New Kanada enters the summer season with a hot three-tracker from Toronto's XI (Orca, Hotflush).
Fusing techno, house and "what-ever that sound is coming out of London" these days, Christian Anderson (aka XI) brings the futuristic party to the shaking subs of the nation.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2011 on such esteemed labels as Ram and even on Goldie's Fabric Live 58 album, Xtrah has been setting speakers ablaze across the land. With his music being dropped by the likes of Kasra, Hype, Friction and Andy C it isn't surprising he's ended up here at camp Critical's Modulations imprint with what's without doubt another major step in the career of the young Londoner.Teaming up with MC Codebreaker for 'Set The Levels', Xtrah brings the lights down low for a creeping piece of hi-fi future funk. Cinematic soundscapes draw us into the intro as the crunching break drives on with Codebreaker's low slung lyrical flows running over the top of deep sub and jerking mid-range flourishes. Expertly executed for another quality slice of Modulations music. As we move on 'Regain Control' aims to take us back into some proper break and bass territory with incredible vibes reminiscent of earlier Bristol beats. A squelching b-line, drifting pads and heavily fat syncopated drums that roll out in fine fashion to the end...that's all you need really. Impressive stuff indeed Mr. Xtrah!

Over the course of the past 15 years John B has become one of the most eclectic, unique and respected artists in electronic music. His ability to stretch the elastic of drum & bass over the past decade has brought him together with an array of figureheads from all corners of the scene from Metalheadz boss Goldie, to legendary global DJ Paul Oakenfold.

The hypnotic bass-line alone will have you hooked from the off

Who better to ask to remix one of the greatest KLUTE tunes of all time: We R The Ones... Yes, Bournemouth's finest. Ulterior Motive. On the flip side Seriously a sick rendition of an already classic Nymfo tour de force. Like being smashed across the face with an aluminium bat, this mix pushes the Nymfo info just a bit further than expected. Im going to go and lie down now.

With the likes of Example, DJ Fresh, Wolfgang Gartner, Laidback Luke and Yasmin on their roster, Ministry of Sound have the biggest line-up of dance artists in the world, but they've never lost their love for the classic one-off dance smash.

Utah Saints vs Drumsound & Bassline Smith's 'What Can You Do For Me' is the soundtrack to kick start 2012. Radio 1's Annie Mac had the world exclusive, with major support coming thick and fast from Zane Lowe, Jaymo & Andy George, as well as a Fearne Cotton daytime spin, Kiss, Capital and beyond. The track recently charted at #1 on the Cool Cuts!

Bristol hub Soul Motive scored a massive coup in enlisting Punch Drunk boss Peverelist to remix "Stableface", one of the standout tracks from Clouds Of Moments, the 2010 debut set from Lithuanian experimental dubstepper Eleven Tigers. That they choose to complement it with two further remixes is tantamount to treating us, with both Dark Sky and Macc on board to further re-contextualise the cracked atmospherics. In the hands of Dark Sky, "Stableface" is twisted into a brooding dark side steppah with subtle hints of jungle pressure pervading the lower reaches, the 50 Weapons trio playfully teasing with the vocal before dropping in a bassline that can only be described as rude. On the flip, Macc showcases his enviable drumming skills with a heavily cinematic roller of a remix dominated by those rumbling, live rhythms.

Now approaching its fifth year of groundbreaking releases, Med School excitedly present 2012's follow-up to the critically acclaimed New Blood series. Bringing together a collection of artists suited to the Med School sound from the as-yet unknown to the underground hero, each track brings another interesting layer to the album.

Having smashed dancefloors with 'Framework', Break returns with a different flavour & reminding people just how versatile he can be, while retaining the excellence he strives for every time.'They're wrong' is pure heaven, with it's funky guitar licks and sublime pads, already touted as one of the tunes of 2012 with heavy rotation from Dj Marky & Ltj Bukem. Once you hear the vocal, you'll know the tune. In keeping with Break's idea to find the very best new skool talent, the flip side 'Cyrax' is a monster track by the much talked about Xtrah! Straight up gnarly bass tones, sick percussion and heavy beats fit perfectly on the Symmetry label and completes another must-have single.

Mute welcomes a brand new era with the birth of their latest electronic associate label, Liberation Technologies. Citing reference from Mute's original and continuing statement of intent, the label exists to give space to and encourage artists to experiment and challenge themselves, anonymously if they choose. The first release on Liberation Technologies is the 'Spring EP' by King Felix, a producer from Ann Arbor, Michigan who has also released music as Laurel Halo. The Spring EP draws from a melee of influences, sharply carving out its own sonic palette. Driving and dramatic, it's an uplifting theme-and-variation exercise on oscillation and forward motion.

Sepalcure follow up last year's critically acclaimed LP on Hotflush Recordings with a new EP featuring remixes from Kevin McPhee and Trevino (a.k.a. Marcus Intalex), alongside one previously released album cut and one original track. 'Eternally Yrs', originally featured on the LP, makes another appearance on side A, followed up by Trevino's (Intalex's moniker for his techno and house projects) upbeat and melodic remix of 'Hold On'. On the flip, Toronto rising star McPhee turns the classic house sounds of 'The One' into a crackly, technodriven subbass tune. Finally, the emotive 'Don't Cry' hits hard with the trademark staccato bass and processed vocals that Seplacure have come to be known for. Since the release of their self-titled full length, Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (Braille) have brought their live act to SXSW, Winter Music Conference, Unsound and have played all across Europe and America.

You might have thought that Diesel and Audio Phreaks had gone a tad quite of late. Well my fellow Dubsteppers, this is what has been on a slow cook in the laboratories at Audio Phreaks HQ. 'The Quest' is easily the best recording I have ever heard from Diesel and the hairs on the back of my neck were jumping with excitement when this was delivered! Diesel's productions have come a LONG way, and with tunes like this, it won't be long until this bright talent is dominating the scene.

Lando Kal (a.k.a. Antaeus Roy), one half of Bay Area electro duo Lazer Sword, follows up Maneuver, his 2011 debut for Hotflush, with two cuts overflowing with the darkness of a long Berlin winter. A major player in both San Francisco and New York's underground club scenes, Lando's love of R&B, dark jungle, Detroit techno and classic house is front and center on these two bass heavy productions. The infectious Rythym Sektion comes on strong, Lando expertly weaving the vocals of the 1991 rave classic hinted at in the title with threatening drums and kinetic percussion. On the flip, Lando's dynamism is on display, as Inquisition's syncopated beats swagger along, insistent and knocking, drawing you into its multi-layered paranoid rhythms. Lando Kal has released on respected labels Numbers, Rush Hour, Sugarcane Recordings, Still Cold, and has remixed the likes of Sepalcure, Hovatron, Salva, Sepalcure and Doc Daneeka. Up ahead, lookout for a single dropping on Leisure System, the notorious Berghain party collective and label.

AMIT has joined forces with EXIT Records for the release of his upcoming EP. The project also sees AMIT reuniting with vocalist RANI who previously featured on several tracks on '9 Times'. This fruitful collaborative relationship is further cemented by 'Stay With Me' and 'You Look Better Dead'.Rani is a London based Vocalist of Irish/Indian descent. She originally started writing and performing her original songs at the age of 16 in local venues near her home town in the West of Ireland. Until her recent collaboration with AMIT, Rani's musical endeavors were more folk oriented with artists such as John Martyn and Bob Dylan proving to be major influences on her song writing. Her interest in electronic music was initiated when exposed to Martyn's early electro acoustic experimentation. She also considers contemporary artists such as Radiohead, Bjork and Sonic Youth to be major sources of inspiration along with the work of Creatives working in other mediums such as film-maker David Lynch and visual artist Marina Abramovic.

After one of the most soulful D&B releases in recent times the sounds of 'Oblique' are about to be kicked into touch by Break, the King Of Tech, as he steps up to Critical to bring two slices of thunderous studio wizardry designed with one thing on the mind, the dance floor. Serious ammo ready to cause serious damage in the right hands, just how we like it! 'Here We Go' is not messing around. Dirty drums and a teasing mid-range kick from the off while rising pads envelope the mix until the drop...then it's heads down, bass-face on and away we roll on the sickest of journeys into the tech-stepping territories of vintage Ed Rush & Optical. This ladies and gents is dynamite drum & bass and what a surprise...it's on Critical again!Flipping over and the goodness continues with 'Soundwaves', a rather more stripped down affair but just as devastating as the last. It's all about the creeping b-line, classic dub vox sample and the stepping break on this one as it carries us all the way through to finish off yet another killer release from the one they call Break. Bad. Boy.

On the final part of the Fokuz 050 series we have someone who could be described as a veteran in the Fokuz camp. Brother brings the quality as expected with a beatifull piece of music called 'Manna'. It's all about the subtle jazzy vibes on this one. Although Brother isn't the artist getting the most exposure, he proves again that he is definitely a force to be reckoned with.
'This Morning' is the highly anticipated release by dynamic duo 'Hybrid Minds' who already had support from some of the biggest names in the scene. Rolling drums, sensuous chords and a groovy bassline! The track also features Canadian producer/vocalist 'Grimm' adding his vocal flavour to this piece of topnotch production.
