House Novedades
Alex from Tokyo presents new label world famous debut release from Tokyo Black Star - Edo Express EP out in October, 2015
Paris-born, Tokyo-raised, New York-based international eclectic French DJ, music producer and sound designer Alex from Tokyo is very excited to announce the October 2015 launch of his record label 'world famous" with a new Tokyo Black Star EP (the first release in three years)!
The four different straight up house music club tracks here on the "Edo Express EP" showcase Alex from Tokyo's versatile and funky DJ style and come from a very special fun jam session that took place in January 2015 at Isao's Tokyo Black Star and phonon studio with the help of their great musician/analog equipment otaku friend Kenichi Takagi leading to Kenichi san officially becoming the third Tokyo Black Star member, bringing along some of his favorite old, new and handmade (modular) synths into the mix.
The stunning artwork for the release is done by long-time collaborator the very talented New York based Japanese artist Tomokazu Matsuyama, who has been creating the Tokyo Black Star visual identity since their first release on Innversions in 2005.
Working in harmony with music partner and sound/mastering engineer Isao Kumano in Tokyo, Alex from Tokyo formed Tokyo Black Star in 2000 while remixing Big Moses feat. Jan'elle's house classic "For you" for Kerri Chandler's label Bassmental records. Since then Tokyo Black Star has released five EPs including the first-ever release on high-profile Berlin label Innversions (the "Psyche Dance EP," 2005) and their full length debut album 'Black Ships' (April 2009, also on Innervisions), an EP on DJ Deep's Deeply Rooted House label and remixes for artists like Tony Allen (P-Vine records Japan, 1999), Carl Craig (Psyche 'Neurotic Behavior' on Planet E, 2011), Phenomenal Handclap Band (Tummy Touch Records, 2013), Bing Ji Ling (Lovemonk), and Kuniyuki (mule music), and among others.
Always looking for new challenges and sonic adventures, in the summer of 2010 the Tokyo Black Star duo were joined by top Japanese audio professionals at Isao's studio in Tokyo, leading to the creation of a new 'revolutionary' audio brand called phonon , which makes exceptional pro-audio equipment for studio and DJ use.
Tokyo Black Star's last release, in 2013, was a special musical contribution called "X" for a unique celebratory 10th anniversary compilation for Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas fashion brand Y-3. Alex from Tokyo co-directed the exclusive compilation
world famous will be presenting a wide range of dance floor and eclectic music by Tokyo Black Star, Alex from Tokyo's collaborative projects with other artists and his affiliated japanese and international connections! Mastering for all releases will be done by Isao Kumano.
"Land Of Confusion" is one of the most seminal Chicago Acid House records.
Originally released in 1987 on Bam Bam's Westbrook imprint and produced by the legendary Armando Gallop it marked the start of a recording career that would make him a household name among House and Techno aficionados. To say "Land Of Confusion" is raw is an understatement, it consists of a handful of elements but it's impact when played is incendiary. Armando's TB-303 acid lines sound possessed and unruly while the primitive drum machine patterns stagger around the track giving it a feeling of out of control urgency, a truly Lo-fi piece of crazy Chicago acid that was popular with many DJ's in Chicago (Including Ron Hardy at the Muzic Box) and around the world and continues to be influential today. An essential record for any discerning House or Techno fan.
This official re-issue 12" features all 3 original versions of "Land Of Confusion" and the original Westbrook label art. All tracks have been re-mastered and fully licensed in conjunction with Bam Bam / Westbrook Records, Chicago USA.

The next release on Diagonal comes from Streetwalker, the duo of Beau Wanzer and Elon Katz.
Titled Ooze, it's a shadowy, mechanistic dancefloor crusher, originally released as a limited
cassette single on the Catholic Tapes label in 2011. The 12' release for Diagonal is the first time this
sinister creature has been pressed to vinyl, now also accompanied by a remix from Silent Servant.
Following on from recent Diagonal album releases from Death Comet Crew and Russell Haswell, the Ooze 12' marks Streetwalker's first release since 2013's Future Fusion, their acclaimed, mind bending debut album of acid jams and scorched post-punk, released through the Minimal Wave-affiliated Cititrax label. Outside of Streetwalker, both members of the duo are known for their thrillingly brusque, exploratory transmissions: Katz is the mind behind White Car, while Wanzer has released music through Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S, both solo and with Mutant Beat Dance.Recorded, processed and overdubbed using an arsenal of hardware, including a rare E-mu modularsystem and a home-built light-sensitive synthesiser, it builds across twelve minutes from woody drums and spooked whispers into a disorienting, writhing mass of snakelike acid lines and corrosive noise. For his Silent Servant remix, Juan Mendez keep the atmosphere of the original intact — all grubby, soot-caked textures and a flat thud of a four-four rhythm — but sets it amid delicate drifts of melody, finding brief flashes of warmth amid the shade.

For the third release on De:tuned we proudly present The Kosmik Kommando AKA Mike Dred. Mike hardly needs an introduction; considered as one of the masters of the Roland TB-303 Mike has been releasing records under various aliases since the early 90s. He has recorded for high profile labels such as R&S and Rephlex as well as his own Machine Codes label. Together, with Aphex Twin, Mike was behind the Universal Indicator releases which are among the most collectible and sought after records in techno history.
De:tuned has worked closely with Mike to develop an 8 track project that gives props to the American Psychologist Timothy Leary and his proposed theory of 'The Eight-Circuit Model of Consciousness'. This model describes 8 circuits of information that operate within the human nervous system. Each circuit refers to a different sphere of activity, enhanced by experimentation with a particular substance. Each circuit also represents a higher stage of evolution than the one before it and the higher the circuit, the fewer the people have activated it as the higher four circuits exist for those who migrate to outer space and live extraterrestrially.
The 8 Models are applied to the track titles that present a varied collection integrating acid house, techno, electro and rave culture.
3 of the tracks on offer here were written exclusively for Mike's live performance at the De:tuned 'Meeting of Minds' event in June 2012, which was Mike's first full live show in 3 years.
This 8 track project will be available on limited 180 gr white double vinyl with label and sleeve artwork by Mike himself. Stay Tuned!

Next up on Titanic City is Stephen Lopkin, serving up five new cuts on The Strategic Reserve EP Stephen is a massive talent and has really turned heads over the last couple of years with releases on M>O>S, Bokhari Records, and RAW Tools. Needles to say we're delighted to have Lopkin on board. Stephen makes his mark with a release firmly influenced by his passion for Detroit and Chicago's House and Techno scenes. It's a release layered with strings, soaring pads and an abundance of hats and snares.. everything we love at Titanic City.
There's a rough and raw DIY feel to this music that makes it jump out of the speakers and arrest your attention, as is always the case with Titanic City. Stand up pay attention.

Alden Tyrell hooked up with Mike Dunn for some new work!. A golden combination which already worked out great as we learned from the heavy remix Tyrell did for the Murphy Jax & Mike Dunn collaboration (Its The Music - Cat# CJFD06). Tyrell always jamming and playing around with his synths had some tracks inspired by early Mike Dunn songs. So the obvious happened... the hooked up for some appropiate vocals and here it is....''Touch The Sky''! A peak time acid monster with Mike's vocal chant in the style of his classic MD3 projects. Gerd is on remix duty here and delivers a killer remix with a more traditional Chicago groove and build up. Clone head honcho Serge had some studio time with Tyrell for a dub mix. The Serge & Tyrell dub mix turned out a bit wild and became a classic piece of piano and dx bass driven Chicago house music with stuttering vocal samples and a acidic synth line. Another strong Clone Jack For Daze!!

Snuffo (Snuff Crew) and Alienata unite as Kat Channel for aDepth audio. The Beauty of Sadness EP brings an emotional mixture of classic Chicago house and fine Detroit techno.
Volksfreude delivers a fine remix of Beauty of Sadness, with a subtle hint to Dan Curtinís earlier works.
Vinyl release comes in quality packaging and full color vinyl in limited quantities.
With "Closer" Masterton debuts on Blackfoxmusic's 19th release (BFM019). "Closer" is a warm track with a deep groove and beautiful melodies. It relates to living in a long distance elationship and overcoming a lack of proximity. Robert Babicz (Babiczstyle, Systematic, Bedrock Records) created an incredible remix. He used lots of the original melodies, combined them with new elements, added rolling drums and a thick bassline to give the
track the extra drive. His remix became a constant part of his live sets and was debuted with great response at Grelle Forelle (Vienna) and Ritter Butzke (Berlin). Channel X (Stil vor Talent) remixed "Closer" into a pretty cool and clubby deep house track. You can feel their Berlin origin when listening to the groovy bassline with variations of the melody. Finally the breaks capture the mood of the dissonant sounds from the original track. Supported and played by: Dj T / Danny Howells / Solomun / Âme / Martin Böttcher / Dj Felipe / Slam / Tony Rohr / Sasha / Robert Grant...Reviews: Dj Mag / De:Bug / Faze / Resident Advisor / Ibiza Voice...

Debut release represents raw, emotive expressions that work both on large systems or on a solitary midnight drive. With tinges of acid, dub and classic gear sounds, the Sweaty Fingers EP perfectly frames the artist's and our label's musical interpretations. The remix by Bostonian John Barera provides a super heady 909 stomper while keeping the atmospheric elements of the original.
About the label
The bi-product of collective experiences in clubs, dusty basements, and on public transportation, Chem Club Records is a label showcasing the parallel relationship between introverted House/Techno and dance floor chaos. Greatly influenced by time spent roaming parties in New Jersey, Amsterdam, Brooklyn and the Bay Area, Chem Club holds no allegiance to one place as we try to capture the meaning of the modern wandering Techno nomad and the sounds that fill their heads.
About the artist
Bosnian born, and having moved to the US as a teenager, Maroje T is now a Brooklyn based artist pushing hardware driven music from his Greenpoint, Brooklyn studio. Shaped by early Metal before stepping into Techno, he is 1/3 of the Remedy crew hosting various events around town for years. His current productions represents raw, emotive expressions that work both on large systems or on a solitary midnight drive. With tinges of acid, dub and classic gear sounds, the Sweaty Fingers EP perfectly frames the artist's and our label's musical interpretations. The remix by Bostonian John Barera provides a super heady 909 stomper while keeping the atmospheric elements of the original.

Jamal Moss, aka Hieroglyphic Being, returns for a new second album on Soul Jazz Records, after last year's debut 'The Acid Documents', this time under the name Africans with Mainframes.
Hieroglyphic Being and fellow Chicago producer Noleian Reusse have been releasing music under the name Africans with Mainframes for over 15 years now, ever since their debut on Hieroglyphic Being's own Mathematics Recordings label in 2005. 'K.M.T.' is the debut album from the group, a collage of apocalyptic Chicago acid meets industrial and transcendental post-house machine funk. Both intense and unique, the album of forward-thinking, experimental, boundary-pushing Afro-futurist electronic music shows why Hieroglyphic Being is regarded as one of the most serious purveyors of experimental black music today. You can't stop the prophet!
Born and based in Chicago, Moss's music embodies two of the cultural foundation blocks of the city's musical lineage, that of Chicago's original Acid House sound (c. 1986), that of Frankie Knuckles, Phuture, Marshall Jefferson et al, alongside a rigorous experimental sound searching that taps into the cosmic musical lineage of pioneering artist Sun Ra whose Arkestra landed and was based in the city from 1946-61.
Available as both a very limited 1000 double-LP and 1000- tip-on hard Japanese card style CD, including cover art by Paolo Parisi (the Italian designer of John Coltrane graphic novel and our own Acid & Mysterons releases).

Our next big release at Bad Barbie, going out on digital and 12 inch, comes by the hand of Aldo Cadiz itself, but this time partnered with Kareem Cali. These two made a fantastic three track ep called Monita EP. The first track Monita presents a solid base created with a classic tech style and an extremely groovy bass line. Full of small arrangements and a crazy vocal line, this tracks its perfect for any club dj. The second track Bonita, is the one with the more old school vibe, from the bass line to the main acid synth, which goes evolving softly with a filter during the track to generate the needed tension. All this with a strong tech groove to follow the step of this solid ambience created by the acid synths. The last track Moni, also has many techno and acid elements presents. We can perceive the techno soul mainly on the arrangement of the hi-hats and bass line, but the acid synth in triplet at the backend is what generates the crazy vibe and almost hypnotic feeling during the track, playing around with the volume of it. Definitely a fantastic release to add to any collection.

A rad split LP by The Friend (whose debut on the label was on DARK ACID V, is the founder and owner of How to Kill Detroit , as well as releasing great tunes under different names for labels like R&S apollo/ illian tapes/stylss/juke trax) and L/F/D/M (who killed it on his solo Clan Destine EP aswell as with releases on Optimo/CGI and Estactic, at the same time as releasing killer cuts with Dom ex from Factory Floor as Green Gums and Bronze Teeth)...FUCK SUNSETS and BALEARIC FISTING for all...
The Friend brings us 4 tracks of sludge techno straight from the source in Detroit, from the creeped out stylings of ROOM(S), the bleeped out techno of STAR, the menacing groove of BENT and pure bass with STRIPPING.
L/F/D/M (loves flacid disco muscle) drops 4 varied tracks for this, from the full on raging acid techno of BELTON, the intricate drones of DROME V II, creepy sex loops on 88 and the degraded synths of UNTRUTHS.

"Play It Say It is the name given to Seth Troxler's most 'no frills' label. The aim to outlet tried and tested bombs built strictly for the dancefloor and so far it's given us 12's from the likes of Leonardo Gonnelli, Steve Lawler, Butch and Clarian. Now - Seth readies the next installment on the label: 'The Acid' EP which comes as a sampler including tracks from returning artist The Mekanism as well as Ataxia and Giacomo & Michelangelo .
The Mekanism kicks things off with 'Lazy Night'. Having last appeared on Play It Say It in 2015 with his 'Acid Love' EP - he makes a vibrant return and drives a circling acid line through panned percussive flutters ahead of a manic breakdown guaranteed to send the floor into a frenzy.
The Detroit based Connaisseur, Thoughtless and Leftroom affiliates Ataxia then follow up with 'Afternoon Acid' - an urgent electro-tinged track packed with armoured drums and growling bass tones.
Giacomo & Michelangelo then rolls out 'Acid Tree' - a burning acid groove rife with more extended breakdowns and tight drum shuffles that make a fine addition to the record and cap off another certified coup for Play It Say It".

Shipwrec are opening 2016 with some acid cheer. Taking that iconic silver box and getting something new out of its aging circuitry is never easy, but with musical imagination it can be done. Bintus (Milo Smee) has been delivering inspired 303 bitterness for some while on his own Power Vacuum imprint. A powerhouse in electronics for decades, Smee has released as Kruton and Binary Chaffinch on a glut of labels like Dissident and Pure Plastic. He opens his Shipwrec account with Acid Shores. Low and levelled the tough mechanics of the title piece will leave speakers needing a specialist. Rasping rhythms follow as the coarse and corrupted form of "S.E.G." takes hold. Born somewhere between new beat and techno the track is emblematic of Bitnus' skill, skills fully on show for the final stomp. Twisting and writhing "Live Section #1" spits venom. Bass lines are blunted as fangs are bared in this fourteen minute epic of morphing serpentine synth chicanery.

In 1997 the Vienna, Austria based live act Syncmode was founded and formed by Bernd Rausch & Sascha Sadat Guscheh. Their first 2 EPs were self released between 2001-2003 and continue to play an important role in their reclusive production ethic. They continue collaborations with a close knit operation between 24seven and Breakin Stevens, which has directly triggered them to surpass the common duo and develop into a collective of changing members, which include the latest fixed members Christof Winkler and Sonny Blake. This EP is stripped down to a mix of live synthesis and heady synth-sync and machine drum trickery as it touches on past and future electronic music production techniques and solidifies these four tracks on a solid 12 Vinyl. Very Rare and limited! Due-Out-In-Summer-2015!

Finally Repressed!
A Series Of Shocks" is the second solo album from accomplished Berlin based producer Tobias Freund.
Continuing his exploration into "non-standard" electronic music, and expanding on the rich sound palette charted in his first LP, "Leaning Over Backwards" (2011, Ostgut Ton), this new chapter presents 10 versatile tracks taking us ever further into the purist, evolving sonic world of Tobias. A warm wash of synthetics begins it all with opener "Entire", a lush synthesiser sequence with additional contributions from NSI.'s Max Loderbauer, the track casually flaunts the sheer depth of sound and sense of space awaiting the listener. Varied, playfully contrasting moods then follow, with great finesse and an ever-present attention to detail. Freund's live shows, where the use of either the Roland TR-808 or TR-909 has become an integral part, have clearly played a role in the development of the Tobias. sound manifesto, and a large proportion of "A Series Of Shocks" has the 4/4 structure at its "Heartbeat" - indeed track two takes this as its namesake, in a submerged and tense exercise. Exceptions to that steady throb are also a joy to be found, with the frenetic techno syncopations of "Testcard" offering an early moment of broken-beat hypnosis, and later excursions into breaks like the euphoric "Cursor Item Only" or the brash dub of "If" prove there are indeed complex systems at work. Reaching for more energetic zones, fans of classic Tobias. jams like "Street Knowledge" or "Dial" will be pleased to find several well-honed and on-target club tracks, like the textural "Instant", "He Said", or the more meditative, but no less visceral "Ya Po". Snaking, arpeggiated synth patterns are Freund's go-to tool to build paranoid, yet at once funky and complex moments of mystery. Repeat listening will reward the listener by unearthing even more subtleties beneath these undulating elements. For an album produced largely with machines, the end result is in fact anything but rigid; a multitude of dynamics breathe life into every track. Synth elements swim in tension, build and recede with grace, and intertwine themselves into oblivion. Warm, natural drums state their presence, but do not overpower, letting the sum of the parts create the power, rather than merely the kick alone. The resonant sting of "The Scheme of Things", matched with its smooth undertones illustrates this perfectly.
With clarity of sound and a conscious mind to allow each element its place, Tobias. has found a maturity and a true art in controlling the lively dance of the constituent parts. A master at the mix-down, everything gels; nothing is left in-concluded. This sense of togetherness continues until the very final bars of "Fast Null" leaving us in a suspended moment of wonder, and appreciation.
What becomes apparent is that this album carries not only sixty-one and a half minutes of inventive contemporary electronic music, but also decades of experience, knowledge and passion for an artform that can only grow through the work of activists such as Tobias Freund.

MODERNISTA make a very welcome return after dropping their now classic debut 12 on us last year The architect of that raw late 80's machine music homage, Paul Bennett is back in charge here One of Paul's formative influences during his youth was the music made by the first wave of techno producers from Detroit. This release attempts to bring back some of the drama and pure funk of that sound. Electronic music for the head, heart and feet. Immaculately programmed Maydayesque drum machines, emotive & expansive pitch bent synths, thundering low frequencies and clanks galore. This is a supercharged rewiring of the Detroit blueprint in three startlingly well executed flavours Maintaining their commitment to the highest available quality, not only have the label drafted in the formidable sonics of Linkwood studios in Edinburgh, they've also engaged the peerless FST @ Dubplates & Mastering in Berlin to handle Mastering. This and a beautifully designed sleeve add up to a 'must have' for any serious fan of Modernist music

Till von Sein and Tigerskin are back with another EP full of funky dope twisted House Jamz. A perfect combination again of Tigerskin's tight production skills and Till's extraordinaire sample madness and funky arrangements. All four EP tracks reflect their love for soul joints and hip hop beats and breaks. Apart from the precise sampling going on here most parts were played and recorded live in Tigerskin's studio as are the rhodes keys and guitar parts topped off with analogue 909 and 808 beats only. Nothing but Cool Summer Jamz on this fine Record!

Wake Up! records is proud to announce Rise and Fall, the debut EP by Ian Oakley, a new talent from Toronto. Skewing acid-tinged house with languid, lopsided grooves,Rise and Fall weaves a mix of dubbed-out elements into a unique, intuitive whole. 'Thumbs' evokes a liminal space perfectly suited for late night cruises and hypnotized foors. 'Rise and Fall' stays true to its name, a slippery bassline ebbing and fowing against a elegantly mellow beat. On the B-side, 'Bug Jam' indulges Oakley's electro side, while label co-owner Benjamin Brunn remixes 'Rise and Fall,' reimagining the original as a spacious, kosmiche slow burner. Rise and Fall is a confdent debut, as potent in headphones as on the decks and a welcome edition to the growing Wake Up! catalogue.

"Rock The Nation" is an ultra rare, obscure proto-House, Electro Rap cut from the very first wave of Chicago House, produced by Matt Warren and boasting a mix from legendary Hot Mix 5 DJ Kenny "Jammin" Jason. Released in 1985, it's staccato drum machine rhythms, boastful raps and loopy synth sounds touch on a cross section of musical influences that would have been the norm in Chicago at the time, traces of Kraftwerk, Italo Disco, Freestyle, Cybotron, Afrika Bambaataa and more are all present.
Released on the ultra small Alwan label, "Rock The Nation" is the perfect example of less is more, a raw bedroom jam that booms out of your speakers, tough beats paired with tough lyrical delivery. This rarity will appeal to House heads, Hip Hop fanatics, Italo freaks and Electro enthusiasts, a solid old school nugget that has never been re-issued or re-mastered in the 28 years since it's original release... Until now!
This release has been re-issued & re-mastered in conjunction with Alwan / Trax Records and features the original 1985 Alwan label artwork.

Those who have been following the Cosmology series from its inception will no doubt be familiar with the ad hoc release schedule and will perhaps have grown accustomed to the diverse range of styles that their ep's encompass. Each one has trodden a different path in the pursuit of updating pivotal dancefloor memories and Cosmology volume four is the most ambitious reworking to date. The choice for this instalment's source material is a topical one as the influence here comes from Herman Sonny Blount, better known as the Free Jazz pioneer Sun Ra; this year has seen various celebrations to mark what would have been his 100th Birthday.
The poet & philosopher 's time on this planet was spent largely musing life in outer Space, fighting for better civil rights all whilst building a staggering catalogue of forward thinking music inspired by his radical ideas and a willingness to believe in the infinite possibilities for creating a better world to live in. He is credited as the inspiration behind the AACM (Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians) and BAG (Black Artists Group), both groups formed separately during the 60's in Chicago and St Louis to increase awareness and opportunities for creative black artists of the day.
Sun Ra was also one of the very first artists to see the importance of controlling the rights to his own music and his legacy lived on many decades later, loosely shaping the sound and mind-set of the early Detroit techno movement. If you recall that volume 3 focused on political firebrands The Last Poets, you will see that subjects that hold interest for the Cosmologist use their music to convey a particular world view, and who deserve acclaim not only for the body of work they created, but equally for the battles they fought beyond the confines of the studio walls.
The Cosmos and Moog loving Sun Ra, the original Cosmologist in every sense was so far ahead of his time but his spirit is fully reincarnated in Future Space. This reshaping stretches the bounds of what could be classed as an edit, but the Sun Ra ethos can be found indelibly embedded between the groove. The start point for this project was some snatched vocals and the saxophone from the 1972 opus, 'Space is the Place'.
The sax riff was originally recorded in a Quintuple (an unusual 5/4 meter, which anyone familiar with Sun Ra will attest that his chaotic band leading makes the edit process nigh on impossible). Ever up for the challenge, Laurie somehow managed to cajole this into a more friendly 4/4 time signature, which forms the off kilter and strangely hypnotic bassline that underpins the track, leaving just the faintest whisper of the original intact. This mid tempo burner increases the intensity as it progresses, taking its time to wrap itself round you, into your mind and once this haunting melody gets you, you stay got. Left of field adventurers will have fun trying testing their crowd with this, and figuring out what to file it under.
Flip it over and we return to more familiar soulful surroundings, albeit with a notably different sphere of influence and approach from the A side. This too retains that trademark Cosmologist otherworld spaciness and crate diggers and modern soul aficionados will identify the lush, swirling disko gem from Flowers, a hard to come by rarity, entitled For Real. Oozing soul from the opening bar, we have a track where very little reconstruction work was needed, so instead a nuanced yet restrained alteration is employed which retains all the class, and gives it a respectful re-calibration, opening it to a slightly wider range of DJ's to program.
This was recorded during the Christmas break of 2013, but sat in the can for almost a year awaiting another track to pair it up with. Two wildly contrasting edits that will add something to the ongoing what is a remix/ edit debate, this double header will be the perfect storm to bring in the new-year and comes beautifully presented on 180g heavyweight vinyl, with black inner and a spined manila sleeve.

we are very happy to announce the first single cut from the long awaited new album of gonno.
gonno is brightest hope of japanese underground house&techno scene.
he has released from international feel, beats in space and name a few and his "acdise#2" on international feel have been supported from laurent garnier, james holden, francois kevorkian, todd terje.
This release was born of a cross country trip with an 808 drum machine by Manchester and Sankey's Soap residents Jozef K and Winter Son as they join Perseus Traxx to hammer electricity out of machines With it's rimshots and claps and other transistor rhythms reverberating across vast distances of space, side A is stripped back and deep from the outset, pushing forward as scattered tones, arpeggiations and djointed voices leave their trails vanishing from perception. Side B tightens up from the previous reverbs and throws acid into the mix, as the two join Perseus Traxx and the sound becomes more raw and urgent as the three of them jam on their chosen machines.

It's been two years since Tagwell Woods first appeared on W.T. Records. His rich and refreshingly unique techno style caught the ears of the faithful. Finally, finally, the Londoner is back on vinyl with six pieces of his original brand of machine music. And the wait is worth it. Tracks like "Christmas" and "Training" pulsate with feeling. Others like "Rabbit Society" and "Chance" build on that emotion. Crisp percussion and heartening strings are weaved as lush moments and textures unfurl. The 12" is incredibly deep and flooded with sentiment. But don't be mistaken into thinking Tagwell Woods deals in weight, instead it's his lightness of touch that sings. "Tied Waves" is fragile and delicate, whispering before blossoming into being. The finale, the beautifully uplifting "Velocity", has that same deftness. Mecca defies classification. Electronica. Techno. House. Acid. All are lovingly melted together to produce an absorbing and soulful second release, a release which is testament to the talent of this fledgling musician. Limited to 300 copies, 180 gr vinyl.

Swinging from the chandelier and setting fire to the feast, our original raison d'etre is back to raise merry hell and we couldn't be happier as accessories to the crime. Ark was one of the biggest influences on Circus Company when it first formed from the freakier corners of the Paris scene, and since day one he has been a guiding force in maintaining an uncompromising attitude towards house and techno in all its most flamboyant forms. It has been some time since the Mr. Full Destructor graced our label, but he comes to us on a wave of productivity that has seen recent singles for Versatile and Thema boast developed studio skills clashing with the same punk spirit that has always forced Ark to stand on his own for the safety of the other kids on the dancefloor. On this new EP, Guillaume Berroyer has never sounded so urgent, so demanding, and yet so in control of his creative powers. 'Hall Of Confusion' is a brutal call to arms that channels rolling breakbeat badness into a nerve-jangling alarm while the samples come flying thick and fast throughout the jam. As if to complete twist with your fragile state of mind, the track's successor 'Tirés Par Les Chevaux' employs a horse to drag you by the hair back into some refined beat-head shit (as La Funk Mob would say), calling to mind some of those early downtempo interludes you would find on Brif Records but still played out like a psychedelic doodle pad of ideas and samples. Never afraid to wave two irreverent fingers at the electronic music establishment (with the utmost respect behind it of course), 'Troll Of Detroit' comes to life on some romantic Motor City strings before mutating into a bastard child of the early days of the Belleville Three, still sounding inimitably like Ark.

There are some records that are not created only for the digital market, and this new Vinyl release on Extravaganza contains a selection of the 4 best tracks in our first year of activity!! Expect to hear music from the hands of Luna City Express & SIS / Julian Perez & Loquace / our label boss Taster Peter and finally the mighty Seph from Argentina!!! This release is GOLD.
It's with great pleasure that we offer up our next release from Dez Williams. One of our favourite producers of recent years through releases on standout UK labels like SCSI-AV, Acruacree, Ai and many others, we had noticed an absence of new 12"s since his storming doublepack on Patrick Pulsinger's Cheap imprint in 2008. So to put things right, here's an end to the Dez Williams vinyl drought - 4 tracks of bonafide Holyhead magic to rock the floor.
Starting with the melting frequencies of 'Underground Persistent', acid is in control. Like an Emmanuel Top and Kosmik Messenger track if they'd ever collaborated, this combines swingy 808 drums and masterful Detroit strings to a searing acid-line that keeps going and going. Switching things into more straight-ahead acid territory on A2, 'Untitledacid 6' has pretty much one intention and that's to jack hard. Perhaps one of Dez's heaviest techno tracks to date, it's a perfect snapshot of many hedonistic nights spent at The Orbit throughout his formative techno years.
'Freedom' on the flip is a dense techno workout that joins a strong looped vocal and distorted percussion to swamping sound fx, in a rough but funky way. This time an expert pad progression brings the track to an unexpected but fitting finale. Finally, and showing what a complete supremo he is where dark floor-friendly electro is concerned, Dez turns in a blistering cut of sci-fi electro with 'Courtesy Call'. We could have made a number of records with the amount of great electro tracks that Dez does, but in this case we just picked our favourite of the bunch.

Little do people know that Coober Pedy is an opal rich town buried deep within the red and arid outback of South Australia. Lewie Day (aka Tornado Wallace) and Tom Moore may be from Melbourne, but the duo make up the Coober Pedy University Band, coining the term "Krautback" to describe this Moon Plain EP. Drawing upon italo synths and mid-tempo Balearica as inspiration, the first release comes in 10" form via Soft Rocks' Kinfolk label. The reverb washed Australian crooner Chet Faker appears on the title track "Moon Plain" alongside heavy struck piano chords, while "Sentenced Beyond The Seas" is a flow of groggy atmospheres and downtempo beats. "Oblong" is the the EPs stand out italo track with short bass arpeggios a highlight, while Soft Rocks "Acperience" mix of "Moon Plain" takes on an acidic and space western theme.

M A N I K returns to Ovum with In Walks Bourbon! A long-standing veteran of Josh Wink's Ovum imprint, the 'In Walks Bourbon' EP marks MANIK's fifth offering to the label and maintains the high quality we've come to expect from an artist who is comfortably at the top of his game right now. The EP consists of a trio of raw, chunky, house-influenced cuts which show M A N I K diving back in to the underground sounds of his New York roots with a taste of Chicago. The A side track 'Wink KD' lures the listener in with its catchy groove and hypnotic vocal sample. The breakdown sees the track take a turn as Chris introduces and infectious acid bassline, perhaps an ode to label owner Josh Wink. On the B side we find the title track 'In Walks Bourbon' Chris smooths things out here, coming with a more head bobbing groove. Don't let that fool you as the track builds and builds with a rolling bass coming in that takes the track into overdrive. The EP closes on the jacking 'House Cut 2, Chris keeps the energy up with catchy synth stabs and various vocal samples. The snappy percussion keeps the track driving leading to a frenetic build.. An perfect finish to an extremely versatile EP; there's undoubtedly something for everyone in this package.

Chaotic, acidic jack tracks are the order of the day here, Dancer aka Sidney Winters, dropped this obscure bomb on Trax in the peak year of 1987. Both sides are mixed by the late, great Frankie Knuckles and have all the trademarks of his touch; tough drum machines, Italo inspired melodies and thundering bass-lines. These monster tracks sound absolutely massive and will surely do damage when dropped today.
"Am A Dog" is the A-side and is the more melodic of the two cuts, featuring triggered dog-like vocal stabs, epic, soaring synths and a repeated voice floating in and out of the mix, while on the B-side the descriptively titled "Boom Boom" does exactly that, a descending, aggressive acid line drives the track with some reverbed-out drums and a disjointed female voice repeating "Boom boom goes my heart", deep, dark and heavy!
Both tracks have been re-mastered and re-pressed for the very first time since their original release in 1987 in conjunction with Trax Records, and have been made available again with original label artwork. Essential!
