While the story of Jah Wobble, from post-punk bassist to Tube driver to world music explorer is well documented, the fact he founded his own label, Lago Records, at the age of just 23 years old has oft been overlooked. Lago Records was set up by John "Wobble" Wardle soon after his acrimonious departure from college friend John Lydon's Public Image Ltd band at the end of the recording of the Metal Box sessions. Although still young, Wobble had already experienced a music career most would dream of and was experienced enough and singular in his thinking that while now working with both Island and Virgin Records, he did not want to be constrained by the traditional label / artist format and release schedule. With a mindful of music ideas and working with a group of friends and musicians, Lago allowed Wobble to express his wider musical interests that now forms it's own unique document in time. This release takes a collection of songs from the 6 EPs released on the label between 1981 and 1985 and captures some of his best ever music, covering a wide palette including dub, jazz, spoken word and even some pop sensibilities, all held together by his instantly discernable bass rumble. The driving post-punk-dub of Invaders Of The Heart is clear a link to the PiL years, while the psychedelic nature of Long Long Way and Fading offer long, drug-induced meditations. Nocturnal and East take this further with long-form instrumental experiments, before both Voodoo and the now highly sought after Blowout take in (Balearic) pop touches that the mid-80s were beginning to encapsulate. Packaged with DJs in mind as much as for the "Heads", the Lago Years double pack is a revelation to those who thought they knew the Jah Wobble sound and offers a perfect framing of a unique musical journey.

Representing the massive underground North Carolina Hip-Hop community, Koshface Jackson consists of critically acclaimed rapper KoshFace and visionary producer Jon Jackson. Around this duo, gravitates a formidable combination of local and industry veteran DJs, emcees, street poets, and visual artists. Their first project, "Old Man Strength", delivers KoshFace's intensely powerful lyricism over Jackson's heavy, sci-fi influenced production, to form one of the most original debut records in
modern Hip-Hop music.

Emerging from Amaechi Uzoigwe's Ozone collective (Anti-Pop Consortium, Company Flow, Mike Ladd, Mr Lif, Saul Williams), Sonic Sum has developed a unique formula which brought hip-hop to still unknown areas and level. Straight from the Bronx, the band features 2 Dj's / Producers, Fred Ones and Jun aka Preservation, Eric MO on bass, and the talents of MC / producer Rob Sonic, later Def Jux solo artist and half part of Hail Mary Mallon beside Aesop Rock.

Influenced by Kraftwerk, Public Enemy or Led Zeppelin, Sonic Sum worked out the perfect alchemy between musicality and lyricism, abstraction and retrofuturism.

The visionary talents of multi-instrumentalist Zach Witness have sprouted full life in this world, lending his sonic touch to the bulk of Erykah Badu's latest album, But You Caint Use My Phone (Motown Records). This project was brought to life with Erykah Badu at the Badudio and World Witness Studios in Zach Witness' hometown, Dallas, Texas. This project put him on a unique trajectory, harnessing his intricately designed fusion
productions into the periphery of an entirely new audience around the world. His forthcoming debut EP, Electric Revival: Rise of an Outkast Nation, is the first project to find the light of day after this expansion phase, initially created as a birthday gift to Zach Witness' friend and collaborator, André 3000.
The catalyst behind the creation of Electric Revival has a very specific initiation point. During the recordings for But You Caint Use My Phone, Erykah Badu called on André 3000 for collaborative assistance. This would result in the album's last track, Hello,' created at the home studio Zach Witness has lived in his whole life. This moment in time compelled Zach Witness to create an offering for André 3000, and this was in the
form of an entire body of music.

Emerging through pristine and crystal clear sound, Digid's 'Rainbow Dub' kicks off the record in a colourful exhibition of livid chord stabs and melodies, minimal percussion tastefully appended. As low frequency oscillations set the air in motion, listeners find themselves in a true-to-the-roots modern dub extravaganza, skanking: mandatory. As is customary 'Come Dung' allures listeners as the expertly crafted fusion of version and original business that is is, hurling another massive rhythm, accompanied by a lively arrangement, that does the pioneers of the old days justice.

Coming together for the flip-side, Digid & Dubbing Sun crafted a roots earthquake of tremendous proportions. 'Dread Come Again' has come to conquer keen sound systems all over as anthemic brass stabs echo along the dub-infused soundscape and a monumental bassline hauls both its weight and groove to every last fibre of your body. Last but in no conceivable way least, the recent Deep Medi and Tempa signee Egoless turns 'Dread Come
Again' on its head - stripping the music down to its warbly core of rhythm and bass, drenched and covered in shifting spaces and creative usage of his varied palette of analogue effects - a mind-bending version, worthy of the anthemic original.

Soulful dancehall apartheid anthem

Far from a mere agreement where everyone would stay on their assets in a pact of non-aggression, the two MCs have pooled their respective territories to constitute a Hip Hop kingdom that they would govern together. Showing no mercy to the weak. A dark kingdom, erected from rubble, an arid production clashed with unstructured loops, some of which, though already used, are like reborn from their ashes in a climate of dull violence. Jazz, soul, classical, gospel, lyrical grandeur, in an atmosphere of conquest or on a minimalist piano coming straight out of a thriller, the pair of rhyme makers compete with any instrument, Finale temperating by a laid and reflective flow the fiery fangs Fel sinks on every bar. This kingdom, Fel & Finale, will have built it alone, Fel Sweetenberg taking charge of all the beats delivered to the duo's screened pages in ink, the door ajar only to let Dj Djaz introduce his turntable's tonearm to scarify the groove with his unique cuts. Balancing the forces, bringing their ambition beyond the ill famed streets that have already crowned them, Finale & Fel Sweetenberg raise the matt colors of a demanding rap, the radiance of their banner now beyond the limits of a Detroit-Camden axis. Two kings, two crowns. A reign: that of hip hop.

Harry Miller aka Glow In The Dark is neither to be found on any social media channel nor can you google anything about him, let alone does he maintain a website. The man hides completely behind his music and quite obviously in his studio. After his debut in February earlier this year, now already a few months later, his second album drops, Into Existence.'
Like his first album Future Bliss' (SK336LP) the 8-track LP shines in a stylistic richness encompassing musical landmarks like Nu Funk, Chill wave or Leftfield electro pop. But still the eight songs, played in the right order, result in a coherent overall picture. Apparently Miller's studio must be quite lugubrious. Or should one understand the dedication on the back of the cover ( Dedicated to all the lovers that exist in the dark') even as reflection of his emotional perception Listening to the music you tend for the latter. Hideaway' und Sultry Creatures' both base on a vocoder voice which at the same time sounds enraptured and also entranced. On The Key', though, you hear Miller's voice after all (almost) unalienated. got HYPE' is deceleration medicine in a dangerous dose. As well as Arise', which seems not to originate from this world. By now, Glow In The Dark lives probably in his very own universe and that's the reason why you can't find out anything about him at all. Only too well did he send us this postcard in form of Into Existence', this in every moment very impressive, very intimate album. Thanks.

It's true, Jay's wordplay and legendary pith don't sound dated when they're peppered on top of his personal failings and potent ruminations on black financial liberation. He surveys ideas on wealth and success with a confidence that makes even his most clumsy boasts about not going ham on the 'Gram seem sophisticated. Rap's biggest winner coolly sustains his biggest losses. Great album, must have, includes rare bonus tracks!

Same Speed Sambas are back to celebrate the sound of the summer in 2017 in their very own unique way. Following on from last year's now hugely sought after debut, they have dug even deeper, searching out for more obscure uses of Brasilian rhythms and coming up with two dance floor delights - one from Denmark and another from right here in the UK - giving them once again, that unique Same Speed re-touch.

Samba Operator takes a rare live recording of one of the UK's finest soul acts of the 80s' biggest hits and re-works it into a mostrous tropical club anthem, while Numero Dois goes down the Samba-Not-Samba route taking a Danish 70s girl band and giving them some very warm disco treatment. The result is something very contemporary sounding that'll fire up the dance every time.

The A-side features a collaboration between Bosq and vocalist Megan Doherty from Social Lovers which has already garnered a "tune of the month" feature and a 10/10 rating from Mixmag. Mark Usher's funk-laden rhythm guitar attack punctuates the song while Megan's silky smooth vocal delivery glide on top of the Bosq-crafted groove with an understated cool and sexiness that permeate the entire track.

The featured vocalist on the flip of this double A-side disco burner is none other than soul-highness herself Nicole Willis, who was featured on Bosq's previous single "Bad For Me".
