What's the first thing you think of when someone mentions Thee Oh Sees Probably their riot-sparking live show, right Visions of a guitar-chewing, melody-maiming John Dwyer careening across your cranium, rounded out by a wild-eyed wrecking crew that drives every last hook home like it's a nail in the coffin of what you thought it meant to make 21st-century rock 'n' roll Yeah, that sounds about right. But it misses a more important point-how impossible Thee Oh Sees have been to pin down since Dwyer launched the project in the late '90s as a solo break from such sorely missed underground bands as Pink and Brown and Coachwhips. (While Dwyer still records songs on his own, Thee Oh Sees is now a five-piece featuring keyboardist / singer Brigid Dawson, guitarist Petey Dammit, drummer Mike Shoun and multi-instrumentalist / singer Lars Finberg.) That restlessness extends to everything from the towering, thirteen-minute title track of 2010's Warm Smile LP to the mercurial moods of 2008's The Master's Bedroom Is Worth Spending a Night In. Now, Thee Oh Sees chase the home-brewed symphonies of Castlemania with the scrappy, high-wire hooks of Carrion Crawler / The Dream. Originally envisioned as two EPs, it was cut live to tape in less than a week at Chris Woodhouse's Sacramento studio in June, reflecting the battering-ram bent of the band's live show better than any bootleg ever could. "As I'm sure most would agree," explains Dwyer, "Castlemania was more of a vocal tirade. This one's meant to pummel and throb." That it does, whether one blasts the slow, speaker-bruising build of "The Dream," the sunburnt organs and dovetailing guitars of "Crack in Your Eye" or the interstellar instrumental "Chem-Farmer," a perfect example of what happens when one takes a well-oiled machine-a gang of rabid road warriors, really-and adds a second, groove-locked drum set to the mix. To listen is to realize that Dwyer's music is as manic as the underground comic inclinations of his artwork; colorful and confusing in a way that's more than welcome. It's downright refreshing, like a slap in the face at 5:00 in the morning. Or, as Dwyer puts it, "You have to leave a mark somehow."

If one prefers a slightly more subtle musical awakening, there's always Putrifiers II, the latest in a long line of Oh Sees albums that expands the group's sound well past your friendly neighborhood garage band. So while the space-odyssey nods of "Wax Face" actually sound like they're meant to melt one's ears straight off, the record's full of deviant detours, from the poison-tipped string parts and Eno-esque engineering of "So Nice" to the groove-locked Krautrock inclinations of "Lupine Dominus." The most noticeable element may be Dwyer's melodies, however, as they reveal a softer side to his songwriting, one that makes perfect sense considering just how disparate his dust-clearing influences are. Scott Walker, The Velvet Underground, The Zombies and the experimental Japanese act Les Rallizes Denudes are but a small taste of what informed Thee Oh Sees this time around, as Dwyer returned to the multi-instrumental ways of Castlemania- full-band sessions for another record are already underway-and rounded out a fuller, drier sound with drummer / engineer Chris Woodhouse and special guests like Mikal Cronin (sax), Heidi Maureen Alexander (trumpet, vocals) and K Dylan Edrich (viola).

Somewhere beyond nostalgia, beyond the garage, somewhere beyond the fireside song and supposed goo-rock, you will find the latest incarnation of Thee Oh Sees, now a quartet composed of John Dwyer (OCS, Coachwhips, Pink & Brown), Brigid Dawson, Petey Dammit!, and Mike Shoun. The prolific John Dwyer contends again for best album of his career with "The Master's Bedroom Is Worth Spending A Night In". Following 2007's "Sucks Blood", the album weaves Dwyer's signature AM radio howl with the catchiest of driving tunes, Dawson's gorgeous harmonies, heightened fidelity, thick spring-reverbed bombast, mighty drums (at times in pairs), and an undeniable pull. The tracks were recorded by Chris Woodhouse in San Francisco except three which were done with Chris Moore and Dave Sitek (TV On The Radio) in New York City. From the introductory wailing feedback of "Block Of Ice" to the heavy-footed trudge of "You Will See This Dog Before You Die", you will be captivated.

It's no secret that John Dwyer and Thee Oh Sees put out a ton of stuff. We're not just talking full lengths, of which there are many, and recently...but the singles, splits, comps even books - the dude cooks in many kitchens but the sauce is always tasty - and we're proud to continue our tradition of occasionally corralling these rarer gems all at once in a convenient LP format. If you already have all these songs from the first pressings, you must be a seriously insane collector (even I don't), but we've even included an unreleased and mutated live version of "Block Of Ice" recorded to tape at San Francisco den of iniquity "The Eagle" to sweeten the deal. We've also done our darnedest to dandy up the bunch and make it a party - they're printed on a blinding silver foil jacket with incredible tritone all-original artwork by Shalo P, of course the tunes have been gussied up ever-so-slightly to knock you nightly!!
It's rare that CDs get something extra but this time around we had an additional live jam, a particularly bloodthirsty medley of Destroyed Fortress and No Spell recorded at that just wouldn't fit on the LP, so the CDs get a little something extra too. Our lad John P. Dwyer has been lancing eardrums with Thee
Oh Sees in an ever-escalating flurry of records for the past six
years. Since the release of The Master's Bedroom Is Worth
Spending a Night In announced a new loud era (and excepting a
few momentary detours into home-baked territory—Dog Poison
and Castlemania, for example), Dwyer and company have pummeled
a bit harder each time out, cementing their reputation as a
live force to be reckoned with and leaving legions sweaty and
bruised in the process. Late last year, after years of relentlessly
touring the world, the word got out... Dwyer's moving to Los
Angeles (fear not, still California!) and Thee Oh Sees are taking
a much-needed hiatus with a shifting of gears ahead and a new
album on the way. This is that album.
Drop was recorded in a banana-ripening warehouse (no joke)
with hair-farming studio warlock Chris Woodhouse playing
drums; it's also graced with the presence of talented gurus Mikal
Cronin, Greer McGettrick and Casafis adding horns and
vocals. The result pushes the familiar polarities of the group farther
outward than ever before. Opener 'Penetrating Eye' might
be the heaviest Oh Sees song yet, 'Transparent World' and 'Put
Some Reverb On My Brother' foam with seasick fuzz, and yet
the ballads, like the harpsichorded 'King's Nose' and the lush
and stately closer 'The Lens,' extend their oeuvre into mellotronic,
far-out pop with delicacy and grace.
This schizophrenia heralds the man and the band into an unseen
future in classic Dwyer fashion—restless energy harnessed
into exquisitely crafted jams, with an emphasis on the pensive
and the paranoid in turns.

The term 'cult', in reference to artistic productions, can have two meanings: the first concerns those works that have become so famous by crossing the barriers of a specific genre of belonging and being part of a global culture, something that 'one can't be unaware of'; the second one refers to what was unjustly neglected at the time of its release, and that has only recently been rediscovered and re-evaluated by a small group of enthusiasts. In this second sense, "La via della droga" (mainly exported as "The Heroine Busters" or "Dealer Connection") is a totally cult film: a serious crime movie, coming out when (1977) the genre was already losing it at the expense of the cheaper 'Italian comedy', could not last long. And so it was, in fact, despite the presence of the actor David Hemmings, the same starring in "Deep Red". An even more cult item is Goblin's soundtrack, here in a 4-piece configuration (Simonetti / Morante / Pignatelli / Marangolo) immediately after the recording of "Suspiria" and keyboardist Guarini's resignation. It had been necessary to wait until the '90s for an official publication of those songs that remained completely unedited for over two decades. "La via della droga" comes out on AMS Records for the Record Store Day 2016. It's the first vinyl edition ever, with new artwork and a poster attached with reproductions of flyers and lobby cards of the film. The vinyl also, in white color, carries tracks that hadn't yet seen the light outside of the movie, for a total of over 34 cuts! In a few words: the most complete version ever released of this hidden gem!!!

Goblin and "Suspiria", two names that speak by themselves, the second of which may refer to the 1977 cinematic masterpiece by Dario Argento, to its soundtrack written and performed by the Roman band or, as in this case, to the title track of the 45rpm published at the time, including the song "Blind Concert" on its side B. The importance of Goblin, not only in the specific field of film music, is out of the question; in "Suspiria", at their highest inspiration level, Claudio Simonetti and Massimo Morante's quintet was more than anyone else capable of transposing fear into notes, and the result is still far more terrifying than today's many multi-millionaire horror productions. This single is one of the two release produced by AMS Records for the Record Store Day 2016, along with "La via della droga" soundtrack, also recorded by Goblin; this is the first edition ever in almost 40 years! Faithful to the original in the artwork, it also includes a poster made exclusively for this release, and comes on bright purple vinyl!

Baba Naga are shamen in a world where the existence of souls is denied, they offer stories in song and give hopeless prayer to the people. The music is a peregrination from desperation to despair, channelled into euphoric, psychedelic pagan doom. The live show is moody, trippy, a sickening high without narcotics. The shows are not just gigs, they are worships, combining sound and visuals to offer experiences that conjure 'a mesmerising sense of the beyond'.

Secondhand Daylight is the second studio album by English post-Punk band Magazine, released in 1979. One single, 'Rhythm of Cruelty', was released from the album.

The new Magazine lineup was stable until mid-1980 and consisted of Howard Devoto (vocals), John McGeoch (guitar and saxophone), Barry Adamson (bass), Dave Formula (keyboards) and newly recruited drummer John Doyle. The first release with Doyle had been the 'Give Me Everything' single from November 1978.

The album was produced and engineered by Colin Thurston. The album was Thurston's first production job; significantly, he had worked as an engineer for David Bowie's Heroes and Iggy Pop's The Idiot and would later produce The Party's Over by Talk Talk.

Life is the third studio album of Sly and the Family Stone, released in 1968. Unlike its predecessor Dance To The Music [MOVLP1402], Life was not a commercial success, although it has received mostly positive reviews from music critics over the years.

Many of its songs, including 'M'Lady', 'Fun', 'Love City', as well as the title track, became popular staples in the Family Stone's live show. A middle ground between the fiery A Whole New Thing and the more commercial Dance To The Music, Life features very little use of studio effects, and is instead more driven by frontman Sly Stone's compositions.

Much of Life has been heavily sampled for Hip Hop and Electronica recordings, particularly Gregg Errico's drum solo on 'Love City'. The opening riff on 'Into My Own Thing' was sampled for Fatboy Slim's 2001 hit 'Weapon of Choice'.

Seven Turns is the ninth studio album by the Allman Brothers Band, released in 1990. Their first studio album since Brothers of the Road in 1981, it was well-received, and peaked at #53. Hit singles were 'Good Clean Fun' (#1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks); 'Seven Turns' (#12) and 'It Ain't Over Yet' (#26).

This is the Allman Brothers Band's comeback album, and their best Blues-based outing since Idlewild South that restored a lot of their reputation. With Tom Dowd running the session, and the group free to make the music they wanted to, they ended up producing this bold, rock-hard album, made up mostly of songs by Dickey Betts (with contributions by new keyboardman Johnny Neel and lead guitarist Warren Haynes), almost every one of them a winner.

Apart from the rippling opening number, 'Good Clean Fun,' which he co-authored, Gregg Allman's contribution is limited to singing and the organ, but the band seem more confident than ever, ripping through numbers like 'Low Down Dirty Mean,' 'Shine It On,' and 'Let Me Ride' like they were inventing blues-rock here, and the Ornette Coleman-inspired 'True Gravity' is their best instrumental since 'Jessica.'

Adept is a Swedish metalcore band from Trosa. Founded in 2004, the band consists of Robert Ljung (vocals), Jerry Repo (guitars) Filip Brandelius (bass), Gabriel Hellmark (drums) and Gustav Lithammer (guitars). They've released 3 EP's as well as 3 studio albums to date, including Another Year of Disaster in 2009, Death Dealers (which saw a shift in sound from their original post-hardcore influences) in 2011 and their latest, Silence the World, in 2013. In November 2014, they announced that their next album will be released in 2015.
Recorded in January and then re-recorded in September we can finally shine a light on this album. Through the ups and downs we created something truly beautiful with "Sleepless".

You may never have heard of him, but unless you're a complete stranger to the 20th century, you will almost certainly have heard at least some of his music. André Brasseur composed countless tunes that received plenty of airplay and were used as radio and TV intro tunes all over Europe in the late Sixties and in the Seventies. His biggest hit, 'Early Bird Satellite' was an international million seller..

This compilation focuses on a lesser known aspect of Brasseur's musical output. Because in between his quest for the perfect intro tune, playing innumerable live shows and running several successful restaurants and discothèques, Brasseur recorded a great deal of experimental, funky jams in the Seventies. We made it our mission to compile the most exciting and timeless of these lost cuts and ended up with 13 enchanting cult classics and hidden gems, ready to devour.

Delain have announced an eight-track EP titled Lunar Prelude. It's set for release on February 19, 2016, via Napalm Records, and features two new tracks, four live cuts, an alternative take on Don't Look Back and an orchestral version of Suckerpunch.

Bedpost Oracle started in 1967 in Southern California and released their first 45 'The Break Of Dawn / Love Isn't Dead' as a quartet with lead guitar, bass guitar, drums and keyboards on Corby in 1969. In the summer of 1970 the band added a female lead singer to add dynamics to the band's overall sound. This line-up would become the better known Bedpost sound. They continued on playing cover versions of songs groups such as Cream, Jimi Hendrix and Grand Funk Railroad had popularized. Two more 45s were released including 'Somebody To Love / Chest Fever'. Their 45s are on side A. On side B a mind blowing Jimi Hendrix Jam from 1972 is included, where the band is at its peak.

Official vinyl reissue of one of the best progressive albums ever resurfaced from the British Islands.

Cirkus quintet formed, in late 1973, from the ashes of bands Lucas Tyson and Moonhead. Soon, Hollies' manager Robin Britten took the band under his wings and during 1974, Cirkus recorded their debut, entitled "One", and just 1000 copies were pressed up. It is widely regarded as the most musically accomplished private pressing of its kind to emerge out of the UK's then burgeoning progressive music scene of the early 70's.

"One" was produced by veteran from the (early) Beatles and Hollies, Ron Richards. All the tracks were laid down virtually live and then the overdubs and vocals were added in later sessions. Enhanced string and choir parts, written by Tony Hymas, were also added later and followed the mellotron lines.

This reissue is coming along an extra 7" single with two previously unreleased tracks from 1974. "Castles" and "The heaviest stone". "Castles" was one of...if not the first song ever recorded by Cirkus.

The Old Waldorf, owned by legendary Bay Area concert promoter Bill Graham, originally opened in 1976 and was host to some of the Bay's most important early punk shows featuring The Avengers, The Dead Boys, Bad Brains, and more. Though their debut album wouldn't be released until the following year, Dead Kennedys were already local legends by 1979, and they played The Old Waldorf on October 25th of that year for a live college radio broadcast for KALX FM in Berkeley. With live early versions of some of their most famous songs, including their classic first single, "California Über Alles", as well as "Holiday In Cambodia", "Kill The Poor", "Back In Rhodesia", and more, this is a crucial early SF punk live broadcast finally available on LP!

Four Latinos from Puerto Rico doing progressive music was not common back in the early 70s. Intensity played in many places in New York, mostly opening for Salsa and R&B bands. They were heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix and also by the rock artists of their time, bands such as Gentle Giant, ELP, Yes, and many others, but they were creating their own brand of progressive rock. Long Tracks, Heavy Fuzz Thunderstorms...a delight fort he listeners ears!!!!
In 1973 they went into the studio and recorded an album. This music is the only evidence of their existence as a band. A Band that was ahead of their time, a time when music was more than melodies. it was their dream. Ray Serrano left his mark in Music history when he wrote Frantic Situation for Afrika Bambaataa , together with Arthur Baker & LeRoi Evans. It was immortalized on the Beat Street Soundtrack! He wrote several songs For Afrika Bambaataa as well as other Hip Hop Legends Like Cold Crush Brothers, Tashan, Lil' Jazzy Jay & Cool Supreme a well as playing in his own Bands Visual, Amoretto & Les Sun Rae just to name a few.
Julio Virella had been Playing Jazz by the name of Virella but was also involved into early rap: Rita Lane - The Party's Live
By the time they released this so they both were well into their 30s..imagine how wild and crazy these boys where when they where...16!!!!!

Der aus Bristol stammende und derzeit in Bern lebende Solokünstler Joe Volk war einer der ersten Musiker,
der bei Geoff Barrows (Portishead) Label Invada unter Vertrag genommen wurde. Einem größeren Publikum
ist er jedoch als Sänger, Gitarrist und (Co)-Songschreiber von Crippled Black Phoenix bekannt, wo er
zwischen 2006 und 2013 neben Justin Greaves einziges permanentes Mitglied war. Daneben trat Joe Volk
immer wieder als Songwriter für Soundtracks, Kurzfilme und Dokumentationen in Erscheinung, unter
anderem für die Oscar-nominierte Dokumentation "Exit Through The Gift Shop" über den britischen Street-Art-
Künstler Banksy. Mit "Happenings And Killings" auf Glitterhouse erscheint Volks erstes Soloalbum seit
seinem Abschied von Crippled Black Phoenix. Dafür arbeitete er eng mit den Emmy-nominierten Songwritern
und Produzenten Ben Salisbury und Geoff Barrow zusammen. Gemischt wurde das Album von Volk selbst,
allerdings in Zusammenarbeit mit Jim Barr (Portishead, Get The Blessing) und dem Musiker und Künstler
Leafcutter John. Als Gastmusiker treten Billy Fuller, Adrian Utley, Mark Ophidian, Guy Metcalfe und Luke
Harney in Erscheinung. Die Bandbreite des Albums reicht von akustischen Songs, die von analogen
elektronischen Elementen unterstützt werden, bis zu Stücken, die von Volks typischen Gesangsharmonien
und der ausgeklügelten Gitarrenarbeit geprägt sind.

Es ist ja nicht so, als wäre die Formation Leland Sundries erst seit gestern aktiv. Tatsächlich ist die New
Yorker Band schon seit 2010 am Musizieren. Nur hat man das hierzulande noch nicht mitgeschnitten und
deshalb sind auch die EPs "The Foundry" und "The Apothecary" nur ausgewiesenen Spezialisten bekannt.
Das sollte sich mit "Music For Outcasts", dem Debütalbum für den europäischen Markt, nachhaltig ändern.
Mit seiner dynamischen Mischung aus Garage, Indie-Rock und Americana bieten sich Vergleiche zu Lou
Reed, Jack Oblivian und Ezra Furman geradezu an. Dabei steht Leland Sundries durch und durch in der
Rock'n'Roll-Tradition von New York. Schließt man die Augen und schaltet die Phantasie ein, führt "Music For
Outcasts" vom Fillmore East des Jahres 1968 und Max's Kansas City von 1969 über das 1977er-CBGB und
das Coney Island High von 1992 bis zum Brownies in 2002 und dem Death By Audio von 2008. Willkommen
in der Gegenwart des Rock.

Kaum eine Handvoll Songs haben die Sängerin und Ukulele-Spielerin Kay Kasparhauser sowie Lulu Prat an
Gitarre und Bass bisher veröffentlicht. Und dennoch waren die The Prettiots die heimlichen Stars beim
2015er-SXSW. Ganz zu schweigen davon, dass die beiden im Elvis Guesthouse in ihrer Heimatstadt New
York als Hausband über die Maßen geschätzt werden. Das dürfte vor allem einen Grund haben: ihre Songs
kommen zuckersüß daher, dabei sind die Texte bitterböse, sarkastisch, schamlos ehrlich und entwaffnend.
"My lyrics are completely honest. They're 100 percent true to my thoughts at any given moment. I like to talk
about Werner Herzog and sex", ließ Kay Kasparhauser selbstbewusst in einem Interview verlauten, um
daraufhin ihre musikalischen Einflüsse in einem weiten Feld von Eyehategold, Lightning Bolt und ABBA
anzuordnen. Was erklärt, warum die Prettiots bei ihren Konzerten gerne die Misfits oder Dolly Parton covern.
Mit "Funs Cool" legen die beiden Musikerinnen ihr lang ersehntes Debüt vor. Wie der Titel andeutet, handelt
es sich um eine Ode an den hitzköpfigen, von Christopher Meloni mit Herz am rechten Fleck gespielten
Detective Elliot Stabler aus der Serie "Law & Order" und dessen wehmütigen Hang zu Idealismus in
romantischen Beziehungen. Ein gutes Beispiel für das vielschichtige Song-Gut des Duos.

After crafting Kykeon, the most detailed and finely intermeshed recording of their output, the cosmic compatriots Rhyton decided to get back to basics and kick out the jams with both ferocity and stateliness. Their newest slab entitled Navigating by Starlight features two sidelong improvised slices of molten music recorded by the redoubtable Jason Meagher at apex temperatures at his upstate New York Black Dirt Studio. The first side "Lovejoy Vapor Trail" comprises a journey from an initial solemn invocation, rushing through areas of blinding scree toward a summit of relaxed but rough and tough guitar elevation. The second side with its natural bifurcation was an instant composition of two halves that balance perfectly and exhibit a subdued menace. Rhyton is very pleased to be joining the stellar MIE family, just in time for the rebirth of the sun!

"Navigating by Starlight is the elegantly distended fourth LP by a New York band known for its fine taste in bourbon as well as its ability to explore strangely forested nooks of space. Composed of two side-long excursions of heavily-bearded improv, this is what Bruce Dern should have been listening to throughout Douglas Trumbull's Silent Running.

The first side is called 'Lovejoy Vapor Trail,' after the recently discovered comet said to be releasing enough alcohol to fill 500 bottles of George T. Stagg every second. Who could fail to be staggered by such a suggestion Not these guys. Dave Shuford's guitar vomits stars in all known directions, Jimy Seitang's bass and synth cover the proceedings with a blanket of darkness and Rob Smith's drums drive things along like a pulsar.

The flip, 'Scylla and Charybdis,' continues Rhyton's linguistic love affair with Ancient Greece. But with Shuford on electric mandolin, and the rhythm section picking their way between the twin threats more carefully than usual, the band creates a vibe that is more space-swamp than whirlpool (at least in this writer's opinion). By which I mean its method of sucking you into its vortex is staggered rather than continuous. Of course, once you've stuck your head into Rhtyon's sound-barrel, the specifics of destruction don't matter much do they

The Dictators spat the lyrical disrespect and echoed the smart lipstick wit that David Johansen and the NY Dolls had employed on their home turf. On the surface, here was a similar bunch of sloppy goofballs intent on nothing much apart from avoiding the mundane drivel of the daily grind and poking fun. From 1973 onwards, the band were a swaggering bunch of misfits who'd absorbed the American dream and all the trash that goes with it, throwing it all back up in your face. They were the Dolls, the MC5 and The Stooges, they were anything you wanted them to be, but most importantly, they were a punk band's punk band, and they were The Dictators!
