Chezz / Newman / Childs & Moore - Good Things Ep

Very limited ! Only 250 pressed ! A1 - Kicking off with a tight percussive groove we have "Good Things" by Chezz. Rotterdam's rising star brings it on with this mid-tempo dancefloor killa. A worthy A-side that perfectly bridges the gap
between Disco, Boogie and Deep House.
B1 - On the flip we get a little laid back. First up - "Here With Me" by Newman. And this Bristol-based
new comer does us proud; taking some classic acoustic Soul, and giving it the dusty House treatment. The result is just "lush" (as we say in the west country ;) B2 - Finally we have "Low Key Disco" from Childs & Moore; This established producer-pianist duo bring us something a bit special. Wait for the bass... Let it soak in... then feel the keys just float on over

Matthew Brown - Matthew Brown Ep

The second offer on Public Possession is by artist Matthew Brown. We know little about this guy - he lives in Tasmania in an area known as The Great Western Tiers and is held in high regard for his live sets on the mainland. Getting the final tapes of him was quite difficult but well worth the effort. He has been an integral part of the electronic underground scene in Australia for years and the demand for a physical release was high. Finally the wait is over, Public Possession is very happy to present you the first ever 12 by Matthew Brown, who delivers three tracks, two of them probably best described as analogue electronic funk for dancefloors at peaktime. The EP is completed by the track 'Borobo' with it's incredible slowmotion groove and balearic touch. All in all we are very happy to share this music with you, as it was a about time that the music by the man Matthew Brown gets it's shine on a vinyl release. Expect more to come in the future, this is just the beginning...

Various - Gasoline 2x12"

Various

Gasoline 2x12"

2x12inchCOMEME026
CÓMEME RECORDS
11.08.2014

This double vinyl compilation is 100% dance floor approved by comemian DJs. Its tracks have been making the body mechanics work from Santiago de Chile to Cologne, from Tbilisi to Medellin, from Bucharest to Buenos Aires, from Cholula to Hollywood and back! The music was crafted by DJs from the "Inner Circle", meaning the likes of Christian S, Ana Helder, Alejandro Paz, Carisma and Djs Pareja, but also by some lovely guests we are welcoming here, for the first time:
Voxels from Lisboa, Portugal, Zombies In Miami from Aguascalientes, México, Auntie Flo from Glasgow, UK, Rous from Mendoza, Argentina, Vaskular from Santiago de Chile and Bryan Kessler from Cologne.
We start off with Auntie Flo from the label Huntleys + Palmers: Jas, a pounding slow jam featuring a rave signal that will make your speakers crackle and burn and your arms go up while your body goes down, down, down, to the rhythm... This one's followed by cologne based Bryan Kessler collaborating with Christian S (the man with the masterplan) They deliver Nebel Dance, an underground club track with shoulder shaking toms and foot stomping bass drum and bass, for those who love the silly grooves of nowadays Cologne! Switching to the next side, please welcome, again, Ana Helder, known to all hardcore comemists due to "El Groove de tu Corazón", "Beating PC" and more, this time with Gasoline a crazy teknotika uptempo gem feat. Ana singing: "I wanna smell - Gasoline! I wanna swallow - Gasoline!" On that same side of wax we got Vaskular from Santiago de Chile, with Black Jesus. Vaskular is a musician and DJ, belonging to that Santiago Underground crew of Discos Pegaos, vocals by Valesuchi.
Side C features a very special collaboration of Djs Pareja and Alejandro Paz, recorded at The District Union, Cómeme's own studio in Berlin. Alejandro's dark latin house inertia meets Pareja's psychedelic dance floor terror to shape this darkroom anthem, in which Mariano from Djs Pareja gets very explicit....
Another psychedelia momentum follows with Zombies in Miami, that gorgeous couple from Aguascalientes that travel the world on their Zombie mission, check out also their soon to be released cover version of Matias Aguayo's 'Las Cruces". Next track is a Remix done by Carisma from Buenos Aires (Cómeme 025) for Rous a young boy from Lujan, A Bailar, another of our pen drive's favorites who finally is making it into vinyl. Oh that electronic body bassline you'd like to wake up every morning with (in your parallel dark life) made it impossible to us not to appear here, and various are the moments and places where this bassline has made the cats give their bodies up to the music...
The two last tracks of Gasoline where provided by Voxels and Djs Pareja! K-Hauz by Voxels reminds us of our roots that shaped the house of Cómeme, that southern hemisphere grooves and that cutting rhythms that will make people dance in more surroundings than just the club...And we close the whole package with Si Señor, by Djs Pareja, which gives us a glance onto what the future brings...

Detroit Swindle - Boxed Out

Now A lot has changed for Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets in the past two years since they first send me a demo with their music. When we met in Amsterdam in 2011, they had just started their Detroit Swindle project and were making music just out of fun. They did not yet think of taking it to a more professional level. After some time, Elef got them to send me a few of their first tracks, which resulted in the 'Nothing Else Matters' EP together with the now 'classic' Detroit Swindle track 'Jick Rames' on it. 'Jick Rames' is truly a breakthrough track for the guys: it was something completely different at the time with its ultra slow tempo combined with Detroit/ Chicago-esque feel and hip hop attitude. Along with their well received release on Huxley's 'Saints & Sonnets', this marked the jump start of their musical career and it were these releases that marked the way the guys would take, combining the early 90's garage styles with deeper Detroit and Chicago house influences. Their music sounded so fresh and new that you could immediately pick out a Detroit Swindle track when you heard it in the clubs. It was something about their way of building breaks and especially the rhythms that had a typical 'Detroit Swindle' style with lots of shuffle and off-grid action going on. Their tremendous rise in the house scene already got them to be noted as newcomers in the 'Making a splash in 2013' section in DJ Mag and from there it just went off. They have been laying it down across the UK, Ireland and European mainland every weekend for the past 2 years, gaining much respect with both their DJ and Live sets.

Jamie Jones - Moan & Groan

Jamie Jones is back with a killer release for Crosstown Rebels. New single 'Moan & Groan' is a vintage Jones production full of bounce, quirks and sex appeal. It's joined by two remixes of 'Tonight In Tokyo' from Jamie's album of secret weapons 'Tracks From The Crypt', released last summer. Both showcasing their own sharp, signature styles, Ben Westbeech's darker alias Breach drops the deep bass while French house icons Cassius introduce epic chords and skyscraping synth lines.

Jamie Jones is renowned for his innovative music; his cross genre band, Hot Natured; and his pioneering label, Hot Creations now with the offshoot Hot Trax. Author of two solo albums for Crosstown Rebels, Jamie has also delivered a number of scene-defining anthems including 'Summertime', his remix of Green Velvet's 'Flash' and Azari & III's 'Hungry For The Power'. Plus Stunning reworks of The XX include 'Crystalised' and latest hit 'Sunset'.

With a Hot Natured album due this year on Hot Creations / FFrr / Warners, Jamie is illuminating the niche world of underground house music, most recently proven with the band's sold out debut live shows at Brixton Academy. Easily one of the most hard working DJs on the planet, Jamie's endless touring schedule includes nearly every major city and festival in the world including such spectacles as Glastonbury, Tomorrow Land, and Burning Man, as well as highly esteemed clubs like Warung, Fabric, and Womb. In addition, he holds his own Ibiza party, Paradise every summer at DC10.

V/a - Our Beat Is Still New Ü After Take

Fourth and final chapter in WPH's tribute to Belgian new beat. This time four Belgians and one German deliver their take on new beat...

The label say: 'Fourth and final chapter in our tribute to Belgian new beat. This time 4 Belgians and one German who is more Belgian than most of us bring us their rendition of new beat...

This last episode in the 'Our Beat Is Still New' series brings us the WPH heavyweights FCL & Locked Groove, both giving very different renditions of their new beat vision. FCL goes all oldskool with menacing mindless new beat vocals, Locked Groove takes it slow and deep. Lauer being a big new beat fan is all over his track, and Innershades takes his classic raw Chicago approach and turns it into a track that would have been a staple during Belgium's new beat heyday.

Jimpster - Porchlight And Rocking Chairs 2x12"

One of the UK's most established and consistent deep house producers, Jimpster, is due to drop his eagerly anticipated Porchlight And Rocking Chairs LP on 20th May 2013. His first studio album in six years sees him continue where he left off on the 2006 masterpiece Amour by taking the blueprint of House music and infusing it with an attention to detail and musicality often lacking in much of today's more disposable dance music.
As Jimpster himself admits, much of the inspiration for Porchlight And Rocking Chairs came from the countless hours spent exhausted or hungover in airport lounges on the way back from gigs. It's during this early morning never never land that he would seek solace in his ipod or start creating tracks on his laptop. Anything too challenging or abstract would be an irritation. Anything too ambient could sedate to the point of missing flights. So normally it would be the kind of lo-slung, emotive, deep shit with enough groove to get into but also just the right amount of warmth and soul to keep spirits lifted in those tiring, and often solitary hours.
On returning to his studio we see Jimpster lean heavily on his hardware synths and drum machines, rediscovering their quirks and foibles after too many years working with convenient but sometimes sterile plugins. This hands on approach runs right through tracks such as Brought To Bare, featuring the vocals of Jonatan Bäckelie, where a simple, sparse and honest quality help make this one of the LP's highlights. Hold My Hand or Rollergirl show off Jimpster's innate talent for dubbed out, late-night deep house whilst elsewhere we find more raw and bass heavy downtempo tracks such as Cracks In the Pavement and The Glowing Embers. A true journey from start to finish, the LP draws to a close with an alternate LP version of Jimpster's recent single These Times featuring Beauty Room vocalist Jinadu. Here we see the producer incorporating acoustic guitar for the first time ever on a glitchy yet beautiful reworking of this future classic, making a fitting close to a fresh and forward-looking album from a long-standing yet still completely relevant artist.

Dusky - Yoohoo / Akebono

Dusky

Yoohoo / Akebono

12inch17STEPS002
17 Steps Recordings
02.12.2014

Dusky are London based production and DJ duo Nick Harriman and Alfie Granger-Howell. Responsible for scene smashes such as 'Nobody Else', Beatport #1 'Careless' and this year's 'Love Taking Over' on their own 17 Steps label, the pair's diverse appeal has left them riding at the vanguard of the UK's house and techno renaissance, with an evolving sound that shows little sign of lingering in one place for too long.

The second release on their rising 17 Steps label, the classy and unique rave rush of 'Yoohoo' again takes their sound into new territory. Built around a distinctive vocal sample (lifted from d&b outfit Kosheen's 'Catch'), 'Yoohoo' rattles out with tough, techy bass stabs but comes alive with its nostalgic, euphoria-loaded piano house melodies that recall Chicago classics from 88, Sasha at Shelley's and Raindance at Jenkins Lane. Evoking a halcyon era with class and without cliche, 'Yoohoo' draws on the duo's deep love of classic house, rave and techno, and reconstructs it for 2014 in their unique style.

Showcasing the darker, deeper side of Dusky, the b-side 'Akebono' is a twisted, heads-down blend of house, techno and garage influences - all assembled into another inimitably Dusky production. Shot with sinister soul, dark synths and rattling bass, 'Akebono' captures a distinctly UK and distinctly Dusky sound.

Francesca Lombardo - Eyes Of Nature Ep

After her incredible Changes EP on Crosstown Rebels earlier this year, new lady of house Francesca Lombardo continues to impress this time through the Rebellion arm of the enterprise with her Eyes of Nature EP.
'Eyes' is first up and opens with a slick percussive grove characterised by lots of organic elements coalescing to paint a mesmerising, ritualistic picture. Bells, shakers and cymbals rattle and echo while deep haunting synths climb and fall to create a real sense of drama. Francesca utilises her vocal training to devastating effect intermittently throughout the track, panning her own heavily FX'd vocals across the mix further adding to the suspense.
On the flip and Julien Riachi's vocal and a tabla drum riff set the tone on 'Wander and Wonder' before an ever returning woodblock melody signals the arrival of a killer baseline which takes the track straight to the dance floor. Exquisite production skills ensure that sonically and elementally the track is constantly going somewhere, whilst Lombardo's classically trained ear ensures that she can effortlessly make perfect musical sense of all the different parts within her tracks.

Simian Mobile Disco & Bicep - Sacrifice

'Sacrifice' is the work of two duos at the top of their production games. Bicep, after their critically acclaimed recent releases on Aus Music and their own Feel My Bicep records, and SMD fresh from promoting their new 'Live' album, decamped for a few days to SMD's London studio to jam out this resulting epic.

Built around a deceptively simple, repetitive melody - as all good 4am club music should be - and laid down onto analogue tape, as well as the original two beatless versions were created. Version 1 keeps the original speed, just smearing out the melodies slightly, to make an effective DJ tool. Whereas version 2 takes things to their logical conclusion, setting the tape machine to 7.5 inches per second, and drawing the chords out into a blissed-out piece of ambient wobble.

Sacrifice will be out on 12' on SMD's own Delicacies label on the 10th of June, and out digitally on the 24th June. This is the first in a series of SMD collaborations planned for the rest of the year.

Siopis - Master Plan Ep

Siopis

Master Plan Ep

12inchRBL014
REBELLION
18.03.2013

Next up on Crosstown Rebels clandestine off-shoot label Rebellion is the dexterous and versatile producer behind latest alias, SIOPIS. Adorning the 'Master Plan' EP with a far murkier quality than previous works as Silversurfer, the SIOPIS sound is destined for the darker recesses of the club.

Comprised of three superlative cuts, the tone of the 'Master Plan' EP is set with a blend of lingering vocals, punchy basslines and moody undertones. A-side 'Master Plan' leads the way with its haunting vocals, layered over a howling bassline as the synths build with intensity.
Flip over to the B-side and it's all swagger with 'Buy Underground's' tough bassline stabs, mingling with warped synths as the track breaks down into trippy spaced out FX before a killer drop. 'House of Mouse' feat. Mz Sunday & Bootslap delivers growling sub-bass and grimy beats under nimble keys and skittish bleeps while a sinister male vocal is contested by a sweeter female voice and trippier fx perpetuates the menacing mood.
Jannis Siopis was a rather raw, dark and enigmatic lad in his early days. With a traditional Greek background in a modern German setting, a classical love affair with his clarinet and trumpet later morphed into a creative talent for break dancing, graffiti art and spinning records. Crosstown Rebels first ever record was a Silversurfer production and the label continued to nurture the talent with subsequent releases.
Now under the alias of SIOPIS, the skilled producer has shaped his beats into a groovier, house sound that has won over the Get physical imprint and agency. Greeted as 'one of the labels most exciting young guns' SIOPIS is more than an appropriate fit for Rebellion's more eccentric tribal sensibility.

Trus'me - Remixes Ep 3

The third and final part of Prime Numbers Trus'me remix series.
Once again Berlin is in the house with Berghain master Ben Klock taking the Trus'me classic 'W.A.R Dub' into deep & dark dancefloor territory.
In his inimitable style all is condensed into a tightly worked & clinical production. The groove is meticulously worked into making for some hypnotic techno.
Klock's compadre & Panorama Bar resident Ryan Elliot takes on 'Nards', stripping back its parts to an insistent & organic piece that that builds to the end.
Vakula completes the set with a tough reworking of 'Need A Job'. Unremitting acid moves bend around a heavyweight break with increasing intensity.

Joseph Capriati - Self Portrait

There's no room to argue, Joseph Capriati has enjoyed his finest year to date and his escalation as one the principle profiles in techno knows no boundaries. The Napoli-born firebrand has just completed a stunning season in Ibiza as a resident of Marco Carola's Music On at Amnesia. Anyone who caught him play the main room this season will agree - his special ability to combine an infectious stage presence, with razor sharp DJ skills draws techno fans to dancefloor like bees to a honey pot. No wonder island legend Carola's handpicked him to perform on 8 separate occasions, more than any other artist this season. Combine this momentum with an outstanding 2013 that already saw him headline his first coast-to-coast tour of the US, play a historic 12 hour set at the Metropolis in Napoli, plus headline every major techno festival on the planet, the time couldn't be better for Capriati to unleash 'Self Portrait', his sophomore LP. Already ingrained in the consciousness of techno lovers this year thanks to 'Fratello' and 'Awake' the pair of searing dancefloor slayers that were released in June as the album's first singles, 'Self Portrait' goes deeper than the club stormers the Italian is famed for. Over 11 future-facing tracks, Capriati displays his deft production skill to supersede his reputation for bodyslamming dancefloors. Tracks such as 'Electrolytic', the album's atmospheric opener evokes mood with a barrage of steely synths, gritty drums and industrial beats, while 'Self Portrait', the typically reflective album title track is an understated ambient gem led by warm trickles of melody that pairs nicely with 'Naked' which exhibits the producer's deft skills for moulding sparse stripped back minimal that kicks along with cheeky vox and shuffling percussion. He further reinforces his ability to create addictive club rollers with the quirky, squiggly groover 'Easy Come Easy Go', while the masterful 'Basic Elements', chugs along with rattling industrial percussion before giving way to a sublime wall of melody that's just the kind of genius fare that gets his diehard fans raising Italian flags inscribed with 'JOSEPH CAPRIATI KING OF TECHNO' regularly at this gig. And with an album this good, who are we to argue

Kele Okereke - Candy Flip (incl. Fcl Remix)

Back on Crosstown Rebels after the barnstorming 'Heartbreaker' EP at the end of last year, Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke once again shows he's a dancer at heart and a truly versatile beat maker. Kicking off with another killer A-side 'Candy Flip', Kele builds an infectious track as he works a dirty low bassline with his own deep gravelly vocals. 'The New Feel' follows on with dark bass stabs making way for a bouncing groove, haunting chords, and filtered vox with an anthemic feel. FCL's remix treatment gives a classic, uplifting dimension to 'Candy Flip' while final original 'Come To Me' is a master class in raw, bass heavy grooves with a modern touch and fresh vocals from Jenny Bastet.

From the propulsive rhythm sections of Bloc Party's Platinum-selling debut album 'Silent Alarm' to guest vocals for artists like The Chemical Brothers, dance music has always been the underlying influence for Kele Okereke. Having spent ten years making records in studios working with some of the greatest producers in the world, Kele is now launching his solo assault on house music and leaving a distinctive mark in the process on new home label Crosstown Rebels.

With the 'Heartbreaker EP' gaining critical acclaim across the board and 'Candy Flip' about to win over yet more dancefloors, Kele's new sound is no flash in the pan. There are more EPs in the pipeline for Crosstown as well as DJ dates all over the world, so watch this space.

FCL is the Belgian powerhouse production duo comprised of Red D, owner of We Play House, and young DJ/producer extraordinaire San Soda. Both individually and together they have had a major impact on dance music in the last few years, notably with their ubiquitous version of E.S.P's 'It's You' - a sell-out vinyl on We Play House reaching cult status and later seeing a digital release on Defected due to popular demand.
