Touchin' Bass is once again emerging from the shadows, pushing forward into the future of electronica to bring a new lease of life back into the scene, starting with Luke Williams who has released an extensive catalogue of electronic music under his Quinoline Yellow and Tatamax pseudonyms which are predominantly found on SKAM as well as his own imprint Uchelfa.
*In the present and now seemingly back from his self- induced hiatus, we find Luke Williams composing again and instigating a spell of remix projects for various producers.
*Luke Williams' plot returns from his extended period in the wilderness to realign his priorities and interject some overdue music back into the public domain. Williams delivers his eighth release under his Quinoline Yellow moniker for Andrea Parker's Touchin' Bass label. Expect twenty five minutes of archetypal hill jogging beats and cawl-fuelled melodic sustenance. Open wide!

Mariana Wax draws its start-point from the deepest place on the earth and in the sea, the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean & its fearsome, mysterious & beautiful creatures. The imprint starts with a track by Mariana founder Dave Twomey - Tr nch's 'Challenger Deep' - a gnarled ambient soundscape featuring the voice of Captain Jacques Picard describing the first descent in 1960 to over 10,000 metres below sea level, the bottom of the Mariana Trench. Next up comes Mike Parker's inimitably heavy, throbbing & sonar-inflected 'Below Zero'. The EP is completed with the driving, journey-esque 'Valve' by Wata Igarashi.

Roberto Lobo and Ernesto Avelino come from Mieres, Northern Spain, and have been making music together for more than 20 years. They shook the Spanish underground in the 90s with projects such as Hegemonía or Goodbye until they conceived Fasenuova in 2006. Since then, they've delivered what they define as 'battered free-noise' in a handful of CDr and cassette releases on subterranean labels such as Ozono Kids and Truco Espárrago. 'A La Quinta Hoguera' (Discos Humeantes/ 11) was their official debut and the album that included 'Cachito Turulo', a track that captivated us with its mixture of menacing industrial sequences and weirdly playful vocals. After having listened to it a zillion times over the last couple of years, now we are pleased to release it as a 12' single backed with a batch of remixes by producers that, in one way or another, can relate to their shadowy aesthetic.
Hivern stalwart Marc Piñol keeps the toxic atmospheres of the original composition while winding down its rhythmic pulse with sluggish analog drum-machines. Transforming the vocals into eerie whis- pers and enclosing them with unrelenting acid basslines, the Barcelonian filters the raw energy of the track into a hypnotizing piece of numbing house. Drexciya's Gerald Donald appears under his Heinrich Mueller guise to deliver one of his scientifically-precise electro-treatments. The legendary Detroit pro- ducer brings the track to its terrain by surrounding the vocal snips with his trademark ice-cold sequen- ces and alienating atmospheres. To complete the release, long-time Hivern-fav Legowelt follows the track's savage spirit and adds manic melodies, rapturous pads and extra-muscular bass tones to boost its dance-floor power.
The release comes in a limited edition vinyl 12' with artwork by Hivern in-house designer Arnau Pi.

On the eve of the release of James Holden's eagerly anticipated new album 'The Inheritors', the appetite-whetting arpeggio extravaganza 'Renata' single trumpets his return with a pair of special remixes from Holden-endorsed synth luminaries Daphni and Steve Moore from Pittsburgh space rockers Zombi.
Caribou mainman Dan Snaith puts on his DJ-friendly Daphni hat to return the Holden remix favour with the sort of idiosyncratic blend of pitched-about vocals, fidgety garage revival beats and psychedelic synths that only he can get away with.

Federico Leocata's latest experiment on Abstract Forms is stunning. Drawing inspiration from the experimental style and themes of recurrence in Nietzsche's 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra' (1883-1885), Leocata's EP is hypnotic and seductive. The EP harks to the work of the legendary Gerald Donald in guises such as Heinrich Mueller, Der Zyklus and Japanese Telecom - awesome and unmistakably futuristic sounds with natural funk and a sense of wonder and enlightenment.

After the well-received and career-spanning compilation that was 2011's Ambient Selections, John Beltran returns with a brand new album entitled Amazing Things, due for released on Delsin records in March 20
As a life long pioneer of ambient soundscapes, blissful downbeat and stirring techno, Michigan born John Beltran already has his place in history assured with a bulging back catalogue that takes in influential releases on vital labels like Peacefrog and R&S. This new 17-track album sees the man draw on his lifetime in music to craft an immediately timeless body of work that's stuffed with genuine musicality, pregnant with emotion and laden with organic blissfulness.

Since Beltran's last original full length, he admits a lot has changed. "I'm using all new gear and virtual synths that I didn't have when writing Human Engine so it sounds different for sure. And let's just say that this album still wouldn't be finished had a friend not turned me on to the software Omnisphere."

Despite new tools and techniques, Beltran's touch still shines through in his floating arrangements, opposing textures and organic resonance, as do the continued influences of favourite artists including Four Tet, Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood.

"There was no real plan [for the album]. Some of these songs ("Clouds Pull") are over two years old. This album is truly an accumulation of music inspired by my life as a new father but I didn't write these songs for an album per say. I guess it was just written with a lot of love."

Love - and feelings thereof - permeate the album from start to finish. Tracks like opener "Retrouvailles" immediately submerge you into a utopian world with the distant sound of a playground coming over like the backdrop to a daydream, whilst more kinetic, splintered efforts like "Het Leven is Mooi" recall the aforementioned patchwork beauty of Four Tet, and "Flower Power Submarine" carries you along on a warm summer breeze.

Importantly, dark is contrast with light throughout, so more sombre, melancholic drifts like "For Vangelis" sit next to the more uplifting violins and raindrop melodies of "Broken Machines". Overall a mature and hugely resonant album for grown-ups, Amazing Things is full of just that.

Gemixt wurde "Spaces" übrigens von Gui Boratto, einem der größten Technostars Brasiliens. PS: Mixhells Rock/Elektronik-Stil funktioniert nicht nur im Club sondern vor allem live. Ihre Shows, die Cavaleras Klasse als Drummer mit elektronischen Instrumenten wie Plattenspieler, MPC Sampler, Synthesizern und locker gezupftem Bassspiel kombinieren, sind augenblicklich das berauschendste Liveerlebnis an der Schnittstelle zwischen Club und Konzert.

Next up on Light Sounds Dark, we have some tracks hailing from 2006-2008 from the cosmic Mutant Beat Dance, we thought it best to let them tell us about their music so here they go:

Protagonist:
Protagonist paces itself like a churning liquid seeping from the cracks of broken Chicago concrete streets.Riddled with scum and icy sludge, the movement of the track feels like it might be a sailor with spiritous substances flowing through his veins, but somehow maintains it's wasted momentum through it's sliding wormy sequences.

Capitulo Finale:
Wavey disjointed synths mesh with chaotic dueling vocals. Univox rhythms beat your brain into a soupy pulp, and your body into a pile of ooze. Off kilter and strictly for the mind numbed freaks. The Final Chapter...

LowLife:
Fragmented shards of a broken mirror, represented by a loosely hand played arpeggiator, reflect rays of cosmic pads intertwining the strains of the fabric. Remote vocal artefacts break the eery tension while various rhythms build and break the progression of the track.

The Fight:
Pop structures squeeze between mutated basslines and a steady rhythms, while distant voices loosely croon in a thin air of tension and imbalance where more depravity lurks. A mutilated brain trying to regain consciousness from the confusion of a distant memory.

Shipwrec continues its 2013 expansion, third of the year, with the excellent Arnold Steiner. The Venezuela born designer and Electronics zealot has released deep Electro under monikers like AS1 and The Raw Mechanics. The New York dweller has transmitted his creations on labels like Last Known Trajectory, Solar One Music and of course his own Transient Force imprint. For Shipwrec Steiner delivers an EP brimming with emotive electronic futurescapes. Terse Electro is deepened by IDM shifts and absorbing melodies. ''Day For Night'' sees the South American maestro release globules of analogue sound into the stratosphere whereas ''Noirology'', with its rolling synthlines, is floor centred. The soulful interlude of ''Cycle'' leads into the finale. ''Spirit Horse'' is a shining close, a brittle and measured piece of heartening Electro. Steiner sculpts fluid sonic structures with one eye on the past, the other firmly on the future. A superb addition to the Shipwrec catalogue from Steiner. Limited lasered sleeves.

Uexkull is a new project from Dave Conner. These four tracks have been selected as an introduction to his sound. Any Interpretation is left to the listener.

Chaval records with a nice double pack releasing some fine soultech with great remixes by Los Hermanos. A double album with six tracks that fuse the soul of the machines with the instruments played by humans. Spanish techno meets classic Detroit techno. He's such an old romantic...more reflections from the tropics courtesy of King Kivits. 1990 says it all - lushed out strings, diva vocal snippets and rave stirring sine wave set the scene while Varck lets the beats roll.. in trademark fashion. The B side is absolutely nuts and really smacks - truly something else! Art again from the brilliant young Cosmo Knex (who must have been about 4 yrs old in 1990)..TIP!

Walton returns with a strictly-limited EP to precede the release of his debut album 'Beyond'. This is a vinyl-only, once it's gone it's gone kind of release, just 300 copies available. 'Baby' is a brilliant and extreme mutation based around an R&B accapella, one that seems energised by R&B's avant-garde but danceable late '90s period. A hiccuping giggle over stuttering rusty engine stabs, and a so-stiff-it's-funky kick and and snare combination, make this a track that works brilliantly on the dance floor by sheer force of ideas and wildness. 'Can't You See's' widescreen ambience is held together by epic swelling chords, punctuated with rolling 8-bit spirals, trap-like bass, and snares. It's held together so tightly, it feels like it's going to 'drop' at any time, but prefers to just tease the listener in a state of excited suspense. Also included is an instrumental version of 'Baby'.

An Ambassador For Laing is the debut album by Dalhous. Arriving in the wake of their recent 10", Mitchell Heisman, it's due to be released by Blackest Ever Black in May 2013. The Edinburgh-based duo of Marc Dall and Alex Ander work with intricately stacked percussion, dubwise bass and a rich harmonic tapestry of processed voices, keys, harp, vibraphone, guitar, woodwind, strings and synthesiser - every sound re-sampled to the nth degree then subjected to subtle automation and rigorously fine-tuned over a period of many months. From the mesmerised pastoral drift of 'Anger Sees Red' and 'Dwelling By The Meadow' to agitated arabesques like 'The Physical Body' and the self-titled 'Dalhous', the resulting pieces explore dreamlike but treacherous terrain. Eleven questions in a world of blue.
