Pop & Rock Vinyl New Releases - News

Now available on SWIRLED color vinyl! This Ohio duo indulges in Gories-style minimalism, with a heavier dose of the blues. Guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney sound like the garage is as far as they'll ever get. Where the White Stripes reminded everyone that alt rock could still contain graceful '60s hooks and prettiness, the Black Keys, with their heroic cover of 'She Said, She Said," drag the Beatles back to the Cavern". Spin. "Akron has spawned the most compelling two-piece, hyper-primitive, bluesbased rock band of the last five years. This is one of the five best records of 2002, and bass players everywhere should continue to grow nervous" Village voice.

Panico are finally back with a new record after a busy year shooting an exciting film project in Chile (more about this soon!).

In the midst of one of the worst winters Paris has known for a long time and with so many conflicts all around, we have been looking for calm and tenderness. As a result this new compilation brings you almost as much comfort as taking a newly born in your arms and giving him a cuddle. That's right, this is music babies can get into. A fully padded compilation that's rather more candid, innocent and carefree than the norm, and which is still inviting the listener to shake his hips.

Hole In The Sky is proud to present Tortoiseshell. This musical squad of dudes, brothers and cousins ride the sunny currents of Talking Heads, ESG, afro pop, the 80s, Howard Arkley, Roxy Music et al. They will take you to crystal, clear turquoise waters. As smart casual agents of new age song, the shells' pop manifesto is enshrined on their debut single "This Girl". Canyons produced, the release also features an extended blissed out dub mix.

Tortoiseshell's "This Girl" is a beautiful harmonious pop track full of the kind of shimmer that lifts the spirit. Another fine Canyons production - Justin Miller DFA Records

The Screaming Trees are considered to be one of the godfathers of Grunge. Although they were one of the best 'Seattle-bands' of the early nineties, they never achieved the commercial success of bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. Founded in 1985, the band had to wait till 1992 for their biggest success, the release of Sweet Oblivion. The song Nearly Lost You' became the Screaming Trees' biggest hit after being featured on the soundtrack of the movie Singles.

Lead singer Mark Lanegan started a very successful solo career after the Screaming Trees, working with the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Greg Dulli (Afghan Wigs), Isobel Campbell (Belle & Sebastian) en UNKLE.

This year we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Sweet Oblivion. A very limited edition of 1.500 copies is now available on 'Flaming' vinyl.

Excavated is the second solo release from London-based veteran DJ/Producer Aupheus, who honed his skills with London-based hip hop crew Dedfires until 2006, when he released his critically acclaimed self-released solo EP Descent: "As a producer of heavyweight instrumentals he can't be beaten" HHC.

He has strong connections with the Sage Francis helmed Strange Famous Records; winning the heavily contested Buck 65 Shutterbuggin' remix competition in 2007 and continuing to produce tracks for Buck 65 (for the 'Dirtbike' album trilogy) and Sage Francis ('Sea Legs') last year.

Over Excavated's 8 tracks Aupheus unearths found sounds, obscure vinyl breaks and field recordings which he then manipulates through sampling and turntable techniques, adding live instrumentation. The result is an immersive, multi-layered merging of traditional world and ethnic influences with heavy electronic drones and tones, ambient textures and crunchy hip hop beats. Favourable comparisons can be drawn with other independent heavy instrumental hip-hop artists such as Sixtoo and DJ Signify as well as more ambient releases by labels such as Type Records.

The Excavated EP will continue 2600 Recordings' limited 7" (250 copies) and full EP download series, with hand-numbered and hand-stamped bespoke papyrus packaging. All artwork will be created by

Aupheus himself, reflecting the intricate aesthetics found on his website and previous releases. The 7" will feature edited versions of the tracks 'Insectoid' and 'Frozen Surface', with a download code available to obtain the full EP.

"Aupheus has a talent for capturing melancholy ambience while creating eerie moods. Thankfully, the drums are really good so it knocks the listener out of a potential depressive state" - Sage Francis

Dutch Uncles are very much rising stars, playing a big part in the new Manchester music scene. They have been making music together for the past five years and have mastered the art of fashioning complex compositions and off-kilter time signatures into indie-pop, alt-anthems with ease. In the case of 'The Ink'complexity has never sounded so simple and intricacy has never sounded so massive.

Recent full tour supports include The Futureheads, Bombay Bicycle Club, Maximo Park and Dananananaykroyd. 'The Ink' was unveiled by Huw Stephens on Radio 1 as his 'Hot Exclusive of the Week' quickly followed by Xfm's John Kennedy making it his 'Hot New One'. The band have been invited to record a BBC Maida Vale session in June 2010 and in March were featured in Vogue Italia, the worlds leading fashion magazine.
