In the early eighties Level 42 started out as a jazz-funk fusion band in the United Kingdom, formed by Mark King and the Gould brothers (Phil and Rowland). During
the Brit Funk era, they met up with Mike Lindup and Wally Badarou (who would become a fifth member in all but name) and recorded their first single Love Meeting Love'.
Their follow-up Love Games' cracked the UK Top 40 and had success in Europe. What followed was a string of minor hits with The Sun Goes Down (Living It Up),
Hot Water' but the big breakthrough was with Something About You' in 1985.
The single was Level 42's first American hit, and would do well on both sides of the Ocean. The band carried on delivering hits through their funky, jazzy songs with
finger popping good grooves and infectious rhythms.
During the following years up until today, Level 42 are recording records and continue to tour the world, although in a slightly different line-up.
The Collected double vinyl album contains a selection of their songs from the earlier years of Starchild' up until Tracie' and Take A Look'.
These tracks, specially remastered for vinyl, are exciting, standing the test of time, delivered by a timeless band.

Supreme MPB/bossa-nova vibes here on both tracks from our leading Brazil 45's lady, Claudia.
'Diexa o Morro Cantar' features on Claudia's very first 7', relaeased in 1965 by RGE Brazil.
Claudia's version 'Mas Que Nada' is more of a jazzy, folk-funk take on the Ben classic. A relatively recent discovery made during our last trip to Brazil.
Gritty & raw tight funk breaks, with Hammond organs, electric pianos, exotic instruments, razor sharp guitar lines & nasty thick bass lines. All recorded live to tape with vintage tube studio gear.

ALEM (worldin Amharic) is the 2nd release in a series of collaborations between The Hoodna Orchestra and artist and performers from Ethiopia. The song was written and sung by the singer and poet Demisu Belete, to a tune by Ilan Smilan. It is an intense love song describing one's love as a cure to all pains and woes.
Belete's singing style is heavily influenced by the great singers from the golden age of Ethiopian music, especially Mahmoud Ahmed and Tilahun Gesesse. Belete's deep voice, alongside the dynamic and groovy performance by the Hoodna orchestra, creates a powerful composition that sweeps the listeners away to a different time and place.
The B-side is an Ethio-dub version of the song that features members of ADYABO Ensemble, a group that specializes in traditional Ethiopian music and Folklore.
The song titled ALEM-DUB is an attempt at fusing old and new, tradition and Modernity. The result is a hypnotically groovy track, heavily painted in Bright psychedelic colors.
The single will be released in a 7" vinyl format and will be launched at the Red Sea Jazz Festival Aug. 30th 2017 and in a series of special shows featuring DEMISU BELETE which will come to Israel especially for this occasion.

In 2005, a new zoo opened in Lausanne, Switzerland. Its wild animals have been going bananas in their quest to create a more dancefloor-friendly world. Now released, the zoo residents can be tracked by their heavy funk smells. Follow their scent past retro-psychedelia and turn left after organic garage.
"Released!" is the debut album by Kind & Kinky Zoo. It is a collection of brand new tracks, early singles as well as remixes and features a guest apperance by rapper Afu-Ra.
KLYNE first caught everyone's attention with their critically-acclaimed debut EP 'Paralyzed' on Aesop, as well as their debut remix - a rework of Disclosure's 'Omen' feat. Sam Smith - before signing to Because Music and going on to release their first two singles, 'Don't Stop' & 'Water Flow'. Both tracks hit the #1 spot on Hype Machine whilst garnering support from i-D, PIGEONS & PLANES, THE FADER and NOISEY as well as receiving airplay support from BBC R1, 1Xtra, 6 Music and Beats1 with 'Water Flow' racing to over 6M streams and counting on Spotify. 'mellow electronic pop that's like a long-lost cousin of Jai Paul' - The FADER 'infectious and effortless... groove-laden soulful masterstrokes' - VICE / Noisey 'minimalist vibes, captivating vocals... impeccable melodies' - Pigeons & Planes 'more fire from the young Dutch duo... the boys are off to a strong start' - i-D
Vinyl features tracks 1-6 plus tracks 7-13 via download code.

This record is a collaborative between MarQ Spekt and experimental, proto-new wave musician Gary Wilson (Stones Throw). It's rare that you get the opportunity to work with the actual artist rather than just sampling his records. Gary opened his vaults and provided sample soundscapes. Some of these instrumentals date back to 1973 and may have been heard before. Others may not. The ending result is a pure creative expression and meshes Hip-Hop, Psychedelic, Jazz and Funk. Soak up the vibrations and enjoy! This is the kind of idea that makes you enjoy the fringes of rap more than what's in the spotlight. With that said, Broken Mazes' sounds
weirder on paper than it does in the headphones. Gary Wilson is an awesomely strange dude with some outré music under his belt, but for this project Spekt wisely sticks with the more accessible sides of Wilson's catalog. It's all breezy jazz-funk with some vague psychedelic touches for extra oomph, a wide-open field for Spekt to run his free-flowing bars. The result is relaxed and enjoyable, if at times a bit unfocused - kinda like a good open-ended improve session by a talented jazz band.

180g vinyl. SFDB Records make a triumphant return to the physical realm of vinyl with the debut EP by illustrious lyricist NOMAD. The UK Hip Hop imprint was like a who's who of the scene in the early 2000's, with label force SECONDSON one of the most in demand producers in the country.
So here we are, completely out of the blue, with 'Preludes' by NOMAD. With brothers Daniel and Mark Richardson behind the boards, the beats they've produced are pure SFDB. NOMAD by name, NOMAD by nature, literally. The brothers speak highly of this mysterious MC that used to frequent regular jams back in their hometown of Hull (the capital of culture don't you know). 'We used to see this guy get up at jams and just tear it up, he was incredible, full of one liners and sharp come backs. But this NOMAD kid, no one knew him and even now, I couldn't tell you where he lives. We literally have his email address, we don't even have his number'claims other brother Daniel, 'when we first put the idea to SFDB, the intrigue alone sold the project to them.' 'A real return to the crate digging ethos that I still believe Hip Hop actually should be' says SECONDSON.
Now the clincher, when Daniel and Mark were initially able to tie the NOMAD down, get him into their studio, the demos sent down to SFDB had a reaction that they never expected. 'I know this guy!' SECONDSON came back with, 'I've heard him at jams here in Cardiff and seen him do the same in Birmingham, he absolutely kills it, I never had any idea he was the same NOMAD you guys were referring to.'
5 tunes of flowing, heavy psychedelic Hip Hop is a great way to announce yourself. And the music They came armed with only an MPC, a sole Technics 1200 and a fat flight case full of some of the rarest breaks out there. Proof they know what they're doing. All sampled off vinyl, and with a solitary microphone.

Norman Jay MBE presents his new compilation 'Mister Good Times' via Sunday Best Recordings. 'Mister Good Times' is the latest in Norman Jay's long-running 'Good Times' series which started in 2000.
Norman Jay is undoubtedly one of the finest and highly respected DJs today and yet again pulls from his impressive collection to provide the ultimate soul / funk selection.
Explaining his selection for this new 'Mister Good Times' compilation, Norman Jay MBE says: These are all the sort of tracks that I'd play in the early morning sunshine whilst we were setting up at Notting Hill Carnival. It's stuff that I'd play for myself before the crowds turned up. Just that classic Good Times mix with all the different elements I love: disco, Philly, James Brown, 90s hip-hop, reggae, etc.'
The results prove that whilst the Good Times sound system itself - and its appearances at Notting Hill Carnival, which helped make Norman and Good Times a legend around the globe - may be no more, the spirit of Good Times lives on as it has always done in the music. People who used to come to arrive early doors carnival will know exactly what this is about,' says Norman.

Following the recent release of his album A Kind Revolution', Paul Weller continues to push himself creatively and has recorded a brand new, thought-provoking track entitled Mother Ethiopia', which consists of three parts.
Mother Ethiopia' sees Paul keen to try out new avenues and this release takes a very different sonic direction from the sound of his latest album.
Part 1 enlists the help of modern soul band, Stone Foundation - Paul has been a fan for some time and produced, and appears on their latest album Street Rituals' which was also released earlier this year.
Alongside the collaboration with Stone Foundation, are two alternate versions of Mother Ethiopia', one with Bongo Bob and the other, a vocal version featuring London-based Ethiopian 3-piece Krar Collective with the lead vocals (in Amharic) by Krar's Genet Assefa.

In 1973, EMI Records Nigeria released the 45 rpm disc Fuel for Love' b/w Soundway,' credited to a mysterious band called Wrinkar Experience. The record was a finely-crafted gem of pop-rock and funky soul as had never before been heard coming out of the country's nascent rock scene, and it ended up being the biggest selling Nigerian single up until that point. The success of Wrinkar Experience effectively demonstrated that was a market for homegrown pop and rock, and sent record labels scrambling to sign similar bands, kicking off the Nigerian rock revolution that is still being celebrated and discovered by new generations today. But while Wrinkar Experience launched the movement, the group itself would be short-lived: after another hit single in 1973, the band's frontman Danie Ian split for a solo career. The remaining principal players in the group—Cameroonian musicians Ginger Forcha and Edjo'o Jacques Racine—tried to keep the Wrinkar name going before giving it up and rebranding themselves as Rock Town Express. Rock Town Express's debut LP Funky Makossa was recorded in 1974 for ARC Records, the cutting-edge studio and label established in Lagos by English drum legend Ginger Baker. The album showcased in long format the qualities that had only been hinted at on the Wrinkar Experience singles: bright, confident pop melodies, articulate lyrics, and darkly potent funk-rock. Comb & Razor Sound is proud to present a new, fully-authorized reissue of Funky Makossa, featuring the seven tracks from the original release, plus I Am A Natural Man' and I Don't Want To Know,' from Wrinkar Experience's seldom-heard third and final single.

Brazilian mid tempo boogie double header. We've been playing these two out for the last couple of years and they are firm favourites.
'E Novamente Mas Que Nada' is the opening track from Reseda's 1979 album on Som Livre. An ultra catchy vocal hook, boogie guitars and synths lead into a piano and cuica breakdown and horns to finish. One of the finest in the genre in our
opinion.
'Ginga' is taken from Robson Jorge & Lincoln Olivetti's self-titled
masterpiece, reissued on Mr Bongo. Arguably the most immediate and club friendly track from the album, it always turns heads. Another premium example of Brazilian boogie from the masters of the sound and producers for the likes of Rita Lee, Erasmo Carlos, Don Beto, Marcos Valle, Tim Maia, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Sandra Sa, Painel de Controle and many more.
Coalmine Records is pleased to relaunch 'Land of the Crooks,' the collaborative extended play project from the late Sean Price and Melbourne's go to producer, M-Phazes. The project finds the longtime underground legend lending his distinctive, Brownsville-bred grimy vocals over Phazes' rich tracks full of dramatic pianos, rich bass-lines, swinging horns and hard drums. The A-side includes the main passes, comprised of four original tracks with the addition of the Small Professor Remix for 'Murdah Type Thinkin (feat. Guilty Simpson).' For this special edition rerelease, Coalmine has also added the Divided Souls Ent. & DJ Pain 1 Remix of Land of the Crooks,' which was only previously made available on the label's remix compilation, 'Remineded,' which first dropped back in January of 2015. The B-side includes the instrumental passes of all of the original tracks, as well as the Small Pro Remix, in addition to the Crookapella,' which includes various scratch stems taken from the EP, in addition to various isolated drum sounds, sound effects, and acapella of the Land of the Crooks' single. Additional features on LOTC include Roc Marciano, Billy Danze (of M.O.P.), Maffew Ragazino, Loudmouf Choir and the Dilated Junky, DJ Babu. Vinyl is manufactured on classic black discs, and comes complete with the Andres Guzman designed artwork, inspired by the vintage '80s movie, 'Crocodile Dundee.' Sean Price was Hip-Hop's Gray Hulk, a barbarian with the pen, with the sharpest of wits. A true Brooklyn legend...riP!

Songs of love sung by robots' From the moment this machine is booted BOP begins buzzing with kinetic warmth. This is something characteristic of Swarvy's sound, the LA-by-way-of-Philly musical polymath with a vast catalog including sunsoaked live instrumentals, jazz-infused loops and lo-fi gems. With BOP, he is musical mad scientist, flaunting his technical finesse as he plunges into the realm of abstraction. Swarvy makes his mark in BOP even while grappling with its colder, industrial elements. With broken rhythms and jagged textures, he pieces together tunes of emotive beauty. The result is undeniably playful and delightfully odd, something like songs of love sung by robots. Through its wavy ambience runs a current of aural ephemera - bits of speech samples, bossa riffs, and R&B with opaque origins. BOP's genrebending tracks will take you to ten compelling dimensions, forming an archeology of cyberspace and musical artifacts that'll leave your cold robotic heart melting in the LA sun.

The first record in the NBN series comes from Fitz Ambro$e - a Tokyo-based producer originally from Cape Breton, a remote island in Eastern Canada. With a slew of self-released cult classic albums and mix-CD's, he steps up to make his vinyl debut with Doe Quarterz, a 14 track mini LP rooted in Fitz's love of 80's Soul and Funk mixed with 90s Hip-Hop and R'n'B. Stripped down intricate Hip-Hop beats, heavily layered with vocals, obscure samples and unpredictable drum progressions. Doe Quarterz sees Fitz come with a uniquely modern sound respectful to its roots - melodic head-nodding grooves, busting with his original flavour.

Raphael 'Ray' Munnings is famously known as the band leader and singer of the mighty Bahamian Funk legends The Beginning Of The End, he is also a formidable solo artist in his own right with a clutch of sought after, rare 7" singles throughout the early to late 70's as well as numerous appearances with his band. 'Opportunity Knockin' from 1972 is an early one from Ray, released on TK Disco's Alston imprint, it's often been a rare 45 and doesn't show up very often. 'Opportunity Knockin' is channelling the usual sun-soaked vibes of his later material this single is a sweet one for summertime, breezy horn infused funk with tough drums and that Caribbean vibe. The b-side is also a winner, 'Sleep On, Dream On' is an uptempo slice of wah wah driven Soul with a serious groove and a peace-loving, ecologist theme running through Ray's vocals. Sublime stuff, for real fans of Funk and Soul rarities!
Nab this rare 45 of Caribbean Soul, re-issued here in it's original 45 rpm format with the original Alston label artwork. It's been re-mastered, re-pressed and made available again with the permission of TK Disco / Alston Records, Miami Florida, USA.

Transmitting crucial beats from Burlington, the Vermont-based
producers Es-K and Loupo have crafted a smooth, introspective
long-player for the Cold Busted label titled Symbiosis. Holland-born
Es-K (Essential Knowledge) is known for his monthly Spontaneous Grooves series (where a collection of tracks are created in one sitting) and his vital 2016 album Passages. Fellow VT rhythm-wrangler Loupo is also on the rise, with a recent album on the Melody Soul label named Good Company. This new collaborative release, Symbiosis, is a brilliant meeting-of-the-minds, blending the styles of these two talents over the course of ten tracks. The result is deep and meaningful as well as groovy and 'headz approved,' showcasing the duo's penchant for envelope pushing in terms of atmosphere, melody, and rhythm.
From the opening chords of Aqua' - reminiscent of expansive works from the likes of Lonnie Linston Smith - Symbiosis sets itself apart in the realm of beat-conscious production projects. Sparkling Rhodes piano, a winding jazz bass line, and an overall pensive vibe lead midway into a funky drum part, which almost seems curiously added as an afterthought. The fusion-istic instrumentation and understated, downbeat rhythm flavor continue throughout Symbiosis, shining on cool cuts like Road To', the tough, slow motion stepper Gavel', TwoTone' with its jerky beats and film noir attitude, and CooLit's cosmic quiet storm meditation. Es-K and Loupo are onto something unique and special, and Symbiosis lays out their fruit of their sonic
exploration for all to enjoy.

Irish label Fatty Fatty spreads its wings with their 'International Disco Mafia' EP.
Extending from Dublin out to Drogheda and Galway and onward overseas, the EP provides something peak-time for all tastes.
The lead off track sees label top dog Pablo going off on a solo tip, delivering an end of nighter take on an eternal UK street Soul classic. Chopping together many different mixes to create an epic whole, this one has been road-tested thoroughly, and always brings the house down.
While Pablo was fiddling around endlessly with that one, usual production partner Shoey slithered off with newcomer Kellser to produce a dreamy, stretched out take on a late 70's staple , another guaranteed winner, and possibly the most bliss inducing song ever to run at 130BPM
The international part of the EP comes from Italian edit king Belabouche, who delivers a lovely take on 'Willie and The Hand Jive'.
Last but not least, Galway boy Island Time makes his bow with a straight up, brassy slice of soulful Disco aimed straight at the dancefloor...
After two hip-hop albums (Got To Get Down in 2016 and Impact in 2017), the unpredictable Afro Latin Vintage Orchestra comes back to its fundamentals with a new instrumental album:
MORPHEUS which repositions the band in the spirit of their previous spatial, almost cosmic albums Last Odyssey (2012) and Pulsion (2015), both released on Ubiquity Records and acclaimed by spiritual and fusion jazz lovers, library music fans, as well as rare grooves diggers (ALVO's first 4 vinyl albums now being out of stock).
Each new ALVO new release is a millesimal which evolved and learned from its predecessors.
Masta Conga, who's still leading the herd, has for main purpose to explore the musical space-time, gaining ground on never before revealed tracks, followed by his now faithful team of atypical and
farseeing musicians.
Compared to Miles Davis and his On The Corner by Wax Poetics, the band dives again in this realm of psychedelia and beyond', in particular with the contribution of Indian musicians. Twirling
around violins, superimposed patchy keyboards and effects, just as if their conductor wasn't already sufficiently influenced by Pierre Boulez and others such as Hiroshi Murakami... The result is however more uncluttered and loaded with multiple vibes than its predecessor Pulsion, which already carried the ceremonial characteristics of cult movie soundtracks. Tracks Moksha',
Air' and Morpheus' are the perfect demonstration, and far beyond their names. Simple grooves, lunar, but terribly efficient, emphasized by a mix that puts focus on these fiddly contributions of ethnic instruments, on percussions and horns on a drip of delay, reverbs and other space-echoes.
On the other side, the very rhythmic Descarga Uno', Descarga Dos' and Super Dopamine' show that the Parisian crew hasn't lost its good habit to look around latin, ternary, and syncopated
rhythms, in the ALVO only style! A new millésime, a Grand Cru maybe, but for sure to taste and appreciate in all weathers including space ones.
The reggae rocker, Courtney John unleashes his new album,
Ecosystem, born from a collaboration with the French label Soul
Man Records which also produced the successful album Reggae
Loves Soul!
With this new LP, recorded and mixed between Kingston and Paris, Courtney John has created a lyrical painting of our world, hosted by a classic early reggae sound that will appeal to reggae aficionados and a wider audience of music lovers...
