy leaps as if dancing in lowered gravity. Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990 perform a similar job of total transformation on DVA's own 'Jelly Roll'. They play the original's cheeky, cheery melody backwards, forwards, sideways and upside-down, bouncing it off itself in a hall of audio mirrors and allowing glassy synths to slide between the beats and bass. It's a strange, slightly sinister and intoxicating reworking - one to get lost in. Bonus track '32Da4~ is something else entirely; as you may guess from the title it's in 3 time - a bizarre, slithering dubstep waltz that flows out of the speakers and around itself in unique style. Lesser producers would build whole movements on such an innovative tune, but for DVA it's just another step in a compelling musical evolution.

A side 'Rouge State' brings the tribal funk and a unique cinematic flavour. An emotive blend of depth and hypnotic energy. Subtly evolving but punched packed, the sub-bass lines are unmistakable. Doc Daneeka just got a new pair of shoes. In his infinite wisdom, he decided to release an EP of brand new music to go with his shiny new daps - so here it is! The Television EP is a four-song release that finds the tunesmith continuing work on his strain of post-garage, which includes a collaborative song with one-fourth of production outfit C.R.S.T., fellow Welshman Rodski.

Right from the word go, when Simon 'sHack' Shackleton created Elite Force the moniker became synonymous not only with gilt-edged class but also with the ability to deliver guaranteed club carnage time and time again. Straddling styles and riding roughshod across genre lines, both as a DJ and producer, Elite Force has carved an enviable reputation as an innovator, never staying still creatively long enough to be pigeon holed or trapped in a single scene.

As sHack puts it himself: "I decided to embark on a whole new extension of the re-edit idea looking at creating a number of brand new tracks out of components taken from older tunes... proper mash-ups. Some were born out of simple live jams that evolved into finely tuned studio creations, whilst others were ground-up rebuilds where I was effectively writing new pieces of music using samples from other tracks. There was no fixed way of working and no sacred cows that went un-plundered."

The result of this new approach is Re:Vamped a seamless excursion through Elite Force's unique record bag taking in artists as diverse as Danielle Papini, Hugg & Pepp, Classixx and Bassbin Twins. NIGHT HUNTER is the debut release from FIS-T on new south London UK hybrid label '502 Recordings'. 502 represents new sounds born out of the collision of many modern forms of UK underground music. Taking a focus on the new hybrid sounds of dubstep, grime, house and garage, 502 brings North London house and funky producer FIS-T forward with his underground haunted-house smash Night Hunter. The track has been bubbling on the underground for over a year now with noted support from some of the UK scenes top DJs. After a lengthy break from the electronic music world, Genotype is back with an LP for Exit Records and provides a lesson in stripped back dub influenced music at approximately 170 bpm. Having started his music career in the mid nineties under the legendary alias Just Jungle, with releases on the massively influential labels of that era such as Trouble On Vinyl, Renegade Hardware and Reinforced Records, its no surprise that he's managed to capture the essence of rawness in his recent music akin to the early years of Jungle. Many producers have tried and failed to bring back the old skool sound with an original flavor but Genotype has managed this by resisting the temptation to lash in the tired old classic breaks and instead has drawn for the more organic sounding percussion and drum kits. The dubbed out theme runs throughout the album paying homage to his love for West Indian music which he has been involved in for many years and naturally influences the music he creates. Genotype is a man of few words and prefers to let his music do the talking so check out the album and draw your own conclusions.

Boka Records hit release number 30 and they've delved deep into the Dubstep archives on this one. Innasekt's 'Cluster' has been around on Dubplate for well over a year now with the Dubstep heads still demading it's release, it's finally here! This one packs a punch, ultra deep and heavy basslines with Innasekt's signature technological atmosphere's. Backed with their remix of Sumone's (Planet Mu) track 'Zombie', a voyage into deep and atmospheric drumstep. It's been a while since Innasekt's releases on Rottun Recordings and the rumour is this could be their final release under this name. DJ Support coming from the likes of Scuba, Faib, Bunzer0, Matt-U, Moldy & Truth.

Fans of the Itchy Robot sound will go mad for this release as it has all his trade mark production technics glitchy beats and deep b-lines rule, are you ready to funky is the cry you hear from the intro. Then from the drop the drums take over and with the screeching synth and power bass matched for effect. Esoteric Sound delivers a similar sounding track although it rolls along a bit smoother with a pounding driving b-line, and echoed out One beat vocal hook.

Needs! is the brand new heavyweight album from heavyweight saxman Mast Gustafsson. The studio album comes housed in the customary Dancing Wayang hand silk screened sleeve, this time featuring artwork by Austrian artist Mathias Poschl and with liner notes by Jim O'Rourke.



On Needs! Gustafsson uses the studio setting to produce unexpected and surprising results, pushing his playing into unchartered territories. The LP features Mats' baritone, but also the slide saxophone (a rare antique instrument) as well as a small selection of live power electronics. He combines the acoustic sounds of his saxophones with these amplified sounds, mixing them as overdubs as well as live improvisations.



The raw and muscular approach to blowing that has made Gustaffson the unbound force he has become can be experienced in its naked and most vital form on this LP. From gasping to rasping to tongue slapping, nothing smoothes over the up-close physicality of conjuring sounds from his saxophones. The brass resonates as Gustafsson's lungs whistle with tension and release. While his acoustic playing is rich in dynamics with a sense of punctuation and spaces, some of his electronic concoctions are thick slices of condensed compressed mass. "Sources of Such" manufactures a dense, immovable wall of electronic sound broken only by a deep, gutteral warble of the baritone's lowest registers. On both the opening and closing tracks, Gustafsson uses the electronic devices to follow and echo his acoustic playing with organically playful results that merge and blur the lines between the acoustic and the electric sound sources. This is a record of substance and space shifting in an array of unexpected layers of noises, which interlock and split apart in equal measures.



Mats Gustaffson is a renowned saxophonist from Sweden. Both a composer and tireless improviser of international reputation, he frequently plays with the likes of Sonic Youth, Peter Brotzmann, Otomo Yoshihide and The Ex. He leads his own bands The Thing and Swedish Azz and tours extensively as a solo artist.

Debut from This Heat drummer Charles Hayward, avant-vocalist Viv Corringham and bassist Nick Doyne-Ditmas.

Monsta kicks the EP off with Selassi, as the name suggests dubby vocals and stabs are the order of the day. A wash of sweeping pads are clutched with a tight groove and under pinned by a killer sub that will shake and bake any unexpecting bin.

At the heart of Vertical Ascent is a dream crossing of Basic Channel, Larry Heard and Can, as at home with calypso as it is Stravinsky.

Celsius presents their 11th release and this time its up to Mutt to deliver the goods. The original funkster from Canada presents two brand new fresh soul licks for the musiclovers.

LTM are delighted to present the seventh studio album from cult Factory Records group Section 25, titled Retrofit.
*Formed in Blackpool (UK) by brothers Larry and Vin Cassidy in 1978, the band were initially mentored by Joy Division, and went on to record four albums with Factory Records. The first of these, Always Now, offered Krautrock and psychedelia produced by Martin 'Zero' Hannett.
*Their third, From The Hip, produced in 1984 by Bernard Sumner of New Order, explored techno and electronica, and spawned the oft -sampled club hit Looking >From A Hilltop. Now recognized as a leading genre band, three Section 25 tracks were included in the recent Warners box set Factory Records: Communications 1978-1992, with From The Hip lauded as one of '1000 albums to hear before
you die' by The Guardian newspaper.
*After a decade apart, Section 25 released Part-Primitiv in 2007 and Nature + Degree in 2009, as well as playing a string of powerful live shows across Europe and America. Retrofit was recorded before the untimely death of Larry Cassidy in February 2010, and sees the group revisit 10 key tracks from their estimable back catalogue, remade and remodelled using new technology, and closing with a compelling remix of Looking From A Hilltop by New Order member Stephen Morris. Retrofit also includes an exclusive brand new track, Uberhymn.
*In 2010 Section 25 comprise Vin Cassidy, Beth Cassidy, Stuart Hill and Steve Stringer. Live shows supporting Retrofit will see the group perform From the Hip in its entirety for the first time, as well as newer tracks.

As with most things, the most interesting things happening in the monolith of a genre that is dubstep are happening at the fringes. cinematic second release for the brand new Berlin label One4Ho. Borrowing syncopation concepts from other genres and combining them with eerie vocal samples, One4Ho creates a mixture of dubstep that's almost new genre in itself Using the mournful vocal and drip-drop sample from Ann Peebles' track of the same name, the wobble in 'Can't Stand The Rain' sounds like a massive industrial turbine in some torrential dystopian deluge. Dark, heavy and relentless. This tune has been receiving play from the likes of Falty DL, Starkeyand Clark, who also provides a soul crunching remix that seems to flip the original track's concept of memory, love and loss into a 3 and a half minute masterpiece of dream like emotional manipulation.

Bringing yet more total refreshment is Kasra's Critical movement with what is yet another example of superlative A&R'ing skills. Stray is a name that's surfaced previously on the Critical Sound album and more recently as a bonus remix on Sabre's LP but this is his first solo single release and as you can imagine with fans like Gilles Peterson waiting in the wings, it's most definitely a keeper. 'Locked Up' is a welcome shot in the arm for drum & bass heads and electronic fans alike. Fusing techno and 80's sensibilities over a razorsharp break workout, it's absolutely phenomenal. Balearic, beautiful and thoughtful music that manages to straddle the dance floor/home listening divide with ease with its soothing piano lines, simple lead and rumbling bass. One to sit and watch the sunset to, then get up and dance once the lights go down. Things get darker on the flip with 'Erase'. A life-support bleep rings from the start under cinematic strings and pads with a sparse break until an eerie soundscape dropout creeps us all out. Then back comes that break and a walking bassline as Stray starts to play with our minds dropping in some fierce old-skool edits and a synth line straight out of a horror film to make for an utterly compelling slice of experimental drum & bass. For the 23rd outing on this imprint deadlyp turns to long time producer temper d, who has had a string of releases on his own imprint and thought it's time to spread his wings a bit wider as he comes with 2 different tunes than you would expect from him. Both tracks have been doing damage on the dance floor as this 12 offers something for the tech heads and the jump up crew. 'break it down' is a techy tearout tune that does what it says on the tin, a short intro that gets straight to the point rolls then gives way to destroying bass, and crazy stabs. One to check for sure. 'wanna say' is a gritty styled jump up track . with flowing chords thru out the intro with a whispered vocal ' I know what you wanna say' paired with the crisp beats that take you to the drop. Then all hell is let lose as the gritty b-line and the beats take control clever use of the vocal aid the tracks progress. This tune does serious damage on the floor!!! The first DSM release of the new decade sees them continue to push leftfield, forward thinking drum & bass. 2009 was big year for
Data with releases on Revolution, Horizons, premier dubstep label Tempa aswell as the mighty Metalheadz and for his first release of
2010 he returns to DSM with two tracks that cement his reputation as one of the most exciting and innovative producers in drum &
bass at the moment. 'The Visitor' sees him come with a slightly different style than his previous releases with the stripped back,
stepping intro giving way to skipping high hats that drive the track forward and a monstrous distorted Reese bassline reminiscenbt of
late 90's techstep. For the AA side he teams up with newcomer Kingsin for 'Baggage', and it is perhaps Data at his most
experimental with sharp, staccato, almost off beat drums and haunting synth lines coupled with a his trademark growling bass. Both
sides show a diversity in his production and goes to prove he is not one to stick to any particular style, but rather constantly innovate
and push boundaries with his music.
