David Mccallum / Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg - The Edge / The Next Episode

The series continues with David McCallum's sublime Jazz classic, 'The Edge', from 1967 produced by David Axelrod. Bit of trivia for you, Mr McCallum was actually an actor before he delved into making music and appeared as a Russian secret agent in the 60's series 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.' Fast forward to 1999 and Dr Dre's Gangsta Rap classic LP '2001' spawned several great singles, none better than 'The Next Episode' featuring Snopp Dogg and of course sampling David McCallum's 'The Edge'.

  • B1: Hit The Deck
  • B2: This One's For Me
  • B3: The Hunted Child
  • B4: What Ya Wanna Do ('Do You Wanna Go Party')
  • B5: Freedom Of Speech

The Iceberg/Freedom of Speech... Just Watch What You Say! is the third studio album by infamous rapper Ice-T, released in 1989. The album has an uncharacteristically gritty sound, featuring some of the darkest musical tracks that Ice-T ever released.

The album was released after Ice-T was encountering censorship problems on tour. The album's cover, featuring a B-boy with a shotgun shoved in his mouth, and two pistols pressed against each side of his head, reflected Ice-T's experiences with the concept of freedom of speech.

This album is arguably the closest hip-hop has come to George Orwell's 1984. Instead of focusing heavily on gangsta rap, Ice-T made First Amendment issues the album's dominant theme. Setting the album's tone is the opener, 'Shut Up, Be Happy,' featuring Dead Kennedy's Jello Biafra. There are a few examples of first-rate gangsta rap here - including 'The Hunted Child' and the chilling 'Peel Their Caps Back' as well as some humoristic raps on 'My Word Is Bond' and 'The Girl Tried to Kill Me'.

Kanttoripoika & Coco Bryce - Space Nuggets

After about a one year hiatus, Myor are back with a semi full length split album by Helsinki's master of the gloomy arts Kanttoripoika and label owner Coco Bryce respectively.
On the aside, Kanttoripoika serves up 5 Skweee infused instrumentals that wouldn't sound out of place scoring an episode of Twin Peaks, albeit in the best of Scandinavian lo fi funk traditions. On the flipside, Coco Bryce utilises a slightly more danceable approach, yet manages to stay well under a hundred bpm, mashing chopped Hindi samples, synthetic drums and an accordion into approximately 13 minutes of downtempo syncopation.

Colatile Tobasco - Do The Columbo
  • A1: Track
  • B1: Instrumental

Don't Bite Records video maker, Volatile Tobasco, brings a surreal homage to the classic hip-hop dance. Forget the musical abomination that was hip house , this is reminiscent of the Biz Dance, Pee Wee Herman and Humpty Dance. Tobasco goes beyond the Steve Martin, Cabbage patch and Wop to name his dance after his TV hero; Columbo. As America cries out for an honest policeman our satire is complete. Unfortunately Columbo is fictional but don't let that stop you from 'furrowing your brow' and 'squinting your eye' whilst possibly turning a suspicious eye to the establishment. This is available on limited 7 inch.

Mr Beatnick's brand new cosmic imprint Mythstery Records proudly presents its debut release! Breakplus is a an old friend and collaborator of Mr Beatnick - the pair released their first hip-hop record "The Time Machine" way back in 2005, under the moniker "Thieves Of Time". "Instant Bull" is Breakplus's celebration of Anatolian Rock history, which marries funky Turkish source material with deft MPC sampling skills. 7 tracks long, it's partly a beat-tape, partly a mini-album - balancing mellow grooves for home listening with a trio of left-side club cuts - from heady psych-rock jams to Turkish disco. The record features Flying Lotus collaborator Ahu Kelesoglu, and comes in a SETI-referencing custom sleeve designed by cult Hyperdub artist Optigram. Limited to 300 copies - one for the old school beat diggers, and fans of oddball disco edits.

aka HD turns up with his first album, 'Grand Delirium'. Between
screeching humour, clever lyrics and driving productions, HD
rap is considered to be technic, clever, stupid, uncommon,
literary ... but above all it's a breath of fresh air.
Supported by a A-list of French kickers : Nekfeu, Hippocampe

Jehst teams up with self-styled cult leader Lee Scott and intergalactic rap-hybrid Strange U on his latest single 'Reel It In'. Not to mention enlisting the assistance of eclectic beat-smith Mo Kolours on the production - to psychedelic effect! Over-indulgence is the order of the day as too much Juice Crew, Public Enema (remember House Party) and Ultramagnetic has left the three emcees with a lyrical hangover, one that can only be cured by the sound of a Transformers electronic heart- beat.

Various - Pomo Presents: Tempo Dreams, Vol. 4

The last couple of years have been huge for Pomo, going from a relatively obscure Canadian producer to releasing his debut EP on HW&W, remixing for the likes of Janet Jackson and Mark Ronson, producing "Am I Wrong" on Anderson Paak's debt album and touring the globe with Disclosure as their opening act. Bastard Jazz has commissioned Pomo to be next in line for the fourth volume of their "Tempo Dreams" compilation series, following on the heels of the hotly contested Soul Clap compiled Vol. 3. As with other Tempo Dreams records, Pomo has curated a slick and well polished album full of exclusive tracks from friends and collaborators such as Lindsay Lowend, Aloka, Exmag, Syre, Daniel Crawford, FVLCRVM and more. Touching on the shimmering nudisco sound, plodding deep electronic vibes, funky instrumental hip-hop, and even a hint of drum'n'bass, Tempo Dreams Vol. 4 takes it's rightful place in the series as one of the most forward thinking compilations showcasing emerging young talent.

Sensational & Kruton - You In The Right Spot Ep

Sonic fissures sizzle the bacon they ain't faking "Blow your zip code". A subterranean world of street wisdom and Cosmo-ghettology. Sensational spits grit over the grit, keep them swaying as they stagger from grey luminous fog coming in off the Atlantic. A cohesive nugget of rolling energy "My presidential Rolex". Kruton whips up jagged shards of rhythm into the air. Elaborate thought processes conveyed through instinctive vocal responses "Cake!". Weapons grade Prana, hooks and bass.

Audio88 & Yassin - Halleluja (2lp+2cd)

Endlich wieder normale Musik.

Genesis is the fifth studio album by American rapper and Leader Of The New School alumnus Busta Rhymes. Released in 2001, the album debuted at number 7 on the Billboard
200 and ultimately sold 1 million copies in the US and was certified platinum. The fourth single from the album, 'Pass the Courvoisier Part II', peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot
100.

On Genesis, the beats seem darker and more synth-oriented, giving it an edge reminiscent of the bass-heavy G-funk sound. 'As I Come Back' is a good example, featuring a sustained keyboard note droning on throughout the chorus with Busta rapping in his raspy style. Busta Rhymes can also make a good dance song, like the hypnotic 'What It Is,' a fractured funk anthem that features robotic female vocals from Kelis and a slow beat consisting of clicks and snaps.

Other guest appearances include P. Diddy's turn on the dramatic 'Pass the Courvoisier,' Mary J. Blidge on 'There's Only One,' and the occasional appearances by the Flipmode Squad, as well as production work from Pete Rock and Dr. Dre, among others.

On The Neptunes Present...Clones (2003), Chad Hugo and Pharell Williams (aka The Neptunes) snare an all-star cast of featured players, and they ably demonstrate how their skills can adapt to any conceivable personality. The album features four singles; 'Frontin'' by Pharrell ft. Jay-Z, 'Light Your Ass On Fire' by Busta Rhymes, 'Hot Damn' by Clipse and 'It Blows My Mind' by Snoop Dogg.

Williams steps out with some help from Jay-Z on 'Frontin',' one of the biggest Neptunes-related singles. The funky 'Light Your Ass on Fire' features Busta Rhymes' more sexually aggressive and explicit come-ons. Amidst whirling sirens, Dirt McGirt's turn, 'Pop Shit,' boasts a comical Looney Tunes-worthy arrangement. 'Popular Thug,' originally a track on Kelis' Wanderland, gets a deserved new look, with Pusha T's role bumped in favor of Nas.

The album debuted at number One on the US Billboard 200
Chart, and ultimately sold over half a million copies in the
US, certifying Gold in the process.

This nine-song EP was recorded in Fall 2015 utilizing a new 24-track supplied by Sach's long-time contemporary Giovanni Marks (aka Subtitle). Live drums, bass & saxophone were woven into 'Fidelity", alongside scratching & percussion by long-time accomplice DJ E-Spinfiniti. Album highlights include special guests Mean Green (on the smoker's anthem 'Wise Buds Being Broken') and Koko on the exuberant "Cha Cha (In The Lounge With Sach)".

Kypski - Wreck Fader

Kypski is also the 4 time National Turntable Champion of the Netherlands and has won the dutch DMC Finals. Apart from being best known for his project C-Mon & Kypski he was part of the turntablism band The WaxWankerz and is currently active in the Matangi String Quartet. Wreck Fader is turntablism taken to the next level, combined with composing, electronics, beats, break beat science. "Wreck Fader represents the best of me, as a beatmaker, producer and scratcher." tells Thomas Elbers also known as Kypski. Wreck Fader is not just the average collection of beats but an album with songs in which verses are not only constructed by singers or rappers but also with scratchin'. The album contains a variety of impressive collaborations (as in co-creating) with the likes of Daedelus (Ninja Tune, Anticon), D-Styles (Low End Theory), K La Boss (EPMD/ Lil Wayne) and last but not least international recording artist Caro Emerald. The release of the album is accompanied by the release of the Wreck Fader (online) video game. It's a 3D roller coaster ride which will have you scratching while you get lost in the world of the Wreck Fader. 'The album is, indeed, some majestic headfuck. Sounds like Mellow Gold era Beck if he was raised on a diet of chip tune and Invisibl Skratch piklz and teleported to 2018.' THUMP USA (Vice) '...highlighting the future of turntablism, which sounds a lot like pure hip-hop colliding with electronic music.' Do Androids Dance Brilliantly-executed electronica that showcases not only Kypski's production skills but also his scratching chops. Whether it's pimp-rolling hip-hop grooves (Headcrack), jittery bassline (Wreck Fader) or deconstructed soul (Armitage Skank), Kypski's meticulous, at times frenetic, production serves as the perfect vehicle for his intricate, melodic scratching which, rather than being the usual arbitrary sonic pyrotechnics, takes us on a journey through the tracks, adding character and soul to each. Starting life as a small New York event aimed at raising awareness for Fela Kuti's musical message, Rich Medina's Jump N Funk party has now been rocking dancefloors across the
globe for over 15 years. Honouring Fela's contribution to music as well as his political and cultural legacy, Medina has made his events a platform to celebrate Afro-Life across the Black
Diaspora. With guests such as Wunmi, the cast
of Fela! On Broadway, Asiko and Antibalas
providing captivating live performances, Jump N
Funk is so much more than a club night. In
creating this compilation to represent the spirit
of his events, Rich Medina has chosen an eclectic
selection of undeniably afro-tinged, unashamedly
life-affirming music. With most tracks either
referencing, sampling or inspired by the great
man, the record also includes material by Fela
himself, as well as son Seun Kuti and long-time
band member Tony Allen the inventor of the
afrobeat set drum syncopation that is equally as
notorious as Fela and his message... The album's
artwork has been lovingly created by Lemi
Ghariokwu, the fabled Nigerian artist who
designed some of Fela's most iconic covers.
From the record's sleeve to the music contained
within, Jump N Funk is a cultural artefact with
one foot in the past, the other in the future. An
echo of Fela's message: a reminder to celebrate,
to empower, to progress.

Soul Jazz Records' new 'Boombox' features some of the many innovative underground first-wave of rap records made in New York in the period 1979-82, all released on small, independent, often family-concern record companies, at a time when hip-hop music still remained under the radar.
This first exuberant wave of innocent, upbeat, 'party on the block' rap records were the first to try and create the sounds heard in community centres, block parties and street jams that initially took place in the Bronx in the mid-1970s. But where Flash, Kool Herc and Bambaataa were back-spinning, mixing and scratching together now classic breakbeat records like The Incredible Bongo Band's 'Apache' or Babe Ruth's 'The Mexican', these first rap records were all made using live bands, often replaying then current disco tunes, whilst MCs rapped over the top, creating a unique sound that later became known derisively as 'old school'.
And while hip-hop started in the Bronx, rap on vinyl began in Harlem where long-time established rhythm and blues producer-owned record companies such as Joe Robinson's Enjoy Records, Paul Winley's Winley Records, Delmar Donnel's Delmar International and Jack 'Fatman' Taylor's Rojac and Tayster were the first off the mark to realise the commercial potential of rap music - releasing early ground-breaking records that all quickly followed in the wake of the first rap record, The Sugarhill Gang's 'Rappers Delight', a million-selling worldwide hit.
This collection celebrates these first old-school rap records, bringing together rare, classic and obscure tracks released in the early days of rap.
Deluxe double CD-pack comes with slipcase, 40-page outsize perfect-bound booklet, extensive notes, exclusive photography and original label artwork. Triple heavyweight vinyl includes full artwork, text and notes as well as free download code.

The Allergies - Rock Rock / Blast Off (feat. Andy Cooper)

Bristol's finest -The Allergies, are back with a phenomenal new double A-side offering with both cuts featuring the instantly recognisable vocal skills of Andy Cooper - one of the brains behind US undergound Hip Hop legends Ugly Duckling.

Rock Rock is the most tongue twisting lyrical showcase you've heard since Blackalicious penned Alphabet Aerobics. Andy Cooper's audacious rap races through an impressive array of language without missing a beat. And speaking of beats - The Allergies are well up to the task of providing the necessary musical foil to accommodate such a vocal with their DJ and production skills bringing all manner of funk to the table.

Golden age Hip Hop is order of the day in the second track- Blast Off. With more smooth vocal skills from Cooper, a bouncing groove and dope turntable cuts and samples taking you back to the early 90's heyday of the genre.

Chuuwee & Trizz - Amerikka's Most Blunted 2 Cd

March 25thwill be an early start to 4/20 with the release of emcee duo, Chuuwee & Trizz's new album, "AmeriKKa's Most Blunted 2". To be released via Below System Records (Masta Ace, JR & PH7, Pearl Gates) this is the long-awaited sequel to the first installment released over two years ago.

Utilizing a cadre of Producers including Ac3, Monibeatz, Saro and Montage the duo musically land somewhere between the adjectives hyphy, chilled-out and jazzy. Guests on the emcee side for the album include comrades, Sahtyre, Tay Hundreds and Mark Battles.

While both emcees may ingest copious amounts of herb, it apparently has little to no effect on their non-stop work ethic. For example Chuuwee, although just hitting the age of 25, already has a discography of over twenty albums and mixtapes to his name. Raised in Sacramento, CA the "South Sac Mack" had the benefit of a home studio as a child as his Mother was studying music production. In his teens Chuuwee (born Dionte Hunter) was already destroying local poetry slams with his rhymes.

The fruit of this constant labor includes U.S. shows alongside such influences as Mistah Fab, Rakim and Rhymefest. He also recently completed a European tour with JR & PH7.

Los Angeles based Trizz (born Arthur Lea III) compliments his partner well. Picking up the microphone at the age of 9, he has developed his own voice that reflects both his California DNA as well as an interest in the macabre. Among his successful early works was his album Case 17 (so named for the 17 murders tied to serial killer, Jeffrey Dahmer).

Now at 24 years old, Trizz lyrical skills earned him a place on horrorcore legend, Brotha Lynch Hung's, Madesicc Muzicc label. This includes earning two writing credits on Brotha Lynch Hung's seventh studio album Mannibalector (2013) and appearing on the Independent Powerhouse Tour", alongside Tech N9ne, Rittz and Kutt Calhoun.

Gearing up for the release of "AmeriKKa's Most Blunted 2" the duo whetted fan's appetites with the release of a free EP titled "The Smoke Out", which dropped in Mid-February. The 3 songs on this EP are available on the CD version as bonus tracks.

Vamp - is a 6 in the morning drama piece which explodes into Juked-out binary code rinser. Arco - features a pure military Grime skank with fizzing synths hectic percussive switch ups and Roger Corman's laser cannon. Bronze - returns to seeming familiar places as the tempos is ratcheted up and we take and eastern junglist detour full of mystery and deft drum programming

Markus Wormstorm - Figure In Field

Jungle Brothers - I'll House You / On The Run

Get On Down presents a unique way to proudly re-live your hip-house' past, with a 7' reissue of the Jungle Brothers' infectious 1988 hit I'll House You,' which was arranged by the legendary Todd Terry. On the B-Side is a fan favorite from the group's stellar Straight Out The Jungle album, On The Run,' which was released as its own single in 1988. Group commentary on both songs, taken from Brian Coleman's book Rakim Told Me: (I'LL HOUSE YOU) MIKE G: That was produced by Todd Terry and us. It was (a different) Todd Terry song, initially. They left us with the track and we wrote the lyrics to it, and did our mix version to it. At the time, we were getting into house music, and hitting all the clubs. AFRIKA BABY BAM: They were laughing at it at first, but it became our biggest hit of that time! We were just having fun with it. There used to be a house show on Kiss FM after Red (Alert), so he'd always play that as his last song.

(ON THE RUN) AFRIKA BABY BAM: That was complicated to make. DJ Sugar Shaft from X-Clan used to cut up that break all the time. Push Up,' by some rock band, I think. I looped it up like a machine gun beat. The bassline was from The Mexican' (by Babe Ruth). Mike kicked the lyrics to me at first over the phone. He said, I'm a Scooby Doo so I don't be late' and I was like: Wow!'

Various - Off Track Compiled & Mixed By Kon & Amir (re-release)

Continuing our 20th anniversary celebrations, one of our most sought-after back-catalogue gems gets a long awaited repress.

Even in this digital age, the beating heart of modern R&B and hip-hop is still vintage soul, funk and jazz. Modern producers, searching for music of integrity, continue to scour dusty racks of records for inspiration. What Kon and Amir have done is make their lives easier. The first collection in the five part Off Track' series, contains 28 superb songs that you've probably never heard of. Musical treasure-hunters by trade, Kon and Amir have spent the past twenty-five years excavating record bins finding gems to pierce ears with. Fortunately, everyone gets to share in the riches of their labor with the reissue of their first offering from the popular The Off Track' Series.

The Off Track series built on the successes of their highly respected On Track' series. Unlike the On Track' series, which featured short snippets of samples and breaks, the Off Track double series features full versions of some the best and rarest audible gems in their entirety.

The ruins of the failed city of Factoria lie under the residential subdivision of Silverwood Heights in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the hometown of producer extraordinaire Graham Murawsky (aka Factor Chandelier).

Just prior to World War I, Chicago entrepreneur Robert E. Glass ventured north with dreams of building an elaborate industrial city in a formerly typhoid-riddled secure electrical power turned Factoria into a ghost town. Inspired by the obscure story of the Magic City that never was, Murawsky has crafted a 13-track album that pays homage to Factoria and wonders what could have been.

On the Factoria LP, Murawsky's follow-up to the 2013 concept album Woke Up Alone, he builds a city of expansive, sample-free beats that bang with punishing drums and industrial clatter at one moment and exude a melodic, pastoral calm the next. Recorded and mixed by Factor at his Chandelier Studios in Saskatoon, the album incorporates the bass of Enver Hampton, violin and guitar from The Pxrtals, and guest vocals from a host of Fake Four family and friends.

Open Mike Eagle brings his emotive, pensive musings to "Dozer II" while Awol One, Gregory Pepper, and Ceschi reunite over the funky bass of "Noise Band", a gloomy, self-deprecating sequel to their 2009 collaboration with Factor on "Back Then". Myka 9 explores the concept of building through an abstract historical context on "Shoulders of Giants" before "Old Organs" closes out the record with crashing drums, eerie organs, and wraith-like wails.
