Zopelar arrives on Tartelet with Charme - an album of effervescent machine funk harking back to a golden era of Brazilian party music, releasing October 21st.

The era of interest for Sao Paulo’s Pedro Zopelar begins in the 1980s in Rio de Janeiro, when a particular phenomenon caught on at suburban parties which became known as Charme. “Charme was like a mix of slow boogie, RnB and new jack swing,” explains Zopelar. “DJ Corello started calling ‘charme’ the moment of the party when he played slow grooves and felt that the people started dancing differently, with sexier synchronized moves. Some years later, charme evolved from an awaited moment of a night to a whole movement of parties just playing that kind of music. On this record I tried to make something that brings this emotional feeling to my music in a modern way.”

Much like the original genre-not-genre he drew inspiration from, Zopelar’s approach across his latest LP spans different moods and tempos. There’s blissful, sultry mystery lingering around ‘Clara’ and ‘Do You Feel?’ while OSAGIE lends some chops to the exquisite, Rompler-powered synth funk of ‘Chain Net’. The lead singles ‘Shibuya’, ‘Charme’ and ‘Passado’ all tap into varying shades of deep house, from slinky City Pop-tinted loungers to peak-time dance pop and Larry Heard-influenced flavours, with the constant being Zopelar’s immaculate production and the unbridled warmth of his compositions.

Continuing the Latin-rooted theme of the album, the artworkconception of Charme was realized by multidisciplinary artist and curator Ode, showcasing a popular style of street paintings made by anonymous artists throughout Latin America. It’s not about graffiti-culture but a popular solution utilized by small restaurants, bars and other establishments to use their own walls for commercial purposes, hiring artists to paint food and drink menus or other information about their products.

With an emotional sincerity stemming from his move to reconnect with the Brazilian dimension of his creative background, Charme arrives as Zopelar’s heartfelt celebration of life and music, of sentimental moments shared and good times enjoyed.

Attrition are pioneers in darker electronica. Formed in 1980 in Coventry, England, influenced by a mix of punk ideology and experimental art aesthetics, They emerged as part of the early '80's UK Industrial scene alongside contemporaries Coil, Test Department, Legendary Pink Dots, In The Nursery, Portion Control, and others. Founder Martin Bowes has steered the band through a 40-year career, fueled by a succession of critically acclaimed albums, selling over 100,000 to date. The band has regularly toured Europe, North and South America, Russia and Asia, appeared at major festivals and had their music included on a number of TV and film soundtracks.
The band celebrates their 40 year anniversary with their latest release, A Great Desire on Sleepers Records. The album is a compilation of some of their best tracks from 1986-2004, some never before on vinyl.

As one of the people behind the taste making Subwax distribution & label, Baldo's pedigree within the European electronic music community cannot be under stated. Here he pulls together seemingly disparate threads of house & techno from both the past and present to create a well rounded and diverse EP on E-Beamz, from the reminiscent 90's garage house sounds of 'Ethereal Tubes' to the acid tech of 'Drive' and the unashamedly hands in the air stomper 'Ex Machina' (Power House Mix).

Featuring some extra terrestrial funk from Martyné, a deep space acid journey courtesy of Z@P, a breakbeat bassline pumper by Pleasure Club’s very own Bobby. & Mariiin, and last but not least a slick minimal excursion from Harry McCanna aka Henry Hyde.

The first compilation from the new How High label, featuring some of Tokyo's finest artists! Tokyo-based DJ/producer Ryokei's How High party label has released its first compilation single! The artists on this compilation are Takashi Himeoka, a core member of the Phreak label who releases on Cabaret Recordings and Binarysound, Tokyo based DJ/producer Hisashi, Chatty Chatty Mutants, Riku Sugimoto, who also releases on the H24 label, and label stalwart Ryokei. With a background in tech house, electro and minimal, all of these tracks have the funkiness and precision of dancefloor savvy, but are also
very DJ-friendly. This is the first release from a label that's been around for a long time!

Revered bossman Nonentity takes the Source Material back to its roots with this firing new EP on hand-stamped and numbered 10". 'Denzel' is the visceral opener and one that sounds as if its synths have been fired by the hadron collider they are so fierce and fast. The drums too are hefty and the squelchy bass rounds out this instant electro classic. 'Equilibrium' on the flip takes a deeper tact, with moody chords hinting at unease as the slapping drum funk powers onwards. It's a two-tracker that is well worth adding to your aural assault arsenal.

Freestyle Records drop an unmissable LP of foundational UK dance music made between 1982 to 1984, in the form of the collected output of Contact-U - aka Rick de Jongh and Andy Sojka's stripped-back electro boogie project.

At the turn of the 1980s Challenge Records was founded on North London's Holloway Road - formed by Andy Sojka & Rick de Jongh to act as a sister-label to Sojka's seminal soul & boogie-focused Elite imprint. Initially releasing a smattering of lovers rock singles, Challenge would quickly begin to focus-in on the emerging sounds of Hi-NRG & electro - with Contact-U, an alias for Rick & Andy's own stripped-back productions, becoming Challenge's first act in this vein.

Recording the sublimely wonky spaceage funk of 'Inside You' in November of 1982, de Jongh & Sojka followed this up over the next 2 years with three 12" releases for Challenge before hanging up the moniker. Providing infectious synth-based melodies & basslines with killer drum-machines & minimal but effective live percussion - and in a couple of instances (see "Inca Sacrifice" and "Breaking Point') crucial dub re-versions on their B-sides - these tracks are some of the strongest electro-funk records to come out of the UK during this period. Dig in!

Fierce rolling tracks with emotive strings and fresh beats on this new James Shinra ep! Bolam is back on Space Dust with the 'Lost In Time' EP, a continuation of the journey started with the widely acclaimed 'Suspended Animation'. Another well-rounded and diverse record dives into the wormhole with ’Moving Lights’, a high-energy affair propelled by filtering resonators and a haunting vocal. ’Ozone’ breaks through the stratosphere of a new world, a huge track with electro-inspired groove, booming kicks and a razor-sharp lead melody, creating a feeling of uncertainty and delirium with swelling pads and arpeggiators.

The B-side begins with the mysterious and epic, genre-defying anthem ’Air Tension’, enticing the listener into the strange new world with a chugging rhythm, tantalising textures and an indescribable melody that keeps you on the line between paranoia and euphoria. ’Bioluminescence’ descends into an alien jungle, with a hypnotic, dreamy, downtempo beat and iridescent synths and chords. Finally, as you lay down in the otherworldly glade, the record wraps up with the ethereal, ambient finisher, ‘2 Parsecs From Home’.

While our lives are being set upside down due to a crazy amount of events, from climate change to eco-political re-assessment with crisis and pandemic emergencies a new spiritual era is approaching us. Rituals as well as magical practices are what we really need to learn how to go through this and be born again. We need to look inward and seek the truth that we can neither find in the outside world nor inside the digital one.

Dance music's prolific Italian-born London-based sharpshooter Riva Starr set to release fourth artist album Curveballs via Adam Beyer's revered Truesoul Records.

Riva Starr has been shaking up the world of dance music with his eclectic and unpredictable palette of sounds and styles for over a decade. Over the years, he has racked up numerous accolades and achievements including releasing 3 acclaimed albums (If Life Gives You Lemons, Make Lemonade in 2010, Hand In Hand in 2013 and Definition of Sound in 2016), having a myriad of single/EP releases on some of dance music's most established labels (Snatch! Records, Hot Creations, Relief, Crosstown Rebels, Dirtybird) and amassing an impressive remix resume of artists including; Audion, Groove Armada, Dennis Ferrer, Usher, Estelle, London Grammar, Fatboy Slim, Reboot and David Morales.

With all of this success and experience under his belt, the time has come for the talented Italian to deliver his much awaited fourth long-player, Curveballs - comprising of 12 stellar tracks inspired by current club sounds and old school music elements, driven by Starr's endeavor to produce music that stands the test of time.

The LP's striking opener, 'Always' gets things underway and sets the tone with its powerful house groove, warm chord stabs and divine soulful vocal courtesy of legendary house diva Jocelyn Brown. Elsewhere, there's the funk-driven disco-tinged 'Piknik', the uplifting 'Needin' U' esque 'Disco Loco', the dark and commanding 'The Hole (Release Your Soul) and the pounding peak-time synth-laden roller 'Give Me Love'.

Other highlights include, the infectious breakbeat workout 'Britcoin', the techy electro-tinged 'Fresh' and the experimental synth-driven Techno gem 'AnalHog'. The album concludes with 3 fine cuts in the form of the bass heavy TR-909 laden 'Ride', the funk-fueled house groover 'Mantra (Early In The Morning)' and an exclusive deep-house-esque Dub version of 'Give Me Love' to round off yet another essential long-player from one of dance music's much-loved artists.

Take a ride with Windsurfer (Jonas Zollinger and Patrick „Kay-Zee“ Hollenstein) on their fresh EP „The Gone Village“. The A-side leads straight into their musical waters: lo-fi drum machines, synths and vocal shouts set the tone with the tracks "Ü Hell" and "The Waves“. Reminiscences of No Wave and Electro Funk shine through, the block party seems to take place right around the corner. Kejeblos' remix of "The Waves" pulls the track further onto the dance floor adding more low end to it. The B-side takes a calmer approach: "We Live As We Dream" is made of percussion and synth patterns that weave together in a mantra-like manner. Finally „Its a Sony-Battery Love“ builds on analogue synths playing a beautiful lullaby, joined by guitar and tape effects, running until the battery seems to be empty.

We welcome Stasis to De:tuned! UK techno pioneer Steve Pickton has dug deep into his DAT tapes collection to unearth 2 previously unreleased recordings from the golden era '92-'93. Both rarities offer a trademark lush and retro-futurist Detroit inspired sound that is totally unique. Fellow Likemind legend Nuron provides a stunning remix. The track was built up from scratch as no stems were available, giving you another sneak peek of the genius musical mind that is Nuron.

The vinyl version comes with impeccable sleeve and label artwork by Abdul Haqq (Third Earth).
Mastered by Matt Colton at Metropolis and pressed on 180 gr vinyl.

The classy conclusion of volume 3 B2 “By Myself” comes courtesy of Neuronphase (Estonia) featuring sensual flute grooves from USA/Scotland based artist Brad P; they bring a pure vision of deep atmospheric production that takes us across lush tours of House, and refreshing moods of melody seduction.
