RAMIN DJAWADI - WESTWORLD SEASON 2 LP

The Iranian German composer Ramin Djawadi created the musical pieces to the multiple award winning series Westworld. His musical craft can be heard in his demonstration of great versatility by alternating between aggressive action and intimate drama. Djawadi’s score evokes a sense of mystery while balancing the Western and electric elements of the series. With the introduction of the ‘The Raj’ and ‘Shogunworld’ he made some new versions of popular songs. “Paint it, Black” (The Rolling Stones), which already features in the first season, gets a total makeover with shakuhachi and taiko drums. He chose the same song to show the parallel world and parallel actions of season 2. Besides the haunting and uplifting main title composition by Ramin, he also composed impressive covers of “Seven Nation Army” (The White Stripes), “Heart-Shaped Box” (Nirvana) and “Runaway” (Kanye West). The themes are all related to the different characters and worlds in the series, showcasing the different emotions and beautiful landscapes.

JÓHANN JÓHANNSSON - Last and First Men LP (2x12")

(Re-Issue)

This reissued standard vinyl edition of Jóhannsson’s brilliant and seven years in the making work 'Last and First Men' is replacing the limited edition box set, that has originally been released with the album. Please note the Blu-Ray and art prints from the limited edition box set are not included. While composing haunting, elegiac concept albums of lost utopias and working for TV and film the Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson was thinking about a project on an even larger scale since 2010 - a multimedia work that would include his own visual concept, direction and music. Based on the cult science fiction novel by Olaf Stapledon, Jóhann Jóhannsson's opus magnum Last and First Men artfully combines music, film and narration from Tilda Swinton, sitting somewhere between fiction and documentary to form a poetic meditation on memory and loss.

Calibro 35 - Blanca (Original Soundtrack) 2x12"

CALIBRO 35 the band formed by Massimo Martellotta, Enrico Gabrielli, Luca Cavina, Fabio Rondanini and Tommaso Colliva - announce the release of the ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK OF BLANCA, the TV series produced by Lux Vide in collaboration with Rai Fiction, broadcast in prime time on Rai 1 starting from Monday 22 November. BLANCA, a crime drama directed by Jan Maria Michelini and based on the novel of the same name by Patrizia Rinaldi, tells the extraordinary journey of a young blind woman who has the opportunity to realize the dream she had since childhood: to become a police consultant.

Accompanying this journey, the original music of CALIBRO 35. The soundtrack will be available on limited edition Double LP next February 18th. 28 tracks in total (of which 6 exclusively on the vinyl format), which represent a selection of over 150 entirely composed by CALIBRO 35 to create the sound universe of BLANCA: an impressive and choral work, which has engaged all the components of the Calibro for a long time, giving the band the opportunity to develop a very vast soundscape ranging from retro funk of some diegetic music to modern crime "in Caliber 35 sauce" of investigative and tension scenes. The BLANCA soundtrack is a concentrate of the fifteen years of activity of the CALIBRO 35 and probably gives a glimpse of the seeds of what will come in the next.

Augusto Martelli - Nella misura in cui

Back in 1979, Italian director Piero Vivarelli made Nella Misura In Cui, a delicious erotic-exotic flick about a middle-aged, leftwing filmmaker who, being also an inveterate playboy, steals his son's girlfriend and takes her on a holiday in the Caribbean where, a few years earlier, he shot his breakthrough feature. In real life, Vivarelli's breakthrough feature was Il Dio Serpente (1970), a film whose sexy scenes have glued generations of viewers to the screen (actress Nadia Cassini has a cult following of her own) and whose superb original soundtrack marked Augusto Martelli's rise to fame.

Today, Four Flies Records is especially proud to present the first complete release of Martelli's sultry soundtrack to Nella Misura In Cui, where he expanded the tropical-voodoo sound of his earlier score to incorporate elements from disco, soul, and funk – idioms that became popular over the nine years between Vivarelli's two movies.

The soundtrack's main theme, "The Joint", will give you a perfect taste of Martelli's late-seventies sound: hippie lounge/beach vibes combined with a sort of flirting with the myths of youth culture, from free love to Third World utopias, to soft drugs. The album also features vocal and instrumental mixes of "Joining Together", an infectious dance-floor banger driven by a powerful rhythm section (percussion played on the upbeat, Tullio De Piscopo doing his magic on drums, and Pino Presti providing a killer bass line) and with airy string textures you wouldn't expect to hear in a disco track.

A super-groovy and soulful masterpiece from one of the standard bearers of erotic-exotic film music, Nella Misura In Cui is one of Four Flies' most exciting finds to date. You need this!

Henry Mancini - Breakfast At Tiffany's LP

The LP includes a bonus track taken from the actual movie soundtrack, but not present on the original LP. The track feature Audrey Hepburn on vocals with orchestral backing. "This effervescent soundtrack for Blake Edwards' adaption of Truman Capote's wistful novella propelled Mancini into the major league of Hollywood composers. Though there were other jazz-oriented arrangers working
in Hollywood at the time, none possessed Mancini's imagination and skill in orchestration." - All Music

Boy Harsher - The Runner LP

Boy Harsher

The Runner LP

12inchNUDE018LP
Nude Club
20.01.2022

Boy Harsher’s latest release, ‘The Runner (Original Soundtrack)’, is an exorcism.

Augustus Muller and Jae Matthews’ fifth release entitled ‘The Runner (Original Soundtrack)’ is not a traditional album. Rather, it is the soundtrack to a short film, also entitled ‘The Runner’. The film, written, produced, and directed by the duo, is a searching horror film, attached to a meta-style “documentary” about Boy Harsher’s recording process. The album includes several distinct components: cinematic arrangements, vocal features, and of course classic Boy Harsher dark pop.

Both the album and short film will be released in January 2022.

Last year, in the midst of the obvious chaos (the global pandemic), but additionally with Jae’s MS diagnosis, Augustus started working on moody, cinematic sketches. It was uncertain what these pieces would become, other than catharsis. In Jae’s period of convalescence, she kept thinking about this sinister character: a woman running through the woods. Together, they developed this idea further into a film. They were unable to tour, a drastic (and isolating) shift in their career, and making ‘club music’ did not feel right. But there was so much they needed to get out. The next Boy Harsher release would be a reconciliation of this time. The album processes feelings of universal anxiety and the confrontation of at home illness. A necessary expulsion during a time of unrest.

The album opens with “Tower”. The only track on ‘The Runner (Original Soundtrack)’ that Boy Harsher has previously played live, but never recorded. The song is an incantation, with its pulsing synth and Jae’s begging vocals. A spell about desire and impending destruction. Jae asks 'But are you honest? Do you trust? You trust in me?' Questions answered by her desperate yells. It starts both the film and the soundtrack with a heavy presence.

Two songs on ‘The Runner (Original Soundtrack)’ feature vocalists other than Jae Matthews. He allows a distinct sound for both vocalists and really leans into the possibility of divergent genres. “Machina”, is a HI-NRG homage, performed by Mariana Saldaña of Boan, and “Autonomy” a new wave tribute, performed by Cooper B. Handy of Lucy. Augustus Muller fully embraces the soundtrack ethos, by creating fictional ‘bands’ to generate additional content.

‘The Runner (Original Soundtrack)’ is exactly what’s in the name: a soundtrack. At first the shape of the release was nebulous - yet once realized the album is dynamic. It serves as the story of the running figure and her musical accompaniment. Those expecting a traditional release will be surprised, but not disappointed.

MASAHIKO SATO - BELLADONNA EP

From a clutch of thirteen lost cues which never appeared on the mythical Italian-only soundtrack
album to Belladonna Of Sadness, this limited 45rpm single finally combines the two elusive freak fuzz
tracks that aficionados unanimously agree to be the finest themes to feature on the film.

Encompassing virtually all of the free jazz and screaming psych signatures found on Masahiko’s own
albums and collaborations these two tracks also hear Sato experimenting with hard rock rhythms and
afro rock aesthetics devised to enhance the flamboyant and erratic folkloric storyboard of the film.

Available as part of RSD 2021 on limited edition 7” vinyl (1000 copies only)

Not content with liberating what many consider the rarest soundtrack on BOTH the cut-throat Italian and
Japanese collectors markets (with the repress of the music to Eiichi Yamamoto’s erotic-historic Pinky
anime psych cinematic feature Belladonna Of Sadness), Finders Keepers Records return to the composer
Masahiko Sato’s bottomless well in an attempt to retrieve the elixir which enticed us in the first place.
From a clutch of thirteen lost cues which never appeared on the mythical Italian-only soundtrack album,
this limited 45rpm single finally combines the two elusive freak fuzz tracks that aficionados unanimously
agree to be the finest themes to feature on the film.

Encompassing virtually all of the free jazz and screaming psych signatures found on Masahiko’s own
albums and collaborations, such as Amalgamation, Yamataifu and Rumour (all recorded around the same
era), these two tracks also hear Sato experimenting with hard rock rhythms and afro rock aesthetics
devised to enhance the flamboyant and erratic folkloric storyboard of the film. Not scared to deploy
radical 1970’s studio devices like guitar fuzz pedals and keyboard ring modulators Masahiko literally pulls
out all the stops with his organs, synths and pianos to deeply coat artist Kuni Fukai’s most eye-popping
scenes with his own sonic equivalent of hallucinogenic face melting mayhem. Complete with rhythm
players and soloists from his associated bands The New Herd and The Soundbreakers these two tracks
alone draw comparisons with the likes of Wolfgang Dauner (with whom Sato was a firm friend during
the recording of albums like Output and Fur) and will certainly strike similarities to Miles Davis’ Filmore/
Bitches Brew period, but never without his own distinct Japanese jazz flavour, thus placing these tracks
alongside other rare and unreleased psychedelic recordings such as J. A. Caesars music for the films of
Shuji Terayama and Toshi Ichiyanagi and April Fools music for Yoshishige Yoshida’s Eros Plus Massacre.

Continued comparisons to Alain Goraguer’s animation soundtrack for La Planete Sauvage can be
attributed to Sato’s use of Rhodes electric pianos, but as one of the first three people to import a Moog
synthesiser to Japan (a key player on the collectable Electro Keyboard Orchestra), Sato’s tracks on this
45 successfully convey his wash of electro enhanced layered noise that illustrates the films pivotal plague
scene in which Fukai paints an unforgiving black sea over the world to avenge the honour of the films
traumatised leading protagonist. Complete with the obligatory chase scene which provides a backdrop
for the films frenzied witch hunt segment Sato successfully turns his hand to a unique blend of Japanese
afro rock (which in its deft execution shares unlikely similarities with Finders Keepers’ Iranian anthem
Helelyos by Zia) proving the composer to be a versatile and forward-thinking musician who in the case of
this genuinely mythical (in all senses of the work) soundtrack has arguably created his unrivalled cinematic
masterpiece.
