Techno Vinyl New Releases - News

It was perhaps only a matter of time before Si Begg rocked up on Central Processing Unit. Now an esteemed veteran of British beat tracks, Begg's name has become synonymous with quality club productions ever since he burst onto the scene three decades ago. In the years since, Begg has released scores of records on some of the most prestigious labels in the business - Tresor, NovaMute, his own Mosquito. As such, his debut on the Sheffield imprint whose name has become a sign of quality since it launched in 2012 seems like a wholly logical progression for one of electro's most consistently excellent producers.

Begg's casual mastery of his sound is shown off by the fact that he doesn't over-egg the pudding of the Energie Electrique EP. Rather than doing sonic cartwheels to get people's attention, Energie Electrique is characterised by the way Begg adds or subtracts elements to sturdy grooves. It's an approach which makes for a collection of tunes that manage to bring the boogie from the off while they also hide all sorts of aural Easter eggs amidst the mix.

On opening cut 'Energy', a droning start full of crisp drum programming soon develops into a head spinning electro groove reminiscent of Kraftwerk's Computer World. An acid-laced bassline waxes and wanes, modulating in intensity across several minutes as Begg sprinkles in percussion, synth blurts and vocoder vocals. It's a slyly insistent rump-shaker, and the - ahem - energy that the track provides carries through into following number 'Buckfunk Beatz'. This joint begins with a gnarly, chattering synth sound before the sizzle and snap of a broken-beat kick-hat loop locks into place. While still very Kraftwerkian, 'Buckfunk Beatz' also has the playful grizzle of contemporary practitioners like Cardopusher and Begg's fellow CPU operator Silicon Scally.

Things switch up at the start of Energie Electrique's second side. Rather than rolling out a high-octane groove, Begg delivers a low-slung mid-tempo roller called 'MS10 Machine Funk'. The programming on the kick drum here could almost pass for a dirty south hip-hop production if Begg didn't lace it with such a strangely compelling use of the oscillator - sometimes squealing, sometimes squawking, sometimes wobbling, always thrilling. The mix flecked with chordal stabs, 'MS10 Machine Funk' is a masterclass in combining danceable beats with the quest for thrilling sounds that is so often the mark of a truly musical mind.

To round things out, Begg brings us back to the beginning. 'Electro P1 B' is a delightfully dystopian bit of Drexciyanism. Piston-hiss drum programming, nervy atonal synth nodules, some cavernous reverb deployment - this is a body-mover if ever you heard one, and one executed with all the style, aplomb and panache you'd expect of Begg.

Si Begg takes his Central Processing Unit bow with the Energie Electrique EP, a quartet of club tracks to rival anything in his vast and vaunted discography.

The Chicago-based artist, real name Andres Ordonez, has been a fixture in US house music circles since the '90s, releasing a string of EPs on labels like Sistrum, Semantica and Sound Signature. Theo Parrish's outlet, which last year put out a live mix from Ordonez, will handle his first album.

New versions of Tensal's 'Opposite Inertia' EP, with a remake of his own and contributions from Mike Parker and Pangaea.

New versions of Tensal's 'Opposite Inertia' EP, with a remake of his own and contributions from Mike Parker and Pangaea.

One the most distinctive artists in techno, Mike Parker, combines his signature, modulated bassline and sharp claps with the off-kilter rhythm of 'Inertia 1'. Tensal's remake of 'Inertia 2' is direct, peak-time gear. The synth line is kept front and centre, the beat is heavy and expertly arranged. Pangaea, of Hessle Audio, switches up the broken rhythm of 'Inertia 3' and adds the kind of unusual touches that make his records stand out.

Mastered by Giuseppe Tillieci aka Neel @ EnissLab Studio, Rome. Pressed at at Optimal Media. Packaged in a house sleeve. All artwork designed by Christopher Honeywell.

Power duo Vil & Cravo debut on Klockworks with a high-spirited 3 tracker showcasing their warm approach inspired in soul and funk tracks from the 80’s and early 00’s.

Both behind Portugal’s freshest collective Hayes, the duo started their project 6 years ago with the idea of bringing colour, light and groove to the scene.

Fusing funky techno with soulful vocals, this EP reminds us of the carefully chosen euphoric moments Ben Klock drops in his sets with hope to get them back this summer.

Increasingly known for his careful curation during his sets, Eric Cloutier has since turned his focus on overseeing his own label, Palinoia. From the Greek word meaning "the obsessive repetition of an act until it is perfect or mastered," after twenty-years of digging through shelves and collecting only the finest techno, house, and ambient, Cloutier has decided to set his sights on helping nurture the lesser known, unknown, or those just needing a helpful nudge to take their sound to a wider audience. Starting things off is an EP from Eric himself, culled from years of meticulous patience in the studio and finally deemed worthy of consumption. The Heuristic EP is a cathartic expression from Cloutier, a release of stresses and of an idea that sprang up shortly after his move from NYC to Berlin a few years ago. Ranging from the more hypnotic to mental to dubby, all three tracks provide those familiar with Eric's DJ sets with a strong sense of his style translated in to track form

Much may have changed over a two-decade period, but Drumcode's commitment to releasing the scene's most cutting-edge and refined techno remains resolute.
With releases last year from heavy hitters such as Adam Beyer, Alan Fitzpatrick, Luigi Madonna, Jel Ford, dubspeeka and Mark Reeve, the label continues on in 2016 in much the same way; bringing fail-safe, club-ready music to the techno community.
When Pig&Dan decided to join forces, they began a truly prolific production schedule establishing their reputation as producers of pulsating electronic music that straddled dark house and high-energy techno, whilst creating their signature style of twisted and experimental breakdowns. Since those early days, they have created a repertoire that not many can match and have constantly been releasing their music on the most respected labels and playing at the best events worldwide. Pig&Dan follow up to their outstanding first EP on Drumcode with 'Chemistry'.
Compromising of three tracks the mood fluctuates with each record to create a well-balanced, dynamic EP. Chemistry is a dreamy listening platform that mixes cyclic synth lines and stabs to crescendo into a late night imagination. The other two tracks are on the harder tip with their thunderous kick drums and disorientated sounds that provide a different edge to the EP with a harder, peak time sound.

A true Cherrymoon classic from Twister with Metamorphosis Of Narcotics, but with a twitch. The release comes with a brand new bonus remix by Danny Corten and the B-side is blessed with Dave Angel’s rework of the follow-up single Sequence 23. Original released in the UK but became a techno bomb in the mid 90s on the Belgian Nitric label. A true underground tune that made waves in the Belgian techno clubs and is still a hot tune at events.

Hedonism in its purest form means nothing but adjusting one s life and ambition towards pleasure and joy as well as the prevention of pain and sorrow. Following that concept, Wice s first EP takes the listener along on a journey of extremes: persistently strolling between sensual desire, ecstasy and lust as well as the deepest abysses of human sensitivities.
Coherently, just kiddin drags the listener right into Wice s universe of fabulous oppositions without any prior warning: the Peak Time Killer, inspired by the love of Detroit Techno of the 90ies, exhibits irrepressible energy, velocity and surprising twists and turns. Driven by the progressive drive of the drum patterns, the voyager, trapped in a mesh of percussions, wanders confused and disoriented on dance floors looking for support and, as if out of the blue, finally gets released by the warm synthline and gently taken by the hand. Simply just kiddin.
When legs are broken, things have to be done can be described as a small masterpiece of urban, intelligent dance music. The composition, which ranges in between complexity and simplicity, with its breaking beats in combination with spheric pads shows up the necessity that one should, despite setbacks, consistently remind oneself that life, love and music reveal their most beautiful aspects in a balanced and smooth flow.
The eponymous track hedonism draws a painting of obscure and rugged techno landscapes, which attract the listener magically, even though their beauty and grace can only be assumed at first glance. Once identified, the shimmering pads, the forceful bassline and the impulsive percussions unfold a world riddled with the most beautiful abysses and animality hedonism in its purest and most sinful form alike.
With blind certainty a downtempo piece rounds off the EP, which is supposed to be comprehended as a reminder for all hedonists that blind trust may have positive as well as negative consequences.
The hopeful basic mood of the song, however, always lets the light at the end of the tunnel shine through, which emphasizes the optimistic exit of Wice s world of hedonism.

Umwelt knows his craft. From no-nonsense acid-drenched electro assaults to more thought-provoking works, the Frenchman can shred speakers as well as soothe souls. The two sides of the New Flesh boss' sound combine as he returns to Shipwrec with the five tracks of Collapsar.

In the epic Galactic Empire, beats are lashed with punishing acid rinses as a bold cinematic backdrop takes form. Collapsar maintains the grandeur, broad expansive chords stretching above a plain of tight percussion.

A frigid stuttering synthline introduces Reflectivity, a line that breaks into a horizon-searching melody punctuated by crisp rhythms and arcing keys. The immersive quality of Umwelt comes to the fore in the sweeping soundtrack of Redemption Ark. That calm is cracked wide open with the frenetic finale; Day Zero incises from the outset, drums cutting into bulwark of bass before a barrage of keys attack.

Psyk's Non Series imprint welcomes a pair of vital techno talents for a new split EP: both Yogg and Distant Echoes provide two tracks each to make for a powerful release.Yogg is part of the Parallax label crew and hails from Tel-Aviv. His techno turns your mind inside out with its long and hypotonic grooves. Growling synths wrap endlessly round the drums and the whole thing takes you ever deeper down the rabbit hole. Rassco is his second track, and has rubbery drums pilling up the pressure as a lead synth repeats a riff over and over again that will zone you right out. Then comes Distant Echoes, another techno innovator who has landed on Rodhad's Dystopian and the Out-ER label with this dark, bleak sounds. Perspective is first from him and is a hunched over and driving deep techno cut with hulking great kicks. It's a sparse, empty landscape that is eerie and unsettling and keeps you locked for the duration. Relativity closes things out in psychedelic techno fashion with freeform synths rising and falling in an alien sound world deep in outer spac
