A masterpiece of suspense and no-holds barred action, Puppet on a Chain was adapted from Alistair Maclean's 1969 novel and released in 1971. The action is underpinned by Italian soundtrack maestro Piero Piccioni's blistering Hammond-heavy score. Piccioni composed around 300 soundtracks over four decades, but was most prolific during the '60's and '70's, when he was sought out by directors including Francesco Rosi, Mario Monicelli, Alberto Lattuada, Luchino Visconti, Bernardo Bertolucci, Roberto Rossellini, Vittorio De Sica and Lina Wertmuller. A talented self-taught jazz musician, Piccioni's soundtrack to Puppet on a Chain retains effortless style, portraying a decadent 1970's Amsterdam overrun with drugs and organised crime.

The Fifth Element is essential Science Fiction cinema. And Eric Serra's music for for the film goes above and beyond the duties of your average film score. Not only is the soundtrack responsible for a wildly vast tonal spectrum - name another film that bounces from comedic montage, to straight-faced Opera, to action adventure in the span of 15 minutes - but he makes it feel, and sound effortless. It is a truly unique listening experience.

Konami Digital Entertainment - Silent Hill 2x12"

Mondo is proud present the premiere vinyl release of the soundtrack to the haunting 1999 original Playstation title, SILENT HILL.

Set in the eponymous town of SILENT HILL, you play as Harry Mason after a car crash leaves you stranded and searching for his missing adopted daughter, Cheryl. But this town is not what it seems, and Harry quickly discovers that his daughter's disappearance may be a connected to the town's mysterious cult activity. Mondo is proud present the premiere Vinyl release of the soundtrack to the haunting, original Playstation title Silent Hill. Don't let the tone of the plucky mandolin driven opening track fool you, this is one of the most haunting soundtracks we've ever released. Full of hair-raising, pulse-pounding, industrial cues - this soundtrack is the stuff of nightmares - which is important, since Silent Hill (and its subsequent sequels) has it's feet planted firmly in the legacy of survival horror gaming.

Pye Corner Audio - The Spiral

Pye Corner Audio return to Death Waltz Originals, with 6 brand new and exclusive tracks featuring his trademark sci-fi electronica. 'Do You Hear Them' pulses with a dance floor verve you've not yet heard from PCA bouncing along a killer 4/4 beat with a super melodic bass riff on top, 'The Spiral' begins with a riff on the classic Axel F bass synth and it's super hyped drums and refrain could be placed in any classic 80s action movie you already love. The other tracks are more contemplative and will sound familiar to anyone that owns any of the PCA Black Mill Tapes series.

Angelo Badalamenti - Blue Velvet

One of Entertainment Weeklies 100 Best Soundtracks Of All Time

A precursor to Lynch's Twin Peaks and Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet sets a template for ethereal noir soundtracks in a modern, quite disturbed age. The shock of the new fades by definition, but it has hardly done so in the case of Blue Velvet.' Dennis Lim, Salon, 2016

"The haunting soundtrack accompanies the title credits, then weaves through the narrative, accentuating the noir mood of the film." - John Alexander, The British Film Resource

You know that feeling you get when you're shook awake in mid-dream You were teetering on the ledge of a building, or maybe trying to free a butterfly from a spider web while wearing cricket gloves Perhaps you're running late for a train and your short cut takes you through a bad part of town, you're being followed but the ever changing reflection in the shop window is a younger you, a healthier person - with a better hairstyle. It's an anxiety thing, an off-kilter almost world, best summed up on the soundtrack for Blue Velvet, David Lynch's 1986 film that nods somnambulantly to the shadowy netherworld of film noir. Oedipal fantasies, finding a severed ear on your way home, voyeurism, crime and retribution, violence, they're all there in abundance in the movie, a rotten sleazy commercialism set off against a set of strange situations that the edge of the seat is never far away from. And what soundtrack would suit such an experience Of course a mix of orchestral pieces from composer and conductor Angelo Badalamenti inspired by Shoshtakovich's 15th Symphony (which rumour has it Lynch played onset to create the 'mood') mixed up with trashy Hammond-led boogie and overblown baroque pop from Roy Orbison and Ketty Lester, suitable for any dive's jukebox. That awkward mix plays itself out in Isabella Rossellini as Dorothy's rendition of the song 'Blue Velvet' that melds beautifully and indeed hauntingly into 'Blue Star', a broken piece of vintage pop. Similarly, the track 'Going Down To Lincoln' with its narrative audio shtick takes all of the previously-mused elements to create a perfectly disjointed travelogue. The soundtrack album starts with Bernard Hermann-styled Hitchcock-esque strings and violin slashes, which dally before deconstructing the themes and motifs into a disturbing procession that climaxes with Julee Cruise's funereal 'Mysteries Of Love', a fittingly titled epilogue to an epic that concludes with the hero's true love's reality of a simplistic birdsong dream from earlier in the film. It's a cyclical trip that feeds directly back to the beginning and, yes, there's that severed ear again, now ant infested laying on the ground, proving that dreams become real, or is it reality that becomes a dream

It Comes at Night is an upcoming horror film directed and written by Trey Edward Shults (Krisha) and starring Joel Edgerton (Loving). The film follows a man, his wife and son secure within a desolate home as an unnatural threat terrorizes the world. Their tenuous domestic order is tested with the arrival of a young family seeking refuge from the doom outside. Despite the best intentions of everyone, paranoia boils over as the terrors outside creep ever-closer.

The original score to It Comes at Night was composed by Brian McOmber (Krisha), a former member of acclaimed indie band Dirty Projectors. McOmber's score utilizes synths, lonesome strings and the occasional tribal drum, which conjures a kind of primal darkness in the music that is both foreboding and deeply unsettling. A rising star to keep an ear out for, McOmber delivers a score that will grip you and never let go.

American Gods is an American television series developed by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green for Starz based on the novel of the same name by author Neil Gaiman. The series focuses on Shadow Moon, a man serving three years in prison with only days remaining on his sentence. Shadow is given an unexpected early release after a personal tragedy and finds himself next to a man named Wednesday, who offers Shadow a job. Wednesday appears to be nothing but a con artist who needs Shadow as a bodyguard, but is in fact a deity. Wednesday is making his way across America gathering all the old gods, who have now incorporated themselves into American life, to confront the New Gods, including Media and Technology, who grow stronger every day. The first of eight episodes of American Gods Season 1 debuted via Starz on April 30th, 2017 to rave reviews and one million viewers.

The score to American Gods was composed by Brian Reitzell (Lost in Translation, Hannibal). As eclectic and mercurial as the beloved subject matter of the series, the music is a perfect companion to the visuals on screen yet stands tall in its own right. The soundtrack also features original songs composed for the series as well as classic covers sung by Mark Lanegan, Debbie Harry of Blondie, Shirley Manson from Garbage and others. Similar to Big Little Lies, Game Of Thrones and Stranger Things, American Gods features music as an essential element of the show.

Sonor Music Editions is thrilled to release another terrific jam and a very obscure Italian Library record originally released in 1969 on RRC label (Droga, Traffico, Viaggio Attraverso I Problemi Dell'Uomo series etc.). Music is signed by the great guitar players and composers Angelo Baroncini and Bruno Battisti D'Amario, unmissable guitar man of Maestro Ennio Morricone. CRAZY early Fuzz beats with fast Western swings, Experimental Rock distractions, musical rhythmic movements with totally insane acid guitar & sitar riffs and a huge Underground Psychedelic mood. A truly inspired and deep session recorded for some impossible TV synchronisation purpose. Holy grail alert and original sleazy STEREO recording restored sound.

Maria Teresa Luciani - Sounds Of The City

Welcome to the parallel musical universe of Miss Maria Teresa Luciani, a landscape of sonic architecture and theoretical composition constructed by a family of engineers that reinvented the wheel before the vehicle even began the journey. Imagine, if you will, the musical equivalent of Peter Cook's Archigram group or the soundtrack to Charles and Ray Eames' private sketchbooks, hinting at a new municipal, utopian metropolis just hours before the blueprints are suspiciously misplaced by the courier and mainstream pop building regulations piss on our asbestos bonfire. These 1972 constructions of progressive, cyclic, proto-industrial colour music were never intended for public habitation. These are the Sounds Of The City in a galaxy far, far beneath our radar and above your expectations that was never built. Pseudo-futurist pop music Cubic folk Tape-op-art Sì, grazie!

Before the needle hits the first groove, the story of Maria Teresa Luciani reads like an Alphaville caper full of foreign intrigue, low intensity identification fraud, secret codes, family bonds, mistrust and wanderlust... Naturally, you are holding a genuine Finders Keepers article. To say this rare Italian concept album is unbelievable' is justified on multiple levels. This multi-storey storage facility of found sounds, radiophonic samples, tape loops, early electronic music experiments, mechanical folk, cinematic vision, sound design, educated music theory, political pop and high concept art-as-noise successfully layers more musical ideas within its unique structure than one would think possible for a solo artist within any musical genre. This is why Sounds Of The City presents us with a brand new genre defying compositional framework, pre-dating sampling culture, cut 'n' paste plunderism and industrial music in the process. Pre-digital, indefinable and genuinely unbelievable. But who is Maria Teresa Luciani On hearing this record respected collectors and enthusiasts have suggested the female answer to Basil Kirchin,' or the Italian Daphne Oram'. Both with justified cause. Mystery, myth, legend, teacher, artist, inventor, author, musician, psychologist, daughter, and (possibly most importantly) sister.

A classic soundtrack to one of Alfred Hitchcock's masterpieces: Psycho, scored by one of the greatest composers to ever grace the silver screen, Bernard Herrmann (Citizen Kane, Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, etc.) Herrmann began writing scores for Alfred Hitchcock in 1955, but the apex of this collaboration came undoubtedly with the scoring of 1960's Psycho, where Herrmann's amazing ability to set the mood has made the soundtrack to Psycho perhaps the most memorable in the history of cinema (who can recall the shower scene without recalling the sound of shrieking violins). Pep Llopis - Poiemusia La Nau Dels Argonautes

This record is meant to be enjoyed like a seascape. It offers a Mediterranean journey, one that Ulysses, Aeneas, and Jason with his Argonauts charted first and Valencian artist, Pep Llopis, retraced and retread — from the islands of Menorca to Santorini. All of his experiences are aboard this vessel of sound: no format in mind, no course but the chasm within self. While Poiemusia La Nau Dels Argonautes materializes at this moment as an album, another object suits Pep's project: Lewis Carroll's Map of the Ocean' from his The Hunting of the Snark. It's a simple illustration: the thin outline of a blank rectangle that represents the sea with no trace of land. Carroll offers this empty space as an object that all can understand, a container for possibility. Likewise, Poiemusia offers a musical language that any listener can understand. Untethered to the meaning of words, one is set adrift and free in minimalist sound and traditional music. Llopis, who often composed for dance, originally wrote Poiemusia for a performance at the Poiemusia festival (the Greek contraction of poetry and music). Peer composers, Carles Santos and Wim Mertens, also participated in the festival, which took place over several days at the Teatro Princesa in Valencia. Llopis paired his newly formed avant-garde compositions with the poems of fellow Valencian, Salvador Jàfer.

In the studio presentation of Poiemusia, voices softly converse, only to evaporate. The poetry is incanted by the poet himself. Jàfer enunciates at the verge of song, drawing dimension from his Mediterranean travels. He is accompanied by Montse Anfruns' vaporous voice. She extends the roll of her r's and the hiss of each s as if casting a spell of Salacia. Pep bathes their conversational performance in slight delays and reverb, allowing their voices to dissolve into an ocean of sound.

Llopis was influenced by minimal American composers like Steve Reich and La Monte Young. He embraces the melodic sides of these masters in the winds of El Vell Rei De La Serp' and the tender piano on Nits de cristall.' You will find yourself submerged in tonality on tracks like Jardins Aquàtics' and La Nau Dels Argonautes' which have a kinship to Philip Glass or Daniel Lentz. Each piece extends from 5 to almost 14 minutes. The music gently laps against listening skin— sometimes placid, sometimes shimmering. Ripples of sound swell and quicken. Flutes like schools of fish. The spray of chimes. Taught strings break like the shore. Tingling, undulating synths. The record cover acts as a map, tracing the forms of the original art and providing the poems in Catalana and Spanish. Once bathed in these sounds one will emerge like Carroll's map: a perfect and absolute blank.' Poiemusia La Nau Dels Argonaute emerges in vinyl and digital formats on May 19, 2017 through Freedom To Spend.

Yo-Yo Ma Plays the Music of John Williams is a 2002 album of John Williams compositions performed by Yo-Yo Ma and the Recording Arts Orchestra of Los Angeles.

For an instrument with such rich expressive powers, the cello has long suffered from a shortage of great concertos. Leave it to John Williams, the composer best known for his popular, emotionally charged scores to Star Wars, ET, and many other blockbuster movies, to ride to the rescue with a new "Cello Concerto", an intense, expressive, and rhythmically vital offering tailor-made for Yo-Yo Ma's dexterous touch.

Like the composer's "Violin Concerto", this one is imbued with impressionistic textures and colors, but there's also a hard-driving, modern edge. Call it 21st-century Ravel. Williams wrote the concerto with Ma in mind, and it's a test of even Ma's formidable technique. It also boasts powerful orchestral writing, especially for the percussion and brass.

Three other premieres are included on the album as well. The "Elegy for Cello and Orchestra" is a lyrical and atmospheric tone poem, with shades of Fauré at every turn of phrase. The expressionistic "Three Pieces for Solo Cello", though, seem more akin to Benjamin Britten's solo cello suites in their abstract, concentrated intensity. Heartwood is another tender and sensitive reverie. It gradually builds in strength but ends as it began, with a whisper of tranquil serenity.

Ma's virtuosity is dazzling, and his engagement with the music is typically deep. He makes clear that Williams's music isn't just for the movies, indeed, with his new concerto, Williams has done the cello a great service.

Yo-Yo Ma Plays the Music of John Williams celebrates its 15th anniversary this year and is now finally available on vinyl for the first time. A 4 page booklet with an extensive story written by John Williams is included.

Casualties of War is a 1989 American war drama film directed by Brian De Palma, with a screenplay by David Rabe, based on the actual events of the incident on Hill 192 in 1966 during the Vietnam War. The movie stars Michael J. Fox and Sean Penn. An article written by Daniel Lang for The New Yorker in 1969, and a subsequent book were the movie's primary sources.

Steven Spielberg said to Columbia Pictures executive Dawn Steel, "You'll be thinking about this for a week." Quentin Tarantino has hailed the film as "the greatest film about the Vietnam War."

Morricone's score was nominated for a Golden Globe.

Ennio Morricone (10 November 1928) composed and arranged the score of the movie. He has made scores and soundtracks for more than 500 film and television productions, making him one of the most influential and best-selling film composers since the late 1950s.

This release is available in the Ennio Morricone Classic Soundtrack series and will be strictly limited to 1.000 numbered copies on transparent vinyl.

The disturbing soundtrack of the same film directed by Alberto De Martino in 1985 and composed by Francesco De Masi, author and Roman arranger already famous for classical b-movie soundtracks such as Lo Squartatore Di New York (The New York Ripper) and Fuga Dal Bronx (Escape From The Bronx). For a long time associated with 'genre cinema', the man had an innate passion for primitive electronics. A long suite divided into 14 movements that best describe the climate of tension and the upcoming deadlines of the featured film, a Gothic thriller in the orbit of meta-horror. The music - sometimes a bit of a timbral but often deliberately descriptive and overwhelming - pin of synths and analogue machines, capable of defining the desperate plot of the film. A classic fully restored on LP and also available in a very small run on colored vinyl.

Hans Zimmer's score propels us into Lecter's twisted psyche, evoking an atmosphere of foreboding and dread. The soundtrack alludes to many classical pieces, from the delicate "Aria da capo" from Bach's Goldberg Variations, performed by Glenn Gould, to an off-key, subtly disturbing Blue Danube, with nods towards Mozart, and mixed with Zimmer's atmospheric electronica and haunting string melodies. Anthony Hopkins delivers three suitably chilling Lector monologues. Part of four new to vinyl reissues. This has original artwork with printed inner sleeves. Guido & Maurizio De Angelis - Il Grande Racket (aka The Big Racket)

Now for the first time on vinyl, Four Flies Records is proud to present an unmissable Eurocrime soundtrack by Guido & Maurizio De Angelis, composed in 1976 and considered to be one of the genre's finest offerings directed by Enzo G. Castellari.
Perhaps the most forceful OST from the Italian duo, IL GRANDE RACKET consists of fuzz distortion and electronic effects from the beginning to the end. This sonic gem is also enriched with psychedelic flutes, obsessive rhythms, and percussion which results with a totally prog-rock and psych-funk score that perfectly describes the main elements of the film: action, tension and violence.
Remastered from the original master tapes preserved for decades in the C.A.M. archives, and augmented with exclusive liner notes by Davide Pulici (Nocturno Cinema) and stunning original artwork created by Luke Insect, this edition will be a true pleasure of the senses for any and all soundtrack lovers.

Riz Ortolani - Si Puo' Essere Piu' Bastardi Dell'ispettore Cliff (aka Mafia Junction)

Previously unreleased full edition for this explosive jazz-funk score by Italian Maestro Riz Ortolani, created in 1973 for the crime-movie Si può essere più bastardi dell'ispettore Cliff' (also known as Mafia Junction').
Only two tracks from this OST were published at the time in a now extremely rare C.A.M. 7-inch, but that was enough to create the legend...
Four Flies is honored to had access to the original C.A.M. master tapes, so to present here, just your pleasure, the complete session for the first time!
Just expect one of the funkiest piece of the whole Ortolani's career: car chases, sex scenes, vicious kills are served here by amazing drum breaks, fat bass lines, captivating horn section and wonderful guitar effects.

Totally outstanding session, and a real new classic for all crime-funk lovers!

  • B4: Siracusa: Appunti D'Epoca
  • B5: Notturno Breve
  • B6: Lasciando La Casa Antica

Among the few Italian prog groups who survived the '70s, Banco del Mutuo Soccorso belongs to an even smaller circle of bands that never followed any musical trends all over the years. Such as PFM, they entered the EL&P record label Manticore roster, and tried to open up to the foreign market with the album "Banco" (1975).
This operation did not give the expected results though and, once back to Italy, the band released the following year, again on Manticore, "Garofano Rosso", soundtrack to a movie by Luigi Faccini. First, but not unique, Banco's all-instrumental work (followed two years later by "... di terra"), it also sounds perfect as a stand-alone work: pop, rock, folk, jazz and classical music come together in a complex and unstructured style, dynamic, unpredictable and yet affordable at the same time.
The film went virtually unnoticed, and consequently its soundtrack didn't get due recognition at the time of its release. "Garofano Rosso" is now reissued on VM label on colored vinyl in a faithful reproduction of the original LP: a unique opportunity to discover a hidden gem of Italian progressive rock!
