Balearic maestro Max Essa joins the dots seamlessly between the ambient imaginings of Sakamoto, the Krautrock rhythms of Neu and the beach pop of Chris Rea , while making them all dance together like waves on the beach.
This is some of his very best work to date and demonstrates a producer at home at the controls and a real musician with a vision.

Throne of Blood has been on a rampage of late. From our acclaimed ambient compilation Moon Rock Volume One the the End Scene LP from Jokers of the Scene and the debut single from The Rapture's Vito & Druzzi, we are on a musical mission and there's so much more in store.
While many labels take it easy during the summer, lounging by the pool and getting a tan, we're doubling down with the soundtrack to a heavy night bathed only in strobe lights. For our latest release, the aptly named 'Freaks'/'Yeah' EP we've recruited UK legend Richard Norris to lead our latest foray into the darkest and sweatiest corners of the weekend
Best known for his contributions to storied projects like Beyond the Wizard's Sleeve (with Erol Alkan) and the Grid (with Dave Ball), to say nothing of his cosmic disco project, The Time and Space Machine, Norris here is sailing alias-free for the very first time.
As efficient as they are simple, the aptly named 'Freaks' and 'Yeah' are to the point, post midnight analog jams, what Norris calls basement filth. Three superb remixes complete the EP: The Hardway Bros make their second appearance on TOB with a storming version of 'Freaks,' dragging the original into Belgian new beat territory. Boot & Tax's Brioski also reworks 'Yeah' into a shuddering polyrhythmic chugger. Rounding out the EP is one of our all time favorites, the one-and-only Ivan Smagghe, who turns in a mind-bending 8 minute version of 'Freaks' that trades much of Norris's signature filth for 60's-era organs and hair grease

New alias for Richard Gateaux (Aka Phoreski) dropping two essential jams for the Soft Rocks boys on their Kinfolk imprint. 'This Devil Can Dance' is a scary anthemic electronic dance monster from the left that will slay many a dance floor this year and has legend written all over it. Add to the mix the downtempo delight 'Lone Soldier Theme' that takes a different electronic route with it's echoes of 'Assault On Precinct 13' / 'Escape From New York' filmic vibe this makes for an essential package.

(Emotional) Especial looks back at the first 9 releases since it's inception to provide a selection or "Eleccio" via a special dubbed out DJ meets studio mix from label stalwart
Jamie Paton. Ever since the first white labels appeared at the end of Summer 2013, (Emotional) Especial has been busy putting out music that are their own warped take on club music. Mixing the
influences of dub, electro, disco, proto-house, house and techno, a sound appeared without any preordained plan.
To celebrate the end of the first series of releases come EES10CD - a DJ meets studio compilation mix created by label artist, remixer and even in-house designer, Jamie Paton.
Freaturing tracks from every EP, including two unreleased remixes are the tight productions of Richard Sen, the wiggle of Scott Fraser, deep, chugging Cage & Aviary dubs, the Eastern
influences of Baris K and newcomers Khidja, the quirky discoid wonk of Maurice & Charles and finally not forgetting of course, the stand out Timothy J Fairplay touches. Whether
alongside Mr Weatherall, Andy Blake or in solo remix mode, young "Junior"s skills (and name) grows and grows.
All this is perfectly put together by Jamie Paton, the man who launched the label with his Bizarre Feeling EP. As well as the inclusion of several unreleased cuts, Jamie has edited the
"selection", adding live studio dubbing, FX and the odd mega-mix to make it truly (E)special.

Having a debut that managed to possibly be the most regularly outed track by Andrew Weatherall as he dug deep to discover the sound that resonated as A Love From Outer Space, while at the same time seemingly slipping under the radar of practically everyone else and disappear in to relative cult obscurity is some mean feet. Unperturbed that the odd(disco)ball that was the acidic genius of Morodor In Milan was shamefully overlooked, Maurice & Charles have again taken time out from their daytime media and art enriched lives to hunker down and offer up another take on their twisted idea of what makes people groove. In Sofa Love, their ode to the marvels and pitfalls of the mega-city, bubbling 303 again underpins a twisted lyrical journey. Set against crashing percussion, this is their peaen to la Metropole. Ably supporting is a driving, rhythmic workout from our own Jamie Paton, taking the original and stripping everything back to jack like it should. If that frightens off the less adventurous, then I,Carpenter will perhaps offer a respite. An off-kilter, acid-funk nod to the experimentations of Eno & Byrne, this quirky gem makes you wonder, why did no-one use that sample before To end comes a solo debut from Soft Rock's Piers Harrison. His drum heavy remix straightens things up and lets the story unfold.

It's obvious that Gothenburgbased Lamagaia are the second generation musicians on the swedish proggscene when the needle starts to read information from the A-side Space Normal Speed. The track will stone yer asses back to your momas wildest moments on Kabul hashisch and red wine. Before the B-side Seebass fades out the fog is so thick that you'll wonder if it was spacey sci-fipsych, trad, gras och stenarsalutes or a classic haschpsychosis that hit you. SoSure Music are pleased to present 'The Tunnel EP' from Hollis Parker.
Title cut 'The Tunnel' kicks things off, laying the foundations with gritty drum sounds charged with a shuffling MPC swing. Bright piano licks, fluttering Rhodes sounds and sporadic brass lines sprinkle musicality into the composition, while the warm, rounded sub-bass tones add a driving feel to the cut.
Following up there is 'Vibes, Part 1', very much maintaining the aesthetic of the preceding record with organic strings, pianos and meandering sax sounds combining to create a cosseting jazz-infused creation. The rugged square-wave bass stabs and crunchy distorted drums then generate a more peak-time, dance floor focused feel with this one.
Then the package is rounded of with 'Travelling'. A more refined cut fuelled by sparse yet punchy percussive elements, while the warbling Rhodes chords, bubbling stabs and airy pads generate an ever- evolving dynamism and ethereal feel over its six and half minute duration.
This is a classy debut from SoSure Music and a striking indication of what's to come. Hollis Parker's 'The Tunnel' EP is out on SoSure Music from 8th September 2014.

The second half of the Mind Fair double header is the 3rd and 4th of 4 new tracks, none of which will be on their hotly tipped and eagerly awaited eponymous LP due later this year on Golf Channel !
'Take me to the Bridge' is a cover of the disco classic featuring the vocals of Lauren Faulkner & Charmaine Bains, all percussion and sweet sweet rhodes, perfect morning music.
'Let the Music Take Your Mind' does just that, a languid groove that liquefies your brain and transports you slowly down the river, drifting on a lazy summer day with nothing to do except watch the trails...
The package is rounded out by a remix from Joel Martin and Gerry Rooney aka The Velvet Season and the Hearts of Gold which takes over where their own filthy bangers 'Camel Toe Central' and 'Wild Honeyz' left off.
It literally booms out and just screams warehouse, dragging the ghost of 'Ma Foom Bey' kicking and screaming into saucer eyed 2014.
Both 12's feature stunning full colour artwork by Thomas Bullock aka Tom of England of Rub n Tug fame.

Four discerning tracks from Stupid Human & Space:tricks channeling the east, west and central Africa. Zaire is a bonafide classic in the making and were told is NOT an edit. The making of this track called on vintage outboard and analogue mix down processes to get that out of the box sound, circa 78. Mr Human then visits Trinidad for a humorous off kilter meltdown of a track that references all the good stuff from the caribbean islands. Sounding like Terje and Fela locked in a studio with a cabal of crazy percussionists. Space:tricks delivers a mystical tabla and bongo inspired psychedelic hustle, that trips you out into a haze of opium smoke round India, he follows that up with an even trippier journey through some back street shisha dens in Istanbul - all in all a killer EP

After the acclaimed debut release earlier this year by Belfast wonderboy Maricopa, the second release on fledgling imprint Fools & Fables (rumoured to be loosely affiliated to the Sleazy Beats crew) welcomes Closed Paradise to the manifest.
The French producer offers up some of his finest work to date for FF02 with two lovely chilled out, balearo-beatdown cuts to ease you into the summer season.
'Jungle Goddess' on the A ventures down to the centre of the earth with its sub-100 BPM tempo. A constant and steady builder, Jungle Goddess weaves its way through deep, dark and seriously pitched-down house territory, being carried by off-kilter keys and seemingly random guitar notes throughout before a dreamy male vocal sparks up and takes things home.
Flip over for 'Get Your Bearings', where Closed Paradise brings things down with spaced out drums and soft pads amidst earthy tones that render the track next to perfect for those blissed-out sets that call for nothing more from an audience than sipping umbrella-boat drinks while watching an Adriatic sunset.
Another strictly limited affair from the F&F camp. 400 Copies - No repress, no digital. Not now, not ever.

Following his 2013 releases for Hivern and Major Problems and remixes for The XX and Mano Le Tough, Dublin producer New Jackson steps into 2014 with a full flex EP for Germany's Permanent Vacation. Cover and inner artwork by Practice and Theory. Initial copies available on red vinyl.

This new track from Akabu features the soaring neo soul croons of Alex Mills (who you might recognize from Miguel Campbell's 'Something Special').
The Joey Negro Strip Mix is unashamedly feel-good with its bouncing, skewed and spraying synths and driving bassline, with pristine production putting many
imitators to shame.
The Akabu Warehouse Mix is built on chunky drums and classic claps before rave indebted synths swoop into the mix. Building the tension slowly, the whole thing comes alive with a bobbling bassline and the carefully chopped and spliced diva vocals of Miss Mills.
Yet another timeless and easy to love offering from the studio of Dave Lee

Label maker Alberto Sabatini drops a stellar spring grenade in the form of Roboto (We Are) on Save The Black Beauty. Having featured such renowned artists as FNM and Sasse, it was time for Sabatini to step into the spotlight with his own production. The introduction was made with his remix for Sasse's Flushing Meadows' which showed his roots firmly to the italo & early pro to house territory. Now with Roboto, Sabatini takes a italo vibe and mixes it with contemporary house elements and creates a joyful, yet sinister late night belter. On the remix tip italian Meister Fabrizio Mammarella who dips the original in disco sprinkles and lets the sun in.

"Mermaids Of Salinas" ist brasilianisch angehaucht, "Something about you" besticht durch die zauberhafte Melodie.

Last year City Fly unearthed a raw diamond in the form of Russia's Alexander Lay-Far AKA Lay-Far with his 'Perfect World' track being the choice cut on City Fly's 'Visions Volume 2' EP - its dream-like harmony, yearning female tones and warm bass culminating in a transcendent production. Since his contribution to City Fly the Moscow native and 'In-Beat-Ween Sessions' host has already built an impressive discography with releases on Dutch tastemakers 4lux, Moscow's Shanti records and JD records with Detroit marvel Terrence Parker remixing him - not to mention further releases out on distinguished house labels including Amp Art, Visky Recordings, Fifty Fathoms Deep and a forthcoming 12inch with Jonny Miller on the Atjazz Record Company imprint.
However, it was the release of his acclaimed debut album 'So Many Ways' on Chicago imprint Glenview Records Inc that saw him receive some deserved exposure and gain a wider audience - putting him firmly on the house map. Though the album has its roots in house, its melting pot of influences and genres with lashings of funk, soul and R&B elevated it above the usual house fare and found its way into the record bags of revered tastemakers such as Osunlade, Mad Mats and Inkswel.
Having monitored his progress closely since there last collaboration it was only a matter of time before City Fly brought Lay-Far back into the fold. Having planted the seeds to grow an alliance that has come to fruition with him flying over for an exclusive DJ set and now launching his debut 'It's On' EP for the label, this Kindred Spirit is definitely one to watch..
WITHOUT
Kicking off with lashings of funk and warm jazzy keys, 'Without' initially has a sunnier disposition then the title implies. However, a dusty male soul vox and moody organ then interject - taking things deeper and juxtaposing against the funk-fuelled spirit of the track ultimately adding more layers and depth giving it a more beatdown feel. A typical soul-infused Lay-Far production with it's an organic and timeless aesthetic, this is definitely one to soak up and kick back to in the summer sun..
SUMMER IS ON (DEDICATED TO GEORGE)
As the title suggests 'Summer Is On (Dedicated to George)' has summer written all over it. Beginning with warm bass, jazz licks and an infectious rhythm that slowly builds until the track takes a sudden tempo change with orchestral sweeps. There's no time to acclimatise though as the track metamorphoses again with the rolling drum and handclaps bringing the track back to the dancefloor with the introduction of a guiro adding some latin flair. A pure summer joint that'll be perfect for the roof terrace..
PENSAMENTO NOVO
The summer theme is in full flow as next up is 'Pensamento Novo' which as the Portuguese title suggests is a strictly Brazilian affair. With a heavy drum and funky guitar licks kicking off proceedings, the track takes a shift into Bossa Nova territory with its fusion of spoken word and raw percussive elements giving it an authentic Brazilian flavour culminating in a crescendo awash with sax and blissful keys.
PENSAMENTO NOVO (S3A'S WURM REMIX)
Having previously featured house heavyweights on remix duties including Andres, Fred P and DJ Nature, City Fly like to balance this with their quest in discovering and nurturing hidden house talent. Step forward S3A straight outta France who has been on City Fly's radar for quite some time now and are proud to present him for this release. The unusual 'S3A' name is an acronym for 'Sampling As An Art', and as well as holding down a spot at club du jour Concrete his productions have featured on revered house labels such as Local Talk and Slow House Records not to mention the creme de la creme of French labels such as Phonogramme, Lazare Hoche Records and City Fly's partner in crime Pablo Valentino's Faces imprint. On to the remix and S3A's interpretation is a more house-orientated affair and as ever joins the dots between the classic sounds of house with an ear open to the future - the perfect contrast to the EP's more relaxed, summery tone.

The second of two collaborative 12inch releases by Sonar Kollektiv and Especial Records (the label run by Yoshihiro Okino from Kyoto Jazz Massive) showcases the aspiring talent of DJ Kawasaki. Since his debut 'Beautiful' from 2006 he became a staple and a new ambassador for Japanese club and dance music. It's been already five years since his first remix for Sonar Kollektiv ('Dark Soldier' by Roland Appel in 2009) and you can surely hear how his production skills have even sharpened over the time.

Almost 5 years after his previous album 'Horror Disco' (which was a concept album drawing connections between Italian '70s and '80s giallo and horror movies soundtracks and disco music) Bottin is back with a stunning new full length opus. Entitled 'Punica Fides' the album was made during sessions in Venice, Rome, Berlin and Ibiza.
Releasing on labels like Italians Do It better, Nang and Z records, Bottin has made a reputation for himself as a fine craftsmen who really knows his musical history and has a true passion for soundtracks. This new album, his third in a career that dates back more than a decade, was made using a ton of synthesisers, guitars, FX machines and with the help of some standout vocal collaborators.
According to the artist, 'Punica Fides is a Roman expression that means "treachery". The concept behind the album (made clear in the song titles) is manipulation, falsehood, seduction (and the will to be seduced knowing it's a lie), propaganda but also parody and satire. I think music (and especially dance music) is always also a parody. A dance track is a parody of itself and of other tracks that came before it. The album is not as soundtrack and nostalgic as Horror Disco was, I think this is a musically diverse album which ranges from synth-house, dark electronica, neo-new-wave dystopian landscapes, space disco and Italo disco. I suppose it's more of a dance record, which reflect the past 5-6 year touring the world as a DJ, as well as the will of creating my own musical bubble.'
The album opens in spiky fashion with the raw drums and serrated synths of 'Lies' coming over like a shimmering deep disco jam. Many styles are explored from there on in with 'Flow Of Persuasion' being a fast paced, melodically rich house cut that is stuff with analogue lines and oozes psychedelic charm.
Next up is the fantastic 'Poison' with Steve Strange (lead singer of Visage and co-founder of the Blitz Club which set the New Romantic template for the music and style of the 80s) which cuts a fine form with its squelchy synthesized basslines, pop leaning vocals and brightly coloured keys. Mid way through the album comes the frazzled synths and steel drum charm of 'Lust for Deception', a raucous and ravey disco cut of sheer pleasure.
'All For One' is another dazzling jam shot through with laser synths, arpeggiated lines and robotic vocals that sound like Kraftwerk on acid. Every new track seems even more fun and colourful that the last and the album as a whole leaves you feeling hugely energised, happy and very much alive. The closer is a reprise of 'Lies' with vocals from Lavinia Claws that comes straight from some intergalactic disco party it's so spangled and sugary.
Fans of Todd Terje, Pachanga Boys and all Bottin's previous work will no doubt fall madly in love with this beautifully crafted and sensuously shiny electronic album.
