Electric Moon, the German psychedelic space rock trio formed in 2009 by Sula Bassana, Komet Lulu, and Pablo Carneval are a much loved trio on the underground psych scene. Their vinyl releases sell out almost instantly, i know as i’m one of those eagerly awaiting and ordering them all myself. On their side of this split, the band take the basis of a live recording from Berlin in 2018 and tweak it into what it is now, an epic near 22 minute ‘Beacon Light Hereafter’. Another stunning addition to the bands vast back catalogue.

London’s Terminal Cheesecake formed way back in 1988, quickly establishing themselves as a legendary underground band releasing numerous well received albums and the support of John Peel amongst others. The band, like many of the era eventually burned out before remerging in 2013 with a new line up. Terminal Cheesecake circa 2019, featuring Russ Smith, Horseloaf Horseloafson, Neil Von Fish, Dave Cochrane, Johnny J Beat release an new album 'Le Sacre Du Lièvre' on May 10th via Box Records. Their contribution here is two songs long 'Fake Loop' and 'Song For John Part 2', baked in fuzz and swirling distortion. It's a totally different type of high from the Electric Moon side. Whereas the latter go on a spaced out cosmic trip, the Cheesecake side is more of an earthy, dark but equally glorious ride.

Metal Church is the self-titled debut album of the heavy metal band of the same name. The album was originally released independently in 1984. Based on the success of the album, the band was signed to a recording contract by Elektra, who reissued the album in 1985. The cover art depicts a cruciform Gibson Explorer hidden in shadows and smoke.

Some of their most notable songs are the opener 'Beyond The Black', their title track, the instrumental 'Merciless Onslaught', 'Gods Of Wrath' (which is different from all the other songs, as it had clean vocals, clean rhythms, and fluent solos) and the Deep Purple cover 'Highway Star'.

A lot of people flipped out over how amazing Mako Sica’s last album, Ronda (FTR 409), was. Ronda was a 2LP set whereupon the Chicago trio collaborated with legendary local percussionist Hamid Drake. This pairing seemed like a natural to us, but for some reason people have been woefully unaware of Mako Sica despite the fact they’ve been releasing killer records for a decade, and playing live shows that submerge your brain in a sonic soup that recalls the Sun City Girls at their most psychedelically Eastern.

The band’s approach to music feels almost alchemical. Trumpet, voice, guitar, drums and keys blend together in mysterious ways. The vocals are always more abstract than declarative, the guitar lines are sinewy, the rhythms roll and splash like a mirage oasis made real, and the trumpet arrives (when it does) sounding almost more like a shofar being played in a temple.

The sound of Manifest Being is celebratory and so fully freaked you’ll be soaking in it for years to come. The songs played are similar to the live set Mako Sika were polishing last year, and the results are stunning.

Keyboard virtuoso Terry Riley started experimenting with different instruments in the '50s. One of his electronic music landmarks is his third album A Rainbow in Curved Air. Through the use of overdubbing, he recorded all the instruments to feature on the title track. The composition consists of three movements, each representing another part of his musical influences. As the song progresses, its structure goes through frequent changes. It's an colorful, psychedelic, atmospheric and revolutionary song. The second track consists of a loop of saxophones and is the dreamy and calm opposite of the title track. Fans of electronic music, such as Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze, would love this record. Taking inspiration from Hindustani classical music and jazz techniques, Riley's masterpiece influenced many musicians, from the likes of Brian Eno to Emeralds.

Mania, Hell Fire's third album and proper debut on RidingEasy Records (the label also reissued the band's sophomore album, Free Again for the first time on vinyl in January 2019) warmly condenses elements of influences like Angel Witch, Iron Maiden, Rainbow, Exodus, Metallica, Riot, Virtue and Diamond Head into 10 tracks of headbanging MUYA anthems.
'Thematically, everything on the album comes from personal experiences,' says vocalist/guitarist Jake Nunn. 'From the highs of partying together out here in Oakland, or the nostalgia of being a kid learning Zeppelin on a beat up guitar, to the extreme lows of isolation, personal trauma, and mental illness. Sonically we want our records to sound like you're standing in front of the stage at a show. The power of Marshall stacks in front of your face, drums at your ear level, thunder of the bass and feeling the presence of the room.'
Hell Fire achieves just that — and then some — on Mania. The album was recorded in Grass Valley, California at engineer Tim Green's Louder Studios. Having also recorded their previous album with Green, the sessions proved highly productive for the band since they were already familiar with the setting and able to expand upon ideas they hadn't been able to explore previously.
'We're more excited about Mania then anything we've ever done,' Nunn says. 'We were able to spend a bit more time arranging the songs and writing from a more personal perspective lyrically. We came out of this recording feeling much more accomplished with our performances and couldn't be more happy for this to be our first release with RidingEasy Records.'
Hell Fire began when bass player Herman Bandala moved to San Francisco from Tijuana, Mexico with the hopes of forming a heavy metal band. Herman posted an ad to Craigslist which caught the attention of guitarist Tony Campos. They bonded over a mutual love of 80s thrash and NWOBHM, which was a hard thing to find in the Bay Area scene at the time. The lineup slowly morphed over time, finally solidifying with vocalist Jake Nunn also taking up second guitar duties and drummer Mike Smith joining prior to 2017's Free Again.

Their '90s take off was so impressive that many new metal bands still look up to it today - almost all of their albums earned platinum or gold status in Finland and over the past twenty five years they've become regulars on some of the world's biggest stages. 2019 beckons in a new era for a revitalised and bloodthirsty Hate Crew, who will present their 10th studio album 'Hexed'.It's been three years since the release of 'I Worship Chaos' and Bodom have taken time out around touring to carefully develop this new work, which packs a hell of a punch. History tells us that having an extensive timeframe to work on a project can often result in procrastination and loss of focus - but with 'Hexed' the reverse has manifest in this 11 track, impressively stripped back melo-death, rock-n-roll-rampage.'This road's gonna kill me,' exhorts shredder extraordinaire Alexi Laiho on the album's opening track 'The Road' - paying homage to the determined decades which the guys have spent slogging it out on the tarmac, undoubtedly one of the toughest aspects to a musician's career.Musically, 'The Road' quickly betrays the band's increasingly sophisticated approach to melody, evoking shades of Rush in the '80s.Another highlight to 'Hexed' is 'Hecate's Nightmare', an almost gothic outlier on what is for all intents and purposes a traditional all-guns-blazing Children of Bodom blowout.'That's a lot of people's favourite song actually', notes Alexi, 'with that creepy music box opening keyboard thing. But then it builds up and it's a really catchy song. Just talking about the chorus itself, I mean it totally could have been an '80s Ozzy Osbourne song. That's the sort of stuff I grew up with and I still listen to.'

As usual, and as can be heard in this very much hit-ready song, keyboardist Janne Wirman is a big part of the Bodom sound. Laiho agrees, 'Yes, he's played a big part of every single album, but this time this might seem even more prominent only because of the sounds that he uses.'Underscoring their overall vision is the hard and modern production of longtime sound-shaper Mikko Karmilla, who Laiho can't praise enough. 'He knows very well what we want and we've been working together forever. The way he mixes the album, he just knows exactly—exactly—what we want.'

A material change for the better on 'Hexed' is the addition of axeman Daniel Freyberg (ex-Naildown and ex-Norther) to the band. 'It's been pretty awesome with him,' reflects Alexi. 'I think I'm speaking for all of us that we're very happy that he ended up joining the band.'

At this point, In Flames are less of a band than they are a musical institution in the heavy music world. Since helping create Sweden's legendary 'Gothenberg Sound' three decades ago to their current status as heavy music monoliths, the act have constantly eschewed trends in order to forge their own musical path. This is evident on their 13th full-length I, The Mask, which sees them reuniting with multi Grammy-nominated producer Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, Motörhead), who also produced 2016's Battles, in order to further redefine their sound.

Unlike previous recordings, this time around Fridén and Gelotte holed up in Los Angeles for three weeks prior to the production of I, The Mask, and came up with a bulk of the songs during those sessions. 'For Battles I wrote a lot of the material at home first but for this one, Anders and I really wanted to just get in a room together and see where it would take us,' Gelotte explains, adding that Benson would frequently drop by and act as a filter for their creativity. 'I think this process worked really well because a lot of the lyrics fed off the music or Anders would come up with a really powerful line and it would inspire a riff, so there was a lot of symbiosis between us in the songwriting.' From there the duo fleshed out the arrangements with guitarist Niclas Engelin, bassist Bryce Paul Newman and previous drummer Joe Rickard and then spent two months tracking the songs. (I, The Mask is also the last recording to feature Rickard who was subsequently replaced by Tanner Wayne who played on the track '(This Is Our) House.') Finally, the album was mixed by Chris Lord-Alge, who has worked with everyone from Cheap Trick to Linkin Park and mastered by Ted Jensen (Pantera, Eagles, Guns N' Roses).

The result is a massive-sounding album that showcases why In Flames are one of the biggest metal bands in the world. From the way acoustic guitars give way to to anthemic riffing on the power ballad 'Call My Name' to the relentless riffing on 'Burn' and sweetly syncopated groove of 'I Am Above,' I, The Mask sees the band stretching out musically and crafting music that's as catchy as it is crushing. Lyrically, I, The Mask is in many ways a social commentary on the state of the world when it comes to isolation, loneliness and the way technology has subverted our need for genuine human connection.

Admittedly if you listen to 1996's The Jester Race next to I, The Mask, there are marked musical differences, but through the course of In Flames' output you can trace their evolution and hear how they managed to remain relevant by never getting complacent. That said, ultimately In Flames are a live band and they can't wait to get back on the road and share this new collection of songs with fans, whether they've supported the band for decades or are recent converts to their sound. 'I love the act of creating something from nothing and then getting to travel the world and play these songs and see how they affect people,' Fridén summarizes. 'It's extremely rewarding to hear how a certain song moves someone and then you talk to someone else and learn that it affected them in a profoundly different way. The dynamic between the creator and the fans and what they bring to the table is such an amazing feeling, so that's a big part of our drive. To make something and share it with the world, that's what we were meant to do.'

From the opening notes of Never Decide, the RidingEasy Records debut album by Athens, Greece quartet Bus The Unknown Secretary (aka B.U.S.), you'll know it's going to be a wild funhouse ride. It doesn't sound like just four people, it sounds like a mob of wild-eyed lunatics on the expressway to your skull. And, you're not gonna know what the band's name means, don't worry about it.
Never Decide is a multifaceted album in the vein of classic hitters like The Hellacopters, Alice Cooper Band, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Orange Goblin.
"The story of the album expresses the psyche of a person in a dead end and his life is introduced into obsessive rhythms, more personal and random," explains vocalist/guitarist Bill Politis. "There is no happy end here, but the questions remain: Door A or Door B Time to change or time to die, Never Decide!"
The album opens as if we're in the studio with the band listening to playback for the first time. There's a chirping test tone and someone starts counting in, "one, two, three..." before it suddenly grinds to a halt. Then suddenly the swirling guitar riff of the pummeling anthem "You Better Come In, You Better Calm Down" launches everything into the stratosphere. The guitars march in lockstep as swinging drums keep it all rolling at furious pace as the vocal chant of the song's title grows into a massive group chant in harmony. Think Uriah Heep's "Easy Livin'" meets Kiss' "Rock and Roll All Night" -- here's another big, blazing anthem for the ages. "I Buried Paul" is the sort of fun, theatrical album track no one makes anymore, not since the days of the Alice Cooper Band. "Lucifer" takes things several shades darker, turning in a dramatic ballad launched by haunting piano chords and led by sinister, sneering vocals sounding something like Ozzy meets Johnny Rotten slowly building to its epic conclusion in double time with ringing harmony guitar leads. "Evil Eyes" and "Moonchild" return the proceedings to the anthemic, pop-laced vibe, replete with major-minor chord shifts and vocal/guitar harmonies galore.


Never Decide was recorded in just 5 days in February 2018 with multitalented engineer and band's beloved friend John Vulgaris at Electric Highway Studios in Athens, Greece. The entire band -- drummer Aris Fasoulis, bassist Spiros Papadatos, and guitarists Fotis Kolokithas and Politis --recorded the instrumental tracks live in 3 days, reserving the last 2 for vocals. Over the 2 months that followed Vulgaris and the band fine-tuned the mix into the subtle and clever masterwork you have before you. BUS formed in Athens in 2011, releasing two EPs and a full length The Impious Tapes, followed by The Cross EP (2014), and The Unknown Secretary LP in 2016. During that time the band has toured extensively throughout Greece and in neighboring nations. The release of Never Decide will see them expanding that touring radius considerably.

1986 can be described as the year of the first major step in Metallica's development. A strong creative peak in the band's career marked by a studio masterpiece called "Master of Puppets" and a series of cornerstone live performances around the world, among them the London Hammersmith Odeon concert on September 21st. With Sympathy is the debut album by Ministry, released in 1983. Ministry's members at the time being Alain Jourgensen and Stephen George. The album could be considered more synth pop and new wave in comparison to the harder Industrial heavy metal style the band developed later on albums like Twitch and The Land Of Rape And Honey. Jourgensen's fake English accent was an homage to the new wave bands he loved at the time. Three singles were pulled from the album: 'Work For Love', 'I Wanted to Tell Her' and 'Revenge', the latter of which got a video.

With Sympathy is available as a limited edition of 1.500 individually numbered copies on red vinyl.

This was also the first song recorded with newcomer Jason Bitner. The album's second single 'Head Of A Pin' is a lyrical journey about disappointment and trust. Musically, the song comes across as 'Black Sabbath on meth' proclaims Blitz. It intertwines riffs and vocal melodies that pick it up into a real pounder and create something truly special.
'The Wings Of War'  also holds something to look forward to for east coast metal heads with a track entitled 'Welcome To The Garden State.' Bobby Blitz explains: 'It's all about us. It's the way we grew up as kids, it's a certain attitude about the area, it's responding to 'we don't do that where we're from' with: 'well guess what, you're not where you're from! You're here, now!' The song sums up the New Jersey attitude with over 4 minutes of thrashy, punky, honest vibration, and defines OVERKILL, as well.    With at least the next six months already blocked off for a Southern American tour, European tour with Destruction, Flotsam & Jetsam, and an American tour with Death Angel, OVERKILL are on overdrive as usual with no signs of coming to a halt. I rarely frequented any of these establishments but always took these stories on faith. I'm no audio guru, but it seems to me that someone attempting to do the same thing in 2019 could do a whole lot worse than adopting USA/Mexico's long-awaited 2nd album, 'Matamoros' for similar purposes. The trio's first album 2017's 'Laredo' might've been a worthy candidate for a test-spin in the Bang & Olufsen showroom, but the successor is the sort of record that really makes if you're the sort of person who can appreciate the BACKES MÜLLER BM 100 loudspeaker (list price $500,000.00 USD)

Once you're comfortably settled in, you'll find that the all-star team of guitarist Craig Clouse (Shit & Shine) drummer King Coffey (Butthole Surfers) and Nate Cross (Marriage, When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth) have done everything possible to help you expand your sonic palette — some might say they've even done too much! Either way, these guys are as unselfish as they are loud. Or perhaps they're as selfish as they're quiet — i do hope you'll agree their motives are less important than the results, and in this instance, those results are nothing less than a staggering sensory overload.

Arch Enemy is a Swedish melodic death metal band, originally a supergroup, from Halmstad, formed in 1995. It's members were in bands such as Carcass, Armageddon, Carnage, Mercyful Fate, Spiritual Beggars, Nevermore, and Eucharist. It was founded by Carcass guitarist Michael Amott along with Johan Liiva, who were both originally from the death metal band Carnage. The band has released ten studio albums, three live albums, three video albums and four EPs.
