House Vinyl New Releases - News

Ahead of the UK release of their critically acclaimed album Lokemo, Belgian duo Arsenal kick things off with new single 'Melvin', featuring guest vocals from Shawn Smith of Seattle's Pigeonhed.

After a two-year break, Detroit producer and wayward star-child Jimmy Edgar debuts on Scuba's Hotflush Recordings armed with an album full of futuristic sleaze. Known for his unique take on jacking house and electro funk, he's recently been splitting his time between the US and Berlin, exploring transcendental meditation and the boundaries of the non-physical. This offering is an extension of that journey, bringing eleven tracks of erotic robo-pop to the table. Titled Majenta, this LP is a departure from his past sound, marking a shift in his own ever-expanding consciousness, as well as another exciting chapter of his musical career. Each track is an aural manifesto, giving well-deserved nods to his varied musical influences. Close encounters with Detroit legends Derrick May and Juan Atkins, Jimmy's 2004 signing to Warp Records, and his early exposure to Kraftwerk have all acted as lynchpins in the cultivation of his sound. With a number of releases on Glasstable, Semantica, Nonplus and long player releases on both Warp and !K7, Majenta reflects Jimmy's evolution as both artist and child of the cosmos.According to Edgar, the making of the album was steeped in countless synchronicities, continuously reminding him he was on the right path. In contrast with his last LP, XXX, for !K7, which took five years to make, Majenta is more raw, more spontaneous and in his words, 'more futuristic ... than my other music, which played a lot with retro, especially R&B.' From the outset, Jimmy's flexing his Kraftwerkian muscle, with vocoder complimenting his own unadulterated voice and '80s synthlines bubbling away alongside jazz-funk keyboard riffs. From the raunchy and sexually explicit 'Take Me on a Sex Drive' ('windows down, legs up high') to the low-lit, hypnotic feel of 'Attempt to Make it Last', to the UK garage rhythms of 'Let Yrself Be', to the Kiss-era Prince vibe of 'I Need Your Control', it's clear that the postmodern is Edgar's domain. The Frampton-esque vocals of 'In Deep' close out the LP and further cement his enviable place in the intergalactic community.Spring/Summer 2012 will see Jimmy playing a number of live shows across Europe and the US in support of Majenta (including major festivals such as Glade, UK), as well as his continued exploration into the world of LEDs and synchronized light technology.

'The Noise in the Sky' is the highly anticipated follow up to KBD's highly praised '09' debut 'The B Suite', and sees him delving deep into his 70s influences.. While on tour, he travelled by day listening to 70s jazz and played by night in electro clubs and festivals. While in Detroit to play at the DEMF festival, he visited the historic Motown studios in Hitsville USA and realized the duality of his musical position: influenced on one side by 70s sounds and being part of the Ed Banger label, in his studio, vintage Moogs and Rhodes sharing the space with a computer and plug-ins: he questioned himself on this duality and endeavoured to find a musical answer.

Feadz and Kito met in 2008 at a music festival in Australia and bonded instantly over their passion for
music and music production. The pair kept in contact over the years and met up a number of times when
hey found themselves in the same city. In 2011 Feadz invited Kito to visit him in Paris to work on some
music. After a week in the studio an exciting new project was born; a project that celebrates their mutual
ove for techno music.

A good feeling starts if the first drumsounds of "feel so good" find your way from the boxes in the space. The head own style drawers belonging open in the half dozen and argue about the most correspondent blueprint. House In any case. Disco Unfailable to hear influence. Electro Also not to dismiss this. Dub The father of the whole atmosphere. Cosmic Also this is a part of the authoritative ingredients in the here available circle of the sounds. And the dance floor suction strengthening cow bells are anyway a tight of a track element of all last music generations! Quintessence is, here two artists have poured your wide motley collection in influence in the form of a single track, have condensed and with it have interlocked at least 40 years of dancefloor history in fresh kind with each other. Trockensaft irons the funk-folds of the original in his Remix a little smooth and restack the rhythm part of the track in such a way which develops one substantially percussive and more loop-oriented draft on the dancefloor without disregarding the basic mood of the original. Swayzak lards his variation with well counterbalanced and straight sound elements in which the appropriate knowledge about Techno and Industrial of British coinage speaks out of every soundtrack. It opens to itself a world of fully sombre elegance in which the sound temperature from feverishly kickin' on chilly demanding was lowered down, however, the energy level, even though or also just, therefore, rises precipitously.

part 2!!

BPC-Lady Ellen Allien öffnet die Türen zum Allien Dance. Dark Electro meets House! Die aktuelle 12" "Galactic Horse" wurde von ihren Labelkollegen Skinnerbox co-produziert - expect the unexpected, möchte man sagen - und trifft damit genau ins Schwarze: "Take Me Out" knallt dem Hörer einen knochentrockenen, knackig-rohen Oldschool-Electrofunk-Beat um die Ohren, der in den folgenden siebeneinhalb Minuten portionsweise mit eingängigen Streicher-Hooks und Athmos versüßt wird. Unwiderstehlich!

Last year's 'The Age Of Compassion' by Chicago underground house don Tevo Howard was one of the standout tracks for Buzzin' Fly in 2011with widespread DJ and media support. It joined his burgeoning body of work on other acclaimed labels such as Rush Hour and his own Beautiful Granville. Now Tevo returns with his follow-up for Buzzin' Fly.
If 'The Age Of Compassion' was a simple and elegant dancefloor bump wrapped in warm analogue melancholia, then the 'Monument EP' is its nemesis - a stark future-retro reinterpretation of the origins of house music build from the bare components of machines: raw drums, sub bass, sine waves, square waves and oscillators.
And yet there is still a burnished beauty to this EP. All three tracks seems to find echoes of each other in their arrangements and brittle harmony. Machine music for the modern age edged with passion and feeling, and another fresh step for its producer.

The thirteenth release on Berlin based label Items and Things, steered by

"In music, phrygian mode is dissonant, dark, depressive and gloomy. Its use was even forbidden in classical Greece for centuries because it was considered pagan.

The debut Debukas EP firmly planted him as one to watch, with four tracks that explored underground electronics with a pop sensibility and a grounding in classic house and techno. This new seven track EP continues down this route with his rich analogue sound and soulful vocals again taking centre stage.

The originality of his music stands out with the use of his voice combining as riffs, fx and melodies alongside the more traditional lyrics, and from his well stocked studio of vintage synths and drum machines where he has been honing his craft and developing a sound which is as much indebted to Arthur Russell and Gino Soccio as it is Underground Resistance and Model 500.

The Pleasure Patterns EP explores the outer edges of 4/4 club transmissions with the locked in groove of 'Loads Of Time' and the muscular synths of 'Rings'. Hits an almost disco feel with 'Golden Mind'. Drops the tempo for the loose and percussive 'Titanic' and trippy, hypnotic vibes of Send Me Out' and 'Knowledge' showcases some deft drum programming and vocal editing for futuristic disco dancefloors. It's left to Pional to round the EP off with his remix of 'Golden Mind'. He spots the disco feel of the original and filters it through some Madrid sunshine into a dreamy house epic. We've been fans of Pional for some time, and he's currently riding high after his two collaborations on the John Talabot album which are arguably the finest tracks on the album.

Debukas has recently featured on Mary Anne Hobbs XFM show with a DJ mix and she has played three tracks from the EP on her show. He's also remixed indie darlings Spector, label mates Crazy P and the new single by Drums Of Death. His live show which features a trimmed down version of his studio and live vocals is now hitting the road including a Crazy P support slot at Koko on Saturday 17th March. Already working hard on his debut album, this EP gives you an indication of what to expect from the all singing, all producing Debukas.
