It is with great pleasure that we present our new 7' release, following the success of Strictly Sounds feat. Jah Screechy comes a very special record.
The fourth 7' vinyl on Cubiculo Records features big legends that most might know of, a collective that was brought together by Winward Records called 'Jamaica All Stars'.
Blending Roots and Rocksteady this new release will feature the track 'All Rudies in Jail' on A Side and a piano version on the flip side by the legendary Sparrow Martin.
Some people might be surprised with this release, as Cubiculo Records first established itself as a stricltly digital reggae label, but after the release of Digid feat Junior Dread 'Crucial Stepper' broke the mould, we started to think about the style of the next release. Mystery solved! A pure rootsy tune for your ears that will put you a smile from cheek to cheek.
The Jamaica All Stars were born after the release of the movie 'Portraits Of Jamaican Music', according to its director Pierre Marc Simonin, 'Bringing back these legends on stage was for me the way to honor them.'
More than this, the idea was to create new opportunities for the people to meet them in different ways, especially during workshops. It has been done and well be done again with the joyful enthusiasm of young students that are happy to meet Jamaica stars, Sparrow confirms: 'Just like in the Alpha Boy´s School (of which he is the musical director), we are here to give happiness and teach the little we know.
Jamaica All Stars is composed by Skully Simms, Vin Gordon, Laraque, Bunny Robinson, BB. Bassy, Junior Wilson and Trevor Thomson, Ken G.

Born Don McCarlos,he processes one of reggae's most distinctive voices.

He began his musical career in 1973,when alongside Garth Dennis and Derrick Ducky Simpson he formed one of Reggaes foremost groups Black Uhuru.
He then joined Wailing Souls before going solo under his shorter name Don Carlos

Recently becoming active again, they are best remembered for the sessions they recorded at Kingston, Jamaica in the mid/late 90s with legendary musicians such as Vin Gordon, Deadly Headly and Dizzy Moore. The original releases have been since long deleted, but some are now unearthed thanks to Partial Records.
* This uplifting blazing horns instrumental `King of Kings' is another bonafide classic which was originally released in 1999.
* This is an alternative cut to the one previously released, plus the dub cut `King of Version' has never been heard before until now.

The driving force of The Shaolin Afronuats is Ross McHenry, the ARIA nominated composer, bandleader, producer and bassist based in Adelaide. Alongside co collaborators Lachlan Ridge and Dylan Marshall, It is their opmbined wide ranging musical tastes, impeccable production and instrumental skills that always result in music that is original, thought provoking, unexpected and quite beautiful.

2011's debut album 'Flight Of The Ancients' was a critical and commercial success story. The follow up 'Quest Under Capricorn' further cemented the bands reputation for forging their own very particular sound - and now in 2014 - as the band prepare to tour Japan & Europe (including 2 prestigious shows at The Glastonbury Festival) Freestyle Records is proud to present the expansive & epic Follow The Path.

Follow The Path is a 21 track, double album that expands upon and delves further into the musical genres that inspire and influence the group - rhythmic and pulsating afrobeat, and the avant-garde/spiritual jazz inspired by artists such as Sun Ra and Mulatu Astatke.

One superb example of how this band execute their musical vocabulary is Ojo Abameta, a percussive & frenetic number, built on a bed of amazing percussion and topped off with some deeply sweet ensemble horns, the end result is reminiscent of African hi life sounds which acts as a curtain raiser for this incredible album. The albums title track 'Follow The Path' uses afrobeat as a template, but with strong funk undercurrents, as the insistent beat underpins the beautiful ensemble horns and bubbling analogue synth sounds to dramatic and hypnotic effect.

In contrast, the second volume emphasises The Shaolin Afronauts more experimental and introspective side. As an example, the three part suite Outside Beyond/Three Ways Back is a genuine musical journey that takes the listener through many musical moods and textures...;this is deep, spiritually rooted music that locates the band almost in a genre of their very own - having such an original and individual approach and sound.

Respected black dance music DJ, Jo Wallace, was commissioned to create a bespoke track to accompany this summer's must see exhibition 'Return of the Rudeboy' by its creators, Dean Chalkley and Harris Elliott. In order to deliver the track in a limited vinyl format, Jo had to create a label....thus, Ramrock was born. Paying homage to the glorious heyday of Jamaican rocksteady, Jo tailored the sound to fit the flavour of the exhibition - more Argyle socks than on the rocks. Gathering together the production skills of the legendary Ashley Beedle, the talents of musical supremo Darren Morris and the mighty MC D'Oxman, Jo oversaw the whole project in the studio even lending a hand on backing vocals and percussive teacup. 'Gentleman Rudeboy' is a track that will continue to fill dancehalls for many years to come.... Welcome to the world of Ramrock

The late sixties and early seventies spectacle of Jamaican Deejays taking their live performances out of the dance halls and translating them into hit records, not only marked the beginning of forty years of dance hall driven music on the island but also provided the original inspiration and template for the global dominance of rap and hip hop.
The art of deejay was now rightly recognised and the toasters or talk over artists advanced from introductions and interjections to stringing complete sets of lyrics together and riding the rhythm for the entire length of the song.
Deejays including U Roy, I Roy, Dennis Alcapone, Big Joe ,Little Joe and Prince Jazzbo who built their reputations working live on sound systems,now went one step beyond and moved on to become recording deejays with entire catalogues of hit singles and albums to their credit.
Throughout the seventies a whole host of mic men followed in their wake including Dillinger,Dr.Alimando,Clint Eastwood and Jah Stitch.
Talking records were not new, but 'talk over' records were...the repercussions of this uniquely Jamaican phenomenon would go on to reverberate worldwide...

*Since his debut release in 2008, Phaeleh aka Matt Preston has developed an inimitable style of cinematic electronic music, which floats between the shifting tempos and timbres of dubstep, garage, electronica and house music.
*Phaeleh's last two long play releases on Afterglo records - 'Fallen Light' and 'The Cold In You' - have cemented his position as one of the most exciting new producers to emerge from his current hometown, Bristol. Phaeleh's downbeat and heartfelt sound honours the tradition of Bristolian forefathers Massive Attack, Smith & Mighty and Portishead, with a fresh outlook and penchant for sub sonics.
*This time, he's skirted round the easy option and stepped away from any formulas that seemed too comfortable. It's time to test your bassbins with the biggest and bestest new smashers from soundsystem champions Mungo's Hi Fi. Their third double LP arrives hot on the heels of their massive collaborations with Major Lazer and Prince Fatty and showcases all aspects of soundsystem bizness, from Studio One style live brass to digital bass bangers all beautifully threaded together. As well as the fat, clean productions you would expect, the album hosts vocal talent by the ton. With reggae heavyweights Cornel Campbell and Peter Metro rubbing shoulders with Mungo's regulars Mr Williamz, Soom T, Charlie P, YT, Marina P, Solo Banton and Parly B. As if that was not enough there are spectacular guest appearances from Blackout JA, Speng Bond, Pupajim and Warrior Queen. Elen G's cover artwork shows the soundsystem ship tossed on heavy seas with tentacles threatening to take it under - serious times indeed. Subactive Sound from Strasbourg are back with a deadly EP of epic bass proportions with their second release on Scotch Bonnet. They bring a funky swing to modern dub with perfectly sensed vocals and irresistible rhythm.

The last few years have seen Chicago Footwork rise to international success, and Traxman's debut album - 'The Mind of Traxman' on Planet Mu - played no small part in that. It showcased Cornelius Ferguson's brilliant ability to synthesise the beat digging of classic hip hop with the high-speed abstraction of Footwork's house-derived beat science. the selection of tracks on this second chapter show a slightly different take on Traxman's abilities. Instead of bringing in concepts from other genres, he simply creates a wider variety of Footwork, made with a minimal, reduced palette. Often just one or two samples are selected and diced into brain-blurring cubist puzzles that bear little relation to their original sources, or anything else for that matter. A number of the tracks here show off the high-speed micro-edited possibilities of Footwork, that end up bringing the sound closer to a faster, hands-on, mpc-punched version of micro-house, bringing out a jagged, fitful character that keeps you on your toes. Tracks like 'Time Slip' echo SND, but cut with hip hop breaks and flying snares, while 'Blow Your Whistle (Tha Out Of Here Remixx)' chops up a short vocal and whistle noise to ridiculously energetic effect. Other tracks pull on a techno edge, 'Computer Getto's galloping game of hide and seek with Kraftwerk, 'Bubbles'  electronic arcade game blips, or 'Under Cover Jack's 303 groove, remind one of the house origins of this music, while 'Can Nutin Hold Me Back' has a leg in soul's history, with its detached accapella chopped into twitchy choruses. Later on '15146' cuts up barked numbers over sprightly woodwind while 'Gone and Hit that Shit' reduces words to rhythmic shapes, darting around meaning. 'The Edge of Panic' is an unexpected and incredibly aggressive detour into Footwork x Speed Metal that could be a micro-genre of its own. We catch our breath with 'I Wanna Be High' before the album ends with the gentle bass and chopped jazz drums of 'U Got Me Running (Remixx)'. The mind of Traxman dazzles again. Traxman, a.k.a. Corky Strong, real name Cornelius Ferguson, is a Chicago Footwork veteran whose discography also includes many classic Ghetto House and Juke releases going as far back as the mid '90s with music on labels like the legendary Dance Mania. He's worked as a DJ for over three decades and was a member of the Geto DJz and Ghetto Teknitianz crews alongside two other Footwork scene leaders, DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn. The Jamaican Reggae duo Dave and Ansell Collins hit big time in 1970 when they topped the UK Charts with one of the all time classic reggae singles 'Double Barrel'.
It also became one of the first Reggae hits in the USA.
The distinctive chant of singer Dave Barker calling out the intro to songs letting the listener know what about to hit them is timeless.
He also carries a great soul voice that has added magic to many a great reggae tune.
Dave and Ansell are two talented artists that on their own have added so much to the reggae sounds we know and love.
But together they have made a name that will go down in history as one of the great duo's that came out of Jamaica and onto the world's stage.
