Taking the baton from MW for the second volume of Casting Shadows we invite The Hague mainstay, Intergalactic Gary, to let us peep into his crate of secret gems.

A true music archaeologist and one of the leading lights of the Netherlands’ West Coast scene for over 30 years, his knowledge spans across genres and decades.

Opening proceedings on the A side, we go back to one of Andrea Benedetti’s acid classics – this time revisited at 33RPM, morphing it into a slow-burning dancefloor grinder.

On the B-side, Italo disco duo GAG get a re-airing of their lost classic Flyin’ Bolero. QUAD, the UK duo formed by Mark Carroll and Pete Diggens, closes the EP with a deep breakbeat excursion originally released on Kinetix.

Having established himself as a key member of the Voitax roster with a love letter to the Orgazoid on his last outing, Berlin-based, UK-born producer Cressida returns to the fold with yet another genre blurring masterclass in formless electronica as the forward facing German imprint continues to provide a platform for a number of dance music's most innovative artists. Finding himself spending his time in lockdown reflecting on his formative years within the darker strands of London's varied underground electronic music scene, the Sambo EP serves as potent reminder of the stunning level of diversity that can be found within the Capital as Cressida incorporates the bass fuelled sounds of his youth into a series of DnB speckled cuts that defy conventional classification. Housing the power of jungle, dubstep and grime within the kind of gritty heads-down framework that has become his calling card in recent times, Cressida's carefully crafted blend of terse percussion, piercing tones and sonorous samples showcase the shadowy producer's talents at their eclectic best.

EOD returns to bbbbbb with a fresh EP entitled ‘Zone’, perfectly demonstrating the producers buzzing and lush signature sound. On Zone EOD debuts brand new material, continuing to blur the lines between genres with a hard-hitting five-track release complete with complex drum arrangements, ethereal soundscapes, enchanting melodies and dystopian brushed sequences.

Some of these tracks date back to the Berlin days, but ended up being finished in The Hague. A sort of melancholic electro-disco trip with post-goth-punk-wave guitars and a guest appearance from AC Meadows. Super happy to have the first Maiovvi dance album out since 'Driftmusic' - The masters sound great and I'm sure the vinyl will sound equally as good.

This record is about absence. Absence of change, of better days, of delights and pleasures that are still to be invented. Longing for better times, missing something that hasn’t happened yet but needs to come, being nostalgic of the future like a cold empty bed longs for warm bodies. Cause the present is resisting, holding on to the comfortable violence of the status quo, closing the castle’s gates ; trying to keep its land, its power and its crown. We can already feel the breeze of the unknown, the urge of better times slowly unfolding, the flames getting stronger.But we’re not there yet. The road will be long and exhausting. I feel like I have been waiting for you in this cold empty bed for a hundred years already and I can’t wait to set it on fire.

December returns to Veyl with ‘A Hundred Years Without You’,

Mysterious and masked techno talent Paul Villard unveils more of his musical weaponry on the Lone Romantic label this August.

Nothing is known about this artist but from the fact that, “strange and unusual superhuman powers and abilities” came to him after a “gamma accident.” He has released on Blind Allies and Applied Research, remixed Carl Finlow and is a producer with a cinematic electro sound.

Futuristic opener 'Side Effects’ is a bumping electro cut with a stuttering drum pattern and squelchy synth funk from another planet. ‘Submarine Limousine’ keeps up the cyborg styles with a crisp electro groove that is run through by sci-fi vocals and effects, while ’Fluid Dynamics’ is all watery synth droplets and fractured vocals panning about the mix. Taught bass stabs keep you on your toes and make for an otherwordly robot disco vibe.

The second half of this well-crafted EP starts with the glowing pads and creepy atmospheres of
‘Bioluminescence’, a classic Drexcyian electro jam that charges hard and deep into the cosmos. ‘Neon Death’ is an explosion of coruscated synth lines and bumping bass, tripped out machine sounds and warped electro-techno before closer ‘C.A.R.R.I.O.N.’ zones you out with intense ambient pads and modulated synths that are restless and paranoid.

With this majestic EP, Paul Villard paints and vivid picture of some distant interplanetary world.

With genius “Elektrik Dancefloor”, you’ll feel like boarding the Enterprise starship in search of new worlds, lifeforms and civilizations. As an introduction, feverish “Back To The Roots” From the first notes contrasting musical textures, ascending the EP to a higher place thanks to brainwashing sequences, some evolving modulations adding three dimension to a song colored with crystal clear synth waves over alienating lyrics and pounding beats. Absolutely stunning! Surrounded by a furiously positive atmosphere, funky “Kinematiks” instantly following tele-transports us at light speed into a ecstatic trip through time and space. Acidic loops combined with retro discoish drums, eerie vocals and haunting melodies characterize a gem that will create a real drama on the dancefloor. Ace! Much anticipating “Future & Future” opens the flipside with hypnotic percussions enhanced by intricate vocals taken from B-movies fused into delayed arpeggios and eerie filters. Final song “Cycle Event” signs a bewitching drum workout laced with dystopian pads and sonic frequencies while some hot modular swirls dilute into a tense bass line. You may definitively loose your mind in this vast and strange universe. Top notch! At a rhythm of one EP every two months, the Italian imprint has never been as much prolific as this year. Tresor's newest release features BNJMN on Body Reflections Pt. 1.

The four track EP captures a uniquely subdued mood that resides at the nexus of ambient dance music, and that integrates seamlessly with Tresor's penchant for restrained and dub-inflected techno.

Each track on the EP introduces symmetry and rhythm in the form of organic percussion. "Overskies" and "Enceladus" are more lethargic and ethereal, each blanketed with discordant melodies and arcing synth lines. "Hadal Zone" is more dance-oriented - here, a sophisticated interplay of percussive elements loop over plaintive vocals and soft harmonies. "Syzygy" then brings the EP to a techno-focused close with driving kicks, oscillating synths, and repeating minor chords.

Body Reflections Pt. 1 is deeply illustrative of BNJMN's affinity for creating nuanced and delicately balanced layers, and a culmination of his vast experience.

Collector is the solo project of Jason Campbell who resides in Newcastle, Australia. Forced Extraction is his first release for Beat Concern following an LP on the Melbourne-based Drawing Heat, and tapes for seminal labels, Night People and Clan Destine Records. Campbell has honed his unique take on experimental techno over the last few years by building compositions with all analogue hardware and modular synthesis. Forced Extraction sees Collector at his most incisive, carving out four pummelling tracks across the 12". Piercing feedback, foreboding synth movements and bass drones are anchored by rigid drum programming with an attention to heavy industrial rhythms. An exciting peek into the coal-face of underground Australian electronics.

Straight from the depths of the burgeoning Austin, Texas weirdo scene, JT Whitfield delivers a six track mini-lp for L.I.E.S. after an impressive run of releases for Chondritic Sound. Whitfield follows suit where he left off on his cut from last years Eminent Domain comp. with absolutely punishing slow beatdriven industrial electronics. This is for true fans of metal on metal music as these tracks desperately plod and grind, ripping apart everything in sight. The appropriate soundtrack to endtimes.

Orlando Voorn Comes Through With A Hi-tech Soul Future Classic. Original Mix Is A Prince-in-detroit Tinged Electro Floor Filler. The album includes the most direct and propulsive Shinoby material yet. There is a functional connection to dance music here, honing in on the celestial bliss's human element embedded within a sound fraught with inhumanity.The music is emotional, hostile, dark, grungy, dissenting, acidic and energetic. Mostly based on repetitive patterns, the distorted yet perfectly balanced percussion drills through the concrete warehouse walls long into the night. The not occasional use of distortion brings the dense atmosphere to near suffocating limits.

Scand resident Steve Allman brings together the fast-paced sounds of Detroit and London electro in his debut EP on EON Records.
A key part of London’s longest running electro night Scand for ten years, the south London producer has played alongside the genre’s most important figures The Advent, Detroit in Effect
and Andrea Parker included - delivering consistently high velocity all vinyl sets. Allman’s approach to the dancefloor comes out in its full majesty here on Brainwave. Driven with analogue bass from the Novation Bass Station 2 that’s central to his studio set up, the EP is an uptempo booty moving selection of tracks. Sonically the EP is an expression of Allman’s ear for fast-paced 90s era Detroit electro and the UK’s rave edged take on the sound calling upon freaky synth work, heavy bass patterns and eerie rave stabs to colour the release. What we hear on Brainwaves across the three original tracks is pacey, buoyant and sub-weighted - a record ready to be played loud when the systems are turned back on. Closest influence and mentor Sync 24 drops a bomb of a remix for the title track Brainwave, weaponising it a step further adding a deadly acid scrawl.

Nested Structure is the first Great Circles release from artists outside of Philadelphia. THRIVE are Tetsuya Yoshida and Hitoshi Kojima. They both grew up in the North Kanto area of Japan. They first met at the club run by Tetsuya Yoshida called SOUND A BASE NEST, which is known as having the best sound system in the North Kanto area. In 2007, the duo started their DJ / Producing unit THRIVE. Previous releases have included a split 12' with Keia Yano for Japanese label Struct, and recent solo releases by Hitoshi for Always Human Tapes and for his own label Ambivalent Deviation. This record almost didn't happen! --- Tetsuya and Hitoshi were picking up Great Circles records in Japan and, having periodically communicated with each other about music, they sent us the Struct 12' to check out. While
cleaning out the back of the car a few months later, the presumably empty record mailer was about to land in
the recycle bin when we fortunately discovered a demo CD of unreleased THRIVE material inside. We drove
around listening to it and week later we agreed to release a 12'. The music on the Nested Structure 12' is dark, foreboding, even outwardly threatening. It's hypnotic, textural and rhythmically complex.

Mint Tea proudly presents Dansolos Jungle. A deliciously velvet blend of tracks sourced from the UK and Georgia, nurtured and crafted by producers WD41, Toke and El Choop.

As we head into Dansolso's Jungle we first encounter a slurry of dub-techno, infused with WD41's love for tape these giant sounds represent his debut on the label. Next we encounter Toke, based in Tbilisi he has mastered the subtitles of the dance floor developing his own unique flavour of a classic style, for MT004 he supplies perfect twilight accompaniments. El Choop based in the UK has been honing his craft relentlessly since his introduction to the scene, Skeleton Crew reflecting this with its polished hard hitting style sure to satisfy many a dance floor.

BLIQ unveil a debut release by Greek producer Aphelion aka George Konstantoulakis (member of Equations Collective). "Volatile Radiance" sets the pace with otherworldly futurism, while "Cosmic Vibrations" completes the A-side with addictive bass notes & crystallised melodics. On the flip, legendary electro producer Silicon Scally (Carl Finlow) follows a menacing cyberfunk route, while Aphelion's original, concludes the release with an interplanetary rhythm track interpretation.

entred round the songs of principal writer James Howard, Gobstopper is the compelling and cinematic result of two years work with Ursula Russell (who penned two tracks), Dimitrios Ntontis (Dimi the Greek), legendary producer Capitol K, and a host of other beautiful characters. Recorded at London's vital Total Refreshment Studio, this is an album rich in its production, every track exquisitely delivered with layers of harmony and instrumentation. The cover art is painted by artist, Phillip Reeves, taking Mingus' The Clown as its starting point.
Gobstopper represents an expansion of sound and a widening of subject: it is an album sung from inside the gluttonised belly of up-for-grabs capitalist Britain, swallowing up whatever is in its way: a jukebox on the coast, 'see-through wheels on a see-through motorway', Soho square policemen and silent discos. The record roams like a child on a sugar high turning over stones, sometimes finding compassion, sometimes the weird and beautiful, and sometimes just woodlice. Gobstopper narrates the poetic shift: observation and tellings on the experience, emotion when our gaze turns to that curious realm that exists between the day to day living, common need and the conditioned madness of the island of Great Britain.

The record’s structure was inspired by the study of the fusion of two galaxies. During this process, the two celestial bodies are drawn to each other, but also risk being destroyed if they combine inharmoniously - as can be the case with human relationships. The result is a powerful, organic and sometimes dreamy music where rhythms and textures embrace; a record of a touching singularity, beautifully sublimated by Léa Desirolle’s album art.

Electronic Emergencies celebrates its fifth anniversary with 'After The Fall', by Croatian dark electro queen and style icon Popsimonova. Cult classic 'Drive' was remastered especially for the clubs by Rude 66, who also made a DJ edit of 'Dark Star Crashes', the collaboration of La Popsimonova with Italian queer heroes Hard Ton. Bosnian producer Borgie remixed 'Break and Enter' and 'Delete Yourself' into energizing, pounding dance floor killers.
