Herma Puma makes his Hero Records debut with 2 tracks featuring legendary New York MCs QNC (aka Q-Ball and Curt Cazal). With the funky 'Killing Me' and the grimy head-cracking breaks of 'I Did It (For Hip Hop)' this double-sider is a welcome return to classic beats and rhymes. QNC proudly proclaim they did it for hip hop and hip hop is all the better for it!

Beat creater and DJ Herma Puma aka Pimpernel Jones makes head nodding hip hop inspired by obscure jazz, library and funk records. Previous releases include the album 'Synchromystic' and 7" single 'Disposable Rappers' on First Word as well as tracks and remixes on labels such as Wah Wah 45s, Wass, Tea Sea and My First Moth. Herma Puma's collaboration with Renegades of Jazz 'Shake Me' b/w 'not Tonight' by The Monades is out soon on limited 7" vinyl on Hero Records (cat.no. HR015S).

QNC should need no introduction but if you have been hiding under a rock for the last 25 years then they have released a bagful of singles on seminal labels such as Gee Street , D&D and Chopped Herring as well as the album "Dynamic Duo" on Grand Central and have been featured on releases by the likes of Aim and Rae & Christian as well as the two collabrations with Frameworks on Hero Records - 'Ain't No Use' (HR007S) and 'I Need Your Love' (HR014S). Oh, and not forgetting Curt Cazal's former group, the phenomenal and highly influential, JVC FORCE of 'Strong Island' fame.

A more drugged out Cali sun drenched hazier version of the Chicago sound, but there's barely time to catch your breath for that bong hit as this 12 baits along with the same frenetic pace and energy of its the Mid West inspirations. All anchored by vocal hooks, there's a strong hip hop feel to this quirky and original 12.

First Word Records delivers some late summer heat with the first release by newly formed duo of French producer Fulgeance and DJ Scientist from Berlin. Scientist is renowned as one of Germany's most prolific record collectors, as anyone who heard his 2013 mix of 70s Soviet Grooves for Ninja Tune's Solid Steel will testify. Trawling through his extensive collection he dug out a haul of rare samples for Fulgeance, MPC virtuoso and one half of Souleance, who transformed the source material into one of the most exciting projects on our label so far: 'The Soviet Tape'.

'Moscow Nightlife' is the first single from the album, paired with two other tracks aimed squarely at the DJs and the diggers. Built on an incredibly catchy sample it is a definite winner on the dance floor. 'Imperialist Monsters' delivers even more heat and is based on a jazzy Latvian Pop Rock recording. Spiced with thrilling vocals from an old anti-Russian CIA documentary it blends light and dark with an ease that is a trademark of the full album. Finally, on the flip side (and exclusive to this EP) 'Caucasian Wolf Dance' is another DJ-friendly funky Hip-Hop track that mixes traditional Georgian vocal flavours with Fulgeance's fat beats.

MF DOOM & MADLIB ARE MADVILLAIN. The MC and producer's collaboration Madvillainy was released 10 years ago this week. Stones Throw has released a subtle update of the vinyl in silver, black & day-glo orange: Madvillainy (limited, 10-year anniversary edition). Here's how it happened. Madlib wanted to record with Doom. We found the guy, brought him out to the house in the east Los Angeles hills where Stones Throw was based at the time. Most of the tracks were written and recorded there, Madlib making beats in a former bomb shelter downstairs, Doom writing on the back porch and recording in a bedroom. 'Meat Grinder' and 'Figaro' were made in the first couple days - songs lit, in the booth, with the best host / Doing bong hits on the roof out in the west coast. Madlib and Egon were in Brazil after the first round of tracks were put together, which Madlib bought to listen to on a CD-R. He made a few more beats out there which would end up on the album, using a portable record player, an SP 303 and a borrowed cassette deck. Meanwhile, some sad-sack jackass burned a copy of the demo and decided to post it on the internet - wasn't even tweaked and it leaked into cyberspace / couldn't wait for the snipes to place / at least a track list in bold print type face. Declaring the album 'already out,' the artists more or less gave up on the record and it took months to bring them back to the project. Verse 2 of 'Rhinestone Cowboy' was written and recorded over 6 months after the first verse. Sometimes he rhyme quick, sometimes he rhyme slow, or vice versa / Whip up a slice of nice verse pie, hit it on the first try. Be weary of the 'first try' claim - Doom tweaked and perfected his lyrics and delivery several times through late 2003. Madvillainy with no hooks and dirty beats was released March 23, 2004. L.B.T (Live Beat Tapes) are a collective formed of hip hop producers, jazz musicians, rappers and singers. This album is a compilation of singles, an overview of a year's work and of 10 digitally released episodes. This 12-members collective of Florentine-based artists / hippies is a dynamic, ever-evolving musical experiment, in search of the perfect vibe.

D-Fekt is primarily known as an MC from the band "Weltuntergäng". Just recently he, Grasime and L-One released the album 'Dokmatiker´s Elfen' (Tieftonkultur), where D-Fekt proved his rap skills. Beyond that, themusical all-rounder produces a part of the beats for himself and his bandmate Grasime.
With 'Schattenseite' he´s now releasing his first instrumental album on 58Beats that reflects various facets of his songs - melodic, soft,chilly, driving, sometimes almost poetic or melancholic, but always in a positive mood off the beaten tracks. While others are sleeping, D-Fekt is using the silence of the night for creativity which paved the way for many new songs that were composed during the last 3 years. 15 of these tracks were selected for the album "Schattenseite". Space sounds, destructive, synthesized melodies, earthy, pumping drum tones, creaky bass lines and soulful, jazzy notes get mixed up uncompromisingly. Debut album from new talent on Jakarta Records!

Mura Masa is an 18 year old producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from the Channel Islands. After a childhood learning guitar, piano, drums and writing with local bands, he turned his hand to production, taking influence from a newly found interest in hip-hop and the art of sampling. With cues from modern electronic acts such as Hudson Mohawke, James Blake and Cashmere Cat, most of his music is produced in his small bedroom on the coast of Guernsey. He has quickly gathered a loyal online fanbase, following plays on BBC Radio 1 and Rinse FM and posts on prominent sites such as Majestic, Hypetrak, pigeonsandplanes and many more. He soon became friends with the Soulection collective and just recently signed with Jakarta Records after being featured on their - Summer In Jakarta' compilation.

Mura Masa's music combines the energy of electronic production and club culture with the rustic and organic sounds and timbres of traditional sample beatmaking. Where others use the same sounds and patterns again and again he manages to create soundscapes that are fresh and unique.
His efforts culminate in the forthcoming project, "Soundtrack To A Death", a fourteen track exploration of his progress so far set for release this November.

Like his artist name, this release is inspired by the Japanese legend of the sword smith Mura Masa. Mixing modern sounds with classic Japanese melodies Mura Masa's melancholic vibes on 'Soundtrack To A Death' remind us of the good times that were and could have been.

He will play his first live show in Brighton on Nov 20th to celebrate the release.

Complete Works 1970-1975. Edward 'Apple' Nelson is best known for the small clutch of 45s he released under the Apple and The Three Oranges name on local Los Angeles labels in the 1970s. He first found credit as 'Apple' on a Marie Franklin single released the Stage Music imprint which led to the issue 'Free And Easy,' the first record released as Apple and The Three Oranges. This rapid development from road hog to recording artist inspired him to found Sagittarius Records, named after his zodiac sign. His run with Sagittarius contains six unimpeachable soul and funk numbers released under the Apple and The Three Oranges banner and one issued under his own name, Ed. (sic) Nelson. This material is ripe for a historical reappraisal. The low fidelity of every Apple and The Three Oranges single was never a problem for the low-riding Eastside Angelenos, who lionized tracks such as 'True Love Will Never Die,' but their muddy quality cast Nelson outside of the canon in which troubled soul singers like Bobby Womack have held court for decades. Nelson's master tapes — lost in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina — will never surface to right this wrong. And the records themselves are rare: the 'Love Brings Out The Best Of You,' 'Curse Upon The World' and 'I'll Give You A Ring (When I Come, If I Come)' singles are amongst the most sought after and expensive Los Angeles soul and funk records to ever list at auction. Thus, we are privileged to present Nelson's complete works in our Free and Easy anthology. Nearly forty years after he gave up on his recording career, we're left with little more than Nelson's explosive music and his straight-shooting stories of his life's arc. The fact he can't explain his life's contradictions are what makes the extensive interview contained in Free and Easy's book a compelling read. Electro-Blues Vol.2 is a double digipack CD and download album featuring one side of vintage and another of vintage-influenced sound. Taking a fresh look at what constitutes the blues, both musically and in terms of attitude, this album is not one for the purist. Side-stepping the cliches (and taking the inevitable flak), it aims to breathe new life into a genre that once defined cool.

Side one is hot off the dance floor at our underground test-bed club nights in London and Brighton where vintage classics have been cut with hip-hop, dub step, glitch and break beat. Combining the energy and feel of the original music with the clean percussive production of the lap-top generation adds a welcome sonic frisson. Side two further compliments this by re-contextualising the idiom as a form of gritty late night jukebox entertainment and offering a reminder that the roots of this music are as much about Saturday night escapism as they are about extended guitar solos on a 12 bar progression.

FloFilz ist einer der talentiertesten Newcomer der hiesigen Beatmacher-Szene. Bei Soundcloud erreichen seine Tracks regelmäßig sechstellige Playzahlen, seine Kollabos mit Eloquent und Wun Two sind Legende. Mit "Metronom" erscheint nun das erste Soloalbum des in Belgien aufgewachsenen Wahlaacheners auf Melting Pot Music. FloFilz stammt aus einer Musikerfamilie und studiert selbst Geige. Kaligola , born Gabriele Rosciglione , was born November 19, 1997 in Rome , lives in a suburb of the city . He attended the fourth year of high school . He loves music , but not only has a passion for botany , photography and cinema. His stage name was born by chance when , at the age of fourteen, mail successfully on youtube the song : Ego sum Kaligola , depopulating the web and getting media attention , even for the unusual use of phrases Latin within its texts . He studied piano for a few years . Musically formed listening to classical music , jazz , funk , soul and hip hop . He likes most of narrative poetry . His love for music and poetry goes hand in hand with a passion for cinema and its soundtracks. His favorite directors are Hitchcock , Kubrick , Spielberg and Tim Burton . The composers are the most beloved Bernard Hermann , John Williams and Wojciech Kilar . This passion for cinema is felt his many texts . So far he has produced , directed and edited all video clips of his songs , available in youtube channel " Gabbofilm production" . The young rapper , and in the summer of 2014 produced his first two individual officers : Fanciullino rap and Knight Bus , and then present between the New Proposals of the Sanremo Festival 2015. Kaligola is the youngest of the competitors . In conjunction with the event of the Festival , will release his debut album , with the title of the song with the Sanremo : Beyond the garden . The album contains eleven songs , written and composed by the same Kaligola , with the cooperation , for the arrangements and production , Henry Solazzo and Dario Rosciglione .

The Phantom is older than you think, both figuratively and literally. His debut on vinyl was on 'It's my mike' by the funky force 2 back in 1987 on Amanda Records. In 1988 he recorded as part of the group The Force and recorded 'the mission' with the producer Powercut. He is probably best known for being one of the main MC'S in cult group Dynametrix, who released an EP in 1991 and an LP in 1994 called 'A measure of force' on Kold Sweat Records. He also appeared on three tracks on the Unsung Heroes LP' Unleashed' as well as appearing with Tom Dice on 'Thug Killer'.
From a live battle victory against Uncle B nice in the iconic club Dingwalls, to an underground dispute with the famous Hijack, The Phantom always holds his own. It would be a mistake, however, to confuse his lyrical ferocity for physical violence: hence the title 'The Art of Fighting without Fighting' as quoted by Bruce Lee; a reminder that hip-hop can offer us opportunities away from violence and predictable stereotype: To fight without fighting!
This 9 track LP begins with' I'm blazin'' a black exploitation soundscape, which upon close listening has a looped dialect in the background. A creative envelope pusher! The tales of the crypt are brought to life on the dark foreboding menace of 'walking nightmare' whilst The Phantom patents a back and forth, new style, on 'Missile in Reverse'. This lyric was first debuted on the 279 rap show when he appeared alongside his friend, Principal Mark of the Prime Rhyme Masters in 1993. On '2, 1 2, 1' The Phantom is joined by Tom Dice on some freestyle telepathy tip that could never have been pre-written. This was found on a DAT session from 1997 where 1 mike was passed back and forth. There will only be 250 of these LP's made available of which 60 will be promo. So get them fast!! This will be the first LP on Don't Bite Records. There are only 50 copies remaining!

The art of Kammerflimmer Kollektief is deception. It is a persuasive and seductive art, resulting in incorrect assessments and doubtful perceptions. It is an art of disorientation and misdirection. In the Kollektief's current production Désarroi (disorientation), their 10th and wildest album, they do it again: Welcome to the Kammerflimmery!

Mo Kolours is a half-Mauritian, half-English producer, singer and percussionist. On his self-titled debut album he displays dazzling inventiveness and joyous spirit - unsurprising for someone raised on the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Lee Perry and A Tribe Called Quest while remaining ever curious about his Indian Ocean roots.
The album Mo Kolours follows a trilogy of EPs for One-Handed Music that mixed soul, dub, hip-hop, various electronic styles and the Sega music native to Mauritius. Recognising Mo's singular voice Gilles Peterson invited him to Maida Vale Studios to record a live session for the BBC before his first EP had even hit the shelves. Now Mo counts the likes of Hot Chip's Joe Goddard and Friendly Fires' Jack Savidge among his fans.

There's an exotic appeal to Mo Kolours and his music but there's also something very British about this record. Mo Kolours follows in the footsteps of UK artists who have synthesised a variety of imported styles and added the indelible stamp of our rainy island, from The Specials and Cymande (who receive a tribute here in the form of Mike Black) to Massive Attack and Mala. His humour reveals an idiosyncratic Britishness too, as when he shouts out forgotten budget rides such as the Datsun Sunny on Play It Loud (In Your Car) or titles his ominous environmental warning Natural Disasters Wish List.

There's plenty of seriousness here though, from his reimagining of dance music on The Afro Quarters to his remarkable rhythmic production prowess: witness the irresistible funk of Say Word or the nagging steel drum hook on lead single and live favourite Little Brown Dog.

This album introduces a generous and endlessly creative talent to the world at large. And, as with his mesmerising live show, Mo Kolours doesn't just give us a glimpse of the path less travelled but also offers us the fruits of his labours along the way.

Last year two disco 12' Record Store Day releases from BBE became instant collectables... we expect this year's releases to be no exception, but this time around the philosophy is 'less is more' as we showcase the hip-hop side of the label across two very special limited 7' singles from J Dilla and DJ Vadim.
First up is a track from J Dilla that has been crying out for 7' single release ever since it debuted on his second BBE album The Shining in 2006. Love has Pharoahe Monch throwing down his rhymes in praise of soul music and being in love over an evocative Curtis Mayfield sample and urgent yet funky soundscape from the man many felt was the greatest hiphop producer of them all. People have wanted anything and everything from the man also known as Jay Dee ever since his Slum Village days, and the few releases that have slipped out since his death only add to his aura ...this bona-fide legitimate release cements the legend, a must for all true hip-hop heads.

Annonymous super-producer takes a swing at the widely distributed multitracks of this tune, to great effect. A has pumped up FUNKY beats & swirly vocals. B is a fairly stock mix, but has all the vocals backwards, which is surprisingly emotive. Deep.
