The two versatile record labels Banlieue and Peur Bleue are joining forces for a very special occasion: PSYOP, the outstanding debut album by WATCHING AIRPLANES, a production duo breaking through in 2018.

When looking for music to be released on Magazine, our guideline has always been energy. The key question remains the same: Does the artist have something important to say Does it have a sense of urgency Alex played us these tracks while visiting the Magazine studio in Cologne earlier this year and we were consumed by unadulterated rage. This is anything but a conceptual release, Alex has not released this kind of music before. A side of Alex manifests itself through these techno tracks, that most might not have known before. Most productions may have suffered from this primitive method of locking sound into position, but not these tracks from a techno master.

One of our most mysterious and intriguing states of consciousness is the dream. We lose consciousness when we enter the deep waters of sleep, only to regain it as we emerge into a series of uncanny private realities. Through the fog of the mind we can get a glimpse of a world beyond our day to day realities that sometimes is able to show us deeper truths than those we face in awake states. Roger is one of those lucid pioneers that is able to translate these experiences into sound. Let him guide you through these wondrous clouds.

We're very happy to welcome Dutch-born German-raised Roger van Lunteren on SoHaSo for the first time. His Rosa Dos Ventos Ep is a four-track story that oozes retro vibes and nostalgia for a past that never seems to have existed. Utilizing raw 80's analog synths and humanoid acid lines he sets atmospheres that remind of Lynchian dreamscapes.

Vanish starts out with an emotional chord sequence, as you enter the fluid world of the subconscious. A gnarly bassline welcomes your arrival and lets you know things here aren't exactly what they seem. Journeying on through seemingly dark areas, it ends with a hopeful melody and the bass softens as you start feeling weightless. Uncontacted uses choral pads and two intertwining 303 sequences as a way of communicating between the different dimensions.

Aroy Dee remixing Vanish is like taking a psychotropic liquid, adding more drive to the original while retaining the emotive synth patterns. Sleepless is Roger's hardest cut on the record, again providing directly plugged in 303 goodness and stomping beats. It rounds off a balanced ep with plenty of introspective dance material.

Mirror Box is the solo analog synth project of Dallas musician Sean Kirkpatrick. With an extensive resume that includes keyboard duties for Kill Rock Stars' 00s noise rock band The Paper Chase as well as his concurrent projects, dark post-punk-synth-rockers Nervous Curtains and darkwave duo Little Beards, Mirror Box is Kirkpatrick's first foray into the purely electronic realm. Blending together elements of Giallo moodiness, dub texture, techno propulsion, a passing nod to your favorite wave music, and a flare for the kosmiche, Mirror Box' debut release, Minimal Compliance EP, is a tour de force of the veteran musician's exploration of a wide range of influences and experience.

Released by Dallas-based Gavin Guthrie (TX Connect)'s TRU (Texas Recordings Underground), the 5-track EP kicks off with the immediately-gripping title track. A huge mid-tempo 808 beat drives the menacing Moog bass while cosmic synths explore the skies over gritty, urban terrain. 'The Body,' grounded by its stuttering and singular bass line, is an expansive reworking of a track from Little Beards' debut album which features Nan Kirkpatrick on the release's only vocal appearance. Side A closes with 'Destabilized Agent,' a retro-futurist dream that effortlessly voyages from Sagan's Cosmos to a melodic minimal wave refrain.

While the first side's lush synthesizers and sophisticated syncopation are somewhat of a departure for TRU, a label that has so far defined itself by bringing the electronic sounds of Texas' underground warehouse scene to dance floors across the sea, the flip side of the record is where the four hits the floor. 'Grifter React' opens with a hard kick and electro zaps, letting the rhythm take the lead until a distorted bass finally enters to provide the hook. Minimal Compliance EP finale, 'Critical Blitz,' weaves together all of Mirror Box' finer elements into a concise mission statement. Pulsing, hypnotic mono-synth, vintage mellotrons, classic hats and claps, sweeping production (courtesy of Alex Bhore at Dallas' Elmwood studios) and sparse synth melodies converge in dark analog pleasure that will guide you along like on a cool air-conditioned drive through a devilishly hot Texas night.:

Kondi proudly welcomes Reedale Rise to the imprint with this beautiful 2x12" debut album by one of the most fascinating and talented electro producers around these days. After the solid releases on Frustrated Funk and Where We Met it seems the Liverpool wonder AKA Simon Keat has impressed almost everyone with his unique take on classic house and techno compositions in a wide range; from the moody and groovy beats by Detroit legends Carl Craig and Derrick May, while staying close to Drexciya, ITDWIP and Jeremiah R in term of texture and arrangement all mixed with a sound design and ambience found in early Autechre and LTJ Bukem - just to top it up with a tiny little bit of that 90s club minded UK sound delivered by Leftfield, Orbital and LFO. Beautiful synth pads, punchy, crunchy and groovy electro beats arranged around a good ol' fashioned analogue synth bass with a characteristic bending synth lead sound on top is really hard not to love and pretty much sums up what Reedale Rises electrofunk journeys are all about. Luminous Air is one big lush, joyful and emotional ride throughout the late summer breeze and is a sure hit whether you go for a party on the beach, a nighttime drive on Hwy1 or just need an easy night with a drink on the balcony. Svengalisghost captured here in his most true form, the live setting. This recording comes direct from the board during his performance on French television in 2015 and harnesses the maniacal energy of his live set in perfect form. What may be the Chicago born artist's darkest and most plodding recording to date, this is the definintion of deconstructed death-industrial, foward thinking and freeform yet totally focused and razor sharp, plodding drums over open wire electronics and zodiac killer vocals hitting you from all angles. Last years (2017) edition of Convenanza festival featured Swedish band Fontan, who have released material on Hoga Nord Rekords, and that set the ground for a collaboration between the record label and one of the most interesting festivals around. The joint forces has resulted in the compilation album 'Convenanza 2018' containing this years (2018) acts.
The contributors are: electro oozing duo Woodleigh Research Facility, consisting of Andrew Weatherall and Nina Walsh, etno-minimalists Komodo Kollektif from Glasgow with, among others, Gordon Mackinnon who's running the top quality label Invisible Inc. The more rock oriented side of 'Convenanza 2018' contains Berlin based Die Wilde Jagd, whose sound can be defined as some sort of post punk where strong chorus drenched basslines float upon a smooth electronic soundscape with both live drums and drum machines as the back bone to the beat. Wild Woman & The Savages could best be described as the result of an orgy between PIL and The Birthday Party! The Liminanas, with special guest Anton Newcombe, contribute to the collection a garage psych rock track suited for long hot drives through the dessert.
Weatherall's unfailing 'fingerspitzengefuhle' in picking artists for the festival gets repeated yet again and if you for some unexplainable reason fail to make it to Carcassonne this year, the magic from the old castle still can reach your senses with the help from this compilation!

Following up on his exceptional 12 debut Numb (Figure 73) earlier this year, Seatoc Mass delivers another EP of finely tuned and highly diversified techno deep space explorations. Starting on an atmospheric note, Cipher's intricate melody winchingly twists its way under your skin while airy breakbeats faintly hint at the producer's UK roots. In contrasting fashion the bleep- driven Lost Lakes sticks to its metronomic stomp, making for a simple yet utterly effective tool. Choral howls and detuned synths merge on Transform for a gentle yet trance-inducing introduction to the flipside. Emotive highlight Rain then sees the Manchester producer sonically recreate a thundering storm, complete with flashing strokes of lightning and a downpour of celestial scale. The breakbeat returns on closer Flying Buttress, albeit now at much faster tempo, exploring the common ground between futuristic grime and techno. Blending all these different styles and their distinctive tropes in a coherent statement is a feat not easily accomplished. Yet here Seatoc Mass pulls it off again, developing further the confines of both his personal and the label's sound.

Pivotal Golden Püdel düde and Helena hauff collaborator F#X yields an hour long live-set recorded at +4Bar/Tresor on 16th December 2016 for Nina's roving V I S labelKnown as Chris to his pals, and as both C (with Nika Son), and Black Sites (with Helena Hauff) on discographies, F#X is his solo vehicle for hot-wired, raw and off-kilter electronic grooves, previously found on two tapes sparring with his other alias, E.K.G on his private imprint, 999USD. '9.12+4' is effectively the first F#X release proper and a strong example of his mostly improvised praxis. Over the course of an hour long set, brittle electro drums fray and spray over hypnotic,
gibbering synths and plasmic drones, spooling into piquant, chromatic Braindance melodies and sputtering IDM that sounds like a raw echo of the D'Arcangelo brothers' productions or indeed, a not-so distant relation to Helena Hauff's scuzzy rinsers.

For the first release from Antam Records, the Italian producer Marco Maggi aka mag0 delivers 3 original bleepy techno tracks with a minimalistic and electric groove. Ode to venice will for sure shake every dancefloor where it's been played. Remix duty is from the talented french producer TC80 with an hypnotic and deep techno rework. These Acid layers and the drums give the remix an almost old classic trance mood. All tastes are served through this EP.

The aesthetics of this EP is related to the universe electro / idm early 90's by a choice of very precise synthesizer. P6, Sh- 101, Tb-303, Tr-808 and to coordinate the whole an RS7000 which comes to rhythm this refusal of modernity. Foreign sequence digs into the techniques of the past to find the answers, he shows his know-how here and uses it to express a multitude of emotions between nostalgia and optimism.

Moderat are back. With "Reminder" they blend the spacious, highly emotional sounds of modern electronic music with timeless songwriting. Two powerful remixes from Special Request aka Paul Woolford and Answer Code Request take the track to very different dancefloors. Paul Woolford is one of the truly great British DJs and producers. As Bobby Peru he developed a strikingly raw, unexpectedly physical House sound. Lately he caused a stir as Special Request, taking the relentlessly thumping breakbeats of the early nineties to present dancefloors. In his "Special Request Rework" Woolford recreates the song with a highly determined, imperious bass drum, saving the vocal for an even more effective appearance in the break of the track. The looped breakbeat and precise sound splinter from the original version, giving the track unstoppable, trashing energy, making it equally indispensable for Bass Music and for House Music DJs.
Berlin's Answer Code Request is one of the artists on Berghain's label Ostgut Ton. Pursuing the opposite approach from his British colleague, Answer Code Request does not develop his remix out of a groove, but from the atmosphere, the emotional realm of the track. Artfully orchestrating shreds of Apparat's voice and a series of striking hook lines and synthesizer tracks, Answer Code Request creates one of the most pronounced Techno tracks of this season.

Goatherder is the seventh album from underground London producer Kristian Craig Robinson, AKA Capitol K. This ace manipulator of audio and punk warlord of groove has crossed a tapestry of styles and approaches with his own secret compass since 1998.

Along with everything from Chinese pop to the marching band music of the United Arab Emirates in his early musical vocabulary, the influence of rave, new wave, grunge, and noise-core would collide to create a bold new sound. His early studio experiments gave birth to his debut, Sounds of the Empire (Planet Mu, 1999) built upon a heady balance of samples and live sources that placed Capitol K at the forefront of the UK's electronic scene. The follow-up, 2002's Island Row, was released via XL Records, with lead single Pillow becoming a daytime Radio 1 crossover. Nomad Junk (2005) combined Asian field recordings into a vibrant psychedelic collage, while Notes From: Life On The Wire With A Wrecking Ball (2008) paid homage to London's squats and free anarchistic artistic spaces of which K was a part for many years. Andean Dub (2012) was an exploratory South American-influenced album of heavy synth laden cumbia sound system tracks.

The last seven years have seen Capitol K's stature as a producer elevated with his establishment of the renowned Total Refreshment Studio and recording work with musicians such as the Mercury Music prize nominated The Comet Is Coming, global dance act Ibibio Sound Machine (Merge), the pan-Arabic Flamingods (Moshi Moshi), Serafina Steer and her BAS JAN project, and contemporary folk artist Rozi Plain, among many more.

This latest work was developed and recorded in his native Malta, where he built a studio in a cave (a former goat stable). K gathered bamboo instruments collected around the world, including an ancient Quecha reeded pipe (his new-found lead instrument), and various resonating vessels and percussive objects including dry fennel storks collected from Punic troglodyte sites, and atonal flutes built from fresh cut farmland reed. Ritualistic improvisations took place over a series of seasonal visits, awakening genetic memory and plant communication.

Back in London the tracks were interfaced and expanded with post-industrial machine beat and bass guitar lock down. Homage is paid to New Age synthscapes, while a Spirit Jazz overtone arrives from K's recent years as the sonic muscle behind a plethora of luminous albums born in his Total Refreshment Studio. Goatherder follows on from the 2016 collaborative incarnation LOOSE MEAT and sonically abridges 2012's Capitol K album Andean Dub.

Outside of studio production and his solo repertoire as Capitol K, Kristian has toured as guest musician with multiple bands over the last 15 years, including Brazil's Cibelle (Crammed Discs), Archie Bronson Outfit (Domino) (whom he also co-produced), and recently Du Blonde (Mute Records).

His last project, Loose Meat, was a collaborative album of poetic dance music received lots of radio play in the UK and toured across the country for a year, performing a number of festivals.

He established the Faith and Industry record label which handled his subsequent releases and through which now he releases a number of other artists that he develops and produces.
