Die Geschichte hinter "Lost Tapes" klingt wie aus dem Zeitalter der analogen Aufnahmegeräte und Medien. Die Songs haben Paco Mendoza und DJ Vadim schon 2008 zwischen London, Berlin und Köln zusammen produziert. Doch kurz vor der Veröffentlichung des Solo-Albumdebüts "Consciente y Positivo" von Paco Mendoza verschwanden die Originalaufnahmen. Auf einem Langstreckenflug von Europa nach Peru ging ein Koffer verloren. Mit dabei waren die sechs Tracks auf einer Festplatte. Auf dem selben Flug zerstörte ein Virus die Sicherungskopien auf dem Computer von Paco: es schien wie ein Fluch aus dem digitalem Zeitalter. Das Duo hat es seitdem nie wieder geschafft sich zusammenzusetzen und die Songs noch einmal im gleichen Stil zu produzieren. Die Veröffentlichung der Songs auf dem Album musste abgesagt werden, dass einzige was blieb waren digitale Mixdowns im MP3-Format. Doch wie es der Zufall will, hat Paco Mendoza auf seiner letzten Reise zu seiner Familie nach Peru ein kleines Wunder erlebt: Aus der Anlage eines Straßenhändlers mitten in der Millionenmetropole Lima schallt der Song "Candela" in die Menge. Der Song wird auf einem Tape mit anderen Titeln verkauft. Paco kann den Verkäufer überzeugen, dass er der Sänger ist und erhält nach langen Verhandlungen die Telefonnummer des Tape- und CD-Produzenten in de Händen, der für tausende Musik-Straßenhändler der Hauptstadt Perus die Ware produziert. Nach etlichen Telefonaten, konspirativen Treffen in einsamen Hinterhöfen und intensiver Überzeugungsarbeit passiert das Unmögliche: Paco Mendoza bekommt die Festplatte mit den Master-Tracks zurück. Im gleichen Moment scheint der Titel der EP klar: "Lost Tapes". Jeder Song für sich ist ein Meisterwerk. Voller eindringlicher Lyrics, satter Beats, einfallsreicher Samples und einer sehr organischen Produktionstechnik. Paco Mendozas variabler spanischer Gesang, vermischt mit den unverkennbaren Beats von DJ Vadim, wird zu einem Klanggenuss zwischen Deep Hip Hop und Downbeat. Die souligen Lyrics von Paco Mendoza haben passend zu den Arrangements inhaltlichen Tiefgang. Der Song "Justicia" ist ein Schrei nach sozialer Gerechtigkeit und eine klare Positionierung Paco Mendozas für die Seite der "entrechteten". Gefeatured von seinem Bruder Don Caramelo und Deuce Eclipse. Der Track "Candela" ist eine Hymne an das Leben, gefeatured von der Londonerin Yarah Bravo, die mit ihrem Flow den Song Hitverdächtig macht.

Umse macht das Rap-Ding nicht erst seit gestern. Shows zwischen Flensburg und Luzern, youtube-Videos mit 300.000+ Clicks, 2 Alben und 2 EPs Alles dagewesen. Trotzdem ist für ihn die Zeit nicht stehen geblieben. Der Titel seines Debütalbums auf Jakarta Records ist Programm: "Wachstum".
Drei Jahre hat Umse an seinem neuen Album zusammen mit Hausproduzent Deckah geschraubt, aber "es brauch halt seine Zeit bis die Soundästehtik reift", denn etwas "zu verfassen was bleibt heißt eben ackern und schaffen". Das heißt nicht, dass Umse alles anders macht als in den vergangenen Jahren. Es gibt weiterhin "kein Strassendrama mit Handschusswaffen", kein Hipsterrap, keine Dubstepremixe, "keine Sandys und Mandys für den Chorus". Stattdessen besinnt sich Umse auf insgesamt 14 Tracks auf das was ihm "einfach so liegt: Nice Rhymes auf en Beat": zeitlose Musik ohne Redundanz, dafür gewohnt frisches, intelligentes Wortspiel - zugleich aber auch kein "90ties Revival sondern ein Style Überbleibsel".
Das Album wird auf allen Formaten erscheinen, die ersten 150 Kopien der Vinylausgabe auf farbigem Vinyl.

MC Duke's "I'm Riffin' " was a massive UK Hiphop hit back in 1990, and his vocals have been extensively pludered for all genrres of dance music ever since. Well here we have the original mi and acapella along with 2 brand new remixes, UK old skool legends The Criminal Minds update the original adding a little more tension and dare i say.. soul ! Finally Jerome Hill gives us a completely different take sounding like old skool Cyprus Hill or House of Pain and Glasgow MC Mistah Bohze brilliantly spits the lyrics you all know with his own twist while Duke chips in occasionally.

AE Productions are proud to present one of Hip Hop's most criminally overlooked legends Phill Most Chill, teamed up with Bristol veteran Mr Fantastic to deliver a solid Hip Hop record like they used to be done.
In 1988 Phill Most Chill released the now impossibly hard to find 12' 'That Girl/On Tempo Jack/Out To Kill' on 'In Effect Records'. A slamming record that has long since gone down in Hip Hop record collecting folklore and has seen its value spiral up to the $800 mark at it's peak. With several releases in between without much fanfare, in 2011 Phill returned with a vengence with his 'All Cuts Recorded Raw' album on Diggers With Gratitude Records, which sold out in a matter of weeks, instantly gaining almost cult status. The same year Mr Fantastic released his debut producer album 'Harvey's Bristol Cream' on Ruztik Records/AE Productions, featuring some of Bristol's finest MC's and DJ's.
Shortly after this time, mutual appreciation of each others music led to Mr Fantastic sending beats across the Atlantic from Bristol to Philadelphia and then Phill Most Chill replying with the vocal tracks. The outcome is a record that hasn't been done in a while - 2 choice cuts with Vocal, Instrumental and Accapella versions of both tracks on a nice slab of black 12' vinyl with a full colour sleeve - somewhat of a rarity in todays vinyl world of 'limited' or special colour vinyl pressings and 7' singles that can be hard to find and/or expensive.
'Superfunk Inc.' blasts off at a neck snapping 119 BPM with a sample that wouldn't sound out of place in a chase scene in a 70's Blaxploitation movie supplemented by some super funky drums. Phill flows with ease over the hype fast-rap beat and Mr Fantastic supplies the cuts to spell out 'Super', 'Funk', 'I.N.C.' to put the final stamp on it.
'The Most Fantastic' follows at a slightly more regular 104 BPM with heavy drums and bass chopped from some 70's Jazz records and scratched in chanted chorus parts with a nod back to the Disco Rap days of the late 70's and early 80's. This one will get the sample spotters thinking.
No mass appeal Pop-Rap attempt here - just solid joints graced with B-Boy artwork. The final product is a Hip Hop 12' that is reminiscent of the golden age both in sound and imagery.

"Tofu & Alter" assembles six remixes by Dexter, James Pants, Julian Dyne, TBRCK, Danny Breaks and Adlib himself. Featuring Declaime, Black Spade, Frank Nitt, The Primeridian, Panet Asia and Adi Dick on vocals. Robert Winter did the photos and Chicken George the artwork.

DJ Adlib is bringing the Hi-Hat Club back to Cologne. "Haus & Garten" is the sixth installment of our producer series and were taking things to the next level with this one. Not only because Adlib has choosen to share the spotlight with Black Spade, Declaime, Frank Nitt and Planet Asia but simply enough for the music the turntablist turned producer has cooked up in his "Haus & Garten"("House & Garden"). Since 1999, Adlib has been a member of the Noisy Stylus crew, who won trailorloads of turntablist competitions and released their fully scratches album "Table Manners" in 2005. As a producer, Adlib dropped his first solo effort (Adlibertine EP) under UK's exotica drum & bass pioneer Danny Breaks' own imprint Alphabet Zoo. Ever since Adlib has laced production for various hip hop outfits including Stones Throw's MED and Rawkus' Dynas. By no means a beat tape "Haus & Garten" is a complete album by one of Europe's most complete hip-hop producers. One could cite influences ranging from early electronic to prog, from miami to UK bass and still wouldn't do justice. Give it a listen and you'll know what we mean... MC's aside, the album also features Colognes beatsmith Hubert Daviz and long-time Fat Freddy's Drop side-kick Adi Dick. BIO: DENA is Denitza Todorova, a Berlin-based songwriter and vocalist hailing from Bulgaria the southeastern corner of the Balkans. Since moving to Berlin in 2005, she's been seriously honing her self-composed beats and observant-yet-positive lyrical style. DENA's been praised internationally for her unique and fresh flavor, making her an up-and-comer worthy of her recent attention. DENA's style is influenced by 90's pop/hip-hop and RnB via the tunes of Destiny's Child, Salt N Pepa, J Dilla and A Tribe Called Quest mixed with an appreciation for electronic/dance/house such as Moody Man, Crystal Waters and Theo Parish. The phenomenon of Bulgarian Chalga music also plays a role in DENA's experimentation. Rooted in folklore, but remaining a large part of modern Balkan pop, Chalga has been a ubiquitous and controversial presence in Bulgaria for decades. DENA turns the genre on its head by creating contemporary remixes with age-old Balkan beats and melodies. 15 .Star Eyes

"All Ain't The Same " is a collaboration between Bristol producer Ben Dubuisson -AKA "Hundred Strong" and Glasgow singer/songwriter Joseph Malik .Having recorded title track "All Ain't The Same" for previous label Altered Vibes some 7 years previously, the full length collaboration has been some time in the making. However, it was only a chance conversation early in 2012 between Dubuisson and Malik that led to an exchange of ideas and the completion of the long vaunted project.Working from his basement studio in central Bristol Dubuisson sent instrumental files to Malik who drew upon his years of musical and life experiences to create a soulful yet cutting sound. The process was then completed by the addition of live musicians including Kasbian trumpeter Gary Alesbrook and long time Hundred Strong hammond player Evan Newman.Finally, Dubuisson introduced Malik to fellow Glasgow singer Louise Berry AKA Lou Angel who was bought in as backing singer. Through their vocal collaborations a relationship developed which resulted in them getting together outside of the studio. Is there strength in numbers In the this case the collaboration of Hundred Strong and Joseph Malik proves there is. The Vinyl Ep features 5 tracks from the lp and is pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl for enhanced listening.

How could we talk about Kavinsky without evoking the movie that introduced his music to the general public Dazzling success of the independant film industry of the last couple of years, Drive is the kind of movies in which the soundctrack takes a front seat role. As in his previous realisations, Nicolas Winding Refn took great care, with the help of Cliff Martinez (former drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers), to select the tracks that would feature in his latest movie. It's in this way he picked Nightcall for the opening scene, and we soon cannot tell anymore if the music responds to the picture or the contrary.



There's no need to point out that the world of Kavinsky and the atmosphere of Drive have a lot more in common. Highly influenced by the silver screen (he started his career as an actor, including in Quentin Dupieux's Steak or Bouli Lanners' Novorama), the musician explained in one of his rare interviews that image and narration are an integral part of his creative process. Thus, when he released his first EP « Teddy Boy » in 2006, the scene was already set : in a neo-noir Los Angeles, the character of Kavinsky perishes in a tragic car accident in 1986. Reimbodied into a zombie, the boy wanders at night tearing up the track at the wheel of a Ferrari Testarossa. Pursuing his girlfriend, he scoffs at the cops, helps old ladies to cross the street and beats up the bad guys in a John Carpenter-ish modern tale of love and loss in which Giorgio Moroder meets Terminator.



Before being revealed to the greatest audience through the success of Nightcall, Kavinsky released various EPs which aroused an enthousiastic suspense among the french electro music sphere. Remixed again and again by leading artists of the scene like Mr Oizo, Arpanet, A-Trak, Sebastian, Justice, Jackson or Breakbot, he was chosen by the Daft Punk to open their world tour Alive in 2007, alongside Sebastian, The Rapture and Klaxons. But their kinship doesn't end there, as Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, half of the robots duo, engineered the production of the melancholic and hypnotic Nightcall, to which Lovefoxxx from the band CSS lend her voice in 2010. Kavinsky's tracks featured many ads and video games, as Testarossa Autodrive in « GTA IV », Road Game for Mercedes-Benz and « Hitman Absolution » or Odd Look for BMW.



While the buzz surrounding Kavinsky is at its peak with 30 million views on Youtube for his biggest hit, his lifelong label Record Makers announced in november the imminent release of his first album « Outrun » to be launched in march 2013. A long-awaited records which promises to be packed with featurings.



The album features 13 tracks including 8 previously unreleased and some reworks. From the first notes, we can hear Paul Hahn (manager of Daft Punk) recounting an introduction to the adventures of Kavinsky. Warm and electric, Blizzard makes its entrance and sets the tone before allowing Protovision to take its place, which with its nervous and synthetic melody was the first excerpt of « Outrun » that whas released on an EP and whose videoclip came out in december as a teaser for the album. Then arrives Odd Look, the first vocal song of the record, which unveils a mysterious funky voice that can remind the groove of Marvin Gayer or Prince. It's then Rampage's turn to take us with its menacing orchestral atmosphere ; after what comes the persuasive beat of Suburbia on which notorious Havoc from Mobb Deep lent his voice. The upgraded version of Testarossa Autodrive confirms the efficacity of this unstoppable melody, and it's at this point we find Nightcall again, the famous ballad produced by Guy-Manuel from Daft Punk and featuring Lovefoxxx from CSS. Dead Cruiser arrives then, muscled yet melancholic, followed by Grand Canyon which takes us with its electrical ritournelle. The voice of Tyson, the new funk revelation from UK, transformed the instrumental First Blood into a génuine hit. The rythmic and melodious Road Game leads us to Endless, which gently closes this long-awaited revealing first opus, with as a conclusion a narrated epilogue by Paul Hahn again

These six psychedelic instrumental hip hop tracks take the listener on a cosmic trip with 70's free experimental sounds as the first stop, passing through the golden era of rap breaks and ending in the vanguard of the contemporary abstract electronic beats scene.

Peter Pank, Losen & Lost Twin are the hosts of this trip and the members of this astral family. A family split between Seville and Brighton which has joined forces to bring us this sonic constellation, which you will definitely want to add to your own musical universe.

As an aside: lost Twin, apart from having developed a strong musical affinity as an avant garde beatmaker (having released a few solo records to date) has also collaborated with some of the finest Spanish MCs and had one of his tracks featured on Giles Peterson's Bro.vnswood Bectr*c compilation.

The six songs which form the "Spaced Out Family EP" give off a pleasant smell of coffee and an intense narcotic cloud. This is a visionary and expansive collage where the artwork, created by Alfonso Cruz, acts as the perfect visual element, complementing the whole experience.

Heading back to planet Earth, anyone who purchases one of the 300 copies of this limited, hand-numbered run (to be released on the 25th of February) will also have access to the full EP in WAV format.
