The Aggrovators were one of Jamaica's finest session bands put together by the hit make from J amaica Bunny Striker Lee.
The group would produce some of the hardest rhythms cut at the legendary Channel 1 studio.
These tracks would provide the backbone to songs that were usually voiced over at King Tubby's own studio.These cuts here represent a selection of some of those fine rhythms selected together for the first time.
The Aggrovators were a group of Reggae musicians that usually featured Carlton'Santa'Davis on drums playing alongside Robbie Shakespeare on bass with other musicians addedlike Earl'Chinna'Smith on guitar and Tommy Mc Cook and Vin Gordon and Lennox Brown added for horn arrangements,Keyboards and organ duties normally fell to Ansel Collins and Bernard'Touter'Harvey.
We have compiled some great tracks recorded by this fantastic group of musicians and focused on those cut on Channel 1 studios to give you a feel of what those times were like.

Blind Faith Records is proud to unveil one of soul/blues music's true hidden gems, Caron 'Sugaray' Rayford. At 6'5,' Sugaray is a vocal giant in every sense, but on stage he moves with pure grace and energy.

His music has even been endorsed by the legendary Brian Wilson, who could hear the star quality in this undiscovered jewel. Somehow, to most people, he has managed to slip through the net, but not any more. Italian soul ambassador Luca Sapio made it his mission to bring Sugaray's music to the forefront and tracked him down to record his latest album, 'The World That We Live In.' It was recorded in Luca's analogue studio in Italy, with racks of vintage gear and a killer house band. What they have so magically created is an album which sounds like an instant classic.

When Sugaray belts out a song, you not only hear it, you feel it. The excitement in the room is palpable when he takes to the stage, his dynamic voice is large just like the man and stands up to comparisons with all-time greats of soul, blues and old-school R&B such as Solomon Burke, Muddy Waters, Otis Redding and Teddy Pendergrass.

Texas-born Sugaray began his musical career at the tender age of seven, singing and playing drums in church, and his gospel influences definitely shine through in his music. The soulful gravel in his voice hints at his first-hand experience with hardship, and a childhood marked by poverty and loss.

With the help of Blind Faith Records, Sugaray is focused on presenting his latest project, 'The World That We Live In,' a collection of ten original songs and his debut soul album, to the world. It carries the gift of universal appeal that towers above tastes and trends, and it's an album destined to become an instant classic.

Since reforming after an almost 20 year hiatus in 1983, and beginning regular touring as a unit in 1989, they have not stopped thrilling audiences in every corner of the globe. Even after 48 years, and various lineup changes as members leave one stage for another, the band continues to perform and record new music in the inimitable Jamaican style, like only they can. The road has been long and hard, and sadly, seen most of the original members pass on. Often asked when will you stop' and how do you keep doing it after all these years', the answer is simple: never - It's the love of the music and the way our fans respond that keep us going Forward! Featuring original alto sax man Lester Ska' Sterling and vocalist Doreen Shaffer, along with the current lineup of outstanding musicians they have chosen to accompany them, the band proudly presents Walk With Me -their long-awaited collection of newly recorded classics and brand new compositions. This new release features some of the last tracks ever recorded by founding member and legendary drummer Lloyd Knibb, who not only perfected the ska beat but paved the way for nearly every single reggae drummer after him. Charlie Ahearn's 1983 film Wild Style holds a place in both music and cinematic history as one of the first examples of a hip-hop film. Since its original release it has been widely praised for its hybrid approach as both a narrative musical and a documentary, and as a time capsule of sorts into the culture of hip-hop during its
infancy in the 1980s. Besides its classic depictions of MCing, turntablism, graffiti, and breakdancing, the film also featured now legendary figures of the genres in acting roles, such as Grandmaster Flash, Fab Five Freddy, Busy Bee Starski, and many more. Wild Style went on to garner an immense cult following, portions of the film itself would be sampled in records by artists like Nas, Beastie Boys, MF Doom, and more, and would even be
exhibited by museums in Chicago and Boston as part of
programs on the art of the 1980s. Beyond the film itself however, Wild Style's soundtrack has gone down in music history as a crucial piece of hip-hop handicraft. During a time where the sampling of records by Queen or Kool & The Gang was commonplace in the hip-hop scene, Ahearn took a different route in soundtracking his film, calling upon seasoned musicians
like Chris Stein of Blondie and R&B session drummer Lenny Ferraro to produce an entirely original set of lyricless groove, which would be sampled into true hip-hop instrumental tracks by turntablist Grand Wizzard Theodore. The mystery and intrigue surrounding the breaks became the stuff of hip-hop legend, and a treasure trove for crate-diggers and vinyl enthusiasts.
In association with premium reissue label Get On Down, world-renowned DJ Kenny Dope, a longtime fan of the breaks that made up Wild Style's soundtrack, re-edited the tracks into full-length cuts in 2014. KayDee now presents the singles individually for the first time ever. Each 7" is a piece of hip-hop history, as some of the most highly regarded and sought-after instrumental beats of all time, from one of the most important music films of all time.

International reggae star Alborosie returns with the dub version of his celebrated "Freedom & Fyah" album from last year titled "Freedom In Dub". The distinctive production of these ten newly recorded dub mixes underscore Alborosie's skill and credibility as a master of dub. All tracks are produced and (mostly) played by Alborosie and recorded at his Shengen studios in Kingston, Jamaica.

In January 1967, a 24-year old Aretha Franklin signed to Atlantic Records and began one of the most legendary runs in music history, releasing five U.S. hit singles in that year alone. Rhino celebrates the 50th anniversary of Franklin's historic signing with an opportunity to hear her classic Atlantic masters like never before.

Vor zehn Jahren veröffentlichte Daptone Records zum ersten Mal diese Zusammenstellung mit Ende der 1960er Jahre nur als Singles erschienenen Songs des New Yorker Duos Bob & Gene. Das von tollen Vokal-Harmonien dominierte Sweet Soul Music-Album, samt titelgebender Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell- Coverversion von "If This World Were Mine", war damals schnell vergriffen und ist seitdem ein gesuchtes Sammlerstück. Jetzt ist es wieder erhältlich, wieder auf Vinyl, jedoch remastert und um zwei nicht auf der Original-Version erschienenen Tracks erweitert. 1967 waren die beiden Teenager Bobby Nunn und Eugene Coplin die Stars des in Buffalo, New York ansässigen und auf lokale Gospel- und Soul-Acts spezialisierten Labels Mo Do Records. Bobby Nunn veröffentlichte später Soloalben auch auf Motown Records und arbeitete mit Rick James und Philip Bailey zusammen.

"Ich hatte schon immer Bock und war jederzeit bereit, Songs von mir zu performen. Lapalux veröffentlicht Ende Juni sein drittes Album, - Ruinism , auf Flying Lotus' Label Brainfeeder. Sein letztes Album, - Lustmore , war z.T. inspiriert vom Konzept der Hypnagogie, dem auch - Wachdenken genannten Bewusstseinszustand, der beim Einschlafen und/oder Erwachen auftreten kann. Auf - Ruinism setzt der britische Produzent nun seine Entdeckungsreise fort und erforscht diesmal den sogar ominöseren Schwebezustand zwischen Leben und Tod. In diesem Bereich, wo sich das Endliche und das Unendliche vermischen, ist Lapalux zu Hause - auf - Ruinism mehr als zuvor. Auf seinem neuen Album benutzt er zum ersten Mal in seiner Karriere ausschließlich Hardware und echte Instrumente, er hat Synthesizer und Drum-Versatzstücke aufgenommen und erneut gesampled, gepitcht, verbogen und miteinander verschmolzen, - until it was ruined , bevor er die völlig entstellten Samples aus dem mittlerweile entstandenen Trümmerhaufen barg und erneut versuchte, diese in etwas Kohärentes zu verwandeln, wie er selbst beschreibt. Following the success of the Brujo Magic (ERC002) and Muslimgauze Re-mixs (ERC013) in highlighting and reappraising the music of SoA, it is fitting to return to the band some 3 years later with a special EP putting two of their best tracks alongside subsequent remixes.First appearing on their debut album, Revenge Of The Mozabites, Acid Rebel has appeared in many forms - celtic folk influenced original, dub and remixes. Here though is a special extended version, bringing all the best elements in to an ultimate version. Fiddle, harmonium, bass and piano all come together via the mixing controls of leader Wadada and the legendary Adrian Sherwood. Fitting then that the On U Sound founder would create a later master class of a remix of his own. Pushing the drums, bass and piano up in the mix to accentuate each parts role, before a breakdown putting the celtic influences through the echo chamber. This is the fundamentals of dub at it's finest by a master of his trade.Joining is possibly one of the band's most twisted dance cuts. Having only appeared on the little known 1981 On U Sound compilation 'Wild Paarty Sounds Volume One', Asian Rebel has long been a secret play for the more discerning DJ. Picked by Trevor Jackson for his excellent recent Science Fiction Dancehall Classics release, here is finally presented on 12' for the first time.
With Wadada and Sherwood at the controls, this is an undeniable classic. Twisted to the extreme, bongo's interplay, bass maxed deep in the mix to distortion, with otherwordly flute all riding skipping off kilter hats to mess with minds and feet. This is concluded with a unique dub retake by Wadada and friends via a new project - The Hyphen Collective. Taking the original further in to the dub chamber this is a smoker's delight and worthy end to our collaboration.

Ralph Kiefer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and producer from South Germany embarks on a stylistically diverse journey into Soul, Jazz, Funk and World Music.Being a highly respected session musician in the jazz as well as the crossover scene, Kiefer made a serious impact in 2011 with one', the first Soul Session album. one' was built on a solid backbeat of Soul, Hip Hop and Funk, while two' now takes a step further into a spiritual and eclectic dimension. uantraversa featuring the voice of Las Vegas based neo-soul queen Georgia Anne Muldrow is the mind- blowing opener of this album, a truly deep and intense rhythmic statement. Quantraversa is a word which you will not find in any dictionary, but that is not the point, says Ralph Kiefer. This album is a journey to the inner self. The recording process was like meditation. I often started with a loop, or an idea for a melody. It evolved from there and I simply let it happen. When I involved the lyricistsand vocalists, my drafts sometimes took a completely different paths and ended in
something unexpected and beautifully new. The Passage' is a prime example of Ralph Kiefer's visionary working style. I mainly work with my mobile studio. Nowadays you can virtually record every instrument in any place you like, you just need a good microphone. Some of my guest vocalists also recorded their part in their own studio.' This way Tokunbo Akinro, the voice of Tok Tok Tok, turned The Passage' into a futuristic, haunting soul tune. Live Your Life', introducing Anaj, works nicely as a kind of theme tune for two'. Here you have a lose groove which is tight at the same time, keeps in control and simultaneously lets it loose. And then there's Wish The Beat To Never Stop'. Ralph Kiefer is especially happy about this track. I am a fan of Omar since his first album on Talkin' Loud, I am very proud that he contributed to my album.' With his unique UK Soul stylings Omar fits perfectly to the brilliantly understated and well informed Soul Session sound. It's the two suites which are central to two'. KalimbaSuite' kicks off with a stripped down piano, percussion and Kalimba session. Then Steely Dan' gives it away in its title, sounds like it will move straight into Do It Again', but then it does not and turns into a funky Soul Session style instrumental jam. Transformation' is the perfect ending for Kalimba Suite', sticking with the Rhodes, bringing in more synthesizers and getting quite cosmic. Liberation Suite' has Anaj coming in again. Got To Go Where To Go' is pure bliss and funky fun. Samba De Alfana' is a spiritual and deep Brazilian, irresistible jazz-house dance floor mover. With a motto like Liberation for the nation' and a vocoder meeting a Caribbean style Funky Nassau' groove you will agree: Open up your mind!' You Are Everything' uses a Horace Silver style piano motif, then adding the sampled voice of philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti: His philosophy is very central to my creative process. In the troubled times we live in I think his message is more relevant than ever. Without self-knowledge there is no basis for peaceful thought and action." Fatma Tazegül closes the album in taking Never Let Me Go' to another level with her soulful gospel voice. Think of the open mindedness and global funk and fusion rhythm in the Seventies, but also of the Acid Jazz movement during the Nineties and you get the picture of what two' is about love, peace, being true to yourself and getting involved.

This time Dusty Donuts takes a stroll to Brooklyn, which keeps on takin' it. Side A No Love In The City' boasts anthemic horns and a pimp strut like a ball player walking through Bed-Stuy. On the flip "Too Much Hustle', NMX teams up with OG Jim Sharp and with a hustle you can't knock. Blessing a smooth flip of the Marcus Miller joint paired up with one of Brooklyn's finest.

Although best known in the UK for his toasting talents as half of the chart-topping duo, Dave & Ansel Collins, Dave Barker is in fact one of the most accomplished singers Jamaica has ever produced. After making his recording debut in 1968, partnering Glen Brown on a series of local hits, Dave launched his solo career under the auspices of the Lee 'Scratch' Perry.

Their subsequent collaborations spawned a number of best-selling singles, culminating in the singer's debut LP, Prisoner Of Love. Released by Trojan Records in 1970, the album marked Barker's arrival as one of its most promising and versatile talents on the reggae scene.
Highlighting his skills as both singer and toaster, the set provided an ideal showcase for Dave's versatility at the mic, while also perfectly illustrating Perry's rugged production style of the period.
