The aesthetic is no doubt getting worn out: you can barely move for tounge-in-cheek DJ aliases, palm-tree emojis and VHS screen grabs of 90s A-listers.

Against that backdrop, Helter cuts through like a rough-edged asteroid.

"Polaris EP", The London producer's debut vinyl release after a few leaked tracks created a buss on SoundCloud, hits the reset button on the hackneyed discourse that surrounds decayed house music.

The four tracks on offer cascade between blasts of tectonic rhythm, colour and melody, and washed-out ambience, intertwining and soaking into each other.

The deck is still broken, but it punches in all the right places. A sun-warped, boards of Canada sequel pumped full of adrenaline and grit.

The soundtrack to a broken ecstasy, sure to leave half the kids in a trance and the other with shit dripping down their legs.

Helter is pushing the genre of misshapen house music into a new dimension - one with more energy, and through a truly shattered lens.

Music is Love boss returns to his home label after a few brief excursions on Hot Creations & Viva Music last year, and he returns in style. 3 summer time slammers and a stella remix from the Mak & Pasteman boys. Middle Ground is a dusty filtered house track, aligned with a soaring string section, which narrate the warm uplifting journey this track lays down. Mandingo was made as a tool for Oli s sets last summer and after some huge reactions and some serious demand, Mandingo was set for a vinyl release. Big stabs and plenty of funk this track is party ready. On the flip we find Mak & Pasteman return to Music is Love after an appearance on the 3rd LOVEBOX VA in 2016. Piano4 is flipped into what these boys do best, Simple stripped back grooves delivered with stupendous power. On B2 is the original take on Piano4 which sees Oli flexing his power house muscles on this big piano track. Piano4 is an unrelenting beast that twists and turns its way through various passages of maximum intent.

House hit makers MOTHER RECORDINGS are back with another tight two track package. This one comes from the label boss NHAN SOLO, a real house talent with plenty of great singles and EPs in his back catalogue, most often on his own great label.

Opening the release is SHOW ME LOVE, a deep and groovy number with nice piano chords rolling over slick house groove. Power female vocal add fuel and emotion to the fire and the whole thing really casts a spell on you.

BROTHERS KEEPERS is on the flip and is another kicking house tune with sleek metallic drums, great percussive tension with smart kills and filters, and clipped vocals that inject real warmth and soul. Both cuts carry on in this Berlin based producer's fine tradition and are sure to get plenty of dance floors on their toes in the coming months.

The next reissue classic on Henry Street Music comes from Scott Kinchen AKA Scotti Deep. Originally released in 1997.

February 23rd saw the release of Sidney Charles's retrospective full length 'House Lessons' album on AVOTRE. Here we get treated to a second single from the album, complete with a fresh new remix from the original house gangster, DJ Sneak.
German talent Sidney Charles has become an influential producer since emerging in 2011: his full fat, chunky house offerings have become staples in DJ sets and he has served up many modern dance floor classics along the way. Always touring the world and laying down engaging sets full of many house flavours, here we get another fine serving of his unique sound in the form of new single 'Psyjack.'

The track is a full blooded bit of jacking house with tough drums, icy hi-hat loops and rib rattling bass that thumps out a sweaty groove. Oversized and emphatic throughout, some tripped out melodic breakdowns offer intricate musical moments before the physical drums bang once more. It's first rate club music, make no mistake.

It's a perfect track to be re-worked by I'm A House Gangster label boss and all round Chicago house pioneer DJ Sneak. His version is pricklier, and hypnotically loopy. With vocal stabs and barreling kick drums, loose, DIY sounding percussion and shooting synth lines it's a raw and genetic bit of house music that cannot fail to make dance floors sweat.


Once again we are reminded that Sidney Charles is at the top of the modern house pile and that AVOTRE know exactly who to enlist to remix their releases to the greatest effect.

Vinny Villbass is one of the long time driving forces behind the Norwegian club scene. In addition to an extensive list of club nights and house parties on his conscience, he is one third of the crew behind the renown Oslo club night Sunkissed and initiator of the Norwegian web-portal OsloClubCast, building ties between the clubs, DJ's, and producers of Oslo.

As DJ, Vinny Villbass is known for his exceptional groove and timing as a result of 15 years behind the decks, mostly in Scandinavia, but also as a resident of German club capitol Berlin, and in New York City.

His musical experience also reaches far beyond his 15 years as house DJ and vinyl junkie. As guitar and synth player in diskJokkeBand and a master of acoustics, Vinny Villbass´ production skills fronts his very own trademark sound of house music.

In addition to releases on labels such as Eskimo Recordings, Trunkfunk and Afro Art, Villbass also has a long history of remixing. The latest years, he has been remixing Norwegian bands as diversions from his daily studio focus. "Diversions" collects a wide range of Vinny Villbass' trademark analogue reworks, all produced at his peculiar studio collective at Grünerløkka in Oslo. Focus on each bands distinctive energy has resulted in a diverse compilation of contemporary Norwegian quality, from Norwegian Grammy award winning bands Beglomeg and King Midas, to Deathcrush, Pow Pow, Radio 9 and Lionheart Brothers, plus electropop artist Sandra Kolstad and jazz futurists Jaga Jazzist.

When we started Heist a few years back, our idea was to give a stage to talent in a same way as we have had a helping hand by the labels that have supported us from the beginning. Therefore, it's our pleasure to share this release with you by newcomers 'Ouer', a Berlin based duo with only a handful of tracks out so far on their self released debut last year. Their approach to producing is very much jam based, and with a compact collection of synths, drum machines and a fair level of distortion, they succeed in creating their own sound with hints of classic electronic music from Chicago and Detroit. There's a nice mix of energy on the whole EP, 'The ascent being the most driving track of the package'. Fans of classics MCDE tracks will love 'Show off' with it's dreamy DX7 style chords and cracking acid lines. 'Move over' feels like a jam session that was way too much fun with some lovely solo work on the synths, whereas 'Mess around' goes down in similar free-ride style on the synths and again, has some lovely sampling going on. Not even a month has passed since Sierra Sam and Pascal Hetzel ´s CYRK project launched with the high impact homage 'Tribute' and they return with yet another respectfully rooted release.
Channelling the energies of Detroitian agenda-setters such as Inner City, Joey Beltram and Scott Grooves, CYRK celebrate the original template and ingredients that have gone on to inform every genre that's since passed. Easy to say... A dark art to master without repeating something that's already been done before. Safe to say that CYRK definitely have that art mastered...
Its deft ping-pong riff echoing through classic detuned synth tones and unrelenting beats refusing to stop even for the honeyed evocative tones of singer Christine Eusebio , 'Fantasy' is one of those tracks you'll feel you know but also understand its freshness instantly. The type of track that gets crowds grinning like Cheshire cats the second it pops on... Even though they've never heard it before. Rooted in history, coded in innovation, it's more proof that CYRK's three-headed formula is better than one.
Remix-wise both Pascal Hetzel and Gerome Sportelli remain in Detroit: Pascal looks towards the likes of Mills and UR's 'World Power Alliance' phase for inspiration with his heads-down, militant techno aesthetics while Gerome conjures up sensations of Cybotron and The Preps with his slinky, ice-edged electro adaptation. Both versions take Christine's surging, sensual vocals to new creative pastures... And they've invited you to do the same with the acapella version, too.
